This 2008 Motor Trawler Catamaran is well presented for sale, asking for HKD 3,880,000.00 (~USD 496,000.00).This yacht has been fitted with two efficient John Deere 6068 SFM50s producing 285 HP each with a total horsepower of 570 HP (600 hours as of Q4 2023). The fuel efficiency of the yacht is very high; it burns 20 litres of fuel in total for it to cruise at 7 knots or 12 litres when at 6 knots. By pushing the throttle harder, the yacht can reach a top speed of 15 knots.The boat is equipped with solar panels at the flybridge and at the bow. These panels are strong enough to power the air conditioning and other electrical parts of the boat without the need for a generator. When the weather is not as sunny, the 10.5k MASE generator (2,236 hours as of Q4 2023) will be an alternative to keep all the electrical appliances running.The yacht comes with a very eye-catching hull paint in Miami Blue. The wide-body catamaran offers a very wide cockpit with a dining table for 10 people. Inside the saloon, guests are welcomed by the open space, with an open kitchen on the port side and a living room area on the stbd side. The galley is fully equipped with kitchenware, like a gas stove, exhaust fan, fridge, and sink; all these will be sufficient for guests to travel for a long-day trip to the sea. There are 2 ensuite bedrooms on the main deck with a double bed inside the yacht. There is a connecting door between the rooms, so guests with large families can fully utilise the connectivity without feeling separated. This feature makes it a very good boat to run a charter business on. This yacht has adopted a half-raised helm station design, so the captain of the boat can be a level up when piloting the yacht at the helm station. The tailored large computer screen with the NOBELTEC application implemented allows the captain to read the map and plan the journey with better clarity. The flybridge of the yacht is separated into two sections. The stern area adopted a loose furniture design in which guests can freely put bean bags and lounge chairs around; the bow area consists of a helm station with three pilot chairs, so the captain can enjoy better visibility by piloting the yacht at the upper helm station. This yacht is licensed with a HK charter license, and it is ideal for people who are starting a yacht charter business. As wakesurfing rises in popularity in Hong Kong, even surpassing wakeboarding – a similar, yet fundamentally different sport – surfing boat manufacturers have taken the opportunity to modify, refine, and upgrade their boat designs. Unlike wakeboarding, wakesurfing requires a particular set of features, such as a different engine placement and hull shape, alongside innovative and advanced equipment to provide an enjoyable, safe, and unforgettable wakesurfing experience.

The main difference between wakesurfing and wakeboarding is that with wakesurfing, you aren’t permanently attached to the boat via a rope. Wakeboarding gained popularity thanks to being an invigorating and fun sport in which you travel at high speeds across the water behind a boat. Wakesurfing is typically a slower – but by no means easier – sport in which you surf in the waves made by the boat’s engines. This provides surfers in Hong Kong with much easier and guaranteed access to surfable waves, provided the boat is designed correctly.

The design of the boat

The design of wakesurfing boats differs from wakeboarding boats in that there is a greater emphasis on your safety. Rather than jutting out of the back of the boat, the propellers are located on the bottom – safely out of reach of anyone in the water.

In addition to this, boats with a convex V-shaped hull ride deeper in the water, creating a bigger and more surfable wave. This is different from boats with flatter hulls that might be better for water skiing, for example.

Depending on the model of the boat, there is ample storage and a luxurious cockpit with plenty of space to move around in. There is also plenty of ballast weight on the boat for extra security without sacrificing any storage space.

Top hong kong insurer hsbc life targets asia's rich, greater bay area retirees for growth.

HSBC Life , Hong Kong's largest insurer by sales, views high-net-worth clients in Asia and the Greater Bay Area as a key driver of growth for the foreseeable future, according to Edward Moncreiffe, CEO of global insurance at HSBC.

"Asia is where we see the highest levels of wealth creation; Asia is also where we see the lowest levels of social insurance," Moncreiffe, who was elevated to the position in April, said in an exclusive interview with the Post, his first since his appointment.

"Our key growth areas are the two international wealth hubs of Hong Kong and Singapore, alongside the emerging wealth markets of mainland China and India," he said. "We are already a top-three international Asia insurer by new business volume and value. Roughly 90 per cent of our growth comes from Asia, and this is where we will continue to invest."

Moncreiffe, a former sports journalist, was previously the Hong Kong and Macau CEO of HSBC Life. He replaced Greg Hingston, who left to pursue other opportunities.

Earlier this year, Moncreiffe was instrumental in HSBC Life selling a world record US$250 million policy. This helped the group's new insurance value grow 77 per cent in the first half to US$1.3 billion.

Moncreiffe expects the record to be broken soon, as there is strong demand from wealthy individuals for such jumbo policies for estate planning.

"High-net-worth clients will be a key growth driver for HSBC Life in the coming years as we see many first-generation entrepreneurs in Asia looking to transfer their businesses and wealth to the next generation," he said.

"We have issued 15 policies with a sum insured of more than US$50 million since 2023 in Hong Kong and Singapore. We expect to be a leader in this space due to our credit rating and risk capacity."

Life insurance sales in Hong Kong surged by 12 per cent in the first half to a record high as a buying spree continued among mainland visitors and wealthy individuals in Hong Kong.

New life insurance sales rose to HK$115.9 billion (US$14.9 billion) from the HK$103 billion reported in the same period last year, which itself was a record, according to the Insurance Authority data released on Friday. The level is the highest since the authority was established in 2016

Moncreiffe said he expects falling interest rates, which seem like a sure bet to begin this month, to increase demand for insurance saving products. A rate cut would mean lower returns from time deposits, which would lead people to opt for insurance policies for higher returns, he said.

Another growth driver for HSBC Life could come from the rising number of Hongkongers living in the Greater Bay Area, where the insurer operates in eight out of the 11 cities. This will open up opportunities to provide life, retirement and medical plans for retirees in the development area.

"We are seeing an emerging trend of not just mainlanders coming to Hong Kong to buy life policies but also an increasing number of Hongkongers who are moving to the Greater Bay Area to retire," he said.

Moncreiffe said another new trend this year among customers in Hong Kong is to buy multicurrency savings plans.

"Hong Kong is a very international city where we have policyholders who may want to send their children to study in Canada or buy property in the UK for investment and retire in the Greater Bay Area," he said. "They need insurance savings and annuity plans in different currencies."

In addition, visitors from dozens of countries have been buying products in Hong Kong. Customers from as many as 49 different markets have bought policies from HSBC Life in the last 12 months.

"To me, that shows Hong Kong is fundamentally an international financial city, and our products and services need to be international," Moncreiffe said.

State-Owned Chinese Company Places $1.2 B. Bid for K11 Art Mall in Hong Kong

In a shock development that sparked headlines in Bloomberg , the Business Times , and Sing Tao this past week, K11 Art Mall in Hong Kong’s shopping district, Tsim Sha Tsui, received a $1.2 billion offer from CR Longdation, a state-owned Chinese company and a subsidiary of  China Resources Holdings Co.

Adrian Cheng launched the K11 Group, which includes various entities such as K11 Craft and Guild Foundation and the K11 Art Foundation . The latter, an internationally renowned foundation, has staged more than 60 exhibitions across China’s major cities and beyond, showcasing works by some of the world’s leading contemporary artists, including Katharina Grosse, Guan Xiao, Neïl Beloufa, Zhang Enli, and Oscar Murillo.

Cheng’s K11 Group also propagated the concept of combining art and commerce with K11 art malls across Hong Kong and mainland China. In Hong Kong alone, there are two well-known malls, the older K11 Art Mall and the expansive, relatively new development K11 Musea at Victoria Dockside.

Speaking with ARTnews , Pascal de Sarthe, founder of de Sarthe gallery in Hong Kong, said, “I have great respect for what K11 has done over the years. They have made a consequential contribution to the development of Hong Kong culture. They are not afraid of taking risks. They have hosted successful solo exhibitions of some of our previously unknown young artists, demonstrating a true passion for art.”

Even as the reports on a bid for the sale of K11 Art Mall emerged, Cheng publicly expressed confidence about Hong Kong, a city with an increasingly saturated fair ecosystem and a struggling gallery scene. This past week, Cheng, who is the committee chair of Hong Kong’s  Mega Arts and Cultural Events (ACE) Fund , attended the sudden launch of ART021 Hong Kong. The brand new fair was initiated by the organizers of Shanghai’s ART021, mainly because they were invited to apply to the $178.8 million fund.

Cheng posted about the fair on Linkedln, writing: “With the support from Mega Arts and Cultural committee, yesterday we launched ART021 Hong Kong, one of Asia’s largest Art Fair. With this, we are creating a VIP economy and enhancing Hong Kong’s position as a centre for East-West art exchange while integrating art into daily life.”

The fair saw strong crowds during its opening, but local industry insiders said they were unhappy with the quality of the event and its government funding .  

That statement came on the heels of Cheng’s recent comments, as reported by Bloomberg : “I’m very confident [Hong Kong] will be number one for family office wealth management in the future.”

The possible sale of K11 Art Mall will not be a one-off for Cheng and New World Development.

In March, Cheng announced during an earnings press conference that the developer increased its target for offloading non-core assets from HK$6 billion to HK$8 billion this financial year. Bloomberg reported that this was “ part of its plan to improve financial health”.

According to a statement released the same week, New World Development sold all of its interest in D-PARK, a shopping mall, and its parking space in the Tsuen Wan area in Hong Kong to local developer Chinachem Group for HK$4.02 billion ($514 million). The company said it planned to continue to dispose of some of its assets. The company also said it planned to lower operation expenses and repurchase bonds in the future.

Falling property prices and rising interest rates have placed immense pressure on Hong Kong’s top developers. After several Chinese developers defaulted from mid-2021 onward, investors have been dumping New World Development Co. shares and bonds, reportedly because of its high leverage and rapid expansion in China.

In fact, just this July, Hong Kongers turned up in droves for the heavily discounted sale of flats at Pavilia Forest I, a joint project between New World Development and Far East Consortium in the Kai Tak district.

According to at least one source close to K11 Art Museum in Shanghai, “Business brokerage is not doing well right now. A lot of malls are laying off workers or finding other companies to run the malls in such a way to reduce operating costs. There are fewer and fewer companies that still insist on doing their own art parts, and they are all looking for ways to cooperate.”

A spokesperson from K11 Art Foundation told ARTnews that programming is scheduled through 2026 and that the foundation is focused on the launch of K11 Ecoast, a massive cultural-retail complex slated to open on the Shenzhen waterfront in 2025. However, the foundation spokesperson did not respond to queries regarding the possible sale of K11 Art Mall in Hong Kong.

Despite current and former employees’ reluctance to speak on the record with ARTnews , key industry players in Hong Kong and mainland China have speculated about reorganization efforts at New World Development and the K11 Group. There is also the reported sale of iconic works from its art collection. As such, the firm’s offloading of its assets and the reported bid for K11 Art Mall could likely portend a precarious fate for its network of arts foundations and cultural-retail developments, especially since this is an ongoing global financial trend.
