Brand: Prout 34 Event

prout 34 catamaran

By 1990 Prout had already produced over 3,000 catamarans over a 40 year span and drawing from that experience poured time and talent into designing this fine craft. Prouts have been sailed on virtually every ocean across the globe making them true world cruisers.

Strength is essential in a catarmaran design, the Prout 34 acheives this in the way of one piece hull and deck mouldings bounded together, with bulkheads at strategic positions forming deep box sections, this producing a monocoque shell system.

Brochure

The Prout Event 34' Cutter is a proven passage maker . This one is no exception, making two Atlantic crossings. Although it has the pedigree to cross oceans, it equally excels as a coastal cruiser, with it's shallow draft of 2'8", it is able to sneak into secluded anchorages other cruisers can only dream about. The  30hp Yanmar was installed in 1998 and has 460 hours . Her 5 sails are in good shape. She sports a dodger & bimini, monitor wind vane steering system as well as a Raytheon auto pilot.  Her bottom was painted in 2012  and her standing rigging was inspected at the same time and giving the all clear. She also just got a fresh coat of paint on her coach roof stripe. If you're looking for catamaran that can do it all and not break the bank , you just found it. She is ready for a whole new set of dreams.

We are always looking for new inventory, If you have a boat to sell and want to expose it to the most people possible, please give me a call at the number below.

Additional Details

Working Sail Area : 560.00 sq ftManufacturer Provided Description The Prout 34 (formerly the Event 34) is based on Prout’s experience of how to safely combine cruising needs in a good looking boat which uses the latest technology. This new generation design has quickly become one of the most popular boats in Prout’s fleet. A massive Mediterranean style cockpit leads to spacious accommodation with a choice of standard, open plan or owners “stateroom” options. Large enough for the big family, spacious enough for the liveaboard, the Prout 34 is available in a number of different layout options, each providing three spacious and private double cabins, with a large fully-serviced galley and a navigation area. The Prout 34’s advanced hull design is configured for the oceans and features a full-length nacelle, planing wedges, high prismatic hulls and low aspect ratio keels so she’ll sail right onto the beach when you arrive. Apart from a variety of single-engine options, she can be fitted with twin diesels with space remaining for water-maker, generator or other personal choice items. The Prout 34 is equally at home in cold climates as lying in the warmth of the tropics. Her balsa cored construction is a good insulator, whilst her numerous deck hatches provide a cool breeze throughout the boat. All Prout catamarans are designed and constructed by yachtsmen to combine technology with traditional boat building skills. Prout Catamarans was the first boat builder in the UK to receive Lloyds ISO 9002 quality standard recognition. Prout prides themselves in keeping in touch with owners through an excellent after-sales service and a strong owners association.Equipment List Prout 34 Specifications - Standard Equipment General - Strength, essential in a catamaran design, is achieved by bonding the bulkheads into the one-piece hull molding to form deep box sections and then by bonding the one-piece deck molding to the hull and bulkheads to create a monocoque shell system. - The bulkheads are located to absorb the torsion and compression loads inherent in a catamaran’s structure. Hull - The hull is hand-laid using the latest techniques. An isophthalic gelcoat is used and the first layers of GRP are powder bound, chopped strand mat with isophthalic resin using the Scott Bader system so that the risk of osmosis is minimized (5-year guarantee against osmosis). - Biaxial roving mat is included in the lay-up to take care of the primary directional loads and a sandwich construction using end grain balsa is used above the waterline to increase the strength-to-weight ratio of the topsides. - Highly loaded areas are reinforced through the use of Kevlar and woven rovings. Deck - The deck is also hand-laid using similar techniques to the hull. End grain balsa sandwich construction is used over the entire deck using top quality Lloyds approved materials. - Biaxial roving mat is incorporated in the lay-up, and highly loaded regions (such as chainplate attachment points) are given extra reinforcement. Bulkheads - The bulkheads are made from wood or composite materials and are bonded to the hull and deck with a combination of roving mat, which is woven at ±45 degrees for maximum shear strength, and chopped strand mat. - The visible bulkheads are finished with a lacquered veneer. Interior Units - The interior units are made from a mixture of GRP and wood and are bonded to the hull and deck in order to complete a “honeycomb” structure to add to the strength of the boat. Buoyancy - There are watertight buoyancy compartments forward and aft in each hull and the water tanks in the keels form a ‘double skin’ giving protection should the keel be holed. - The nacelle is foam filled for additional buoyancy. Aft Cabin - Starboard - Fully molded double berth c-w crash tank, floor and integral icebox molding. Four inch covered cushions. Hanging locker, draw - vanity unit and seat unit. Spotlight. Family Plan Layout - All versions can be fitted with a Family layout which offers a large double berth (6’ 6” x 4’ 6”) at the forward end of the saloon. Access to the berth is from a dressing room fitted with two hanging lockers, a dressing table and seat. The dressing room replaces the starboard forward cabin arrangement in the standard version.

Rig and Sails

Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

  • SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
  • D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
  • LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
  • LOA: Length overall in feet
  • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

Broker's Comments

What impressed me initially as I first approached this vessel on the hard standing, was the shine reflecting off of her GRP hull and new coat of antifoul. Then, having walked around her I was also impressed at her overall condition and could see that the current owner certainly appears to have maintained her very well.

The Prout Event 34 is highly regarded by many as one of the finest catamarans of her age. And with many still transiting the globe they are testament to their build quality and longevity as being super boats. Many of them also being used as Blue Water cruisers and liveaboards given their large accommodation space afforded due to their excellent design.

Stepping aboard, my first impression was simply the huge amount of available deck space on these extremely well designed catamarans on both the stern and the bow area. She also benefits from a lovely large deep cockpit with an abundance of space, lots of storage lockers and a really nice helming position.

Stepping through the large companionway from the cockpit into the saloon area I was very impressed again at the available space and headroom. There is ample seating and an exceptionally large saloon table to accommodate and entertain friends and family.

Then stepping down into the galley area on the starboard side of the boat again gives masses of headroom and a lots of workspace and stowage with good visibility from the large window. Aft of the galley is a very large double berth and forward of the galley is a large single berth, both with lots of natural daylight streaming through.

Stepping up and over onto the port side of the boat there is a very large nav station again with lots of workspace for charts etc. There is also plenty of stowage compartments to hand. Forward of the nav station is a large heads compartment with a sink and shower with again plenty of head height and aft of the nav station is a again a very large double berth both with plenty of natural daylight streaming though the large windows.

The owner informed me that he estimates that he has invested considerable time and expense on extras and improvements on this boat in the relatively short time he has owned her. These include: removal of all the old headlining’s and having them replaced professionally, the replacement of all of the winches, a new Eberspacher heater and controller, calorifier, fridge, LED lighting throughout, and many other additions too numerous to mention here but please check out the listing for full details.

I don’t think she’ll be hanging around for too long so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like to book a viewing.

  9. 1990 Prout Event 34 Boats for Sale
