Princess Yachts' Y95 model

Comparing the superyacht models leading the Princess fleet

Perhaps traditionally known for its sub-24-metre boats, British builder Princess Yachts has established itself in the luxury superyacht scene with striking yachts in its M Class series. But it was when Princess first unveiled a completely new design concept with the X Class and the X95 that the Plymouth builder truly created a stir within the 24-metre-plus segment.

The design of X95 was not just a departure from anything previously created by the British yard, it also allowed for volumes you might find on a 35-metre yacht – although it remained under the flag classification rules at 29 metres.

Today, the X95 is joined by her sibling the Y95. Yet while the 29.1-metre yachts use the same hull structure and engineering platform, the layouts are dramatically different. The Y95, typified by a beautiful, but traditional raised-pilothouse design, has an open flybridge and hence plenty of exterior space. The X95, on the other hand, has been marketed as a "space age"-styled yacht with an enclosed flybridge and a single enclosed helm.

With that in mind, it can be hard to know which of the models is the right one for you. Will it be an open or enclosed flybridge? Will it be a master suite on the main deck or an open-plan "country kitchen"? An enclosed skylounge or more exterior space? BOAT   unpacks the defining features behind the builder's iconic superyacht range.

The X95 "Super Flybridge" and the Y95 open bridge

The key difference between the X95 Vista and Y95 is the flybridge. On the Y95, there is an open flybridge area featuring a flybridge helm and a raised pilot house. This differs from the X95 Vista, which has an enclosed flybridge and a single enclosed helm, freeing up space to allow the flybridge and main deck interior to cover almost the full length of the yacht. This creates the X Class's defining characteristic: the "Super Flybridge". This layout design provides 10 per cent more outdoor space and 40 per cent more indoor space than a traditional motor yacht, making the X95 Vista perfect for those who wish to spend extended time on board and voyage further afield.

Meanwhile, architectural innovations on the Y95 create a vast, asymmetric flybridge layout. To starboard you will find the upper helm with twin helm seats, while a forward-facing L-shaped seating area is to port. Aft of this, she offers a large deck area for free-standing furniture and a dining table that seats 10 along with a fully equipped bar with twin barbecue, hob, drawer refrigerator and a large pop-up outdoor TV.

Guests can enjoy superyacht space on the X95 Vista's main deck with a line of sight, on the standard configuration, through the forward windows and new open bow design which provides panoramic views. Accessed via an internal staircase, the upper deck is where the magic happens: the fully enclosed and climate-controlled sky lounge is the perfect place to soak up sea views while being sheltered from the elements. Outdoor dining and seating can be found on the aft section of the X95 Vista together with a second sundeck forward where a large seating area and sunpad or optional spa bath is situated.

Owners who opt for the X Class can choose between a main deck master suite or an open-plan "country kitchen". If this is the case, the full-beam master can be located on the lower deck, complemented by a forward stateroom with a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite bathroom. Further port and starboard guest cabins can also be found on the lower deck, all on a single level which helps to make the lower deck feel enormous.

On the Y95, the full-beam master suite is found on the main deck and bathes in natural light thanks to the addition of skylights. Below deck, four further beautifully appointed ensuite cabins host guests, whilst crew accommodation is situated aft of the machinery space and includes an ensuite captain’s cabin and bunk cabin. Numerous interior configurations are possible thanks to its innovative interior layout and increased volume afforded by the new hull design.

Owners also have the choice of a beach club on both models or a dedicated garage that provides storage for a Sea-Doo Spark (or equivalent), plus numerous other water toys.

Form and function

Speaking about the company's strategy, Princess Yachts' sales director, Simon Colebrooke, explains: “The X95 was designed to appeal to a whole new generation of Princess owners and to those that might want to extend their stays on board, such is the space the layout generates. The Y95 builds on the best attributes of the X Class, appealing to our heartland, with a strong focus on elegant design and modern boating life. The Y95’s design is a classic example of form and function that beautifully come together to create our largest Y Class yacht.”

The Y95 offers spacious outdoor living spaces that are comparable to larger yachts and an interior more aligned with Princess Yachts' M Class boats. Thanks to side door access on the flybridge, the yacht feels more spacious than a typical 30-metre. It also provides guests with a simple transition to the foredeck area, the perfect place for soaking up the sun's rays.

Having an enclosed skybridge on the X95 Vista affords different benefits – including the enclosed and climate-controlled sky lounge on the X95 Vista, suitable for different weather conditions. Recently redesigned to align with Princess’ latest exterior styling, the X95 Vista also features a new single-piece hull window that stretches the length of her profile.

Also enhancing her exterior design is the redesigned bow structure, which has been opened up. Guests can now enjoy panoramic views from the forward windows of the main deck or from the sanctuary of the foredeck seating area, which provides the perfect haven to sit and take in the surroundings.

Powered by twin MAN V12-2000 engines, both models can reach top speeds of up to 23 knots.

Princess Yachts reports “disappointing” results

Despite losses incurred due to supply chain issues, the british boatbuilder is optimistic for the 2023 financial year….

princess yachts sky news

Princess Yachts has recorded millions in losses in its recently released results for the fiscal year ending on December 31st, 2022. Despite this, the British shipbuilder is optimistic about its business prospects in 2023, having navigated significant disruptions to its operations and securing investment.

Princess Yachts reported a slight increase in its annual turnover, climbing from £308m in 2021 to £315m in 2022. However, a surge in operating costs during this period led to Princess Yachts experiencing an EBITDA decline, moving from a loss of £200,000 in 2021 to a loss of £25.7m by the end of 2022.

This was mainly due to supply chain challenges, with some partially built boats having to be temporarily taken out of construction. This resulted in increased financial working capital requirements and delays in project completion, all while incurring substantial retrofitting costs.

The most affected components included large items such as engines, generators, electrical panels, and air conditioning equipment, which often arrived months behind schedule.

The financial impact of this has been somewhat mitigated as the company secured additional capital to enhance its production efficiency and expand its capacity. Following its acquisition by KPS Partners earlier this year, there has been a cash injection of £53.7m into the group to support working capital and future growth.

“Looking forward with the transfer of ownership to KPS Capital Partners in March 2023, the Board of Directors look to embrace their manufacturing and transformation expertise along with financial support, to evaluate short-term and strategic opportunities for the company within the marine sector,” says company CEO, Will Green.

Princess Yachts also announced plans to invest £35m in new product development and £5m in expanding its primary South Yard Facility in Plymouth.

In terms of the shipyard’s outlook for the future, Princess Yachts has invested £14.7m in product development and introduced three new models, including the Princess Y95 (pictured). The shipyard further unveiled plans to introduce three new models in 2023, with three more slated for 2024.

These new models have translated into prospective commercial success, resulting in an order book of over £750m as of July 2023, with deliveries scheduled up to 2025. Alongside its expanding capacity, Princess Yachts anticipates that these developments will be the driving factors behind to its long-term growth strategy.

Ninety staff could lose their jobs at Princess Yachts

Tuesday, May 21st, 2024

Written by: Zella Compton

A Princess Yacht in the water

Princess Yachts is due to start consulting with its workforce and representatives shortly about redundancies, with up to 90 employees at risk of losing their jobs. The company is said to be looking to create a ‘leaner and more agile organisation’ with the employees affected all being office-based support or management. This comes as, like many, Princess was hit with supply issues.

The company made national news in 2016, when it announced it was cutting 172 jobs . Then it had a staff of around 2,000. The Plymouth Herald currently estimates Princess Yachts’ workforce at 3,000, and says fewer than three per cent of the total workforce is affected. No shop floor manufacturing workers are included.

When the company was bought by KPS (US investor) in Feb 2023 , Ryan Harrison, a partner said significant investments would be made to “accelerate Princess’ growth trajectory and fund numerous investments for its future.”

Will Green, the company’s new chief executive officer, took up his role in August last year . He’s been with the company for 20 years, and was cited as being instrumental in driving the sustained period of commercial success. At the time he told MIN he wanted to focus on “what we do best – building exceptional yachts for our customers.”

Order book strong amid redundancy worries

In 2023, Princess Yachts had orders to manufacture more than £750m of vessels, with the work expected to stretch into 2026. However, that success of driving demand has come at a cost, with the company’s ability to meet demand suffering significantly due to supply issues.

“This restructure comes after an extensive business review as we look to improve efficiencies and strengthen our business operations,” a spokesperson told media. “While we remain commercially strong with a healthy order book, we have not been immune to the industry-wide supply issues, and our ability to meet demand has suffered significantly as a result.

“Making any changes that directly affect people’s roles is always difficult and we have worked hard to ensure this disruption is kept to a minimum. But we have a responsibility to all our staff to ensure we have a profitable and sustainable business that is able to withstand any future headwinds. I am confident that with the plans we now have in place, together with what remains to be one of the strongest product offerings in the industry, we will have that resilience for the long-term future of the business.

“From a sales point of view we are among the strongest, if not the strongest, in the industry.”

Last year, Princess Yachts (based in Plymouth since 1965) posted a £69m pre-tax loss, which it said was due to inflation and supply chain issues.

New model for Princess Yachts, and bridge disaster

The yacht manufacturer revealed details of its new Princess F58 at the Palm Beach International Boat Show earlier this year. The first F58 will go into production later in 2024 and make its global debut in early 2025. The 18.2-metre Princess F58 is the latest addition to the yard’s F-Class flybridge series, sitting between the F55 and the series flagship, the F65.

More recently, people were left surprised after a large yacht — understood to be a 15-metre Princess F50 — caused a traffic jam when it became stuck underneath a railway bridge .

Sky Princess Review

Review of sky princess.

The 2019-built Sky Princess cruise ship is the 4th Royal-class vessel in the Princess Cruises fleet, together with the fleet mates Royal Princess (2013), Regal Princess (2014), Majestic Princess (2017), Enchanted Princess (2021) and Discovery Princess (2022). From the same class is also the P&O UK liner Britannia (2015).

The vessel (IMO number 9802396) is currently Bermuda- flagged (MMSI 310780000) and registered in Hamilton .

History - construction and ownership

Princess Cruises is a USA-based passenger shipping company headquartered in Beverly Hills CA. A former subsidiary of P&O Princess Cruises (1977-founded), in 2003, the company merged with Carnival Corporation - the world's largest cruise shipowner. Among Princess Cruise Lines Ltd's assets is the Caribbean private island resort Princess Cays (on Bahamas Eleuthera Island's southern end), located approx 80 km (50 mi) from Nassau .

Sky Princess cruise ship

The 3600-passenger ship Sky Princess is among the largest cruise ships sailing the seas. The vessel was built at Fincantieri shipyard, Italy and has 19 decks. Sky Princess features an impressive number (16) of bars and restaurants and a luxury spa. The ship offers unique features to her guests, such as a glass-enclosed walkway over the ocean known as the SeaWalk.

Decks and Cabins

Sky Princess staterooms (1834 total, in 38 categories) include 1438 cabins (80% of all) with step-out balconies. The ship also has 36 wheelchair-accessible and no Oceanview-category cabins. The largest are the 2-Room Sky Suites (950-1010 ft2 / 88-94 m2 plus 700 ft2 / 65 m2 terrace).

The boat has 18 decks , of which 15 are passenger-accessible and 10 with cabins.

Sky Suites (new cabin category) are Princess Cruises first staterooms for 5 people and with 270-degree top-deck views. These are also the fleet's largest cabins and with the fleet's largest balconies. Both Sky Suites are located midship on Sports Deck 18 (portside and starboard). Each Sky Suite has a wraparound terrace and provides a private view of the outdoor "Movies Under the Stars" theatre (fleet's biggest outdoor LED screen).

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

There are many for-fee dining options onboard Sky Princess, but guests who would rather not pay are offered enough quality and variety to satisfy. Those who prefer tradition will choose between the three main dining rooms: Allegro, Concerto and Symphony.

Princess Cruises new ship design (Lido restaurant)

Horizon Court and Horizon Bistro are the buffet options, providing a more casual vibe. Passengers who want to have lunch in their swimsuits can take a burger from Trident Grill or a slice at Prego Pizzeria. Indoors, Alfredo's features delicious calzones, salads and thin-crust pizza. Allegro Dining Room is the only option for free dinner with traditional set dining. Passengers can eat at 5:45 p.m. or 8:15 p.m. Allegro's menus are diverse and offer a soup or salad course, an appetizer, pasta and an entree. There is also a special dessert menu.

Follows the complete list of Sky Princess restaurants and food bars.

  • Crown Grill (160-seat steakhouse/seafood restaurant, reservations recommended; on select days serves British Pub Lunch, complimentary)
  • Salty Dog Grill (Deck 5) and Alfredo's Pizzeria (Deck 7/fleet's largest) are self-serve complimentary fast food venues. The rustic Salty Dog Gastropub is a new venue where passengers can watch sporting events, gather over small bites and drinks, and partake in Ernesto Burger by chef-partner Ernesto Uchimura (founding chef of the original Umami Burger and owner of the new LA-based restaurant and bar, Electric Owl).
  • Calypso Cabana (food bar offering picnic baskets, desserts, champagne and wine packages)
  • World Fresh Marketplace (self-service buffet restaurant, complimentary); Horizon Buffet (indoor sitting) and Horizon Terrace (outdoor seating)
  • Swirls Bar (ice cream)

Sabatini’s Trattoria (a la carte-priced specialty restaurant on Deck 7) offers a 3-course Italian/seafood menu. Sabatini’s is open between 6 pm - 11 pm, and reservations are recommended. This space blends the spaciousness of a contemporary setting with classic Italian accents, featuring handmade pasta courses (via partnership with celebrity chef Angelo Auriana) which are prepared daily. Sabatini’s Trattoria also offers “Sabatini’s Bites” during wine tastings.

Bistro Sur La Mer (cover charge US$35 per person) was an authentic Parisian bistro with a fine dining dinner menu featuring French cuisine by Michelin-star chef Emmanuel Renaut. In 2023, La Mer was replaced with "The Catch by Rudi" - Princess Cruises' first seafood-dedicated restaurant (introduced on Enchanted Princess) via partnership with celebrity chef Rudi Sodamin, who is also the Head of Princess Culinary Arts (onboard dining program).

  • The menu is predominantly of seafood dishes based on the freshest catch (sustainably sourced seafood from the current itinerary's ports of call) but also includes surf-and-turf options (including prime beef steaks), as well as vegetarian dishes, gourmet appetizers and desserts.
  • The specialty dining experience features creative and engaging food presentations, distinctive settings, and guests being welcomed at the tables with a cocktail crafted by Rob Floyd/celebrity mixologist and liquid chef).
  • The menu features "The Daily Catch" items (showcasing the freshest sustainably sourced seafood from local ports of call), international fusion influences (playful twists on seafood favorites like Asian-fried calamari), Rudi Sodamin's contemporary interpretations of classic dishes (like lobsters with garlic butter crust), and signature inventions from his personal repertoire (like Towering Trio, Whole Dover Sole). The Seafood Trolly is a true feast as the dish is piled high with fresh lobster tails, shrimps, oysters, mussels, and other seafood.
  • The Catch by Rudi's wine selection is carefully curated to pair with seafood. The waitstaff is knowledgeable (sommelier instructed) to offer recommendations for white, red, rose, and sparkling wines from various coastal wine-growing regions.

The Catch by Rudi's cover charge is US$39 pp and is also included in the Princess Premier package (premium add-on).

In April 2024 Princess Cruises announced that starting September 14th (2024) fleetwide would be introduced 3 distinct main dining/dinner table service options – Traditional, Reservable, and Walk-in Anytime. By the new program (introduced with Sun Princess) on each ship are allocated 3 separate dining rooms - one for Traditional dining (offering early and late dinner seating), one with Reservable times, and one for Walk-in Anytime (open-seating). The new options are integrated with the OceanNow service, allowing anything to be ordered anytime, and delivered anywhere onboard.

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

The bulk of performance action takes place in the 2-level Princess Theater (decks 6 and 7). This is the ship's main show lounge with palladium-style seating and grand-style evening show productions.

Princess Cruises new ship design (Theater Lounge)

Theatre lounge doesn't offer tables or drink holders, so if you order one preshow or come with a drink, you'll have to hold it. The entertainment program is excellent and varied, with a beat that is quite innovative. In addition to the production shows, the Princess theatre hosts other acts including vocalists and instrumentalists.

In comparison to Royal-Class Princess ships, Sky Princess has the new Wakeview swimming pool (aft-located) plus 2 deep-water top deck swimming pools and Retreat Pool (adults-only), also more Jacuzzis (including 2 cantilevered, over the deep-water pools). The expanded Sanctuary area offers new design and twice as many private cabanas as the sisterships. Vista Lounge is also redesigned. Princess Live is a new cafe serving quick bites, specialty teas and barista-made coffees.

Princess Cruises new ship design

Follows the complete list of Sky Princess lounges, clubs and other entertainment venues for kids, teens and adults.

Custom media content is displayed on lounge's TV screens.

On the sisterships Enchanted and Sky, Princess Cruises introduced the exclusive "Jim Henson’s Inspired Silliness" - a 30-min live production show themed on Jim Henson’s hilarious puppetry works. James Maury Henson (1936-1990) was a US puppeteer, animator, cartoonist, actor and filmmaker best-known as the creator of "The Muppets" (TV show created in 1955). The cruise company's new production show (hosted at Princess Theater) includes singers and dancers, high-tech visuals, comedy acts and professional puppetry. The show starts with a video introduction by James Henson's son (Brian) and features new puppets from Henson’s Creature Shop plus newly designed characters.

The Experience Center (Deck 18 aft-starboard) has max capacity 6 people and no age restrictions. This is ship's Escape Room hosting the "Phantom Bridge" game that combines physical and virtual/digital elements for unique puzzle-solving experiences at sea. The attraction is part of Princess Cruises' onboard enrichment program (Discovery at SEA) and offers interactive (real-world + virtual) adventure gaming experiences with 700+ different outcomes. Phantom Bridge's gaming sessions last 23 min each and allow passengers to navigate the virtual cruise liner, watch as the generated simulations change, uncover the clues and solve puzzles (current game's mystery). The implemented technologies include a physical steering wheel and touch-screen surfaces (in the room), projection mapping, top-notch sound-, lighting- and digital effects, hidden physical elements (throughout the ship).

The vessel's powerplant includes four Wartsila marine diesel engines (model 46F, 2x 12V and 2x 14V) with combined power output 62,4 MW (83,700 hp). The propulsion system is based on two azipods with combined power output 18 MW (24,000 hp).

The ship has Fincantieri Monfalcone yard/hull number 6268, volume 145281 GT-tons, DWT-deadweight tonnage 11772 tons, LOA length 330 m, beam 38 m (max width 47 m/including the Navigation Bridge's wings), max draught 8,6 m.

In April 2016, Princess Cruises (via Carnival Corporation ) signed a shipbuilding order for 2 new liners , scheduled for deliveries in 2019 (Sky) and 2020 ( Enchanted ). These are 4th and 5th Royal-class ships (same-designed as Royal, Regal and Majestic ) constructed at Fincantieri Monfalcone shipyard as part of a previous agreement between Carnival Corporation (shipowner) and Fincantieri (shipbuilder). At that time, Carnival Corp had a total of 16 shipbuilding orders, with scheduled deliveries between 2016-2020. All these new liners are fleet's largest and feature Movies Under the Stars (outdoor theatre), Piazza Atrium, 80% balconied staterooms, new dining venues.

Princess Cruises new ship design

In late-January 2017, Carnival Corporation announced 2 more shipbuilding orders. The new ships were ordered for the fleets of Princess (Royal-class / Discovery Princess ) and Holland America Line (Pinnacle-class / Nieuw Rotterdam ). Carnival had signed an MoA (memorandum of agreement) with Fincantieri to construct both vessels, with scheduled deliveries in 2021 (for HAL, at Marghera yard) and 2022 (for Princess, at Monfalcone yard). By the time when both contracts were finalized (February 2017), Carnival Corporation had a total of 19 new ships scheduled for deliveries between 2017-2022.

The vessel's construction officially started with the steel-cutting ceremony on September 8, 2017. On July 5, 2018, at Monfalcone shipyard was held the keel-laying ceremony, traditionally signifying the start of its physical construction. The process is mainly an assembly of pre-fabricated blocks (modular components) joined together at the yard's drydock facility.

Sky Princess was officially delivered to Princess Cruises on October 15, 2019, at Monfalcone Shipyard. The ceremony was attended by Laura Castelli (France's Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance), Giuseppe Bono (Fincantieri's CEO), Micky Arison (Carnival Corporation's Chairman), Arnold Donald (Carnival Corporation's President and CEO), Stein Kruse (Group CEO for the subsidiaries Holland America, Seabourn, Carnival Australia, Carnival UK), Jan Swartz (Group President of the subsidiaries Princess Cruises and Carnival Australia).

Sky Princess cruise ship construction

Sky Princess is the 17th vessel built by Fincantieri for Princess Cruises. As of October 2019, Fincantieri built a total of 95 cruise liners (since 1990), of which 68 for Carnival Corporation and 49 being on order or under construction .

Fun facts: It takes 3 million man-hours to build a Royal-class liner. For its construction are used 37,000 tons of steel. For instance, about 12,000 tons of steel were used for constructing the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles . The paint used for the vessel is 95,000 gallons (360,000 L), which is two times more than the quantity consumed for Golden Gate Bridge (re-painted annually). The electrical cables wiring the whole vessel are long 2484 ml (4000 km) which is enough to link NYC with LA .

The vessel was launched/floated out from drydock on February 14, 2019. On the same day (Feb 14th) was held the keel-laying ceremony for the sistership Enchanted Princess (2021) and the steel-cutting for the 6th/final ROYAL-Class liner Discovery Princess (2022). Sky Princess' float-out was led by godmother Kerry Ann Wright (2nd officer for Princess Cruises) nominated as Madrina by her fellow crew. The ship's 6-day Mediterranean Sea trials were successfully completed in early-September.

Princess Cruises Sky Princess was officially christened on December 7, 2019, in Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale Florida USA) . The liner has two godmothers (former NASA personnel) - Kathryn Patricia Hire (1959-born, former astronaut, now US Navy Reserve Captain) and Frances "Poppy" Northcutt (1943-born, NASA Apollo Program engineer).

The ship's first commanding officers were Heikki Laakkonen and Michele Tuvo (Captains), Fabio Braccelli and Mladen Ratkovic (Chief Engineers), Terri Cybuliak and Richard Harry (General Hotel Managers), Giovanni Cardile and Brian Whelan (Staff Captains).

Sky Princess refurbishment 2023 review

The ship's first drydocking was in 2023 (2023 (April 19-May 6).

The 16-day project (conducted at Damen Verolme Rotterdam in Rotterdam Holland ) was mainly for regularly scheduled maintenance works and minor technical upgrades. 2023 (April 19-May 6) Rotterdam Holland

It involved ~700 contractor workers in addition to the ship's own ~1200 crew members.

The works included installing a new air lubrication/hull system, underwater hull cleaning and painting, renovation of some staterooms and public spaces. "The Catch by Rudi" (new seafood restaurant) replaced the "Bistro Sur La Mer".

The wreckage of the Bayesian is resting on the seabed at a depth of 164ft.

It had been moored around half a mile off the coast of Porticello when it sank at about 5am local time on Monday.

Mr Zagarola said the Italian coastguard's working theory is still that the missing woman is inside the boat.

Welcome back to our live coverage of the yacht disaster, as the search continues for the last missing tourist.

Hannah Lynch, 18, the daughter of British tycoon Mike Lynch, is still unaccounted for, while her father has been confirmed dead.

He was among five bodies recovered and identified yesterday.

Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Judith Bloomer, as well as lawyer Christopher Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo were also named as among the deceased.

Meanwhile, tributes have flooded in for the deceased, including from the families of the Bloomers and the Morvillos.

A senior oceanography lecturer told Sky News it's "unlikely" Ms Lynch was thrown from the Bayesian and more probable that she will be found somewhere inside the vessel.

An Italian fire service spokesman said emergency workers "would need a crystal ball" to know if and when another body will be discovered.

Meanwhile, an investigation is under way into the circumstances behind the sinking.

The chief executive of a firm which makes and sells yachts like the Bayesian said the sinking may have been due to a series of human mistakes and questioned why its crew were not in a "state of alert" when the storm hit.

We're pausing our coverage for tonight but here is a recap of what we know:

  • The five bodies discovered in the wreckage of the sunken Bayesian have been identified;
  • British tycoon Mike Lynch, Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judith Bloomer, lawyer Christopher Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo were all named;
  • Mr Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah Lynch remains unaccounted for;
  • A senior oceanography lecturer has told Sky News it's "unlikely" she was thrown from the Bayesian and more probable that she will be found somewhere inside the vessel;
  • Tributes have flooded in for the deceased, including from the families of the Bloomers and the Morvillos;
  • The chief executive of a firm which makes and sells yachts like the Bayesian believes the sinking may have been due to a series of human mistakes and questioned why its crew were not in a "state of alert" when a storm hit;
  • An Italian fire service spokesman says emergency workers "would need a crystal ball" to know if and when another body will be discovered;
  • Mr Lynch had reportedly considered selling the Bayesian earlier this year but changed his mind when acquitted in a major fraud trial in the US.

As tributes are made to those who lost their lives aboard the Bayesian, investigations are getting under way into what caused the disaster.

A criminal investigation was opened in Italy after the tragedy, despite the fact no suspects have been identified publicly.

The UK's Marine Accident Investigation Branch is also investigating, though it is purely fact-finding.

Watch Sky News correspondent Laura Bundock explain the situation here...

Mike Lynch was one of the "most inspirational citizens" of Suffolk, says the Countess of Euston.

Clare, Countess of Euston, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk, says Mr Lynch was "quite simply a genius" who was "exemplary" in his position as a deputy lieutenant of Suffolk.

She said: "I join with so many others in mourning the shocking loss of Mike Lynch and all those who tragically lost their lives in Sicily this week. Mike was one of Suffolk's most inspirational citizens.

"He was quite simply a genius, a global leader in his field but so much more than that.

"A kind and compassionate man who was always ready to help, hugely generous, the best of friends, but it will be his warm and wonderful smile that will be impossible for me to forget.

"Mike was an exemplary Deputy Lieutenant of Suffolk serving both our late Queen Elizabeth II and our present King Charles III.

"Our heartfelt sympathy and condolences are with Angela and his whole family at this terrible time."

The search for the final person unaccounted for from the Bayesian's sinking entered its fourth day today.

Divers were quickly able to retrieve one body from the shipwreck that they had already discovered yesterday, but searches remain ongoing for the final passenger, believed to be 18-year-old Hannah Lynch.

Below, we have a look at some images from the operation today as it unfolded:

Clifford Chance has paid tribute to its partner, Chris Morvillo, after he was confirmed to have died when the Bayesian yacht capsized and sank.

Mr Morvillo spent almost a decade helping to lead the defence of Mike Lynch after the British tech tycoon was accused of falsely inflating revenues of his software company ahead of its multi-billion sale to Hewlett-Packard in 2011.

The 59-year-old was on the yacht with his wife, Neda, who is also among those to have died.

A spokesperson from Clifford Chance said: "We are heartbroken at the tragic passing of our partner, Christopher Morvillo and his wife, Neda.

"We are deeply saddened and still coming to terms with this terrible loss. Our utmost priority is to continue to support Chris's family at this very distressing time. Our thoughts extend to the families and loved ones of all those affected.

"We wish to express our deepest condolences and our love and support to Chris’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. We also want to thank the Italian authorities and rescue teams for everything they have done.

"We have no further comment at this time. We, and the families, ask that their request for privacy is honoured during this period."

A little earlier we reported comments from the boss of the firm which makes and sells vessels like Mike Lynch's sunken superyacht (see 18.25 post).

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, which owns the company that makes the Perini vessels, questioned why its crew were not in a "state of alert" when a storm hit.

He insisted the vessels were "absolutely safe", suggesting human error was behind the boat going down.

More tributes are being made to British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, after he was identified as one of the bodies found in the superyacht wreckage.

Suranga Chandratillake, who worked under Mr Lynch for five years and had him on the board of directors at his firm Balderton for nearly a decade, said the businessman was an "inspirational titan of industry".

He said Mr Lynch was an "unfailingly supportive mentor who challenged and supported in equal measure"  and who also "mastered hybrid work" well before COVID.

"He was famously fiercely competitive but, to his friends, equally fiercely loyal and always ready for a cup of tea and a chat."

Patrick Jacob , a family friend of Mr Lynch, said the late tycoon's ability to "identify and solve complex problems" was "phenomenal".

"As a friend, Mike was never dull and always ready for a lively debate on almost any topic, conducted with intelligence and convivial vigour."

He added that he never came away from seeing Mr Lynch "without feeling my life was enriched by the experience".

Martina King , the CEO of Featurespace, a platform for fraud and financial crime management, said there qs a "high statistical probability" that the company wouldn't be a "thriving technology company" without Mr Lynch.

She said: "Mike was a true champion of the UK technology sector, including the need for greater diversity, and advocated for many female leaders - including me."

The head of legal tech firm Luminance, Eleanor Lightbody ,said Mr Lynch was a "visionary unlike any other" who had the ability to spot solve "tomorrow's challenges before others even knew they were coming".

"I feel honoured to have known him, worked with him and learnt from him over the years," she added.

The boss of the firm which makes and sells vessels like Mike Lynch's sunken superyacht has questioned why its crew were not in a "state of alert" when a storm hit.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, which owns the company that makes the Perini vessels, said they "are absolutely safe", suggesting human error was behind the boat going down.

He told Sky News the "event" that capsized the British-flagged luxury yacht Bayesian off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, on Monday "could have been managed with an average amount of attention".

Mike Lynch’s friend mourns ‘unbelievably tragic’ death after fraud trial acquittal

Mike Lynch ’s legacy “should be celebrated” a friend has said, following his death.

The body of the technology tycoon has been recovered after a luxury yacht sank off the coast of Sicily earlier this week.

His 18-year-old daughter reportedly remains missing.

After news of Lynch’s death was confirmed, his friend Brent Hoberman described him as “a titan and a figurehead”.

“We were all hoping for a miracle,” Mr Hoberman told Sky News.

“It is important - now his passing is confirmed - to think about his legacy... It’s important that his legacy is celebrated.”
