Rig Checks & Repairs

Annual rig checks can be undertaken in preparation for the upcoming season. We provide a detailed report, including pictures, of any issues found on the inspection. This includes the full mast, furling gears, booms and all your deck hardware. The report can be used for coding your vessel, insurance and kept for your personal records. 

Our in depth knowledge and supply base means we can give accurate advice and options if there is any rig or spar damage found. Repairs and replacements can be swiftly resolved, so you can continue to enjoy your time sailing.

Mast Stepping & Unstepping

Providing a mast step and unstep service ensures that your rig is well cared for when being manoeuvred in and out of your boat. Whether it is pulled for us to complete work or to transport it to your boats new destination, our variety of experience means DN Marine are geared up for the job.

Mast Tuning

From a dock tune to sail tuning, we can make sure you get the most out of your yacht in terms of performance and longevity of spar and rigging. A sail tune can be undertaken in order to ensure your rig and sail setup is correct so you can get the most out of your yacht.

Standing Rigging

DN Marine can supply and manufacture standing rigging for various yachts, from 7x19 flexible wire to 1x19 Dyform wire. Using the best terminals and wire on the market ensures the quality is kept to a high standard. We can do full re-rigs or replace individual parts as required.

Running Rigging

DN Marine use Kingfisher and Maffioli Ropes giving you the highest quality rope at affordable prices. There are options of Halyards, sheets, mooring lines and soft shackle/loops that we can tailor to your requirement. From Polyester to Dyneema 99 Core, when it comes to running rigging we have you covered.  

A sail care package providing the removal of sail and covers in preparation for laundering and servicing over winter, and reassembly at the start of the season. From Sanders, North, Kemp, Doyle and many others, our suppliers are ready to get the job done.

Our specialised workshop is located at Parkstone Bay Marina, the only rigging specific company of its kind in Dorset serving Poole Harbour and the South Coast. A mobile afloat service by rib is available in Poole Harbour and surrounding areas, so if your boat is on a swing mooring or in the marina, we have the capacity to meet its location. Whether it’s an annual Rigging Survey or a replacement wind vein, day-to-day rigging can be carried out whilst your yacht lays on its mooring or berth.

Ridge Wharf is a marina/boatyard in Poole Harbour accommodating sailing and motor yachts ashore or afloat, offering lift out, servicing, repairs, chandlery and fuel. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, conveniently situated for cruising the Jurassic Coast and within easy reach of the Solent, the West Country, France and the Channel Islands. Ridge Wharf is a base from which to experience boating in a relaxed and enchanting manner.  Situated on the South Bank of the River Frome, 1 1/2miles downstream from the ancient market town of Wareham, and 10 minutes from the boating paradise of Poole Harbour. With 170 berths on pontoons, staging and river moorings, considerable hardstanding and winter lay up facilities; all services are available to the yachtsman whether their preference be for sail or power.

Our new (to us) boat has arrived in Poole and since the mast is down and the rigging is completely disassembled it seems like a good time to check over everything and if needed replace anything that that needs replacing (hopefully without costing too much).. Can anyone recommend someone operating in Poole who can check over and supply what's needed if anything?

There is very little that a professional rigger can do that you cannot. A thorough visual inspection is needed, concentrating on any high stress points such as swages, bottle screws, etc. You can do that perfectly well. If you find anything untoward such as wear steps, cracks, corrosion, etc. that may be the time to consult someone experienced.  

I would suggest that as Vyv said inspection is not always so successful with rigging wire. It is inclined to fail especially at the bottom swage after around 15+ years with no outward signs of impending failure. Presumably you do not know the history of the rigging wire. So safest bet is to replace the wire. This is most cheaply done by removing the wires and taking to a rigging specialist who can fabricate replacement in new wire. Solid metal parts do not give so much trouble so should be inspected by you. Do not waste money on getting a professional to inspect the rigging. He can't do much better than you can. ol'will

Thanks for the advise.. Was largely what I was considering as the plan of action anyway.. So the next question is are there any suggestions for where to get new wires fabricated is needed? The boat is a 2001 model and I assume it's all the original rigging so I want to look closely at everything but it maybe a safer bet to replace it if it looks even a little suspect..

Kwik Decision

A few years ago I sent my old Sadler 29 standing rigging to Z Spars, and they made up new, and sent the whole lot back to me for a little over £600, inc new bottle screws. Considerably cheaper than getting a local rigger to make it up, and it all fitted correctly. Given your mast is already down, that would seem a reasonable way to go.

Who We Are?

Lazy days skippered boat charters uses a 46foot Azimut flybridge motor yacht owned and operated by Richard and Pat. There is ample seating inside and out plus our sky lounge with sunshade if required, sunbath on our fore deck at anchor or use our large swim platform (with hot shower)to swim from, paddle boards are available or just paddle your feet and watch the world go by with music of your choice. There is a large cool box that will be full of ice and soft drinks you are welcome to bring your own alcohol. All prices include all fuel skipper and host. We include hot and cold refreshments and lovely sandwich platter. There is a tender aboard for trips to the beach and extra water sports can be arranged.

All Day Local Charter 9:30am - 4:30pm (7 hours)

Our all day charter is seven hours aboard normally starting at 9.30am, this can be changed to suit your needs, we will welcome you aboard at pool quay boat haven, settle you in then give you a safety briefing before cruising through Poole harbour past brown sea island and the sandbanks peninsula where we can if you wish speed up for an exhilarating ride to east Swanage where we can anchor in the shelter of the cliffs a lovely spot to swim or use our paddle boards, or just relax and take in the views. We can then get up close to the cliffs travelling past the old Harry formation for some great pictures and on to Studland Bay, where we will serve you lunch, another opportunity to swim or paddle board. Additional Watersports can be arranged on request ,then a nice sedate ride back to Poole and a tour of furzey South deep and green island before returning to Poole quay. This for guidance you may customise your own day. pastries, sandwiches and fruit platters included! £1400 for 10 guests, £65 per person for extra 2 (12 guests)

Half Day Local Charter (4 Hours)

Welcome aboard at Poole quay boat havena safety brief before a cruise beside Poole quay and then out through Poole harbour then an exhilarating ride to old Harry rocks then into Studland Bay where we will serve you your included picnic you will have time to try our paddle boards have a swim or maybe a walk on the beach before returning to Poole quay. Four hours 9.30 to 1.30 or 2.30 to 6.30. £950 for 10 guests. £55 per person for extra 2 (12 guests) Three hour alternative: £750 for 10 guests. £50per extra person.

Evening Sundowner Cruise 6pm till 9pm

A tranquil cruise to Studland Bay or around Pooles beautiful islands to catch a sunset. £850 for 10 guests, £40 per person for extra 2 (12 guests)

The Hut Colwell Bay Or Yarmouth IOW (WEATHER DEPENDING)

Welcome aboard at Poole quay boat haven and safety brief before traversing Poole then either coastal or offshore route to the needles and on to your favourite venue for lunch return to Poole. £1800 for up to 10 guests, £65 per person. Extra 2 (12 guests).

Ash Scattering Service

Three hour cruise to remember and say good bye to your loved one in the Poole Bay area lunch included. £650 for 10 guests.
