Monaco Yacht Club's Flagship Tuiga Triumphs at Richard Mille Cup 2023

The world of high-seas competition is a unique space where precision, team effort, and exceptional engineering all intersect, and the Richard Mille Cup 2023 encapsulates these elements brilliantly. This year, the event was highlighted by the standout performance of Tuiga, the flagship of the Monaco Yacht Club, which clinched an impressive third overall position after the challenging crossing from the Isle of Wight to Le Havre, France.

Present at the event was none other than Richard Mille himself, the powerhouse behind the highly prestigious Cup. His passion for sailing is well known, with his brand synonymous with not only superior watchmaking but also top-tier sporting events. Mille was captured in a moment of camaraderie alongside Isi Miele, a notable presence at the gathering.

Isi Miele, a celebrated figure in the yachting community, not only brings charisma to such events but also an incredible commitment to environmental causes. As the president of Sport for Nature Monaco, Miele's initiatives extend beyond sailing competitions, as he works tirelessly towards promoting eco-friendly practices and preserving our planet.

Just a few days prior to the Richard Mille Cup, Miele spearheaded the successful inaugural edition of the Sport For Nature Monaco Awards, an event that honors the intersection of sport and environmental stewardship. Under his leadership, this gala raised a significant €18,500, all of which will benefit the Prince Albert II Foundation.

Returning to the Richard Mille Cup, Miele, all smiles alongside Mille, exuded an undeniable charm. Together, these two personalities epitomize the fusion of elegance, luxury, and sporting spirit that this event represents.

In the spotlight was Monaco's pride, the yacht Tuiga. Representing the Monaco Yacht Club, Tuiga displayed an exceptional performance, tackling the demanding journey across the Channel with aplomb. This crossing, from the Isle of Wight in the UK to the bustling port city of Le Havre in France, is not a race for the faint-hearted. It requires not only a yacht of superior build but also a crew of unmatched resilience and unity – qualities that Tuiga and her crew demonstrated in full measure.

Securing the third overall position in such a competitive race, Tuiga once again illustrated the fine craftsmanship, strategic seamanship, and strong bond between the yacht and her crew. This performance further cements the Monaco Yacht Club's status as a major player on the international sailing scene, a reputation that Miele, as a member, helps to uphold and enhance.

The Richard Mille Cup 2023 was a remarkable blend of competition, camaraderie, and exceptional yachting, attracting sailing enthusiasts from around the world. This event, with its captivating hash-tags #richardmillecup, #monaco, #yachtclubdemonaco, and #sailing, underscored the global appeal of such sailing spectacles and the allure of the sport.

As the sun set on the Richard Mille Cup 2023, participants and spectators alike would have felt the enchantment of a day spent at sea, fuelled by a spirit of competition and mutual respect among sailors. The memory of this event, enhanced by the presence and environmental contributions of personalities like Miele, will keep the sailing community's spirits high until the sails are hoisted again.

Yacht Club’s Tuiga second in this year’s Big Boat category

Yacht Club’s Tuiga second in this year’s Big Boat category

The 2023 season has returned its verdict on classic sailing yachts and it’s Yacht Club de Monaco’s flagship Tuiga and her crew of committed members who top the AFYT ranking, the Club reports.

Founded in 1994 under the aegis of Yacht Club de France, the mission of the Association Française des Yachts de Tradition (AFYT) is to bring together owners of classic yachts and more broadly all enthusiasts of traditional sailing. Another objective is to develop and make available to as many people as possible all the information on classic boats (sailing or motor).

Founded in 1926 by Yacht Club de France (1867), Regio Yacht Club Italiano (1879) and Real Club Nautico de Barcelona (1879), CIM (International Mediterranean Committee) is behind how classic yacht races are organised and regulated in the Mediterranean.

This year several boats from Yacht Club de Monaco left their mark on this circuit including Tuiga. The gaff cutter finished second in the Big Boat category just ahead of Carlo Falcone and his Mariella. In the Vintage Gaff, Viola led by Kostia Belkin came third.

Historical:

The Yacht Club de Monaco’s comments: https://www.yacht-club-monaco.mc

“For a long time I had wanted our Club to have a prestigious vessel that would be a demonstration of the faith and esteem in which we hold our maritime heritage and classic yachting. So, when I discovered Tuiga in the harbour in Cannes and the opportunity arose to purchase her in 1995, I was very happy to seize it. One could not have found a more beautiful or motivational boat to give our younger as well as older sailors a taste for classic yachting. Tuiga is a very enjoyable boat to helm but sailing her is a sport in itself.”

Tuiga’s long life began in 1909 when she slipped into the cold Scottish waters at the boat builder William Fife’s yard. She had been commissioned by the Duke of Medinaceli, a close friend of the King of Spain, Alfonso XIII. William Fife designed Tuiga as a twin to the Fife-built Hispania, so that the two 15M IR vessels could race together on an equal footing. From a distance, the two sister-yachts were indeed difficult to distinguish. It took just six months to build Tuiga who somehow always managed to come second, just behind the Royal Yacht Hispania. Given the similarity in design and construction, rumour had it that the good Duke preferred to rein in Tuiga for fear of creating the embarrassing situation of having beaten his friend and sovereign King Alfonso XIII.

After several years being totally restored at the Fairlie Restorations boatyard in England, supervised by Duncan Walker, Tuiga is today the Yacht Club de Monaco’s flagship.

As well as competing in the Mediterranean classic yacht regattas, she was in Benodet to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Pen Duick, and took part in the Universal Exhibition in Lisbon in 1998. She also participated in the America’s Cup Jubilee regatta on the Isle of Wight in August 2001 and called into Valencia in 2007 to participate in the festivities for the 32nd America’s Cup.

In 2008, having joined the Armada on the River Seine, she then took top honours at Cowes Classic Week despite not having sailed in the Solent since the America’s Cup Jubilee in 2001. For this 15M IR, it was a great honour to be moored in front of the famous Royal Yacht Squadron, a prestigious venue which has written some of the finest pages in the history of yachting.

Such intense activity demonstrates just how committed the YCM members who crew on Tuiga are to the yachting tradition. Their interest has never wavered, like that of their President HSH Prince Albert II who often takes the helm, as have Eric Tabarly, Paul Cayard and Dennis Conner. It is this enthusiasm which led to “Spirit of Tuiga”, a club which unites all those in Monaco who are passionate about yachts.

Yacht Class n°12 (march-april-may 2018)

Yacht club de monaco.

Behind the acquisition of this magnificent sailboat, Bernard d’Alessandri, General Secretary of the Yacht Club de Monaco, is not short of flattering words to describe this unit he worships, and he has often helmed. For him, she is not only the most magnificent boat, but also the perfect one to teach the young generation the secrets of manoeuvring and adjustments.

Interview by JM Moreno

You are behind the acquisition of Tuiga. Why did you choose this sailboat ?

We were looking for a maritime ambassador that reflected our sports dynamics. Elegant, sporty, building a team spirit (sailing with a united crew) in the pure yachting tradition and etiquette, Tuiga symbolizes all the values dear to the Yacht Club de Monaco. How did you initiate the contact and the sales with Albert Obrist ?I discovered the boat in Saint-Tropez. So, early on a Sunday morning, Prince Albert and I went to see her in Cannes. Tuiga had just undergone a beautiful four-year restoration – she was even rebuilt piece-by-piece – by Albert Obrist. This was love at first sight. Eric Tabarly accompanied us with the handover of this boat he considered to be “one of the world’s most beautiful yachts”.

What is the vocation of the Tuiga Committee ? How does it work ?

The Tuiga Committee brings together members, generous donors and yachting enthusiasts, who financially support the regatta seasons and the boat maintenance. Together with Mariska (1908), Hispania (1909) and The Lady Anne (1912), Tuiga (1909) belongs to an extremely closed club that will probably never get more than its actual four members : the authentic 15mR still sailing. In parallel to our common regatta calendar, we want to go even further in the exchange of technical knowledge, tonnage, improvements, etc… Our goal is to promote this class and to encourage the initiatives of enthusiasts who would like to build a replica or bring a 15mR back to life.

How does it work ? Who can benefit ? What skills are required ?

Eager to encourage training and promote the yachting trades, the Y.C.M. has decided to transmit its experience and expertise to young generations by creating in 1999, the “EFG Bank Sailing Academy by the Yacht Club de Monaco”. The objective : to ensure the professional qualification and integration of young adults within its structure, by training them for the organization of nautical events, to enter a crew or high-level competitions. The selected young candidates, no older than 18, receive a complete apprenticeship in the premises of La Belle Classe Academy, the training center of the Yacht Club de Monaco. Alternating theoretical and practical courses, over a nine-month period, trainees then have the privilege of joining Tuiga’s crew, to participate to the Mediterranean circuit. This is an exceptional way to supplement their knowledge and improve their skills in maintenance and specific maneuvering of traditional yachts. After getting the diploma, some of our trainees have even decided to make Monaco their home port, like Nicolas Rouit, who was successively second and captain of Tuiga. He now officiates on a 36 m motor-yacht built in 1936, under the Monegasque flag.Through this formation, the Y.C.M. intends to accompany the young people who want to get involved in this sector, enabling them to enter this exclusive and demanding field, reinforcing Monaco’s position as a centre of yachting excellence.

How is chosen Tuiga’s skipper ? And for how long ?

The skipper must have technical skills but also excellent human qualities. To know how to manoeuvre these physically demanding yachts, with no assistance, not even a winch. To have the knowledge to maintain these boats that require a daily attention and whose construction techniques are centenarians. To be a good team leader, a manager and to know how to convey your passion when welcoming guests on board.

You steered many boats, what do you feel at Tuiga’s helm ?

First of all, a deep feeling of freedom… but you quickly realize your privilege and especially the responsibility of having this sailboat in the hands, who has lived through a century of navigation across the world. Beyond the architectural, aesthetic or sporting dimension, this is above all a human adventure : the encounter between this boat and her successive owners. Today our duty is to pass this maritime heritage to the new generation, because our time as the repository of this very precious heritage is limited.

Monaco Yacht Show 2024: The Biggest, Boldest and Most Expensive Superyachts To See

Even in its 33rd year, Monaco Yacht Show continues to break its own milestones.

By Ellys Woodhouse and Toby Louch

tuiga yacht monaco

The principality of Monaco has a calendar that’s filled with major events. While the financial benefits of this little tax haven ensure its population remains fairly well stocked with super-rich and socialites year-round, it’s these events that truly bring the masses. April calls for the tennis at The Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters; in May it’s time for the Formula One Grand Prix ; June brings the world-famous car show Top Marques ; and summer draws to a close with perhaps the most glam of the bunch, the Monaco Yacht Show, which this year falls on September 25 – 28.

For those interested in gazing upon some of the finest yachts that can be found anywhere in the world, Monaco ’s Port Hercules is a pretty good spot year-round, but for the weekend of the Monaco Yacht Show, things enter a different league.

The Monaco Yacht Show is essentially a gathering of the global superyacht community. From owners to innovators, manufacturers and brokers, all head to the principality. Each year, builders and brokers present around 120 superyachts and 60 luxury tenders , with many of these reflecting current industry trends and revealing the potential future direction of the industry. These vessels boast an average length of around 160 ft, with a sprinkling of superyachts that top the 320 ft mark – with this year’s headliner clocking in at 400 ft.

Aside from the yachts themselves, visitors can expect countless designers improving yacht interiors and engineers working to ensure the industry becomes more sustainable. There’s sure to be a lot going on.

So ahead of this year’s event, Elite Traveler has looked into which yachts will be on display at Port Hercules and curated a list of some of the show’s unmissable vessels. So blow the dust off your Panama hat and add a few zeros to your credit card limit, because these are some of the biggest, boldest and most expensive boats attending the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show.

The undisputed biggest headline of this year’s show – in every sense of the word – Lürssen’s Kismet will be the largest yacht to go on display in Port Hercules. While the previous title holder was another from Lürssen, the 377.6-ft Ahpo, the Kismet takes its victory by a considerable mile, clocking in at 400 ft. Previously known as Project Jag, the Kisamet was handed over to owner Shahid Khan in May 2024, making it one of the show’s newest deliveries, too.

With exterior design by Nuvolari Lenard and naval architecture by Lürssen Yachts along with Reymond Langton Design working on the yacht’s interiors , Kismet is decked out with a helipad, beauty salon, indoor and outdoor cinema, dance floor and gym. Perhaps unsurprising, but all this makes Kisamet one of the most expensive yachts to charter , too, asking for €3m (approx. $3.4m) per week with Cecil Wright & Partners.

Delivered in 2019 by SilverYachts and refitted in 2024, the almost 280-ft, self-described ‘sports activity vessel’ Bold takes center stage at Monaco Yacht Show 2024. Designers Espen Øino created the superyacht’s striking, military-inspired exterior, creating a unique glass-enclosed loft on the upper deck that covers over 3,200 sq-ft of interior space. Meanwhile, Vain Interiors has created an opulent, New York-style loft, which is built to accommodate up to 12 overnight guests in eight luxurious staterooms and can carry up to 96 passengers while cruising.

With a a huge selection of water toys, a vast outdoor entertaining area with a bar and Teppanyaki grill, a cinema, an eight-person hot tub and a lounge surrounding a firepit, it’s no surprise that the Bold is a popular charter yacht, with Holl Robinson asking €875,000 ($972, 800) per week.

Following an extensive, three-year rebuild, the most expensive superyacht on the market has returned to Port Hercules for 2024, complete with a new look – and price tag, too, asking for €295m ($328m). The 344.5-ft Oceanco H3 superyacht has already picked up a handful of international awards for the new look and is expected to impress many fans at Monaco Yacht Show 2024.

In addition to the extra 10 meters that were added to the H3 ’s hull, the rebuild – from the likes of Reymond Langton Design, which worked on both the exterior and interior redesign, and the collaboration between Lateral Naval Architects and Oceanco on its naval architecture – also saw a pool deck, huge spa and wellness area and climate-controlled winter garden added to H3 ’s numerous amenities.

With its distinctive, shark-like exterior design, the 295-ft superyacht DAR will be hard not to miss at Monaco Yacht Show 2024. Built by Oceanco with exteriors designed by Luiz de Basto Design, the glossy black silhouette was inspired by the look of the hammerhead shark, with sinuous lines, wide set wing stations and a mast modeled after a dorsal fin.

Meanwhile, renowned Italy-based studio Nuvolari & Lenard has crafted swooping, contemporary interiors. DAR’s impressive features include a complete owner’s deck, complete with a private salon and jacuzzi, a wellness area, an impressive beach club, and two helipads for private use. Offering grandeur and complete privacy in equal doses, DAR can accommodate up to 14 guests in overnight accommodation, with separate living quarters to host as many as 31 crew members.

Despite only hitting the waters in June this year, the first wallywind110, Galma , is set to make its global debut at Monaco Yacht Show 2024. Measuring almost 110 ft, Galma ’s naval architecture comes from German studio judel/vrolijk & co while interior and exterior lines are designed by Wally in collaboration with Santa Maria Magnolfi. With a design that offers the comfort of a cruising yacht while maintaining the performance of a racing boat, Galma is characterized by the 22.6-ft telescopic keel and an all-carbon hull that has been painted in light metallic blue.

Other highlights of Galma include an 860-sq-ft full-beam cockpit with seating and dining for up to 15 people, as well as an open-plan raised saloon. Galma can accommodate up to eight guests overnight, with five crew members.

D3 Tuiga

Pampered by all since becoming the flagship of the Yacht Club de Monaco in 1995, Tuiga , born in the early 20th century, is one of the most beautiful jewels of the classical yachts meetings. She now trains young generations of sailors, without winches, nor pity…

The metre rule, this scholarly equation enabling sailboats to compete on an equal footing while giving architects some freedom of interpretation, was created in 1906. The most famous boats in this international rule are of course the 6mR, an Olympic boat since 1908 and the 12mR, the America’s Cup vessel from 1958 to 1987. And the 15mR whose racing life was short (1907 – 1917), but intense. Tuiga belongs to this family that only counted twenty units. But what a lineage !

To found in the shop of the Yacht Club de Monaco

Livre 150 ans

The 15mR class started taking off in 1909 with the construction of six units including Hispania, commissioned by King Alfonso XIII, designed by the famous William Fife and built in Spain, in the Karpard shipyard in Pasajes. A close friend of the king, the Duke de Medinaceli ordered an almost identical sailboat that was built in Fairlie, Scotland, at the Fife shipyard. Just a few months were necessary to create the beautiful “composite” hull with a mahogany planking and bronze rivets on a steel frame. Thus, was born in the spring of 1909 the amazing and famous Tuiga. Amazing because this aristocracy and wealthy’s plaything is a thoroughbred designed for competition. Famous because no sooner was she launched than she clocked up the miles in the Atlantic to face her sister-ship Hispania in San Sebastian where she finished second, a few metres behind her noble competitor. A month later, in Cowes, the 15mR, Hispania won three races, while Tuiga took second place three times. As if to confirm the rumour that the Duke de Medinaceli was letting the king win out of deference, Tuiga finished at a stone’s throw from Hispania during the San-Sebastian-Biarritz race the following summer. And as if to perfect her reputation of eternal second, she did it again at Ryde international regatta, won by… Hispania. In 1912, the Nicholsons shipyard launched Istria, a revolutionary 15mR. Her one-piece mast prefigured the Marconi rigging while the lighter hull in pine slats allowed to carry more ballast and sails. The two jewels designed by William Fife were definitely surprised in full swing by such technological progress, and quickly found themselves at the bottom of the rankings. In Cowes, Hispania finished fourth and Tuiga last ! In 1913, the two veterans made a modest appearance on the international circuit, at the regattas of Le Havre. The following year, while the world turned into a war zone, the regatta fever redoubled among sailing aristocrats. In the neutral Scandinavia, races were organized during summer 1915, where competed twelve 15mR bought in Great Britain.

In 1916, Tuiga and Hispania, apparently inseparable, joined the Nordic fleet. The first was sold to a Swedish yachtman who renamed her Betty IV while the second delighted a Norwegian racer. In 1917, while the Russians were making their revolution and the French, English, Americans and Prussians were still at each other throats, Scandinavia fell in love with the wonderful yachts of the International Rule. The same year, the Norwegian naval architect Johan August Anker, the future father of the Dragon, designed Neptune, the twentieth and last 15mR built according to the 1906 class rule. However, 1917 also marked the end of the lunacy of regattas on these thoroughbred over twenty metres. And everyone then had a more or less fortunate retirement. In 1923, Tuiga was bought by the vice-commodore of the Royal Thames Yacht Club and headed back to her mother country under the name of Dorina. Ten years later, the boat was acquired by J. Colin Newman. She was renamed Kismet III and endowed with a Marconi rig that made her the scratch winner of the Fastnet Race 1935. The proof that such a perfect hull could still do wonders in one of the most famous European races, even 26 years after her launch. All things considered, when many 15mR have experienced abandonment and mudflats agonies, Tuiga had done rather well. In 1936, her path crossed with the Douglas family who pampered her for 34 years under the name of Nevada and, even made her pass in modern times by giving her her first engine. In 1970, she became the property of Jan Rose, from Glasgow and joined the Mediterranean and the charter fleet. Out of convenience, she even received the 12mR Sceptre’s aluminum mast.

Luckily, after ten years of charter and an attempt at restoration by two French who wanted to circumnavigate, an exhausted Tuiga, who had since reverted to her maiden name, surfed on late eighties’ nascent wave of classic yachting. She owed her salvation to three exceptional men : Albert Obrist, a collector of ancient yachts, who bought Tuiga in 1989 and also owned the magnificent Altaïr (a Fife design), William Collier, an erudite naval historian and Duncan Walter, an enthusiast naval carpenter and director of the brand-new English shipyard Fairlie Restorations that was created by Obrist for Tuiga. Restoring the 15mR took four years. More than a year of negotiation was first necessary with the last owner of the Scottish yard, Archie Mc Millan, who was then in his nineties, to acquire nearly all the Fife design he stored in a garden shed. The next step was then to use a step by step approach inside the hull to rebuild the entire structure and the plank, as the massive corrosion between the mahogany planks, the steel frameworks and the bronze rivets left no intermediary alternatives. Thanks to the original designs, the yard fully restored Tuiga’s former splendor, as was the will of the three men. As new, the boat rushed once again on the Atlantic, then to Saint-Tropez where she immediately asserted her superiority against Moonbeam III during the Nioulargue 1993.

Immediately, Bernard d’Alessandri, General Secretary of the Yacht Club de Monaco and vice-president of the International Mediterranean Committee, saw in Tuiga the sailboat that would fulfill his wish. “We needed a boost and to find a flagship that reflected the sports dynamics of our club,” he says. As a top authority in the classic yachting, he convinced H.S.H. Prince Albert II that visiting this boat was worth the detour. In the early hours of a fine autumn Sunday, both went to Cannes. Did Eric Tabarly’s passion for this Fife design weigh in the balance ? Nevertheless, via the creation of a Tuiga Committee, the boat was bought to Albert Obrist and quickly integrated the most hospitable Yacht Club, welcoming its members during sea trips or regattas. The 15mR also regularly welcomes young trainees interested in careers in classic sailing. In addition to 500 hours of training (marine carpentry, seamanship, fairing, sailmaking, mechanics, etc.) the trainees made their first steps aboard during the Prada Challenge. A unique opportunity to discover the art of handling 411 m2 of sail area without any winch. Violence can come on board when the wind gets angry. During an outing under the leadership of Eric Tabarly, who never missed an opportunity to take the helm of this unit he considered to be the most beautiful Fife, (on an equal footing with his Pen Duick), 30 knots of winds were whipping Tuiga under full sails. Against the advices of some teammates, including Bernard d’Alessandri and Prince Albert II, Tabarly did not want to reduce the sail area. As is well known, slowing down was not part of his vocabulary. Consequence : a gybe caused a crewmember to fall into the water while the mainsail slipped from the Prince’s hand, severely burning his palms. The 15mR had just shown her character and no one blamed our national sailor…

Thus, the wonderfully maintained Tuiga still continues in the 21st century her long life of seas thoroughbred, nine years after a centennial fiercely celebrated in the Principality during the Monaco Classic Week 2009. For some years now, she has been regularly competing in the Paneraï circuit with the three other 15mR still sailing, among which… Hispania !

Hublot Classic Fusion Yacht Club de Monaco Limited Edition

Swiss luxury watch brand Hublot marks the 100th anniversary of the Admiral Tuiga by presenting the Classic Fusion Yacht Club de Monaco Limited Edition.

This year, on the Rock of Monaco, Hublot is taking part in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Admiral Tuiga, alongside the Yacht Club de Monaco, its long standing partner and friend.

This also provides an opportunity for the watchmaker to present a new limited series watch dedicated to the legendary sailing ship, in the presence of HRH Prince Albert II of Monaco. It is in the 9th Monaco Classic Week that the festivities in honour of Tuiga are organised.

Hublot Classic Fusion Yacht Club de Monaco Limited Edition

Hublot, official timekeeper of the Yacht Club de Monaco, is celebrating not only the sea and the superb traditional sailing ships, but has insisted on creating a new model in the colours of the prestigious Yacht Club: a watch bearing the name Tuiga, on which the dates 1909 and 2009 are engraved.

Indeed, this sailing ship, a “15 Metre class” was built by W. Fife in 1909 and restored in 1993. It is the emblem of the Yacht Club de Monaco, still proud and magnificent today on its 100th anniversary.

In the spirit of respect for tradition while being at the cutting edge of technology, Hublot has created a pink gold, ceramic and carbon watch, with a rubber strap.

The Classic Fusion model, with its sporty chic design, and personalised by the flags of the Yacht Club at 9 o’clock and the name Tuiga at 6 o’clock, is eagerly anticipated by yachting and fine watch lovers.

Hublot is also taking part in all the events of the Classic Week, and rewarding those achieving distinction in various categories, such as the Personality of the Sea (for outstanding action in the field of marine and environmental protection), the Belle Classe Owner(for best yacht restoration respecting maritime heritage), and the various winners of the Classic Week competitions.

Superyacht insider sneak peek: 5 of the largest superyachts at the 2024 monaco yacht show.

The 400-foot-long Kismet embarks on her maiden voyage in the Med

When it comes to exclusive enclaves, it’s pretty hard to compete with Monaco. The world’s elite flock to the tiny principality on the French Rivera for its sunny weather, sophisticated hotels and casinos, spectacular shopping and other financial reasons. They love to drive their fast cars down the famous roads leading into the city, and they love the speed and power of the legendary Monaco Grand Prix, too.

Monaco Yacht Show 20224

But as for the absolute pinnacle of luxury, it doesn’t get much better than owning a superyacht. And for the select few who happen to be shopping for a superyacht, there’s one place to see nearly all of the best, and biggest, and most technologically advanced yachts that money can buy (in addition to the tenders, and limousines, and private submarines, and luxury cars that go along with a superyacht) in one place: The Monaco Yacht Show , which starts next week.

Renaissance is massive

During the show, the docks of Monaco’s famous port are always filled with numerous yachts longer than 250 feet. But this year, the largest superyacht in the show is 400 feet long! And lots of superyachts in the 300-foot-long range will be there, too.

Hackers Force Chrome Users To Hand Over Google Passwords. Here’s How

Apple’s update decision—bad news confirmed for millions of iphone users, today’s eclipse of the full moon sets up a ‘ring of fire’ — what to know.

So, if you are lucky enough to be in Monaco later this month, I’ll see you there. But if you not, here’s a sneak peek at the five largest yachts that will be on display.

Kismet underway

What can I say about the 400-foot-long Kismet (which was built by Lürssen , features an exterior design by Nuvolari Lenard and an interior design by Reymond Langton Design and is available for charter with Cecil Wright ) that can help you understand just how big a 400-foot-long superyacht is? How about, since it measures 40 feet longer than an American football field (including the end zones), it’s safe to say that Kismet would only just barely fit inside the Jacksonville Jaguars EverBank Stadium. And that’s only if it could somehow be lowered from the top with a crane!

Kismet departs Lurssen shipyard in Germany

But since these photos and that explanation can’t really convey just how big Shaid Kahn ’s (the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars) new 400-foot-long superyacht is...The only way you’ll really be able to understand just how big the Jacksonville Jaguars owner’s new yacht is to see it for yourself in Monaco next week. It’s going to be largest yacht at the show and has raised the bar on what’s possible when it comes to designing, building, owning and chartering the largest yachts in the world.

The interior for the 400-foot-long Kismet that charters for $3 million per week

And since Kismet has already spent her first season in the Mediterranean and is available for charter through Cecil Wright (instead of being hidden away for a private owner like many yachts in this size range are), you, too, could experience what it’s like to live the superyacht life aboard one of the largest and most opulent vessels in the world.

The interior for the 400-foot-long Kismet that charters for $3 million per week is massive

So, if you looking for a charter yacht that costs roughly $3 million per week, the Monaco Yacht Show will be the place where you can see just how opulent Kismet (and theses other superyachts too) for yourself.

‘Renaissance’

The Bannenberg & Rowell-designed Renaissance that can accommodate 36 guests in 16 cabins is unlike ... [+] most other superyachts that are available to charter

The 367-foot-long, 7,200-gross ton, Bannenberg & Rowell -designed Renaissance is um, a “really big superyacht.” But what intrigues me the most is that unlike most superyachts that can only accommodate 12 guests per charter, Renaissance has been designed to swaddle 36 guests in superyacht luxury.

Renaissance underway

As you’d imagine, this yacht has it all. Open-air dining on five decks and a dining room with 18-foot-tall ceilings on the main deck. A sushi bar. A pizza oven by the huge pool. And of course, the requisite DJ stations when it’s time to party. There’s also a massive cinema that has seating 19 guests on lower deck—the perfect place to just Netflix-n-chill.

The 18-foot ceilings aboard RENAISSANCE BANNENBERG + ROWELL DESIGN

And, oh yeah, the spa features hot and cold plunge pools, steam room and sauna, two treatment rooms and a full beauty salon. Contact Burgess for more info.

The all-new exterior lines of Oceanco H3

I’ve seen lots of superyacht designs come to life thanks to the hard work, dedication, perseverance and love that the large fraternity of superyacht designers, builders, artists and countless others pour into every spectacular new yacht that gets launched.

The rebuilt Oceanco H3 got a "rockstar" relaunch.

But I must admit, after seeing the 344-foot-long Oceanco -built (and rebuilt) H3 (first launched in 2000) emerge after an intensive 3-year-rebuild, I’m at a loss for words. I’m in awe, actually. Because after spending time at Oceanco with the project team and the owner's representative , I understand why this project is way more than just a refit.

It’s been transformed into a brand-new yacht with every modern comfort, but also retains its…soul.

The accommodations onboard the 334-foot-long H3 are spectacular

The sustainability impact of this project is also pretty awe-inspiring to me, too. According to Oceanco’s team of engineers, simply using an existing hull instead of building an brand-new one resulted in a 50% reduction of carbon emissions for the build. And since H3 has been repowered with smaller yet much more efficient engines (and her top speed has been reduced slightly), the yacht burns much less fuel than she previously did as well. Delivery time was reduced by 25% as well, and hopefully we see more projects take this approach in the future.

The video wall in the welcome area of the Ocean co H3 is innovative as well as attention grabbing.

Oceanco’s CEO Marcel Onkenhout adds, “To say that this has been a remarkable process is an understatement. The project has called for passion, dedication and extraordinary craftsmanship, with many involved in her creation now contributing to her recreation, including myself.” Contact Edmiston for more info.

Silver Yachts' BOLD is sure to get attention at this years Monaco Yacht Show

The 278-foot-long BOLD is the largest and most aggressive superyacht the Australian-based Silveryachts has ever built. Working in collaboration with yacht designer Espen Øino BOLD brings a whole new look to the explorer yacht category.

There helideck aboard BOLD is...bold!

Amels Full Custom ENERGY will be at the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show

The 255-foot-long Amels full-custom yacht ENERGY was created by exterior designer Espen Øino and interior designer Francois Zuretti to provide unapparelled luxury and access to the water.

The top deck’s helipad forward is a versatile space outside heliops—sun lounge, al fresco yoga studio with wraparound ocean views, a space for elevated entertainment served by the statement bar...assorted lounging areas and dayhead inside. The jacuzzi and sun pads aft allow guests to bask in the sun.

The bridge deck music lounge is designed for acoustic excellence. There is a Steinway baby grand piano and marble-topped bar. The entertainment continues in the open-air lounge aft, guests can find some privacy on the sofa forward of the bridge or keep going on the walkaround sidedecks to appreciate the anchorage from every possible vantage point.

Full-height windows in the the owner’s deck bedroom provide direct access to a private foredeck terrace, a hot tub and a mesmerizing marble fire pit. Contact Burgess for more info.

Tuiga to sail again

Thursday 4 th June. The Yacht Club de Monaco’s much loved flagship will be back on the water this weekend with nine training sessions planned between now and the end of August. Saturday 6 th June will be the first day sails are hoisted on the gaff cutter and the crew is inviting others who wish to sail on her to join them, limited to 20 people per sailing.

Health measures will be scrupulously respected with crew movements carefully supervised and alcohol-based hand sanitisers available. Everyone is required to wear a mask (their own personal one if possible) and bring their own bottle of water to reduce usage of single-use plastic bottles on board.

A legendary boat which has seen many a big-name sailor at the helm such as Eric Tabarly,  Tuiga is one of four surviving 15M IR yachts still sailing in the world.  If you want to experience what it was like to race over a century ago, contact the crew at the following address: [email protected]
