A very popular destination for Maadi residents, which sustains its attraction for generation after generation. It's a members-only facility that offers a nice ambience for social gatherings, dining and beverages vis-á-vis multi sport courts. Located at the heart of Maadi, and most members know each other by family, like a closed community. Getting to spend time inside for non-members of the club can only be granted by an invitation/ticket offered solely by a club member.

Other facilities and services

The club has Members only private yacht club and Low key laid back place to meet with family and friends. It also offers fresh food and drinks in open air restaurants or the restaurant inside the club house, Riverside seating and a dock with easy access to the Nile.

Offers facilities for rowing, surfing, water-skiing, laser-boats, nile sailboats, sailing or yachting in general.

For kids there is a huge kids area with swing sets, monkey bars and many fun things for the kids to do

For adults there is a clubhouse with TVs, chess, backgammon and card games. The club also has saunas.

The sports club also offers a parking area, maintenance of sports equipment and cleaning

The sports club has many skilled employees, security, staff, workers, and every need is controlled within an integrated system. There is a very high level of efficiency in the Maadi Sports and Yacht Club.

Club Branches

Katamya branch.

The Kattamya branch was established and opened to the public in 2011. The most important characteristic of this vibrant branch is that it hosts equestrian sports after their transfer from the main branch, besides including a number of other sports such as football and tennis.

Maadi Branch

The majority of the suburb’s residents were foreigners, English dignitaries, and a few Egyptians, due to the fact that the English were the ones who established the Delta Land Company. This policy succeeded, the company’s lands became popular, villas were built a lot, and a large number of foreigners and Egyptians came to the suburb. So the company started thinking about establishing a club as a way to attract the largest possible number of foreigners and Egyptians to the suburb of Maadi. In 1921, a club was established that included an 18-hole golf course, three tennis courts and a swimming pool, and then it was called the Maadi Sports Club. And then they began to increase the various stadiums in the club.

Yacht Branch

Since the suburb was known for the beauty of its geographical location and proximity to the Nile, some dignitaries thought about setting up a club dedicated to watersports. They were able to buy some of land from Delta Land Company and the Maadi Yacht club was inaugurated in 1946 and all its facilities. After that a shooting venue was added. Then finally the sports for which the club was built were launched such as rowing and sailing.

Sports Activities

Maadi Club Squash Academy was established in 1920, and it is one of the largest squash academies in Egypt. There are 8 squash courts. The academy has a strong base of youth teams and unique talents. More than 197 players are trained in the academy with the help of 14 coaches.

The club’s tennis courts hold frequent international tournaments

There are more than 14 players, and there is a hall dedicated to training in the game of billiards in the club, with the help of 6 coaches

The Maadi Volleyball Academy was established in 1940, and it is one of the largest volleyball academies in Egypt with a total of 4 stadiums. The academy has a strong base of youth teams and the academy trains more than 219 players with the help of 10 coaches

The Maadi Football Academy was established in 1920, and it is one of the largest football academies in Egypt. There are 11 football fields and two five-a-side fields. The academy has a strong base of youth teams and the academy trains more than 504 players with the help of 24 coaches

Padel Tennis

The Maadi Table Tennis Academy was established in 2000, and it is one of the largest games in the club, and there is more than one training hall.

Maadi Swimming Club Academy was established in 2000, it is one of the biggest games in the club and there are 2 swimming pools for training. The academy has a strong base of youth teams and unique talents, and more than 42 players are trained in the academy with the help of 10 coaches, and there is a base for players of determination consisting of 1,547 players with the assistance of 23 coaches.

Four clubs, four communities: The Maadi Club

Community sporting clubs are a deeply entrenched pillar of the city of Cairo. Sporting, hunting, yacht and soccer-based clubs are scattered around suburbs and communities throughout the greater city.

The largest and oldest of these clubs are the Gezira Sporting Club, the Maadi Club, the Heliopolis Club and the Shooting (Seid) Club in Mohandiseen. These clubs stand out as community gathering places and incubators for young, talented athletes. The four cater to the middle and upper-middle classes of Cairo, providing a haven from the chaos of the city.

With our previous story on the Gezira Sporting Club, we have the next three weeks to take a closer look at the three remaining clubs — their histories, their communities and their political and social functions.

It’s 8 am and the club is relatively quiet — a group of older gentlemen set up for a dominoes game on the bamboo tables near the entrance as the waiter, in uniform, circles around, taking orders and offering doses of respect and admiration.

Following the winding footpath through gardens and playing fields is a peaceful process in the morning — no chatter, no children. The gardening staff tend to the flowers and early-morning tennis players exchange serves and returns with routine like precision.

The club evolves gradually; the old melding in with the club’s natural environment, the new popping out in bright colors. The floaters in the new water polo pool are striking red, but the old basketball courts are disappearing into the shrubbery in the back corner by the fourth gate.

One of the most unchanging parts of the Maadi Club is the croquet field and the buildings that surround it. Two hair salons — one for men and one for women — are housed in the back of the club house, facing the croquet field. People gather around the court to watch players and talk politics, sipping the club’s lemonade with mint.

The mosque at the Maadi Club serves as a gathering place on Fridays. Men meet for Friday prayers and continue for breakfast in the clubhouse or in the sitting area by the entrance.

The Maadi Sporting and Yacht Club was founded in 1921 as a club for the British citizens living in Maadi. Stories from Maadi residents that date back to the ‘30s talk of swimming trainer Ibrahim and the horses in the Maadi Club stables.

“Back then, the club manager lived in a villa in the middle of the club premises,” says Hussein Abdel Azim, the current manager of the Maadi Club.

In the ‘20s, the club’s premises ranged from Victoria (now Victory) College in present day Degla to the Nile. Now, the club’s main residence is bordered by Golf Street and Demeshk, cornered by Suares Square. Five gates offer entrance to the club — catering to the children’s play area, the gym and the back of the pool on one side, the main entrance on another and the notary entrance on a third.

The Yacht Club on the Nile is a part of the club that acts as a marina for 20-some parked boats owned by members of the club. At the Yacht Club, you can order what is known as typical “club food” — breaded veal escalope and mini oven macaroni casseroles with bechamel and ground beef.

Elections for club leadership were held in 2011 and, despite strong campaigns by Islamist members of the club, were won by a more secular set of candidates. For many in Maadi, this signified a social victory for a community that feels threatened by the lifestyle changes promised by Islamist members of Parliament.

“The Maadi Club members grew up together,” explains Hedy Ismail, a Maadi resident. “Although we’ve grown apart over the years, we came together to protect the club and it worked.”

Things to do in Maadi: Cairo’s Cute + Leafy Foodie Suburb

When I first got to Maadi I was in disbelief that I was still, in fact, in Cairo. With the quiet streets, gum trees spilling out onto the roads, walkable grassy parks, cute cafes and beautiful homes I thought I had been transported to another hemisphere entirely.

I instantly fell in love with this place and all the things to do in Maadi – involving nature, food, and the cutest neighborhood streets and shops.

Maadi is known for having European design, housing some foreign embassies, and also being home to tons of expats and different demographics of locals too. It just feels different here – with the range of different people around, different styles of design, and the strange absence of non-stop honking and Cairo craziness.

The one thing Maadi has against it is its location, at least 20-30 minutes away from pretty much everything else in Cairo. But if you are after a bit of a different and slower Cairo vibe with a touch of green and a lot of delicious food, this might be the place for you.

Things to do in Maadi Cairo: Streets, Shopping + Food

Most guides and articles about Maadi involve a LOT of food, so I’ll follow suit and begin with the good stuff: food in Maadi. With multi-cultural residents comes multi-cultural food – and it’s high quality, too.

Wander the Length of Road 9

Road 9 is the long road lined with Maadi’s main attractions – shops, restaurants, cafes, courtyards, and more. The northern part of road 9 north of the train station is a bit busier with more chain cafes and restaurants like Costa, Pizza Hut, and more.

The southern part of road 9 feels more like you’re wandering around a smaller suburb – with some local spots and tons of restaurants and places to hang out. Road 9 has a lot of quirky little shops to wander through as well, and you can even find some coworking spaces.

Explore Street 213 + Try More Food

Found about 15 blocks east of Street 9 is Maadi’s other ‘main’ area centered around the even leafier Street 213. If you thought the restaurants and cafes on Rd 9 were cute and trendy, wait until you SEE Street 213.

Street 213 is lined in the middle with greenery and sprawls out in all directions with even more trendy and modern restaurants and even MORE plants too! This street actually reminded me of walking around one end of Playa del Carmen in Mexico, which I never expected from Cairo.

Grab a Coffee + Chill at one of the Cute Cafes in Maadi

Maadi definitely has the highest concentration of cute cafes in Cairo. Cute cafes are my weakness when I travel; I love to work from cafes with my laptop or just try different coffee as I explore.

Some of the best spots around are Espresso Lab (huge space perfect for coworking, near Street 213), Cafe Greco (one of the oldest cafes in Maadi), Bardo Clubhouse (super cool outdoor fairy-lit patio), Wanted Cafe (Western themed coffee + food), and Coffee Corner (another cute cafe).

Try some Asian Food in Maadi

Haven’t had enough of the things to eat in Maadi yet? It’s also famous for having tons of great Asian restaurants too! Some of the best are Mori Sushi , Joy Luck Chinese , Asian Corner , and Dragon House Restaurant .

Eat at Some of Maadi’s Famous Restaurants

It’s hard to know which Maadi restaurants to recommend first. There are more popping up on every corner, each one cuter than the last. But I can’t write about things to do in Maadi without mentioning Mermaid , which is an authentic wood-lined restaurant that has looked nearly the same since the 80’s – a true Maadi staple.

For Italian food check out La Rosa or Ovio , or Rustica down by the corniche on the river. For a delicious high-quality and affordable meal in a garden setting (and my favorite hotel), check out Villa Belle Epoque . After dinner, stop off at local favorite Caracas for shisha or Stavolta’s for gelato.

Hit some Cool Bars in Maadi

Maadi doesn’t have the craziest nightlife scene like in other parts of Cairo, but there are definitely some lively bars that are perfect for a few drinks.

Frank & Co is a super cute bar with an outdoor patio. Red Onion is a local favorite dive bar perfect for a few beers in a casual setting.

Visit Some Maadi Bookstores

Maadi actually has quite a few bookstores of all different kinds. The most unique is the Al Kotob Khan Bookstore , which is actually also a coffee shop with wifi, events, and even workshops going on at their tables amongst the books.

The Maadi Used Bookstore is a cool thrifty bookshop where you can get cheap used books. It’s always an adventure with what kinds of books you can find.

Hit a Gym or Workout Class

Maadi has a LOT of great gyms, workout classes, and organized outdoor workouts. It’s Cairo’s base for this kind of thing, and there are SO many options! Check out Fit Factory outdoor training or Club 7 for group workout classes, or Maadi Sports and Yacht Club or Wadi Degla Sporting Club for sports and more.

Tings to Do in Maadi: Nature + Outdoors

Maadi has more things to do outside than anywhere else I have been in Cairo! Here are the best.

Walk through Maadi’s Residential Parks

Residential parks and Cairo are two things I never thought would go together. But Maadi actually has plenty of green, grassy tree-covered parks and squares that are far removed from Cairo’s craziness. Go on a stroll or have a picnic in a green area in Maadi.

Maadi Dog Park 

The dogs in Maadi seem much happier than the rest of Cairo – both the ones with owners and the street dogs! But if you want to pat and play with some dogs living their best lives in the dog park, the Maadi Dog Park is the place to be – even if just stopping by between cafes!

Walk along the Maadi Corniche (Boardwalk) at Sunset 

Maadi actually has a lovely corniche , or riverside beach boardwalk, where you can walk along the Nile. As sunset is across the river, it’s perfect for sunset!

Walk along sand see some Nile views that are much more uninterrupted than other parts of Cairo. There are also a lot of restaurants right on the water to relax at with a view too.

Boat Ride on the Nile

Sunset walk not enough? You can also take a boat ride on the Nile right from the Maadi corniche for less than 100LE per person! Zoom around on the Nile for an hour for a great afternoon adventure, date idea, or just something new.

Maadi Island

Just north of the Maadi Corniche is Maadi Island! It’s a tiny Nile island covered in green parks and a couple restauarants with 360 views of the Nile. Take a stroll, get some food, or picnic in the park on Maadi island.

Wadi Degla Protectorate

One of the most incredible things to do in Maadi is visit the Wadi Degla Protectorate. I had no idea there could be a place so CLOSE to Cairo that felt so FAR from civilization. This protectorate dates back over 30 million years – with rocks and a canyon originating from an ancient ocean from which you can still find parts of shells!

You might want a car to fully explore this area, which goes back miles into a canyon with amazing hikes, caves, and more to explore. The sound from Cairo’s craziness is fully blocked by the beautiful mountains; it’s a perfect spot to get away.

Where to Stay in Maadi Cairo

Villa belle epoque .

I only need one option for where to stay in Maadi because it’s SUCH an easy choice: Villa Belle Epoque! If you have the budget for a more upscale (yet worthwhile) boutique hotel, STAY HERE! It’s one of my favorite places in Maadi to stay, eat a meal, or just hang out.

Villa Belle Epoque was built from a restored old 1920’s estate that still retains a lot of the original furniture and touches. It has two lovely plant-covered courtyards with a pool and tables for their restaurant (which I already recommended above – great value). It’s steps from Road 9, but you won’t want to leave the property’s amazing alluring feel.

I go to the club every day, and from what i see I think it is great. It has most of the sports you can train, also it has many playgrounds for children, the population is a bit to much for the club but other than that its great.

Members only private yacht club. Low key laid back place to meet with family and friends. Fresh food and drinks, Riverside seating, dock with easy access to Nile.

Probably the best place along the Maadi Nile Corniche to have lunch, coffee or to just sit down and gaze at sunsets...But if youre into sports like rowing, surfing, water-ski, lazer-boats or nile sailboats... Sailing or yachting in general... Then that is the best place on all of Cairo to do that...That ambiance and friendliness of they place makes it a if not the best icon to describe Maadi

The movement of some people in the track is in opposite direction ,and that is very terrible for us as old people walking in the track, there no any activity of security employees to manage and control the movement in the track.

Perfect Food With Some Really Good Prices

Very cozy place where you can enjoying the huge landscape and play grounds

Despite the deterioration of most club facilities and that its overcrowded, it still provides one of the best places in maadi for many leisurely activities

Ok, so its a very cozy,Membership based family friendly club with lots of activities for everyone from toddlers up to adults. For kids there is a huge kids area with swing sets, monkey bars and things for the kids to do, as for adults there is a club house with TVs chess and backgammon and cards games. Also there is quite a huge range of sports you can do from 2 different swimming pools to tennis courts and football field.

Nice place to relax, enjoy the beach. Nice restaurant too!

Delicious food and more than reasonable prices

One of the oldest social clubs in Egypt. Maadi Club is known for its social spaces and being a nice place for your kids to spend their time or for you to spend time with your family.If youre into sports, the club has pretty much all you need, whether its football, handball, basketball, squash, swimming, or tennis.

Over populated inside and outside. No fun to be there

The club is a nice place to be, Maadi club is a historical icon of Maadi yet not well preserved, it used to have a certain social level and cleanliness but now this almost is vanished.The layout isn’t as it should be and I’d definitely recommend to hire some good planner to adjust it to make use out of the space.

Its a good place to relax especially if its not crowded. Its a good place to go to when you want to go out but dont feel like eating or drinking. And you could exercise a little and walk few rounds in the track.

Good restaurant.. The menu is rather limited but the restaurant is clean and the service is good

Last time I was at the Maadi club was 1973. Went to see Mash in their open air theater. The movie wasnt all that good, but I found a 5 pound note in the verge, so it has fond memories for me.

Entrance of the club not safe for cars at night and no good parking in the front of the club

After last renovation, it is much improved and we spent good times there.

One of the best Sport clubs in Egypt, Cairo. Many choices for sport classes and activities. A great place for a family and children to do different activities safely.

Away from the crowd and traffic around the club everything is fine while you enjoy the heritage of the place and enjoy your sport

This is one of the best places that reminds me of the genuine old days of Maadi. It is continually maintained. There are many activities that can be performed such as swimming, football, kids play ground, squash, tennis, table tennis, chess, music and many more.

To be honest, I have never been inside, but I can tell that this place is a high level sport clip.And I once asked the receptionist about the subscription, he said: 700$ for six months.

One of the best-kept dining secrets at Walt Disney World is Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

In fact, this is one of my personal favorite places to dine when I want a nice dinner at Disney. 

The beautiful steakhouse is located down a quiet corridor near the pool at the hotel and is worth trying to snag a reservation for. 

If you’re thinking about dining at one of the best restaurants at Walt Disney World keep reading to learn everything you need to know, how to snag the best tables, and of course my suggestions about what to order.

What is Yachtsman Steakhouse at Walt Disney World? 

Yachtsman Steakhouse is a signature dining restaurant located at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. The restaurant is only open for dinner and is known for its incredible steaks , sides, and desserts. 

And believe me, you DON’T want to skip this Disney dining spot on your vacation!

What is the Vibe like inside Yachtsman Steakhouse?

Since the restaurant is only open for dinner the vibe is very adult. This is a great date night spot for couples , or a treat yourself type mean for solo travelers. 

You’ll feel as if you’re whisked away on a nautical escapade through the great North East of America.

The interior is quite cozy and far away from what you’d expect at a Walt Disney World restaurant.

How Do I get a reservation at Yachtsman Steakhouse? 

The easiest way to get a reservation for Yachtsman Steakhouse is through the My Disney Experience app. 

You can also make reservations on the Walt Disney World website or by calling the reservation center at Walt Disney World.

A word of warning though, the latter of the two options is not the most efficient and phone calls to Disney have been taking upwards of two hours just to talk to someone. 

If you do see a reservation for the restaurant you should go ahead and book it even if it’s not at your intended dining time, because it’s always easier to modify an existing reservation versus make a new one. 

If you decide you don’t want to dine at Yachtsman Steakhouse after you’ve reserved a table, you can cancel without penalty up to 24 hours before your reservation.

What if I Can’t get a reservation for Yachtsman Steakhouse? 

There are a few options if you can’t get a reservation for Yachtsman Steakhouse before your trip to Walt Disney World.

The first is to get to the restaurant right when it opens at 5:00 p.m. and see if you can be seated.

Another option is to eat in the nearby lounge, Crews Cup , which is currently serving the exact same menu as Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Crews Cup Lounge 

The Crews Cup Lounge is located right next door to Yachtsman Steakhouse. Its vibe is very relaxed with tables, booths, and bar seating.

This lounge used to have its own unique menu , but post-pandemic the original menu has not returned and the lounge is serving the Yachtsman Steakhouse menu. 

If you are able to snag a table inside the Crews Cup Lounge, try to get the table near the window looking into the dry-aging room at Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Through the window, you can see the steaks being expertly cut by the restaurant’s butcher for service as guests order.

What’s on the Menu at Yachtsman Steakhouse? 

Yachtsman Steakhouse only serves dinner and everything on the menu is a la carte, meaning every item you order is a certain price. 

Meals start out with a bread basket filled with savory pull-apart onion rolls and cherry multigrain sourdough rolls.

Bread Service

The bread is served with the restaurant’s signature roasted garlic and salted butter.

Yes, that means you can literally smear pieces of roasted garlic and slather butter all over these delightful breads.

When it comes to starters, I really enjoy the French Onion Soup , which is perfectly rich with plenty of onions, sourdough croutons, and topped with melted gruyère cheese. You definitely have to try the Beef Carpaccio as well.

Also the famous Caesar Salad is perfect here!

Entrees and Dessert at the Yachtsman Steakhouse

Entrees obviously mean having a steak , and no matter which one you choose it comes with a sauce or butter, and your choice of side. I always order the 14-ounce roasted prime rib with horseradish cream.

Each entree comes with your choice of accompaniment, with either mashed potatoes, potato-leek gratin, or house-made French fries. I typically choose the gratin or the fries. 

When dinner is done, do not leave the restaurant without trying one of the delicious desserts.

The signature dessert at the restaurant is the Yachtsman’s Chocolate Cake, which is made with dark chocolate mousse, chocolate cake, mixed berry curd, peanut butter crunch, and mousse, and serves two.

This is one thing I love to get even if I’m dining alone so I can take the leftovers back to my Disney hotel room and munch on them the next night too.

Yachtsman Steakhouse is a lovely option for dining at Walt Disney World, whether you’re traveling alone or going out with friends, or on a date night. 

Here are a few tips to ensure your experience at Yachtsman Steakhouse is the best that it can be. 

• Security at the front of the Yacht Club can be very strict about who they let into the parking lot at the hotel.
• If you don’t have a confirmed dining reservation at the Yachtsman Steakhouse , your better option for dining here will be to take a ride share or take the Disney Skyliner . This is best if you’re staying at one of the resorts that the transportation service goes to and from. 
• I f you’re at EPCOT and want a break from the park and think Yachtsman Steakhouse sounds like a nice place, you’ll want to walk to the back of the park to the International Gateway to get to the Yacht Club and to the restaurant.
