The roots of the Mariposa Hunters Point Yacht Club date to 1932, when the Mariposa Boat Club and the Mariposa Ramp Club were founded. The purpose of these clubs was “to promote good sportsmanship, to provide docking and to arrange cruises, regattas , and other activities which will tend to increase interest in small craft boating.” In 1964 they formally incorporated.

On a parallel track, an association known as the Hunters Point Yacht Club, which had absorbed another club, the Shear Pin Club, was incorporated in 1962. Their general purpose was to encourage boating activities, recreation and social contacts among the members.

On October 10, 1974 the Mariposa Boat Club and Ramp Club and the Hunters Point Yacht Club merged and renamed themselves Mariposa Hunters Point Yacht Club. Our Club was officially born and has been going strong ever since.

Located in New Castle, New Hampshire the Portsmouth Yacht club was founded in 1898 and has a club house located on the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth Harbor just off route 1B near the center of New Castle.  We have guest moorings on the river and in Pepperrell Cove which is across the harbor in Kittery Point, ME.   Map

The Piscataqua River is frequented by freighters heading to Portsmouth and Newington NH and is the home of the Portsmouth Navy Yard in Kittery, ME.

We follow in the tradition of some other famous yacht clubs, in that we are not located in the the town the club is named after, like the Boston Yacht Club in Marblehead, the New York Yacht Club in Newport RI and the Kittery Point Yacht Club (KPYC) in New Castle. If you happen to see KPYC on the port and the Navy Prison on the starboard, it looks like a castle, you went by PYC.

Next Yankee Series Race is  Aug 24th ,  first warning at 10:00 AM                          This one is a point-to-point race to the Club Party!! Race and Party in one!!                                                             Summer Party -- Saturday Afternoon 24th -- Salt Ponds Marina POOL...                             Next Board Meeting,  Tuesday, Sept 10th at the clubhouse

OPCYC has a rich cruising tradition.  We have members who have circumnavigated the globe, others who have made several transatlantic crossings, still others who have sailed the islands off the south coast of Panama.  We have adventurers that have sailed the 640 miles of open ocean to Bermuda or the 1500 miles to the Caribbean, returning after a few days of fun in the sun there.  Others have flown to the islands and chartered there, skipping some of the adventure for more of the fun.  Some of our members have chartered in the Adriatic and eastern Mediterranean, still others have chartered a barge and gone down the Canal du Midi in France.  We Pointers love to circumnavigate.  Some of us have circumnavigated Grandview Island by kayak, and even one by (small) sailboat.  We have circumnavigated the Eastern Shore by doing the DelMarVa loop; some of us have circumnavigated Norfolk and VA Beach, by sailing to the Islands offshore, then returning via the ICW.  One of our members completed the "Great Loop;" a circumnavigation of the entire East Coast of the USA & Canada.  Additionally, one member flew the OPCYC burgee on the grandest cruise of them all; circumnavigation of the earth!

It's only a small step from spending a weekend at Cape Charles or Mobjack Bay to enjoying the generosity and openness at the Fishing Bay Yacht Club.  From there, it's only a matter of finding the time to be able to cruise to Solomons, Annapolis, Oxford, St. Michaels, the Inner Harbor and all the way to the Sassafras River at the north end of the Bay.  So whether your cruising adventure involves wakeboarding all the way up the James to Richmond, spending a quiet weekend at anchor in Mobjack Bay or cruising "down east" to Maine, or far southeast to the Caribbean, you'll find kindred souls at OPCYC.  Some of our more adventurous or colorful cruises are shared with other club members every year at PMU.

Speaking of Cape Charles:  You ain't been cruisin' with OPCYC unless you helped us take over the Cape Charles Harbor on Memorial Day weekend.  We bring dozens and dozens of boats.  The Harbor is ours.  The adventure awaits but you must cast off the dock lines and sail into the unknown.

To sign up for any of the cruising events at right, email Kevin or Chip. We are happy to answer any cruising questions and hear your comments!
