The new Viking 58 Convertible introduced in 2018, is the second generation of 58C and is already a tournament champion and deemed best in its class of high-performance family cruising yachts. The first production run of the 58 Convertible spanned nearly a decade, from 1991-2000, and with over 110 boats sold, propelled Viking Yachts to global recognition as a top-notch sportfishing yacht builder. The new design of the 58C is also built on the heritage of another immensely popular Viking model—both generations of the 55 Convertible. Viking’s design and engineering teams have optimized the length-to-beam ratio with the new 58C, using the 55C’s 17’9” beam, to give her additional interior volume, while enhancing the ride. The refined proportions and softer, efficient running bottom allow the new 58C to run faster in the same sea conditions and reach the same top speed of the 55C, using the new optional 10-cylinder MTU engines. Performance is one of the new 58C’s greatest attributes. But there is much more to this lean, efficient, operator-friendly sportfishing yacht.

DESCRIPTION

Designed to be ideal for an owner-operator or a part-time crew, the 58C benefits from Viking’s decades of engineering and advances in technology, without reducing ease of operation, maintenance, and access to systems. Three feet longer than the 55C, and refinements to the interior layout have benefitted the 58C’s cockpit and salon, giving the cockpit 14 sq ft more area than the 55C. The 165 sq ft cockpit is the largest in the 58 Convertible’s class and is loaded with the standard features expected of a new Viking tournament-ready convertible sportfishing yacht.

The efficiently arranged cockpit features an insulated removable fishbox recessed in the full length of cockpit’s starboard side deck. Two in-deck storage boxes are on portside; the forward unit can be set-up as a livewell. The centerline hatch to the lazarette provides access to an option that has become more popular in recent years—a Seakeeper SK9 or SK16, along with convenient access to steering and drain pumps.

Standard cockpit equipment includes flush mounted rod holders, walk-through transom door with lift gate, a side locker for gaffs, freshwater and seawater washdowns, rounded coamings, and more. A laminated mounting plate for installing a fighting chair, pedestal rocket launcher, or table is built into the cockpit sole. There is plenty of walkaround space behind a full-size fighting chair (optional) and comfortable seating in the shaded observation mezzanine. Mezzanine amenities include Sunbrella cushions and an armrest with drink holders. The portside seat section has a large freezer underneath and a cooler box built into the step below. The centerline seat section lifts to provide access to the gleaming Awlgrip white engine room. A refrigerated cooler is built into the step to salon door. A tackle cabinet with drawers in on the mezzanine starboard side, with an insulated storage box in step below it. As always, owners could select from Viking’s options or other preferences to add or upgrade equipment and amenities to their personal style of fishing or usage.

From the cockpit mezzanine, an anodized aluminum ladder leads up to the flybridge, which features a rounder, efficient walkaround center console style helm with raised teak helm pod and stainless-steel steering wheel. Single lever controls are on either side as are recessed radio boxes with split hinged lids. Electronics are recessed into the upper console and protected by clear acrylic lids. An optional hardtop drop-down box can hold additional electronics. Custom electronics are provided by Atlantic Marine Electronics. Another Viking subsidiary, Palm Beach Towers, can build and install custom towers and more. Starboard and portside lounges and a 2-person forward console seat with built-in drink holders provide ample guest seating, along with a starboard side aft-facing jump seat. Viking has added a freezer and refrigerated drink box in forward starboard and port sides of bridge—no need for a loose cooler. Bridge can be enclosed for weather protection with a Costa Clear zippered enclosure.

The entrance to the wide-open salon, galley, dinette area is through the electronic sliding pocket door on starboard side of cockpit. The galley and dinette positions have been reversed from the 55C layout for greater efficiencies in the interior space. The updated styling is fluid and sleek, with no hard edges or corners. Beautiful high gloss (satin finish is an option) teak or walnut interior joinery creates an elegant, inviting ambiance to relax, dine, and socialize with three distinct seating areas. The 56 Convertible’s U-shaped galley is on portside, forward of the salon’s large L-shaped lounge and mappa burl hi-lo cocktail table. The galley features engineered stone countertops and an angled raised bar with two upholstered bar stools at the inboard end of peninsula counter. The undermounted stainless steel sink, 4-burner electric cooktop, and microwave/convection oven are clustered for convenience and efficiency. SubZero undermounted deep drawer refrigerator and freezer units offer plenty of cold storage for longer cruises and tournaments.

Electrical distribution panels are conveniently located in the salon and galley. For relaxation, the starboard aft cabinetry holds a 50” HDTV on an electric riser and entertainment center with surround sound. Forward on starboard side, the C-shaped dinette with seating for four, follows the flowing lines of the salon cabinetry, for a streamlined companionway from salon entry to belowdecks forepeak stateroom, visually enlarging the interior living space.

Both the 55C and new 58C offer Viking’s standard 3-stateroom/2-head convertible layout for maximum flexibility—cruising or on the tournament circuit. The new 58 Convertible has the master suite positioned on portside (opposite of the 55C) and features an athwartship queen berth with greater walkaround space and larger maple-lined hanging lockers. The HDTV is mounted on the bulkhead opposite the bed. The master stateroom has an ensuite head with large, enclosed shower. The forward guest stateroom can have a centerline queen berth or crossover berths. A Bomar hatch with OceanAir screen shade system is overhead. Amenities include a maple-lined hanging locker, and cabinet and drawer storage. The starboard stateroom features side-by-side bunks and a maple-lined hanging locker with drawer storage. Both guest staterooms can have an optional HDTV installed. Master and guest/day heads have Amtico flooring, electric heads, engineered stone countertops, enclosed shower stalls, storage in lower vanity, and a mirrored medicine cabinet above.

The free-flowing spacious interior is designed for maximum efficiency, comfort, and privacy in elegant luxury whether family cruising or hardcore fishing.

The Viking 58 Convertible has a number of propulsion options. The standard propulsion package is twin 1,400 hp MAN V12 diesel engines. Viking’s options are twin MAN V12 diesels in 1,550 hp, 1,650 hp, or 1,900 hp sizes and the new twin 1,622 hp MTU 10V 2000 M96L diesels. Range with the MTUs exceeds 400 NM at cruise speed (per Viking test data).

The 58 Convertible’s length overall is 58’11” with a beam of 17’9” and a 5’ draft. Gross weight with a standard fuel load is 80,379 lbs. Fuel capacity is 1,502 gallons (optional 1,741 gal.), water capacity is 207 gallons and holding tank is 101 gallons.

Viking Yachts 58 Convertible

Continuing their recent trend of launching exciting new models, Viking Yachts recently held the world premier of the new 58 Convertible, or 58C, at the 2018 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show in November. The new Viking 58C will be the second generation for this model which previously helped secure Viking as the dominant Sportfish builder in the industry when the original 58 Convertible first launched. “From 1991 to 2000 we sold 110 of our 58 Convertibles,” says Viking President and CEO Patrick Healey. “It was our largest boat at the time and a major milestone for us.” Viking looks to continue the same success with this version of the 58C that will benefit from all of the advancements in materials, construction techniques and equipment, and knowledge gained over the last two decades since the first 58 splashed. “She’s a true offshore thoroughbred,” says Viking Design Manager David Wilson. “The boat is ideal for the owner/operator family man or the hardcore tournament competitor. She’ll compete in performance, engineering and interior accommodations with larger boats, certainly those well into the 60-plus-foot range.”

The fishing spaces aboard the new Viking 58 are simply incredible. With the almost 18-foot beam, the cockpit is spacious and loaded with rod holders, livewells, in-deck fish boxes, and everything an angler could dream up. And measuring at an unbelievable 165 square feet of space in the cockpit, there is plenty of room for maneuvering around the angler battling during a heated tournament. Viking's signature observation mezzanine overlooks the cockpit and provides a great space in the shade to watch the action from the leather seats. Just as exciting as the cockpit it the flybridge of the 58 Convertible which is an oversized space thanks again to the beam and solid construction. The center console walk-around command station on the flybridge is equipped with power-assisted hydraulic steering, single-lever electronic controls with station select and keypad, and electronic trolling valves. 360-degree visibility is excellent in all directions. The captain and companion sit in two pedestal seats. Guests have their choice of lounges that flank the console and an aft-facing jump seat on the starboard side. In true Viking fashion, the accommodations inside are first class. As you walk in from the cockpit, you will immediately notice the L-shaped couch and table across from the entertainment center with flat screen television. The open concept keeps everyone in the salon, galley, and dining area all connected. The galley is stocked with the highest quality appliances and is located across from the starboard-side dinette that comfortably seats four adults. The galley features engineered stone counters, Amtico flooring and a two-stool bar area as well. Under-counter Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer units with deep pull-out drawers, high-gloss teak-faced cabinetry, a four-burner cooktop and a microwave/convection oven will impress even the most discerning chefs that might be on board. Longer fishing excursions require more cold space and more storage to take care of a hungry crew on board and Viking makes sure there is plenty of room. The three-stateroom, two-head layout on the Viking 58 Convertible is customizable depending on what the owner chooses to do with the stateroom layouts. Either the second stateroom can be a forward-placed VIP with queen-sized berth or it can be changed out with cross-over bunks. The master cabin has its head ensuite and features a queen-sized berth and ample storage spaces. There is a washer and dryer placed in between the guest staterooms in the companionway. A Viking Sportfish wouldn't be complete without some serious horsepower and the 58 Convertible is no exception. Owners have a choice of multiple propulsion packages from either MAN or MTU. The first 58 Convertible that will debut at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show comes equipped with MTU V10 2000 M96L 1600HP each diesel engines. With that power, Viking anticipates that the 58C will reach 40 knots and cruise at 35 knots. Our 58 C builds on the success of the Gen I 58, but its pedigree also includes two generations of the 55 Convertible. The boat has exhibited an incredible ability to keep spray down, running clean with its molded strakes guiding the water to break just aft of the house windshield. These performance attributes are due, in part, to the aggressive positioning of the strakes as well as their downturned angle and radiused shape.

The 58’s galley is on the port side, while the dinette takes the starboard position. The result: a more streamlined layout with a convenient companionway that extends in a straight line from the starboard-side salon door all the way to the forepeak. Below, the master stateroom is now on the port side with an athwartships bed that allows for increased walkaround and hanging locker space.

Efficiency can be seen in every area throughout the boat, including the mechanical systems in the engine room and lazarette. While two generators are offered, the standard 21.5 kW unit delivers more than enough power for everyday uses. That same engineering flexibility exists for gyro stabilization. Although we offer both the Seakeeper SK 16 and Seakeeper SK 9, the latter provides a very high level of stability.

At 165 square feet, the 58 Convertible’s cockpit is the largest in its class—a full 12 square feet bigger than its closest competitor. All of the cockpit’s lids open and close via stainless steel gas pistons. Their undersides are rimmed with thick gasketing, and deep gutters around the hatch openings ensure quick drainage. The centerline lazarette houses the Seakeeper and provides access to the steering and drain pumps in the Snow White Awlgripped bilge. The starboard-side full-length fishbox is insulated and removable, while the port side contains two in-deck storage boxes. The forward unit can be rigged as a live well.

The cockpit sole is built with a laminated mounting plate for fighting chair, rocket launcher or table installations. Standard cockpit equipment includes flush-mounted rod holders; a side locker for gaffs; a walk-through transom door with lift gate; rounded coamings and toekick space for comfort and balance; and fresh and seawater wash downs.

A comfortable place to take in the action without interfering with the anglers, the observation mezzanine has Sunbrella covered cushions with an armrest that holds a pair of drink holders. The port-side seating has an underneath freezer with cooler space on the step below. The centerline seating provides access to the engine room; there’s also a refrigerated drink box undermounted in the step leading to the salon. On the starboard side, you have a tackle cabinet with a push-release door and drawers, as well as an insulated storage box in the step below.

A one-piece anodized aluminum ladder leads to the flybridge. Powder-coated aluminum handrails are conveniently located above the ladder and at the helm. The flybridge’s extended overhang, closed in by an anodized aluminum aft railing, gives you extra room behind the helm and companion seats.

The flybridge features a design for the center console walk-around helm, with a more radiused shape that gives it a sleek look but also maximizes space. A stainless steel steering wheel and single-lever controls are mounted on a raised teak helm pod. Dual recessed radio boxes with standard hinged split lids flank the wheel. Recessed electronics are installed in the upper console, easily viewable and protected from the elements by acrylic fitted lids with gaskets and stainless steel gas pistons.

The three-stateroom, two-head layout offers maximum flexibility for cruising as well as campaigning on the tournament trail. Air conditioning with reverse cycle heat and temperature control; wall-to-wall carpeting, overhead LED lights; decorative under-bed rope lighting; Handcraft innerspring mattresses with quilted designer bed spreads; and recessed stereo speakers are some of the comforts and conveniences found in all three staterooms.

The forward guest stateroom comes with either a single walkaround queen or crossover berths. An overhead Bomar foredeck hatch comes with the Ocean Air screen shade system. Rounding out the amenities are a spacious maple-lined hanging locker, reading lights, rope lighting behind the valances, and storage drawers and cabinets. In the starboard stateroom, you have side-by-side bunks, a maple-lined hanging locker with drawer storage underneath. An optional HD TV can be installed in both guest suites.

The master and guest heads feature Amtico flooring, electric heads, engineered stone countertops and satin nickel hardware. There’s storage in the lower vanity, and the upper vanity includes a mirrored medicine cabinet with doors. The beautifully finished enclosed showers also have satin nickel fixtures and are equipped with a drain that leads to an automatic sump pump in the bilge.

The 58 C maintains Viking’s reputation for engine room excellence with top-shelf machinery and industry-leading design and engineering. Systems include Delta-T ventilation and water suppression; automatically or manually operated fire suppression tied into the main engine and generator ignitions; integrated engine mounting for efficient transfer of energy to the drive train; and oil changing. Of course, all of these systems are mounted with superb precision and attention to detail in an immaculate engine room painted with Snow White Awlgrip for visibility and ease of maintenance.

Yacht Description

58 Viking on the move.  This hallmark boat changed everything for Viking.  How?  Here is how,  The newest and largest of their fleet when this boat came out in 1994, brought you a custom boat built on a  production line with the same quality to each customers.  Viking decided it needed to beat the competition and make a better boat. How?

First the 58 Viking hull shape changed so that the boat could achieve faster speeds with a smoother ride in both following seas as wells as straight on the bow.  The bow section changed to a sharper entry as well as more flair for a dryer ride.

The aft sections especially under the bottom were resurfaced for more lifting and better handling while cornering with still giving you a 165 square feet of cockpit. Okay, but what makes it different from past Viking boats?

The priority composite layup using AME 4000 Modified epoxy resin, which gave the boat much stronger hull sections to withstand rough seas at high speeds when most boats tend to flex under this stress.

Viking continued with Steel I beam engine beds and a built in composite fuel cell low in the hull. Next came the  Man 2842 engines, putting out 1200hp per engine and weighing less by over two tons compared to the Detroit Diesel.   Stronger, Lighter, Faster.  Super boat!

How Fast ? 36knots wide open with a 30 knot cruise speed. This put Viking head to head with all custom made sport fishing convertibles and left Hatteras and Bertram trying to catch up.

Viking has built just over a 100 58 convertible / sport fish boats and is their most successful model to date.

The 58 Viking interior space gives you a Three stateroom Three head design. All ensuite, meaning lots of privacy for every one.

The Master Stateroom is giving you a full size bed with walk around space on each side.  VIP stateroom is forward with a space due to the increase in bow space.  There is a Washer / Dryer along with the third stateroom to Starboard side with bunks and perfect for crew.

Ideal for the owner/operator or the owner who wants to utilize a part-time crew, the Viking 58 Convertible benefits from Viking’s industry-leading engineering and technological advancements without sacrificing ease of operation, maintenance and access to operational systems. Our design, engineering and manufacturing teams scrutinized every material and method used to build the boat and each and every system to come away with a lean, efficient and operator-friendly sportfishing yacht. “We were determined to keep weight down,” says David. “When it comes to speed and performance, every pound counts.”

Efficiency can be seen in every area throughout the boat, including the mechanical systems in the engineroom and lazarette. While two generators are offered, the standard 21.5 kW unit delivers more than enough power for everyday uses. That same engineering flexibility exists for gyro stabilization. Although we offer both the Seakeeper SK 16 and Seakeeper SK 9, the latter provides a very high level of stability.

Control of the electrical systems is easily managed, with conveniently located distribution panels in the salon and galley equipped with simple-to-use and clearly labeled conventional switches. Below the water, a series of dedicated pumps for the air conditioning, live wells, washdown and other seawater-fed components have been designed, engineered and installed for durability and longevity.

Cockpit & Mezzanine At 165 square feet, the Viking 58 Convertible’s cockpit is the largest in its class—a full 12 square feet bigger than its closest competitor. All of the cockpit’s lids open and close via stainless steel gas pistons. Their undersides are rimmed with thick gasketing, and deep gutters around the hatch openings ensure quick drainage. The centerline lazarette houses the Seakeeper and provides access to the steering and drain pumps in the Snow White Awlgripped bilge. The starboard-side full-length fishbox is insulated and removable, while the port side contains two in-deck storage boxes. The forward unit can be rigged as a live well.

A comfortable place to take in the action without interfering with the anglers, the observation mezzanine has Sunbrella covered cushions with an armrest that holds a pair of drink holders. The port-side seating has an underneath freezer with cooler space on the step below. The centerline seating provides access to the engineroom; there’s also a refrigerated drink box undermounted in the step leading to the salon. On the starboard side, you have a tackle cabinet with a push-release door and drawers, as well as an insulated storage box in the step below.

Flybridge The flybridge features a new design for the center console walk-around helm, with a more radiused shape that gives it a sleek look but also maximizes space. A stainless steel steering wheel and single-lever controls are mounted on a raised teak helm pod. Dual recessed radio boxes with standard hinged split lids flank the wheel. Recessed electronics are installed in the upper console, easily viewable and protected from the elements by acrylic fitted lids with gaskets and stainless steel gas pistons.

Atlantic Marine Electronics and Palm Beach Towers, both Viking subsidiaries, provide custom electronics and tower installations. An optional powered drop-down hardtop box can hold even more electronics.

Guests have their choice of port and starboard lounges, a two-person forward console seat and an aft-facing jump seat on the starboard side. A freezer and a refrigerated drink box are conveniently located in the port and starboard forward corners. A Costa Clear enclosure provides weather protection and gin-clear views.

Salon, Galley & Dinette High-gloss teak or walnut are offered for the Viking 58 C’s interior. A satin finish is an option. Privacy and comfort are the hallmarks of every Viking yacht interior, and the salon of the 58 Convertible brings these elements to the next level by providing three unique living and entertaining areas. After a day of patrolling the canyons for billfish and tuna, the port-side L-shaped lounge (with underneath storage), which faces the starboard-side HD TV that rises from the starboard-side cabinetry, is a wonderful place to relax and plan tomorrow’s adventures. A hi-lo mappa burl cocktail table is standard and adds versatility to the space.

Sub-Zero under-counter refrigeration makes it easy to make sandwiches or grab snacks while keeping an eye on the action in the cockpit through the salon’s aft window. The galley counters and raised bar are topped with engineered stone that artfully complements the teak or walnut cabinetry and the Amtico flooring. The stainless-steel sink, microwave/convection oven and four-burner electric cooktop are nested for convenience and practicality. Storage is abundant throughout, and when it’s time to sit down for meals or to relax, the bar stools and starboard-side dinette accommodate a crowd with ease.

Accommodations The three-stateroom, two-head layout offers maximum flexibility for cruising as well as campaigning on the tournament trail. Air conditioning with reverse cycle heat and temperature control; wall-to-wall carpeting, overhead LED lights; decorative under-bed rope lighting; Handcraft innerspring mattresses with quilted designer bed spreads; and recessed stereo speakers are some of the comforts and conveniences found in all three staterooms.

As you would expect from Viking, the master suite is especially spacious and elegant with an athwartship queen walk-around bed and upholstered headboard that faces an HD TV mounted on the inboard bulkhead. Storage includes a credenza, drawers under the bed, end tables, and his and her maple-lined hanging lockers.

The forward guest stateroom comes with either a single walkaround queen or crossover berths. An overhead Bomar foredeck hatch comes with the Ocean Air screen shade system. Rounding out the amenities are a spacious maple-lined hanging locker, reading lights, rope lighting behind the valances, and storage drawers and cabinets.

In the starboard stateroom, you have side-by-side bunks, a maple-lined hanging locker with drawer storage underneath. An optional HD TV can be installed in both guest suites.

Propulsion & Engineroom A pair of MAN V12 1400CRM (1400 MHP) engines serve as the standard propulsion package. MAN V12 1550CRM (1550 MHP) and MAN V12 1900CRM (1900 MHP) engines as well as the new MTU 10V2000 M96L (1622 MHP) engines are optional. With the MTUs, the Viking 58 Convertible hits 42 knots at the top end and cruises at 36 knots, depending upon load, sea, hull bottom, propeller conditions and ambient temperatures. Range exceeds 400 nautical miles at cruise speed.
