Yachtico - Are they any good?

  • Add to quote

Looking at renting a 40 ft cat in Croatia from this company. Any experience you have had with them would be appreciated.

They also go by the name A Yacht Charter Group and offer some nice looking vessels. Who knows them?

yachtico inc

I'm dealing with them now but a bit unsure... did you end up using them nomad? how did it go?

Yachtico is NOT "A Yacht Charter Group". They are a bigger player. Check a few articles in the Press Room - Media coverage at Yachtico.com They deal with a lot of clients, I think there are no complains about them in the web... regards, Bernd

Look at their facebook page and read the reviews...

hey everybody i chartered twice with Yachtico.com. Everything was fine and we had a great sailing vacation. According to their website they have more than 15.000 boats for charter!!! you can compare prices, check availability and book online. @sailbeat: i also had a look at the facebook page. Seems like a competitor is bad mouthing them. anyways... i would charter with Yachtico.com again

We are using them to charter in Sardinia. Now we are talking directly to the actual charter company in Portisco all seems good but Yachtico have been difficult to say the least. Watch their so called 'optional extras' as these are actually just a surcharge to claw back some of the discount they say they offer to get you to book. We were told the tender and cooking gas were 'optional extras' and if we didn't book them we wouldn't have them on the boat. Our local owner now tells us they are always included as standard and had we not ordered them and paid extra we would still get them supplied. So we tried to cancel them and get a refund from Yachtico only to be told there was 100% cancellation fee. Extraordinary behaviour. Also they don't seem to have any knowledge of UK based certification and kept insisting we provide a 'boating licence'. Then they said RYA Coastal Skipper and VHF would be find and we definitely didn't need ICC. Again, when we finally spoke to the owner he said ICC was required for Italian waters so we had to fast track through RYA which cost us more money. We could easily have applied for our ICC for free from RYA as we are members had they been clear in the first instance. They do seem to have a good range of boats, but they are essentially brokers. Check the small print and don't pay for any options until you are talking directly to the boat owner.

NO! Do not use Yachtico! They are so unprofessional and they book through other companies - so book direct is better anyway ... They misquote and charge extra and we had to pay for gas and taxes and transfers onsite - which we were told was already paid and we weren't told to have extra money for these and then when we came back they didn't return our phone calls or emails. We had to set up private transfers too as we paid for airport pick up as it was 7 of us and they misquoted that too and it wasn't from the airport and we would have had to get 2-3 taxis to get us there in time! The entire process from booking to getting information and confirmations and misinformation was a bad experience! They need to go out of business -as talking with others this is a common occurrence!

In early February 2020, we booked a bareboat yacht charter for a week of sailing in Greece in July 2020 and due to COVID were not able to proceed. Instead of asking for a refund, we asked Yachtico to credit our 50% deposit for future use however they insisted on us paying 100% and committing to using the entire credit within 12 months. Given the uncertainty of COVID and a continuing travel ban imposed on us here in Australia, we could not agree to this. Disappointingly, four subsequent emails, including to the owner, Steffen Bruenn, were never responded to. One of the emails pointed out to Yachtico that their own Terms & Conditions actually state that a credit is due when there is a 'Force Majeure' (Clause XI.) which a travel ban imposed by a government clearly is. Sadly, our experience means we will never use Yachtico again and wont' recommend it to anyone else.

Yachtico: Bait & Switch

I booked a 4-Cabin Nautitech (Pina Colada) in September 2023. 10 days prior to my April 6, 2024 charter Yachtico told me Pina Colada had been damaged in a prior charter and they had to substitute a 3-Cabin Lagoon. Upon arrival at the marina the charter operator told me the Lagoon had been booked back in September 2023 under my name. Pina Colada was in the marina, undamaged and available for charter! This was a unethical Bait & Switch! Do not trust or charter with Yachtico. I also paid $125 for extra towels, and the charter company told me they did not get this order, and were not paid by Yachtico to support this request.

Dear V Z, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I’m sorry you had a less than stellar experience. We usually have excellent reviews from our customers for the excellent online booking experience along with a great customer service such as "...excellent service.." or "...I will refer Yachtico 100%..." We checked back with the local charter base and your captain and learned: 1. You had a great charter week with no complains from your end during your charter. 2. The CATAMARAN (complementary upgrade) you enjoyed was - YOUNGER - RECENTLY REFITTED - BETTER EQUIPPED - in better shape - MORE SPACIOUS for the COMPFORT of you and your guest. 3. If you think you paid for extras in advance and had to pay a small amount on spot again, please provide documentation and we are happy to refund you. Please re-consider your 1star review as we are feel this review is quite unfairly for the great charter experience you enjoyed. Kind Regards Tom YACHTICO.com Yacht Charter

made my holiday a fantastic experience, but the weather was very mixed up...

We chartered a catamaran in Croatia. Booked online, went smoothly. Trustworthy communication. Very nice lady on customer service;) The catamaran was 6 years old but didn't look like. We enjoyed the time, especially the last evening in Split. We had a fantastic week. I am looking forward to my next year holiday, maybe Ionic islands in Greece.

Dear Jim, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I’m sorry you had a less than stellar experience. We usually have excellent reviews from our customers for the excellent online booking experience along with a great customer service such as "...excellent service.." or "...I will refer Yachtico 100%..." As you know you four parties have extensively reviewed your case. Yachtico, M3, our payment processor and your credit card company have reviewed your claim. All parties decided against you and valued that the service was provided to you as expected. We worked hardly on your behalf and did our best to support you in this dispute with the local charter company. Kind Regards Tom YACHTICO.com Yacht Charter Team

Thank you so much for your wonderful 5-star review, Stan! We're thrilled to hear that you had a great experience with us. Your positive feedback means the world to our team. We look forward to serving you again soon!

I made an enquiry last week with…

I made an enquiry last week with Yachtico who were very slow to get back to me. I enquired because their Trustpilot rating was a strong 8.1. Later when I actually went to get a review, it turns out there it's only 5.9 and the review form Bob looks fake to be honest. I fail to see how a reputable company cannot keep it's reviews up to date.

Dear Brad, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I’m sorry you had a less than stellar experience. We usually have excellent reviews from our customers for the excellent online booking experience along with a great customer service such as "...excellent service.." or "...I will refer Yachtico 100%..." Brad, we feature all charter options available online on our website including prices, discounts high quality pictures and availability. The New York Times called Yachtico the "...Expedia for Yachts...". I would appreciate if you would give us a second chance and consider https://www.Yachtico.com to compare offers and great final prices for your next sailing vacation. CHARTERERS BEWARE

We chartered a Sun Odyssey 33i through Yachtico for a one week holiday around Skopelos, yacht being supplied by Sail Aegean in September 2019. When booking through Yachtico we paid a £175 full insurance and was then charged a 2,000 Euro refundable deposit on collection of the yacht by Sail Aegean. On the 4th day when anchoring in shallow water in a secluded bay the windlass unexpectedly and dangerously went into freefall and detached from it's bolts. We had to make our own passage back to an emergency mooring at Skopelos town, awaiting a new windlass and repairs. This took two days of our seven day holiday. On completion of the charter a diver examined the underneath of the boat and we were informed that the bush on the propshaft had been dislodged and we would be responsible for the repair. None of our 2000 Euro deposit would be returned until after repairs. Conveniently the repairs total 2000 Euro and no refund has appeared. Photographic evidence of the windlass and corroded bolts have been supplied and endless email exchanges. We do not believe either of these supposed "Damages" are our fault but neither Yachtico or Sail Aegean are prepared to refund our deposits or make claim against supposed "Full Insurance". Sadly, a credit card was not used to pay our deposit to Sail Aegean. Both companies have profited and cheated from us.Our patience is now exhausted. Keep away from both. The Windlass went into freefall of it's own accord, you have the photographic evidence. We have no pre charter pictures of under the yacht. I am returning the Boarding pass and booking reference stating there was yacht insurance. 29/01/20

Dear Helen, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I’m sorry you had a less than stellar experience. We usually have excellent reviews from our customers for the excellent online booking experience along with a great customer service such as "...excellent service.." or "...I will refer Yachtico 100%..." As you know you caused a boat damage during your vacation. Following industry standards and as clearly lined out in our T&C and in the booking confirmation your deposit of 2000 EUR is your maximum liability. What exceeds this amount is covered by the yacht insurance. The local charter company has shared extensive photo and video documentation about the damages along with the repair invoices. You have not booked a GBP 175 additional deposit insurance with Yachtico. If you think so, please provide the documentation and I am happy to review it and claim the deposit from the insurance company. We worked hardly on your behalf and did our best to support you in this dispute with the local charter company. Unfortunately we couldn't achieve more for you. Thank you for your patience. Was charged double for extras, no sufficient refund, no service - AVOID

Paid for extras online (dinghy, outboarder, obligatory cleaning). When arriving at the base in Corfu Greece, charter company asked to pay the extras again on site, with the promise of a refund afterward. Here, we noticed that the dinghy was included with the charter (so they charged us online which was not necessary) and we *did not get the full refund of all the extras we paid double*. After 10+ calls with customer service (they never pick up, you can only leave a voice mail). And after 20+ emails, they still refused to believe I paid double (even though I have all the receipts and everything). They now don't answer my mails, nor return my phone calls. This is theft. And the worst experience I've ever had with a booking agency. In total I paid: €292 + €220 = €512 If I had only paid the charter company it would be €220, if I had only paid Yachtico I paid €292. I paid both. It's not about the money, it's about the principle. EDIT: The answer from Yachtico 100% confirms how "customer friendly" they are. Always blaming the customer, not looking for solutions, not even willing to do the maths and calculate that the refund (€100) was not sufficient. Only after 10 phone calls and unhelpful staff I became (admittedly) inpatient, how would you be? I have never "blackmailed" to leave a bad review. I know that doesn't help since I've worked in CS for years. I leave a bad review because I don't want anyone else to have to same **** experience and after 3 months I give up. Thank you for confirming what I already knew. For everyone else: AVOID THIS COMPANY

Dear Mr. Vandewalle, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I’m sorry you had a less than stellar experience. We take your concerns seriously. Following a review with our management and our team please allow me to clarify: 1. You are not telling the truth. Even in your review you admit that you received a refund. 2. You tried to blackmail Yachtico by threatening with bad reviews. 3. You threatened our customer service team members verbally. --> These issues are not acceptable. A. We are 100% transparent. All prices are on our website and clearly disclosed during your booking process. You agreed to it. You paid exactly the price agreed. Please check your booking confirmation. B. You are claiming that you would have paid a different price for extras when you would have booked locally in the Marina. --> It's not uncommon to pay a different price on Amazon compared with in the local shop on spot. --> We usually have excellent reviews from our customers for the excellent online booking experience along with a great customer service such as "...excellent service.." or "...I will refer Yachtico 100%..." Mr. Vandevalle, we feature all charter options available online on our website including prices, discounts, high quality pictures and availability. The New York Times called Yachtico the "...Expedia for Yachts...". I would appreciate if you would give us a second chance and consider YACHTICO to compare offers and great final prices for your next sailing vacation. Kind Regards & Happy New Year! Boat rental platform Yachtico sails to US with million-euro funding

Yachtico , the Berlin-based company which claims to be the largest online platform for boat rentals, has just received a low seven-figure investment (it’s just over a million euros, we hear).

Existing investor IBB Beteiligungsgesellschaft and the Pro-FIT program of the Investitionsbank Berlin, along with unnamed private investors, contributed to the financing round.

Founded in 2011, Yachtico is headed up by Yier Erin Bargeld, Steffen Brünn, and Ron Hillmann. It sells itself as the “Airbnb of boat rentals,” though unlike the apartment rental service, Yachtico performs thorough background checks before boats are hired out; ID checks and insurance are compulsory.

Yachtico is planning on using the money to step up its U.S. expansion and improve its technology.

In a media statement, Brünn said his team sees the biggest growth potential in the U.S.:

In the U.S., we see three factors that are positive for us. There is a large coastline, along with many private and commercial boat and yacht owners. At the same time, the country has greater enthusiasm for new online offers than than other countries with less open cultures. And finally, the market is currently being fertilized with the European way of individual travel, where the trend of private rentals is already well established.

At the moment, the company claims it has 17,000 boats and yachts available for private users or charter companies. Yachtico takes a commission on each rental.

From launch, the site was available in English and German, with the site quickly gaining international interest. At the moment, more than half of its users are from Asia, New Zealand, Australia and Canada.

The next financing round is already in the works to step up the company’s marketing and push its US expansion – we’re told it will be announced soon. In July 2011, Yachtico received a six-figure seed funding round from IBB and Mediengruppe Pressedruck.
