The company is set in its sights to ensure they are the very best in the cruising catamaran industry. In the beginning, the centre-boarders; a 505, 470 and 420 —were built with composite sandwich construction —never before seen or used. IOR prototypes were impressive in their winning some of this period’s premier races. Fountaine Pajot’s first multihulls soon followed – the Royale trimaran and the Charente Maritime catamaran (which outdid all its competitors doing her first transoceanic race). The key ingredients —innovation and experience —catapulted Fountaine Pajor to new heights!

Their dedicated and phenomenal executive staff are totally committed to the final product and client and never fail in their love of the wind and sea.

Who are these visionaries and what background had they come from? First, we have Jean-François Fountaine — included in the 1976 Olympic Games who is a half-tonner world champion, was second in the Solitaire du Figaro race and won two transAtlantic races on board Charente Maritime. Then we have Yves Pajot, a gold medallist at the 1972 Olympic Games, with a focus on sailing dinghies and cruiser-racers. Next, Pierre Fountaine, a twice a half-tonner world champion, and, finally, Claire Fountaine —a world champion in the 470 class and twice runner up at the world championships.

Another member of the Fountaine Pajot team, won the Hobie Cat 16 World Champion. HIs name was Romain Motteau, Fountaine Pajot’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer. He has crewed on the Extrem 40 and won the Archipelago Open race in the 18-foot class. Romain runs a tight ‘ship’ to ensure the quality that Fountaine Pajot is known for.

The world’s leading builder of cruising catamarans, the Fountaine Pajot boatyard was set up in 1976 near La Rochelle. The original team consisted of four people and built the 505 under the leadership of Jean-François FOUNTAINE, a well known regatta competitor recently returned from the Montreal Olympics. Innovative and well built, these craft immediately attracted the best French competitors. The enterprise then developed further, with other models of dinghies, the 420 and 470, built at the new Aigrefeuille yard, opened in 1978.

As early as 1980, Fountaine Pajot altered course and started to build Prototype IOR, monohull racers. These half-tonners from the Fountaine stable were to become world champions and win the prestigious Figaro solo race. The reputation of the yard in the world of ocean racing was thus established.

In 1981, the first multi-hulled vessel left the Fountaine Pajot yard. This was the 18 m deep-sea racing trimaran,the Royale, built entirely in foam-core sandwich for Loïc Caradec et Philippe Facque. The Fountaine Pajot team committed itself to open class racing, involving itself deeply in the adventure of Charente Maritime sailing vessels. Fountaine Pajot started building cruising catamarans in 1983 with a vision to develop a complete range of entry level through to large ocean going, world cruising catamaran designs. At this early stage in the development of production catamarans, Fountaine Pajot set out with the focus on innovative, safe, unsinkable and seaworthy designs that are now the benchmark for the world catamaran market.

Fountaine Pajot has launched over 30 models since 1983 delivering over 2500 boats to date. Dual hull and power cruising catamaran ranges are leaders in their respective market segments, instantly recognizable on seas around the world.

In 1976, Jean-Fancois Fountaine, a well-known regatta competitor, founded Fountaine Pajot with three partners. He set out to establish himself in the French boat building industry, starting with the production of sailboat catamarans. Fountaine Pajot launched its first sail cruising catamaran, Louisiane 37, in 1983. Shortly following came the launch of Casamance 43, a new model with feature solutions that became trademarks on all Fountaine Pajot vessels, such as fixed fins instead of pivoting centerboards for easier handling when sailing. The hallmark of Fountaine Pajot catamarans, inspired by The Vénézia designed by Joubert Nivelt, was established in 1992. This involved bringing the roof forward over its panoramic windows to eliminate direct sunlight and heat from the cabin area. In 1998, Fountaine Pajot launched its first power cruising catamaran, known as “Trawler Catamarans”. The Maryland 37 and the Greenland 34 quickly gained popularity in the powerboat market. Driven by innovation and efficiency, Fountaine Pajot has launched more than 30 models since 1983, becoming one of the top boat builders of dual sail and power catamarans, ranging from 36 to 80 feet.

In the beginning, the centre-boarders; a 505, 470 and 420 —were built with composite sandwich construction —never before seen or used. IOR prototypes were impressive in their winning some of this period’s premier races. Fountaine Pajot’s first multihulls soon followed – the Royale trimaran and the Charente Maritime catamaran (which outdid all its competitors doing her first transoceanic race). Who are these visionaries and what background had they come from? First, we have Jean-François Fountaine — included in the 1976 Olympic Games who is a half-tonner world champion, was second in the Solitaire du Figaro race and won two transAtlantic races on board Charente Maritime. Then we have Yves Pajot, a gold medallist at the 1972 Olympic Games, with a focus on sailing dinghies and cruiser-racers. Next, Pierre Fountaine, a twice a half-tonner world champion, and, finally, Claire Fountaine —a world champion in the 470 class and twice runner up at the world championships.

Another member of the Fountaine Pajot team, won the Hobie Cat 16 World Champion. HIs name was Romain Motteau, Fountaine Pajot’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer. He has crewed on the Extrem 40 and won the Archipelago Open race in the 18-foot class. Romain runs a tight ‘ship’ to ensure the quality that Fountaine Pajot is known for.

"Sweet T" a Fountaine Pajot Maryland 37 Catamaran has a long cruising range and a hull form that provides exceptional seagoing qualities. This type of trawler enables one to cover 1000 nautical miles at nine knots. Her two hulls and two engines provide great stability for anchoring and ease of maneuvering, allowing the Maryland to evolve in small spaces. The Maryland 37 has a large saloon with a dinette table for six to eight people which can be converted into a double bed. The galley is designed with a large worktop, a cabinetwork bar, and a cockpit with a panoramic view. The two beautiful cabins have private showers and toilets. On deck there are two aft platforms, with a ladder and a cold-water shower on the port side. The flybridge features custom dual helm and crew seats, bimini with full enclosure, Garmin electronics.

Vessel Walk Through

The Fountaine Pajot 37 power catamaran provides a great cruising platform and is extremely popular throughout the Caribbean Islands and Chesapeake Bay. “SWEET T” has been well-maintained with numerous upgrades to make her “turnkey”, and not a project. Recent upgrades include port side Marine-Air air conditioner, Northern Lights generator, two (2) Jabsco electric freshwater flush heads, flybridge dual double helm seats, Garmin touch screen GPS/Chart Plotter, stainless double-drawer pull-out refrigerator/freezer, Corian galley countertops, microwave, custom carpet, and new forward lower helm window coverings. 

The vessel’s two-hull arrangement ensures stability and easy maneuverability, with a spacious cockpit and wide side decks leading forward. Spiral stairs lead to the fly bridge, that offers seating for 6, including dual state-of-the-art bench helm seats, a full enclosure that provides protection from the weather including the aft bridge deck. When the weather gets bad or you just want more comfort, move to the salon helm station which offers AC/Heat, windshield wipers and close proximity to the galley! The 17’ beam provides accommodations that are roomy and welcoming. Twin staterooms are each fitted with full-size berths, and ensuite heads with separate shower stalls. Up three steps, port and starboard, lead to the spacious salon/galley area with a centerline lower helm station. To starboard, a large U-shaped dinette with seating for 6, converts to a full-size berth. The expansive galley features a three-burner propane oven/stove, microwave, double sink, refrigerator/freezer stainless pull-out drawers, substantial counter surface and ample storage space. 

The huge interior is ideal for live-boards and is comfortable as you cruise. Thanks to the renown catamaran experience of the brand, and popularity throughout the Islands, these boats are quickly becoming the preferred cruisers.

Transaction with Fexco has allowed Western Union to control directly more than 10 thousand points of service, which belonged to Fexco in 7 European countries (Spain, UK, Sweden, Ireland, Denmark, Norway and Finland). Sibley, the founder of Western Union, did not build a new telegraph lines, and persuaded the other players to join. American Telegraph Company, however, still had to buy it.
