Créé par les frères Jeppesen et Birgen Hansen, le chantier X-Yachts, basé à Haderslev au Danemark, a vu le jour en 1979. Tout d’abord dédié à la fabrication de voiliers de régate, le chantier a vite été reconnu pour les performances de ses bateaux IOR (International Offshore Rule), une jauge requise pour les régates internationales dans les années 1980. Forte de ce succès, la marque élargit son catalogue dès 1990 pour offrir aux plaisanciers des voiliers aussi sportifs que confortables. Xc 47, un voilier de croisière nouvelle génération pour X-Yachts

X-Yachts qui fabrique de cossus voiliers de croisière lancera en 2024 un nouveau modèle dans sa ligne XCruising. Le Xc 47 est présenté comme novateur et introduira plusieurs nouveautés, dans l'architecture comme dans le design.

Une nouvelle génération de voilier de croisière

Le chantier danois X-Yachts , qui a produit 6500 voiliers depuis 1979, s'est fait une belle place sur le marché des beaux voiliers de croisières hauturières. Il introduit un nouveau modèle dans sa gamme XCruising, le Xc 47, qui trouve sa place entre le 50 et le 45. Présenté comme le premier modèle d'une nouvelle génération de XCruising, ce voilier de 14,30 m de longueur de coque et d'un maître-bau de 4,56 m se destine à la longue croisière hauturière en équipage réduit.

Un cockpit repensé pour naviguer en équipage réduit

L'aménagement de cockpit a été pensé pour faciliter les manœuvres du barreur, avec des écoutes rapportées aux postes de barre. Quatre winchs, deux sur chaque bord, sont positionnés devant les barres à roue. Toutes les manœuvres passent à travers des gouttières sous le pont, depuis le pied de mât jusqu'au poste de barre à travers des bloqueurs. Le rail d'écoute de grand-voile a été repositionné du cockpit à une position plus pratique, en amont de la descente sur le roof. Cet agencement de cockpit laisse place à un espace de vie plus confortable, avec les manœuvres revenant au niveau du poste de barre.

Près du tableau arrière, une grande plage arrière accueille une confortable assise pleine largeur, derrière les barres à roue, ainsi qu'un agréable bain de soleil. Pour coller au programme hauturier, le cockpit est profond et bien protégé avec un tableau arrière fermé.

Un aménagement intérieur sur plusieurs niveaux

La forme de superstructure est plus volumineuse que sur les X-Yachts habituels, pour accueillir un "semi-deck saloon" et jouir d'une meilleure vue, de plus de lumière naturelle, mais aussi d'un aménagement sur plusieurs niveaux. Pensé dès le départ pour voyager autour du monde, le Xc 47 dispose de grands volumes de stockage pour l' avitaillement . L'aménagement standard offre trois cabines en standard avec deux cabinets de toilette, mais peut être aménagé avec seulement deux cabines et un espace buanderie/atelier.

Des lignes de coques revisitées

La carène conserve des sections avant fines, un rocker généreux et un franc-bord plus important sur l'arrière. Le tableau dispose d'une section arrière moderne plus large qui apporte une stabilité supplémentaire, qui devrait améliorer les performances. Elle apporte également plus d'espace dans les cabines arrière.

Un processus de conception différent

Pour concevoir ce nouveau modèle, le chantier a changé ses habitudes. Il a construit un modèle grandeur nature, une sorte de maquette géante qui peut être inclinée jusqu'à 20 degrés. Cette plateforme permet de tester différents scénarios de conception en situation réelle et a permis d'identifier directement les bonnes solutions, aussi bien quand le bateau est amarré au port, qu'en navigation en situation de gite.

Le Xc 47 est construit à partir d'un sandwich époxy et fibres de verre entièrement infusé sous-vide. On retrouve dans la coque la structure métallique caractéristique de X-Yachts qui reprend tous les efforts. Les zones exposées à des charges élevées sont renforcées avec de la fibre de carbone, ce qui contribue à solidifier sans ajouter de poids.

Le Xc 47 sera lancé en 2024 avec un prix de lancement de 750 000 € HT et équipé d'un propulseur d'étrave, d'un combiné chargeur/onduleur, d'un bout-dehors en carbone ou encore de planchers en nid d'abeille.

Superyacht maker's CEO: Bayesian's crew made an 'incredible mistake'

T he body of British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch was recovered Thursday from his family's superyacht that sank off the coast of Italy after it encountered a sudden and powerful storm, authorities said.

After four bodies were recovered from the wreck Wednesday, Lynch's 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, remains the only person unaccounted for, Massimo Mariani, of Italy's interior ministry, told Reuters. Her body may have been swept out to sea, Mariani said.

It could take divers more time to find her body because of the difficulties of accessing the sunken ship more than 160 feet down, said Luca Cari, a fire brigade spokesperson. Rescuers faced a challenging task in scouring extremely deep and narrow spaces around the boat.

Giovanni Costantino, the CEO of Italian ship manufacturer Perini, which made the ship in 2008, told Reuters on Thursday, "The boat suffered a series of indescribable, unreasonable errors."

He said the crew made an "incredible mistake" in not preparing for the storm, even though it was announced in a shipping forecast earlier. "This is the mistake that cries out for vengeance," he said.

Lynch, 59, was best known as the co-founder of Britain’s largest enterprise software, Autonomy, which was sold to Hewlett-Packard in 2011. He had invited his friends on the yacht to celebrate his acquittal in June of fraud charges related to the sale of Autonomy.

The Bayesian, a 184-feet-long British-registered sailboat, went down just before sunrise Monday off the coast of Porticello, near Palermo, where it was anchored when a strong storm swept across the area. Of the 22 passengers and crew members on board, 15, including Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, were pulled from the water Monday, and several were hospitalized. Divers then recovered the body of Ricardo Thomas, the yacht's chef, near the ship.

Who were among the missing?

An exhaustive search ensued for six missing people: Lynch and his daughter; Judy and Jonathan Bloomer, a non-executive chair of Morgan Stanley International; and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife, Neda Morvillo.

Jonathan Bloomer was a character witness at Lynch’s fraud trial, and Chris Morvillo, an American citizen, was part of the team that represented Lynch.

Hannah, the younger of Lynch's two daughters, was preparing to study English literature at Oxford University, according to the Sunday Times.

Investigation opened into the tragedy

Local prosecutors have opened an investigation into the disaster and will hold a press conference on Saturday.

Costantino said there were no errors in the ship's construction or design. "It went down because it took on water. From where, the investigators will tell," he said.

The ship, owned by Lynch's wife, Bacares, was constructed in accordance with international maritime standards and commercially certified by the U.K.'s Maritime and Coastguard Agency, according to Matthew Schanck, chairman of the Maritime Search and Rescue Council. It was refitted for the second time in 2020.

Experts have pointed to  a waterspout, a tornado over the water that can travel up to 120 mph, that formed during the storm, as well as the weight of the ship's mast, one of the largest in the world, as possible factors in its sinking.

Attorney With Litchfield County Roots, Wife Missing After Yacht Capsizes In Italy: Reports

A New York attorney with Connecticut roots and his wife are among seven people missing after the yacht they were on capsized early this week in Italy, according to multiple reports.

Christopher Morvillo 

Christopher Morvillo, age 59, who attended the Canterbury School in Litchfield County, Connecticut, and later Fordham University, along with his wife, Neda Morvillo, age 57, are among six people who are unaccounted after the 184-foot luxury yacht overturned off the coast of Sicily on Monday morning, Aug. 19, according to ABC 7.

Twenty-two people were on board the ship at the time of the incident near Palermo, according to the report.

The couple's bodies may still be on the boat, which rescuers have had a difficult time reaching, ABC 7 reports.

According to the Financial Times , the yacht is owned by a client of Morvillo's, British tycoon Mike Lynch.

Morvillo served as an assistant US Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1999 to 2005, having helped in the criminal investigation stemming from the 9/11 attacks, according to his bio on his firm's website.

Two months ago, Morvillo wrote a post on LinkedIn following an exoneration in a client. After congratulating multiple colleagues and team members, Morvillo thanks his family.

"And, finally, a huge thank you to my patient and incredible wife, Neda Morvillo, and my two strong, brilliant, and beautiful daughters, Sabrina Morvillo and Sophia Morvillo. None of this would have been possible without your love and support. I am so glad to be home," said Morvillo, closing on an eerie note.

"And they all lived happily ever after…."
