Yacht charter in kastela - marina kastela - split (region) - croatia.
The Kastela region with its mediterranean charm, picturesque landscapes and the unique composition of natural beauty was attracting people since the prehistoric times. From ancient greek sailors, roman perticians, Croatian kings, rulers, venetian royals to the present lovers of sun, sea and mysterious legacies from the past. Once an ancient Greek port, a stopover point for Roman veterans and a summer place for Croatian kings is today a tourist resort, carrying the same name.
Along it`s long sandy beach there are terraces and viewpoints, tennis and other sports grounds, surrounded by greenery of pine and tamaris trees. People live off vineyards with orchards and vegetable gardens. The Present area of Kastela and its inland in the vicinity of antique Salona was inhabited very early (the finds from the Roman and Old Croatian period). Seven old settlements are developed near the coast, around the castles built-in the l5th and l6th century by nobility and clergy: Kastel Stafilic, Kastel Novi, Kastel Stari, Kastel Luksic, Kastel Kambelovac, Kastel Gomilica and Kastel Sucurac.
The oldest fortress in Kastela is at the core around which an interesting architectonic unity evolved. It is a classic example of traditional seaside construction comprising a central square where public meetings and business transactions took place. There was an extensive market offering a variety of fish and other goods. Seeing the wealth of the fruits of the earth it is not surprising to locate it mirrored in the lush precious jewellery and native costumes, as well as in the unequalled beauty of their shrines.
Kastela is located half way between Split and Trogir. It is an excellent location for easy planning of seven day itineraries to the Kornati Islands or Dubrovnik in the South. It is very convenient location as Split Airport is 7km. The waters in the Adriatic Bays are superb for families wishing to Charter. The winds are steady and not as unpredictable as the Western Mediterranean.
A complete fleet of Bareboat Sailing Yachts to Charter. All of the latest models from Elan, Bavaria, Jeanneau, Beneteau, Dufour & Hanse. Yachts are available Bareboat or complete with Skipper if required. We can also suggest 2 Sunseeker Motor Yachts, the daunting Manhattan 84 and the sleek Sunseeker 80, as well as Smaller Crewed Yachts. Suggested sailing itinerary, wind & weather conditions, marina details, sample prices - kastela sailing itinerary - wind & weather - marina details.
We've pulled together a 6-day itinerary which gets around all the highlights of the cruising ground - from the natural phenomenon that is the blue cave in Bisevo, to the very different but equally impressive castle overlooking the medieval town of Hvar, plus the carnival atmosphere at Paklinski Otoci, and pretty islands and fishing villages galore.
Over the week, it covers 113 nM. That's an average of about 19nM a day, which, in a boat doing a fairly conservative 4-5 knots, will mean you'll be sailing for something like 4-6 hours a day - which means you should have plenty of time to nip into bays for a break or a swim, find somewhere extraordinary for lunch, or to explore the land around your boat in a little more depth.
Work your way out of the marina, whip out the sails, and then it's a fairly straightforward sail to the first port of call. It's pretty much due south, only 14 nautical miles, and it should be the first patch of land that you can spot on the horizon. Assuming it's a normal prevailing wind, you should be beating up into it for the duration of this short hop, which means you should be able to teach any crewmembers who are new to sailing how to tack, and to get them licked into shape. You should also take the time to do a man overboard drill, just in case.
Milna is a small fishing village on Brac island which was once a key strategic port for the Venetian empire - hence the grand buildings you'll find around the harbour which date back to the 16th century. It has a good range of bars and eateries.
As with yesterday, you should be beating pretty much close-hauled and tacking your way up the prevailing wind. Our route takes you past the island of Hvar (don't worry, we'll be back to see Hvar in a few days), before nudging round to the bay on the south of the island, nudging East and then weaving through the islands to get to one of our favourite places to stay in the whole of the Med.
If you don't get there early enough to grab a mooring buoy in the bay itself (it fills pretty quick in peak season), then you could berth at the nearby ACI Palmezana and walk across the island (it's a ten minute up-and-down walk, but it’s not quite the same, and you won't feel as much of a part of the action).
From Paklinski Otoci, you’ll need to head South-west towards the island of Vis (which should be just about visible on the horizon), likely having to reach across the prevailing wind. This is decision time - where you can head into Vis town, or onwards to the Bisevo.
If you opt for the cave, you're in for a treat! There's nowhere to moor nearby, so it's easiest to split the crew in two, and one half take to the dinghy to explore the cave whilst the other mans your own boat, before switching over. You need to buy a ticket from the main kiosk, and wait your turn in the restaurant as entry is only possible on the official Tour boats. Don't forget to take your camera to get some crazy looking shots.
Once everyone has had a look, you should bear North-east and work your way along the South coast of Vis island. The nearest marina is back in Vis town, which is such an historic port that it has been part of everything from the Roman, Ottomans, and even the British empire! If time gets the better of you, there are options to anchor in bays (most notably Rukovac bay) on the South of Vis.
Hvar is an old town which is notable for two things - one is that it used to be an Ibiza-type party capital (things have toned down since it was one of the coolest places to go in the mid 1990's, and many of the wildest bars have now been transformed into fancy restaurants), and second is the beautiful medieval castle on the hilltop above it, or, better, the incredible panoramic views you get over the surrounding islands from up there. It’s a bit of a slog up the hillside, but you will be glad you made the effort when you get there.
If you can't find a berth in Hvar, then you could moor up in ACI Palmezana (across the channel) and grab a water taxi from there to Hvar.
Maslinica was originally a holiday retreat for a super rich family - they were so rich that they built their own castle and church in their grounds?! Tourists flock here for the slow and tranquil pace of life, and the picturesque-ness of the unspoilt beaches surrounded by forests of the greenest pine trees.
From Hvar, it's a North-western traverse to reach across the prevailing winds. After rounding the top of Hvar island, it's possible to do it all on a single tack, so today is a good day to get stuff done - like reading, sun-bathing or preparing a fabulous five-course 'last night at sea' meal.
It'll only take you about 2-3 hours to sail from Maslinica to Kastela, which means you've got time to chill out a bit and bimble around the bays and beaches of the area before setting course for home. From here, you'll need to reach across the prevailing wind in a North-easterly direction, heading straight towards Split. A quick chicane or a couple of tacks and you’ll have Kastela on your bow and you’ll get a better sense of how Kastela is less a town and more a coastal sprawl covering 17 km and including seven castles (bonus marks if you can spot them all).
You'll need to get the boat refuelled at the fuel berth (just inside the marina, where there will likely be a bit of a queue on a Friday afternoon), and someone will be along to inspect the hull to make sure it's all in one piece. You’ll still be on the boat for one last night, and, if you’ve already been out in Kastela on the first night, it might be worth grabbing a 20 minute taxi to the pretty medieval island-town of Trogir, where you'll find a strip of bars along the riva, plus plenty of places to eat, and there's even a nightclub to dance the night away. The whole town should be choc-full of other sailors on the last night of their charter, so you could even share some of your favourite stories from the week.
And then it's time to check out, leaving your skippering responsibilities on the water as you return to your other life on land. Hopefully you will've had an absolute blast of a week with your yacht or catamaran, and you'll be returning home with more friends than you arrived with. It will take some time to come to terms with not being out at sea, but. when you’re ready, you can head to PlainSailing.com to start planning your next big adventure!
There’s a morning wind which blows from 9am to mid-day, then the wind drops for a few hours (local sailors say that the wind is having its lunch), before returning much stronger after 2pm for the afternoon and until sunset. Sometimes the best sailing of the day can be in the heat of the afternoon.
In summer, the wind tends to blow landward – as the land is heated by the sun, the air above it warms and rises, which, in turn, sucks colder wind in off the sea. There's also a loose correlation to the heat of the sun and the strength of the wind, but they tend to be between Force 3 to Force 6 during daylight hours, before disappearing to a light breeze (or less) after night falls.
Kastela Marina only became an idea in 2002, and the vast majority of the marina has been built within the last ten years – which means that the facilities are super-modern, and that they cater for every whim a sailor might have. It’s bigger than the nearby sailing hubs of Split and Trogir, and, being only 7km from Spilt airport, Kastela is fast becoming a big player in the nautical revolution in Croatia.
If you're staying in the area before or after your charter, we can recommend these places that are close to the marina: Hotel Ballet School or Hotel Stacija .

The Charter Fee is an additional, obligatory cost, which typically includes the end cleaning of the boat, home port fees, and linen & towels. The details of the charter fee differ depending on the boat, location and charter partner.
There are marina fees and fuel costs which vary depending on the type, duration and location of your sailing holiday. Marina fees need to be paid at each marina you choose to dock overnight - the amount varies but you may be able to find this information in advance by contacting the marinas directly. Fuel costs depend on whether you’re sailing a motorboat or a sailboat. You can estimate fuel costs by double-checking your chosen boat’s engine, and the expected distance you aim to sail.

Home Routes 7 Days Sailing Route: Kaštela - Kaštela
Day 1: Marina Kaštela - Bobovišće (island Brač)
After finishing formalities / getting your crew list and boat documents in our yacht charter base office- in Marina Kaštela, your yacht and skipper will be ready for departure at 5.00PM. We recommend ordering food in advance so everything is already on board cooled and stored before your arrival. If not, you can spend time during day if you arrived earlier to shop groceries in the small market in Marina or bigger supermarket 500m away. After checking in and getting know your home @sea for next 7 days better, we recommend sailing towards island Brač, small and picturesque anchorage, village Bobovišća. There you can spend evening on the buoy, have a dinner in the small village (or order free cab to farm restaurant on the top of the island). Don't expect to have a shopping here! Buy everything in Kaštela day before, even for the breakfast.
Day 2: Bobovišće - Island Brač/ Palmižana - Island Hvar
After breakfast in one of the restaurants or in the cockpit of spacious Jeanneau 57- decision is all yours, you can use morning time for swimming, diving, paddling, or other sun & sea summer holiday activities. After morning activities your skipper will sail to Island Hvar. ACI Marina Palmizana on the island Saint Clement is the best location for mooring nearby and visiting island and city of Hvar. There is possibility to use water taxi to island of Hvar city centre, and it is quickest solution. We recommend having lunch in one of the Saint Clement’s restaurant and dinner or a drink at the city centre of HVAR. Hvar is also great destination for night out- with most famous night clubs in the area.
Day 3: Island Hvar - Vis (island Vis)
We recommend morning coffee at beautiful Hvar waterfront, and heading to VIS one of the most quiet islands, with beautiful green pine woods. Skipper will take care about mooring the yacht in VIS, and you can use your day for cycling, swimming, taking scooter rental and discovering top of the island or enjoy one of the adventure tours discovering hidden army tunnels on the island. Try great meals @ POJODA restaurant for real traditional food experience!
Day 4: Island Vis - Vis to Komiža
After relaxing coffee and breakfast at the VIS waterfront we recommend sailing to KOMIŽA with stops at the Green Cave. While skipper is taking care about your yacht you can explore fascinating Green Cave by dinghy and take some beautiful photos. After this, we recommend swimming stop in Stiniva, one of the most beautiful bays in the Adriatic. In the afternoon you are arriving in Komiza where you can have lunch or dinner (or both).
Day 5: Island Šćedro - Lovišće bay
Morning coffee and breakfast in Komiža, and sailing to Lovišće bay ŠĆEDRO is our recommendation for Wednesday trip. Šćedro is small green island, without cars people or any kind of noise. There you can truly relax, and enjoy sunbathing, swimming and other summer activities while your skipper will make sure that boat is properly moored and secured.
Day 6: island Hvar - Stari grad
After breakfast on board, your skipper will sail towards island Hvar, Stari Grad, small and ancient city in the Hvar island. There you can enjoy water activities and have great lunch at domestic Konoba (Tavern), coffee or pancakes at one of the great restaurants.
Day 7. Island Brač - swim stop - marina Kaštela
Friday is day when you need to slowly return to the charter base in Marina Kaštela. After a morning coffee or breakfast your skipper will sail to Kaštela direction. Next swimming stop is Lučice bay / island Brač- where you can also have a lunch. After early lunch skipper will slowly sail back to Kaštela, since boat needs to be back in base Fridays afternoon. We recommend visiting Trogir or Split in the evening for a dinner. Ask our staff at base office or your skipper for organizing taxi transfer for you.
Day 8. Check out
We were pleased to have you as our guest! Please check out until 09.00h so we can prepare boat for the next customers! We hope that you fully enjoyed our tailor made skippered holidays.
