Hinckley’s current line of yachts includes seven powerboats ranging in length from 29’ to 55’.  The powerboats are made up of six Talarias and one Picnic Boat. The Talaria fleet was first built in 1989. The present line includes: Talaria 29 C (T 29 C), T 29 R, T34 T 38 R, T 40, T 44, T 44 FB/MY, T 55, and Picnic Boat Mk III.  The T 38 R includes a hydraulically operated convertible top. Combining speed and comfort, the T 40 features the speed and handling of Hinckley’s smaller boats along with an interior that feels like a much larger boat.

Hinckley Yachts History

Hinckley Yachts, founded in 1928, is a manufacturer of luxury sailing yachts and jet-powered picnic boats based in Southwest Harbor, Maine. The company has developed yacht technologies including JetStick and Dual Guard composite material, and was an early developer of the fiberglass hull. Currently, Hinckley is operating in seven locations across the United States, making it one of the largest manufacturers of custom, luxury yachts in the United States.  Hinckley’s present yacht line includes seven powerboats ranging in size from 29 to 55 feet and seven sailing vessels offered in lengths from 42 to 70 feet. Similar to yachts built by Sabre Yachts, Ellis Boat Company, and Lyman Morse Boatbuilding, all of Hinckley’s yachts are handcrafted and semi-custom built. Semi-custom yachts use a production hull with customization of the interior, deck and rig as required by the purchaser.

Hinckley became the first American boat company to use SCRIMP technology (a method of making composite material with nearly no volatile organic compound emissions) in its yachts, for which Hinckley was awarded the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Merit Award in 1994.  Also in 1994, the company first used its jet propulsion technology.

The JetStick, designed by Control Engineering, Inc., was first used in 1998. The computer-integrated design allows the skipper to control and dock the boat through the use of a joystick. To use the JetStick the driver pushes a button to engage docking mode, this, in turn, disengages the wheel while a computer determines the amount of bow thruster and jet needed to move the boat sideways.

Hinckley was founded in 1928 when Henry Hinckley began building small boats in Southwest Harbor, Maine. While Hinckley had built many powerboats over the years, the demand for sailboats wasso strong that the company focused on this market exclusively until the early 1990s. In 1993 Hinckley broadened its product line with the introduction of the trend-setting Hinckley 36 Picnic Boat, a Downeast-style day boat with waterjet propulsion. An innovative company, Hinckley introduced its own joystick control system years before the large engine manufacturers. Surviving company layoffs and production cut-backs caused by the Great Recession, Hinckley employment reached an all-time high in 2016. Hinckley recently launched its 1,000th jetboat—a company milestone.

VESSEL DESCRIPTION

INTRODUCTION :

THISTLE is a keel/centerboard Hinckley 48 Yawl and can sleep 8 in three cabins.  This classic traditional interior has 6′ 9″ headroom in the main salon, is finished in varnished mahogany with varnished teak and holly sole and custom finished caned locker doors.  She had a major refit in 2006 in preparation for offshore sailing and the stringent safety regulations of the Newport to Bermuda race.  Significant updates in the refit included a new Yanmar engine, new electrical panel, new watermaker and new sails

Construction:

• One piece molded hand laid fiberglass hull. Deck, deckhouse, and cockpit are fiberglass molded in one piece with the deck balsa core molded providing a light but rigid structure. Deck is set into a 6” flange in the hull, then fiberglassed and bolted in place.
• Nonskid is painted onto the deck and the sail locker seats.
• Keel:  External 10,600 lb. lead keel is fastened with Everdur bolts.
• Centerboard:  Bronze 940 lb. centerboard with Hinckley worm-gear lift with override – Electric with manual back-up.

INTERIOR INTRODUCTION: 

From the cockpit, the companionway steps lead down to the main cabin with the galley set to port and navigation station opposite to starboard with a full-width main salon immediately forward. Aft to port is the master stateroom with an en suite private head.  Forward of the main salon is the forward head and stateroom.

Interior is finished:

Aft to port is the Master Stateroom that has a private en suite head forward to starboard.
