Best time of the year to Sail

Mallorca has a typically Mediterranean climate with winters that do not get too cold and summers that that can become very hot. However, once you are out on the ocean, the temperatures remain comfortable all year round, with temperatures only dropping to 14� C in the middle of the winter.

Sailing is at its best between April and October, as this is when the island experiences its very best weather. The most popular vacation months are July and August, and you may find it a little overcrowded then. If you have the option, come just before July/August or just after and still enjoy great weather but also avoid the crowds.

Unless you have a vast amount of experience or a nautical license, then you may find it best to charter a boat with a skipper. This will be an experienced sailor with the relevant qualifications and in-depth knowledge of local waters. These guys can be worth their weight in gold and can make your vacation that much more relaxing, dealing with all the tiresome chores.

The Costs of Chartering in Mallorca

There is an excellent choice of boats to hire on the island, but obviously, at times of high demand (the peak months), prices will rise, just as off-season they will drop. If cost is a factor, choose your time to visit. W can also advise you on the optimum type of boat to charter, one that meets your needs but also where you are paying the best possible price. I hate quoting prices, but here is a simplified guide to typical rates.

Another factor is that you must book your charter well in advance to get the best deals. Mallorca is an increasingly popular destination, and you should be talking to us as early as you can. For a summer booking, you should begin planning in the previous year, perhaps as early as October.

What sort of boat to charter.

Choosing the best type of boat to charter is a big decision. We have vast experience in planning charters and understanding which boats work best for our clients. We can work with you and advise you on the perfect boat for your needs, answering any questions you have, and ensuring that you are not paying more than is necessary. If looking for a catamaran you need to be starting your search the previous year, sailboats, late the previous year and the first month or two after Christmas, and motorboats as early as you can, but you can get away with booking a little later

We are perhaps the most flexible people to talk to about chartering a boat in Mallorca. Charters can be from as little as a day or weekend through to a weekly charter or even longer. We don't just operate from Palma (like some others) but have boats located in several ports on the island. That's our job, putting together the optimum package according to your specific needs, and without wanting to be boastful, we have to say that we are very good at it!

Palma is the capital of Mallorca and is a place that you can not afford to miss if you enjoy a lazy pavement cafe culture, with beautiful Spanish style architecture in the day and a fantastic nightlife when darkness falls when the mid-afternoon heat is at its highest, its time to take a Siesta ready for the best time of the day, the cooler late afternoon and evenings, where the city comes to life.

Spending time at one of Mallorca's famous beaches is a must, and the best beaches you should not miss are  Cala Mesquida Beach  and  Cala Torta.

Cala Mesquida Beach has an expanse of white sandy shoreline (stretching 300 meters) and an extended length of shallow waters that seem to stretch forever, with crystal clear waters.

Cala Torta has a wide beach, which makes it ideal for beach sports, such as beach volleyball. Just watch if you don't want to participate. It is also suitable for picnics and family activities.

Royal Charterhouse in Valldemossa

Mallorca has been a favorite of Europeans for many years, and the 14th Century Royal Charterhouse (a former royal residence, then monastery) has had many famous guests, including the famous composer, Frederic Chopin. Enjoy the panoramic view from the terraces and the stunning architecture.

Port de Sóller

One of the popular destinations for tourists is Port de Sóller, where the central plaza where there are frequent street performances and opportunities to enjoy Tapas and other local cuisines. Experience the idyllic south-east coast of Mallorca on a charter yacht on a 120-nautical-mile tour through picturesque bays and harbors

This relaxed trip of around 120 nautical miles will take you on your charter yacht to the most beautiful bays in the southeast of the Balearic main island. The varied mix of harbors and bays means that there is something for everyone. This cruise is also suitable for families.

Takeover of the yacht in the Marina La Lonja in Palma

Our team from Yates Mallorca Charter awaits you for the handover of your chartered sailing yacht, motor yacht or catamaran in the Marina La Lonja , directly opposite the old town and the imposing cathedral of Palma. In our reception office there we welcome you on normal charter Saturdays from 12:00 noon for a detailed check-in in German, English or Spanish.

From the airport you can easily reach us by cab in about 15 minutes. Of course you can also take the bus, line 1 from the airport will take you almost to our doorstep.

If your flight lands before 12 h, you can leave your luggage on the jetty and there are several cafés and bars in the immediate vicinity where you can enjoy the sun, have a coffee and breakfast. Or use the time to shop for provisions and stroll through the Santa Catalina district to stock up on fruit, vegetables, fresh fish and meat at the market of the same name.

Of course, you can also order your provisions from us in advance using a shopping list. Your order will then be delivered to the ship on time. You will automatically receive the shopping list 4 weeks before the start of the cruise, when we start planning the details of your journey.

However, a visit to the Mediterranean Santa Catalina market is always worthwhile. The colorful hustle and bustle, the many cafés and the delicacies on offer immediately create a vacation feeling.

You have taken over your charter yacht, stowed your luggage and provisions, then it’s either “ cast off ” and off to the next bay, or you can enjoy the cultural and culinary diversity in the beautiful historic old town of Palma at your leisure.

Our charter guests can use the berth in Marina la Lonja free of charge during the entire charter period. There is therefore no hurry.

Families can relax and let off steam in the nearby parks – Parc de Sa Feixina and Parc de la Mar – with large playgrounds in the shade. A true oasis is the medieval S’Hort del Rey , the King’s Garden, just a few minutes’ walk from our charter base. The Mediterranean trees provide shade and the many fountains and sculptures make this place a real gem with popular photo opportunities.

For all those who prefer to go out to sea, for example, there is the between 01.06.-30.09. Cala Blava buoy field is a good stopping point just a few nautical miles from our harbor in Palma. However, it is necessary to reserve a buoy in advance.

from PALMA to SA RÁPITA (approx. 25 nautical miles)

You sail eastwards along the coast. The beautiful bays and sandy beaches of Mallorca begin behind the cliffs of the Bay of Palma. Perhaps take a detour to one of the many anchorages for swimming and snorkeling. The harbor of Sa Rapita offers many guest berths on the inside of the breakwater or distributed in the harbor basin. Several bars and restaurants with beautiful terraces and views of the island of Cabrera, as well as small stores are within walking distance. If you have forgotten something when stocking up on provisions in Palma, you can fill up at the local supermarket. If you don’t want to go into the harbor, you can also anchor right next door in front of the beautiful shallow natural sandy beach of Es Trenc , weather permitting. Es Trenc stretches for about a mile between the villages of Sa Rápita and Colónia de Sant Jordi . It can get a little uncomfortable in strong thermals, but otherwise the turquoise blue water and white sand invite you to linger and give you that Caribbean feeling.

from SA RÁPITA to PORTOCOLOM (approx. 25 nautical miles)

After a delicious breakfast on board or in one of the numerous bars, it’s time to set sail or start the engine and head past the Calas Fantasticas , the bays of the cliff coast, on past Porto Pedro and Cala D’Dor to Portocolom . You should make time for a short stopover in one of the calas, for example in Cala Mondragó . Picturesque scenery and sea lights in every conceivable shade of azure are on offer. Mallorca’s east is more than blessed with these calas.

The harbour bay of Portocolom welcomes you with its colorful boathouses in the southwest. The Porto Colom marina is only small, but fortunately there is a large buoy field. The village of Portocolom with its former trading port has retained its old charm around the old town center. Many old Mallorcan fishing boats, so-called Llauts, can still be found and admired here. There are numerous culinary highlights, trendy bars and restaurants for every budget to discover along the bay and in the town.

from PORTOCOLOM to PORTO CRISTO (approx. 10 nautical miles)

Today’s route to Porto Cristo again takes you past many picturesque bays and turquoise waters. One of these is Cala Barcas , for example. The turquoise waters of the bay, the white sandy beach, the cliffs and the rock arch that has become a landmark offer a fantastic panorama and invite you to relax and swim. Nearby is also the enchanting little bay of Cala Falcó , with a wonderful sandy beach, clear water and shady spots. Perfect places for a perfect day on board your charter yacht.

Porto Cristo has everything yachties could wish for in a Mediterranean harbor town. The harbor is enclosed by the cliffs like a fjord and is therefore well protected. The range of moorings and infrastructure for sailing yachts, motor yachts and catamarans is excellent, there is a large selection of good bars and restaurants and the long promenade invites you to take a stroll. End your day ashore in this beautiful ambience.

from PORTO CRISTO to CALA FIGUERA (approx. 15 nautical miles)

We head west along the coast again. Cala Figuera , Mallorca’s smallest marina, should definitely be booked in advance due to the limited number of berths available. The attractive fishing port has a very special charm and there is still a particularly relaxed atmosphere about this old fishing village, which should definitely be explored on foot. You can still watch the fishermen mending their nets over a cool beer in one of the bars and the fresh catch is offered for consumption in the pubs. You can’t get fresher Mallorcan fish on your plate.

from CALA FIGUERA to CABRERA (approx. 15 nautical miles)

On the way westwards with your charter yacht towards Cabo Salinas , the southernmost tip of Mallorca, you will once again pass the Calas Fantasticas , which are well worth a stopover. These include Cala Santanyi and Cala Llombards , for example. Cala Caragol is not to be missed. The beach of the so-called Snail Bay is somewhat remote by land and surrounded by nature. The anchorage there consists of sand and seaweed and is about 5 meters deep. An ideal destination to unwind and put your feet in the warm sand.

However, you should arrive at today’s destination, the natural harbor of Cabrera , between 5 and 6 p.m. at the latest. One of the 50 buoys must be reserved in advance on the Internet. If you do not have a reservation, the nature park staff will ask you to leave the harbor bay in the evening, even if there are still buoys available. Anchoring is not permitted anywhere in the national park. The buoy reservation can be made a maximum of 20 days before the desired mooring date and in the high season a maximum of 1 overnight stay per ship and week is released by the system.

The unspoiled and protected island itself can be reached from the buoy with your own dinghy and it is well worth it. Cabrera , the goat island, is a natural paradise. Above all, the landscape and the wealth of plants and animals enchant every visitor. You won’t find any wild goats there, but there are plenty of birds, insects and lizards. Cabrera has also played a role in history over the centuries, for example as a refuge for pirates, a monastery, an internment camp and a military base. It is still a restricted military area today, so some areas are closed and there may be restrictions. There is a small restaurant with drinks and simple snacks. If you visit the blue grotto, Cueva Azul , by dinghy at midday, you will experience a magnificent play of colors when the sun enters the grotto and the sea is reflected on the walls. As soon as the sun goes down, you can enjoy the most beautiful starry skies in and around Cabrera.

from CABRERA to PALMA (approx. 30 nautical miles)

The last day of your boat tour on the south-east coast of Mallorca has begun. Depending on the weather and your taste, you have the option of enjoying Cabrera in peace for the rest of the morning or you can head for the rocky gorge of Cala Pi in the south of Mallorca on the way back to Palma, for example. The bright and well-kept sandy beach offers fantastic water conditions for swimming or snorkeling.

Around 5 p.m. your charter yacht will arrive in its home port of Palma, Marina La Lonja . Please do not forget to empty the waste tanks beforehand and fill the fuel tanks at the filling station.

After our team has received you and the yacht at the jetty, the technical inspection follows and the divers come by to inspect the hull and keel. So that we can check the yacht quickly, it is essential that you tidy and clear up the cockpit, deck, saloon and cabins.

After the inspection, you can enjoy a final dinner in one of the many trendy restaurants in Palma’s old town. Sit back with a beer or a glass of wine, look at your vacation photos and videos from the past week and review your boat trip. Until 8:00 a.m. the next morning, when you leave the yacht cleared and swept clean with washed dishes, emptied trash cans and all your belongings, you can use the yacht in our harbor for the night.

The 533.14ft /162.5m Custom motor yacht 'Eclipse' was built in 2010 by Blohm + Voss. Terence Disdale is responsible for her beautiful exterior and interior design.

Eclipse's interior layout sleeps up to 36 guests in 18 staterooms, 17 VIP staterooms. She is also capable of carrying up to 92 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience. Timeless styling, beautiful furnishings and sumptuous seating feature throughout her living areas to create an elegant and comfortable atmosphere.

She is built with steel hull and aluminium superstructure This custom displacement yacht is equipped with an ultra-modern stabilization system which reduces roll motion effect and results in a smoother more enjoyable cruising experience. She features ‘at anchor stabilisers’ which work at zero speed to increase onboard comfort at anchor and on rough waters. With a cruising speed of 20 knots, a maximum speed of 21.5 knots and a range of 6000nm from her 1000000litre fuel tanks, she is the perfect combination of performance and luxury.
