The Catamaran Spread Eagle has been providing tours from Fajardo for decades.

The difference factor with Spread Eagle is that they have a larger variety of lunch options.

They also provide you with a brand-new snorkel included in the tour. This is a nice touch, as opposed to a used one.

The Spread Eagle catamarans depart from Villa Marina in Fajardo.  

The tour is 5 hours, and if you’re departing from the San Juan area you should leave 2 hours earlier. This charter company does not offer transportation with the tour.

The Katarina Catamaran sails on the west coast of Rincon.

The boat is a 32-foot catamaran that can accommodate 17 guests. They include rum punch, lunch, refreshments, and snorkeling.

The Katarina Catamaran is moored in Rincon. You will need to board a small watercraft from the Balneario of Rincon, which transports you to the bigger boat.

This tour might be challenging for people staying in the San Juan metro area. It’s recommendable to stay on the west coast so that you can arrive on time.

I did the tour to icacos island and palomino with the captain Jay, pablito and I forgot the tall guy name but three of them were great! We had a blast on our tour. Drinks were amazing. The spot chosen for snorkeling was just amazing. Flamenco beach is definitely a must. But what made a difference is the awesome Sail Getaways crew. All of them were super attentive and nice with us. Was all of our first time and it was so beautiful and fun. We got to see a barracuda, big jellyfish and a bunch of other little fish. My friend and I took the tour to Tamarindo and Flamenco beach and it was amazing. The weather was perfect which made the ride super smooth. We were a fortunate group to enjoy a beautiful day. Great quick getaway for our group of 13. Quick boat ride to snorkel, excellent fish viewing and lunch. Then a quick boat ride to Flamenco Beach to wander around. The staff was friendly, knowledgable, and patient.

We took the three-in-one catamaran getaway on New Year's Day with Omar and Arturo. Our group was 2 adults a 9 year old and a 5 year old. All of us had an amazing time. Omar and Arturo were awesome sailors/hosts/guides making sure they got us to Icacos safely for snorkeling, answered all our questions, taught us about Puerto Rico and even served us delicious drinks and snacks. A really beautiful afternoon/evening with super friendly guides, Omar and Arturo.

Recently booked a snorkeling tour to Icacos and it was amazing. The prices were fair and they were able to provide transportation from Viejo San Juan for an additional cost. The crew was amazing and took care of us. They were very attentive and they kept the drinks coming. The water conditions weren’t the best for snorkeling but they did their best to find us s spot. Accessing the beach required to swim from the boat. It wasn’t ideal but made it fun. I intend to book again on my next trip to PR. Next time it’ll be Culebra. Keep up the good work. I would love to hear more reguetón and more Latin music next time.

We went out to flamingo Island owned by Puerto Rico. It was absolutely beautiful. The captain And his crew were delightful. The lunch was delicious and they kept the drinks rolling in. The captain even had a specialty drink, called the Jellyfish. They made the experience fun and memorable. SPREAD EAGLE II departs for a palm-fringed tropical island at 9 a.m. from ‘J’ Dock at Villa Marina in Fajardo, a 30-mile drive east from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Then, it’s about a one-hour catamaran sail to an offshore island and the reef.

There’s something for everyone on our day sail adventure. Kids from two months old to 90 years old have enjoyed the trip as much as we’ve enjoyed having them.

Once at the island, we lower a stairway into knee-deep water so you can get your gear to the beach safe and dry. Then you can swim, beach comb, splash in gin-clear water or stare back at the brilliantly colored tropical fish as you snorkel the reef, or just laze on the white sand beach or on board under the cockpit shade awning, the choice is yours.

The reefs are teeming with parrotfish, foureye butterflyfish, sergeant majors, and wrasse. The variety is too long to list, so you should just come to see them all for yourself.

Welcome aboard The Salty Dog where you can experience and enjoy Puerto Rico’s best unspoiled islands off the eastern coast of Fajardo. Wander the white sandy beaches, slip on a pair of fins and discover a colorful world of tropical fish in the crystal clear caribbean waters with snorkeling belts, refreshments, and lunch provided by our friendly bilingual crew.  During our sail, we’ll be making two stops: one being the white sandy beach of the nearby natural reserves and the second at the coral reef where you will be able to snorkel in 15ft – 20ft depth of water. Transportation:

Islands That We Visit:

Destination will be determined by our captain on the day of the experience. The destination is determined based on the weather and water conditions of the day. 

Isla de Palominos

Located some 3.5 nautical miles east of Fajardo, it has a size of approximately 104 acres. It is one of a few private islands that exist throughout Puerto Rico. Part of the island is on lease to El Conquistador Hotel to be used as the hotel’s beach. About a quarter-mile south of Palominos island lies Cayo Palominitos, which is a one-acre sandy key with tropical vegetation perfect for swimming or snorkeling.

Isla de Lobos

Located some 1.5 nautical miles east of Cayo Icacos, it has a size of approximately five acres. It is also one of a few private islands throughout Puerto Rico. In the early ’60s, the island hosted a very exclusive hotel, which ran into financial difficulties and was abandoned for a great part of the ’70s and ’80s until it was bought by a local family and converted into a paradise vacation home. Surrounded by small keys and coral reefs, it is great for snorkeling.

Cayo Icacos

Located some four nautical miles northeast of Fajardo, it has a size of approximately 163 acres. It is part of a chain of small islands, keys, and coral reefs known as La Reserva Natural de la Cordillera. The island hosts a fairly large amount of marine life, coral reefs, birds, and land iguanas. It is the perfect setting for snorkeling, swimming, diving, and beachcombing. It gets its name from the large number of Icacos bushes on the island. The Icacos is a small sour fruit, which grows to about the size of a key lime. When ready to be picked, they are pale yellow in color and come off the bush quite easily. The best way to eat them is cooked in heavy syrup.

• Waterproof Photo Camera, GoPro Camera, or Cell Phone with a waterproof cover with a good amount of battery to take pictures aboard.
• Sunblock: We are in the Caribbean, and with the Warm Temperatures year-round, it’s always good to be protected against the Sun.

• Get seasick, and take an over-the-counter remedy with food at least 1 hour before the trip.
• We include the use of the snorkeling equipment during the tour, but you may also bring your own if preferred or purchase new equipment at our East Island Excursions Store.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Individual reservations:.

10:00 am the day before the scheduled trip, and the reservation can be canceled for 1-9 passengers, 10 + passengers 2 days prior with No penalty. Full payment is required upon booking with any major credit card to confirm the reservations.

“NO SHOW”  or if you don’t arrive on time, the ticket is  NOT REFUNDABLE  and  NOT REUSABLE unless (and only if) we have space available to reschedule on a future date. Reschedule must be made on the day of the original trip, based on availability, and  a rescheduling fee of $25+ tax per person will be applied.

*All marine activities are subject to water conditions. Please call the prior day for an update; cancellations or change of destination due to water conditions are at the Captain’s discretion. These decisions can be informed upon check-in.

Upon departing the marina in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, our guests will enjoy the beautiful views of the El Yunque Mountains and the waterfront of the Fajardo coastline. After a comfortable sail on our catamaran of about one hour, the Icacos Beach and Snorkel Tour begins as we anchor at one of the small deserted islands off the northeast corner of Puerto Rico. Guests can practice their snorkeling, walk on the beach, beach comb, and swim and snorkel in the crystal clear waters of Icacos island.

A leisurely catamaran sail back to the marina brings us back to the dock at 3:30 pm. Guests can enjoy viewing the fish at the reef through our glass windows and have fun on our water slide aboard our catamaran. Lunch is served at approximately 12:30 pm, where our guests can enjoy local pastries, build their own sandwiches, peruse the salad bar and enjoy fresh fruit.

Cancellations must be made 48 hours before the scheduled tour date and local time via EMAIL ONLY. A sales representative will respond with validation of requested cancellation. Those who intend to cancel within the 48 hour time frame will be fully charged by the designated tour operator. There will be absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS under any circumstance to waive any fees.

After submittion of requested tour, you agree to our 48 hour cancellation policy and acknowledge any cancellations made within the given time frame are to be considered a FINAL SALE. There will be No Re-scheduling, and NO REFUNDS will be given.

Please note some tours depend on weather conditions to function and may be affected. Unfortunately, mother nature is out of our control, any changes required will be notified to you immediately. For safety concerns, if a tour operator cancels the scheduled tour, the option of re-scheduling will be given or a refund will be provided.

This is also being done due to law 51 that prohibits the distribution of single use plastic here in Puerto Rico.

Casi dos meses después de encallar en el arrecife frente a la playa Flamenco , en Culebra , y tras haberse completado una compleja operación de remoción, el velero Obsession , de 72 pies de eslora, será transportado hasta las Islas Vírgenes Británicas (BVI, en inglés), informó Ricardo Castrodad , portavoz de la Guardia Costera de Estados Unidos (USCG).

La guardia costera supervisa esfuerzos para remover combustible diésel de embarcación encallada en culebra.

“Por las condiciones en que se encuentra la embarcación y las dificultades que estábamos teniendo con el oleaje, la embarcación fue remolcada hacia el lado este de Culebra. Ahora están finalizando el levantamiento de la embarcación a bordo de la barcaza (que la transportará a su destino)”, precisó Castrodad.

La remoción del catamarán, que había encallado el 21 de julio, se produjo finalmente el pasado miércoles. Tras ese operativo, para el que se utilizó una barcaza de 400 toneladas, el coordinador federal del USGC, Jamie Testa, aseguró que el velero “ya no representa una amenaza para el arrecife y el área sensible frente a la playa Flamenco”.

En un comunicado enviado por el USCG se precisó que la Administración Nacional Oceánica y Atmosférica (NOAA) –que supervisó el manejo ambiental de la situación junto al Departamento de Recursos Naturales y Ambientales (DRNA)– reclutó a la compañía Sea Ventures para realizar avalúos submarinos que determinen el alcance de cualquier daño provocado al ecosistema que rodea el área donde encalló el catamarán.

A lo largo del tiempo que el velero estuvo varado, buzos y otro personal de NOAA y DRNA estuvieron monitoreando el área, dijo Castrodad, “salvaguardando pedazos de arrecife que se van a utilizar para la recuperación de lo que está impactado”.

“Los corales que se impactaron durante el encallamiento se rescataron y se sembraron nuevamente en el arrecife . Ahora, una vez removido, estamos en proceso, junto a NOAA, de evaluar impactos adicionales, si alguno, y determinar las medidas que haya que tomar para restaurar el área” , indicó, por escrito, Nilda Jiménez, bióloga del Programa de Especies Protegidas del DRNA.

Aunque inicialmente se preveía transportar el catamarán a la isla de Virgen Gorda, en BVI, el mismo día de su remoción del arrecife, Castrodad precisó que las condiciones marítimas complicaron el trabajo, por lo que, tras el levantamiento, se optó por mover la embarcación, provisionalmente, a otra parte de Culebra.

“El plan es que (el catamarán) vaya encima de la barcaza (hasta Virgen Gorda). Hay dos barcazas: una que la va a levantar y otra que la va a transportar”, describió el portavoz.

A finales de julio, el USCG, a través de las empresas Resolve Marine y Clean Harbors, LLC., logró remover el combustible que permanecía en los tanques del Obsession , estimado en alrededor de 1,500 galones.

Según se informó entonces, el catamarán realizaba un viaje, con cuatro personas a bordo, de Puerto Rico a BVI, cuando encalló durante una escala en Culebra.
