I chose Harbor Sailboats over all the other sailing clubs in San Diego when I moved here 25 years ago because they have the best selection of boats and the staff is the friendliest! It’s such a great club!
– Google User Tony L.
I have had a great experience joining this club. Everyone I’ve interacted from the owner to the front office to the ASA 101 instructor Tom has been warm, welcoming, and professional. Can’t recommend them highly enough! .

Home News Historic Detroit Yacht Club Gears Up to Host the Prestigious 2024 U.S. Adult Sailing Championship
Host Spotlight: Detroit Yacht Club – 2024 U.S. Adult Sailing Championship
As Detroit Yacht Club (DYC) gears up to host the 2024 U.S. Adult Sailing Championship, Event Chair, Roy Lamphier, shares insights into what makes this historic venue an exceptional choice for this distinguished event. Founded in 1868 by Detroit sailing enthusiasts, the DYC has been a steadfast advocate for the sport of sailing for over a century and a half.
DYC offers an extensive range of amenities, including a marina with over 300 boat wells, a harbor that accommodates vessels up to 100 feet in length, tennis courts, and a fitness center. The club also boasts an Olympic-size swimming pool, dining facilities, and a full calendar of social events, making it a hub for both sailing and social activities. It’s a vibrant community where members can enjoy the sport of sailing, as well as various recreational activities year-round.
The club is no stranger to hosting major sailing events, having previously hosted the Mallory Cup back in 2000. The decision to host the championship again comes from the club’s commitment to promoting sailboat racing and fostering competitive excellence. “With a rich history in the sport, the DYC has been a leader in advancing sailboat racing through its vibrant racing programs, top-tier facilities, and deep-rooted tradition of supporting sailors of all levels,” says Lamphier.
Hosting the U.S. Adult Sailing Championship is a chance for DYC to showcase its commitment to sailing and its unique sailing environment. Lamphier advises other clubs considering hosting similar events to “embrace the opportunity to showcase both your club’s commitment to competitive sailing and your unique sailing environment. Focus on the strengths of your venue, from your facilities to your local waters, and highlight how your club fosters a strong culture of racing and sportsmanship.”
For Lamphier, one of the most rewarding aspects of hosting such events is the energy and camaraderie it brings to the club. “There’s something special about watching talented sailors from all over come together, share their passion for the sport, and compete at a high level. It’s inspiring to see the blend of competition and sportsmanship, and it’s incredibly rewarding to be part of creating memorable experiences, both on the water and off.”
As Detroit Yacht Club prepares to welcome sailors to the 2024 U.S. Adult Sailing Championship, the club looks forward to a thrilling event that will not only challenge the competitors but also continue to foster a sense of community and sportsmanship in the sailing world. This is our 49th year of business, we look forward to keeping the great sport of sailing alive in Boston for current and future generations with an expanding fleet of diverse yachts, superior sailing instruction, and a commitment to customer service that has made the company successful all these years. Please contact us for more information or a tour of Club vessels.
The Boston Harbor Sailing Club was founded in 1974 with a few small, borrowed and owed boats at a time when Boston Harbor and the downtown wharves were a dark shadow of what they are today. New and refurbished buildings replaced old structures, new marinas replaced derelict pilings, and best of all, the clean water we all paid for is here to stay.
Today the Club has 70 boats 23-41 feet in length and two locations – Boston and Westport. Though primarily a membership club and sailing school, all Club services are open to the public. We rent sailboats to visitors and past members and moorings for transient and seasonal use.
The Club looks back with pride to the thousands we have introduced to the sport of sailing, many who have made it a lifetime endeavor, including several members and students who have sailed around the world, or made numerous ocean passages. The company takes pride in knowing we were here at the beginning, the first club in Boston Harbor to making sailing accessible to the public.
We’d love to hear from you – please use the form to send us your message or ideas.

Alerts in effect, seafarers yacht club.
In 1945, Lewis T. Green made history in Anacostia Park when he created the Seafarers Yacht Club. the oldest African American yacht club in the country. The Yacht Club is still thriving to this day and was an early advocate for stewarding the river. The Seafarers Yacht Club, organized in 1945 as the Seafarers Boat Club, and is the oldest African American yacht club in the United States. The clubhouse is located on the Anacostia River north of the John Philip Sousa Bridge (Pennsylvania Avenue, SE) and just south of the CSX Railroad bridge (across from the skating rink in Anacostia Park). The Seafarers Club was organized by Lewis T. Green, Sr., a wood carver and vocational arts teacher in the DC Public Schools. Green built boats as a hobby, and in his search for a place to dock one of his boats, he contacted the Department of the Interior about this site. Told that he should establish a boat club, he did so, but waited in vain for a response from the government. Eventually, with the help of Mary McLeod Bethune and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, he was able to rent the land for the club. The site originally was called Green's Boat Yard, and club members improved the marshy land and built docks and a clubhouse. The club soon developed a commitment to boating safety and community service. In 1965 the club merged with the D.C. Mariners Boat Club. In 1985 the group began the Seafarers Yacht Club Annual Cleanup, which has grown into the annual Anacostia River Cleanup Day held each spring with hundreds of volunteers. Ongoing efforts clean the river continue every year with the hopes of a swimmable Anacostia for all to enjoy. |

The global authority in superyachting
Marking 36 years since François Zuretti started designing yacht interiors, the first edition of La Regatta Zuretti kicked off in Nice at the weekend. Nick Jeffery reports back on the action.
Hosted by interior designer Zuretti, who won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Design & Innovation Awards 2023, La Regatta Zuretti was an event that brought together key figures from nautical design and beyond. The occasion also celebrated the more than three decades since Zuretti's interest in the yachting world was piqued, which he recalls as being the moment when he bought a copy of "The Superyachts - Volume One - 1988" in New York.
Seven boats raced in the friendly regatta, which was hosted in Nice the weekend before the Monaco Yacht Show, and saw renowned superyacht designers, naval architects, yacht managers and brokers participate.
Guests and participants were welcomed with cocktails, dinner and dancing at the historical Club Nautique de Nice on Saturday evening, with familiar industry faces from the likes of Arrow , Burgess , Carla Guilhem Design , Espen Øino , Feadship , Oceanco , Winch Design and Zuretti Design .
After the sailor's breakfast on Sunday – where confidence was oozing from Paul Archer of Arrow, Richard Lambert of Burgess, Pierre Perben of Espen Øino and Jim Dixon of Winch – the teams were shuttled to the skippered local boats ranging from a Dehler 39 to a First 47.7.
Sponsors – including high-end furniture makers Siebensee / Land & See – ventured out on a Grand Soleil Maxi 65, Blue , and an Elba 45 sailing catamaran as spectators.
Frisky conditions saw all boats putting a reef in their mainsails in the Baie des Anges as the waves built, the Race Committee laying perfect upwind downwind courses. Zuretti Design powered ahead at the first start, tacked onto port out to sea, and led the way to the finish line.
The only incident was the parting of a shackle on the genoa sheet on one of Espen Øino's boats, which Perben said was "quickly replaced and lost us just a few minutes". Such was the pace – and sea state – that a break for picnic lunches was put off, replaced by an extra fourth race.
On corrected time, with one race discarded, the overall podium positions went to Arrow on Dama Bruna in third place (with two third places and a fifth), second place to Talby 3 , one of Espen Øino's two boats (with a first and two seconds) and the winner was Espen Øino's smaller boat, Aria 3 (with three firsts, the discard being a second). Burgess, Feadship, Guilhem, Winch and Zuretti all managed third place in one race, while Oceanco pipped Zuretti in one race.
In a social post, Zuretti said of the event: "We did it and this incredible day on the water was made possible thanks to you! Thank you. Thank you for your competitive spirit, your kindness and all the emotions we shared together. More than just a competition, La Regatta was a breathtaking spectacle unfolding across the entire Baie des Anges."
He also congratulated all participants and gave special recognition to the Espen Øino team, before signing off, "We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! More things are coming."
The club's president presented recently published books about the fascinating history of Club Nautique de Nice to Zuretti's team, while Matthieu Zuretti awarded bronze, silver and gold glass paperweight trophies to the top crews. A Lasvit crystal trophy – designed to capture the waves frozen in motion within a sail shape – was awarded to Espen Øino's winning crew.
Zuretti Design's Sebastien Gey quipped that being the winners they must organise next year's regatta, as champagne flowed on the club's open-air terrace along with music from the live band.
From the feedback of participants and buzz afloat and ashore, it would seem that La Regatta Zuretti may well rack up as many editions as there are volumes of The Superyachts.

Vladivostok is a port city located in Russia (northeastern Asia), and on Golden Horn Bay (Sea of Japan). The city covers a total area of approx 331 km2 (128 mi2) and has population around 0,6 million.
The port city is the terminus of Russia's largest Pacific railway system (Trans-Siberian Railroad) and also the main naval base of Russia's Pacific fleet. The harbor is being kept open by icebreakers during winter months and serves as base for whaling and fishing vessels. Far Eastern State University is also here. The city is a major center of scientific research.
After the port city is named the 2015-built icebreaker Vladivostok .
The town was founded in 1860 as a military outpost and grew rapidly after 1903 when the Trans-Siberian railway was completed. During 1918-1922, Vladivostok was occupied by Japanese and Allied forces.
Port Vladivostok is ice-free the whole year-round. In 2002, the port had a foreign shipping trade turnover worth USD 275 million. In 2015, a special economic zone was established within the free port.
The city's main industries/employers are the Russian naval base, cargo shipping, commercial fishing. Fishing accounts for about 4/5 of the commercial production. A major source of revenue is the Japanese cars import.
In 2012, the city hosted the 24th Summit of APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) forum on Russky Island. In preparation for the event, the city's infrastructure was improved and two giant cable-stayed bridges were built - Zolotoy Rog Bridge (over Golden Horn Bay, city center) and Russky Bridge (connecting with Russky Island).
The 4-lane Russky Bridge (across Eastern Bosphorus strait) is the world's longest cable-stayed bridge ever constructed -(length 3,1 km / 10,200 ft). Its longest span is 1,1 km (3622 ft). The bridge's clearance above is 70 m (230 ft). The construction cost around USD 1,1 billion.
In August 2016, the Chinese ship Chinese Taishan (former Costa Voyager) made a maiden port call. Liner's operator (Bohai Cruises) soon announced the company's decision to include Vladivostok in its regularly scheduled roundtrip itineraries.
On July 31, 2017, the Peace Boat-chartered cruise ship Ocean Dream made a maiden port call in Vladivostok, with around 1200 tourists from Japan and South Korea. The voyage departed Port Kobe (Japan) on July 27th and visited Yeosu (Korea) , Vladivostok, Hakodate (Japan) , Sakaiminato-Matsue (Japan) and Busan (Korea) .
In 2017, cruise ships managed by Costa Asia ( Carnival Corporation 's subsidiary) visited Port Vladivostok 6 times. The first vessel ( Costa Victoria - max capacity 2314 passengers) docked here in May 2016. In 2017, the cruise port handled 13 ship calls. In 2016, their number was 6.
In 2018, the area near the cruise berth was dredged to allow docking of bigger vessels. On February 26 was opened port's season 2018 with Amadea ( Phoenix Reisen ) carrying over 500 passengers. Among 2018's highlights were the maiden calls by the large liners MSC Splendida (3900 pax), Costa Serena (3600 pax) and Costa Fortuna (3250 pax). On May 12, 2018, Costa Serena became the ever-largest cruise ship docking in Vladivostok. The liner carried over 3000 passengers and crew. It arrived from South Korea (roundtrip Busan itinerary) being chartered by Lotte Tours. Tourists were greeted with a live performance by Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University students (drummers, singers, dancers). The seaport and Vladivostok tour operators arranged a total of 79 buses each with a Korean-speaking tour guide.
In 2019 (March through October) were booked for berthing a total of 16 ships, among which the RCI-Royal Caribbean 's Quantum and Spectrum . Other large-sized liners were Costa Serena (5 times), Costa neoRomantica (3 times), Diamond Princess , Holland America 's Maasdam and Westerdam , Ocean Dream .
Season 2019 started on March 20 with MS Albatros (Phoenix Reisen), with estimated nearly 30,000 cruise passengers (plus ~70,000 ferry passengers) to be handled at Vladivostok Sea Terminal. In 2019, Vladivostok also restarted its homeport operations with locals and tourists able to book cruises leaving from Vladivostok (mainly to ports in Korea and Japan) and fly-cruise deals (via air/sea programs). There are plans for establishing a local (Russian) cruise line to operate itineraries to other Russian Far East destinations.
On Sept 9, 2019, Spectrum OTS became the ever-largest passenger ship to visit a Russian Federation port. The vessel docked in Vladivostok and was boarded by 200+ Russian VIP guests. Next is listed the 8-day "Russia and Japan Cruise" itinerary roundtrip from China.

Via Vladivostok, the Russian cargo shipping company FESCO serves three express routes connecting Russia with South Korea, China and Japan - Busan to Moscow (15-days transit launched June 2018), Shanghai to Moscow (20-days transit launched January 2017) and Toyama to Moscow (15-days transit launched April 2018). The new services allow delivery time reduction achieved by implementing new pass-through technology (port-railway). Busan to Vladivostok transit time is 2 days.
In January 2021, FESCO for the first time exported containerized grain delivered from Khabarovsk. The TEU-containers were shipped to China's Qingdao and Chiwan ports. FESCO's Russia-China service is 2-week (transit time 14 days). FESCO started bulk shipping of gran (from Krasnoyarsk) to China in 2018 with the new Siberia-to-Far East (Kamchatka and Magadan) service via FESCO-owned trains.
In December 2021, FESCO acquired JSC Port Gaydamak (FEMSTA containership terminal) which was planned for modernization and expansion in 2024. The facility is used mainly for transshipment (400,000+ tons of grain annually) and general cargoes. Also in December was inaugurated the "FESCO West Gate Bridge" (2-4-times a month intermodal containership service on the route Vladivostok- Kaliningrad/Baltiysk ) linking the Asia-Pacific countries with Europe. With an estimated transit time of 36 days, the Vladivostok-Kaliningrad service is nearly 1,5 times faster than the Suez Canal alternative.
Cruise ships dock at Vladivostok Sea Terminal where their passengers are welcomed with a ceremony that includes live performances of traditional Russian dances, folklore songs and drummers. The event is organized by the company Vladivostok Sea Terminal, LLC.
To all passengers are given free city maps and tour guides, provided by Primorsky Region's Tourist Information Center. Traditionally, an outdoor market with Russian souvenirs is also organized for the disembarking tourists.
