Firstaway Yacht Charters offers a range of loved and well maintained boats for bareboat and skippered yacht charter from the Solent.

Based in Shamrock Quay Marina in Southampton, with yachts here, and in Town Quay Marina in Southampton and on the River Hamble we are perfectly placed for South Coast and Solent sailing.  Visit places such as Beaulieu in the New Forest, Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, Cowes - also on the Isle of Wight and perhaps the yachting capital of the World (?), Newtown Creek, Portsmouth Harbour, Bembridge, Wooton Creek plus others.   For cruising further afield there is the West Country, France or the Channel Islands.

In addition to bareboat and skipper charter we team building activities and corporate sailing events, for all levels of sailing experience.

We also have options to book individual berths on boats in yachting races like Round the Island Race and the Rolex Fastnet Race.

Also based in Shamrock Quay, Southampton they are an RYA Recognised Training Centre.  They run the full range of RYA sailing courses including the shorebased theory courses - Day Skipper Theory Course, Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Theory Course and Ocean Yachtmaster Theory course; all the practical courses - Competent Crew, Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Prep; and the full range of 1 day supplementary courses - VHF Radio, Sea Survival, Diesel Engine Maintenance and First Aid.

Solent Sailing

The Solent is a fantastic place to sail.  One could say the Solent stretches from Portsmouth and the forts just south of Portsmouth to the start of the Needles Channel.  Within this area there are numerous places to pull into port and explore, each with something different to offer.  Two big ports, charming market towns, the bustling Hamble River, the beautiful Bucklers Hard up the Beaulieu River in the heart of the New Forest, anchorages positioned to let you watch the world go by.  They are all within a stone's throw (short sail) of each other meaning you can visit several South Coast locations during your charter, making it popular for a day, a yacht weekend or a week. Due to the popularity of sailing on the Solent, many people are searching online for terms such as yacht hire Solent , yacht rental Solent , boat hire Solent , boat rental Solent , and, if you're local, yacht charter near me . There is also a huge variety of craft in the Solent.  It is not uncommon to see high performance racing yachts in Cowes, oil tankers, fishing boats, day boats, sailing school boats, round the world luxury cruising yachts, round the world racing yachts, old gaffers, classic keel boats, kite surfers, windsurfers, big expensive power boats, smaller expensive power boats, sailing dinghies in Gosport, ribs of all shapes and sizes, cruise ships, a hoover craft and high speed ferries.  All within a day.  Yet the Solent does still offer peaceful hideaways to get away from it all. There are few real physical obstructions to boats within the Solent.  There is the odd ledge There is the Bramble Bank just to the north and east of Cowes but that is about it.  There is a shipping channel one must be aware off and local bylaws that one needs to adhere to. Solent tides are interesting, and it is necessary to have a good awareness of what the tide is doing at all times.  Due to the shape of the land and the Isle of Wight the Solent gets 'double highs'. Just beyond the Solent on the South coast there is Poole and Weymouth to the west, Bembridge, Langstone and Chichester Harbours to the East.

Embark on a luxury sailing adventure aboard our New fleet of Charter yachts from 10m to 65m complete with a Skipper and a 1st Mate/Chef. Departing from Gosport, Portsmouth and Shamrock Quay, Southampton from March 10th 2025, to October 31, 2025, our charters offer an exquisite sailing experience. Weekend charters run from 7 PM on Fridays to 4 PM on Sundays, with extensions to 4 PM on Mondays during Bank Holidays. Weekday charters are available from 7 PM on Tuesdays to 4 PM on Fridays. Additionally, enjoy our  5-day Luxury Da y Skipper Course for up to four students. Destinations include yacht trip to Cowes, Lymington, Hamble River, Osborne Bay, Southampton Water, Yarmouth, Beaulieu River, Chichester, and Poole. Please note that all sailing charters are subject to change based on weather conditions.

Your c harter can commence from various locations in and around the Solent to suit your itinerary, so join us and our team of highly skilled crew whilst we take you for a fantastic adventure around the Solent or the Isle of Wight. 

Accommodation

Below decks there is a spacious air-conditioned saloon with TV and Wi-Fi, a fully equipped galley, three double cabins and two bathrooms.

Facilities include TVs, a sound system, fridges, ice-makers and a fridge galley for drinks on the main deck.

Departing from Ocean Village we will take you on an exciting day-time sightseeing cruise around the Solent and the Isle of Wight. Alternatively we can start your charter with a local collection from mainland harbours like Beaulieu, Hamble, Lymington or Portsmouth, or from Cowes or Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.

We have excellent local knowledge and will be able to recommend venues to suit taste, desired atmosphere and budget and have contacts at the best restaurants where availability otherwise may not be obtainable.

We work with you to create the perfect day for your guests, staff or clients. You may wish to watch a major yachting event or just cruise the Solent, soaking up the sun, scenery and drinks on offer. Meet in Southampton Ocean Village Marina and be greeted by your Host for the day and make your way to the pontoon to where “Bellarina” is berthed, The Skipper will welcome you on board and provide a full safety briefing; ​including life jacket fitting whilst savouring a glass of Champagne with a light breakfast.

Head out on The Solent and create everlasting memories with various photo opportunities.

Cruising in and around The Solent, taking in the many sights and head to your chosen destination to moor up for your pre-booked lunch.

The Maiden Factor has inspired many of us, raising funds and awareness for girls’ education, and sailing with an all-female crew she has continued to be a force for breaking barriers over the last 6 years!

We have fond memories of waving Tracy Edwards MBE and her all-female crew back in September 2023 as a support boat and it’s been wonderful to see her return home!

Built in 1961 of pitch pine, with oak frames and a teak deck, Seafin was one of the last wooden vessels built by John J Thorneycroft of Southampton. With an intriguing history , she was once owned by the well-known Profumo family in 1967. She has been run as a charter vessel since 1986, with 38 years of experience as an event venue. These days she remains moored at Port Hamble Marina and is ready to await guests for a little day of luxury.

Round the Island Race, – 15th July 2024 Round the Island Race is a fantastic event that sees world-renowned sailors competing against families, Sailing schools, and first-time racers. Around 1400 yachts take part, making it one of the largest races in the world!

Taittinger Regatta,  12-14 July 2024 Set in the beautiful Western Solent, right near The Needles, this three-day regatta is the ultimate mix of competitive inshore racing and champagne! Sponsored by Taittinger Champagne and hosted by the Royal Solent Yacht Club from Yarmouth, this is a weekend you won\’t want to miss.

Rolex Fastnet Race start line, (Returning 26 July 2025) The Rolex Fastnet Race is one of the most exciting and challenging offshore races in the world. In the last edition, the entry capacity was full in 4 minutes! This is a seriously popular event! The race starts off Cowes a the Royal Yacht Squadron line, then the fleet heads out of the Solent past The Needles and along the South Coast of England. Demand for places seems to grow each year and is expected to be higher than ever in 2025 with over 450 expected on the start line. Run bi-annually, the event will return to our local shores in 2025!

Cowes Week, July 27 – August 2 2024 (fireworks Friday 2 August) Since 1826 Cowes Week has played a key part in the British sporting summer calendar and is one of the UK\’s longest-running and most successful sporting events. It now stages up to 40 daily races for around 1,000 boats and is the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world.

Be thoroughly spoilt with the ‘Instagrammable’ scenic backdrops of the HUT Colwell Bay, soak up the history and architecture of 18th-century village Buckler’s Hard in Beaulieu, or venture to the international yachting mecca that is Cowes, Isle of Wight.

Always one to welcome people into the wheelhouse during our excursions, he loves company and has been immensly popular part of the crew. An experienced sea farer, Fred has navigated the Solent many times with extensive knowledge of our local shores. Fred was actually involved with Seafin long before he stepped up as Skipper, having previously worked in Hythe Marina slipping the boat and has experience in the marine industry spanning over 40 years!

If the walls could talk on board Seafin they would certainly have some stories to share, like wise does our Skipper Fred!From catching lobsters to bollywood filming on deck he has seen it all and he isn’t frightened to get his hands dirty! Having helped with Seafin’s winter maintainence buffing, polishing and painting over the years.

We’re so sad to see him go however wish him well with his retirement. A heartfelt thank you for his many years of service and the happy memories along the way. Our Operations Manager Paul is working closely with Adam to plan for the season we ahead. Paul has worked closely alongside Fred for many years so is passing on his knowledge and experience as the future of Seafin moves forward.

Such a treat to see the world’s best kite racers from the Olympic circuit whizzing around the waters off Eastney Beach for the title of European champion.

The finals weekend took place 23-24 September and was a free event for specators on the shore.

Seafin’s top deck provided the perfect venue to view all the action on the water up close whilst the world’s best riders battled it out just metres away from us.

A big congratulations to Ellie Aldridge from GBR for taking the women’s title.

‘Last weekend I had the best day with my work family. I organised an awesome social event and the whole day was perfect, even the weather was spot on! We had a chartered traditional motor yacht for the day and Seafin Charters took us over to the I.O.W where we anchored up to get the jet skis and paddleboards out, then they laid on a beautiful lunch and drinks were flowing whilst we sailed over to Buckler\’s Hard. The 7.5 hours literally flew by but I guess that’s just the sign of a fab day!

Round the Island Saturday 25th June 2022 Round the Island is a one-day yacht race around the Isle of Wight, with over 1,500 boats, crewed by some of the biggest names in sailing as well as keen amateur sailors, skim past The Needles, the Island’s distinctive rocky structure, round St Catherine’s Point and Bembridge Ledge and back into the Solent. Britain\’s favourite yacht race!

30 July- 5 August 2022 Cowes week is a popular sailing event, which sees thousands of competitors taking part, one of the oldest and most respected regattas in the world. The event lasts for seven days a is a key part of the British sporting summer calendar! One of the UK\’s longest-running and most successful sporting events, this is one not to miss!

Our friendly team alternated days on the exhibit, we took along our rebranded and refreshed boat specifications for each of the yachts on the fleet and our rebranded business cards to hand out at the show. With this being the first show back since the pandemic stuck footfall seemed lighter than previous years but the team still managed to hand out all our yacht charter brochures throughout the duration of the show, which was a first for us, showing that UK sailing and staycations for the coming season appear to still be a hugely popular choice.

Cowes Week ~ July 31st ~August 7th

Since 1926 Cowes Week has played a key part in the British sporting calendar and is the UK\’s longest-running and most successful sporting event. It now stages up to 40 daily races for around 1,000 boats and is the largest sailing regatta in the world.

Subject to government relaxation of restrictions we will be able to offer charters for two groups of up to 6 with a maximum of 12 persons onboard. This permits us to run at 50% capacity and allows for social distancing requirements.

If your idea of a holiday is for somebody else to do the cooking we have an extensive range of meals that can be delivered to the boat. Order in advance, at the time you book your Seafin holiday or give us 24 hours’ notice. The food is prepared to order by a local caterer.

PROVISIONING SERVICE

Complete a Tesco provisioning form and we will do your shopping and deliver it to Seafin (Port Hamble). We will take in on board and put food as necessary into the fridge or freezer.

AFTERNOON TEA

Enjoy a genteel afternoon tea sat on one of Seafin’s decks. We will bring the afternoon tea to Seafin and will leave it to you to open the prosecco!

PICNIC HAMPER

Want a picnic lunch to take with you? We can arrange for a picnic hamper to be delivered to Seafin ready for your day out.

JET SKI TOURS If you feel the have a need for speed then you can hire our two jet skis for a half-day( 3 hours). We will accompany you in our RIB, escort you out of the river (where a six-knot speed limit applies) and then take you on a high-speed tour of Southampton Water and into the Solent. We can return to Hamble as needed to refuel and swap passengers.

Over 18s only on the jetskis due to insurance requirements.

At this time of year Paul, Seafin\’s Operations Manager is busy undertaking the various maintenance jobs required to keep Seafin looking and working beautifully.

All her essential checks will be carried out and we will be focusing on servicing her sea cocks and the underside of the boat, antifouling and repainting her top and the propel shafts and bearings will be replaced so she\’s ready for an exciting year ahead!

There are many stunning sailing areas and destinations to choose from. Bespoke fine dining can be enjoyed either on board Salamander at anchor in a beautiful anchorage with stunning idyllic views or ashore in a destination hotel / restaurant. The Salamander Sailing Adventure has inside knowledge and connections with the leading hotels and restaurants in the New Forest, in the towns, villages and cities bordering the Solent and on the Isle of Wight. Let us arrange an unforgettable day out for you, your family and friends or your work colleagues. 

HOW MANY GUESTS ON BOARD SALAMANDER OF LYMINGTON ?

Salamander can entertain up to 12 guests.  Three crew will be provided, normally including a world circumnavigator skipper and two further crew, including a dedicated full-time Steward / Stewardess.

For the ultimate in luxury Salamander Sailing Adventures suggest Salamander is most comfortable when dining with 6 to 8 guests on board, when guests can sit around the same table. If 12 guests wish to dine the lower saloon with its own table can be used. 

For extended cruising, ie in excess of 24 hours, Salamander of Lymington is MCA safety coded to comfortably accommodate 6 guests on board.

WHAT IS THE TYPICAL CHARTER DAY SCHEDULE ON BOARD SALAMANDER OF LYMINGTON ?

We will be happy to discuss any ideas you might have for your particular adventure to try to ensure that you and your guests experience a special time on board Salamander of Lymington. No Charter Day is the same, but a  typical schedule for a day sail could be as follows:-

09:00 - you will be greeted on board Salamander by the skipper and crew, including your steward or stewardess. Your party will be offered coffee and pastries and a brief introduction to Salamander Sailing Adventures and her circumnavigation of the world. Then after a safety briefing and introduction to the layout and facilities on board, the crew will prepare your guests and Salamander for departure.

Salamander will depart at approximately 10:00 and proceed to her destination, either under sail or motor, or a combination of both as the weather and tides permit.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day. Anyone who wishes to take an active part will be encouraged to get involved when it is safe to do so. Previous sailing experience will not be necessary. Alternatively you can simply sit back and enjoy your company and the views.

Lunch on board Salamander at anchor, prepared from fresh local seasonal produce, when possible, or ashore by prior arrangement.

During the afternoon there will be the opportunity for a further sail or motor.

Arrival back in Lymington will be around 16:00, which will give those with onward travel arrangements, plenty of time.

Alternatively, your Adventure might on return to port go on to include afternoon tea in the pilot house saloon, followed by a champagne sundowner on deck, when you will be able to relax and recount your day’s sail, followed by a meal specially arranged for you on shore at a well-known restaurant.

We can also arrange local accommodation for you if you wish.

We have just had another wonderful week on a yacht we chartered from Hamble Point Yacht Charters. We have sailed several of their boats, this time it was a lovely 35 foot Bavaria. Chartering from HPYC is always an easy choice for us: the boats are well maintained, support is excellent, and the staff are always super friendly and helpful. On top of that, Hamble Point is such an ideal starting location for sailing around the Solent.

This is truly a 5 * service. The team really looked after us both ashore on arrival and also while at sea. We were a relatively inexperienced crew but always felt the team ashore had our backs. Thoroughly recommended.

I just wanted to say Thank-you very much for the weekend charter. It was exactly what we were after (albeit cold!) plus Andy was an awesome teacher and great company. We’ll definitely be keen to book again soon!

We had a fabulous four days. Marina is ideally placed for the Solent, boat was in great condition, well equipped and a joy to sail. We were well briefed and the shore side team including the dog very friendly.

We charted one of the sailing yachts for a fantastic weekend cruise in the Solent. The boat was in superb condition and well equipped, the staff was very helpful explaining how things work on the yacht and there was also a video available with all the important information. 10/10 would recommend!

Had a fantastic week chartering Blue Otter, Alex was incredibly helpful and sent loads of information and date checking prior to booking. There was a handover video and both the handover and return were really smooth. The boat was lovely and well maintained and Lee was really helpful in recommending places to visit (and helping identify the steering issue as an autopilot takeover - doh!). Definitely will be back and would fully recommend!

Just back from a lovely week in the Solent. Great service from HPYC from first inquiry through to return handover. Very straightforward to deal with, and the yacht was in excellent condition. We've chartered from many companies in the UK and abroad and the attention to detail (and flawless inventory!) was second to none. Everything about the yacht and equipment had clearly been well looked after and was in immaculate condition. Great service, will use again.

We had a great time sailing with Lee for a few days at the beginning of September. Hamble Point Yacht Charters supplied us an impeccable 45 ft Hanse yacht, which was handled with complete mastery by Captain Lee.It was a privilege to sail with Lee, who is clearly a highly skilled professional taking great pride in his work ... but who is also a fantastic character with a great sense of humour and plenty of fun stories to keep the whole family entertained. He balances the serious side of safety and learning about sailing with a whopping dose of amusement and good cheer. We sailed the Solent in some decent seas, visited Bucklers Hard on the banks of the Beaulieu River and learned lots about British nautical history. Our boys started somewhat of a fishing trend catching bass off the back of the boat in Portsmouth and we would love to sail with Lee again in the future.The man truly knows his stuff, maintained the boat impeccably and went to every effort to ensure that we had a great time. Many thanks to “Shippers” and Hamble Point Charters. We’ll be back.

The 32.96m/108'2" motor yacht 'Beata of Southampton' (ex. Akhir 108) was built by Cantieri di Pisa in Italy at their Pisa shipyard. Her interior is styled by design house Cantieri di Pisa and she was completed in 2009. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Carlo Galeazzi.

Range & Performance

Built with a GRP hull and GRP superstructure, with teak decks, she has impressive speed and great efficiency thanks to her planing hull. Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V2000 M93) 2,400hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 24 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 28 knots with a range of up to 600 nautical miles from her 16,500 litre fuel tanks at 12 knots. Her water tanks store around 3,000 Litres of fresh water.

Luxury and classic elegance perfectly describe the 24.3m (80ft) White Brothers built sailing yacht CORAL OF COWES. Launched in 1902, she was originally a gaff rigged yawl and was commissioned for Dr MacMahon of Cork, Ireland as ‘BAMBA III’. A sleek and eye catching sailing machine of her era, she successfully won prestigious races such as the Kings Cup in the 1920’s and the Queens cup in ‘30’s.

Crewed yacht CORAL OF COWES underwent an extensive rebuild in Cape Town in 2005 and a further refit in Grenada in 2012. The now schooner rigged traditional sailing yacht CORAL OF COWES offers deluxe charters for up to 6 guests, in 3 cabins. She is available for charter in the Mediterranean and Caribbean seasonally.

Charter yacht CORAL OF COWES has a retained many of her original features and boasts a warm inviting interior of fine woods, genuine leathers and traditional fittings. The salon offers a casual elegant atmosphere with seating and a formal dining area. Forward of the salon, a guest double is on the port side, while aft, 2 twin cabins offer 2 single berths each. Overhead hatches and ample ports provide plenty of natural light and cool sea breezes.

CORAL OF COWES Specifications

The classic sailing schooner CORAL OF COWES boasts majestic hull lines, her bow is proud and features an impressive bow sprit, while her stern sweeps under her gracefully. Deck space is ample offering an alfresco dining option and plenty of quality teak sunning and relaxing areas.

S/Y CORAL OF COWES has a wide beam of 4.5m (15ft) and a draft of 3m (10ft), she is powered by a Turbo diesel engine with a 305hp engine, when not under sail.

Yacht Charter Accommodation

Charter yacht CORAL OF COWES offers 3 cabins for up to 6 guests. A double cabin is on the port side forward of the salon, with a double bed and en-suite facilities. Aft, a master suite offers a full beam layout with 2 single beds on port and starboard and en-suite facilities. A further guest cabin has a single bed and Pullman berth, this cabin offers a sink and shared facilities.

The CORAL OF COWES sailing yacht has a Tender with 150hp engine, various towable toys, 11m sailing dinghy, TV/DVD/Stereo in salon, hammock, water maker, fishing gear, snorkel gear, deck shower, board games, generator.

We launched a brand new Princess F55 flybridge for the 2023 charter season.

The newest motor boat of its kind available for charter on the south coast featuring full Gyro stabilisation to make your time on board even more enjoyable. Massive internal and outside space, full climate control, beautiful natural materials and styling from a British boat builder with a worldwide reputation.

As well as high speed capability her ultra stable platform also allows us to offer environmentally friendly full displacement charters. Sip drinks as the Solent glides by and have a great day out without compromising your corporate environmental commitments.

Alongside our new Princess F55 we still have our original Princess P50 Mk3 flybridge available for charter. Operated by us since new she is much loved by charter guests and offers generous accommodation both inside and outdoors. For charters of more than 12 guests the 2 boats can be hired as a pair.

Each charter includes a commercially endorsed skipper with local knowledge and a hostess. As well as ensuring your safety the Skipper and crew are there to look after you and will share their local knowledge to make sure your time with us is truly memorable. We operate throughout the Solent / Isle of Wight area.

We are happy to advise on an itinerary or you can tell us where you want to go. There are no timetables to adhere to and no other guests to please so relax and enjoy yourself. For more than 10 years now we have operated corporate events, family gatherings, casual days out, special celebrations and even experience days prior to buying a boat.
