Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron Wedding | Kirsty + Brendan

I practically grew up on the beach. Our house was less than a two minute walk to the water’s edge and we would wander down to the beach like it was our backyard.

So when Kirsty and Brendan told me about their family’s boat shed at beautiful Blairgowrie, and their wish to have photographs taken at the place that they feel so connected to, I knew just what they meant.

Endless days spent swimming and relaxing with the gentle lap of the water as a backdrop. The warmth of the sun and salt water drying on your skin and sand between your toes.

All of this played out over the years with the family gathered together to enjoy their favourite summer spot.

What a perfect location for them on their wedding day.

However, the weather just wasn’t going to fully co-operate with us on the day, and with a lot of rain forecast, there was no option but to have the ceremony under cover.

Fortunately we were blessed with a little window beforehand when the rain stopped long enough for us to head down to the beach and get some beautiful pics on Kirsty and Brendan’s beach.

I can’t begin to tell you how stunningly beautiful Kirsty looked. And surrounded by all of her and Brendan’s gorgeous friends and family, she positively glowed.

The ceremony following and the reception were all held at the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron, a beautiful waterfront location on the Mornington Peninsula. We were under cover because of the rain, but it didn’t matter. The day was simply beautiful.

A short break in the rain allowed us to get some photos before the ceremony, at their beloved beach house, but it was game over after that.

Luckily the Blairgowrie YS has a huge undercover area for the ceremony that still overlooks the beautiful beach.

It was an amazing day with amazing people. And as always, i’m very grateful for Kristy and Brendan to have shared so warmly with me.

Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron is a terrific venue for your wedding ceremony and reception. Whether you are celebrating your day with the guests at the deck during the ceremony, or when you move to the reception room, you will never be too far from a photo opportunity at the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron.

The venue overlooks the Blairgowrie Marina, Camerons Bight and Port Phillip; giving you a spectacular view that is second to none. This view and the backdrop combined with the beachfront, provides you with ample amount of choices for your photo sessions.

Wedding Venue Price Info For Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron

Minimum Spend

• For Ceremony Venue Hire- $1000

Food & Beverage Packages (5 to 6 hour Duration. 80 Guests Minimum)

• Monday to Thursday- $150 Per Person
• Friday- $155 Per Person
• Saturday and Sunday- $165 Per Person
• All prices include GST
• Deposit of $2000 for confirmation required.  
• The remaining balance is due 14 days prior to the event. If not, the agreement will be terminated.
• Less than 6 months prior to the event – deposit to be retained by Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron.  
• Less than 60 days and more than 14 days prior to the event – 50% of the estimated event charge shall be payable.  
• Less than 14 days prior to the event –100% of the estimated event charge shall be payable.
• Minimum booking of 80 people is required for the Southern Waters Room otherwise a minimum spend of $10,000 will apply.
• No decorations items are to be attached to wall surfaces without an approval.
• Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron is a strictly no smoking venue.  

Ceremony Options At Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron

The unique beachfront lawn area at the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron is the perfect location for you to have your wedding ceremony. This space allows you to be on the water’s edge with a spectacular backdrop of Port Phillip.  

After the ceremony you can either join your friends and family for drinks on the deck or you can take them along for a variety of photo shoots at the beach itself.

You will also have nothing to worry about if there is an event of bad weather. You can have your ceremony moved to an   undercover area where you can exchange your vows without any interruption while being close to the beautiful beach and the bay backdrop.

Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron Wedding Reception

The Southern Waters Room   at the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron is a great wedding reception space. It has stunning views over Port Phillip and the Blairgowrie marina as a backdrop.   And with abundant natural light and glass doors opening onto a large north-facing deck overlooking the water, this space is ideal for some great photo sessions as you continue with your celebrations.

While the reception is on you can also step out with your friends for some group photos by the beach and the yachts that are parked nearby at the marina.

The sun set at the marina offers you a great photo opportunities for some intimate pictures to be taken with your partner.

Full Membership.

Full members are able to make use of all sailing and non-sailing facilities and participate in an extensive racing, cruising and social program. Includes access to the members clubhouse including our dining and bar services, marina, carpark, off the beach boat storage, locker hire, club sailboards and SUPs and a range of discounts and additional benefits.

Family Membership.

All the benefits of a Full membership, covering a family with adults and any children under the age of 25, who all reside at the same permanent address.

Personalised membership cards

Intermediate Membership.

An aged-based membership with all the benefits of a full membership, with the exception of locker hire and carpark access.

Australian Sailing personal insurance

Junior Membership.

For 8-17 year olds participating in learn to sail programs, training and racing. Junior members can participate in a wide range of sailing, racing and social programs and have access to the clubhouse facilities, locker hire and off the beach storage if they are participating in Junior or Youth Sail Training.

Marina access*

Crew Membership.

An Introductory membership designed for those new to racing who undertake to become a regular crew. Make use of a range of sailing and non-sailing facilities and participate in the racing, cruising and social program with access to a range of discounts and benefits. Available to new members for up to three years.

BYS TEMPORARY MEMBERSHIPS

• Sail Pass Temporary Membership

Sail Pass Temporary Membership.

A SailPass gives you membership for the day and your own Australian Sailing number. You can access the clubhouse facilities and participate in racing with personal accident insurance provided by Australian Sailing. You can purchase a Sail Pass up to 12 times, after which we hope that you join our club and continue to race. We’ll deduct the cost of your Sail Pass from your membership fees if you then go on to join.

BYS SOCIAL MEMBERSHIPS

• Social Membership (non sailing)

Social Membership (non sailing).

Social members are able to make use of all the member clubhouse facilities including our dining, bar, bbqs and change rooms and participate in our active social program. Social members can race up to 4 times each season, can sign in guests each visit, and have access to discounts and a range of additional benefits.

Social Memberships are individual memberships. 

We are currently not taking any applications or expressions of interest for this category as we have a lengthy waiting list and wait time.  Please speak with our Membership Officer for more information.

BYS MEMBERSHIP FAQ

How do I apply to become a member of BYS?

That’s easy – we can guide you to work out what’s the right membership category for you through completing the Expression of Interest Form, or call our Member Services and Engagement Officer, Kate Poole, who can assist you with your questions.  We would love to hear from you, just call on 5925 9600 or click here to email.

The membership process follows the pathway as set out below:

• Complete and return your membership application in full, including completed sections from both your proposer and seconder.  Incomplete applications forms can not be accepted. 
• Applicants are invited to meet with the representatives of the Membership Committee. At this meeting applicants will learn about the Clubs programs, facilities and the benefits and expectations of being a member.    
• Applicants are advised to the members for a period of 14 days. 
• Applications are presented to the Executive Committee for approval. 
• An offer of membership will be made to the applicant. 
• Applicants are then to attend a new member welcome and induction.

I don’t have a Proposer or Seconder for my application?

While many people join the Club after being recommended by a current full member of one or more years, we understand that not everyone will know someone at the Club.   If this is the case, we ask that you contact our membership team prior to completing your application form. 

How much does it cost to become a member?

The cost varies depending on the category of membership you apply for.  Note there is a one off Entrance Fee payable for all new members, together with an ongoing annual fee. All fees are only provided with an application form. 

When does the membership year run from/to?

The membership year commences on 1 May each year and goes through to 30 April.  Note that yearly subscription renewal invoices are sent out on, 1 May each year.  You can join BYS as a new member at any stage of the year, however, the annual fees will still be billed for the full yearly period if you join between May – January, if joining after 1 February – 30 April annual fees will be pro-rated.

Member Leave of Absence: any Member wishing to apply for Leave of Absense should make an application to the Membership Committee in the first instance, setting out the grounds for the application. If the application is considered an appropriate one for approval, it can be submitted to the EC for approval. Please contact our Member Services who can assist.
