Baglietto sailing yacht Sincerity takes starring role in Johnnie Walker filmA recent promotional film for Johnnie Walker’s premium Blue Label whisky sees Baglietto’s beautiful classic sailing yacht Sincerity take a starring role. Also starring Hollywood icons Jude Law and Giancarlo Giannini, ‘The Gentleman’s Wager’ opens on the two men enjoying drinks aboard the 28.9 metre yacht’s sun deck while she cruises in the British Virgin Islands . “I want to buy this boat,” Law says to Giannini who plays the yacht’s owner. “Built in 1928 by the renowned Baglietto yard in Varazze, Italy. There’s nothing like it anymore, rarer than rare. It’s not for sale,” comes the reply. The owner, however, seems to be a gambling man and can’t resist Law’s bet that he can win the yacht with a dance. Returning to London, where it becomes evident that he does not know how to dance, Law does everything in his power to produce a spectacle worthy of this stunning vessel. The result is a chic routine set to classy jazz tune the Madison Time by Smith & Elms and performed by Law (in a tailor-made suit lined in Johnnie Walker-blue silk, of course) alongside a troupe of professional female dancers in vintage-style costumes. Law is, of course, successful and the film closes with Giannini trying to win back the yacht with the promise of a story – but will it be good enough for him to regain his beloved Baglietto? To celebrate the film Johnnie Walker has also devised The Gentleman’s Wager – the perfect cocktail for Christmas in the Caribbean . To try it for yourself simply follow the recipe below: Ingredients 45ml Johnnie Walker Blue Label 10ml Pedro Ximénez sherry 5ml Poire Williams Eau de Vie (dry) 3 drops Peychauds Bitters Build all the ingredients into a bespoke whisky tumbler over one cube of ice and gently stir. Billionaire Yacht Was Piloted Recklessly Before Deadly Sinking, Its Builder Warns"everything that has been done reveals a very long sum of errors.". The builder of the sunken superyacht owned by British billionaire Mike Lynch, who died with six others after the vessel went down earlier this week , is blaming an "endless chain of errors" for the maritime disaster. Flying under a British flag, the 184 foot Bayesian was built in 2008 by Italian builders Perini Navi and should've been "unsinkable" had proper procedures been followed, argues Giovanni Costantino, CEO of the Italian Sea Group, which owns the yacht manufacturer. "Everything that has been done reveals a very long sum of errors," Costantino told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview, as translated by People . "The people should not have been in the cabins, the boat should not have been at anchor. And then why didn't the crew know about the incoming disturbance?" Red Sky at MorningAn investigation into the sinking is ongoing. It's believed that a small waterspout , or a waterborne tornado, struck the vessel as it was anchored off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, around 5 am local time on Monday, according to CNN . At some point after encountering the fierce winds, the ship's towering mast — the second tallest aluminum mast in the world — snapped, before the vessel appears to have capsized and sank with 22 people on board. Costantino argues — pretty bluntly, we have to say — that the crew and passengers should've anticipated the stormy conditions. "The passengers reported an absurd thing, namely that the storm came unexpected, suddenly," he said in the interview, per People . "It's not true. Everything was predictable. I have the weather charts in front of me here. Nothing came suddenly." "Ask yourself, why was no fisherman from Porticello out that night?" he added. "A fisherman reads the weather conditions and a ship doesn't? The disturbance was fully readable in all the weather charts." Batten DownTheir errors didn't end there, according to Costantino, who said in the interview that there would've been "zero risk" had the right maneuvers been made. The captain and crew, he further explained to the New York Times , should've turned on the engine, lifted anchor, steered the boat into the wind, and lowered the keel for extra stability, while the passengers should've been gathered in the deck's main hall. Another precaution would be shutting all the doors and hatches on the ship's side and stern. Costantino claimed that the Bayesian could list, or tilt to one side, to 75 degrees without capsizing, and shouldn't have sunk. But if some of those doors and hatches were left open, he told NYT , the ship could've taken on water too quickly. As it stands, it's unclear how many of these procedures were executed. The ship's captain, James Cutfield, survived the ordeal and was questioned by authorities, but has not spoken to the media. It's worth noting that Costantino's arguments could be seen as trying to exonerate his company of any wrongdoing. That being said, the speed at which a vessel of Bayesian's size and reputation sank has stunned sailors and investigators , who are trying to understand why most of the crew survived while six passengers perished. New on YahooUK tycoon's daughter is seventh, final victim of Sicily yacht sinkingDivers searching a sunken superyacht off Sicily recovered the body of the teenage daughter of UK tech tycoon Mike Lynch Friday, the seventh and final victim of a tragedy in which the businessman also perished. Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah had been among six passengers reported missing after the "Bayesian" went down off the north coast of the Italian island in a storm early on Monday morning. After Hannah's body was brought ashore on Friday, her family issued a statement describing their "unspeakable grief". "The Lynch family is devastated, in shock and is being comforted and supported by family and friends," it said. Search teams had recovered the bodies of four of Lynch's friends on Wednesday, and that of the entrepreneur himself on Thursday. The body of a man believed to be the yacht's chef had been found a few hours after the sailing ship sank. Lynch, 59, had invited friends and family onto the sailing boat to celebrate his recent acquittal in a massive US fraud case. But the 56-metre (185-foot) British-flagged yacht was struck by a waterspout -- akin to a mini-tornado -- before dawn on Monday as it was anchored off Porticello, near Palermo. It sank at around 04:30 am local time, according to management company Camper and Nicolsons, and now lies on the sea bed some 50 metres down. - 'Heartbroken' - Hannah had just finished her end-of-school exams and had a place to study English literature at Oxford University. Friends described her as warm, loving and "charming and ferociously intelligent", according to one of the tributes issued by the family. Lynch, once dubbed the British "Bill Gates", was "the most brilliant mind and (most) caring person I have ever known", said another. The businessman had been acquitted on all charges in a San Francisco court in June after he was accused of an $11 billion fraud linked to the sale of his software firm Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard. US lawyer Chris Morvillo, a partner at top law firm Clifford Chance who worked on the trial, also died in the sinking, along with his wife Neda. Morvillo's firm Clifford Chance paid tribute to the couple, saying all were "heartbroken at the tragic passing... and still coming to terms with this terrible loss". Italy's fire service said 27 divers had gone down to the submerged yacht each day, performing 123 dives overall in a search that also saw helicopters scour the area. The bodies of Jonathan Bloomer, the chair of Morgan Stanley International, and his wife Judy, were also found. The Bloomer family said they were suffering "unimaginable grief" for a couple who had been together for five decades. "Our only comfort is that they are still together now," the family said. - 'Uncovering the truth' - Many questions remain about why the yacht sank, and so quickly, when other boats nearby were unaffected. Italian prosecutors have opened a probe and will hold a press conference on Saturday. On Thursday the head of the company which built the boat said the tragedy could have been avoided. "Everything that was done reveals a very long summation of errors," said Giovanni Costantino, head of the Italian Sea Group, which includes the Perini Navi company that built Bayesian in 2008. But Nautilus International, a maritime trade union, called for a "thorough, unbiased investigation". General secretary Mark Dickinson warned questioning the crew's conduct "without the full facts" would be "not only unfair but also harmful to the process of uncovering the truth". The Bayesian, owned by Lynch's family, boasted a 75-metre mast, the tallest aluminium sailing mast in the world, according to the Charter World website. Raising the wreck would likely cost some 15 million euros and take "six to eight weeks", according to the salvage engineer who led the operation to recover the Costa Concordia cruise ship, which sank off Italy in 2012. To recover the yacht, the mast could be removed on the seabed but the boat would be lifted up whole using a giant crane and a team of 40 specialist divers, South African engineer Nick Sloane told the Repubblica daily. Blitzen’s Baddies aim for strong finish to 2024 Newport Yacht Club’s racing seasonChallenges confronted the crew of the Blitzen from day one in their inaugural year competing in the Newport Harbor Yacht Club’s racing season. Their halyard broke during the opening day race in May, sending the wind-catching kite propelling their boat from Long Beach Harbor to Newport Pier tumbling into the ocean. “There was no hesitation between this team,” Blitzen’s owner Brett Scott said. “Everyone grabbed the kite and in 20 seconds it was up and flying again.” She has been sailing since she was 5. But her first year at the head of a team has taught her a lot about managing schedules, the personalities aboard the boat and finances, she said. “Whenever something breaks it adds up, so I’m definitely not doing this for the money,” Scott said with a laugh. “Don’t take investment advice from me. But we’ve really bonded as a team, and I think that’s our greatest achievement.” There were plenty of smirks, side-eye and playful jabs as she and the crew rigged the Blitzen Friday in preparation of Long Point Race week. The three-day race is the last competitive event of the yacht club’s season. The first leg starts in Newport Harbor and ends at Catalina Island. Boats then sail to the opposite end of the island and back on day two before returning to Newport Harbor on day three. Blitzen’s Baddies, as the crew refers to themselves on Instagram, are all experienced sailors and were optimistic about finishing strong in their first season as a team. They’ve had some success this summer, including third-, second- and first-place finishes in their class during the three days of Long Beach Racing Week in June. “We keep getting better,” Scott said. Crew member Tyler Macdonald said the hardest part about the season has been “dealing with Adam and Spencer,” drawing laughs from Adam Bradley, Spencer Buchanan and the rest of the team aboard the Blitzen on Friday. Teammate Matt Whitfield said the real challenge of each race lies in “the hangover afterwards.” Coincidentally, he said his favorite activity while sailing is when they crack open some beer mid-journey. There’s no shortage of banter aboard the Blitzen. And the irreverent sense of humor of her crew is half the reason Scoot chose to have them aboard. She grew up in Reno and traveled to Newport Beach every summer as a child to sail with her family. She fell in love with both the ocean and the tavern-style warmth of the community that welcomed her into the sport. Her father, Bart Scott, said he wasn’t surprised to see her move to Newport Beach. He’s proud to see her fulfill her lifelong dream of owning a boat and fielding a racing team. And although she has a sense of humor, she runs a tight ship and commands the respect of her crew. “Once we all come together on what a problem is there’s not a lot of back and forth or arguing,” Scott said. “They all just recognize what we each need to do and get it done.” After Long Point, Blitzen’s Baddies plan on participating in small casual races while preparing for next season. They hope to compete in the Transpacific Yacht Race from San Pedro to Honolulu next July. All the latest on Orange County from Orange County. Get our free TimesOC newsletter. By Elisabetta Povoledo Deep-sea divers with Italy’s firefighter corps resumed their search on Tuesday for six missing passengers — including a British software mogul and his daughter — of a yacht that sank off the coast of Sicily the previous day. Twenty-two people were on board the 180-foot British-flagged sailing yacht, the Bayesian, which was anchored near the port of Porticello, when it was hit by what witnesses described as a waterspout, a small tornado on water, during a sudden and violent storm. Fifteen people who managed to get to a raft were rescued by the captain of a nearby sailing cruise ship. The body of the yacht’s cook, identified by news outlets as Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian Antiguan, was recovered on Monday. But several people are still unaccounted for, according to Salvatore Cocina, an official with Sicily’s civil protection agency. Those still missing are Mike Lynch, a British technology entrepreneur; his daughter Hannah; Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International; his wife, Judy Bloomer; Christopher J. Morvillo, a lawyer at Clifford Chance; and his wife, Neda Morvillo. Mr. Lynch was acquitted of fraud in a U.S. trial in June, ending a high-profile, decadelong legal battle against accusations that he had defrauded Hewlett-Packard when he sold his company, Autonomy, to Hewlett for $11 billion. Mr. Lynch and the others went missing days after Mr. Lynch’s co-defendant at the fraud trial, Stephen Chamberlain, a former vice president of finance at Autonomy, was fatally struck by a car on Saturday while out for a run, his lawyer, Gary S. Lincenberg, said in a statement. Prosecutors in the Italian city of Termini Imerese, east of where the yacht sank, are opening a formal investigation into the yacht’s sinking. Reached by telephone, the chief prosecutor declined to comment. The search for the missing passengers began on Monday but was suspended late that night as crews found themselves limited to the bridge deck and items like furnishings “obstructing passage,” the firefighters’ corps wrote on social media . When divers resumed the search on Tuesday, ships trawled the waters near the site, the corps said in a statement. The Italian Coast Guard also said in a statement that search operations were “continuing unabated,” with the deployment of helicopters. There was no evidence that gasoline was leaking from the yacht, the Coast Guard said. The yacht was lying on its right side in about 165 feet of water, meaning that divers, working in pairs, could stay underwater for only about 12 minutes at a time, said Luca Cari, a spokesman for the firefighters’ corps. Divers were seeking a safe point of access to the vessel’s cabins. “Obviously, everything fell and the space is very tight,” Mr. Cari said, adding that the divers were having to remove obstacles, like furnishings and electrical wiring, that were “completely blocking passages.” The firefighters’ corps said in a statement that it was impossible to verify whether people were inside the hull. Mr. Cari said that several divers had been part of the search-and-rescue operations when the Costa Concordia, a cruise liner, capsized off the Tuscan island of Giglio in 2012, killing 32 people. It is considered one of the worst maritime disasters in modern Italian history. “It’s like the Costa Concordia, but much smaller,” Mr. Cari said in a telephone interview, comparing the search operations. “In the Costa Concordia, we came across many obstacles but we somehow were able to overcome them. Here, the obstacles block the passages and have to be removed.” He added, “This makes it more difficult.” Crews were also trying to raise the yacht, which experts will examine to try to determine why it sank. Until then, experts can only hypothesize what happened. Karsten Borner, the captain of a ship, the Sir Robert Baden Powell, which picked up the Bayesian’s 15 survivors, said in an interview that when the wind picked up around 4 a.m. Monday, the Bayesian was about 490 feet behind his vessel. Once the wind wound down, he said, he could not see the yacht anymore. “My theory was that she was capsized first and then went down over the stern,” Mr. Borner said. Dario Boote, a ship structures and naval architecture professor at the University of Genoa, said: “Now I imagine that a whole series of lawsuits will be triggered, obviously to ascertain whether there is any responsibility, as always happens very unpleasantly in these situations.” He said, however, that in this case, responsibility might be hard to determine. “Clearly, only once the wreck is raised will we know more,” he added. Several fishermen told Italian news outlets that they had witnessed a waterspout. Peter Inness, a meteorologist at the University of Reading, said they were relatively common in the Mediterranean, though their occurrence and intensity are unpredictable. “Until one actually forms, you can’t start telling people where it is,” Mr. Inness said, or “how to get out of the way.” The inclement weather — with lightning intermittently streaking through the sky — made it hard to know exactly why the yacht sank. Col. Attilio Di Diodato, director of the Italian Air Force’s Center for Aerospace Meteorology and Climatology, said the agency had registered intense lightning activity and strong gusts of wind in the area at the time the boat sank. The Bayesian had one of the tallest aluminum masts in the world, according to its builder, Perini Navi. “Having a tall aluminum mast would not make it the safest port to be in case of a storm,” said Andrea Ratti, associate professor of nautical design and architecture technology the Politecnico di Milano. The type of intensity unleashed by a violent lightning storm “could have created a significant shock wave,” he added. He, too, cautioned that “a lot of questions will remain until we have other elements at our disposal.” Modern yachts are built to withstand meteorological events of reasonable intensity, and all international naval registers suggest that new ships be designed for higher waves and more frequent and extreme weather events. But “this seems a case of an unreasonable extreme event,” said Emilio Fortunato Campana, an expert in Naval Hydrodynamics at Italy’s National Research Council. “In that case, no ship is 100 percent safe,” he added. “I think the Titanic showed that nothing is unsinkable.” Elisabetta Povoledo is a reporter based in Rome, covering Italy, the Vatican and the culture of the region. Tech billionaire Mike Lynch's sunken yacht has been touted as "unsinkable" by the CEO of the company that built it, with six bodies recovered since the vessel went down off the coast of Sicily in Italy. The vessel, with 22 tourists and crew aboard, was caught in a ferocious storm in the early hours of Monday (local time) while anchored at the popular holiday destination. It is understood those on board were asleep at the time, many in their cabins on the lower decks. Emergency services raced to the scene, rescuing 15 people, including a one-year-old baby and her mother. "Being the manufacturer of Perini (boats), I know very well how the boats have always been designed and built," he said. "And as Perini is a sailing ship, sailing ships, it is well known, are the safest in the most absolute sense." The body of Canadian-Antiguan chef, Recaldo Thomas, was located in the water near the shipwreck shortly after the incident. Italian authorities have since recovered five more bodies since the $27 million superyacht sank including tech billionaire Mike Lynch, Morgan Stanley International chair, Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judy Bloomer, lawyer Christopher Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo. Mr Lynch's 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, is still unaccounted for, with divers continuing their search efforts. Mr Costantino said learning the yacht had sunk "put (him) in a state of sadness on one side and of disbelief on the other". "This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact," he said. Mr Costantino also told local television he blamed “human error” for the yacht’s sinking. “It drives me insane,” he said. “Following all the proper procedures, that boat is unsinkable.” CCTV footage from a nearby villa emerged soon after the disaster, revealing the 56-metre luxury vessel, had sunk in less than a minute as a wild storm smashed the boat. The 50-second clip showed the intense weather lashing the lit-up superyacht anchored some 200 metres from the shore before it disappeared and sank into the water. “In just sixty seconds you can see the ship disappear," the owner of the villa told Italian news agency ANSA about the video. “Of about twenty cameras installed in the house, only one was not disturbed by the wind and rain. You can clearly see what is happening. There was nothing that could be done for the boat. It disappeared in a very short time.” Add your comment to this storyTo join the conversation, please log in. By Ashna Hurynag, news correspondent and Eleonora Chiarella, producer Thursday 22 August 2024 15:27, UK Vessels like Mike Lynch's stricken superyacht are "unsinkable", according to the chief executive of the firm which makes and sells them. Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, told Sky News there are no flaws with the design and construction of the Bayesian superyacht which capsized in a storm off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, on Monday. Five bodies were found by divers on Wednesday - taking the number of confirmed dead to six. The Italian Sea Group also owns the firm that built British tech tycoon Mr Lynch's Bayesian, and Mr Costantino said the vessels "are the safest in the most absolute sense". "Being the manufacturer of Perini [boats], I know very well how the boats have always been designed and built," he said. "And as Perini is a sailing ship... sailing ships are renowned to be the safest ever." He said their structure and keel made them "unsinkable bodies". Photo by David Ramos Resentment against the effects of massive tourism has been brewing for years in Barcelona, and that sentiment has reached new heights this summer precisely as the America’s Cup , the world’s premier sailing competition, starts and becomes the latest target of protests and criticism. Protesters are blasting the oldest sporting race in the world that runs from August 22 to October 27 as ‘elitist and opaque’, claiming that it’s “just for rich people,” driving up prices for locals and putting the Spanish city under more pressure. The Platform Against the America’s Cup, created last year to fight “against an event that will generate mass tourism and is already causing the massive diversion of housing to seasonal rentals,” as stated on their site, has said that new protests against the event are being organized as six teams compete to claim the 37th victory of the yacht race . “A lot of people involved in the race have taken up long-term rents on apartments in the city center and pushed up prices for local people,” Martí Cuso of the Platform warned. “There will be protests coming in the first week of September.” Netflix’s Best New Mystery Crime Show Has A Perfect 100% Critic ScoreApple iphone 16 pro: new design echoed in latest leak, forget the fed—china could be about to drop a $420 billion bitcoin and crypto price bombshell. Las Ramblas pedestrian street with crowds of tourists Looking for “Quality Tourism”....for the richFrom the official side, The America’s Cup — the ultimate sporting competition for the super-rich — is, in fact, an effort by city officials to attract “quality, rather than quantity” tourism. The yacht competition is sponsored by the luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton , which in late May had already organized a star-studded fashion show in the Park Güell, one of Barcelona’s most popular tourist attractions, designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí, that caused serious clashes between residents protesting the closure of the park for the glitzy event and baton-wielding police charging at protesters. Photo By Alberto Paredes Displaced by the crowdsMuch of the local population has already been driven out of the areas of Barcelona most affected by mass tourism and campaigners fighting for more stringent controls argue that “rather than attracting a ‘better’, high-spending type of tourist, events such as the America’s Cup simply bring more people to a city already struggling to cope with the mass of visitors.” Those who live near hot spots in the city are frustrated with daily life where, as reported in the New York Times , they feel “displaced by the crowds; pollution along the waterfront where massive cruise ships dock; and everywhere, it seems, an apparent disregard for local culture.” Jaume Collboni, the socialist mayor of Barcelona, has said that the contest will bring €1.2 billion in revenue for the city, and create jobs. Critics, on the other hand, say that the potential income from the lavish competition will be enjoyed by few as the tournament itself is followed mostly by the elites. “This is not like the Olympics, where people are interested in the sport,” Cuso told the web news site i . “This is just for rich people who can afford to go and see the yachts on their own boats at sea.” He went further to explain that the yachts are sponsored by luxury brands that want to use Barcelona to promote their products. America's Cup trophy Tensions and hostility risingTensions over tourism that finally boiled over into outright hostility has triggered splashy headlines globally, such as the incident last month when some 3,000 residents took to the streets to protest against tourism , some squirting visitors on the city’s famed boulevard Las Ramblas with water guns. In 2023, 12 million tourists visited Barcelona, a city of 1.6 million residents, making it the favorite destination in Spain. This year, tourism officials ex[ect at least 13 million visitors. “Their impact includes skyrocketing housing prices, dirty beaches, crowded thoroughfares and the transformation of historic neighborhoods into what locals refer to as “theme parks,” The New York Times writes. Barcelona is the second Spanish city to host the competition. Valencia hosted two consecutive editions in 2007 and 2010. Security reinforcementsAs for the multi-million pound America’s Cup, a major security operation has been launched around the event and competition areas with more than 650 police deployed in land, six boats patrolling the sea and helicopters flying above Barcelona. The Civil Guard has also deployed divers to reinforce security at sea. Following years of technological innovation and hundreds of millions of euros of investment from super-rich backers, the Emirates Team New Zealand will be defending the title against challenges by boats from Italy, Switzerland, France, the U.K. and the U.S. At the round-robin stage, which will last until September 8, each challenger crew races each other twice, with the top four progressing to the semi-finals. Those Challengers of Record will face-off against the reigning champions in a series of races in October. Most of the teams have had established bases for training in Port Vell, the city’s old port, since last year. The America’s Cup was first staged on the Isle of Wight in 1851 and is claimed to be the oldest international sporting event in the world. It was last held in 2021 in Auckland, New Zealand, and was won by the hosts. - Editorial Standards

Five bodies found in sunken superyacht, officials sayDivers have found five bodies in the sunken wreckage of a superyacht that sank off Sicily this week, Italian officials told news agencies and local media Wednesday, leaving one person still missing. Three bodies were brought ashore and two others were also found inside the shipwreck, Salvatore Cocina, head of the Sicily civil protection agency, told the Associated Press, after divers were photographed by the agency unloading body bags. Cocina did not identify the deceased. The British-flagged, 183-foot-long Bayesian was carrying 12 passengers and 10 crew members roughly half a mile from the Sicilian fishing village of Porticello when it encountered what authorities called a “violent storm” about 4 a.m. Monday. Of the 15 people rescued, eight – including a 1-year-old girl – were taken to hospitals in conditions that were not life-threatening. The body of the yacht’s chef, identified as Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian Antiguan, was found during initial recovery efforts. Among the passengers was Mike Lynch, 59, the British founder of the tech venture capital firm Invoke Capital and co-founder of the tech firms Autonomy and Darktrace. This summer, he was acquitted of all charges after a decadelong U.S. fraud trial related to the 2011 sale of Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard. The voyage on the Bayesian, owned by a company controlled by Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, was intended to be a celebration of his legal victory, Britain’s Telegraph reported. Among those missing were Lynch; his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah; Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, Judy; and attorney Chris Morvillo, a partner at Clifford Chance in New York who represented Lynch in the recently concluded legal battle, and his wife, Neda. Bacares, Lynch’s wife, was among the survivors. It’s not clear exactly what type of storm struck the Bayesian, but weather data suggests it was probably a tornadic waterspout or severe thunderstorm. Charlotte Golunski, a guest of Lynch who was rescued, described to Italian media holding onto her 1-year-old daughter, Sophie, amid the storm. “For two seconds I lost my baby in the sea,” she told Giornale di Sicilia. “Then I immediately hugged her again amid the fury of the waves.” Lynch sold Autonomy, which was once England’s biggest software company, to Hewlett-Packard in 2011 for more than $11 billion. He was subsequently accused of overvaluing the company and was charged in the United States with fraud. He was acquitted in June. The Bayesian was built in 2008 by Italian shipmaker Perini Navi, according to the SuperYacht Times. The Sir Robert, a Dutch-flagged sailing vessel anchored nearby, responded immediately to help survivors before the Italian coast guard arrived. The yacht sank to a depth of more than 160 feet. The first attempt by fire-brigade cave divers to search inside the yacht was unsuccessful, rescue authorities said. Bryan Pietsch contributed to this report.
