You can also make reservations on the Walt Disney World website or by calling the reservation center at Walt Disney World.

A word of warning though, the latter of the two options is not the most efficient and phone calls to Disney have been taking upwards of two hours just to talk to someone.

If you do see a reservation for the restaurant you should go ahead and book it even if it’s not at your intended dining time, because it’s always easier to modify an existing reservation versus make a new one.

What’s on the Menu at Yachtsman Steakhouse?

Yachtsman Steakhouse only serves dinner and everything on the menu is a la carte, meaning every item you order is a certain price.

Meals start out with a bread basket filled with savory pull-apart onion rolls and cherry multigrain sourdough rolls.

Bread Service

The bread is served with the restaurant’s signature roasted garlic and salted butter.

Yes, that means you can literally smear pieces of roasted garlic and slather butter all over these delightful breads.

When it comes to starters, I really enjoy the French Onion Soup , which is perfectly rich with plenty of onions, sourdough croutons, and topped with melted gruyère cheese. You definitely have to try the Beef Carpaccio as well.

Entrees and Dessert at the Yachtsman Steakhouse

Entrees obviously mean having a steak , and no matter which one you choose it comes with a sauce or butter, and your choice of side. I always order the 14-ounce roasted prime rib with horseradish cream.

Each entree comes with your choice of accompaniment, with either mashed potatoes, potato-leek gratin, or house-made French fries. I typically choose the gratin or the fries.

When dinner is done, do not leave the restaurant without trying one of the delicious desserts.

The signature dessert at the restaurant is the Yachtsman’s Chocolate Cake, which is made with dark chocolate mousse, chocolate cake, mixed berry curd, peanut butter crunch, and mousse, and serves two.

My Final Thoughts and Review of Yachtsman Steakhouse

Yachtsman Steakhouse is a lovely option for dining at Walt Disney World, whether you’re traveling alone or going out with friends, or on a date night.

Yachtsman Steakhouse Yacht and Beach Club Resort Walt DIsney World (8)

Here are a few tips to ensure your experience at Yachtsman Steakhouse is the best that it can be.

  • Security at the front of the Yacht Club can be very strict about who they let into the parking lot at the hotel.
  • If you don’t have a confirmed dining reservation at the Yachtsman Steakhouse , your better option for dining here will be to take a ride share or take the Disney Skyliner . This is best if you’re staying at one of the resorts that the transportation service goes to and from.
  • I f you’re at EPCOT and want a break from the park and think Yachtsman Steakhouse sounds like a nice place, you’ll want to walk to the back of the park to the International Gateway to get to the Yacht Club and to the restaurant.

Yachtsman Steakhouse Review

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Yachtsman Steakhouse is the real “T-Rex Cafe” in Walt Disney World. Except instead of being themed to dinosaurs, Yachtsman Steakhouse is a restaurant for dinosaurs. Well, at least the carnivorous ones. The place should have been named “Disney’s Awesome Salute to Carnivores Restaurant (of Excellence).” Unfortunately, Disney went with the more conventional “Yachtsman Steakhouse.”

Yachtsman Steakhouse is a signature restaurant at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Although we both love steak, it had taken us a while to visit Yachtsman Steakhouse because we always kept putting it off in favor of other favorites. We finally decided to visit Yachtsman Steakhouse when on the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan and trying to get the most bang for our buck . The restaurant is themed to a New England steakhouse, with masculine woods and some almost-kitschy coastal accents. While the restaurant is fairly well-lit, the rich woods and nice-looking rooms give it a look of understated elegance.

There are a few other items on the menu , but Yachtsman Steakhouse’s clear specialty is steak (hence the name…although wouldn’t its specialty be a touch more clear if they went with my proposed name?). As a signature restaurant participating in the Disney Dining Plan , Yachtsman Steakhouse is a 2-credit table service restaurant, and one of the restaurants at Walt Disney World that now requires a $10 per person deposit to secure reservations. It also accepts the Tables in Wonderland card for a 20% discount .

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

I’ve already touched upon the decor and its kitsch, but it’s probably worth discussing a bit more (and at the front of the review, to get all negatives out of the way first). Yachtsman Steakhouse looks nice with its masculine woods and understated dining room, and the highlight is when you first walk in and see a butcher room with meats aging and, when we were there, a butcher in there actually making his cuts!

However, there are also a few random accents that make the restaurant feel as if it’s stuck in the mid-1990s. I know plenty of New England restaurants have this same “look” to them, but I think Disney could convey the theme of the restaurant without the dated paintings and wallpaper. These are just little things, and it’s difficult to point to any one element of the design that made it feel dated, but I think all of these little things are more noticeable because the dining rooms are otherwise very understated.

That said, we ate there prior to the restaurant’s August and September 2012 refurbishment, and I have not yet heard what, if anything, changed with the look of the restaurant. Hopefully this decor was freshened up during the refurbishment, and if so, Yachtsman Steakhouse would be flawless to us. (Has anyone been there since September 14, 2012? How did it look?)

Our waiter for our meal at Yachtsman Steakhouse was Ricardo, and he was flat out awesome. He was incredibly fun, yet formal and knowledgeable of the menu. How he managed to strike this balance was beyond me, but he was basically the perfect Disney server–easily one of the best we’ve ever had at Walt Disney World or Disneyland. A bit of whimsy combined with knowledge and appropriate demeanor for a nicer restaurant.

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Before diving into the substance of our meal, I should preface this review with some basic information about my food preferences. On a scale of “Vegan to Velociraptor” in terms of carnivorousness, I’m approximately “Tyrannosaurus Rex,” which is a step beyond Velociraptor (see how happy I am in the photo above? I’m like a kid in a candy store when I’m at a steakhouse!). So I’m off the chart as far as my enjoyment of meat goes. I actually view vegetables as unnecessary filler that gets in the way of meat. Except potatoes, but I’ve been told countless times those are not vegetables, so I guess they get a pass. Obviously there’s some hyperbole here, but my point is that if you’re a vegan or vegetarian, it’s likely that you and I will not share similar views of Yachtsman Steakhouse.

In short, Yachtsman Steakhouse brings the A-game for steak-lovers. The meal started out with a bread basket, the highlight of which is the delicious onion bread. That onion bread plus the roasted garlic and butter is a deadly combination (for anyone you talk to later in the night). It’s also a highly, highly delicious combination. Normally we don’t like to overdo it on bread, but when Ricardo asked if we’d like another basket of bread, the answer was an unequivocal “YES!”

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

For appetizers, we both ordered the same fried crab appetizer, and it was incredible. Not only was the crab perfectly breaded and prepared, but the tomatoes and other garnishes were excellent!

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Now, on to the glorious entrees! Sarah had the Surf ‘n’ Turf (butter-poached Maine Lobster and Prime Strip Steak), and I had the 24 oz Porterhouse.

My Porterhouse was amazing. Flavorful, perfectly marbled, and with the perfect amount of seasoning. The roasted garlic butter added a great flavor to the steak, but it wasn’t doused in this butter so heavily that it masked the steak’s own natural flavor. Those who like incredibly lean cuts might not be as big of fans of this Porterhouse (or any Porterhouse, for that matter), but I like a bit of fat for flavor. If Yachtsman Steakhouse sold post cards, I would have bought one, because that steak was something to write home about!

At $46 it was pricey even by Disney standards, but it was 24 ounces and amazing. Given that, I don’t think it was out of line compared to other steak on property, especially for the size. It was certainly better than the $66 entree I had the day before at Narcoossee’s! I would not recommend visiting Yachtsman Steakhouse with an eye towards “dining on a dime,” but the Porterhouse was definitely large enough for two people to split if you want to go that route.

Usually I try to only post one or two photos of each entree we have in these reviews, but I’m having a tough time cutting anything here, so I’ll just present this glorious tribute to the Porterhouse:

I may not look all that happy in this photo, but really, I’m just in the zone. Eating a steak this excellent requires dedication and concentration. No time for posed photos.

Truly the best overall steak I’ve had on Disney property. The filet mignon at Napa Rose comes close , and it’s difficult to compare two radically different cuts of meat, but I’m going to give the edge to Yachtsman Steakhouse.

As for Sarah’s meal, Sarah reported that her lobster was better than the lobster she had at Narcoossee’s . If you recall, she had a whole Maine Lobster at Narcoossee’s, so this is assessment is impressive since usually the lobster on a combo lobster/filet dish is inferior to the lobster on a dedicated “whole Maine lobster” dish. She described the lobster as tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, and similarly really liked the steak. I tried some of her strip steak, and while it didn’t compare to my Porterhouse, it was very excellent. Tender and juicy, especially for a strip steak.

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

After dinner, Sarah ordered a cup of cappuccino. I’m not really sure which one, and I know almost nothing about coffee, so I can’t accurately assess it, but to my uninformed palate, it tasted delicious!

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

For dessert, I had the Peanut Butter and Pretzel Gianduja Cake, with salted caramel gelato and liquid ganache. This dessert was the bomb(dotcom) ! Even though it was really rich, I didn’t mind at all, because I love peanut butter and it wasn’t too large (who am I kidding, it could have been 10 times this size and I would’ve eaten it all!). The mix of flavors and textures in the cake were excellent, and I had never had caramel gelato before this–it was also quite good. At $11, it was fairly expensive for a relatively small dessert, but it tasted excellent. I probably wouldn’t have paid that much for it out of pocket, but as a Disney Dining Plan dessert, it’s a great pick.

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Sarah had the Lemon Pudding Cake, which she said was pretty good. She said it was incredibly moist, and that the blueberry shake that accompanied it was also excellent. I’m not quite sure about the war paint in the middle of her plate there, but I guess that’s how New England steakhouses present their desserts. Chowder-heads! 😉

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

All in all, Yachtsman Steakhouse was amazing. Our meal was, essentially, a tribute to America. That meal at Yachtsman Steakhouse cemented the restaurant as one of our top Walt Disney World restaurants. Our meal surpassed Bistro de Paris by a tad to claim the #2 overall slot for best restaurants at Walt Disney World ( behind only Victoria & Albert’s ). Although there are some dated elements in the decor, that was hardly enough to ding Yachtsman Steakhouse’s score.

The next time we eat at Yachtsman Steakhouse, we definitely won’t use the Disney Dining Plan, and will skip appetizers and desserts in favor of the many steakhouse-style sides that can be ordered to accompany the steaks. We saw a few of these pass our table, and they looked excellent. Our appetizers and desserts were good, but they were expensive (especially the desserts), and I’d rather focus on steakhouse strengths when at a steakhouse. It’ll be difficult, but I’ll probably also order the Beef Wellington next time instead of the Porterhouse. The Porterhouse was absolutely amazing, but I suspect just about any cut of meat will be amazing at Yachtsman. We highly recommend Yachtsman Steakhouse to anyone who enjoys a good steak.

Another request for an update now that it has re-opened again. Thanks!

' src=

Any plans to do an updated review here soon? It says you haven’t been here since 2012 yet you said it was amazing and gave it a 10/10. Hoping to see some updated thoughts on this steakhouse as well as Le Cellier as we’re trying to decided between the two for our upcoming June 2020 trip. Thanks!

' src=

I agree!! The menu has had soooo many changes since then. Would love an updated review.

' src=

Just eaten here for the third time and was a total disaster. Our waiter knew little about the menu or drinks then forgot 2 of the drinks we ordered one was Diet Coke so not too hard to remember The steaks arrived my wife said medium fillet was cold on the outside and centre one sons steak was fine he asked for fries not mash and no sauce which arrived ok My other son and I shared a porterhouse which was excellent then the problems started alll the side dishes wee cold and looked as if they were preprepared and left on one side . We complained to which we were told they would be replaced immediately Then mash and sauce arrived for our sons steak which was ordered without and arrived perfectly After we had nearly finished the porterhouse my wife’s steak arrived it was the original steak reheated as were all the side dishes which were then TrueType inedible. The manager apologised on many occasions and sent extra desserts Monod which I could eat as I am diabetic which I told the waiter originally The y did reduce the credits taken from the dining plan plan but I would have sooner had a good meal and used all the credits WE will not be revisiting soon

' src=

Hi- just curious why you wouldn’t use the Dining plan for this restaurant? This is our first time at DW, so i’m confused. Thank you

' src=

I assume he means because the dining plan specifies that you get appetizer, entree, and dessert as opposed to steak with added sides of your choice. With the dining plan, you have less control over how you spend your money at each meal.

' src=

It is by far my favorite restaurant at DW & I’ve eaten at most. Their bone marrow w/the ribeye is out of this world! I think they lace it w/crack bc I dream of this bone marrow!

' src=

We went here in 2015, this review is spot on with our experience. We are going back in 2017 and agree that we aren’t doing the dining plan. We also thought the steakhouse sides looked really good. We plan to share the porterhouse and get a few different sides to share. This is one of our must have ADRs for this next trip.

' src=

Don’t worry about the decor…it’s elegant and appropriate as you would expect. The food is exceptional! What a treat! Don’t overlook what is certainly one of Disney’s best………and one of the most outstandiing steakhouses ANYWHERE! Bravo!

' src=

I’ll be there for dinner on January 06, 2015. Thanks for the amazing review!

' src=

My hubby and I have an ADR here for the beginning of October. We are from New England so I’ve been hesitant to keep the reservation. My indecisive nature makes me want to try something new and exciting yet knows we’d love the Yachtsman. Any current thoughts on a signature restaurant for two? I’m dying to go to V&A but it’s just not in the budget this trip. Thanks!! Love your blog!

California Grill would be very nice!

Yachtsman Steakhouse Full Review

By Author Ziggy Oskwarek

Posted on Last updated: July 24, 2019

Yachtsman Steakhouse offers a variety of amazing food including some great seafood dishes, but they really specialize in…you guessed it… Red Meat , big juicy slabs of it!  In fact many put it in the conversation for best steak on property .  Being a Signature Restaurant means you won’t find a cheap meal here, but I’ve always found the quality to equal the price.  Also a certain “business casual” dress code is required so I wouldn’t come in a tank top and flip-flops. 😉

Yachtsman’s often gets a bit overlooked because of having to travel to the Yacht Club to eat there and is also viewed as being a bit “stuffy.”  But is that the case?  How does it compare with other Steak heavyweights such as Le Cellier, Shula’s and Jiko?

It’s been a few years so I wanted to do a Yachtsman Steakhouse Full Review.  I’m hoping that the good experiences we’ve had there in the past continue over this time….let’s find out!

Atmosphere:

To get to Yachtsman you’ll need to find your way to the Yacht Club Resort and make your way out to the back by the pool.  You can either take transportation to Epcot, Hollywood Studios or one of the other Epcot Resorts like the Boardwalk Resort, Beach Club or Swan and Dolphin.  To make it easy I would recommend doing either Epcot or Hollywood Studios the same day and then just either walk over to the Yacht Club Resort or take a Boat from the park.

If your coming from along the waterside of the resort then eventually you will run into the Back Entrance of the Yacht Club here:

The first thing you see when you walk in is the Meat Dry Aging Room where the butchers cut and prepare the steaks:

All the meat at the Yachtsman Steakhouse is cut in-house , you you know you’re getting a fresh quality steak, not something that’s been prepackaged.

Here’s the butcher going to work:

Look at that concentration, even with the camera in his face he didn’t look up once! 😉  Here’s a shot of the meat once he’s done cutting it:

Those are some good-looking steaks!!

If you look to the left into the Bar , you’ll start to get more of a feel for the decor.  Pine wood beams line the high ceiling, along with beautiful chandeliers:

A cool feature that’s a part of many upscale Disney restaurants is the Open-Kitchen:

Turn right and you’ll find the entrance to the Main Dining Hall:

Some people complain about the decor, they even find it stuffy or snobbish.  Personally I love the natural wood and soft tones you find throughout.  It’s supposed to be reminiscent of a sea-faring New England town, and that’s exactly what it delivers.  You’re not going to be blown away by the decor, like in a place like Moritmoto’s, but that’s ok because that’s not the focal point here, it’s the food.

The Main Dining Room is a large and open space.  Again more rich colors from the wood:

The lighting in here is excellent, especially when the sun is still out due to the large windows overlooking the Pool at Stormalong Bay.  That’s refreshing as at some steakhouses you practically have to bring a flashlight with you in order to see:

This room is gorgeous and has a great view of outside:

One of the tables in the main dining room:

This is the back dining room and probably the most intimate room at Yachtsman.  If you are looking for more quiet and privacy ask for here:

Or you can ask for one of the booths which are lovely:

Notice the gorgeous, clean light fixtures on the beams:

More typical sea-faring gear lines the walls like this Ship’s Wheel:

Some lovely paintings line the wall….of yachts of course:

Ok, we’re done looking around and we’re ready for the food!

As I already mentioned we came here for Steak, and lots of it, as that’s obviously the specialty of the house.  All the beef is high-quality and grain-fed which is cut and aged in-house and prepared on an oak-fired grill in the open kitchen.  That results in some of the tastiest steak anywhere in Walt Disney World.  If your wallet is feeling full and you want a dining experience you’ll never forget, then go for the 32 oz Porterhouse for Two or the 100% Japanese Wagyu Beef Strip Loin , they cost $119 and $125 respectively, but they will change your life!

Besides steak Yachtsman offers some other delicious options including F resh Seafood like Lobster, Salmon and Shrimp.   Expect to find typical Steakhouse appetizers and sides like Soups and Salads, Mushrooms, Creamed Spinach and Truffle Mac and Cheese.

Like many Disney restaurants, the menu tends to have some staples you can find year-round and then some options that are seasonal, so if you don’t find exactly the same things we had during our visit you can probably find something similar or even better when you go!

Look at these beauties…freshly cut and dry-aged.  It’s going to be so hard to choose….

That 21 Day Dry-aged Kansas City Strip looks amazing:

To start off our meal the right way we ordered a bottle of Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 , ok really 2 bottles but who’s counting?  The wine itself was excellent, balanced with a great structure and perfect for…steak!

They first brought us out our complimentary Bread Basket , this thing was amazing!

The first and yummiest bread was the Onion Brioche-style rolls that were out of this world!  They were pull-apart and had a light, airy texture inside that was incredible!  Look at that inside which I had slathered with butter:

Besides that there were also more traditional Sourdough Rolls that were also delicious:

The Butter Plate here was something special because not only did it have fresh butter with Coarse Sea Salt on top, but each plate also had a humongous Roasted Garlic Clove as well!  It was soooo good and my wife was soooo mad at me for eating it! 😉

Next we had a Caesar Salad ($12) with Romaine Lettuce, Parmigiano Reggiano, Coppa Secca and Focaccia Crouton.  Really is there any other type of salad to be had??

I’m a self-proclaimed expert on Caesar Salads and have eaten my share, but this thing was no joke!  It was a very big portion, even enough to share if you’re into that sort of thing.  The lettuce was really fresh and crisp and the Parmigiano was sliced super thin so you could really taste the sharpness of the flavors.  The dressing is what usually makes the Caesar salad and this one was awesome!!  It’s made in house and wasn’t goopy or sweet.

Next was the French Onion Soup ($12) which had a Sourdough Crouton and was covered in Gruyere Cheese:

This is perfection right here…

Stringy cheese makes me  :))))))))

Since it was nearly impossible to stand within 10 feet of us now after 2 courses a piece with either garlic or onion in them we decided to change it up. We went with the Lobster Bisque ($13) which is made with fresh Maine Lobster, Creme Fraiche, fine herbs and lemon:

We also tried the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail ($19) which had a bit of Old Bay sprinkled on and came with lemon and a homemade cocktail sauce:

Get ready to get your carnivore on, because we’ve made our choices of Entrees and they are sent off to the kitchen to be cooked over that Oak-fired Grill:

First up was the 12oz New York Strip Steak ($49) with a Peppercorn Brandy Sauce and Potato Gratin:

You can see how nice that inside is:

Next was the 10oz Black Angus Filet Mignon ($54) with Mashed Potatoes and a Cabernet Wine Sauce:

Lastly was they one I was really anticipating, the 16oz Prime Rib Eye Steak ($54) covered in Blue Cheese Butter and served with a Brioche and Bone Marrow :

This thing is what dreams are made of!  The very first bite my wife said it’s the best steak she’s ever had:

Being rib-eye this thing was bursting with flavor, then covered in blue cheese butter it made everything so rich and juicy and brought it to even another level of amazingness.  It was a giant piece of meat that we ended up splitting between the two of us:

It was just the right tenderness and melted right in your mouth, especially in the middle.  Just overall awesome and one of the best steaks I’ve ever had!

It was accompanied with Bone Marrow and a Brioche .  Now maybe the idea of sucking marrow from a cow’s bone doesn’t exactly get your appetite going, but once you try it, it will!  The Italian name is Osso Buco and it’s a traditional dish from Milan and my wife goes absolutely crazy for it.  Being the expert she said it compared well to others she’s had before and was very succulent inside.

Lastly we got an order of Truffle Macaroni and Cheese ($12) , because obviously till that point we were really having a light meal!  It was made from Orecchiette Pasta (which means “little ears”), Reypenaer cheese and of course truffles:

There were also a bit of crisped stringy onions on top which added a nice texture.  The pasta was creamy and cheesy but you really have to like truffles to like this mac and cheese, the flavor is very strong.  My brother-in-law was crazy about it, he thought it was really unreal.  I personally thought the taste was a bit too strong, so it depends on tastes.

Of course even though at this point I was so stuffed that I needed to be rolled out of the restaurant, I wouldn’t leave you without at least a taste of Dessert.  I was the only one brave enough to confront it!  I got the Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake ($10) with Lemon Curd and Blueberry Crumble:

Lastly, one thing I haven’t touched on was the service.  The service here was some of the best I’ve ever had at any restaurant ANYWHERE .  We had 2 waiters assigned to our table all night as one was in training and the other was observing but helping him.  At first I thought we were in trouble because of having a waiter-in-training, but he blew us away!  He knew everything, literally everything about the menu and every recommendation he made to us turned out to be true.  I wish I remembered his name because I would highly recommend him to you.  This is what signature dining service should be like!

Overall we had a wonderful experience at the Yachtsman Steakhouse, it was even better than the last time we came.  The atmosphere won’t blow you away, but it’s warm, clean, it isn’t loud and is a nice place if you are looking for a quiet romantic meal.  The food was of excellent quality, the appetizers like Caesar Salad, French Onion Soup and the Lobster Bisque were all outstanding .  The Steaks themselves were unbelievable and do live up to the reputation as being one of the best 2 or 3 steakhouses on property.  Where exactly?  I’ll have to think about it and make a list soon, but Yachtsman is right up there.

I found the prices to be expensive, but in-line with other Disney Signature Restaurants.  If you are a carnivore like me then you will appreciate it and Yachtsman has to be on your list of must-try restaurants in Walt Disney World.  It’s a must do for sure if you are staying at one of the Epcot Resorts as it’s within walking distance from them, and it makes a great date-night location without the kids or for a special occasion.  Try it, you won’t be disappointed!

Yachtsman Steakhouse is a Dinner only restaurant and is open from roughly 5:00pm – 9:30pm Daily .  The Disney Dining Plan is also accepted, it is a 2 Disney Dining Credit Signature Restaurant.   Reservations can be made via the Disney World website or by calling (407) WDW-DINE .

Ziggy Knows Disney close

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.

Thursday 10th of October 2019

I just had that same Caesar's Salad and a prime rib end-cut that was bigger than my head just two weeks ago. I've been going there since opening in 1990 and I couldn't have written a more detailed and accurate assessment of the Yachtsmen than you did. Love that place.

Yachtsman Steakhouse Review

Yachtsman Steakhouse is a table-service restaurant in Walt Disney World’s Yacht Club Resort. Termed as a signature restaurant, Yachtsman Steakhouse would require two credits on the Disney Dining Plan (when applicable) and has higher prices than the usual sit down spot at WDW although they do offer Annual Pass and DVC discounts. The restaurant specializes in, you guessed it, steaks and is one of the few true steakhouses on property. In this post, we’ll review the restaurant’s atmosphere, food and value.

Yachtsman Steakhouse sign

While I’ve had the pleasure to eat at many and most of Walt Disney World’s restaurants, Yachtsman Steakhouse seemingly was the one that I kept missing one way or another. There was always another restaurant to try or money to save and then the restaurant had a long closure due to COVID before opening late this summer. With the opportunity to finally catch the white whale, this yachtsman took advantage. I’m so sorry, that will be my last nautical/yachting/Moby-Dick joke of this post.

As much as I love red meat and consider myself a good carnivore, I’m not as drawn to steakhouses as some other restaurants. I don’t think they offer as much room for imagination in their offerings and I usually like seafood just as much as most steak. A steakhouse really has to wow me for me to feel like it’s worth the price, especially relative to other fancy restaurants. Thankfully, Yachtsman Steakhouse went above and beyond my expectations.

Yachtsman Steakhouse meat room

The restaurant makes no bones about who they’re appealing to. Immediately upon entry, guests are met by the dry-aging room also known as (by me) the meat room! The room is tucked away to the left of the kitchen and seating area. It’s an impressive room filled with incredible cuts of meat.

Yachtsman Steakhouse dining room

Inside of the actual restaurant, the restaurant is themed similarly to the rest of the Yacht Club. There’s some New England style architecture and heavy nautical theming. Warm wood tones abound along with a deep turquoise giving Yachtsman Steakhouse a masculine yet inviting feel.

Yachtsman Steakhouse light

There are several dining rooms throughout the restaurant, all of them are pretty light and airy. I wouldn’t say the restaurant is overly decorated or trying hard for a modern aesthetic, instead Yachtsman Steakhouse knows what it is and does that well. My favorite feature of the restaurant are the beautiful windows and ceiling on the far right of the dining room. Many of the windows in that area arch out giving the look of a captain’s quarters. I like these small, understated touches that make the dining room somewhat unique.

Yachtsman Steakhouse windows mirror

Let’s move on the menu , where the atmosphere of the restaurant takes its cues. There’s a few different offerings on the menu but everything revolves around the steak. Writing this while hungry was an absolute mistake.

Yachtsman Steakhouse rolls

Being a signature restaurant, Yachtsman Steakhouse offers a great bread service. The onion pull apart roll is perfectly flaky and delicious. It’s served warm and matches wonderfully with the roasted garlic or Himalayan salt butter that comes with the bread service.

Yachtsman Steakhouse garlic

There’s also multigrain cherry rolls, and I liked these almost as much even if they are supposedly healthy! The cherry gave them a nice pop of flavor.

Yachtsman Steakhouse ribeye

Moving on to the entrees, I ordered the 16-oz Rib-Eye Steak which comes with Blue Cheese-Shallot Butter and is served with one accompaniment selection. The Rib-Eye was cooked a perfect medium rare and was exceptionally tender. The flavor of the meat alone was delicious and the Blue Cheese-Shallot Butter added to the rich and creaminess. This was huge and extremely rich. I had next to no chance of finishing this in one sitting but it was exceptional!

Yachtsman Steakhouse filet mignon

We also tried the 8-oz Filet Mignon which is served with Cognac-Truffle Butter and served with one accompaniment selection. This wasn’t as gigantic as the Rib-Eye but it was just as delicious, if not more so. The meat was even more tender, to the point where I’m not sure that you needed a steak knife to cut it. I preferred the Truffle Butter to the Blue Cheese Butter, although it was even more rich. Everything about this dish melted in your mouth.

Yachtsman Steakhouse mashed potatoes

Yachtsman Steakhouse was all an exercise in how much someone could eat and that included the sides. The mashed potatoes were delicious and, I say this in praise, you could really taste the butter in them. They were very smooth and paired well with the meat.

Yachtsman Steakhouse potato gratin

While I liked the mashed potatoes, the potato-leek gratin blew it out of the water. What’s better than buttery potatoes? Buttery potatoes with cheese on top of them. Yes, it was another dish in the line of heavy foods but I would be happy to eat a bowl of this anytime.

Each of the steaks came with one accompaniment and the option we didn’t have was the french fries. We have had those at the next door Crew’s Cup Lounge and they are outstanding, as well.

Yachtsman Steakhouse mushrooms

There were several sides that you can add to your meal and we decided to go with the Roasted Seasonal Mushrooms. While I didn’t think the mushrooms quite lived up to everything else on the menu, they were fresh and delicious. They paired well with each of the steaks and I’d be interested in trying any of the other sides there.

Yachtsman Steakhouse cake

In the name of research, dessert seemed like a necessity 😉 We ordered the Yachtsman’s Chocolate Cake and it was a good decision. Here’s what it looks like when it is cut open!

Yachstman Steakhouse opened cake

The layers are made up of Dark Chocolate Mousse, Chocolate Decadence Cake, Mixed Berry Curd, Peanut Butter Crunch and Mousse. Needless to say, this was very rich, delicious, and too much food. The menu does say it serves two and that is certainly accurate! The Mixed Berry Curd offset some of the richness of the chocolate. While maybe a little much for me, this was one of the most impressive desserts I’ve had anywhere.

I haven’t mentioned the prices here because they’re all very high and I thought I’d get the praise out of the way. All of the steaks are between the $50-$60 range with the sides under $15 and the cake at $19. While it’s a lot, I didn’t think this was out of line with real world steakhouses. The quality of the food certainly matches up to that. I do think there are more creative restaurants at Disney World where you can spend about the same amount but whether you should choose them over Yachtsman Steakhouse depends on how much you like steak.

Yachtsman Steakhouse seating

Overall, Yachtsman Steakhouse is one of the best restaurants in Walt Disney World. While it may not be inventive or modern in its design, it’s a restaurant that has exceptional food and fits in well within the theme constraints. The only negative is the steep price although I’d consider it fair. For meat eaters, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Overall Rating – 9.5/10

Savor premium steaks, fresh seafood and more at this New England-style steakhouse. Within the airy dining room’s knotty-pine beams and nautical touches, mouthwatering cuisine awaits!
High-quality, grain-fed beef is aged in-house and prepared on an oak-fired grill in the open kitchen. Where is the Yachtsman Steakhouse located?

Yachtsman Steakhouse, which features high-grade steaks, fresh seafood, free-range chicken and more, is located at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort at Walt Disney World .

Disney’s Yacht Club is located inside the EPCOT area, near Disney’s Boardwalk and Disney’s Beach Club. In case you aren’t familiar, Disney describes this resort as:

Delight in the formal grace of a grand New England-style yacht club at this lakeside hotel. Relax in the inviting elegance of a plush lobby replete with nautical touches, explore the whimsical Stormalong Bay and rent a variety of watercraft from Bayside Marina. Sharing many amenities with its pastel-toned sister, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is walking distance to Epcot and a convenient boat ride to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

How to get to the Yachtsman Steakhouse

If you are staying on property, there are a few different transportation options you can take in order to get to Yachtsman Steakhouse.

If you are staying at any of the EPCOT resorts — including Disney’s Yacht Club, Disney’s Beach Club , Disney’s Boardwalk , Walt Disney World Swan Hotel, or Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel — you can either walk to Disney’s Yacht Club by following the path around the lake, or you can opt to take the friendship boat. This also goes for if you are visiting the EPCOT theme park for the day, you can either walk over to Disney’s Yacht Club or take the friendship boat. Be sure to use the park exit near World Showcase and not the main entrance.

If you are staying at any of the other Walt Disney World hotels on property, you can either take a complimentary bus to one of the theme parks (or to Disney Springs) and catch a bus to Disney’s Yacht Club from there.

If you are visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the day and want to get to Yachtsman Steakhouse from the theme park, you can take the friendship boats directly to Disney’s Yacht Club by utilizing the launch outside of the park entrance.

If you are visiting one of the other theme parks, either Magic Kingdom or Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you can take a bus directly to Disney’s Yacht Club.

And lastly, if you opted, you could also use the Lyft app to call for a car to take you directly there, however, this is not complimentary, and depending on where you are located on the Disney World property, it can cost you upwards of a few dollars. For more information on using Lyft at Disney World, visit our website here.

Theming of the Yachtsman Steakhouse

Yachtsman Steakhouse is a fine dining restaurant, featuring signature American cuisine, including steak and seafood. The atmosphere is elegant with “knotty-pine beams” and “nautical touches” in the dining room.

How is the Yachtsman Steakhouse’s dining room decorated?

The dining room invites Guests in with its simple and rustic yet elegant atmosphere. Yachtsman Steakhouse is not decorated “over the top” and instead has simple lanterns that light up the room, wooden chairs that aim for that rustic feel, and beautiful wall decor, inviting couples for a perfect date night.

However, just because this is a fine dining restaurant does not mean children are not welcome. In fact, the Yachtsman Steakhouse has an entire kids menu — making this restaurant great for families, couples, and kids of all ages.

Yachtsman Steakhouse Review

If you’re looking for a more elegant and refined dinner away from the Disney World parks, you may think about eating at Yachtsman Steakhouse.  The steakhouse is located at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, which also adjoins Disney’s Beach Club Resort.  Here in our Yachtsman Steakhouse review, we’ll tell you our thoughts on dining at this Disney World signature restaurant, covering the food and atmosphere of the restaurant.

Since Yachtsman Steakhouse is a signature location at Disney World, it does cost a bit more than your average table service meal.  That’s true whether you are paying with cash or using the Disney Dining Plan.  You’ll have to cough up two table service credits to eat here.

As with all things dining plan and Disney World, what you’re eating will determine if using the dining plan is a good value or not.  As you can see on the Yachtsman Steakhouse menu , there is a wide range of cost associated with the various entrees.  Generally, you are going to find the assortment of steaks to have the best value on the dining plan.  If you order something like chicken, then the dining plan is a poor value.  If you’re maximizing what you’re having to eat and getting steak, dessert, and a drink, then the value is much better and probably worthwhile.  Just do your own math!

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

As for the adult desserts, Carla went with a steakhouse classic (in my opinion) by ordering the Crème Brûlée.  The presentation was a bit different than the normal Crème Brûlée, as you can see.  However, the flavors were excellent.  If you’re a fan of Crème Brûlée, you can order this dessert with confidence.

Yachtsman Steakhouse is the Steakhouse You’ve Been Looking for at Disney World

When it comes to a signature dining location at Disney World, Yachtsman Steakhouse is what we expect.  Great food is what I consider to be table stakes.  A fun atmosphere and excellent service for both the adults and kids make it a higher-end experience.

Yachtsman Steakhouse delivered on all of these aspects of dining.  I contrast it with our experience eating at Le Cellier, where the service was fine, but not nearly as good as what we experienced here.

When I think of steak and Disney World, Yachtsman is our go-to place for now.  There are still a couple more steakhouses we have not eaten at or at least not eaten at recently.  We’ll have to compare them somewhere down the line.  For now, we can’t recommend eating at Yachtsman enough.  We think you’ll be pleased.

Wrapping Up Our Yachtsman Steakhouse Review

With that, we’ll wrap up our Yachtsman Steakhouse review.  Have you eaten at Yachtsman before?  We’d love to hear what you think of it.  If so, drop down and tell us your thoughts in the comments!  Do you have a different place you prefer to eat steak at when at Disney World?  Tell us where!

If you are looking for more Disney World restaurant reviews , this link will get you to our catalog of them.  We’re quickly building quite a library of them.  We hope you find the reviews helpful.

The burnt ends (the best part) were dry and tough – another cue to the amount of time that elapsed between the window and her table. For this kind of money, you expect a perfect cut of meat. This is the dish that had her the most disappointed as she’s had it in the past knew how fantastic it used to be. Both she and Ivonne only had two bites each let it complete its decomposition.

Chrissy also got the Potato-Leek Gratin as her side, and while the flavor was good, you could tell from the matte appearance and lack of sheen on the crust that it had been sitting out. It was very frustrating and she can only assume it’s because they’re short-staffed? Ugh.

Final Thoughts

There were a few things Chrissy found to be pretty good, but there are literally dozens of other options at Walt Disney World that taste far superior and cost way less. She will visit again in a few months to see if the new staff has gotten into a better groove. This feels more like a Disney staffing failure more than anything else and that makes it more disappointing.

We always try to eat at The Yachtsman Steak House for our special occasion’s. We are eating there tomorrow to celebrate our April birthdays. We have never been disappointed the New York Strip is there specialty and our go to along with the Caesar Salad and French Onion Soup!!! Always amazing and always excellent service. They must of had a rough re-opening but it’s hands down our favorite Steak House along with Morton’s and Ruth’s Chris. I have heard that Charlie’s is very good also but this is our go too.

The Yachtsman once again blew me away last week with three great trips to my favorite restaurant. This place will never be beaten in my eyes. The steak, wine, service, appetizers, onion soup, truffle mac, etc, are always incredible. Now that I won’t be visiting the parks, the meals at the Yachtsman will only improve with the likes of Opus One, Tignanello, Margaux, Caymus, etc.

This was disappointing to read. I ate here in February 2020 and loved every second of it…an experience I’ll never forget.

So, nothing’s changed at Yachtsman Steakhouse! We were there Apr. 2019, Sat. evening before Easter (end of Spring Break)

Truly THEE WORST steak meal I’ve ever had.  We knew we were in trouble when husband asked server if the New York steak was “prime” (a quality GRADE of meat, not a CUT) and she said, “No, the prime rib is over here.” Uh-oh. Server had no business being in a high-end restaurant; she was awful & nothing but attitude.

We didn’t order appetizers, but wanted to share some sides instead.  One side never showed up; the other didn’t come until meal was halfway over, and it was cold & over-salted. (we also had to ask *twice* to have the never-served side removed from bill)  His steak was meh, and my prime rib was so full of fat and unchewable cartilage, I barely got 6 bites total. Discount store quality; 5-star prices Both were cold enuf the “rare” was turning purple & oxidizing, yuck. The manager did make his way to our table, seeing I was struggling, and DID comp my meal, which was the least they could’ve done since it was inedible.  Hands down the worst meal I’ve ever had at a fine dining establishment! I wouldn’t return even if someone else is paying. Sad to hear it’s still same ol’, same ol’

I hope this place steps it up but it seems, from the reviews, it is much the same as before it closed. So many better options just a few minutes away, Flying Fish (when it opens) and Shula’s come to mind.

Review: Yachtsman Steakhouse

By AJ 23 Comments

Awesomeness! It’s been a long time since we’ve reviewed Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney World’s Yacht Club Resort, which is a real shame considering how much I like this restaurant! (Meat? Good! Butter? Good! Habanero-Infused Flourless Chocolate Cake? Good! )

But on this visit, I broke away from my standards and tried some new items! Can’t wait to share them with you! Let’s get started…

Yachtsman Steakhouse has very clean, traditional lines when it comes to decor.

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

One of the Yachtsman Steakhouse Dining Areas

Guests enter into a foyer where they’ll encounter a large picture window looking into the steak trimming room, then they’ll pass by the open kitchen and into the dining room, which is furnished in light woods and tasteful artwork from top to bottom. Craftsman style chandeliers hang over the white-clothed tables.

Chandelier in the Two-Story Dining Room

My favorite room in the dining area is a two-story, circular room with two-top tables that look out onto the Yacht and Beach Club Resort’s own water playland — Stormalong Bay.

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

My favorite Dining Room

Basically, the setting here is relatively bland, but upscale. Consider it a blank canvas on which to create your carnivorous fantasy dinner 😉

While the menu here changes seasonally, you can always find some great steaks and classic side dishes to try. I love the appetizer menu, which tends to feature some really interesting options from time to time!

We began the evening with Yachtsman’s complimentary bread basket, which includes yummy bread rolls as well as this onion pull-apart bread, which is extremely delicious. Breads come with roasted garlic for spreading as well as salted butter.

Yachtsman still offers its cheese plate, but our table ordered this new charcuterie board this time! You get cheese on this one, too, but also smoked duck sausage, venison terrine, beef tartare, and other accoutrements! This is a varied and interesting board, and if you’re a fan of game or interesting meats, it’s a must-try.

The escargot received rave reviews (the person who ordered this is a big escargot fan, so I’ll take her word for it)!

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

And I ordered the root vegetable side dish (which is no longer on the menu) as my appetizer. It was quite good, though I could have done without so many turnips/parsnips (not sure which one it was 🙂 ).

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Root Vegetables Side Dish

For our entrees, we ordered some extremely different items on the menu! Personally, I couldn’t get past the term “flagship cheddar fondue” and thus had to order the Braised Beef Ravioli, which came with the fondue as a sauce.

The ravioli was delicious — a very fun dish when you’re craving both meat and pasta or aren’t in the mood for a steak. The cheddar fondue had a strong, hearty cheese flavor, but it wasn’t overpowering for the ravioli. They complemented each other nicely.

Would I order this again? Yes. But Yachtsman really is all about the steaks, so if you’re a steak fan (like I am), it’s hard to branch out!

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Ravioli Cross-Section

A tablemate ordered the rib eye (which is what I usually get), which came with sweet potato beignets and red wine butter! This steak is rarely a disappointment — it’s tender, flavorful (thanks to that rib eye marbling), and has delicious (and not overpowering) seasoning. My only complaint is that I can’t ever finish it! Also, I usually order it with garlic butter instead of the red wine butter.

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Rib Eye with Sweet Potato Beignets

I thought the addition of sweet potato beignets was so interesting, and then I started to see savory beignets on quite a few menus! I guess it’s all the rage…

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Beignets Cross-Section

The third entree at our table was a very interesting one — Deconstructed Beef Wellington. The components of Beef Wellington are a pate and duxelles with filet inside a puff pastry, usually served with veggies. On this board, everything was separate, with the pate spread on the board in the center, the filet to one side, and the vegetables (with mushrooms/duxelles) also separated.

While this dish didn’t get low marks for taste (my table mate thoroughly enjoyed the meal), I wasn’t very impressed with the presentation. I don’t like the look of the pate spread in the middle of the board. I also am not a fan of “foams” on my drinks and dishes, so seeing the foam on top of the filet just looked a bit like soap bubbles to me…

The concept of this dish was a good and interesting one, but the presentation just made it less desirable for me.

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Deconstructed Beef Wellington - 8 oz Filet - Trio of Wild Mushroom Duxelles - Puff Pastry - Parsnips - Potatoes - Carrots - Red Wine Sauce

Of course, we couldn’t stop at just entrees! Since this is a steakhouse, there are plenty of high-quality side dishes to order as well. Of course, your entree will usually come with a side dish already included on the menu (e.g. the sweet potato beignets), but how can you resist truffle mac and cheese and creamed spinach? Other options: sauteed mushroom caps, creamed corn, and caramelized onion along with some seasonal offerings.

The truffle mac and cheese is one of my favorite versions of this dish on Disney World property. The Reypenaer has a strong, rich taste, and the truffle oil is very noticeable (note — if you don’t like truffle flavor, you might want to skip this). I also love the Orecchiette pasta, which act like little scoops to hold all of that cheesy goodness!

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Mac and Cheese Side Dish

The creamed spinach is very rich here, and I’m not sure it still qualifies as a vegetable with all of that cream and butter! (That’s a good thing when you’re at a steakhouse…)

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Creamed Spinach

During our meal, the acting chef in the kitchen kindly brought over a dish he’d been working on to be a new side dish — Brussels sprouts! Now, I know what you’re thinking — you don’t like Brussels Sprouts, do you. Well these are different! Complemented with bacon and a tangy, buttery carrot sauce, these were delicious!

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

New Brussels Sprouts Dish with Bacon and Carrot Sauce

Now, on to dessert! The desserts here at Yachtsman change pretty consistently, and they’ve already changed since I was there in October. However, two of the items we ordered are still available: the Habanero-infused flourless chocolate cake and the signature banana napoleon.

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Dessert Menu

When I saw the words “habanero” and “flourless chocolate cake” together, I knew I was in the right place. After trying the flourless chocolate cake at Flying Fish a couple of years ago, I promised myself that I would order flourless chocolate cake more often — and this was NOT a disappointment!

The cake was bitter-sweet upon tasting, followed by a significant kick of habanero flavor after swallowing! Those flavors coupled with the smooth, rich dark chocolate texture made for a great dessert!

To lighten things up and offer some complementary flavors, the dish was served with lime sorbet and mango compote. I enjoyed the lime sorbet (even when eaten with the cake), but wasn’t too much a fan of the mango compote.

If anyone wants to take me back to Yachtsman, I’ll gladly order this dessert again!

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

The table also ordered the Stone Fruit and Cream dessert, which was a seasonal summer dessert. This included nectarines, Bavarian Cream, and Peach-Champagne Espuma (a.k.a. foam) on top!

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Stone Fruit and Cream

Also on the menu that evening was a Lemon and Blueberry dessert, which was fantabulous, called Lemon Pudding Cake. It also was a summer seasonal dessert, but it included fruit leather (awesome), candied lemon, and a “blueberry shake” that everyone loved.

disney yachtsman steakhouse reviews

Lemon and Blueberry Dessert

This trip — like most Yachtsman Steakhouse visits — was delicious. This is a restaurant that is quite reliable in terms of food quality and variety. Service can sometimes be slow here, but that’s more a function of the servers not wanting to rush you rather than not being attentive. Most signature dining locations want guests to feel as though they’re welcome to stay as long as they want, so if you’re in a hurry be sure to mention that to your server.

The menu here continues to introduce new and interesting options, though all still fit in the relatively heavy steakhouse category. I have never been disappointed with an entree at Yachtsman steakhouse, and I consider it a great alternative to busy restaurants like Le Cellier Steakhouse in Epcot. However, the Yachtsman chef did just transfer over to Le Cellier, and we’re already starting to see some Yachtsman-esque dishes popping up on the menu over there.

Wow. Yachtsman sounded like “just another steak house” until I read this review! Definitely on the list now. The habanero-infused flourless chocolate cake sounds spectacular, and I could enjoy pretty much any of those entrées. It’s a shame about the beef wellington. While I think the “deconstructed” trend is quite fun, it doesn’t always work, especially if a lot of the appeal of the dish is combining the flavours together in one mouthful.

December 19, 2011 at 6:27 am

Yachtsman has been one of my long time favorites. I have many fond memories of phenomenal meals there including an incredible Easter brunch buffet many years ago. Two of my WDW culinary regrets have also occurred there: I never had a chance to try the Kobe steak (when Japanese kobe was still legal in the US, not the current American wagyu) and I regret getting cold feet one night when rattlesnake was on the appetizer menu.

I felt that Yachtsman had slipped in quality and atmosphere a while ago. While I havent been there in a few years I think a return is in finally in order based upon this review.

My fiancé and I just ate there two nights ago. For appetizers, we had the Caesar salad (pretty standard but good presentation) and the cheese board (delicious). My fiancé had the filet – he’s sad he just found out now that he could have swapped red wine sauce (too sweet for his taste) for garlic butter. He deemed the mashed potatoes the best he’s ever had. I don’t eat beef and tried their new pasta dish – Sonoma goat cheese arugula tortellini in a pumpkin purée. There was sun-dried tomato mixed in with the goat cheese. The arugula was in the tortellini pasta but was not overpowering. This was THE BEST dish I’ve ever had on property. I wish this would stay on their menu. It makes me sad knowing I may never have it again since the menu changes often. And our server was fantastic – if she saw we were in conversation she would change directions and let us carry on, or take plates without interrupting. Great meal!

Interesting review from an interesting restaurant AJ. I look forward to trying this out during my next visit because no matter how much i read about it I still can’t decide whether I like the sound of it or not!! One question (and this might apply to all the signature restaurants at WDW) can we order a dish but request that the sauce is made without the alcoholic ingredient?

' src=

December 19, 2011 at 9:00 am

I’m with Becca… this is on my must do list now! Wow, where to start with this post???

1. Beef Ravioli – wow, so different!! Is it just me or do you NEVER see a BEEF ravioli offered anywhere? Sounds delicious!

2. I’m typically not a huge steak girl but that Rib Eye looks RI-DIC-U-LOUS!

3. When I saw the deconstructed beef wellington on the menu I thought that might be something I’d order but I agree, the presentation is not so great. I for one though have always wanted to try a foam! LOL. I’ve never had a dish with a foam on it before and being a huge Marcel fan from Top Chef, you can understand why I want to try one! lol

4. Truffle mac and cheese? Yes, yes, and YES!

5. I’ve never had a flourless cake before.. what makes it so much greater than regular cake? Is it more dense? flavorful? moist?

6. and finally … any dessert with lemon and I’m there!

Thanks AJ for this review. I won’t be able to visit Yachtsman on my next visit but I will definitely be keeping it in my back pocket for the time after that!

I was once in the “don’t like Brussels sprouts” category. I think for most of us who grew up in the 70s or so, the typical way to prepare them was to boil the life out of them and then maybe serve with a splash of vinegar. That pretty much kills any good flavor or texture possible. Instead, if you can get fresh Brussels sprouts and then lightly sauté with a little butter or oven roast them and mix in some flavor enhancers (at home, we use dried cranberries and chopped hazelnuts), these things are insanely good. Glad to see a good use of them on property!

Becca — It’s a really great restaurant! Relaxed and unassuming, but still has some great food on the menu — the perfect mix. Plus, because it’s in a resort, it doesn’t fill up with ADRs as quickly. You can often get a reservation the day of.

Pudge — There’s a brand new chef as of March 2011, and my visit was very good. Not sure if he’ll be changing the menu more significantly, but now’s a good time to visit. And rattlesnake? I think I would have gotten cold feet, too… I need to be more daring!

Katie — That pasta dish sounds amazing! Thank you so much for sharing your experience and review!!

Emma — At a signature restaurant, you should definitely be able to order the sauce without the alcohol. Some non-signature restaurants might make sauces ahead of time, but they should also be able to substitute something in a pinch. Can’t wait to hear if you like Yachtsman or not!

Marci — I know! Beef ravioli with a fondue on top, no less! The flourless chocolate cake is much denser than a typical cake, and usually has a stronger, deeper flavor as well. Think a cross between fudge and a brownie when it comes to texture — super moist and dense.

Jul — Great ideas for Brussels Sprouts!! I thought the sweet carrot-butter sauce at Yachtsman was great. Interestingly, the dish is not yet on the menu, so maybe it didn’t make the cut 🙁

We usually don’t eat at steakhouses as I can do them at home about as well and save so much money. But never the less this restaurant is a nice treat and never fail to be pleasing. I’ve tried many of their dishes over the years and they are almost always memorable.

Love the Yachtsman. When I went last January the charcuterie board had a bleu cheese with lemon brittle. It was amazing! Ribeye and Truffle Mac were also pretty special too. Can’t wait to go back.

It’s interesting… the decor really looks as if it would fit better at The Wilderness Lodge. Maybe it’s those lamps. This is one of those places I’d love to try, but probably won’t get around to anytime soon as one of my party is a vegetarian and, while there is butternut squash ravioli on the menu, there’s really not enough variety to make it worth his while (which makes sense, it being a steakhouse and all!)

We went to Yachtsman two weeks ago for the first time after hearing rave reviews. Sad to say, it really didn’t live up to our expectations. The steaks were good, but I’ve had better at Le Cellier. I ordered the New York Strip (because I wanted to try an aged steak) but was able to have the beignets and red wine sauce with it (thanks to our server for changing things up for us). My mother ordered the New York Strip with its regular sides. When we got our steaks they looked a bit different but I didn’t think much of it. It was good, but not spectacular. A couple days later, when we were discussing our dinner, my mother said she thought I ended up with the rib eye instead (probably because of the change in sides). If this is true, the waiter should have caught the mistake, and the steaks did look different. So now I’m bummed that I spent all of that money for the wrong steak.

Also, we both ordered our steaks medium rare, and there was a big difference between the two. Mine was definitely on the rarer side, while my mother’s was more on the medium side. Now I know why she wouldn’t switch steaks! My father got the porterhouse and he actually complained to the server about the saltiness of it at the end of the meal (after not saying a word to us during the meal). I so wish he had said something when he tried the steak as I’m sure they would have brought him another. We think Dad was just cranky about the prices. The server did remove the two alcoholic drinks from our bill for the salty steak.

Mom and I have decided that we will try Yachtsman again at some point, without Dad. But sadly it wasn’t a “we have to come back here soon” meal for us. We ate at Le Cellier just two days later and felt it was a much better steak (and both were cooked the same). So we will continue to visit Le Cellier as much as possible, and will try Yachtsman again, someday. Sorry for the novel!

I have to side with the posters here who aren’t over the top about the Yachtsman. My family “does Disney” about 2x a year and have for eons. This used to be a regular haunt for us, but not so much over the last 5 years or so. The pricing has steadily increased (although food prices have increased here slower than the mixed drink/ wine prices), and the quality has slid somewhat, so at the end of the meal when I ask “If I had this same meal outside Disney, would I be satisfied?” the answer is usually no. It’s not that I’ve ever had a particularly bad meal here, but at $90+ per person (App., main, sides, drinks, etc.) it doesn’t live up to the standard I’d expect of the same priced meal off property or at home.

There are several Disney restaurants that are quite good – in comparison to other Disney restaurants. If we’re honest, there are only a few that are quite good in comparison to restaurants outside the Disney bubble. To me, this just isn’t one of them.

I will say, however, that I did have a spectacular interaction with a Cast Member here on my last visit. Still, for the money I’ll put on my walking shoes and head to Shula’s or the Flying Fish for a better, equally priced meal.

As I was reading the menu I mentally selected my own choices, so funny that you actually enjoyed several of them. Would have tried the pasta and or the deconstructed Wellingtons. And those desserts, oh my. I have always heard good things about this restaurant but have never eaten there. It will be a must on my next trip, for sure.

Alan — Thanks for your review! I do find that Yachtsman offers a bit more than our average steakhouse at home, but maybe that’s just the Disney magic.

Mark D. — Lemon brittle? Sign me up!

Richard — I know! The decor seems a lot like Artist Point, right? I hope you get over to Yachtsman sometime soon. 🙂

Sue — No worries on the novel, I really appreciate you sharing your experience with us!! And I’m sorry you didn’t have a great meal. When it comes to how steaks are cooked, I’m very picky, so I can understand completely how you’d be upset with not only inconsistent cooking but also possibly the wrong steak!

Love2Travel — I love Flying Fish and Shula’s as well — two of my favorite spots! Thanks for your review and thoughts about Yachtsman!

Paula B. — Ha ha! I look forward to hearing about your visit when you get over there.

I’m a few days late chiming in, but wanted to say that we had Christmas dinner at Yachtsman and it was superb. Because of the holiday, they were serving a slightly more limited, prix fixe menu. Chilled shrimp was served as a family-style appetizer, then we had a choice of Caesar salad or lobster bisque. There were a few steaks, plus a chicken dish and a vegetarian tortelloni dish as main course choices. Family-style sides were creamed spinach and sauteed mushrooms. Dessert was a Valrhona chocolate yule log (can you say “YUM!”?).

My filet was tender and well seasoned. I ordered mine medium rare and it was slightly overcooked (more pink than red in the center), but not enough to ruin my enjoyment of the meal or even to complain about. We were sad, though, that the truffle mac & cheese wasn’t on the menu, as my husband really enjoyed it on our prior trip to Yachtsman (thankfully, he had ordered it at California Grill the night before!).

Our server, Joey, was excellent. He was accommodating and friendly and was present whenever we needed him, but not hovering.

After many years as Le Cellier fans, Yachtsman is our new favorite place at Disney to indulge our carnivorous palates!

I just visited at the beginning of December and had a less then stellar meal. I found the steak I had early in the week at Tony’s of all places better than the one I had over at yachtsmans. I made the mistake of getting the deconstructed beef wellnington and my steak was so over cooked that it was rock like and it just made the funny foam look like soap covering up bad beef. They quickly exchanged my meal…service I will say was wonderful and they had these little lime cookies that I’m still craving. I visited shulas 2 nights earlier and found that to be far better than yachtsmans. Given the cost and the comparison to shulas my family won’t be back.

Partner and I ate here this past weekend on Presidents Day Eve. He had been here before but I had not, so I was excited to try yet another new WDW restaurant. And let me tell you, this place did not disappoint.

If you look at the photo up above labelled “My favorite dining room”, our table was the 2 seater in the middle next to the window. The perfect spot of people watching. And this room, too, was our favorite.

We were going to try the cheese plate, but after seeing that it was exactly the same as the one we had at California Grill just 2 weeks prior (and we’re not too keen on) we passed. Instead we just enjoyed the rolls, butter and roasted garlic. And let me tell you, that roasted garlic is pure heaven. Especially paired with the onion rolls. Bad breath be damned!

Partner did get the oysters. He said he enjoyed them, but prefers raw oysters (these were cooked).

For dinner we both got the filet which was cooked perfectly for our likings. The mashed potatoes were fantastic! We also got the mac and cheese, and while I’m not a huge fan of mac and cheese, this was one of the best I have ever had. Right up there with the truffled mac and cheese you can get at Club 33 at Disneyland. In fact I think I liked it from here a LITTLE bit better than from when I’ve had it at 33!

We shared dessert which included a glass of port, and a chocolate peanut butter and pretzel concoction that was out of this world! Think of it as a glorified and WAY better Reeses. It also came with a caramel gelato with red Hawaiian sea salt on top, which was really yummy.

All told, the food, the service, actually everything here was just perfect. I highly recommend Yachtsmen Steakhouse for a nice dinner. If you can’t get into California Grill, I’d recommend this place as an alternate.

February 22, 2012 at 2:10 pm

Matt — I had that pretzel dessert at Party for the Senses this year and LOVED it! Would really like to have it at Yachtsman, too. 🙂 Thanks for the great review — my mouth is watering!!

My wife and I had dinner at the Yachtsman several years ago. The meal was excellent and the restaurant is beautiful. The only problem I have with it is that I can get a similar meal at Ruth’s Chris steakhouse. When we go to Disney World, we like to eat at places that we can’t duplicate at home. We can find a good steakhouse close to home, but we can’t find anything to rival many of Disney’s unique offerings. I recommend Flying Fish Cafe instead.

I went to the Yachtsman over Labor Day weekend. The food was absolutely amazing I went with 2 friends. We had the lobster bisque and the Cesar salad as appetizers. The onion pull apart rolls were amazing we were actually fighting over them. The sourdough was also really good. The rolls came with butter and entire head of garlic roasted. For our main course was I had the New York strip with twice baked potato my two friends had the Kansas City strip with beef potatoes they were allowed to substitute these instead of the fries. Dessert was the chocolate peanut butter cake. You must eat the pretzel with the cake or the pretzel is a little salty by its self. These was the best meal I have had in a long time..

Where Kamala Harris Stands on the Issues: Abortion, Immigration and More

She wants to protect the right to abortion nationally. Here’s what else to know about her positions.

With Vice President Kamala Harris having replaced President Biden on the Democratic ticket, her stances on key issues will be scrutinized by both parties and the nation’s voters.

She has a long record in politics: as district attorney of San Francisco, as attorney general of California, as a senator, as a presidential candidate and as vice president.

Here is an overview of where she stands.

Ms. Harris supports legislation that would protect the right to abortion nationally, as Roe v. Wade did before it was overturned in 2022, in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

After the Dobbs ruling, she became central to the Biden campaign’s efforts to keep the spotlight on abortion, given that Mr. Biden — with his personal discomfort with abortion and his support for restrictions earlier in his career — was a flawed messenger. In March, she made what was believed to be the first official visit to an abortion clinic by a president or vice president.

She consistently supported abortion rights during her time in the Senate, including cosponsoring legislation that would have banned common state-level restrictions, like requiring doctors to perform specific tests or have hospital admitting privileges in order to provide abortions.

As a presidential candidate in 2019, she argued that states with a history of restricting abortion rights in violation of Roe should be subject to what is known as pre-clearance for new abortion laws — those laws would have to be federally approved before they could take effect. That proposal is not viable now that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe.

Climate change

Ms. Harris has supported the Biden administration’s climate efforts , including legislation that provided hundreds of billions of dollars in tax credits and rebates for renewable energy and electric vehicles.

“It is clear the clock is not just ticking, it is banging,” she said in a speech last year , referring to increasingly severe and frequent disasters spurred by climate change. “And that is why, one year ago, President Biden and I made the largest climate investment in America’s history.”

During her 2020 presidential campaign, she emphasized the need for environmental justice , a framework that calls for policies to address the adverse effects that climate change has on poor communities and people of color. She has emphasized that as vice president as well.

In 2019, Ms. Harris, then a senator, and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Democrat of New York, introduced legislation that would have evaluated environmental rules and laws by how they affected low-income communities. It would have also established an independent Office of Climate and Environmental Justice Accountability and created a “senior adviser on climate justice” within several federal agencies. In 2020, Ms. Harris introduced a more sweeping version of the bill. None of the legislation was passed.

Ms. Harris was tasked with leading the Biden administration’s efforts to secure voting rights legislation, a job she asked for . The legislation — which went through several iterations but was ultimately blocked in the Senate — would have countered voting restrictions in Republican-led states, limited gerrymandering and regulated campaign finance more strictly.

This year, she met with voting rights advocates and described a strategy that included creating a task force on threats to election workers and challenging state voting restrictions in court.

She has condemned former President Donald J. Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. In a speech in 2022 marking the anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, she said that day had showed “what our nation would look like if the forces who seek to dismantle our democracy are successful.” She added, “What was at stake then, and now, is the right to have our future decided the way the Constitution prescribes it: by we the people, all the people.”

Economic policy

In campaign events this year, Ms. Harris has promoted the Biden administration’s economic policies, including the infrastructure bill that Mr. Biden signed, funding for small businesses, a provision in the Inflation Reduction Act that capped the cost of insulin for people on Medicare and student debt forgiveness.

She indicated at an event in May that the administration’s policies to combat climate change would also bring economic benefits by creating jobs in the renewable energy industry. At another event , she promoted more than $100 million in Energy Department grants for auto parts manufacturers to pivot to electric vehicles, which she said would “help to keep our auto supply chains here in America.”

As a senator, she introduced legislation that would have provided a tax credit of up to $6,000 for middle- and low-income families, a proposal she emphasized during her presidential campaign as a way to address income inequality.

Immigration

One of Ms. Harris’s mandates as vice president has been to address the root causes of migration from Latin America, like poverty and violence in migrants’ home countries. Last year, she announced $950 million in pledges from private companies to support Central American communities. Similar commitments made previously totaled about $3 billion.

In 2021, she visited the U.S.-Mexico border and said : “This issue cannot be reduced to a political issue. We’re talking about children, we’re talking about families, we are talking about suffering.”

More recently, she backed a bipartisan border security deal that Mr. Biden endorsed but Mr. Trump, by urging Republican lawmakers to kill it , effectively torpedoed. The legislation would have closed the border if crossings reached a set threshold, and it would have funded thousands of new border security agents and asylum officers. “We are very clear, and I think most Americans are clear, that we have a broken immigration system and we need to fix it,” Ms. Harris said in March .

Israel and Gaza

Ms. Harris called in March for an “immediate cease-fire” in Gaza and described the situation there as a “humanitarian catastrophe.” She said that “the threat Hamas poses to the people of Israel must be eliminated” but also that “too many innocent Palestinians have been killed.”

In an interview later that month , she emphasized her opposition to an Israeli invasion of Rafah, the city in southern Gaza to which more than a million people had fled. “I have studied the maps,” she said. “There’s nowhere for those folks to go, and we’re looking at about 1.5 million people in Rafah who are there because they were told to go there, most of them.”

She has said on multiple occasions that she supports a two-state solution.

Racial justice

Racial justice was a theme of Ms. Harris’s presidential campaign. In a memorable debate exchange in 2019 , she denounced Mr. Biden’s past work with segregationist senators and opposition to school busing mandates.

She has called for ending mandatory minimum sentences, cash bail and the death penalty, which disproportionately affect people of color.

Amid the protests that followed the police killing of George Floyd in 2020, she was one of the senators who introduced the Justice in Policing Act, which would have made it easier to prosecute police officers, created a national registry of police misconduct and required officers to complete training on racial profiling. It was not passed.

Her record as a prosecutor also came into play during her presidential campaign. Critics noted that as attorney general of California, she had generally avoided stepping in to investigate police killings.
