Two Russian missiles hit a military academy today in Poltava, a city in eastern Ukraine, killing more than 50 people and injuring scores of others, Ukrainian officials said. Ukraine’s president said a hospital had also been hit. It was one of the most lethal attacks of the two-and-a-half-year war .

Moscow has accelerated the tempo of its attacks in Ukraine over the last few weeks, resulting in a wave of death and destruction . Just yesterday, Russian forces fired a volley of missiles into Ukraine for the third time in a week.

The assault comes at “a moment when the war is more dynamic on the front, with Ukraine pushing into Russia and Russia pressing deeper into eastern Ukraine,” said my colleague Marc Santora, who has been reporting from Kyiv. So far, Ukraine’s incursion has not drawn Russian troops out of their advance, as Ukrainian officials had hoped.

After today’s strikes, President Volodymyr Zelensky renewed his pleas to Western allies for advanced air defense systems that can shoot down Russia’s ballistic missiles.

In Mongolia, Vladimir Putin received a red-carpet welcome . It was his first state visit to a member nation of the International Criminal Court, which has issued a warrant for his arrest.

Taking back the streets (for recess).

From stickball to double Dutch, playing in the street has long been a rite of passage in New York City. Now, a new city program is offering schools the authority to close streets to traffic and open them as a safe place for students to run around during recess .

This month, 71 streets are being taken over by children who are otherwise confined to a building. “They were so happy to be able to go outside, burn some steam and just have, like, that old-school feel of being able to go outside and enjoy yourself during lunch time,” one community school director said.

Another is the SEA RHAPSODY yacht, a 64.7-meter yacht capable of hosting 12 guests using her six spacious cabins and can also fit 18 qualified crew members.

She weighs 1,503 tons and can cruise at 13 knots and caps out at 17 knots.

Aboard the SIXTH SENSE yacht, guests can have full access to her amenities such as her onboard deck swimming pool, a Touch-n’-go helipad, a sun deck jacuzzi, a deck bar, an outside dining area, and outdoor lounges.

She also has complete air conditioning and wifi access.

She can also host up to 12 guests in her six cabins which can be attended to by up to 19 qualified onboard crew members.

She spans an overall length of 242.9 feet or 74 meters, a beam of 40.11 feet or 12.46 meters, and a draft of 12.8 feet or 3.85 meters.

A look at the wellness retreat in the middle of Portugal’s famous wine region

A rejuvenating blend of sunshine, spa services and excursions await at Six Senses Douro Valley.

Situated in the midst of the rolling hills of Portugal’s historic Douro Valley, this Six Senses location is elegantly designed to work in harmony with all of nature’s elements to create a holistic, restorative experience for its guests. And while a wellness retreat in the middle of one of the world’s most famous wine regions might sound like a recipe for disaster, it’s also precisely why it works. 

There’s a serious focus on well-being and health here, but this elegantly restored 19th-century manor house offers so many other innovative activities and experiences that rooms are quickly booked up by couples and families who want to enjoy a holiday together while still being able to plan each day according to individual desires.

The resort’s 71 rooms and suites are large and airy, with vast floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on to the estate, and each is equipped with all the latest tech while staying true to the innately peaceful and relaxing Six Senses aesthetic. Hidden in the manor house gardens there are one- and two-bedroom villas, each with their own private pool, and a renovated wine lodge offers nine all-new Valley Rooms and Suites that can be inter-connected for larger group stays. 

Children are also well catered for, with activities for little adventurers including tree climbing, cycling and water skiing, and for the more mindfully inclined youngster, there are kids’ yoga, art and cooking classes to keep them occupied while their parents soak in the spa.

And soak in the spa you will: located on the second floor of the main house, this serene space has been designed with the elements in mind, blending water, stone and wood with a sense of traditional Portuguese visuals.

All the classics are on offer here, from deep tissue and detox massages to manicures, pedicures and facials, but it’s the more unusual treatments that will have you hooked: the Warming Schist Vinotherapy takes all the elements of Portugal’s wine country for a full-body exfoliation using grapeseed pearls and port, followed by a massage using warm schist stones. 

Six Senses signature treatments such as sound massages with Tibetan Bowls are all on offer too, plus a raft of new offerings such as cryotherapy and colour therapy and a full range of smart tech therapies – think Sleep Upgrades, Wellness Screenings and Biohacking, each designed to rejuvenate your body to release its full potential. 

The experience doesn’t end there either; after sweating it out in the steam rooms and infrared saunas and cooling off in the vitality pool, guests can create their own massage and aromatherapy oils to take home with them at the Alchemy Bar. The first in the Six Senses group, this imaginative and quirky setting is the perfect place to learn more about your favourite scents.

Equally, you may want to try a workshop hosted by one of the many visiting guest healers and practitioners – recently they’ve included New Moon after dark meditations, breathwork and Ayurvedic practices. And if your four-legged friend wants a detox too, Six Senses have canines covered with a paw massage, luxury “face-to-tail spaw” offerings and a nutritionist-prepared menu for dogs to ensure they’re back to full health in no time.

Finally, when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated and ready to venture out, there are endless ways to explore the region. Luxury motor yacht SENSES is a unique yacht, built by Freres Schweers Shipyard, and one of the most remarkable conversion projects to date. M/Y ‘Senses’ has a sturdy exterior which contrasts with her beautifully designed modern interior. The superyacht was created to explore the world’s oceans in comfort and she carries a very comprehensive inventory of equipment for this purpose. She underwent a refit in 2024 and can accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 cabins, with a professional crew of 16 on board.

The interior Designer has created a unique and harmonious interior which combines fabulous woods with soft cream furnishings and some very unusual objects d’art from the owners’ collections. SENSES Specifications

Split-level decks provide open and shaded sun lounging areas, secluded side pods, sheltered outdoor dining and informal seating areas, an airy and light gymnasium and a private beach club, complete with a spa pool and vast sun beds. With an impressive volume provided by six decks and a beam of 12.7m, superyacht Senses can store three ship's tenders laterally, has full helicopter capability and a stern launched 42’ Nelson tender.

Excellent yacht design and an ongoing maintenance and refit program by her owners means this very well-regarded luxury explorer superyacht which is kept in fantastic condition and ready for ongoing ocean adventures.

Yacht Accommodation

Motor yacht 'Senses' offers the following accommodation for up to 12 guests: All guest and owner's suites are located on the lower deck for optimum comfort. Owner's full beam suite is aft in the accommodation area and amidship. There is a double door to the Owner's lobby forward of the Owner's suite. Starboard side in the Owner's suite is a sitting area and opposite to port a separate sitting and office area. With huge opening windows the Owner's suite is extremely light and enabling wonderful views whilst underway. King size bed centrally located ahead of an entertainment centre on the centerline with his and hers bathrooms. A dressing room separates one side of the bathroom to the other. Forward: Identical twin cabins each with a desk, entertainment center and ensuite bathroom with a tub and separate shower and twin sinks. Further aft: two identical king size cabins each with a desk, entertainment centre, sofa and ensuite bathroom with a tub and twin sinks. All guest cabins are equipped with TV/VCR - Stereo CD. The gym can convert into additional accommodation for two guests with an ensuite bath room thus enabling 12 guests sleeping.

About Maxillofacial Surgery

Maxillofacial surgery is a surgical subspecialty of medicine that diagnoses and treats defects, diseases and injuries to the hard and soft tissues of the mouth (oral) and jaws and face region (maxillofacial). These diseases, injuries or defects may interfere with the function or aesthetics of the oral and maxillofacial region.

This kind of surgery is performed by a maxillofacial surgeon. Such a surgeon is specialized in treating the entire craniomaxillofacial complex. This includes the anatomical area of the skull, face, mouth, and jaws as well as associated structures.

Depending on the location, maxillofacial surgeons may have training in general medicine, dentistry, and surgery. Training and qualification in medicine can be optionally undertaken. They may also undergo additional optional training for 1or 2 years in oral and maxillofacial surgery fellowship training. This fellowship can be in the following areas:

• Cosmetic facial surgery
• Head and neck cancer-microvascular reconstruction
• Cranio-maxillofacial trauma
• Craniofacial surgery
• Head and neck reconstruction
• Maxillofacial regeneration
• To have dental implants inserted to replace teeth.
• To have oral surgical procedures performed
• To have an oral, facial or jaw cyst or tumor diagnosed and treated.
• To have your jaw aligned
• To have your jaw joints repaired
• To have facial and jaw reconstruction after cancer surgery
• To have the facial bones realigned after facial trauma.
• To consult so as to determine whether to have aesthetic surgery
• To have a tooth extracted

Treatments may be performed on the craniomaxillofacial complex which includes the face, neck, mouth, jaws and include:

• Dentoalveolar surgery: This is surgery for difficult tooth extraction, to remove impacted teeth, extractions on medically compromised patients, bone grafting or pre-prosthetic surgery, dentures, or other dental prostheses.
• Surgery to insert bone fused maxillofacial implants and dental implants for attaching bone anchored hearing aids and craniofacial prostheses.
• Cosmetic surgery of the head and neck: This includes facelift, browlift, blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, septoplasty, cheek or chin augmentation, genioplasty, lip enhancement, oculoplastics, neck liposuction, injectable cosmetic treatments, chemical peel and botox
• Corrective jaw surgery and surgical treatment of sleep apnea

If opting for sedation or general anesthesia you should not drink or eat anything 6-8 hours prior to the surgery. Also, ensure to have someone to take you home after the procedure. Any prescribed medication should be taken with only a small sip of water.

After care : Bleeding: Most bleeding is usually under control by the time you leave. Some blood-tinged saliva or oozing may continue for a day. Pain: The doctor will prescribe medication to manage any pain you may experience. Swelling: This may occur immediately after the procedure. It may gradually increase over 1-3 days. Ice packs may control the swelling. Nausea: This may result from the anesthesia or pain medication. Diet: You should eat soft foods and drink liquids 1-2 days following the surgery. Hot and spicy foods should be avoided Oral hygiene: This should not be avoided. Brush your teeth as usual and use warm salt water to rinse the mouth after each meal. The surgical area should not be brushed for at least 4 days following the surgery. Activity: You can resume regular activities gradually after the first 2-3 days. This is because strenuous activities can promote bleeding. Fever: It is normal to have an elevated body temperature following the procedure for a day. Side effects: These are temporary and improve as healing progresses. They include an earache, restricted mouth opening, and discoloration of the skin, the temporary ache of the adjacent teeth and stretching or cracking at the mouth corners.
