Feadship announces 75m superyacht concept powered entirely by fuel cells
Dutch yard Feadship has announced a new, 75-metre concept known as C, with full details to be revealed at this year's Monaco Yacht Show . The superyacht has been designed by Studio de Voogt to commemorate Feadship's 75th Diamond Anniversary.
C is inspired by the design of a diamond and how its facets reflect and magnify light, which manifests in the use of glazing to "draw light deep into the yacht's interior". Her hull shape and fully electric propulsion system marks an evolution from the shipyard's concept Breathe, revealed in 2010 and the award-winning Savannah .
This concept is predicted to be "30 per cent more efficient than a typical 75-metre yacht", according to Feadship, with dual shafts, propellers, rudders and an underwater profile tailored to produce less wake. The yacht will also follow on from Feadship's ground-breaking Project 821 by drawing 100 per cent of her power needs from fuel cells directly running on methanol and complimented by lithium-metal batteries.
Other "innovations" on board C are the partially enclosed lower deck sea lounge, to be used at anchor or underway, a beach club with sea-level dining, a duplex owner’s suite and an articulating crow’s nest rising from a private observation deck. A pair of infinity-edge hexagonal pools match the shapes of various seating areas and the atrium.
The new concept also follows on from an earlier concept, Pure, and the recently-delivered Ulysses with a fully digital command centre and navigation hub that includes "the latest in intelligent situational awareness technology with cameras and data fusion".
The yacht is expected to reach a top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots. Additional power for the hotel load will be generated passively by two pairs of wave-actuated fins that fold out from the hull aft of the anchors.

Damen sells 75m SeaXplorer
The expedition yacht concept is "a synthesis of thousands and thousands of hours of expedition cruising". ….
Damen has announced the sale of the second hull in the SeaXplorer series – a 75.2m luxury expedition yacht with exceptional sea-going capabilities. Justifiably, the SeaXplorer is proving to be a popular concept; it is leaps and bounds ahead of most out-and-out expedition yacht designs from an operational standpoint.
Damen expects the owner will take delivery in the second half of 2020. The 2,500-gross ton vessel will feature a below-deck hangar for two helicopters. Unpredictable and inadequately mapped terrain can be perilous, so a back-up helicopter becomes more of a necessity than a luxury; it also demonstrates just how far afield this owner is thinking of going.
“Our partnership with Damen on the SeaXplorer concept was fantastic because it’s one of the first times a leading yacht builder has sought expert advice in terms of what’s required of an expedition yacht,” explained Tim Soper, of EYOS Expeditions, in an exclusive conversation with SuperyachtNews .
“I think Damen was originally expecting a dozen or so suggestions, but we gave them 155 – and all of them have been incorporated into the concept,” added Rob McCallum, also of EYOS Expeditions. “Every single suggestion was a lesson learnt from another vessel and it’s a synthesis of thousands and thousands of hours of expedition cruising.”
In addition to providing operations for two helicopters, the 75m vessel will also feature a dive centre (with a changing room, dry room, tank store and compressor room etc.); a submersible hangar; a toy store; a tender garage for a 10.5m landing craft; retractable zero-speed stabilisers for use in icy conditions; and, among other notable features, huge tank deck provisions stores and garbage management.
The original spec for the 65m SeaXplorer concept (SX 65) comprised accommodation for 12 guests and 20 crew. This vessel will have the same accommodation capacity and five additional crew, suggesting that the extra 10m in length and 500gt in volume are for life and performance-enhancing features.
Explorer yacht designs continue to be to the tastes of many of today’s owners, yet the market is littered with yachts dubbed ‘explorers’, that do not serve their intended purpose. This is fine if the owners are pottering around the usual stomping grounds, such as the French Riviera, but traversing the globe is a different story.
It’s not about how far you can go, but for how long. Damen has spent considerable time looking at self-sufficiency at sea, taking into account key expedition yacht design challenges: autonomy and endurance, seakeeping and icebreaking, safety and the environment, the yachting lifestyle and expedition logistics.
While we are yet to see the SeaXplorer’s functionality in practice, you can’t argue that Damen has been proactive in formulating a concept that mitigates the existing challenges of cruising in unchartered territories.

The first pavilion of Crocus Expo IEC hosted an extraordinary exposition of the 5th International exhibition of yachts and boats Moscow Boat Show. The show had been incredibly famous for five years already not only thanks to the specialists of the market segment as well as professional sportsmen but also thanks to those who consider sailing sport to be their hobby and well cherished dream.
Moscow Boat Show 2012
The organizer of the project was the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre. The show was supported by Aston Martin Moscow, Burevestnik Group logistics department and the Yachting specialized magazine.
The exposition space increased up to 30 000 sq m and was accommodated in all 4 exhibition halls of the fairgrounds! 280 Russian (Arkhangelsk, Vyborg, Kazan, Kaluga, Republic of Karelia, Moscow and Moscow region, Nizhny Novgorod, Novorossiysk, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg, Sverdlovsk region, Sochi, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen and Yaroslavl region) and foreign ( Denmark , Germany , Holland , Greece , Spain , Italy , Cyprus , China , Latvia , Poland , USA , Turkey , Ukraine, Finland , France , Montenegro and Croatia ) companies participate in the show.
Moscow Boat Show provided the perfect platform from which to preview new products, evaluate market trends, and establish long-lasting and commercially profitable partnerships. Despite the dynamic changes taking place in Russia and the rapid growth of the yachting sector, the show continued to complement and reflect the industry’s demand and is a promotional opportunity not to be missed!
Unique exhibits were presented at the show for the first time: exposition of private submarines from U-Boat Russia company, Marquis Yachts 420 SB motor yacht from Sport Bridge S. Marine series, SAGA-415 yacht from Saga Boats Norwegian shipyard, Jetlev-Flyer from MS Watersports.
Moscow Boat Show a Great Success
More than 400 yachts were displayed within the frames of the event including the largest boats ever exhibited in Russia – the 19-meter giant motor yacht Princess 54 as well as the Princess 50 yacht from Nord Marine and Baja speed boat from Burevestnik.
Domfinland OY unveiled a luxury project from Finnish real estate: a seaside premium class hotel in Hanko named consonant with the location Merihanko.
The trade fair was traditionally opened by a Gala Opening Ceremony. Arcady Zlotnikov, First Deputy Director Crocus Expo IEC, was the first to take the floor at the official opening ceremony. He greeted warmly exhibitors, guests and visitors of Moscow Boat Show. Nikolay Krjuchek, Deputy Chief of the State Inspection on Small size Vessels (GIMS) of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Russia, Georguiy Shaiduko, Acting President of the Russian Yachting Federation (VFPS), Olympic champion in Atlanta and Ekaterina Grishechkina, Director of exhibition Moscow Boat Show also spoke at the ceremony.
The high-ranking guests noted dynamic development of the branch which well reasoned the intensive growth of the exposition and appearance of rather unique “gems”.
A number of business meetings and negotiations were held within the frames of the project: the exhibition was visited by a large delegation of Greek businessmen for the purpose of establishment of mutually beneficial cooperation with the Russian colleagues.
More than 400 yachts on display at the Show
Russian Yachting Federation (VFPS) celebrated its 100 anniversary within the frames of Moscow Boat Show and arranged an exposition of future sailing sport museum (rare awards, gifts, articles from private collections, pictures and etc.) which had been collected since 1912.
Due to carefully chosen running dates the show was visited by more than 26 000 people. The majority of the visitors were of targeted audience – vessel owners and specialists of the branch.
The work at the next edition of the show is under way! The show will be held in March 2013. The overall exhibit space will comprise 40 000 sq m. The exhibition will impress with exclusive exhibits and the latest technological achievements.
Moscow Boat Show was not only an entertaining but at the same time a business promotional event. Participation in the trade fair was a unique opportunity to present a company and products to a distinctly selected targeted audience of industry specialists. They were well prepared to discuss business in the Russian market and even to close a deal on-site.
The show helped representatives of yachting business to get acquainted with their Russian colleagues and gradually improved national yachting market to a new level. It is obvious that for 5 years of its running the project has turned to a status event of the international exhibitions calendar.
