It is the first ultra-luxury multihull superyacht to sail the Galapagos Islands.

The Galapagos Islands is a destination that should be at the top of any intrepid traveler’s bucket list. Home to a large number of species of flora and fauna – many of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world – the archipelago is indisputably a wonder of nature.

To make the most of what this paradisal location offers, you should explore these enchanted islands on a luxury Galapagos cruise. This is where Via Natura, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, comes in. The family-owned DMC and cruise operator crafts ultra-luxury experiences on the Hermes Mega Catamaran. This is the biggest commercial catamaran in the world and the first of its kind in the Galapagos.

Hermes Mega Catamaran King Bed Suite

The multihull superyacht is the culmination of months of research and analysis into luxury experiences; as such, no detail has been spared in designing the ultimate, once-in-a-lifetime cruise trip to the Galapagos Islands. Via Natura has created the perfect balance of comfort, space, intimacy and exclusivity.

The superyacht’s capacity is limited to just 20 passengers and has a 1-1 crew-to-guest ratio, ensuring above-and-beyond service for each guest. Think: two butlers ready to assist with every need, from unpacking and laundry services to booking massage appointments; a signature pillow menu; and in-room dining.

The suites on board (ten doubles, two singles) are nothing short of opulent. Ten 350-sq-ft suites feature floor-to-ceiling windows offering stunning vistas of the surroundings, walk-in closets, a mini bar and private balcony. What’s more, Via Natura’s Hermes Mega Catamaran is the only luxury vessel in the Galapagos with a private jacuzzi in each suite, overlooking the ocean for an intimate encounter with nature.

sun deck jacuzzi

For solo travelers or odd-numbered groups, two 234-sq-ft suites are available for single use. Multiple suites can be interconnected for families, while the owner suite can extend to 700 sq ft.

Elsewhere, guests have myriad things to do and see while onboard. With a total of 7,296 sq ft of social areas across four decks, guests can enjoy facilities such as indoor and outdoor restaurants and bars, lounges, a spa, an observation deck, and a sun deck with an outdoor Jacuzzi. Guests also have access to VIP lounges at Galapagos airports and satellite internet onboard.

Hermes Mega Catamaran provides a world-class culinary experience paired with an all-inclusive wine and spirits menu curated by professional sommeliers and a famous Ecuadorian chef.

hermes mega catamaran panoramic deck

During the expedition, there will be one naturalist guide for every ten guests (the industry standard in the Galapagos being one to sixteen), who will share their well-informed knowledge about this endlessly fascinating corner of the world through hands-on exploration. There are many chances to explore the archipelago on the cruise through exhilarating hikes and snorkeling sessions.

Sustainability is at the heart of each Via Natura cruise expedition. There are many endemic Galapagos trees at risk of extinction due to invasive species.  Among them are the Scalescia, the Guayabillo and the Matazarno. Via Natura decided to launch a reforestation program on its own nine-hectare property in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island. Here guests can participate in replanting these endemic species or support the program by booking cruises onboard Hermes.

4 Day - C Southern Islands

itinerary map

Embarkation

AM: Catch an early flight to San Cristóbal Island. In the afternoon, visit Tijeretas, a great viewpoint and our first wildlife encounter. Learn about the origins of the Galapagos at the Interpretation Center.

PM: Learn about the history of the Galápagos Islands from the very beginning of their volcanic origins through to today’s conservation efforts. Tour the Human History exhibit to learn about the islands’ discovery and colonization, and discover the natural history and variety of flora and fauna that make the Galápagos so fascinating.

This hill bears its name thanks to the frigate birds as “Tijeretas” is how people locally call them. Here we will enjoy a great view of beautiful landscapes at the foot of a frigate bird nesting colony.

Hermes - Southern Islands

Gardner Bay & Punta Suárez

AM: Visit Gardner Bay's magnificent white sandy beach, home to sea lions and sea birds. Be sure to explore the beautiful turquoise water and its incredible sea life. Spot young sea lions and large schools of surprisingly big tropical fish, including yellow-tailed surgeonfish, king angelfish, and bump-head parrot fish.

Head to Tortuga Rock and Gardner Bay for a spectacular snorkeling experience. Spot playful young sea lions and large schools of tropical fish, including yellow-tailed surgeonfish, king angelfish, and bump-head parrot fish. Look for white-tipped reef sharks napping on the bottom.

PM: Visit Punta Suárez, one of the most rich wildlife landing sites in the Galápagos. Be greeted by surfing young sea lions on arrival. Head to the trail to find many species of nesting sea birds, and, if lucky, see the waved albatross. Follow the path up to a cliff for great views over the ocean, and watch sea birds gliding in the wind.

Hermes - Southern Islands

Cormorant Point & Post Office Bay

AM: Floreana Island Visit Punta Cormorant, the only landing site on Floreana Island, and discover two amazingly different beaches: one with green sand, colored by olivine crystals, and another with white sand particles known as 'Flour Beach'.

Spend the afternoon observing flamingos and other shore birds feeding in the lagoon. Spot penguins and marine iguanas at the water’s edge, and explore the lava tubes with the Galápagos CEO.

Jump on in and get up close and personal with the playful sea lion colony that resides in the waters off this tiny island. Keep an eye out for sea turtles, rays, and colorful fish swimming by. There can be currents in this area, this activity should be done by strong swimmers only.

PM: Visit Post Office Bay and learn about its unique history. In the late 18th century, English whaling vessels placed a barrel here to be used as a post office. Today, the box is used mainly by tourists, who may drop off and pick up unstamped letters to be carried to far destinations. Continue the tradition – leave a letter and take one to deliver (be sure it makes it to the correct location).

Hermes - Southern Islands

Disembarkation

AM: Visit Fausto Llerena Breeding Center a great place to observe many species of tortoises and land iguanas in captivity. Brought back from the brink of extinction, see the famous Galápagos tortoise up close – a corral houses adult tortoises, and a nursery cares for the young until around age three when their shells have hardened.

This area also houses the Charles Darwin Research Station, a scientific organization initiated in 1964, which works to preserve the Galápagos' ecosystem through the conservation efforts of scientists, researchers, and volunteers. While the offices themselves are not open to visitors, the research station provides a study location for international scientists and environmental education for the local community.

Disembark in Puerto Ayora and fly back to the mainland from Baltra airport.

Hermes - Southern Islands

4 Day - D Northern Islands

itinerary map

AM: Transfer to the boat to meet the guide and get on board. In the afternoon enjoy the highlands, visit a tortoise ranch, and see some of the amazing volcanic formations on Santa Cruz.

PM: Visit the highlands of Santa Cruz and see the Galápagos giant tortoise in its natural surroundings. Explore the area and its incredible underground lava tunnels – some are more than 1km long! Wander along the volcanic tubes and watch for the (mainly) nocturnal barn owls that sometimes roost here.

Hermes - Northern Islands

Dragon Hill & Chinese Hat

AM: Visit Cerro Dragón (Dragon Hill) for some prime birdwatching. Take a short walk from the beach to a hypersaline (saltier than the ocean) lagoon frequented by pink flamingos, common stilts, pintail ducks, and other species of birds. Pass through a Scalesia tree forest; endemic to the area, there are only 400 specimens of Scalesia trees left in the world.

PM: Explore Chinese Hat’s beautiful landscape and spectacular white-coral sand beach followed by snorkeling with sea lions and penguins and swimming opportunities in the cove. Snorkel right from the white-coral sand beach and come face to face with playful sea lions and large schools of tropical fish. Keep an eye out for marine iguanas and penguins too!

Hermes - Northern Islands

El Barranco & Darwin Bay

AM: El Barranco or Prince Phillips’s Steps as otherwise known, was named after a visit by the British Monarch in 1964. El Barranco's steep 81-foot stairway leads up to a high cliff face that opens out onto the plateau surrounding Darwin Bay.

Here an amazing view can be appreciated. Once at the top of the stairway, we will meet Nazca boobies, red-footed boobies, mockingbirds, and finches along the way to a palo santo trail. It will also be possible to see wedge-rumped storm petrels swarm and short-eared owls.

PM: Darwin Bay was formed by the collapse of the flooded caldera of Tower Island, another name used for Genovesa. After landing at a small sand and coral beach, it is easy to realize why this island is a bird-lover paradise. Among the bird species found here, the most common are swallow-tailed and lava gulls, mockingbirds, yellow-crowned night herons, lava herons, Galapagos doves, and yellow warblers. We will continue on a short and flat trail to encounter red-footed booby and great frigatebird nests.

We will visit a tidal lagoon where sea lions swim playfully ending our path on a cliff with magnificent views of this remote part of the Galapagos.

Hermes - Northern Islands

AM: Take a morning panga ride and look for marine life in Black Turtle Cove. Explore the mangroves by panga to find rich marine wildlife between the fresh and salt waters. Keep an eye out for manta rays and sea turtles in this tranquil ecosystem. Whitetip reef sharks can also be seen gliding by.

Disembark at Baltra and fly back to Ecuador's mainland.

Hermes - Northern Islands

5 Day - A Western Islands

itinerary map

AM: Flight to Baltra Island. You will be met by our guide and transferred to Hermes. We will then sail to Bachas Beach where our first exploration of the Galapagos begins. Bachas is a great introduction to the Galapagos. Here you can relax and swim on its crystalline waters. This site also gives visitors the opportunity to see frigate birds, blue-footed boobies, and sea lions.

PM: Head to Bachas Beach where the sand is made of decomposed coral, making it soft and white, and a favorite site for nesting sea turtles. Spot abundant Sally Lightfoot crabs on the lava rocks along the water's edge -- these crabs will eat anything they can get their claws on! Trek to see a wide range of wildlife, including flamingos, hermit crabs, black-necked stilts, and sea lions.

Hermes - Central & Northern Islands

Tagus Cove & Urbina Bay

AM: Tagus Cove is located on the Northwestern coast of Isabela. It is a historical site visited by Charles Darwin in 1835, where graffiti has been carved into the rock walls by visitors over the past centuries. This spot has been frequented by whalers and pirates since the 1800s that used the area as anchorage. The name of the site dates back to 1814 when it was visited by a British ship, The Tagus, which had anchored there in search of giant tortoises to be used as food supplies on the boat.

Here, we will admire a variety of seabirds, such as blue-footed booby, brown noddy, terns, flightless cormorant, and Galapagos penguins depending on the season. Occasionally you might see woodpecker finches, the Galapagos hawk, the yellow warbler, or a large-billed flycatcher.

After a dry landing, we can climb up the trail to visit Darwin's Lake. The lake is located on the slopes of Darwin Volcano and is, surprisingly, a saltwater lake above sea level. Our naturalist guide will tell you what are the different scientific theories for this occurrence. Meanwhile, in our snorkeling, there are chances to see sharks, turtles, and sea stars. You may also see various different types of colorful fish.

PM: Urbina Bay is a fascinating visitor site that came to be as the shallow sea bottom uplifted in 1954 showing a large coral reef sticking up above sea level. Because of this, Urbina Bay is one of the newest features in the Galapagos. This visitor site is located at west of Isabela and provides spectacular views of the Alcedo volcano. The long trail starts on the beach where a wet landing is made. In this location, you will likely see wild Galapagos Giant Tortoises and Galapagos Land Iguanas. As the trail circles back towards the shoreline, you'll come across colonies of the unique Galapagos Flightless Cormorant which lost its ability to fly. This is also a great spot for snorkeling, as you can come close to a Galapagos Penguin Colony and see Galapagos Marine Iguanas feeding underwater.

Hermes - Central & Northern Islands

Espinoza & Vicente Roca Point

AM: Espinosa Point on Fernandina Island is one of the most pristine islands in the world, with none of man’s introduced species to date. From here we can see the island of Isabela across the Bolívar Channel, an area that boasts some of the highest diversity of endemic sea fauna in the Galapagos. Fernandina is the youngest of the Galapagos Islands and a visitor favorite. When landing, check out the tidal pools where there is an abundance of sea life, including small fish and mollusks. If we are lucky, a sea turtle or ray may be trapped in the pools. A little further ahead we will pass through some marine iguana burrows and sea lion colonies. The trail continues to where several flightless cormorants have their nests. This remarkable bird is only found in the western Galapagos, and experts estimate that there may only be a few hundred individuals in total.

PM: Vicente Roca Point has great deep-water snorkeling at one of the richest marine havens on Earth (Bolivar Channel). Vicente Roca Point is renowned for its Galápagos green turtles, which are very numerous on the bay. Although the spot is known for its high concentration of green turtles, sharks, and rays can also be observed when underwater visibility is good. We take a dinghy ride along the coast to observe a great diversity of sea and coastal birds;

Nazca and blue-footed boobies, noddies, brown pelicans, penguins, flightless cormorants. The upwelling of coldwater currents in this part of the Galapagos gives rise to an abundance of marine life. Our snorkeling will take us along the cliffs and offer the chance to explore two shallow underwater caves with rich marine wildlife.

Hermes - Central & Northern Islands

Puerto Egas & Buccaner Cove

AM: Morning excursion to Puerto Egas to see the salt crater as well as a dark sand beach and tidal pools. Explore the spectacular shoreline of Puerto Egas, also known as James Bay. Spot a great number of shore birds and reptiles – the beach area is home to a plethora of wildlife. Grab a snorkel and jump into the water right off the beach to explore Puerto Egas' interesting underwater world. Keep your eyes peeled for rays, turtles, and reef sharks while snorkeling. After, visit the large tidal pool area – marine iguanas and Sally Lightfoot crabs are everywhere.

PM: Continue to Playa Espumilla, one of the most idyllic beaches in the Galápagos Islands, which boasts thick mangroves and flamingo and sea turtle nesting sites. Head to Buccaneer Cove to witness the towering cliff wall rock formations.  Jump into the panga and cruise alongside high cliffs and rock formations on this visit to Buccaneer Cove, which was a favorite hideout for pirates looking to stock up their boats with food and water. Spot sea lions relaxing on the beach and sea birds nesting in the cove – there’s lots to see at this site.

Hermes - Central & Northern Islands

AM: Visit North Seymour for guided walks to observe birds and wildlife, including vast sea lion colonies. Have an amazing wildlife experience visiting North Seymour Island – this island is teeming with life! Follow trails to see all the action (you may need to give way to a passing sea lion or marine iguana while walking). See blue-footed booby nests where mating pairs perform their courtship dance. Head to a rocky shore to see flocks of pelicans having lunch in a dive bomb-feeding frenzy, then turn inland to a large nesting site of magnificent frigate birds. These huge, dark acrobats have two-metre (6.5 ft) wingspans, and males, with their puffed-up scarlet throat sacks, sit precariously perched in low bushes to watch over their equally large chicks. Top off the excursion with a snorkel among sea lions and rays.

Disembark at Baltra for a flight back to Ecuador's mainland.

Hermes - Central & Northern Islands

5 Day - B Eastern Islands

itinerary map

AM: Transfer to the boat to meet the guide and get on board. In the afternoon, enjoy the highlands. Visit a tortoise ranch and see some of the amazing volcanic formations in Santa Cruz.

PM: Visit the highlands of Santa Cruz and see the Galápagos giant tortoise in its natural surroundings. Explore the area and its incredible underground lava tunnels – some are more than 1km (.6 mi) long! Wander along the volcanic tubes and watch for the (mainly) nocturnal barn owls that sometimes roost here.

Hermes - Central & Eastern Islands

Rabida Island & Bartolome

AM: Arrive at a red sand beach at Rábida to explore its trails. A short trail leads to a saltwater lagoon; another trail goes past the lagoon to the interior, where the revered palo santo trees grow. (When burned, the branches of this tree give off a pleasing aroma and ward off mosquitoes.) Head back to the beach to see prehistoric-looking pelicans nesting among low-lying bushes – it's a rare treat to watch parent pelicans return with gullets full of fish for the squawking youngsters.

Take a panga ride from the beach to a cliff wall that drops off into the water to find one of the best deep-water snorkeling spots in the islands.

PM: In the afternoon, hike to Bartolomé's summit for a stronger perspective of the islands' not-too-distant volcanic origins, and enjoy a panoramic view – it’s one of the best among the islands! See other Galápagos Islands in the distance and Pinnacle Rock, the island’s famous towering landmark.

Hermes - Central & Eastern Islands

South Plaza & Santa Fe

AM: Visit South Plaza, one of the smallest islands in the Galápagos, which has one of the largest populations of land iguanas. Walk along a path through a cactus forest and view a combination of dry and coastal vegetation on this lively island, home to a wide range of fauna, including incredible birdlife. Spot red-billed tropicbirds and indigenous swallow-tailed gulls resting on the cliffs, and sea lions playing in the waters.

PM: Lace up your hiking boats to explore the island's flora and fauna. Trek toward the cliffs along the island's northern shore to see a forest of giant prickly pear cacti (Opuntia). See endemic land iguanas lounging in their favorite forest, and feasting on Opuntia pads and fruit.

Pitt Point & Cerro Brujo

AM: Enjoy amazing wildlife watching and interesting geological formations on this fascinating expedition. Arrive at a quiet cove on the eastern tip of San Cristóbal to explore Punta Pitt. Made up of volcanic tuff substrate, it's the only site in the Galápagos where it's possible to see three species of boobies and two species of frigatebirds. Snorkel around Punta Pitt Island and spot schools of fish swimming below. On the shore admire the nesting birds and sunbathing sea lions.

PM: Visit Cerro Brujo to explore its coastline, and look for wildlife on the beach, in the water, and in the air. Learn about the human and natural history of the area from the Galápagos CEO. Take a refreshing dip in the turquoise water, and head out on a short walk to a freshwater lagoon – a great place to see flamingos.

Hermes - Central & Eastern Islands

AM: In the morning, visit Isla Lobos and be greeted by sea lions frolicking in the waves. Explore this tiny island by foot and boat for some great wildlife encounters. Take a panga ride to view the sea and shore birds nesting and feeding. Spot a small colony of blue-footed boobies as well as two species of sea lions.

After this last visit, transfer to Puerto Baquerizo Moreno airport.

Ultra-luxury catamaran coming to the Galapagos

12-berth hermes mega catamaran is slated to launch in april 2025.

Go back to the e-newsletter

Ecuadorian destination management company, Via Natura , expects to launch a “game-changing” purpose-built expedition vessel in the Galapagos Islands in 12 months, targeting the ultra-high-net-worth traveller.

Esteban Velásquez, Chief Executive Officer of Via Natura debriefed LATTE on the project last month at Serandipians’ The Essence of Luxury Travel show in Marbella, Spain.

Hermes Mega Catamaran will be an all-suite, all-balcony 12-berth vessel operating itineraries ranging from four- to 15-nights in duration. Onboard there will be a signature menu served by a renowned Ecuadorian chef, a premium beverage package included, butler service, cooking classes and cocktail lessons, a library, an aperitif lounge, two bars, a spa with Hammam and more. Shore excursions will be offered by experienced naturalist guides from Zodiacs.

Accommodating up to 20 guests, the cabin configuration includes 10 entry-level suites of 35 square metres and two single suites for solo travellers, measuring 20 square metres. Suites will include a private bathroom, walk-in closet, mini-bar, floor-to-ceiling windows, private balcony, and jacuzzi.

“The feeling for a very long time was there really wasn’t a lot of luxury cruising in the Galápagos,” Velásquez told LATTE when discussing the project. “Many people believe that by charging a lot of money, that means luxury. That’s not the case.

“Operators of other new ships think that by having larger rooms, that’s luxury too.”

“What we wanted to offer was a cruise that has the services of a bigger boat in an intimate superyacht setting. I always felt that there was no such product in the Galapagos, that there was this market not being catered to. That market is those that charter boats in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean.”

hermes super yacht

“The feedback we’ve received in the past 18 months is that everybody is amazed by the product. That this is something else. It’s a game-changer,” Velásquez says of the response.

When conceptualising its vessel, Via Natura initially planned to refit an existing boat. However, early into the project when viewing potential boat acquisitions in the Mediterranean to flip, it was clear to Velásquez that to offer all the bells and whistles the UHNW individual of today requires, a custom-build project was necessary.

“I quickly realised I was not going to get the size of the rooms and the services we wanted to have with a remodelled vessel, so, in the end, we decided to build from scratch,” Velásquez said of the project, which is now well underway.

hermes super yacht

“We want to pamper our guests with big suites and balconies, including private Jacuzzis. Guests will be spoilt with butler service and we feature sofa beds for families so suites can be converted into triples, or accommodated in interconnecting suites.”

“Our library/reading room can also be repurposed for families or if we require multi-language speaking services for groups.”

Velásquez said: “There are other catamarans in the Galapagos, but they all look the same. We wanted our catamaran to look like a yacht. The design has a very masculine, powerful look and we wanted to transmit that to our customers.”

hermes super yacht

Via Natura also chose to construct the ship in its home country, taking advantage of local builders and artisans, and supporting the Ecuadorian economy. Being developed at home also has the added advantage of tweaks and adjustments to be made during the construction phase.

Originally, Hermes Mega Catamaran was planned to be 45 metres in length, but that is edging closer to 50 metres now, Velásquez tells LATTE . It will be the second biggest catamaran in the world, he says.

Via Natura will target the 40 to 60-70 year old market with Hermes Mega Catamaran. “But we’re also thinking about the future guest and the younger generation of travellers, in their late 30s.”

hermes super yacht

He says earlier clients that travelled to the Galápagos were “nature buffs”.

“People that felt lucky enough to be there and they wanted to go for a full week with a list of the animals and marine life they wanted to see. But the newer generation of traveller want to be in Galápagos, but they aren’t necessarily nature lovers or want to stay for a full week. Some will say five or six days is enough.

“So we have sailings of four days to 15 days, providing guests with the flexibility to pair their cruise with visiting the Ecuadorian highlands, the Amazon or going to Machu Picchu,” he adds.

hermes super yacht

The first model suite of Hermes Mega Catamaran will launch in August, with the boat earmarked for delivery by November 2024. After a period of sea trials, Via Natura expects the first commercial sailing in April 2025.

Bookings opened for Hermes in September 2023. The average per day rate aboard Hermes Mega Catamaran will be approximately US$420 entry rate.

Hermes features 12 spacious convertible suites across the main and upper decks. (Ten are doubles and two are singles.) Each suite sports floor-to-ceiling windows, a walk-in closet, a private bathroom, a minibar, and a scenic private balcony with a Jacuzzi. The premium beverage menu is complimentary, so you can sip on something tasty while enjoying the views.

Beyond the suites, Hermes showcases several upscale social areas indoors and out. The compact multihull offers amenities akin to a larger cruise ship, too. The large welcome area leads to a contemporary interior with two plush lounges, a fully stocked library, and a spa with a Hammam overlooking the ocean. The exterior is home to an aperitif lounge and a spacious sundeck with an alfresco dining area, an observation zone, and a Jacuzzi flanked by sunbeds.

Gourmands will also be catered to on the cruise. A renowned Ecuadorian chef has prepared a signature menu highlighting the fascinating flavors of Ecuadorian cuisine. In addition, seafarers can try their hands at delicious local dishes and morish tipples via cooking lessons and cocktail classes.

As for exploration, the itineraries range from three to 14 nights and include stops at amazing far-flung destinations. Highlights include Gardner Bay, Black Turtle Cove, Santa Fe Island, and Buccaneer Cove. Two experienced naturalist guides will be on hand to share their knowledge during hikes, snorkeling, kayaking, and more.

Hermes Catamaran King Suite

Rates for a three-night adventure start at $6,195 for a double or single suite and $117,705 for a private charter. You can find more information at the Via Natura website .

Guest Reviews

This was a tremendous trip for us. We were on the boat for 3 nights and 4 days. The wildlife and the snorkelling was amazing. Like other trips in this area, breakfast 7.30 and then off for a half day excursion . Back for lunch and then away again either snorkelling or walking on the Islands. So many photo opportunities! The guides are knowledgeable and friendly.

Hermes | Galapagos Catamaran

Hermes

The Hermes Catamaran revolutionizes luxury cruising in the Galapagos by offering a perfect blend of comfort, exceptional service, and unforgettable experiences both onboard and on land. It challenges the notion that you have to sacrifice comfort on a large cruise ship to enjoy intimacy on a smaller vessel.

Moreover, when you embark on a cruise aboard the Hermes Catamaran, you also contribute to the conservation of Galapagos' wildlife through the Endemic Reforestation Program on Santa Cruz Island.

With our dedication to personalized service and meticulous attention to detail, we strive to create the ideal environment for an extraordinary adventure on these magical islands.

State-of-the-art deluxe suites

The Hermes Catamaran boasts 12 generously sized convertible suites located on the main and upper decks of the vessel. These suites, consisting of 10 double and 2 single accommodations, feature private bathrooms, air conditioning, walk-in closets, mini bars, floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies, and jacuzzis.

Elegant social areas

In contrast to the belief that only large ships offer a wide range of social spaces, the Hermes Catamaran provides various indoor and outdoor areas for socializing. Indoors, you will find a welcoming area, two lounges, and a library. Outdoor options include an aperitif lounge, a spacious sundeck with al-fresco dining, an open area with reclining chairs, and an observation zone.

Additional services offered onboard

We offer complimentary snorkeling equipment in average sizes, wetsuits in different sizes on a first-come, first-served basis, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. Cooking and cocktail lessons, unpacking service, and 24/7 butler service are also provided free of charge. Massages are available for an extra fee and can be booked onboard.

Additional information

Please note that it is mandatory to use the flights arranged by our cruise company. A penalty fee of USD 50 will be applied if other flights are used. Flight rates and schedules are subject to change without prior notice.

If you choose to book your flight to the Galapagos independently and it arrives earlier than our scheduled operational flight, you will need to wait at the Galapagos airport until the rest of the group on your cruise arrives. If your Galapagos flight arrives later than our scheduled flight, additional transportation costs may apply to reach the yacht. The same applies to your return flight to Quito or Guayaquil. Please be aware that any missed excursions cannot be reimbursed when you book your own flights.

Wild Water: Test driving the Hermes Speedster by Seven Seas

Related articles.

Named for a Greek deity, the Hermes Speedster by Seven Seas is a divine attention-grabber, says Kevin Koenig ...

As usual, the 2021 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show was littered with glitzy and architectural tours de force. There was the 76 metre Feadship Boardwalk towering above show-goers with her Airbus H130 chopper sitting like heavy fruit on her after decks. There was the Ocean Alexander 35R , with a gleaming interior by Evan K Marshall that was so impressive it won a Best of Show award.

But for my money, the most talked-about vessel at the show measured a mere 6.7 metres long and cost about $249,000. The boat in question was the Hermes Speedster by Greek builder Seven Seas, and all it took was one glimpse to understand her appeal. With a delicate camber to her foredeck and loads of tumblehome aft, the coupé is so gracefully penned as to look organic. Particularly when painted a creamy eggshell as she was, the Speedster is a sprinter’s hamstring in repose – capable and taut.

And that’s just the exterior. The interior of the display boat was done in a soft and intricately stitched red leather, and replete with automotive touches such as a minimalistic, chrome-framed rear-view mirror, shiny analogue gauges and bucket seats that call to mind classic roadsters. This is not by accident. The Hermes Speedster was in large part inspired by the Porsche 356, a precursor to today’s omnipresent 911.

The amount of attention the boat received at the Fort Lauderdale show was, of course, not lost on Cole Adams, head of East Coast operations for Seven Seas Americas. “We were in a great spot at the show to have a lot of eyes on us,” he says. “It was a better reception than we could have imagined. We had this boat up in Bridgeport, Connecticut, for the Steelpointe show last summer, but of course Fort Lauderdale is a much bigger venue. We ended up selling both of our display boats, plus a few more. The attention will help us extend our brand to the Great Lakes and the West Coast as well. Right now we are hoping to sell 10 more boats in the first six months of 2022.”

I tested the Hermes Speedster just after the boat show in the Intracoastal Waterway. (Yes, this boat is gorgeous, but no, I was not clamoring to take her outside in the four-to-five-foot seas.) Before we could even unload the trailer at the 15th Street boat ramp, she had attracted further attention, and just the kind Seven Seas wants.

The man was your typical Fort Lauderdale show Buyer, with a capital B. He had just popped out of an Uber by himself to meet his captain aboard a large center console. He was almost completely unassuming in board shorts and a ratty T-shirt. But the Rolex Pepsi on his wrist gave him away.

“Hey, what kind of boat is that?” he asked, eyeing the model name on the gunwale. “My wife would love that. She has Hermès everything, so why not a boat?”

Adams had to politely explain that the Hermes is named after the Greek messenger god, not the fabled Parisian accessory brand – a common misconception. But it made no matter to the would-be buyer. “Well, I like the look of her anyway,” he replied before leaning back on a heel and taking in her lines. “You got a card?”

Adams and I shortly hopped into the little boat and puttered away from the ramp and down the no-wake zone past the Bahia Mar hotel, where the show had been held. There was not a cloud in the sky on what passed for a crisp, South Florida autumn morning.

The sun dazzled overhead, its reflection blazing a golden trail ahead of us down the canal. At the helm I leaned my left elbow out over the side of the boat and stiff-armed the wheel. Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams played on the stereo: “Now here you go again/you say you want your freedom.” And the vibes, as the kids say, were immaculate.

Once we passed the no-wake zone I opened up the throttle and the Speedster’s 170-horsepower Bombardier Rotax engine rocketed us down the canal at 43mph, a brag-worthy speed that feels much faster when you’re down so close to the water. Throttling into hard-over turns, the boat’s aft end spun out like a jet ski’s before pinning into place and darting us back in the direction whence we came. Over the blasting wind and spray I turned to Adams and shouted “She’s fun as hell to drive!”

We dropped her back down to a few miles per hour and crept back up the no-wake zone past the show with a parade of other slow-moving boats. As we passed a docked sportfisher being cleaned by a crew member, the salty gentleman singled us out and began to yell about a wake which, I assure you, we were not throwing. Some South Florida, big-boy words were exchanged. And as we left the sportfisher behind I turned to Adams and said, “That was weird. I wonder why he singled us out from everyone else?”

Adams just smiled and replied, “Because when you’re driving a boat like this, it’s all anyone ever sees.”

WHY  Wally Hermes Yachts

WHY Wally-Hermès Yachts all images courtesy Hermès

WHY Wally-Hermès Yachts is the new company created by french luxury brand Hermès and monaco based yacht maker Wally, dedicated to a new lifestyle of living on the sea.

designing a boat with a new concept is not an utopia. at every turn the yacht offers maximum space, durability and cutting-edge technologies. the exchange with Wally and Hermès was rooted deeply in terms of know how and sharing the same philosophy of this new concept.

the boat is contained in a triangular hull measuring 58m x 38m. there is no superstructure. the initial idea of this hull was confirmed by the ramform hull which they discovered, redesigned and adapted to fit the concept of the wheel house that emerges from the silhouette of the ship. the interior of the yacht is fitted out with water resistant buffalo leather using the calpinage technique.

the yacht which took years in the making has been tested in gotebourg, sweden, in a specialised tank testing facility, to see how it would perform in big seas. the outcome is that, in full swell, the bow moves a tiny bit and the stern stays completely still. anchored, the boat creates a totally flat surface behind it, like an olympic-size pool where you can swim in total peace. on the bow, there’s a seawater pool 25 metres long that follows the curve of the bow.

the environmental and ecological advantages are a strong point of the boat WHY. different sources of energy are managed by a central computer.

the yacht is powered using a diesel electric engine. a surface of the photovolatic panels which measure approximately 900 square meters provide the solar electricity generated which covers part of what is needed to subsist the boat.

an encounter, … the concept was developed by president and CEO of Wally luca bassani antivari, artistic director of Hermès, pierre-alexis dumas and design director of Hermès gabriele pezzini.

a special WHY team has been built to reply to any needs.

‘everybody’s dream is to live on an island, in complete freedom, without constraint, with the independence that only self-sufficiency can provide. a piece of land with a beautiful villa partly fulfils this aspiration because it is static. a yacht offers the freedom to move, but does not have the space of a property. WHY has it all: space, stability, movement, independence, peace. WHY goes even further. this revolutionary concept of the moving island is developed with the latest and most advanced sustainable technologies, recycling thermal energy, as well as any organic and inorganic waste. the architecture of the whole project fits perfectly in the environment – there are no excesses, nothing is superfluous, the impact on the sea is minimum. a new and unique way to live on the sea while caring about it, protecting it, and loving it. all this has always been my dream too, and when I met pierre-alexis dumas I realised that this dream could come true thanks to the common values and ethical principles we share.’ luca bassani antivari, president and CEO of Wally

‘from the invention of the compass to block capitals, from the rudder to the first steps on the moon, man discovers and pursues his dreams. with its feet on the ground and its head in the stars, Hermès, since its creation in 1837, has grown, generation after generation, through innovative projects, executed with high standards and an artisan spirit.I have always thrived on the dreams of great visionaries like magellan, jules verne, saint-exupéry and paul klee. like theirs, the path of Hermès is to pursue its dreams… excelling itself, learning, pushing ever further the quest for excellence and the celebration of beauty in the world. a world we must protect. today, Hermès steps into the marine world with Wally. we quickly recognised our common values, the values of well-made, singular, functional, refined and elegant objects. this encounter was just what we needed to inspire us to brave the open seas. together, with luca bassani antivari, we hope to open a new path, to offera new lifestyle that is different, serene, contemplative and respectful of the environment, moving slowly on the water, combining the pleasure of sailing and absolute comfort. Wally Hermès Yachts – WHY – is the union of our dreams, the green path that carries us away in its wake…’  pierre-alexis dumas, artistic director of Hermès

‘over the course of your discussions coasting against the current, how did you come up with the idea of a triangular hull?’

pierre-alexis dumas: my inspiration is still the greek caïque, roomy, generous and slow. this eulogy to slowness is demonstrated in such a magnificent way. a pared-down craft with nothing superfluous about it. we needed a stable hull in order to hold the sea comfortably. the idea of a triangular hull, which doesn’t exist in the world of leisure boating, came from the utilitarian merchant marine.

luca bassani antivari: I came across a picture of a supertanker while reading a professional magazine. a cable-handling vessel, used in the geo-mining and seismological industry in the north sea, invented by a norwegian naval engineer, roar ramde, and fully patented. there was nothing new about this ship. it had been in use for twenty-five years. as soon as I saw it, I picked up the phone and called my consultant naval architect, mauro sculli. he looked in the RINA, the italian naval classification registry: never seen or heard of before in the world of yachting! it was perfect. we had our hull. we bought exclusive rights to the concept, patented strictly for yachting.

pierre-alexis dumas: WHY addresses the very real problem of consumption, which is today exacerbated by the global context. we provide an answer in a field where clients are responsible for setting an example, embracing a new ethic. what this market needs is a boat designed with the environment in mind. this new way of moving on water must give way to a new way of managing energy, its sources and uses, how to recycle it, etc. the same goes for the choice of materials; we have to limit the effect on the environment.

gabriele pezzini: we didn’t design a boat, we gave shape to an idea. the sea is one of the last spaces where people can indulge in absolute freedom. deciding to live on the sea means rethinking everything that’s been done before. you need to start from scratch! for example, we provide a real jogging track inspired by coastal paths running around the ship. above all, we had to transpose and translate functions into forms, and vice versa, by merging the viewpoints of Hermès and Wally.

‘what are the environmental and ecological advantages of WHY ?’

pierre-alexis dumas: ours requires less power at cruising speed than a boat of equal size. its diesel-electric motorisation is the most efficient motorisation out there today, and the surface of the photovoltaic panels, almost 900 square metres, covers part of what’s needed to subsist on the boat! we’re also looking into a telescopic wind-turbine system and a retractable mast with a computer-operated sail measuring over 200 square metres that will produce at least 30 % of the energy used to propel the boat.

Being Wally

Wally stands for avant garde, restless development and the conviction that form should follow function. Since 1994, these principles have spurred us to create some of the most emblematic yachts afloat. Our only rule is that there are no rules.

Boat in focus

Demand for a smaller yacht in our wallywhy range inspired Wally to create a crossover boat that combines the same spirit of bold innovation and volume in a more nimble package. Coming in under 70ft LOA, the wallywhy100 is a coupé that really challenges the genre.

A new art of living on the sea is born

WHY, Wally Hermès Yacht

A new art of living on the sea is born

WHY , Wally Hermès Yachts , today unveils a revolutionary approach to cruising in motor yachts with the presentation of a full size model of its first born, an innovative 58metre-long 38metre-wide yacht, in Ancona's shipyard.

Wally Hermès Yachts: a joint-venture WHY is the result of the joint-venture signed in June 2008 between Hermès and Wally , to develop a new type of motor yacht redefining the art of living on the sea. The iconic Parisian house and the iconic Monaco yacht brand formed an equal partnership whereby each company is fully involved in all aspects of the conception and design of each project.

Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Artistic Director of Hermèssays : “When we met, in autumn 2007, Luca Bassani Antivari, President of Wally had thought about asking Hermès to accessorise the interior of one of his boats. I was impressed by the daring of his projects. My instinct was to get on board with him and go and seek out new territories in yacht design, but I had no interest in speed.”

Luca Bassani Antivari explains: “What I’ve always liked about Hermès, aside from its intrinsic quality, is its audacity and radicalism; its desire to go beyond trends, to make no compromises and to maintain the authenticity of the house. Wally shares the same values, ‘Hermès-on-Land’, ‘Wally-on-Sea’: inevitably our paths had to cross.”

WHY 58x38 The common values of the two brands have led to a first yacht that offers an unparalleled living space at sea. WHY was developed to give life to this concept assembling a team of dedicated talents in design, engineering, and naval architecture.

Then the tried and tested Norwegian Ramform hull characterised by exceptional and unprecedented stability and volume and spottedby Luca Bassani Antivari, revealed itself as the ideal choice to be adapted to the WHY 58x38 project.

Following this unique adaptation, the decks and the interiors were developed in accordance with the fundamental credo of WHY, 'form-equals-function'. Thus were born other innovations in the world of mega yachts: patios generously flooding the interior with natural light, photovoltaic panels on the glass hull sides, as well as on the roof opening, like Venetian blinds, a 25 metre-long forward end swimming pool, and a 36-metre aftdeck beach.

WHY 58x38 offers comfort, privacy, stability, space, independence and sustainability.

Sustainability “We are very interested in creating a yacht that will have a low environmental impact”, says Pierre-Alexis Dumas. “Its relationship with the sea must berespectful and easy. WHY intends to offer a new way of moving over water by creating an innovative way of managing and recycling its sources and uses of energy.”

“If you want to go totally ecological, it’s only sailing yacht. The reality is that today, 90% of the market is powerboats, echoes Luca Bassani Antivari. Our aim is to reduce diesel consumption per year and per yacht: 20 to 30% for propulsion and 40 to 50% for generation.”

Thanks to its specific hull, WHY 58x38 requires less power at cruising speed than a boat of equal size. Its diesel-electric propulsion is the most efficient motorisation today, and the surface of the photovoltaic panels, almost 900square metres, covers most of the boat’s auxiliary system needs.

WHY Research and Development plan to optimize this project’s energy consumption by improving the isolation of the yacht and the heat recovery of its engines, and is also investigating the latest wind energy production and wind propulsion system technologies.

In comparison to a yacht of the same size, WHY 58x38 has been conceived to reduce drastically its energy consumption, saving up to 200tons of diesel per year.

The WHY R&D program includes tank testing for hull stability in the SSPA facilities in Sweden, and the construction of a full-scale mock-up in order to allow the design team to fine tune the living areas correctly in accordance with the hull’s unique shape.

The WHY 58X38 yacht looks very unfamiliar but it remains on a human scale. Space is the greatest luxury on the sea, but I believe the new luxury will be the time to enjoy it”, concludes Pierre-Alexis Dumas.

WHY Wally-Hermes Yacht concept is island living at sea

By superyachts.com

A new yacht concept fit for lovers of space and sustainability at sea, WHY combines Hermes style with Wally design for a truly unique luxury superyacht.

Touted as a “moving island” the motor yacht has been developed with the latest in sustainable technologies and the architecture of the project has been created to fit perfectly with the environment without excesses.

Measuring 58 metres in length and possessing a massive beam of 38 metres, the luxury yacht will accommodate 12 guests and 20 crew across 3,400 square-metres of guest surface area.

WHY came about after the signing of a joint-venture in June 2008, joining Wally President Luca Bassani Antivari and Hermes Artistic Director Pierre-Alexis Dumas in a goal to redefine the art of living on sea.

Spread across three levels are three distinctly different spaces with each designated to a separate function. Level one is home to a generous common living space featuring a 30m beach area with naturally-lit spa, 25 metre pool, and helipad outside and inside a salon with dining room, music room and cinema.

Level two houses the five guest suites, a lounge and library. Two of the guest suites have direct access to the terrace and each has different views of the ocean. Level three is dedicated to the owner; the master space consists of a 200 square-metre suite that boasts panoramic sea views from the private 25m wide terrace.

Wally Hermes Yachts has unveiled a full-size model of its first ever project in Ancona’s shipyard. Naval architecture for the project is by Mauro Sculli, naval engineering by Roar Ramde of Ramform, and interior architecture is by Denis Montel of RDAI.

She will be capable of a top speed of 14 knots and is anticipated to cruise at a speed of 12 knots.

"Measuring 58m x 38m, the luxury yacht will accommodate 12 guests and 20 crew across 3,400 square-metres of guest surface area."
