Welcome to Ullswater Yacht Club
If you want to learn to sail, improve your racing or simply want to cruise Cumbria’s ‘loveliest of lakes’, UYC offers an unrivalled scenic location and a very warm welcome. We are a friendly, family-orientated club welcoming anyone with an interest in sailing. Whether it’s an introduction to sailing, RYA training, or competitive racing you’re after, we have it all. Perhaps some days you don’t want to sail or members of the family want to do something different. Beautiful fells surround our club, with good access for walking and mountain biking. We have a busy club programme with something for everyone, run national sailing events, an annual sail camp for youngsters, have junior fleets, there’s a super kitchen and bar facilities, we could go on…

So if you are considering learning a new outdoor sport that is ideal for all the family, where you can camp on site and take advantage of the expert tuition and great clubhouse and its facilities, UYC is the perfect choice. Our membership covers people of all ages and abilities and offers a great opportunity to meet like-minded families/individuals who may decide to sail during the day then go mountain biking on the fell behind the club. Ullswater Ultimate 2024
The Ullswater Ultimate Regatta lived up to expectations, with two days of racing round a square, a triangle and a sausage. Three back to back races, each day with one start for all classes, from 49er's to RS Terra's. The racing was tight and with close racing in the Flying Fifteen and Vx One classes. The Saturday had three separate winners, but Sunday was dominated by the 49er 343 sailed by Matty and More »

Big congratulations to our members out in Germany. After several days of light wind sailing Jono Shelley and Graham Priestley came out victorious with Lester Noble and Mark Simpson in second. Tony Lewis and Andrew Cutting were fifth and Keith Lockey and Paul Adams came seventh. They have now arrived in Garda for the next stop in the VXOne Europeans. More »
International 14 wins the 62nd Lord Birkett Memorial Trophy
The International 14 sailed by Adam Ovington and Stuart Keegan win the 62 nd Lord Birkett Memorial Trophy at Ullswater Yacht Club on July 6 & 7. The iconic long-distance event was established by the club in honour of Lord Norman Birkett who died in 1962, two days after making a successful speech in the House of Lords preventing Ullswater from becoming a reservoir which would have restricted public access. Here is the view from the top of The Quiet Site . The camera is situated just behind the Hobbit Holes. One of the best times to look at the TQS webcam is at dawn when the sun comes up on the other side of Ullswater. If you are lucky you will see over an ‘inversion’ that covers the lake and valley – a magical experience!

We are located at the northern part of this seven-mile lake and, being only 10 minutes from the M6, we are the most accessible. Whether it's an introduction to sailing, RYA training, or competitive racing you're after, we have it all. We have sailors of all ages and abilities. They race and sail for pleasure, some for the competition, and others just like to sit and admire the view. We are a fun, friendly, family orientated club with disabled access and welcome anyone with an interest in sailing. Safety is a priority and a fleet of patrol boats is available. Our Ullswater Sailing School provides training at all levels, and we have a range of training boats ready to take you on to the water. Our training school is run by Royal Yachting Association fully qualified instructors who will make learning to sail fun and enjoyable. Perhaps some days you don’t want to sail, or members of the family want to do something different. Fells surround our club, with good access for walking and mountain biking. Some of the best walks in the country are on our doorstep and also Ullswater Steamers sail regularly the length of the lake. We run national sailing events, sail camp for youngsters, we have cadet and junior fleets, we have super kitchen and bar facilities. And by the way, if you are a member of UYC you can camp for free in the club grounds.
