Restaurants & (beach) bars estepona – marbella.

Finding a good restaurant or bar can be difficult if you do not know the area. We therefore hope that the recommendations given below will help you to enjoy your stay.

On this Estepona Living website we only publish restaurants, bars and beach clubs where we like going ourselves or have come highly recommended via a reliable source. In their own category, you will find the recommendations on his website have a good ambiance, service and price-quality.

Of course this all depends on the type of cuisine you are looking for! This Estepona Living selection ranges from typical Spanish tapas bars to 5 star restaurants with international top chefs.

Lunch is usually between 2 and 4pm and often the day´s main meal for the Spanish. Evening eating starts around 8pm with drinks and tapas, dinner usually starts from 9pm. In the busy summer months and to avoid disappointment, it is best to arrive no later than 8.30- 9pm. Most of the Spanish will start arriving from that time onwards.

Situated only 10 minutes from Estepona, this typical Spanish road side “Venta” is certainly worth the drive: Trendy and very popular because of its relaxing ambience, great food, service and good value for money. Special 3 course lunch menu 11 Euro, dinner menu 25 Euro. Or a la carte. Outside terrace in summer. Jesus, the owner, and his team are great hosts! From Estepona drive in a Westerly direction on the A-7 coastal road towards Duquesa. Exit at km147 at the roundabout with a large gas station, continue in direction Casares (inland). Proceed for a further 5 minutes and you will see Venta Garcia on your left hand side at km7 (7 km from the coast). In August open 7 days a week, rest of the year closed on Mondays.

Camuri Restaurant is located at Laguna Village, the Polynesian Style beachfront venue on the New Golden Mile (next to hotel Kempinski), with Luxury shops, restaurants and beachclub. Camuri only opened its doors in April 2011.The owners, 2 Spanish brothers, have been in the restaurants business for many years, just like all the chefs from different countries… making sure the food and service is outstanding! Fish dishes (Cazuela, Merluza and many more…) are a specialty with daily fresh fish, but the menu offers a large variety of dishes. Great presentation and location with views over the beach right by the sea, with regular live music. On this charming small square full of orange trees, this fusion bar/restaurant is a trendy place with a great ambience and good variety of food. Trendy Wine/tapas bar/restaurant in the old town (open 2013), in a small street just of Plaza las Flores. Nice food and presented very differently, wines sold by the glass, great selection of wines. service is friendly, nice interior design with a modern yet authentic look. The bar area is lively and the inner courtyard (open to the sky) is stunning. Seating also outside in the pedestrian street. The range of tapas is really good (Small bites to larger dishes).

Trendy new Wine/Tapas bar/restaurant (opened 2013), Well situated in the old town of Estepona on the pretty Calle Villa (just of Plaza las Flores), on a corner close to the covered food market. Very creative small tapa dishes (only 2 Euro) to a light lunch or evening meal or just a coffee. Nice selection of wines. Modern interior and friendly staff. Also outdoor seating.

Well known and established up market seafood restaurant, with outside terraces. Very popular restaurant with the Spanish. Open for the last 18 years but completely refurbished/modernized in 2006. Same owners as Club Nautico fish restaurant in the port. Open for lunch (13.00 -16.00) and dinner (19.30-23.30), closed on Tuesdays.

This good quality restaurant, on an elevated level first line port serves daily fresh fish. Glass windows all around, which open in summer, give fantastic views over the Estepona port. Same owners as La Rada fish restaurant. Open for lunch (13.00 -16.00) and dinner (19.30-23.30), closed on Mondays.

Typical Spanish small fish restaurant just off central “Plaza las Flores” square in the heart Estepona old Town (in a narrow cobblestone street just north of the square). Outdoor terrace in nice weather. Open for lunch (13.00-16.00) and dinner (19.30-23.00), closed on Sundays.

Sea front fish restaurant on the boulevard. Great terrace right by the beach. Located in the only buildings on the Estepona boulevard, on the East side corner of the blocks (Edificio Madrid). Special menu´s available. Lunch 13.00-16.00 and dinner from 19.30. This restaurant is open daily in summer, rest of the year closed on Mondays.

Great typical Spanish open air “local” restaurant , directly on the beach. Very casual, (plastic tables) with a local atmosphere, but with great food. Very lively (lots of Spanish), especially in summertime. Daily fresh fish, open for lunch (13.00-16.00) and dinner (from 8.30pm). Closed on Mondays. Closed whole month of October. No reservations possible.

Typical Spanish restaurant close to Estepona port with great views (elevated). Large outdoor terrace in summer. Seafood, paellas and other Spanish specialties. Location: Turn uphill at the end of the Estepona boulevard (small roundabout before you get to the port). Follow the road up and around (in a “U-turn”). 1 minute drive from the Paseo, the restaurant overlooks the town and sea. Open daily in summer and for holidays, rest of the year closed on Thursdays. Lunch 13.00-16.00, Dinner 19.30-23.00/24.00.

Charming and special restaurant on 2 levels, cosy (inside only) with great food. Spanish and International cuisine. Open for dinner from 19.00-23.30, closed on Mondays. On special occasions and large groups open for lunch. You will find this nicely decorated restaurant 100 meters behind the tourist office in the old town.

Typical Spanish restaurant. Casual set up, but with good quality food. Specialty is fish but also tapas and different meat dishes available. Half portions (=media raciones) are no problem (in most restaurants). Outside terrace in the street on the pavement. Very close to the tourist office in Estepona old town (on the right hand side ). This restaurant is open daily for lunch (13.00-16.00) and dinner (20.00-23.30).

Typical Spanish restaurant. Great tapas,meat and fish, serving all the Spanish specialties. No need to reserve for arrival before 09.30 pm. Very popular with Spanish. Casual ambience but nice decor and interior, with wooden beams. Good value for money and well set up. Outdoor terrace in this nice cobblestone pedestrian street, located just behind the boulevard (East side). Open for lunch (12.00- 16.30) and dinner (from 20.00 till 23.30), closed on Tuesdays.

Very casual place run by father and son, great selection of tapas (for only a few Euros each) to choose from inside the bar. Seating available on the large outdoor (partly covered) terrace or inside. Good day plates available for very reasonable prices. Open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nothing fancy but good food on a central lively location in the port!

Mediterranean cuisine and good value for money for those who like big portions. Well known for its paellas, fish dishes, meats etc. But also some regular European food. Large outside, partly covered, terrace on a lively central location in Estepona port. Open for lunch and dinner, closed on Tuesdays

Popular real Italian cuisine, with great pastas and pizza´s. Established in London for over 25 years and now also at the trendy Laguna Village Estepona (Tel. 952807354) in tropical surroundings large outdoor dining areas in an interesting setting and are open for lunch and dinner from 1pm to midnight, 7 days a week.

Cosy Italian restaurant with reasonable prices. Specialty risotto, pasta´s and pizza´s. The restaurant has a nice outdoor terrace in summer and is situated in a pedestrian shopping street in Estepona old Town, just behind the boulevard (Corner Calle Real -East side-and Calle Teatro).

This well established Italian restaurant-pizzeria was previously located opposite Carrefour and has been popular for years. In 2007 this new modern and spacious Venezia opened its doors and serves great food for very reasonable prices. Friendly service in a homely ambience. This great Thai restaurant only opened its doors in 2011 and since then has attracted many return guests. They return for Charlie, the friendly host/owner (who used to work & live in Holland so also speaks Dutch!) but also for the ambience, service and great value for money. The outdoor terrace overlooks the port and with over 100 traditional Thai style dishes to choose from this is a great place. Open daily for lunch and dinner.

An authentic Indonesian restaurant in San Pedro (10 minutes East of Estepona). Chefs Sri and Gerard Soekardi founded the renowned Djawa Indonesian restaurant in Eindhoven (Holland) 35 years ago. Since early 2009 they now also prepare their original Indonesian dishes for you in the South of Spain. Estepona’s Marina and fishing port lies around 1.5 kilometers east of the historic centre, between the town’s two best-known beaches, Playa de la Rada and Playa de Cristo.

Spread out on both sides of the Avenida del Carmen, reaching from the Plaza Marqués de Valterra in the east to the Seghers development in the west, the land rises away from the main entrance to the port, giving numerous properties in the neighbourhood good views out over the Mediterranean Sea.

With 447 berths for vessels up to 35m in length, the marina has shower and toilet facilities for those coming ashore, while electricity, water and WiFi Internet connections are available for boats in all areas of the port.

Residents also enjoy easy access to local services, with a Supercor Express supermarket, pharmacy, and a business and Internet centre. Every Sunday morning throughout the year, the marina also plays host to a market that is popular with both locals and tourists alike.

Estepona’s town hall is located within the port area, with other local attractions, such as the bullring (Plaza de Toros), the palentology museum, and the main tourist office all just across the Avenida del Carmen.

The Estepona Bay has been a major feature of life since the region’s first inhabitation during medieval times. The Romans arrived in the area a little before 200 BC. There is a theory that their fishing and agricultural centre, Silniana, may have been located in today’s Estepona. However, a seaquake knocked out the Roman town in the fourth century. In 1342 the naval Battle of Estepona took place in the Bay of Estepona. The fleet of the Kingdom of Aragon clashed with the fleet of the Marinid Dynasty. Although the Aragonese fleet won that battle, they were later destroyed near Gibraltar. Ultimately, Henry IV of Castile captured the town from the Moors in 1457, and the San Luis castle was built for coastal defence against Berber pirates. Fishing was an important part of the life of the town. Today, the port of Estepona continues to be a working port,where fishing boats sell their catch to market.

What shopping is available in and around Estepona Marina and Port?

There is a Sunday morning farmer’s market in Estepona. Early every morning (6:00am) there is a wholesale fish market at the port. A wide variety of fresh fish is displayed there. The general public cannot purchase the fish on display. However,the fresh fish can later be found in local markets and restaurants. There is also a flea market in the bullring on Sunday that sells souvenirs, bags, sunglasses, clothes and shoes. The town has several specialised boutiques including a health food shop and at least two good charity shops. Art exhibitions are often held at the Casa de la Cultura.

Estepona’s up-market Mercado Gourmet de San Luis offers fine foods. The building has been transformed into a gourmet space. It features restaurants, cocktail and craft-beer bars, a café, a winery, and a relaxing terrace. You can find fresh, local produce at the Wednesday market, as well as a variety of nuts,olives,and dried fruits. There are also basic items such as cheap socks and shoes.

What is there to see and do in and around Estepona Marina and Port?

Estepona’s town hall is located within the port area, with other local attractions. These include the bullring (Plaza de Toros), the palaeontology museum, the bullfighting museum, the Museum of Image and Sound, and the main tourist office. They all lie just across the Avenida del Carmen from the marina and port. In addition, there are many wonderful activities nearby, in and around Estepona. For starters, take a tour of Estepona’s legendary Old Town. The Town Council has created thematic itineraries to help you explore it on foot. There is a sculpture route, a mural route, and a poetry route. In and around the Old Town, you will find the beautiful Plaza de las Flores and the Casa de Cultura. There are a variety of properties located in the Estepona Marina and Port area. Here, you will find mostly apartments, varying from the modest to the luxurious. For villas the area of Seghers offers a well-established residential area, made up of private villas and townhouses. Bordered by green space, Seghers starts at Avenida del Carmen, a short walk away from the Blue Flag Playa del Cristo beach. It then stretches up the hill to Calle del Olivo and east to Calle del Peral. The area is also home to the Babylon sports and social club and Estepona’s municipal police station. The private gated development of Belgravia Club is a frontline development in Estepona Port. It boasts panoramic views of the Mediterranean coastline and the Strait of Gibraltar. It is a short walk from the development to the popular Playa del Cristo beach. Also in the port are the four towers of Puerto Paraiso with apartments facing the sea and the complex of El Faro just to the east of the port.

To the east of the port, close to the popular Playa del Cristo are the following developments, Marina Bay which is front line overlooking the beach, El Coral and Bermeja Beach both complexes looking over the bay of Playa del Cristo, Doncella Beach and Les Rivages both gated luxury complexes situated front line beach just to the east of Playa del Cristo and finally Riviera Andaluza, a combination of townhouses and apartments overlooking the sea next to the H10 hotel. A new development, Ikkil Bay is under construction in the port on the beachfront. Facilities include 24/7 security and underground parking. There is also an indoor heated pool, fully equipped gymnasium and an infinity pool overlooking the beach. Prices in this development range from 2 million to 4 million euros.
