Fort Lauderdale Marinas

Introduction to Fort Lauderdale Marinas

Welcome to the dazzling water world of Fort Lauderdale! Known as ‘The Venice of America’, Fort Lauderdale boasts a network of canals and waterways, making it a paradise for boating enthusiasts. The city is home to an array of marinas, each offering unique amenities and services. If you’re someone who enjoys the sea breeze, endless ocean views, and the gentle lapping of waves against a boat hull, you’re in for a treat. In this article, we will be exploring the Fort Lauderdale boating marinas, giving you an insider’s perspective.

The marinas in Fort Lauderdale are versatile and cater to a variety of boating needs. Whether you are a seasoned sailor, a part-time cruiser, or a jet ski enthusiast, you’ll find a marina in this city that’s just right for you. The marinas offer everything from boat storage and maintenance services, to upscale facilities like clubhouses, pools, and restaurants.

A visit to Fort Lauderdale isn’t complete without exploring the marinas. They are a testament to the city’s rich nautical history and culture. The marinas aren’t just a place to dock your boat; they are vibrant communities where you can connect with fellow boating enthusiasts, learn from the experts, and soak in the unique maritime atmosphere.

A Closer Look at Lauderdale Yacht Club

One of the most prestigious marinas in the city is the Lauderdale Yacht Club. Founded in 1938, the Club has a rich history and has been a cornerstone of the Fort Lauderdale boating community for decades. It’s not just a marina; it’s a lifestyle. Offering premium amenities and a community spirit, the Lauderdale Yacht Club is the epitome of luxury and convenience for boating enthusiasts.

What sets the Lauderdale Yacht Club apart from other marinas is its commitment to fostering a sense of community. The Club hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including regattas, social gatherings, and educational programs. These events provide an opportunity for members to connect, share their boating experiences, and learn from each other.

The Lauderdale Yacht Club also offers exclusive facilities for its members. Apart from full-service marina services, the Club boasts a state-of-the-art fitness center, swimming pools, dining establishments, and a stunning clubhouse that overlooks the Fort Lauderdale skyline. Whether you want to engage in recreational activities or unwind after a day of sailing, the Lauderdale Yacht Club has you covered.

Exploring Florida Boating Clubs: Club Lauderdale

Club Lauderdale is another gem in the crown of Fort Lauderdale marinas. It’s a boating club that goes beyond offering a place to dock your boat; it offers an experience. Club Lauderdale is known for its pristine facilities, professional staff, and a welcoming community of boating enthusiasts.

At Club Lauderdale, every member is treated like a VIP. The Club offers a wide range of services including boat cleaning and maintenance, fueling services, and concierge services. The staff at Club Lauderdale is committed to making your boating experience hassle-free and enjoyable.

One of the unique aspects of Club Lauderdale is its commitment to promoting sustainable boating practices. The Club has implemented several green initiatives, such as the use of eco-friendly cleaning products and waste management systems. This commitment to sustainability sets Club Lauderdale apart and makes it a preferred choice for environmentally-conscious boaters.

The Cost of Boat Slip in Fort Lauderdale

One of the key considerations for boat owners is the cost of a boat slip. So, how much does a boat slip cost in Fort Lauderdale? The cost can vary significantly based on the marina, the size of the boat, and the amenities offered. On average, a boat slip in Fort Lauderdale can cost anywhere from $10 to $30 per foot per month.

It’s important to note that the cost of the boat slip is just one component of the overall boating expenses. Additional costs can include maintenance fees, insurance, and membership fees if you choose to join a boating club.

When considering the cost of a boat slip, it’s essential to factor in the value you get in return. For instance, marinas that charge higher fees often offer premium amenities and services, such as 24-hour security, access to club facilities, and professional boat maintenance services.

Understanding High and Dry Storage in Fort Lauderdale

An alternative to boat slips is high and dry storage. Also known as dry stack storage, this type of boat storage involves storing boats in a covered warehouse when they are not in use. Fort Lauderdale high and dry storage facilities offer several benefits, such as protection from the elements and reduced maintenance.

High and dry storage facilities in Fort Lauderdale use a forklift or a mechanical system to transport the boats in and out of the water. This eliminates the need for boat owners to trailer their boats, making the process of getting in and out of the water quicker and easier.

However, high and dry storage may not be suitable for all types of boats. Larger boats, in particular, may not fit in the storage racks. Additionally, the cost of high and dry storage can be higher than traditional boat slips, especially for larger boats.

The Benefits of Boat Storage in Florida

Whether you choose a boat slip or high and dry storage, there are several benefits to boat storage in Florida. The first benefit is protection. Boat storage facilities provide a secure environment for your boat, protecting it from theft, vandalism, and environmental damage.

Another benefit of boat storage in Florida is convenience. Many storage facilities offer additional services such as boat cleaning, maintenance, and repair. This means you can spend more time enjoying your boat and less time worrying about its upkeep.

Lastly, boat storage facilities often offer access to amenities such as clubhouses, swimming pools, and restaurants. These facilities can enhance your boating experience, providing a place to relax and connect with other boating enthusiasts.

How to Choose the Best Marina in Fort Lauderdale

With so many marinas in Fort Lauderdale, how do you choose the best one for your needs? Here are a few factors to consider.

First, consider the location. The marina should be conveniently located and provide easy access to your favorite boating destinations.

Next, consider the facilities and services offered. A good marina should provide essential services such as fueling, boat maintenance, and security. Additional amenities such as a clubhouse, pool, and dining facilities can also enhance your boating experience.

Lastly, consider the community. The best marinas are those that foster a sense of community among boaters. Look for marinas that host events and gatherings, as these can provide opportunities to connect with fellow boaters and learn from their experiences.

A Photo Tour of Lauderdale Boat Club

No guide to Fort Lauderdale Marinas would be complete without a photo tour of the Lauderdale Boat Club. With its stunning waterfront location, state-of-the-art facilities, and vibrant community, the Lauderdale Boat Club is a sight to behold.

As you browse through the photos, you’ll see the immaculate boat slips, the stunning clubhouse, and the panoramic views of the Fort Lauderdale skyline. You’ll also get a glimpse of the vibrant community at the Club, with photos of members participating in regattas, social events, and educational programs.

The photo tour provides a snapshot of what you can expect as a member of the Lauderdale Boat Club. It’s more than just a place to dock your boat; it’s a lifestyle, a community, and a place where lifelong memories are made.

Comparing Fort Lauderdale Marinas: Membership Costs and Benefits

When choosing a marina in Fort Lauderdale, it’s important to compare the membership costs and benefits. Each marina has its own pricing structure and offers a unique set of benefits.

Membership costs at Fort Lauderdale marinas can vary significantly, ranging from a few hundred dollars per month to several thousand dollars per year. These costs typically include access to boat slips or dry storage, use of facilities, and participation in club events.

The benefits of membership can also vary. Some marinas offer basic services such as boat storage and maintenance, while others offer premium amenities such as fitness centers, dining facilities, and concierge services. When comparing marinas, consider both the cost and the value you get in return.

Conclusion: Why Fort Lauderdale is a Boater’s Paradise

In conclusion, Fort Lauderdale is a boater’s paradise. With its network of waterways, diverse boating options, and vibrant boating community, it’s the perfect destination for anyone who enjoys life on the water.

Whether you’re a seasoned sailor, a casual boater, or a boating enthusiast looking to connect with like-minded individuals, you’ll find a home in the Fort Lauderdale boating marinas. From the historic Lauderdale Yacht Club to the eco-friendly Club Lauderdale, each marina offers a unique experience that caters to different boating needs.

The sailors

Teams at all skill levels have entered the race, which draws competitors from around the world.  The highly skilled racers know they will cross the bow of competitors within inches. Still, there's always risk of a crash with the slightest miscalculation.

"Everybody recognizes this is super intense," said champion sailor  Tim Prophit , 65, of St. Clair Shores, past commodore of Bayview Yacht Club and owner of Fast Tango, a North American 40 sailboat.

The teams are vying for trophies and flags to show their accomplishments.

The J.L. Hudson Trophy is awarded to the boat with the best corrected time in Division I, and the Canadian Club Classic Trophy is awarded to the boat with the best corrected time in Division II.

How can spectators follow the race?

Spectators can go to bycmack.com during the race and click on “RaceTracking” link to watch real-time GPS positioning of all the race boats, or, on your mobile device, download the free app YB Races and select the current race.

Boats will start arriving at Mackinac Island on Sunday afternoon and continue until Monday evening, all dependent upon the wind.

Finishes can be seen from Windermere Point on Mackinac Island at the south end of Main Street.

Sailors who have completed 25 Bayview Mackinac races are called “Old Goats,” according to the club, while those who have completed 50 are called “Grand Rams.”

"Double Goats" are sailors who have completed 25 Bayview Mackinac races and 25 Chicago Yacht Club race to Mackinac races. This year’s Chicago to Mackinac race encountered strong winds in Lake Michigan , snapping some boats’ masts and tossing one sailor overboard. No one was hurt.

Volunteers who have served for 15 years on the Race Committee are honored with the title “Old Forts,” as designated by the Race Committee.

This story includes material from a staff report by former Free Press reporter Phoebe Wall Howard and from the Bayview Yacht Club.

Best Books on Yachts

August has been named National Dog Month, National Sandwich Month, and most dubiously, National Brownies at Brunch Month, but aquaphiles know the final month of summer is for kicking back on a boat with a cocktail and a good read.

We scoured this season’s newest releases to feature a mix of novels and non-fiction with ties to the sea, as well as e-books and audiobooks convenient for maritime voyages.

Our picks include murder mysteries on the high seas, true tales of swashbuckling pirates, and histories spanning thousands of years that paint a picture of our seafaring civilization. There’s also a tell-all exposé from a megayacht chef, and a beautiful five-and-a-half-pound coffee table book on the history of the Monaco Yacht Club for the salon of your superyacht.

Here are eight recommendations that let you sit back, relax and enjoy the journey. All aboard!

‘Rip Tide’ By Colleen McKeegan

This murder mystery, released today, is set in the mid-aughts. Upon returning to their childhood beachfront home on the Jersey Shore, the Devine sisters, now in their 30s, are forced to confront their shared traumatic past when a body washes ashore. The narrative delves into the universal themes of friendship, first love and sisterhood, in all its beauty and brutality, to explore the lengths we’ll go to protect family. Plus, they have a cool family boat.

The 75-year-old Monaco Yacht Club has an outsized impact on the most glamorous city in the world. Jill Bobrow, one of the most prolific writers in the superyacht world, tells its story, from its origins during Prince Rainier III’s reign to its growth under his son, HSH Prince Albert II, who has been its president since 1984 (and who wrote the foreword). The ten-year-old Lord Norman Foster-designed building symbolizes the principality’s glamor at the edge of the Port Hercule harbor. But the yacht club has also taken the lead with multiple ocean sustainability efforts, thanks to Prince Albert’s passion for the sea. The book, weighing 5.5 lbs., is filled with beautiful photos. It would make the ideal coffee-table tome for yacht or coastal home.

Look no further for a great place to store a boat. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it. The staff there, especially "Mike" and "Ethan" are awesome. They recognize me everytime and make sure I'm well taken care of. It's shocking because I don't take my boat out that much and months may go by, but they remember my face and boat. I could not be happier with this operation.

Photo of P W.

The only reason I didn't give it a single star is because of its prime location. Unfortunately, they are well aware of their location and its value and the limited amount of competition. This is far and away the worst marina that I have ever used. It starts with a generally poor attitude from their employees who seem unable to keep up with the activity on busy weekends. On one occasion, I pulled up to a dock to tie my boat off and noted that the hose was cut in half and there was no way to attach a nozzle to it. When I brought it to the attention of an employee, he responded by saying, "welcome to port 32 marina" and shrugged. Countless times I have seen my boat placed on a bunk with weeds and grass still on it from the last trip (meaning it wasn't cleaned the time before). Somehow, despite the rubber on the docks, my boat seems to pick up new nicks and scratches every launch. I have no idea how they happen, but they are there. If you are lucky, when you get your boat, you will have raccoon tracks or other critter tracks on your boat when you arrive. When you mention it, an employee will say, 'yeah, we have some creatures living in the barn". Why they don't rinse the boat off for you when they put it in the water, I don't know, but it is definitely puzzling that they don't try to trap the critters and "relocate" them. The good news is, they charge you a premium price for the honor. Every single person I know at the marina complained about it, but seems to have no other choice but to keep their boat there.

We've decided to store our boat here and it is incredibly easy! The staff is smart and easy to work with. Tony is the man and Allie, Bill and others in the office make it fun to launch your boat. Ice and gas are always offered! Any problems with your boat? They can help you figure it out!!!

Excellent customer service and easy and accessible launch site! We have really enjoyed keeping our boat here.

Photo of Pedro J.

While my boat was at the marina they forgot to charge the batteries when I asked them multiple times I would get to the marina early just to load my equipment back into my truck and drive back home. Even worse about 4-5 months ago I sold my boat and informed them that I was no longer going to store it at the marina. I am still getting charged monthly installments. I have been in contact with them multiple times every month since then. Recently they finally said they were going to take care of it but once again I get charged for another month without my boat there. Bad business practices not worth the frustration.

Used to be a good marina. I was told when I put my boat there that whenever I Would no longer need to store it with them they would not continue to charge me. Now with the new owners I haven't had my boat there In months and they keep charging my card even tho I informed them when I sold my boat that I would no longer need them to store it. They have charged my card for three months since then even though I have been in contact with them. EVEN DURING A GLOBAL PANDEMICS THEY ARE UNWILLING TO HELP.

Photo of Hector J.

As a former worker as well as a nephew of a former patron of port 32 Marina in Tampa. I will tell you right now, RUN! Bill and Ted will butter you up and try to show you how excellent the service they provide truly is, but in fact it is quite the contrary. The boats are half heartedly sprayed down after use unless you provide a hefty tip in which effort to clean is actually exerted. Batteries left on is a very common occurrence. Workers who are unfamiliar with driving boats are hired at low cost to management, resulting in many damaged boats. Workers are not drug tested before they are hired, as well as during employment, due to the fact that Port 32 can not afford to lose workers. Many workers, including forklift drivers, leave on break to go drink alcohol, and return to work. The price of fuel is outrageously expensive, recently increased to $4.50 per gallon from $4.25. In my humble opinion, the price for the service provided by Port 32 Tampa is heavily outweighed by the costs.

PORT 32 Purchases Tampa Harbour Yacht Club

Press Release | August 6, 2018

PORT 32, (formerly Atlantic Marina Holdings), a Charleston, South Carolina based marina owner, developer and operator, has purchased Tampa Harbour Yacht Club. The marina is located at 5200 West Tyson Ave in Tampa, FL and consists of approximately 720 dry slips, staging slips, 25 leasable wet slips, a fuel dock, transient dock, pool, Hula Bay (an on-site restaurant/bar), and commercial space, including a boat dealer/service center, known as Family Boating Center.

Tampa Harbour services greater Tampa and Hillsborough County. The property is located in the heart of the newly designed Westshore Marina District. Upon completion, the Marina District and adjacent parcels are anticipated to include 1,500 luxury residential units and national builders have already committed to the development of over 30 acres within the district. The marina is strategically positioned to serve as a gateway to Tampa Bay and the Gulf.

Joe Miller, PORT 32’s managing principal, stated “PORT 32 considers Tampa Harbour to be among the top marina facilities in the Southeast and, in particular, on the West coast of Florida. We plan to enhance what is already an excellent facility. New management has been put in place, and we expect to make a number of improvements to the project, with our   primary goal being to maximize our customers’ experience”.

Tampa Harbour is the fourth marina property purchased by PORT 32 in Florida in the last three years. Previous acquisitions include PGA Marina in Palm Beach Gardens, Fort Lauderdale Boatyard and Marina in Fort Lauderdale, and nearby Tierra Verde Marina Resort in Tierra Verde, Florida.   Both PGA Marina and Ft. Lauderdale Boatyard and Marina are total redevelopments which are slated for completion in 2019. When completed, with the addition of Tierra Verde and Tampa Harbour, PORT 32 will operate approximately 2,600 slips in Florida and 3,600 slips in total.

Tampa Harbour will be renamed PORT 32 Tampa . The three other Florida marinas in PORT 32’s portfolio are also being renamed. These will be PORT 32 Palm Beach Gardens , PORT 32 Fort Lauderdale , and PORT 32 Tierra Verde .

Miller further stated “Tampa Harbour, much like our other three recent Florida acquisitions, represented an outstanding opportunity for our company and investors. We take a very focused and disciplined approach when it comes to acquisitions and growth of our portfolio, and Tampa Harbour met all our criteria. The marina is large, well built, and maximizes use of the site. All of our recent acquisitions are modern facilities, or will be after redevelopment, which are well positioned to accommodate today’s larger and more complex vessels. By comparison, much of the existing dry stack marina market is becoming functionally obsolete as boat designs change and grow longer, wider, and taller. Tampa Harbour is also dominant in its trade area, being one of few drystacks on the east side of Tampa Bay. We believe this trade area to exceed a population of 1,000,000.   And finally, Tampa is booming at present and the Westshore Marina District is a perfect location from which to capitalize on this dynamic market.”

PORT 32 was represented by Dunston Powell of Carolina Commercial during the purchase of this property. Financing was provided by Chris Daniel and First United Bank.   PORT 32 Tampa will be managed by PORT 32 Management out of Charleston.
