Lewis Hamilton, Shaun White, Nina Dobrev, Zoey Deutch and Jared Leto were among a group of celebrities who kicked off the new year cruising around Antarctica.

Photos and videos the stars posted on social media showed the group on a luxury superyacht, posing with penguins and snowboarding.

It has since been revealed how much the trip approximately cost, leaving shocked fans unable to comprehend what it would be like to be so wealthy.

The superyacht used was the “ Octopus ”, built for the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. The 126-metre vessel is one of the world’s largest yachts.

Octopus, listed for sale for €235 million ($362 million), was sold to Swedish billionaire Roger Samuelsson in 2021 and is available for charter via Mayfair-based yacht broker Camper & Nicholsons from $US2.2 million ($3.16 million) per week.

The yacht has eight decks, sleeps 12 guests, has two helipads, gym, spa, cinema, library, pool, basketball court, and underwater observation lounge.

An American TikToker did a deep dive on the trip, estimating it to be worth $US3.49 million (about $5 million), including tips and other expenses, and one couple’s flights from Los Angeles.

This only included the cost of hiring the yacht for one week. According to Instagram, the famous group were in Antarctica for at least three weeks, meaning the trip could have cost triple the amount.

“So do these people just Venmo each other $30(0)k or what?!” wrote one woman.

“I swear we truly don’t understand how rich rich people actually are,” said another.

“Stuck somewhere between ‘damn I want to be rich’ and ‘eat the rich’,” one person joked.

“I cannot imagine living like that like WHAT,” another added

One curious person said: “I want to know how much money they spend yearly just on vacation expenses.”

Some suggested Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton , who Forbes reported to have made $US65 million ($93.2 million) last year across contracts and sponsorships, would have shouted the trip.

Formula 1 is never enough to satiate the hunger of Lewis Hamilton for thrill and adrenaline. During the mid-season breaks and the off-season, the Briton engages himself in adventure activities. Among those, skydiving and surfing are his favorites. However, he had something really special planned to celebrate his 38th birthday. That was a trip to Antarctica, among penguins and seals, on an ultra-luxurious yacht.

Hamilton just went through one of the worst Formula 1 seasons he has ever had in his 16-year career. The Briton, for the first time, went through a full season without a race win. A place where he could find peace and gather his thoughts is exactly what he needed to come back stronger for the upcoming 2023 season.

Hamilton recently posted videos from the South Pole, jogging for 7 miles along the trail that featured penguins and seals. He also posted some pictures on Instagram posing in the snow, wearing a thick orange jacket. As details emerge of his vacations, turns out he had quite a lavish ride out there.

Hamilton was on board the mega-yacht Octopus. Standing tall at 414 ft., it is one of the world’s biggest mega yachts, originally built for Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. Swedish billionaire Roger Samuelsson currently owns it and it costs $2.19 million a week to charter. The reported cost of the yacht is £200 million ($243 million).

“The vessel boasts a glass-bottomed aquarium, dive center, and underwater robot,” The Sun reported .

The 7-mile run, even in the off-season, in treacherous conditions, shows Lewis’ commitment to his health. Modern F1 drivers are fitter and leaner than their earlier counterparts. The commitment to excel is praiseworthy as they all have pretty tough training regimes and diet plans.

Hamilton revealed why he loves adventure sports and activities

In 2020, Lewis appeared in an interview with Desus & Mero for Showtime. They talked about his various experiences, ranging from Met Gala to rivalry with Max Verstappen. But one part of the interview that caught our attention was when he talked about the need for adrenaline when he’s not racing and the activities he engages himself in.

“I love surfing. I sky dive, love skydiving,”  he said. The shocked hosts asked him if he was “ an adrenaline junkie.”  Hamilton answered, “ Yeah, you basically have to substitute it. Because the races. You’re on this massive high and when you come after the race, the next couple of days, you’re just crashing down. Then you hit a low. Then you have to pick yourself back up. You’re back into training. So I usually fill it in with things, fun activities in between training.”

Remember the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s 26-metre superyacht dubbed the ‘Octopus’, one of the largest yachts in the world, and how it was set to take fancy people on fancy trips to the South Pole?

Yeah, that’s hip and happening right now as a couple of high-flying celebs showed off their expensive AF trip on the ‘Gram.

The Octopus was sold to Swedish billionaire Roger Samuelsson in 2021 for around $250 million and has since been available for charter via Mayfair-based yacht broker Camper & Nicholsons from $2,2 million per week.

The eight-decked, 12-sleeper superyacht has two helipads, a gym, a spa, a cinema, a library, a pool, a basketball court, an underwater observation lounge, and seven support vessels.

The superyacht takes those lucky enough to have deep pockets on scenic expeditions to Antarctica (where the vessel also partakes in scientific research) allowing the wealthy clientele to make preposterous requests to turn their trip into the ultimate luxury excursion.

NZ Herald reported that Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, former professional snowboarder and skateboarder Shaun White and his actress girlfriend Nina Dobrev, along with Zoey Deutch and Jared Leto, were among a group of celebrities who kicked off the new year cruising around the southernmost continent:

Photos and videos the stars posted on social media showed the group on a luxury superyacht, posing with penguins and snowboarding.

I don’t know about you, but it’s hard to look at the photos with all this jealousy clouding my vision:

And her man Shaun:

Last but not least, Zoey:

An American TikToker did a deep dive on the trip and revealed how much it approximately cost each person who went, with one person joking that it feels like being “stuck somewhere between ‘damn I want to be rich’ and ‘eat the rich'”:

@ivebentraveling How much did #shaunwhite & #ninadobrev New Year’s trip to #antarctica cost?? 🇦🇶 #zoeydeutch #jimmytatro #jaredleto #paulallen #octopussuperyacht #luxuryvacation #celebrityvacation #traveltiktok #visitantarctica #drakespassage ♬ Sunroof – Nicky Youre & dazy

Perhaps Lewis Hamilton, who Forbes reported to have made $65 million last year across contracts and sponsorships, spotted the group trip for his 38th birthday, which was on January 7.

Well, well, well. Off I go to sleep of this envy.

A TikTok user broke down how he discovered that Nina Dobrev and Shaun White appeared to have paid almost three and a half million dollars for their recent trip to Antarctica .

Dobrev and White, who have been dating since April 2020, took a trip to Antarctica last month, seemingly in celebration of the new year and The Vampire Diaries star’s birthday. They were accompanied by a few famous faces including Zoey Deutch, Jared Leto, and Lewis Hamilton.

In a recent video on his TikTok, user @ivebentraveling -- Ben -- discussed the celebrity trip and what he did to zero in on the cost. He shared an article by Autoevolution , which claimed that White and Hamilton chartered a multimillion dollar boat in Antarctica.

Ben then examined the boat that the celebrities reportedly chartered: The Octopus Super Yacht. The superyacht was first made for the late Paul Allen, who is the cofounder of Microsoft, as noted by Autoevolution , and reportedly cost $226 million.

Speaking to The Independent , Ben said that he’s not surprised by how much White and Dobrve appeared to spend on this trip and explained why he shared the video in the first place.

“I think it’s important to shine a light on how much these trips actually cost so that folks don’t see an extravagant lifestyle and think: ‘I’ll never have that,’ but instead that they might see that and think ‘MOST people will never have that,’” he said. “There’s a subtle comfort in knowing something is SO out of reach for so many of us and that there’s an online community that shares that experience -- sort of an ‘if you know, you know’ type of energy.”

In his clip, the TikTok user acknowledged that the Octopus usually “moors over” King George Island, which is off the tip of Chile, and looked at flights from Los Angeles, where Dobrev and White are based, to Punta Arenas, Chile. The estimated price is approximately $3,500 round trip -- making it a roughly $7,000 flight for the couple.

The Vampire Diaries fans ‘tear up’ as cast of teen drama reunite

Ben then referenced an article published by travel site Swoop , which specified that it usually costs around $11,000 per person to spend 10 days travelling between Punta Arenas and Antarctica.

Looking at a group photo of Dobrev’s trip, which included 11 people, he multiplied that number by $11,000 and determined that the cost of the trip was $121,000.

The Octopus yacht, which can hold up to 12 guests, features 13 cabins and can have 42 crew members on the boat, as noted on luxury travel booking site YachtCharterFleet .

Some of the other amenities include a “large aft swimming pool surrounded by loungers and full cocktail bar, cinema suite, two helicopters with dedicated hangar, and personal submarine for 8 people, plus two crew” members.

The TikTok user proceeded to examine all prices and deduced that the rate for the private charter costs $2.2m per week. He claimed that someone messaged him about expenses costing an additional 25 per cent, so he added another $500,00 to the total. He added $6,600 for the 30 per cent tip that the boat crew would receive and $88 for the matching hats that Dobrev and 10 friends wore, with each hat costing around seven dollars.

He explained how he added all of the numbers up before revealing that the trip to Antarctica reportedly cost a total of $3,488,088.

As of 15 February, the video has more than 499,000 views, with viewers poking fun at the Love Hard star and the professional snowboarder for how much they appeared to spend.

“So do these people just Venmo each other $30k or what?!” one joke.

“Ok but Shawn white is an American treasure, let him spend his money,” another added.

A third said: “Stuck somewhere between ‘Damn I want to be rich’ and ‘eat the rich.’”

The Independent has contacted Ben for comment.

Lewis Hamilton (GBR 1 World Championship, Rd 7, Monaco Grand Prix, Monte Carlo, Monaco,

The Mercedes driver crashed during final practice at the sixth round of the 2023 season.

But at least he will be able to slink off in style.

He reportedly bought it in 2009 for $4 million (now £3.1m).

The newest model is estimated to cost £6.1 million by Motorboat & Yachting but, if you are interested, you should expect the cost to soar closer to £9m once you’ve added those crucial upgrades!

Hamilton’s Sunseeker is 91.9 feet - not actually the largest of its type.
