The Sailor's Style Guide: How to Dress at a Yacht Club

If you've been invited to a casual yacht club rendezvous, you'll need the right threads to fit in.  in this guide, we'll walk you through the yacht club attire you'll need to fit in. hint: you can find the perfect outfit head to toe with castaway.

You've been invited to a meal or event at a local yacht club, but you've never been to one before. Suddenly, the panic sets in. What should you wear? Fortunately, there are lots of options and visiting a yacht club does not mean you have to spend a lot of money just to fit in. This post will give you some pointers on yacht club attire so that you feel neither under nor overdressed, and can really enjoy yourself and have a great time at the club.

Before you even think about what to wear, check to see if the yacht club you're going to has a dress code posted online. Most of them do, and the rules can vary from club to club. The Nantucket Yacht Club , for example, requires semi-formal attire for its dinners and cocktail attire including ties for men during its dinner dances and balls. The Hyannis Yacht Club goes into a little more detail. It accepts stylish casual wear including clean, neat jeans and shorts for lunch. For dinner, guests are expected to step it up by leaving the denim at home and wearing sports coats. Different areas of a club may also have different dress rules. Bars and outdoor decks tend to more lax and allow casual clothing.

Sometimes, the easiest way of narrowing down what to wear is to eliminate what you should not wear. This is just a partial list of how not to show up at any kind of yacht club unless you want to be denied admittance or receive a lot of disapproving glares. All rules listed apply to the inside of the club, and can vary for beach and dock rulings.

Flip Flops or Going Barefoot: This rule applies INSIDE the club, or for any meal time. Most people love the beach, but going barefoot is not only unacceptable, but unhygienic.

You'll want to wear appropriate footwear such as sturdy sandals or closed toe shoes. While a lot of children and adults love their flip-flops, they may be a little too casual for a yacht club atmosphere. The most popular choice here is a boat shoe style but a bridle bit driver is always appropriate - check the latest . The lightly worn leather and pencil-curled laces fit the bill in the cool department.

Torn, Stained, or Worn Clothing: Any attire that is showing signs of wear such as rips, stains that never came out, holes, missing buttons, etc. should be left at home.

Baseball Caps and Other Hats: Most yacht clubs prefer that men remove their caps when inside the venue. Save them for the sailing excursions.

Extra points on the water if you rock the Club’s Burgee on the hat!

Swimwear: Just a no-no. Save it for the boat and the beach. A cover-up can be acceptable for the patio.

Going Shirtless: Nope!

Undershirts as Shirts: See above. You may also want to be careful about choosing a t-shirt, particularly one with graphics, when visiting a yacht club. Most prefer that you wear a collared shirt, even if it's a casual one such as a polo shirt.

Tank tops for men and any tank tops for women that are skimpy and don't hide undergarments should be saved for another occasion.

Women have a lot of options when it comes to visiting a yacht club. Linen and cotton make the perfect summer blouses. A light but structured Sleeveless Top paired with a  sweater is perfect for warding off cool sea breezes when you're out on the deck. A polo or collared shirt works well for the yacht club scene as well. You can also consider a dressy blouse that has a little bit of flounce to it. If shorts are allowed for the time and area of the club you're visiting, consider sporting  Sailing  shorts  with a cute anchor embroidery. They're cool, classy, and show off just the right amount of leg. Casual skirts and dresses are perfectly fine as well as long as they're not too short and revealing. If you're attending a party at a yacht club you may need to wear a nice cocktail dress, or a classic Tunic Dress for a day event. Special events such as balls and dinner dances usually specify what is appropriate attire on the invitation.

Don't forget to have fun with accessories! A straw handbag can complete a nautical themed look.

For most casual yacht club occasions, men can't go wrong with a collared shirt and long pants or Cisco Shorts . Pastel and preppy shades such as summer green, hurricane red, and islander blue rule here.

When casual attire is allowed, collared sport or polo shirts are always in fashion. Seersucker and linen shirts are available in several colors and patterns for summer club get-togethers. If jeans are not allowed, seersucker or cotton canvas pants are still casual and comfortable yet dressy enough for all areas of a yacht club. If you really want to show your love of nautical dressing, consider wearing a fun Embroidered Pant !

Or you can opt for solid pants but add some nautical flair with an embroidered belt . Classic summer staples like Seersucker and Madras Patches will make you the talk of the Club, in a good way!

For those chilly sea breezes and evenings, a quarter zip pullover wards off the cool air while keeping you stylish and casual.

It's a good idea to keep a sportcoat and a few ties in your closet just in case the yacht club you're visiting requires it. Opt for a fun all over embroidered jacket, or a Madras Patchwork style to really up your game.

Kids' clothing should conform to the same yacht club rules as established for grown-up guests. If you really want your son to look cute, consider dressing him in the same matching outfit as dad.

Dress for Yacht Club Party: From Formal to Casual Elegance

Stepping into a yacht club is like entering a world where tradition and luxury blend seamlessly. It’s a place where the dress code matters just as much as the knots you can tie. I’ve always been fascinated by the elegance and the unspoken rules that govern these exclusive enclaves.

Navigating the yacht club dress code can be a bit like charting unknown waters. You want to fit in, yet stand out; respect tradition, yet showcase your personal style. It’s a delicate balance, but don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. From crisp linens to the perfect boat shoes, I’ll walk you through what to wear to make a splash without rocking the boat.

Understanding Yacht Club Culture

Importance of dress code in yacht clubs, essential clothing items for men and women, footwear and accessories etiquette, navigating formal vs. informal events, frequently asked questions.

When I first stepped into the world of yacht clubs, I was struck by the intricate blend of tradition and modern luxury that permeates these spaces. Yacht clubs aren’t just about boats; they’re about a lifestyle that values elegance, camaraderie, and respect for the sea. The culture within these clubs is rich with history, and understanding it is crucial for anyone looking to blend in seamlessly.

At the heart of yacht club culture is a strong sense of community. Members often share a deep passion for sailing and the ocean, which fosters a unique bond. This camaraderie is evident in the warm welcomes I’ve received and the shared stories of adventure at sea. It’s this sense of community that makes the yacht club experience so enriching.

Another cornerstone of yacht club culture is the respect for tradition. Many clubs have histories that stretch back over a century, with traditions that have been passed down through generations. From the specific flags flown to the ceremonies performed, these traditions help connect members to the storied past of their club.

Understanding the dress code is an integral part of embracing yacht club culture. The attire reflects the balance between formality and the laid-back sea lifestyle. Here’s a quick guide to help navigate through the essentials:

Formal Events Blazer, slacks, tie Cocktail dress
Casual Gatherings Polo shirt, chinos Blouse, skirt or slacks
On The Water Performance gear, shorts Performance gear, shorts

Embracing yacht club culture means more than just adhering to a dress code—it’s about immersing yourself in a lifestyle that values grace, tradition, and a shared love for the sea. As I’ve ventured through this world, my appreciation for these principles has only deepened, enriching my experiences both on and off the water.

The dress code at yacht clubs isn’t just about looking good—it’s a way to show respect for the traditions and values that these clubs hold dear. Over the years, I’ve come to understand that adhering to these attire guidelines is integral to the yachting experience, blending the elegance of sailing with a sense of belonging among members.

Yacht clubs are steeped in history, with many having been established over a century ago. As a member or guest, dressing appropriately is a nod to the rich traditions and the high standards these clubs maintain. It’s not just about the clothes; it’s about being part of a community that values grace and decorum.

At first glance, the dress code might seem daunting. However, it’s really about understanding the importance of various events and activities within the club. For example, casual attire may be acceptable during the day, while evenings often require more formal wear, especially at club dinners or special events.

To make things easier, here’s a quick guide:

Occasion Men’s Attire Women’s Attire
Daytime Casual Polo shirts, shorts, boat shoes Sundresses, blouses, sandals
Evening Formal Blazers, dress shirts, trousers Dresses, skirts, dress shoes

This guide is a starting point, but always check with the specific yacht club for their particular dress code as nuances can vary greatly.

Remember, the essence of adhering to the dress code lies not just in following rules but in embracing the lifestyle. It reflects a shared respect among members for the club’s history, traditions, and the very spirit of yachting. Walking through the club doors dressed appropriately, I always feel a stronger connection to both the past and present of the seafaring community, reinforcing that the dress code is more than attire—it’s about belonging.

When it comes to yacht club attire, both men and women must be mindful of selecting pieces that strike the right balance between elegance and comfort. It’s not just about making a fashion statement but about adhering to a tradition that has been cherished for generations. Here’s a breakdown of the must-have clothing items for men and women to ensure you’re always yacht-club-ready.

For men, the essentials are somewhat straightforward but require attention to detail. A crisp, button-down shirt is non-negotiable. Whether it’s for a casual daytime event or a more formal evening gathering, a high-quality, well-fitted shirt sets the tone. Pair it with chino shorts or trousers depending on the occasion. Here’s a quick glance at the essentials:

Button-Down Shirt Daytime & Evening
Chino Shorts Casual & Daytime
Trousers Formal & Evening
Blazers Formal Events
Boat Shoes All Occasions

For women, versatility is key. A chic, midi-length sundress serves well for most daytime activities, offering both comfort and style. For evenings, women might opt for a more structured cocktail dress. Accessories should be understated yet sophisticated, complementing the outfit without overshadowing it.

Sundress Casual & Daytime
Cocktail Dress Evening & Formal
Tailored Blazers Formal Events
Wedges or Sandals All occasions

Understanding the significance of these items isn’t just about following rules; it’s about embracing a lifestyle that respects the legacy and luxury of yachting. Dress codes at yacht clubs are more than a list of what to wear—they’re a testament to the club’s history, values, and the collective spirit of its members. By preparing your wardrobe with these essentials, you’re not just dressing for the occasion. You’re paying homage to a tradition that has been the cornerstone of yacht clubs around the world.

Selecting the right footwear and accessories is just as crucial as choosing your outfit for a yacht club event. In the world of yachting, where tradition meets contemporary luxury, every detail counts in making that impeccable impression.

When it comes to footwear , both comfort and style take the helm. For men, leather loafers or boat shoes are the gold standard, effortlessly blending with the semi-formal attire expected at most yacht clubs. Women, on the other hand, have a bit more latitude, with options ranging from sophisticated sandals to elegant wedges. The key is ensuring your shoes complement your outfit while also being practical for walking on deck.

Accessories serve as the final flourish to your yacht club ensemble. For men, a classic watch or a tastefully simple bracelet can add a touch of refinement without overshadowing the overall look. Women can elevate their outfit with statement jewelry, a stylish hat, or a chic clutch. However, remember the golden rule: less is more. It’s all about enhancing your appearance without going overboard.

Here are some quick reference tables to guide your choices:

Men’s Footwear and Accessories

Footwear Accessories
Leather Loafers Classic Watch
Boat Shoes Simple Bracelet
Footwear Accessories
Sophisticated Sandals Statement Jewelry
Elegant Wedges Stylish Hat
Chic Clutch

Adhering to a yacht club’s dress code isn’t merely about following rules—it’s about honoring a tradition that values sophistication and camaraderie among its members. By paying close attention to the nuances of footwear and accessory choices, I’m not just dressing to impress; I’m embracing a lifestyle that respects the refined and convivial spirit of the yachting community. In every piece I select, I’m mindful of the balance between personal expression and the elegance that the setting demands.

Understanding the distinction between formal and informal events at yacht clubs is paramount in selecting the appropriate outfit. Each type of event comes with its own set of expectations, which I’ll help you decode.

Formal Events

At formal events, polished elegance is the key. Men should lean towards dark suits or tuxedos , depending on the specific requirements mentioned in the invite. For women, evening gowns or sophisticated cocktail dresses are the norm. Footwear should be equally refined, with men opting for shiny dress shoes and women choosing elegant heels .

Quick Reference: Formal Attire

For Men For Women
Dark Suits/Tuxedos Evening Gowns/Cocktail Dresses
Shiny Dress Shoes Elegant Heels
Minimalist Accessories Delicate Jewelry

Informal Events

Informal events, on the other hand, allow for more personal expression while still adhering to the overarching theme of tastefulness. Here, men can opt for smart casuals like chinos paired with a crisp shirt. Women have the freedom to experiment with flowy dresses or elegant tops and skirts . Comfortable yet stylish footwear such as loafers for men and sandals or wedges for women is recommended.

For Men For Women
Chinos with Crisp Shirts Flowy Dresses or Elegant Tops with Skirts
Loafers Sandals or Wedges
Casual Watches Statement Accessories

Both settings underscore the importance of attention to detail. Accessories, whether for a formal or informal event, should complement but not overshadow the outfit. Understanding these nuances ensures respect for yacht club traditions while allowing room for individual flair.

Navigating yacht club dress codes doesn’t have to be daunting. By grasping the fine line between formal and informal attire and paying close attention to accessories, you’re well on your way to mastering yacht club chic. Whether it’s a dark suit for the men or an evening gown for the ladies at formal events or smart casuals and flowy dresses for those more laid-back gatherings, the key is to dress tastefully while allowing your personal style to shine through. Remember, understanding and respecting these dress codes is not just about fitting in—it’s about making a statement while honoring tradition. So next time you’re preparing for a yacht club event, you’ll do so with confidence and ease.

We highly recommend wearing lightweight clothes made from natural fibers like linen, tencel and cotton for your boat or yacht day trip. All of them are highly breathable, allowing air circulation and preventing you from feeling overheated in the sun or during energetic activities onboard.

In addition to this, they have great moisture-wicking properties, which means that any sweat or water on your clothes quickly evaporates, keeping you cool and dry.

While you can opt for any colors you want, light colors are especially popular in the heat of the sun, as well as nautical colors like light blue and navy, which echo the color scheme of open waters around you.

Other Essentials To Bring To A Boat Party

1. your swimsuit.

Firstly, it’s not a boat party without swimming! Don’t forget to bring your favorite bathing suit with you.

2. Suncream

It also pays to protect your skin from the sun, so pack your sunblock in your bag. A good sunblock should be at least SPF 30, since SPF 30 can block about 97% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. Make sure to reapply your suncream every 2 hours you spend in the sun for optimal protection.

3. Protective Accessories

It goes without saying, but don’t attend a boat party without a good pair of sunglasses . The sun is especially strong in the open sea as it reflects off of water, and you don’t want to spend your day squinting.

In addition to sunglasses, also consider bringing a stylish hat that protects your face and scalp. Whether you opt for a wide-brimmed hat, a floppy sun hat, a straw hat or a sporty cap, it serves as a barrier against the sun, reducing the risk of sunburn and discomfort.

4. Beach Towel

Some yachts and bigger boats will be equipped with beach towels for guests, but this is not a given. If you think you’ll be going in for a dip, pack a beach towel in your beach tote before you set off.

Now that we’ve gone over some of the best things to wear for yacht and boat parties, let’s also take a look at clothing to avoid.

What Not To Wear To A Boat Party

How you dress for a boat party is very different to what you wear on land. What looks good in a rooftop bar might not be appropriate for a yacht, so keep these things in mind when putting together your outfit:

1. High heels

Stilettos with a sharp heel are a bit of a hazard on a moving boat; not only are you less stable when wearing them, the heel itself can also get stuck in gaps or grates on the deck, which can damage your shoes.

To be on the safe side, opt for comfortable flat sandals, boat shoes, or espadrilles, or take your shoes off entirely!

If you’re attending a dressy occasion in the evening, consider wearing platform wedges that look polished but are easy to walk in.

2. Fabrics That Make You Sweat

Avoid fibers and materials like acrylic, polyester, denim, and spandex that will make you sweat, and silk, which has moisture-wicking properties, but will not hide sweat stains.

Instead, opt for breathable fibers like cotton, linen, rayon, viscose, jersey, chambray and tencel, especially if you’re attending a boat party during the daytime.

3. Skin Tight clothing (If you’re swimming)

If you know that you’ll be swimming, avoid wearing tight clothing, as there’s nothing more uncomfortable than having to put your tight clothes back on when you have wet skin. Also, what looks good dry might not look as great when it’s all soaked in water and sticking to your skin.

Opt for clothes that are loose enough that they won’t cling to you and that allow the wind’s breeze to flow through them. Alternatively, you can always bring a change of clothes if you have a tight outfit that you definitely want to wear on your boat ride.

Dressing for a Yacht Club Party

Lucky you!  You have just received an invitation for your very first yacht club party.  For most people this brings up the question “What on earth do I wear?”.  Have no fear!  We work with many yacht clubs to make sure their members look sharp with custom ties and scarves .  Here are some of our style tips to help you navigate the waters of yacht club fashion and pull together an amazing outfit.

Yacht Club Wear – Do Nots

While yacht club attire can vary by club and time of day of the event, there are certain items that just won’t do.  You should always avoid the following:

  • T-Shirts / Tank Tops
  • Revealing clothing (i.e. cut-off shirts, mini skirts, etc)
  • Wrinkled or otherwise “sloppy” attire

Also, while you may be tempted to don an ascot or jaunty captain’s hat … don’t.  For most people this will come across as cliche rather than sporty.  Classic styles, nautical colors and smart layers are the best way to go when building your dock-side ensemble.  You can also shop many of the clubs’ stores for shirts and ties embellished with the club logo.

Yacht Club Wear –  Dos

Hopefully, your invitation indicates the dress code.  But if it doesn’t, there are two general rules of thumb.  If the party is during the day, then select attire in the “country club casual” category.  If the party is in the evening, opt for traditional cocktail party wear.

Country Club Casual for Men

A classic polo or Oxford shirt is the standard for men.  Shirts should be clean, in good condition and neatly pressed.  These should be worn with black slacks or khakis.  When it comes to shoes, loafers in brown or black are the most popular choice.  A less popular but also acceptable footwear option is a pair of leather boots in black or brown.  Some yacht clubs require blazers even for daytime events.  To be safe, check the attire requirements posted on the club’s website or call them prior to the event.

Country Club Casual for Women

Just like men, polo shirts paired with well-cut slacks are an acceptable option for women.  Women can also choose a tailored blouse worn with a knee-length cotton skirt for a slightly dressier look.  Another popular ensemble is a simple summer dress with minimal accessories.  A cashmere sweater is the perfect outer layer to protect from cool breezes.  Ballet flats are the top shoe choice when dressing country club casual.

Cocktail Attire for Men

While not as formal as black-tie, cocktail wear is decidedly dressier than daytime apparel at a yacht club.  Dress slacks with a jacket and tie or a full suit are both appropriate options for an evening event.  Choose neutrals and subdued tones over bright colors or prints.  Men should accessorize with a black leather belt and matching shoes.  Stick with a loafer or Oxford style shoe and be sure your socks coordinate with your pants.

Cocktail Attire for Women

Cocktail dresses should be knee-length or midi-length in a solid or very subtle print.  If you are having a tough time finding the right color, the quintessential “little black dress” is always a smart choice.  Another popular trend for evening events is a formal women’s pant suit.  When it comes to accessorizing, less is more.  Choose a single statement piece of jewelry rather than a multitude of pieces and opt for a clutch instead of a shoulder bag.  Heels, dressy sandals, and ballet flats are all acceptable shoe options.

When it comes to “what to wear to a yacht party,” the stakes are high, as your attire not only reflects your style but also your respect for the host and the occasion.

Navigating the nuances of yacht party fashion can be a breeze with a few guiding principles in mind. From selecting the right fabrics that marry comfort with elegance to choosing outfits that resonate with the time of day and a specific theme of the event, every detail counts. This guide aims to demystify the expectations surrounding yacht party attire, ensuring you make a splash for all the right reasons. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned attendee, understanding the dos and don’ts of yacht party fashion will enhance your experience and ensure you contribute positively to the luxurious ambiance. So, let’s set the course for a deep dive into the world of yacht party etiquette, with a special focus on decoding what to wear to ensure you look your best while enjoying the high seas in style.

Understanding the Yacht Party Dress Code

Yacht party dress codes can vary from casual chic to formal elegance, depending on the occasion. It’s important to inquire about the dress code in advance to ensure your outfit is perfectly suited for the event. This proactive approach not only shows respect for your host’s preferences but also ensures you feel comfortable and confident among the other guests.

Yacht Party Dress Code

Yacht parties often reflect the personality and style of the host, meaning that each event can have its unique twist on attire expectations. For daytime events, you might find a more laid-back, nautical-inspired dress code, favoring light fabrics and vibrant colors that complement the sea’s natural beauty. Evening gatherings, however, may call for a touch of sophistication with cocktail dresses, tailored suits, or even thematic attire that aligns with the party’s motif.

When decoding the dress code, consider the location and time of year. A yacht party in a tropical locale might lean towards breezy summer dresses and linen shirts, while cooler climates could call for layered outfits that still adhere to a chic, nautical aesthetic. Accessories also play a crucial role in your ensemble; select pieces that enhance your outfit without overshadowing the event’s vibe .

Ultimately, understanding and adhering to the yacht party dress code is about finding the perfect balance between personal style and the event’s theme. It’s an opportunity to showcase your fashion sense while respecting the setting and occasion. By doing so, you contribute to the event’s overall elegance and ensure that the party remains an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone on board.

For Women: Dressing for a Yacht Party

When dressing for a yacht party, women have a myriad of stylish options that blend comfort with elegance. Here are some extended tips to ensure you look your best on the high seas:

Opt for Light Fabrics

Choosing the right fabric is crucial for staying comfortable throughout the event. Beyond cotton and linen, consider silk or chiffon for a touch of luxury that’s still breathable. These fabrics are not only ideal for maintaining comfort in the sun but also move beautifully in the sea breeze, adding a dynamic element to your outfit.

Elegant Evening Wear

Evening yacht parties often call for a step up in formality. A sophisticated cocktail dress or a chic maxi dress remains a perfect choice, with the addition of a lightweight shawl or pashmina to ward off the chill after sunset. Consider the silhouette and neckline of your dress to ensure it’s in harmony with the yacht’s setting—something that offers elegance without sacrificing comfort.

Stay Colorful

The backdrop of the sea and sky provides a perfect canvas for vibrant colors and patterns. Don’t shy away from bold prints or nautical stripes that echo the setting. Pastel shades work beautifully during the day, while jewel tones can add a rich depth to evening attire. Remember, the goal is to complement the beauty of your surroundings without overshadowing it.

Accessorize Wisely

Accessories can elevate your yacht party outfit from simple to stunning. Opt for statement pieces like a bold necklace or chic earrings to add a focal point to your look. However, it’s crucial to balance statement pieces with the overall simplicity of your outfit to maintain an air of understated elegance.

Footwear Considerations

When it comes to footwear, comfort and practicality are key. For daytime events, stylish flat sandals or espadrilles can be perfect. They offer ease of movement on deck without sacrificing style. For evening affairs, a pair of wedged heels can add elegance while still being practical for the yacht’s surfaces. Always choose non-marking soles to avoid scuffing the deck.

Final Touches

Remember, a yacht party is as much about enjoying the setting as it is about socializing. Choose outfits that allow you to move freely and enjoy the amenities offered. Whether lounging on deck, participating in activities, or dancing under the stars , your outfit should enhance your experience, not hinder it.

By keeping these extended tips in mind, women can confidently navigate the dress code for any yacht party, ensuring they look fabulous and feel comfortable from sunup to sundown.

For Men: What to Wear to a Yacht Party

Dressing for a yacht party offers men the chance to showcase their style while adhering to comfort and appropriateness for the maritime setting. Here are some extended guidelines to ensure you’re well-prepared for any yacht party.

Casual Daytime Looks

For daytime events, the key is to combine comfort with style. Alongside polo shirts, consider lightweight, breathable linen shirts that keep you cool under the sun. These can be paired with well-fitted chinos or Bermuda shorts, depending on the level of formality of the event. Choose light colors or pastels to reflect the daylight and contribute to the overall festive atmosphere.

Evening Sophistication

As the sun sets and the event turns more formal, the attire should shift accordingly. A well-tailored blazer, paired with a crisp shirt underneath, can elevate your look instantly. Opt for trousers in navy, beige, or white to maintain the nautical theme. A lightweight cashmere sweater can also be a stylish addition if the evening gets cooler, offering both warmth and sophistication.

Embrace Nautical Themes

Nautical themes offer a playful yet stylish way to dress for a yacht party. This doesn’t mean going overboard with anchor prints or sailor hats but subtly incorporating maritime elements into your outfit. Think navy blue, white, and stripes. A well-chosen accessory, such as a belt or a scarf with a nautical print, can add a touch of personality to your look without detracting from the sophistication.

Footwear Choices

Footwear is an essential aspect of your yacht party attire, blending style with function. For daytime, consider boat shoes or loafers in light colors that match well with both shorts and chinos. For the evening, you can opt for more formal shoes, like brogues or loafers in darker shades. Remember, the shoes should have non-marking soles to protect the yacht deck.

Accessories to Complement Your Look

Accessories play a vital role in completing your yacht party outfit. A stylish pair of sunglasses is a must-have for daytime events to protect your eyes and add a cool factor to your look. A classic watch can also enhance your outfit, offering functionality and elegance. Choose accessories that are understated yet refined to maintain a balance between casual and formal.

Practical Considerations

While style is important, practicality should not be overlooked. Opt for fabrics that offer breathability and comfort, as you’ll be spending time in the sun and by the sea. Additionally, it’s wise to bring a lightweight jacket or blazer for the evening, as temperatures can drop. Always consider the activities planned for the event and dress accordingly, ensuring your outfit allows for a range of motion and enjoyment of the festivities.

By following these extended guidelines, men can confidently dress for any yacht party, ensuring they strike the perfect balance between style, comfort, and appropriateness for this unique setting.

Accessorizing Your Yacht Party Outfit

When planning what to wear to a yacht party, the role of accessories should not be underestimated. They are the finishing touches that can elevate your outfit, ensuring you look polished and put-together. Here’s how to choose accessories that enhance your yacht party attire without compromising on comfort or practicality.

Yachting

Sunglasses and Hats

The right pair of sunglasses is not just a practical necessity for a day spent on the water; it’s also a style statement. Look for high-quality lenses that offer UV protection to shield your eyes from harmful rays. Frame styles can vary from classic aviators to modern wayfarers, depending on your taste and the vibe of the party.

Hats offer additional protection and can be a stylish accessory for both men and women. Women might opt for wide-brimmed hats that provide ample sun protection while adding an element of glamour. Men can consider a fedora or a Panama hat for a touch of sophistication. Remember, the goal is to complement your outfit and the occasion, so choose hats that are stylish yet functional.

Minimal Jewelry

When it comes to selecting jewelry for a yacht party, the mantra ‘less is more’ certainly applies. For women, simple, elegant pieces like a delicate necklace, a pair of stud earrings, or a thin bracelet can add a touch of sophistication without being too flashy. Men might consider a classic watch or a simple bracelet as a subtle addition to their outfit. The key is to choose jewelry that enhances your look without overpowering it or getting in the way of activities.

Practical Tips for Accessorizing

Match Your Metals : Ensure that your jewelry metals match for a cohesive look. Mixing metals can be done tastefully, but for a yacht party, simplicity often reigns supreme.

Consider the Event’s Theme : If the yacht party has a specific theme, consider accessorizing accordingly. Nautical-themed accessories can be a fun touch for events that embrace the maritime setting.

Quality Over Quantity : Choose a few high-quality pieces over a multitude of cheaper options. This not only elevates your look but also ensures your accessories withstand the elements.

Functionality is Key : Remember that you’ll be on a moving vessel, so choose accessories that won’t easily get lost or damaged. Securely fitted items are preferable to loose, dangling pieces that could catch or fall off.

By thoughtfully selecting accessories that align with the overarching theme of what to wear to a yacht party, you can ensure that your outfit is both stylish and suitable for the unique environment of a yacht. Remember, the right accessories can significantly impact your overall look, providing an extra layer of polish and sophistication to your yacht party attire.

Footwear: Choosing the Right Shoes for a Yacht

Selecting the appropriate footwear is a crucial aspect of preparing for a yacht party. The right shoes not only complement your outfit but also ensure safety and comfort as you navigate the deck. Here’s how to choose wisely:

Non-marking Soles

The primary rule for yacht footwear is to choose shoes with non-marking soles. Yachts often have delicate decking that can be easily scuffed or damaged by hard, dark soles. Look for shoes specifically designed with light-colored, soft soles that leave no traces behind. This consideration shows respect for the vessel and its owner, adhering to yacht etiquette.

Comfort is Key

While style is important, comfort takes precedence when you’re at sea. You’ll likely be standing, walking, or dancing for extended periods, so selecting shoes that offer support and comfort is essential. For women, this might mean choosing wedges or flats instead of high heels, which can be unstable on a moving boat. Men might opt for loafers or boat shoes that provide both comfort and a nautical aesthetic.

Style That Suits the Occasion

Your footwear should match the style and formality of your yacht party attire. For a more casual day event, stylish sandals, boat shoes, or espadrilles are perfectly acceptable and blend well with the maritime environment. For evening events that call for a more formal dress code, choose elegant yet practical footwear that complements your outfit without sacrificing comfort.

Slip Resistance : Besides non-marking soles, look for shoes that offer good grip and slip resistance. Boat decks can become slippery, especially if wet, so shoes with strong treads can help prevent falls and injuries.

Material Matters : Consider the material of your shoes. Leather and canvas are popular choices for yacht footwear because they’re durable and can handle the marine environment. Synthetic materials that allow for breathability and quick drying are also beneficial, especially if they get wet.

Easy to Remove : Shoes that can be easily slipped on and off are practical for yacht settings, where you might be asked to remove them before entering certain areas of the boat to prevent damage to the interior floors.

By following these guidelines for choosing the right shoes for a yacht, you’ll ensure that your footwear is appropriate, comfortable, and stylish. Remember, the best yacht party shoes strike a balance between elegance and practicality, allowing you to enjoy the festivities confidently and comfortably.

What to Wear to a Yacht Party – Your Dress Code Guide!

yacht club dress code women's

Dressing for a boat party is different than any other kind of event. While you have good times, you need to look great and most importantly, feel comfortable in your clothing. Also, you need to take some safety precautions into consideration as boats have unpredictable movements. After all, you want to have an exceptional time! Most yacht events take place in the summer, so you need to dress accordingly to the weather. What will be your event about? A Day party? A night party? In this article, you will find out exactly what to wear to a yacht party.

Table of Contents

Most parties are held during the day. You will probably spend most of your time enjoying dancing on the deck with a cocktail in your hand or swimming in the water, so you need an attire comfortable to wear and easy to pull on/off!

  • Choose a swimsuit or a bikini to wear under your clothes. Make sure to pick a color that suits your attire.
  • A flowy dress, short skirt, airy beach pants, or a short over your swimsuit will be perfect for this kind of party. You can also match them with a summary layer or a loose blouse.
  • As for the shoes, flat sandals with soft soles will get you out of trouble. High heels are an absolute no-no as they are not safe on a boat and can scratch the deck.

Accessories

  • You should be wearing sunglasses during the day, but not just any, you need polarized sunglasses to protect 100% your eyes from the UV rays of the sun
  • Try to store your stuff like sunglasses, makeup, and hair clips in a waterproof handbag. It could be useful if it gets wet!
  • Makeup Use only waterproof makeup during the day
  • Opt for a tight swimsuit if you plan to wear it under your cloth. Otherwise, there are stylish good looking swimwears that look more like dress shorts, which you can match with loose shirts and a light jacket
  • The most appropriate clothes for men are loose pants, boating shorts , and jean shorts assorted with light shirts, or polo and a loose vest.
  • Avoid flip-flops and opt for nonmarking boating shoes , like Sperry. These come in a wide variety of styles to choose from and will match any outfit. With these shoes, you can walk in complete tranquility without worrying about hurting your feet or slipping on the wet deck.
  • Opt only for a waterproof watch if you intend to wear one. You don’t want to bother taking it off, and on each time you go for a swim.
  • As mentioned for women above, the same concept applies to men. A good pair of polarized sunglasses is a must!

Night Party

In the evening, you can still wear casual clothes but a bit more dressy. The thin, soft, and flowy textile is more appropriate for night parties. Bring a light jacket with you. It gets cooler in the evening.

  • Princess waist dresses, skirt with flounces, loose pants assorted with dressy tops are the perfect choices. A chic option will be to wear a color-coordinated wrap or a jacket. A long dress harmonized with a nice pair of chandelier earrings is a great option if you opt to dress chicly
  • Here, again, avoid high heels. Flats and low-heeled sandals will be perfect and will suit any outfit.
  • Men should wear comfortable pants with a dress shirt or even a polo, and a light jacket on top.
  • I will say it again, the best shoes to wear on a boat is Sperry, but hey, this is your party, you can pick any other type of boat shoes as long as they are non-marking.
  • Girls, even if high heels elongate your legs and make you more attractive. It is preferable to avoid wearing them on a boat. Opt for boating shoes !
  • Mosquitoes love humidity, especially in the late afternoon. You should bring a repellent with you. You Never know.
  • Try to use only waterproof accessories
  • The sun beat down during the day, bring sunscreen and wear long sleeves to protect you from the sun
  • You can wear long dresses but not too long to avoid tripping.
  • If you are unsure about the type of party, ask the person that organizes the event on the yacht what is and not appropriate.
  • It’s easy to get dehydrated on a yacht because you don’t feel the sun as you are most of the time in the water or on the deck and at sea, there are always winds. PS, wear a hat and drink a lot of water!

Final Words!

Now that you know how to dress for a day and night party on a yacht, all you need to do is have a good time!

I have a yacht party to go to and I really needed this guide to make sure that I will take whatever I need. It is really easy to forget a few things and later regret once you reach the party. However, in the evening yacht parties, is it okay to wear heels?

Oh, that’s great, I am sure you’ll have fun!

Yes, I agree with you, it is easy to forget things. This is why it is important to write down what you need before you go:) Once you are on the boat, you cannot go back unless you live nearby.

You cannot wear high heels on a boat, there are few reasons to this. It is not comfortable, not safety and it can damage the deck:) You wouldn’t want this happen.

Thank you for the comment and wish you to have unforgettable moments on the yacht party!

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Daniella, I really like that you divided your article into parts like what to wear in the day or in night! And that you pay attention to both men and women is great, too! often, there are only guides for women. Keep going on as active as you are! Your website is catchy!

Thank you for the kind comment, I really appreciate:) Whats women without men and whats men without women? We can’t live without each other:), Have a wonderful day!

I have been on a yacht for a dinner party sailing in heels! It was a bit troublesome especially going up and down stairs.

Is this post geared toward Northeast US or somewhere else in the world? Here in Florida, it is absolutely okay to wear flip flops to a day yacht party as long as they aren’t cheap! Sperry’s or other boat shoes are acceptable at night for men if the rest of the outfit is semi-casual.

Thank you for the comment:)

Yes, this article concerns everyone. No matter the country. Of course, you can wear flip flops , you can even go barefoot if you wish to, but the risk of hurting your feet or slipping on the deck is much higher. Most charter companies require wearing boat shoes because if something happens and someone didn’t follow the guideline, then the company or the owner of the boat will not be covered by their assurance.

However, Sperry’ shoes are the most recommended on boats as they are comfortable and stylish.

But, again, as long as it is non-marking shoes, you are good to go!

I like how you said that the most appropriate clothes for men are loose pants. My wife and I are planning to go on a trip and we have no idea what to wear. I will definitely share this article with my wife to give her ideas of what to wear in case we go to a boat party.

Hi Dereck, This would be a great idea! I am sure your wife will find something nice to wear:) Thank you for the comment and wish you a lovely day!

Yacht Club Dress Code

Just wondering if anyone can advise what the dress code is like in the Yacht Club on MSC

Does it follow the suggested dress code of the rest of the ship or does it have a separate dress code?

Also, is the dress code on MSC still 'suggested'

The dress code on all MSC ships is advisory and is published in the daily programme. The dress code is the same throughout the ship.

The YC is not a prison you are allowed to escape and mingle with "steerage". So no worries on the dress code. Do as you want

The dress code follows the rest of the ship, however on Formal Nights the people in YC tend to dress more formally (i.e. tux for men). I felt a bit underdressed the on our first cruise in YC so the next one I took evening wear with me. However this was on European and TA cruises, I suspect that on Divina out of Miami it may be more relaxed. I think evening wear is more of a European thing?? Even so, it's nice to dressed up for these occasions.

See this thread:- http://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2430722

My experience in the YC on formal nights is somewhat different. We have sailed there three times and I haven't seen much difference in what men wear there compared to the rest of the ship. There were only a couple of tuxes, many suits and ties, some with suits and/sport jackets with open collared shirts and one or two men with jeans.

Yes, as I said, probably a more casual attitude on U.S. based cruises. Maybe the Divina should get it's own forum as it seems to differ from the other MSC ships???????

Not a bad idea. I would also like to see the Yacht Club get it's own forum. People's thoughts and reviews of the YC often differ greatly than those of the rest of the ship.

Thanks for all your comments it's good to understand. Having sailed with Royal over the last 4 years and not MSC I'm use to the very relaxed dress code on Royal

Your observation of dress 'code' in the Yacht Club tracks right along with ours.

We might have been on the same two Divina cruises this year. :)

Seperate forum for YC sounds like a great idea.

The dress in the Yacht Club whether on casual or gala evenings is no different from the rest of the ship. Jeans are fine on casual nights and suits or sport jackets the norm for the gala occasions. True formal wear is actually seen less in Yacht Club from what I saw on my two YC cruises.

Just got off the Divina this morning and I would second this post. On our Gala night's, the majority on men were in suits or sports jackets with a couple tux's and a couple of men wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

I realize I'm reactivating a year-old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one when much of this concern has been addressed. However, a part that doesn't seem to get much attention: What do women and men who book Yacht Club cabins/suites wear during the day while in the Yacht Club? For men, are dress shorts and golf shirts appropriate? Are dress shorts and t-shirts okay? I've seen a number of photos in which men are wearing slacks and button-down shirts. While I certainly don't want to stand out for under-dressing, I'd hate to make myself conspicuous by over-dressing. Plus, I'll be on vacation, so a break from a daytime suit-and-tie will be great!

Also, our cabin is 15021. How will we get up to The One pool deck? Is there an elevator, or will we be taking stairs from the Yacht Club? Is it okay to pass through the Club wearing swim trunks and a t-shirt on the way to the pool?

Really no different from the rest of the ship. Shorts and T shirts are fine for daytime.

From your cabin to the One Pool Deck is easy peasy, walk down the hall and just outside of the Concierge is the elevator up to One Pool (or down to the Spa). Only goes from Deck 14 to Deck 18 for Yacht Club passengers.

It's the same but you don't have to follow it.

I wholeheartedly agree. Why take up the time of others looking for info. It should be a sub-category.

DH wore sorts and t shirts during the day. If you are sailing from Miami the dress standard is considerably more casual, even in the evenings than on European sailings.

We have a 7-day cruise on the Seaside leaving next Saturday, 13 April 2019, and we're staying in the YC. I really don't want to pack anything formal (sport coats, ties, etc.) Is it really a necessity on a Caribbean cruise?  We can go to specialty restaurants on formal nights without formal attire I assume. The dress code would apply only to main dining rooms whether in YC on main part of ship. Correct me if I'm wrong. TIA

No, you do not need formal clothes in the YC or any place else for that matter. Based on my experience in the YC last December, I did not feel out of place wearing the same type of clothes any of seven nights. I did take a tie just encase we decided to get our picture taken. I wore it the last formal night, at least it did not take much room to pack.

Agree,,,, If you dress smart casual... you will blend right in with the majority of YC diners. On our cruise last year...we saw a man walk in on 2 different nights in shorts!!! So literally no dress code enforcement.

Shorts - really? The audacity of some people. I am truly mortified by the thought of seeing someone in shorts in a dining room.

Beamafar

Depends on the ship, the asst m'D and the itinerary - I've seen men turned away when wearing shorts.  DH was refused entry to TSL last year on Splendida when wearing shorts - it was only shortly after 6pm!

Beam...I'm sure this is more of a European /med cruise which tend to be more formal. Caribbean cruises you can pretty much dictate what you want to wear. . I have found this on all lines I've cruised stateside

Actually, it was a repositioning cruise where temperatures were hotter than average Caribbean ones.

I did advise that it  "depends on itinerary", in fairness, IC.

I'm not disagreeing.... Sadly it is under control of the cruiseline..but most dining room staff tend to ignore and not enforce questionable attire.

1 hour ago, lcpagejr said: Beam...I'm sure this is more of a European /med cruise which tend to be more formal. Caribbean cruises you can pretty much dictate what you want to wear. . I have found this on all lines I've cruised stateside

On our recent Caribbean in Preziosa YC we were very surprised at the formality of dinner dressing on both Elegant nights. Many, probably about 25%, men wore Tuxedos and another 25% were in suits. Most of the remainder, like me, wore long sleeve shirts with dress trousers. The ladies, as ever, at least complemented their partners in level of dressing and often exceeded. Not a single guest in the YC restaurant 'dressed down' on any night....by that I mean the minimum was a collared short sleeve shirt, and chinos or equivalent.

OK, it wasn't 'stateside' as such because the cruise commenced and ended in Barbados and remained in the Caribbean throughout. The mix of passengers was largely European, many British (500 passengers) and a smaller number of Americans.

We were just on and the norm was slacks and shirt for men and dress or slacks for women.  Fancy nights people spruced it up a bit.  Saw one tux and the guy was cranked with pictures of people in shorts at dinner.  Imo shorts not appropriate but I'm not going to get cranked about it.  I was just happy Octomom wasn't on letting her kids run around dining room during dinner.

What Should I Wear to a Yacht Party?

The date is set, and your RSVP is confirmed. And you’ve likely spread the word that you’ll soon be attending a party on a yacht in Marina del Rey (because why wouldn’t you?).

But the question still remains…What do you wear?

At FantaSea Yachts, we often hear this from clients hosting an event aboard one of our luxury yachts. Our answer is simple – it depends on the party and the time of day. We’ve compiled a few tips to jumpstart your yacht party inspo board.

What do I wear to a daytime yacht event?

When the sun is out, it’s a great time to play on the water. We’ve planned countless celebrations – brunches, lunchtime events, and casual cruises – for different groups during the day. All guest attire tends to be similar. Breezy. Light. Think linen pants or jackets, flowing dresses, polo or oxford shirts… relaxed but stylish. This is your chance to dress differently than your normal attire; leave the jeans, t-shirts, leggings, and board shorts at home, and impress your fellow partygoers with a well-put-together outfit. It never hurts to sport a nautical-themed look (navy stripes and gold accents, included) to pay homage to the setting. Don’t think of it as gimmicky – it’s part of the fun! If you’re looking for nautical inspiration, check out this article, 12 Ultra Cute Ways to Wear Nautical-Inspired Clothes.

For daytime yacht parties, we recommend flat shoes, strappy sandals, low wedges for the ladies, and a pair of classic loafers for the gentlemen.

What do I wear to a nighttime yacht party?

Whether it’s a boat wedding , milestone bash , or company party , nighttime yacht parties are always magical. From twinkling lights to starry skies, the moment you step onto one of our rooftop sky decks prepared to be WOWED. And that in itself is more than enough reason to dress up extra special.

Nighttime parties are great for cocktail dresses and semi-formal attire. Ladies, you don’t want to wear anything too long to avoid someone stepping on your dress or your shoe getting caught on the fabric. Go for comfortable glamor. If you opt for a cocktail dress, make sure the length is appropriate. Have fun accessorizing with statement jewelry and your favorite clutch or small shoulder bag (avoid a large tote or purse for an ultra-chic look).

For men, simplicity is the name of the game. Unless the event calls for formal attire, steer away from a tuxedo. Top options include a classic suit, dress slacks with a nice blazer and tie, or dress slacks with a sports coat and tie. Not sure what the difference is between a suit jacket, blazer, and sports coat? This Jos.A.Bank article breaks it down .

Of course, if your celebration is a yacht wedding , that will bring into account a more specific set of dressing dos and don’ts. Often formal attire will be the norm, but you should always ask your friends who are hosting their wedding on a yacht to see if the ceremony and reception is formal or casual.

Similarly, if the affair is a birthday yacht rental , then check with the hosts to learn if they are planning a unique theme that would require a specific fashion statement.

What should I always take to a celebration on a  yacht?

There are two stand-out answers to this question: A light sweater or jacket (it’s always cooler on the water), and your favorite pair of sunglasses. Other considerations include sunscreen, a fashionable hat, hair ties (in case it’s too breezy), and lip balm or chapstick. People often ask if motion sickness medication is needed. Our answer is no. The great thing about our cruises is that we stay in the Marina del Rey harbor and don’t go past the breakwater. This eliminates any wave activity (there are NO waves), which makes for an easy, smooth ride. There is virtually no risk of seasickness or motion sickness cruising these calm waters.

What not to wear to a yacht party?

This may seem obvious, but high heels or stilettos are probably the least popular accessory on ANY yacht cruise – day OR night. We also recommended avoiding super casual flip-flops as the look can appear sloppy.

If you’re looking for more inspiration, check out these articles that will help you finesse your party style… anchors aweigh!

FAQ for Yacht Party Attire Essentials

1. what essentials should i bring to a yacht party.

Always bring a light sweater or jacket, as it tends to be cooler on the water, and your favorite sunglasses. Other useful items include sunscreen, a fashionable hat, hair ties, and lip balm. Motion sickness medication is generally not needed for our smooth Marina del Rey harbor cruises, which experience no wave activity

2. Are there any specific accessories I should bring to a yacht party?

Yes, essential accessories for a yacht party include a light sweater or jacket, as it can be cooler on the water, and sunglasses. Additionally, consider bringing sunscreen, a fashionable hat, hair ties, and lip balm. Avoid large bags; a small clutch or shoulder bag is ideal.

3. What types of shoes are appropriate for a yacht party?

For yacht parties, choose flat shoes, strappy sandals, or low wedges for women, and classic loafers for men. Avoid high heels or stilettos, as they are impractical on a yacht, and steer clear of casual flip-flops for a more polished look.

Yachty by Nature

Yacht rock outfits, yacht rock outfits 101.

Whether you just discovered the art of smooth or been digging smooth soft rock for a while now, the subject of Yacht Rock Outfits is on your mind. Let me just say, for those about to dock, we salute you. There is an unmistakable moment when Yacht Rock is revealed to you. For me, it happened at a fancy industry party in LA. This fab girl came up and mic dropped it so smoothly to my then 80’s band, Neon Nation , saying “you guys play any yacht rock”? Holy crap, I pretty much spit out my drink and fell to the floor wondering what I was in for.

“You walked in to the party, like you were walking onto a yacht.”

Yachty Attire

The rest is history and I’m now well into 7 years of playing keyboards in a nationally successful yacht rock band, Yachty by Nature . No doubt, I’m living that dream and it goes without saying, I’m deep in the yacht myself. With weekly yacht party after monthly yacht wedding and more, I’m becoming a Yacht Attire expert in thought and practice and already guiding the band and others in this area of fashion.

Truly, if you get the clothing right, enough people with that common goal, just add yacht music and the fun ensues. Truth be told, I’ve watched as a room full of punk rockers that committed to the groovy, eclectic yacht rock dress code transformed like you wouldn’t believe.  They turned a simple celebration with a yacht rock band into a full scale 1978 throwback LOVE FEST and the clothes were off the hook. The energy, the vibe, the clothes, the music became something so magical all its own. Build the yacht and they will sail to it.

So, next time you are having a yacht party or watching your favorite yacht rock band indulge yourself with an epic outfit that will make all it happen. It’s not just the music, the band, the vibe, the look, the energy. It’s the sum of its parts and those smooth outfits have the mighty power to transfix your situation.

The Captain’s Hat…

hefner yacht rock outfits attire clothes fashion yachty by nature

Yep, you guessed it, the fastest coronation to yacht rock royalty is the Captain’s Hat.  Buy one, make one, bedazzle one or borrow one. In fact, the sky is the limit here so let your creativity reign if you are gonna go for it.  But, just get one somehow, some way and you are on the yacht. In fact, Broner makes a very comfortable, quality, straightforward and good looking hat that fits well.  Additionally, it avoids the cheap fit and look of those basic hats on Amazon. Do yourself a favor, get a hat or dig deep in the vault and find a classic, vintage, or authentic captain’s hat online. Additionally, we’ve seen some pretty cool and unique creations out there, but for simplicity, fit, and value, Broner is the answer.  Lastly, remember what Hefner did for the captains hat!

Yacht Rock Stripes get it done…

No matter what color, stripes will be the 2nd easiest way to begin your yacht fashion transformation. Put on a red and white striped shirt (or blue or black mainly) and you’ll be sailing in no time. In fact, stripes are probably the #1 most sighted outfit at a yacht rock party. Just know that it’s only the start. When you accessorize over the stripes with a complementary pant color or scarf, ascot, belt, and obviously the captain’s hat or more, you’ve earned your captain’s bars quicker than you can say Ship Shape! Don’t forget to keep it simple, too much or conflicting stripes will sink that ship just as fast.

Due to the strong connection between the silly, the goofy, the fun and the yacht party, going retro will set a course for adventure. Call it the Ron Burgundy effect or just throwing back to the 1977 duds they wore on Midnight Special , this look is uber sexy and may attract the opposite sex faster than any other yacht look. In fact, you don’t have to look too far to find polyester or denim clad jean meat at many yacht rock concerts. Additionally, the fake mustache works wonders whether you go 70’s vintage or any different yachty outfit.  More importantly, get bonus points on your yacht rock outfits if you can get the feathered hair going!  Polyester, print shirts, and for the ladies, buy that disco dress and some fabulous glasses and you’re ready to yacht!

The Yacht Club, Tennis Club, Golf Club…

Think Caddyshack, Marina del Rey, golfing, the harbor, and tennis. Moreso, put a tennis sweater over that polo or even better go up the ladder and put on that navy blue blazer with an ascot and some yellow glasses. Actually, that’s the calling card for us in Yachty by Nature! Pretend that you’re christening the Flying Wasp or dropping anchor with Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack and you’ll be flying indeed. Or even better, watch Caddyshack to get in the mood for your party and let inspiration take hold…and even a few classic movie lines. In fact, if you look around the golf club or yacht club scenes, your creativity is sparked immediately.  The outfits jump right off the screen and wreak of Yacht Club greatness.  Speaking of movies, we’ve even seen a die hard Yachty arrive in the Goldie Hawn outfit from the movie Overboard. Keep your yacht rock outfits classy San Diaaaaaago!

Go Hawaiian on your Yacht Rock outfits…

yachty hawaiian shirt attire clothing clothes wear suit uniform costume

Get Nauti !

Lastly, this category is a catch all for everything nautical, yachty, and seaworthy.  Use your imagination or stick to the basics.  You can don the captain’s outfit with shoulder bars easily for the Love Boat vibe.  Or, you can just look like Charlie’s Angels coming off a yacht in 1978.  Literally any type of ocean, beach, seaside, or otherwise yachty type of clothing will do.  The scarf around the neck, the boat shorts and the Nantucket red pants and plaid shirt all qualify as supremely yachty fashion.  When in doubt, check yourself by asking, “would I wear this outfit in the summer in Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard?”  Most importantly, if the answer is yes, you are yacht rock camera ready.  In fact, let’s not forget the boat shoes, deck shoes, or Sperry Top Siders all together.

Yacht Rock Outfits Wildcard…

Never forget that there’s really no authority on this subject so you can always just go for it.  Sometimes, the more uniform, standard, and strict we get on the yacht, the more mundane we become.  Therefore, don’t be afraid to dive into the vanity t-shirt, go stripes and ascot, and generally mix it up.  There are no hard and fast rules behind the Yacht Rock outfit, just your creativity and passion for the music.  From experience, we’ll go captain’s outfit one day and crazy boat shirt the next.  Ultimately, we’ve seen it all from the stage and relish the moments when people go wild with it.  In fact, there’s probably even a yacht rock adjacent area for the Pirate Party as well.  Captain Crunch sightings aside, those parties can really bring together the nauti, yachty, knotty by nature and then some.  In the end, go for it and see what happens.  It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eyepatch.  Honestly, it’s all about the fun so get Kraken!!!

As always, let the vibe be your guide.  Thus, for your next yacht rock themed party, concert, or just a Yachty night on the town, get your ensemble going.  Whether you are new to the yacht or an old deck hand, that outfit will crank up the experience.  So, commit to making that statement with your yacht clothing or up your game and improve on the garb you already have.  As we well know, you can never have enough options to mix it up for a fun night with Yachty by Nature or some other occasion.

Happy to be your guide here.  Feel free to comment and add some great ideas on this post or on social media. #yachtrock #yachtrockoutfits #yachtybynature #yachtattire #yachtrockfashion

Thanks for giving props to Tiki Caliente! I would like to point out that the most proper Hawaiian shirt to wear to a Yacht Rock concert is one that would have been for sale between 1978 and 1983! Think to yourself, would Magnum PI or Pablo Cruise wear this? And if so, bring it on! Most Magnum PI kind of Hawaiian shirts go great with a white jacket and white shorts. Vintage late ‘70s and early ‘80’s Hawaiian shirts can be found Online in Etsy yacht rock shops, and on eBay. Not expensive, and so ”vintage smooth”. Look like a pro, and be “era appropriate”. Girls can find vintage 70’s nautical dresses on Etsy, too!

THIS is everything!!! I love it Carl!!!

Ahoy Jenny! THanks so much for the kind compliment 🙂 As you know, we’re super inspired and love switching up the outfits, attire, clothing, and costumes. Yacht Rock rules!

History of Ryazan Oblast

According to archaeological excavations, the first people settled in what is now the Ryazan region in the Upper Paleolithic (15 - 25 thousand years ago). The first known inhabitants of this area were the tribes of Finno-Ugric group: Mer, Ves, Muroma, Meshchera, Mordvinians and others, who gave a lot of preserved to this day geographical names.

The Slavic tribes moved to the east at the end of the 1st millennium AD. The tribes of Vyatichi and Radimichi settled in the upper and middle reaches of the Oka River. Over time, these lands came under the control of the Kiev principality. Further expansion of the Slavs to the east was stopped by the Kama Bulgars.

According to the latest archaeological data, the town of Staraya (Old) Ryazan was founded in the 10th century (about 50 km south-east of the present Ryazan). The town of Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky was first mentioned in 1095.

In the 13th century, the Ryazan Principality, with its core in the middle reaches of the Oka, extended south to the Voronezh and Don rivers.

Despite the vast territory of the region and mixed composition of the population, it was gradually exposed to the Christianization, a lot of churches and monasteries were built. In the 12th century, Olgovsky Assumption Monastery was founded (the present village of Lgovo) - one of the oldest monasteries in the North-Eastern Russia.

More Historical Facts…

In 1237, Staraya Ryazan, the capital of the principality, was destroyed during the Mongol invasion. After that, its place in the principality was gradually taken by Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky, which, later, inherited the name of the former capital.

The rise of the Ryazan Principality is usually associated with Prince Oleg Ivanovich (1350-1402), who, with varying degrees of success, competed with the Moscow princes. His descendants were not so successful in opposing Moscow and the Ryazan principality ceased to exist in 1521 and became part of the Moscow Principality.

In the 16th-17th centuries, the Ryazan region, being the southern boundary of the Russian state, suffered from frequent devastating raids of nomads. Ryazan guberniya (province) of the Russian Empire was established by the decree of Catherine II in 1778. The town of Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky, the administrative center of the province, received a new name - Ryazan.

In the 18th century, metallurgy (iron foundries, needle factories), textile (cloth, rope, linen factories) and leather industries appeared in the region. In the 19th century, coal mines, cement, brick, tile, match factories were opened. In the north of the province, there were several glass factories.

In the southern districts of the province, agricultural processing industry was developed. Construction of railways, along with the traditional and already well-developed river navigation, was essential for the development of the regional economy.

In 1929, almost the entire territory of the Ryazan region became part of Moscow Oblast. In 1937, a separate Ryazan Oblast was formed. During the Second World War, only the south-western districts of the region (Mikhailov, Skopin) were occupied by the German troops.

In the post-Soviet period, an outflow of population from Ryazan Oblast has begun (due to the proximity to Moscow). In 1991-2015, the population of the region decreased by more than 200 thousand people.
