The 45m (150ft) superyacht AQUARIUS has wowed audiences in her debut appearance on the thrilling murder mystery Netflix film, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery , which has already proven a huge hit after ranking number one on Netflix’s ‘top 10 Films in the UK today’.

A long-awaited sequel to the original Knives Out film that arrived in 2019, Glass Onion features more opulence and drama as Daniel Craig returns as Detective Benoit Blanc to solve a very layered murder mystery.

While the first Knives Out film was set in a very Cluedo-Esque manor house in Massachusetts, USA , the second movie heads to a house called the ‘Glass Onion’ on a private estate on a fictional Greek island called 'Pisceshite Island.'

A number of scenes take place on board yacht AQUARIUS, the first being when the luxury motor yacht transports a group of friends to the lavish private estate of a tech billionaire, but when someone turns up dead, it appears that everyone on the island is hiding their own dark secrets, making each of them a threatening suspect.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery ’s Superyacht Star

One of the biggest blockbuster debuts of 2020, Knives Out is now being followed up by its whodunit sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery . Leading luxury superyacht charter company, Ocean Independence , makes an appearance in the film with one of its most extraordinary vessels .

The murder mystery flick tells the tale of a tech billionaire’s private island retreat with friends. After one of his guests ends up dead, Detective Benoit Blanc investigates the crime.

The star-studded cast includes Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, with Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista.

However, one of the undeniably biggest stars of the film is not an actor or actress, but is the setting for one of the crime comedy’s key scenes. Part of the film is set on Captain Ali Göksoy’s 46 meter superyacht, Aquarius .

Aquarius can accommodate up to ten guests in five cabins. Boaters can also unwind on one of several balconies, in the Jacuzzi, or at the sprawling beach club.

The posh superyacht is currently offered for charter exclusively from Ocean Independence for EUR 220,000 (approximately $231,363.00) per week. She will become available in Turkey in mid-September.

Aquarius will make her Netflix debut on December 23 and be featured in numerous movie theaters.

Detective Benoit Blanc is coming back to solve a new mystery in Knives Out 2 , and the movie’s setting can help it beat the widely-acclaimed first movie. The mystery genre has seen a variety of stories with different styles – from serious stories to others with touches of horror and even a couple of comedies – which has granted it a lot of success and popularity, and one of the best mystery movies in recent years is Knives Out . Written and directed by Rian Johnson , Knives Out was released in 2019 and was a critical and commercial success, with critics and viewers praising its story, acting, and direction.

When Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer), a wealthy novelist and patriarch of a dysfunctional family passes away under mysterious circumstances, detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) arrives to solve the case, which requires getting to know each and every one of the members of the Thrombey family – and they are not the easiest people you’ll meet. Everyone is a suspect, but with the help of Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas), Harlan’s nurse and close friend, Blanc eventually solves the puzzle and reveals who was truly responsible for Harlan’s death. Knives Out told a full story and brought the arcs of its characters (all of them) to a satisfying end, but its success was such that a sequel was greenlit.

Simply titled Knives Out 2 , the movie has Rian Johnson back as director, producer (along with Ram Bergman), and writer, but it won’t be a direct sequel to Knives Out . Instead, Knives Out 2 is seen as a standalone movie with Benoit Blanc solving a new mystery, completely separate from the Thrombeys, and in a new setting, similar to Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot novel series. What Knives Out 2 is also doing differently is its release, as it will skip a theatrical release and instead will go straight to Netflix , and the streaming giant has shared the first (although very brief) look at the movie. In its 2022 movie preview trailer , there’s a shot of some of the new characters and Benoit Blanc boarding a boat, and that new setting is enough to help Knives Out 2 beat its predecessor.

Knives Out 2 was shot in Greece, and while plot details haven’t been revealed yet, the brief look in the aforementioned Netflix trailer shows Katherine Hahn, Jessica Henwick, Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr., Madelyn Cline, and Dave Bautista before revealing Daniel Craig as well. The six new characters are boarding a boat in Greece, hinting at a big part of the story taking place in the boat, meaning it will be a more contained mystery than the one at the Thrombey house in the first movie, giving it a more Agatha Christie-like vibe. Even if many parts of the story take place on land, taking Blanc to the other side of the world, to a completely different setting from the somewhat isolated Thrombey mansion , is already of big help to Knives Out 2 , as it makes it unique and sets it apart from the first movie, and helps it avoid repeating the same aspects of its predecessor, which is a common trap for sequels and detective stories.

There’s still a lot to learn about Knives Out 2 , and while the Netflix trailer gave a very brief look at it and it doesn’t reveal much about the plot, it gives enough hints to know that it’s on the right path to be different from the first movie and it has the potential to even beat it. Knives Out 2 doesn’t have an official release date yet, so it’s just a matter of waiting for Netflix to share more information.

If Knives Out was about the murderous ties of flesh and blood, Glass Onion makes a good case for being just as wary of one’s closest friends. When a tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) invites some of his nearest and dearest for a getaway on his private Greek island, it soon becomes clear that all is not perfect in paradise. And when someone turns up dead, well, who better than Blanc to peel back the layers of intrigue?

Friendship ties can run deeper than family ties, but that means they can end just as murderously or worse.

Johnson also offers some inspirations he looked to for making this Knives Out movie. Of course, Agatha Christie and Hercule Poirot play a role in inspiring this series. But Johnson also includes “tropical getaway murder mystery” films like 1982’s Evil Under the Sun , and in particular, 1973’s The Last of Sheila .

He explains how this Knives Out 2 movie comes together:

It’s structured around a group of friends, or frenemies, who all have a power dynamic with one of their successful friends. It begins with him sending an invitation for them to come and play this murder mystery game at this exotic locale. In The Last of Sheila , it’s on his yacht, and everything ends up going horribly wrong. That is essentially how Glass Onion begins.

But that’s why we need detective Benoit Blanc on the case. Johnson reveals that we’ll learn much more about Craig’s Blanc in Glass Onion , and he’ll really be a focus of the Knives Out movie.

The director notes that “you definitely get to know [Blanc] a little bit better” in Glass Onion. And further shares about Knives Out 2 :

In the first [ Knives Out ], because of the way it was structured, Marta, Ana de Armas’ character, was very much the protagonist. In a big way, Blanc was the threat. He was almost the antagonist in terms of just the story structure, because you were worried, even as they got closer, that he was going to catch her and he was going to have to turn her over at the end. So Blanc was always outside of the sphere of our protagonist and was a little bit more of an enigma in the first movie. Whereas, in this one, Blanc gets an invitation to come to this murder mystery on this island. We’re very much meeting these people and getting into this world through his eyes.

Very interesting. In the first Knives Out , we agree Blanc walked us through the story but didn’t really enmesh into it. We wonder what will go differently this time.

Why Is the Knives Out Sequel Titled Glass Onion ?

Additionally, Johnson addresses the title of the Knives Out film, Glass Onion, a reference to a song from The Beatles. We admit the name initially had us scratching our heads. And it turns out, Glass Onion is actually a more accidental title choice than anything. But Johnson’s process for naming the Knives Out sequel feels relatable.

Johnson offers about the Knives Out 2 title, “I’m always fishing for something fun that Blanc can grab onto as an overwrought metaphor that he can beat to death… This is all in plain sight from the very start. So, the idea of glass came to me, something that’s clear. I’ll be very honest. I literally got out my iPhone and searched my music library with the word ‘glass.’ There’s got to be some good glass songs. I was like, “Oh, is it a glass fortress? Is it a glass castle? Is it a glass man?” The first thing that came up, because I’m a huge Beatles fan, is “Glass Onion.”

Honestly, we love this.

Nearly three years after Knives Out was originally released in late 2019, we’re finally going to get a sequel: Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery . That means we’re due for more quippy dialogue, zany characters, and another thrilling mystery very soon, but not soon enough.

The complete plot of Glass Onion is not yet clear, but we know that Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc will once again put his detective skills to the test–this time on the picturesque Greek island of Spetses. If Glass Onion is anything like its predecessor, the audience is in for a real treat.

Here’s what we know about the film so far, from its star-studded cast to its potential release date.

When is Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery being released?

The sequel hits Netflix globally on Friday, Dec. 23, just in time for the holidays. It will also arrive in select theaters at a yet-undisclosed date.

Glass Onion focuses on what happens when a tech billionaire Miles Bron (Norton) invites his closest friends to a remote island in Greece. Of course, it isn't the relaxing getaway it sounds like; someone winds up dead, and it's up to Detective Blanc to solve the case. “If Knives Out was about the murderous ties of flesh and blood, Glass Onion makes a good case for being just as wary of one’s closest friends,” according to Tudum .

The mystery will allow viewers to get to know Craig's Blanc a little better. “We’re very much meeting these people and getting into this world through his eyes,” Johnson told Tudum. Like the OG Knives Out, Glass Onion was also inspired by the director's love for Agatha Christie, but it will feel entirely different thanks to its specific influences from “tropical murder mystery” films like 1982’s Evil Under the Sun and 1973’s The Last of Sheila .

The inspirations from the latter are pretty obvious. “First of all, it's structured around a group of friends, or frenemies, who all have a power dynamic with one of their successful friends,” Johnson explained. “It begins with him sending an invitation for them to come and play this murder mystery game at this exotic locale. In The Last of Sheila , it's on his yacht, and everything ends up going horribly wrong. That is essentially how Glass Onion begins.”

Is there a trailer?

In Netflix’s 2022 Movie Preview, a short clip from Glass Onion could be seen towards the end of the video. (Skip to timestamp 2:35.) It shows Blanc and some characters boarding a yacht in Greece. Speculation has led many to believe that Johnson will release the trailer at a film festival this fall, according to Variety . No promises, though.

Netflix further teased the film on Aug. 22, sharing first-look photos of the cast together, and Johnson behind the scenes with Janelle Monáe.

And finally, an official trailer arrived on Sept. 8.

Netflix also shared a new clip during Tudum 2022. “The mystery begins when a group of friends get invitations in the form of an intricate puzzle box, but what starts out as a game ends as something more nefarious,” Johnson says introducing the footage.

The teaser shows that said puzzle box in action. Recipients solve a variety of riddles to unveil an over-the-top invite to a long weekend on their friend Miles' private island. There, they'll solve more mysteries—including one about Miles' murder.

Another official trailer arrived on Nov. 7 too.

Where can I watch the original Knives Out ?

For those wishing to catch up on the first film before the sequel arrives, Knives Out (starring Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Christopher Plummer, and more) is currently available to rent on Prime Video.

Whatever the storyline and release date of Glass Onion may be, the A-list cast and the stunning filming location are going to make for a juicy whodunit. Who knows, it might even outdo the first, though the presence of Chris Evans (and his famous cable knit sweater) will be deeply missed.

The Knives Out Sequel Trades a Gothic Revival Mansion for a Billionaire’s Mediterranean Palace

Director Rian Johnson’s 2019 whodunit hit Knives Out took place inside a quintessentially Gothic Revival mansion. Filmed at multiple homes in Massachusetts and on soundstages, it evoked the creepy autumnal aesthetic of many classic murder mystery stories of the past, like Clue .

The film’s sequel, which hit theaters briefly around Thanksgiving and will be available to stream on Netflix as of December 23, has a vastly different look. Filmed at Villa 20 at Amanzoe, a luxurious resort in Porto Heli, Greece—part of famous Aman brand ’s high-end, high-design hotels—the film once again centers around eccentric detective Benoit Blanc (played by Daniel Craig ). This time, Blanc is invited to the home of billionaire Miles Bron ( Edward Norton ) as he hosts a murder mystery party for a group of A-list pals who call themselves “the disruptors.” Among the group are movie star Birdie Jay (Kate Hudson), politician Claire Debella (Kathryn Hahn), and other such wacky characters.

Early in the film, the group pulls up to Bron’s private island aboard a 151-foot yacht . (Named Aquarius in real life, the boat is available to charter for $228,000 a week if you’re so inclined—and, fun fact, ship captain Ali Göksoy has a cameo in the film.) As they touch sand, Bron’s over-the-top home is revealed: a futuristic glass atrium plopped atop a sprawling Grecian villa with a grand outdoor staircase. It is his ode to his favorite bar, the Glass Onion, where he began the tech company that made him rich. This motif is also highly symbolic of his vapid personality. “It ties into Miles’s kind of fetishistic interest in himself and the metaphorical fact that when you look into Miles, there's really nothing there,” production designer Rick Heinrichs tells AD .

Villa 20 “was kind of a modernist take on classic Greek architecture. It had a very lovely indoor-outdoor feel to it, very pavilion-like,” says production designer Rick Heinrichs. Here, director Rian Johnson talks to Janelle Monáe on set.

The exterior of the atrium was added in post-production using visual effects, and the team chose this particular vacation villa because it looked to Heinrichs like it could handle the addition of a big glass orb. “That wasn’t something that you could just do on any structure. It’s not that it felt like it was begging for a glass onion stuck on the top of it—but it sort of was, actually. I mean, it turns out that it felt very appropriate that all of these villas ascend to the top pavilion and on top of that was this lovely flower-like structure.” We wonder what the designers of the home— the late AD100 architect Edward Tuttle, who was instrumental in creating the design of Aman properties all over the world, and Marios Angelopoulos—would say to this.

“The point of the glass art was trying to do something that was really quintessentially beautiful, almost Brancusi-like in a certain way. That would also be something that the camera could lens through and distort characters,” says Heinrichs.

The interiors at the villa were used to film guest rooms, but the main living area of Miles’s house was built on a soundstage in Serbia. For this set, Heinrichs and the prop department had to create an array of fine art, including a replica of the Mona Lisa which came courtesy of scenic artist James Gemmill. This job was made all the more difficult when a fire engulfed their prop house in Belgrade, causing a scramble to replace the many resin-glass sculptures that had been made for the film. “We immediately had to switch over to real glasswork and redid a lot of the things,” Heinrichs says. “It’s a movie called the Glass Onion, so we knew we couldn't disappoint in making things look like glass.”

In an exclusive featurette (watch above), Glass Onion production designer Rick Heinrichs walks us through what went into creating the world of Miles Bron.

"We spent the first half of the shoot shooting at this gorgeous estate called Villa 20," director Rian Johnson explains. Designed by Ed Tuttle and Marios Angelopoulos, the modernist villa , which is located at the Amanzoe hotel in Porto Heli, Greece , has panoramic views of the surrounding hills, the Aegean Sea, and the Peloponnese. "It was embarrassingly luxurious, that place," Kathryn Hahn gushes. "A stunning location."

It was only missing one thing: A glass pavilion on top—the titular glass onion structure. Heinrichs explains he studied a real onion to design the architecture. The glass structure was constructed by his team in the UK, and then reassembled in Belgrave, where most of the interiors were shot.

Actress Jessica Henwick shared , "We spent a month together in Greece and then a month together in Serbia, the first month doing exteriors and the second one doing interiors. We all lived down the road from each other, and we're in every scene together. So it was very intense, but an incredible bonding experience with some super talented actors."

Inside that glass onion, the atrium was filled with an obscene amount of famous art. "We certainly did cram a lot of artwork into Miles's atrium," Heinrichs says. "We did it intentionally: We were definitely needing to underline the fact not only that is Miles somebody that has to pay somebody to gain their aesthetic, but there's also the power and the wealth aspect of that, that he's displaying."

It wasn't just Miles's home that had heightened attention to detail. Each villa that the characters stayed in had a theme—each had a color palette, that was paired with a mandala by artist Max Patté . "It was all part of this pseudo-mysticism that Miles was trying to make himself interesting," Heinrichs says.

Overall, the film captures the aesthetics of tech billionaires. "I'm just very pleased with the fact that we managed everything we did, and it was successful as it was." Heinrichs says. "It's just so thrilling to see it on the big screen."

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery had a limited run in theaters during Thanksgiving , and premieres on Netflix December 23, 2022.

Does Glass Onion Have a Release Date?

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery had its world premiere on September 10, 2022, at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film also screened on October 16, 2022, at the BFI London Film Festival. As to when the public will be able to see the sequel, the film will have a limited theatrical release from November 23 to November 29 in around 600 locations, including, in a first for Netflix, AMC Theatres. The film will then be released on Netflix worldwide on December 23, 2022. The Christmas weekend has previously been a heavy-hitter for Netflix with titles such as Don't Look Up , Bridgerton , The Witcher , and Bird Box topping the charts over the holidays, and Glass Onion will likely be no different.

What Is the Meaning Behind the Title Glass Onion?

Rian Johnson has announced that the sequel will be called Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery . The name takes inspiration from the 1968 Beatles song of the same name. Of course, the title also alludes to several locations in the film, but you'll just have to see the movie yourself to find out more.

Is Glass Onion a Direct Sequel to Knives Out?

Despite the fact that many Hollywood favorites were scene stealers in Knives Out (it was so great to see Ana de Armas , Chris Evans , Jamie Lee Curtis , Toni Collette , and more all together in the same feature film), Rian Johnson has confirmed that the sequel will have an entirely different narrative. In an interview with SiriusXM in February of last year, the director made an analogy to author Agatha Christie when explaining that not every murder mystery happens with the same scenario. He said that he would love to explore the genre with different characters, a new location, and another dynamic.

Who Is in the Glass Onion Cast ?

As mentioned before, most of the cast members in the first film will not return for Glass Onion . If they do make an appearance, it would be in a surprise cameo. Jamie Lee Curtis, who played the role of Linda Drysdale, even cleared the air about the Thrombey family returning to the screen with an Instagram post that alludes to them spending some time in therapy and far away from Benoit Blanc. Speaking of detective Benoit Blanc, the character is leading the cast of Glass Onion as he investigates another mystery. Netflix acquired the rights to the next franchise installment for over $450 million, and part of the deal was to keep Daniel Craig involved in the project.

Alongside the 007 alum, there will be new actors joining the cast for Glass Onion and many of them are just as stellar as the renowned ensemble in the previous film. Kate Hudson , popularly known for her role in Almost Famous , will be part of the sequel as Birdie Jay, a fashion designer. Other confirmed names are Leslie Odom Jr. as Lionel Toussaint, a scientist, Edward Norton as Miles Bron, a tech billionaire, Dave Bautista as Duke Cody, a YouTube celeb, Janelle Monae as Cassandra "Andi" Brand, a tech entrepreneur, Kathryn Hahn as Claire Debella, a governor from Connecticut running for Senate, Madelyn Cline as Whiskey, the girlfriend and assistant of Duke, and Jessica Henwick as Peg the assistant of Birdie. Ethan Hawke is also reportedly in the film in an undisclosed role after being spotted on set. Angela Lansbury and Stephen Sondheim will also make posthumous appearances in the highly anticipated sequel.

When and Where Did Glass Onion Film?

According to Rian Johnson's tweet, the Glass Onion production began on July 28 and was shot in Greece. Some of the pictures from the set that were released online were taken on the island of Spetches.

Filming in Greece wrapped in July 2021 and production officially ended in September of the same year.

Is There a Glass Onion Trailer?

Netflix released the first official trailer for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery on September 8, 2022. The minute-and-a-half preview gives us our first real good look at the overall feel of the film but noticeably is slim on any plot details. The trailer has clips of partying, motorcycle chases, Dave Bautista in a Speedo firing a pistol, and an unusual-looking sliding puzzle. We also got a clip from the movie on September 24. Another teaser trailer came out on October 10, and it adds to the previous promo clips. Teaser #2 reveals that the characters were invited to a murder mystery party, hosted by their friend Miles Bron. According to his quote in the trailer, he will be murdered and those at the party must crack the code surrounding his suspicious death. The other shots presented in the clip hint that solving this challenge will be an eventful and instigating ride, especially for detective Blanc. After all, he even utters "this is truly delightful" once Bron explains the game to everyone seated at the dining table. Following that, viewers can spot a lot of cocktail drinks, a racing motorcycle, and a little snide mark about having a Google alert for the term "movies". Although the twists and turns are yet to be revealed, the sneak peek videos demonstrate that no one can be trusted, and no one can be saved from trouble. Check it out below:

The full trailer for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery was released online on November 7, 2022, digging much deeper into the mystery of the film, but still remaining tight-lipped on whom the actual murder victim is, meaning that fans will have to wait until they watch the movie in theaters the week of Thanksgiving or from the comfort of their home over the Christmas holiday.

What Is the Plot of Glass Onion?

Even after the release of the first trailer, the plot for the sequel is still mostly unknown. What we do know is that Rian Johnson mentioned “multiple murders” on the same post he shared on Twitter during day 1 on set, so that might indicate that there will be a lot happening in Glass Onion .

Tech billionaire Miles Bron invites his friends for a getaway on his private Greek island. When someone turns up dead, Detective Benoit Blanc is put on the case.

Will There Be a Knives Out 3?

Normally, we don’t receive the good news prior to the release of the first sequel, but Netflix is full of surprises. The $450 million contract that they signed with Rian Johnson includes both Glass Onion and Knives Out 3 , for which Johnson will once again write the script and direct. Daniel Craig will also return for Knives Out 3 , although the second sequel is a separate production and is not being filmed back-to-back with Glass Onion . So we’ll have a bit of a wait for the third Knives Out movie. Johnson has also hinted that the franchise might even go beyond three , stating in an interview:

"As long as the two of us are still having fun, and as long as we can continue to make these truly new experiences each time, and find new ways to challenge ourselves. The second we feel like we’re repeating ourselves, or just turning a crank on a machine, we’ll stop. Because to me, the whole conception of this whole series is the same way Agatha Christie did it with her books – we’re doing something new and surprising every time."

How Are Early Reactions to Glass Onion ?

Considering how successful Knives Out was, a lot of people have been hoping to see if Glass Onion would match its predecessor. And now that we have some early reactions from critics who have seen the movie, it looks like those people are going to be more than happy. By all accounts, the movie is even better than the first one, with Collider's Ross Bonaime calling it “bigger, crazier,” and “even twistier”.

As many-a meme has suggested on Twitter since the first wave of cast additions were announced last year, the more pertinent question might be: who doesn’t star in Knives Out 2 ? If reports are to be believed, Johnson has managed to rustle together a truly all-star ensemble for Blanc’s second adventure.

Daniel Craig is a given, of course. According to Empire , one of the challenges of returning to the role was perfecting Blanc's notorious Southern drawl. “I’d forgotten the accent and I didn’t want to do a pastiche,” Craig said. “I wanted to make it as grounded and as anchored in reality as possible.” No stranger to a sequel, Craig also expanded on how his tenure at Bond helped him subvert expectations when all eyes are on you. “I’ve spent the past 15 years of my life trying to do that in a franchise, so I’m not afraid of it,” he explained. “If you’ve got the right people in the room and the right talent, then you can do it.”

We’ve also got Dave Bautista, the one-time WWE star now starring in titles like Blade Runner 2049 and, most recently, Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic Dune . He's playing YouTuber Duke Cody, who's come along with his girlfriend and assistant Whiskey (Madelyn Cline of Outer Banks ). Edward Norton leads the group as tech magnate Miles Byron, who's invited his old friends to his home in Greece for a murder mystery game. “The species that [Miles] is derived from will be instantly recognisable to a lot of people in our era of tech billionaires,” Rian Johnson told Empire , hinting that Norton's character won't be the most pleasant of hosts. He's joined by Leslie Odom Jr. as Toussaint, a scientist employed by Miles' company.

Hot off her acclaimed role as Agatha Harkness in the Marvel miniseries WandaVision , p erennial U.S. rib-tickler Kathryn Hahn comes in as Claire Debella, a Connecticut politician running for a Senate seat. (She won her role over Zoom, according to an interview with MTV .) On the subject of Hahn's character, Johnson teased that Claire “pisses everyone off, and is trying to thread the needle in many different ways, in terms of her public persona and what she’s willing to compromise in order to stay in office.” Everyone’s favourite yearner, Ethan Hawke , is here too, as is Kate Hudson. Janelle Monáe subs in as tech entrepreneur Cassandra ‘Andi’ Brand, marking her first film appearance since 2020’s Antebellum . Rounding off the cast is up-and-comer Jessica Henwick , most recently seen in The Matrix Resurrections.

Aside from politicians, mask refuseniks and conspiracy theorists, has the pandemic made villains of any group more than wealthy travellers? From Kim K's but we tested! private island bash amidst surging cases worldwide, to the private jets that, quite literally, soared while travel for normal folk was grounded, as the rich escaped to their boltholes in Tuscany and Provence.

This hatred was gleefully captured in Mike White's HBO series The White Lotus , in which a group of shallow and self-serving American holidaymakers unloaded their baggage – literal and emotional – onto the staff of the island, the tension ratcheting to unbearable levels in the process. Now it looks like the theme for Knives Out 2 – the sequel to the box office hit from director Rian Johnson – might also be eat the rich, with a clip shared yesterday featuring the next instalment of characters in the whodunnit. The very short GIF, shared by Johnson on Twitter, sees the cast boarding a luxury yacht together, a location which, as we know from the first season of Succession, guarantees a happy ending.

Weary travellers, hello, Mr Blanc has been expecting you. Let us attempt to work out just who they are.

Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson in feather-print jumpsuit and huge sunglasses is giving strong mean rich woman vibes. Nobody wears a sixty inch beach chapeau and ends up the hero of the story, those are just the rules. We are predicting a cocktail with a non-biodegradable umbrella in her future.

Edward Norton

No sign of Edward Norton about to set sail. Intriguing. Could this mean he is part of Mr Blanc's investigative team, or that he joins the story later on? One thing we will say is that it doesn't feel creatively taxing to imagine Norton ending up either villain or villain-adjacent in the story. He just does that look of pinched anger so well. That said, if Knives Out taught us anything, it's that villains easily become heroes, and vice versa.

Dave Bautista

Leading the pack at the front of the gangway, has big Dave Bautista pushed his way to the front of the pack, or is he the organiser of this mysterious sojourn? Perhaps he just needs the loo.

Kathryn Hahn

We're calling it now, Kathryn Hahn wearing a visor will be the face that launches a thousand memes. Years of perfecting the kindly BFF on rom-coms and fresh from playing the deliciously dastardly witch Agatha in WandaVision, Hahn always, as they say, understands the assignment.

Ethan Hawke

Also absent from the boarding scene is Ethan Hawke, a casting which feels at odds with the roster of indie films he's made in recent years. Does that mean he'll be playing someone truly absurd and letting loose? We do hope so.

Leslie Odom Jr

Right in the middle of the group, and wearing a considerably cooler get-up than his fellow passengers, Odom Jr already has his whodunnit credentials after appearing in Murder on the Orient Express, in which he played a doctor who claimed responsibility for murdering someone despite it being an accident. Cue: Oooooos.

Jessica Henwick

To Hahn's right, wearing a bucket hat and vaping like she's got something to hide, Jessica Henwick feels like a twenty-something who has been dragged along against their will, and as we saw in Knives Out, it's the young ones you've got to look out for.

Janelle Monáe

Also missing from the shot, we'd like to hope Janelle Monáe could serve as the story's moral compass, as Ana De Armas did in the original film. Johnson has said however that the characters are "so different", so don't expect anyone to be like-for-like. The director has also said this cast is "so much more colourful", so fingers crossed for someone extremely flamboyant for Monáe to play.

Madelyn Cline

A sequel to Rian Johnson’s 2019 movie ‘ Knives Out,’ ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ is another of his directorial that follows the renowned detective Benoit Blanc as he works on a new case. The mystery comedy movie sees him travel to a luxurious private residence on a Greek island where he meets a group of friends invited by their billionaire friend Miles Bron. The guests include individuals from different professions — Bron’s ex-business partner Andi Brand, scientist Lionel Toussaint, former model Birdie Jay and her assistant Peg, the current Governor of Connecticut Claire Debella, and influencer Duke Cody with his girlfriend Whiskey.

Each of them is hiding a secret as they have their own lies to weave and motives to kill. Soon, when someone is murdered on the property, Blanc must find out who the real culprit is. The murder mystery isn’t the only aspect that keeps the viewers scratching their heads. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery Filming Locations

‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ was filmed in Greece and Serbia, specifically in Spetses, Argolis, Mykonos, and Belgrade. As per reports, the principal photography for the Daniel Craig starrer commenced in late June 2021 and wrapped up in September of the same year.

Interestingly, the story is set in 2020 during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic as various characters are seen donning masks, holding Zoom meetings, and even Benoit complaining of not being able to find work. This adds a sense of realism to the narrative and makes it all the more authentic. Now, let’s follow the group of friends or suspects staying at the villa and get a detailed account of all the sites that appear in the film!

Spetses, Greece

The production team of ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ kicked off the shooting process in Spetses, one of the Saronic Islands situated in Greece’s Attica. The old harbor of Spetses or Dapia port is supposedly where everyone meets Benoit Blanc for the first time before they all board the yacht toward the island. As for the yacht scenes, the filming unit used Captain Ali Göksoy’s 46-meter superyacht, Aquarius.

Aquarius consists of 5 staterooms with room to accommodate 10 guests, an on-deck Jacuzzi, and numerous private balconies. Several pivotal scenes for the murder mystery movie were also recorded in and around the Poseidonon Grand Hotel in Dapia. Moreover, it is, possibly, on this Greek island where the scene between Benoit and Monáe, as they discuss their game plan before the weekend, was shot.

Argolis, Greece

A major portion of ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ was lensed in Argolis, one of the many regional units of Greece. To be specific, Villa 20 at the Amanzoe in Agios Panteleimonas, Kranidi doubled for Miles’ luxurious mansion where most of the action takes place. Apart from being the primary production location, the hotel also served as the base camp for the filming unit, as it housed the cast and their respective families for the most part of the shoot. The beach scenes were recorded at the villa’s beach club, which is at some distance from the villa itself.

In a conversation with CN Traveler in early December 2022, the production designer Rick Heinrichs was asked how he decided upon the Aman villa as the right filming site for the movie. He said, “…The initial response was to the aesthetic: It had this modernist kind of take on classical Greek architecture. And that felt right for Miles. He’s an inquisitive fellow, and he doesn’t necessarily have his own aesthetic but knows he can pay a lot of money for someone who does. And it just felt like a place of power and had this great stairway that ran up to the top (with the villas in a hierarchy on the way up).”

Heinrichs added, “So there are different views from each villa, and they lead up to the (Glass Onion) with the best view on top. It’s very epic, almost like the Colosseum, to approach the villa—which lends itself to the idea that people are about to kill each other. Such scale. And then it offered a concept for building the atrium behind that worked really well as well—the interiors for that were constructed on a stage in Serbia.” Moreover, the locales of Porto Heli or Porto Cheli, a summer town in the southeastern part of Argolis, also feature in the movie.

Mykonos, Greece

For shooting purposes, the production team of ‘Knives Out’ sequel also seemingly set up camp in Mykonos, a Greek island that is a part of the Cyclades. Known for its nightlife and being a gay-friendly destination, Mykonos attracts a lot of tourists every year. This makes tourism one of the major contributing sectors to the island’s economy.

Belgrade, Serbia

Additional portions, especially interior sequences, of ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ were taped in Belgrade, the capital and largest city in Serbia. Most of the interior scenes were recorded on a stage, possibly one the production team constructed especially for the movie. Although the villa in Argolis served almost perfectly for the movie, it has just a single thing missing, that is, a glass pavilion on top. So, the production team worked on the glass structure in the UK and reassembled it in Belgrade to incorporate it into the interior scenes. The interiors for the scenes set in New York and the Northeast were also built in Serbia itself.

For taping a few exterior scenes, the filming unit traveled to New York, the 27th largest state in terms of area in the United States. Situated in the Northeastern United States, New York State is home to several landmarks and tourist attractions, including the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Times Square, and Niagara Falls, to name a few.

Connecticut

Some exterior portions for ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ were also lensed on location in Connecticut, the southernmost state in the Northeastern United States’ New England region. Also known as The Constitution State, Connecticut’s economy is driven by a number of sectors, including insurance, finance, tourism, agriculture, and real estate.

I Can’t Wait to Be Absolutely Pummeled by Knives Out 2

My knives? Oh, they’re out. In March, Netflix revealed they’d be releasing not one but two sequels to the 2019 murder-mystery hit Knives Out . In addition to the return of Daniel Craig and his buck-wild accent , a handful of new cast members have been announced for the forthcoming movie: Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, and, most recently, Janelle Monáe and Kathryn Hahn . To which I say, gimme.

A release date for Knives Out 2 hasn’t been announced just yet, which I am taking personally. However, filming is slated to start June 28 in Greece. Consequently, I’ve decided I am slated to be in Greece at that time as well.

Director Rian Johnson hasn’t released any plot details about the sequel, which I’m temporarily calling 2 Knives 2 Out . But that will not stop me from wild story speculation, or giving Johnson some ideas he can have for the low, low price of giving me my murder movie sequel ASAP.

So, here you go Rian — do what you will with these Knives Out part deux ideas:

Video shows moments before superyacht went down in storm off Sicily

Newly released video captures a luxury superyacht being battered by a violent storm before it suddenly sank off Sicily with 22 people aboard Monday.

The grainy images obtained by NBC News and other outlets were recorded on closed-circuit television not far from where the Bayesian was anchored, about a half-mile from the port of Porticello, on Sicily’s northern coast .

The yacht's 250-foot mast, illuminated with lights and lashed by the storm, appears to bend to one side before it finally disappears and is replaced by darkness.

The speed with which a yacht built to handle the roughest seas capsized stunned maritime experts.

“I can’t remember the last time I read about a vessel going down quickly like that, you know, completely capsizing and going down that quickly, a vessel of that nature, a yacht of that size,” said Stephen Richter of SAR Marine Consulting.

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and five of the 22 other people who were aboard the 184-foot vessel remain unaccounted for and are believed to be trapped in the Bayesian’s hull, nearly 170 feet underwater.

Officials confirmed Monday that at least one person, the ship’s cook, had died.

Superyachts like the Bayesian, which had been available for charters at a rate of $215,000 a week, are designed to stay afloat even as they are taking on water to give the people aboard a chance to escape, Richter said.

“Boats of this size, they’re taking passengers on an excursion or a holiday,” Richter said. “They are not going to put them in situations where it may be dangerous or it may be uncomfortable, so this storm that popped up was obviously an anomaly. These vessels that carry passengers, they’re typically very well-maintained, very well-appointed.”

Built by Italian shipbuilder Perini Navi in 2008, the U.K.-registered Bayesian could carry 12 guests and a crew of up to 10, according to online specialist yacht sites. Its nearly 250-foot mast is the tallest aluminum sailing mast in the world, according to CharterWorld Luxury Yacht Charters.

On Tuesday, Italian rescue workers resumed the search for Lynch and the five other passengers still missing: Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter, Hannah; Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife; and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife.

“The fear is that the bodies got trapped inside the vessel,” Salvatore Cocina, the head of civil protection in Sicily, told Reuters .

The Bayesian is owned by a firm linked to Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, who was one of the 15 people rescued Monday after it capsized.

“It’s extremely rare for a boat of this size to sink,” Richter said.

What’s not rare is the kind of storm that sank it , said Simon Boxall, senior lecturer in oceanography at Britain’s University of Southampton.

“People assume the Mediterranean is this rather calm and passive place that never gets storms and always blue skies,” Boxall said. “In fact, you get some quite horrendous storms that are not uncommon at this time of year.”

The president of Italy’s meteorological society has said Monday’s violent storm may have involved a waterspout, essentially a tornado over water, or a downburst, which occurs more frequently but doesn’t involve the rotation of the air.

Luca Mercalli, president of the Italian Meteorology Society, also said recent temperatures may have been a factor.

“The sea surface temperature around Sicily was around 30 degrees Celsius [86 Fahrenheit], which is almost 3 degrees more than normal,” Mercalli told Reuters. “This creates an enormous source of energy that contributes to these storms.”

The Mediterranean sailing vacation was designed to be a celebration for Lynch, who two months ago was acquitted by a San Francisco jury of fraud charges stemming from the 2011 sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion.

Prosecutors alleged that Lynch, dubbed “Britain’s Bill Gates,” and Autonomy’s vice president for finance, Stephen Chamberlain, had padded the firm’s finances ahead of the sale. Lynch’s lawyers argued that HP was so eager to acquire Autonomy that it failed to adequately check the books .

Lynch had taken Morvill, who was one of his defense attorneys, on the luxury trip.

Chamberlain was not on the Bayesian.

In what appears to be a tragic coincidence, a car struck and killed Chamberlain on Saturday as he was jogging in a village about 68 miles north of London, local police said.

“Steve fought successfully to clear his good name at trial earlier this year, and his good name now lives on through his wonderful family,” Chamberlain’s lawyer, Gary Lincenberg, said in a statement .

Following the release of Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery , a third film for the murder mystery franchise is currently in the works.

The upcoming sequel was first announced in March 2021, when Netflix bought the rights to the Knives Out franchise in a reported $400 million deal that included a second and third film .

Filming for the movie wrapped in August 2024, and several details have already been teased by star Daniel Craig and Rian Johnson , the writer and director of the first two films. Fans also believe that the second film offers a major clue about the plot of the third film.

On May 24, Netflix revealed the third installment is officially titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery . Plus, the streamer announced when fans can expect its release.

From the returning cast to the potential release date, here's everything to know about Knives Out 3 .

Who is in the Knives Out 3 cast?

Craig is slated to reprise his role as detective Benoit Blanc in the upcoming film. Seeing as Johnson has described the film trilogy as an anthology, it's unlikely that any other cast members from Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will return.

In May 2024, several new cast members were announced, including Fleabag actor Andrew Scott, Challengers actor Josh O'Connor and Priscilla actress Cailee Spaeny.

Glenn Close is among those joining the cast of Wake Up Dead Man, and she called filming the movie " truly one of the best experiences of my life " when talking to PEOPLE in August 2024.

“I'm filming in London with Rian Johnson,” she said. “He's such a fine human being. He's kind, he's brilliant. He has a great laugh!”

She went on to praise Johnson for creating a "cast from heaven."

“This coming two weeks, we have scenes where all of us are in the same room, and I just can't wait to see what he does and what he does and what she does. It's so much fun," she said.

What will Knives Out 3 be about?

An official plot for Knives Out 3 hasn't been announced yet, though some fans believe the second film includes an Easter egg about the storyline for the upcoming movie.

In one of the early scenes from the film, when everyone is surprised to see Benoit Blanc at the dock, Claire Debella (Kathryn Hahn) asks, "Did you solve the murder of — oh — whatshername — the ballet dancer thing, that's you?" Fans believe this is a hint that the third film could actually be a prequel about one of Benoit Blanc's earlier cases.

In a clip shared by Netflix announcing the official title, a voiceover states that this will be Blanc’s “most dangerous case yet.”

Who is directing Knives Out 3 ?

Johnson, who directed both Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery , will return to direct the third film. He will also pen the script for the upcoming movie.

When will Knives Out 3 begin filming?

As casting announcements started rolling in in May 2024, Variety reported that production was expected to begin very "soon."

As Johnson revealed on X (formerly Twitter) , filming began on June 10 and wrapped on Aug. 17.

"Aaaand that’s a wrap on Wake Up Dead Man. Went so fast! Best crew, incredible cast, this was a really special shoot and I cannot wait to put it together," he wrote .

When will Knives Out 3 be released?

In an interview with Deadline published in November 2022, Johnson revealed that he is still in the early process of planning the third film, meaning that a release date is still far away.

"[It's] the idea of figuring out how it can be completely different from this one as well as the first one," he said, noting that he will likely start penning the script in early 2023.

"I've got a Moleskine notebook that I carry everywhere and I'm constantly jotting stuff down in it. The first 80 percent of the process, for me, is scribbling in notebooks and structuring it all out. I'm trying to get ahead," he continued. "Even when I'm doing all the publicity for this film, I'm trying to start building up a structure, an idea, so that after New Year, when it's time to actually get to work, I'm hopefully not just staring at that horrible blank page. But you always are, I guess."

On May 24, Netflix revealed that Knives Out 3 will begin streaming in 2025.

Will there be a Knives Out 4 ?

While Netflix hasn't greenlit a fourth film, Johnson is on board to make more movies if the script is right. "If each one of these can really be what Agatha Christie did, if it can be not just in a totally new location and a new cast, but also trying something exciting, I'll keep doing it as long as Daniel [Craig] and I are having a good time. I'll keep making these as long as they let me," he told Variety .

Craig echoed those same thoughts while speaking with Deadline , adding, "If people are interested, then we'll make them. But if there ever came a point where either Rian and I thought we were just churning them out, I think we would back away. I mean, I just don't think that's what either of us want to do in life. Unless people are getting genuine fun out of them, forget it."

Prosecutors have given a lengthy news conference this morning on their investigation into the sinking of the Bayesian.

Marine investigator James Wilkes has been speaking to Sky News after this morning's press conference.

"Naturally, there are more questions than there are substantive answers at the moment - that's the nature of investigative work.

"Something forced that yacht to roll beyond its nominal stability limits, such that it wasn't able to right itself with the ingress of a certain amount of seawater that was coming into the yacht.

"So the investigators are going to ask themselves one initial question - what must the conditions have been for this to happen?

"Then they are going to look at the contributing factors to the yacht, sinking, and, and the unfortunate loss of life."

Prosecutors said this morning that the future of the investigation is reliant on recovering the wreck.

Mr Wilkes said the yacht is a "major piece of physical evidence in and of itself."

"It's lying at 50 metres, which is a recoverable depth.

"If it was significantly deeper, then I'm not sure they'd be considering salvage at this stage or certainly, the salvage question would be a lot more complicated to answer.

"But if there was the ability to raise that yacht in one piece safely, then it gives the investigators physically more to look at."

Mr Wilkes said he was unsure if the yacht would have a "black box" - called a voyage data recorder in shipping.

"It would record things like GPS position, heading speed, engine telemetry, whether the radars were on, what they were recording, alarms, communications from the yacht itself, any audio on the bridge.

"But more often than not, these are on merchant ships. The yacht was a commercial yacht in the sense that it could be chartered out so it's quite possible it has a voyage data recorder on, but I'm not sure that it does. I don't know that as a matter of fact," he said.

For days we have been waiting to hear from those on the frontline of this rescue mission.

And today finally, we did. Speaking for an hour and a half to the surprise of local journalists who couldn't believe what they were hearing alongside the world's press.

First-hand accounts of the gruelling, distressing and meticulous work that led to the discovery of the bodies of those missing on board the Bayesian.

Mr Cartosio said he had felt the need to conduct a press conference given the international interest in the event.

Flanking the head public prosecutor were representatives from the fire and rescue service and the members of the coastguard.

Some 11 highly specialised divers spent a total of 4,470 minutes underwater searching the vessels across five days.

By the end, there was little visibility in the water but they persevered and by lunchtime on Friday they had recovered the final missing person.

The discoveries of the bodies of all those onboard was difficult for divers despite their years of experience.

The foyer of the courthouse in Termini Imerese - a town just outside the Sicilian capital and some 10 miles from the scene of the tragedy - was packed.

Some 100 journalists on white plastic chairs scribbling away as details about the mission and the subsequent investigation were revealed for the first time.

The world's media heard the scope of the investigation was broad and that the aim of it was to find who is responsible.

Charges relating to shipwreck and manslaughter are being considered but nothing is being ruled out.

The six bodies that were recovered in the five-day rescue operation were found in the cabins on the left-hand side of the ship, prosecutors reveal.

They were trying to hide there after the ship sunk and landed on its right-hand side (see 9.24am post).

Prosecutors have confirmed that the captain of the Bayesian will undergo more questioning.

The yacht's captain James Cutfield has already been questioned for more than two hours by Italian prosecutors.

Prosecutors added that Mr Cutfield had been "extremely cooperative".

They also indicated that British and American authorities are involved in the investigation.

"Well the inquiry is Italian... [but] yes, things are underway from the foreign judicial authorities."

The passengers who died were probably asleep, prosecutors said, and this is the reason they failed to escape.

Officials suggested that "they were asleep whereas the others weren't".

We heard earlier that it was "clear people were trying to hide in cabins on the left hand side" as the ship landed on its right-hand side after it sank (see 9.24am post).

The first five bodies were found in the first cabin on left hand side and the final body was found in the third cabin.

The prosecutors' press conference is ongoing.

Maritime director of western Sicily Rear Admiral Raffaele Macauda said that there is "no information so far that the yacht was wrongly placed" when it sank.

There was a "slight deviation of anchorage because of a piece of archaeology nearby", prosecutors added.

Questions on the weather at the time of the sinking have also been raised by journalists in the press conference.

The yacht had been hit by a downburst, according to Raffaele Cammarano, the prosecutor of this specific case.

He told the press conference "from the information we have, it is a downburst we are talking about".

Downbursts are powerful winds that descend from a thunderstorm and spread out quickly once they hit the ground.

He also added more details about the weather at the time of the sinking.

"Apart from extreme events which are being verified by the prosecutor, there was a great deal of visibility," the official said.

"And as you can see from the internet there was forecasts from midnight to 4am, winds of a strength of five from the north-west and the west and a storm alert.

"But there wasn't an alert of a tornado."

He added: "Given that the conditions were such, there wasn't anything to suggest there could be an extreme situation arising.

"There are vessels that can monitor, after all, these events and one would have thought that the captain had taken precautions."

Autopsies on the victims "have not been done yet", prosecutors said.

They also said that they do not know the "specific" timeline of the investigation and said it depends on the owners of the yacht and maritime authorities.

"After all, the wreck is 50 metres down," they said.

"Everything depends on the availability of the owners and the timeframe of the retrieval of the wreck and of course all that has to be submitted to the port authorities and in parallel of course there will be the inquiry results, and it's only really then that we will be able to authorise the operation.

"I can't say, like some experts who have already spoken on the subject [say] that it will be eight weeks.

"But the preliminary phase which we requested was to retrieve the wreck and after that we can proceed with the rest.

"There are specialised companies after all who can proceed with getting up the fuel tanks, for example, first, so that's a priority for us because it has environmental knock-on effects and then we'll work out a proper timeframe - a plan with a timeframe."

Prosecutors are now taking questions from reporters who are gathered.

One asked about the Bayesian crew's responsibilities considering all but one survived.

Prosecutors said they were "concentrating on this particular aspect".

They want to "discover how much they knew and to what extent all the people [passengers] were warned".

"Of course the question is understandable.

"We have tried to find out maximum information possible from the crew members or the survivors - all I would say is that the incident happened really, really suddenly.

"The inquiry will begin with the facts of the shipwreck - that is all I can say at the moment."

There is no legal obligation for the captain, crew and passengers to stay in Italy "but we expect them to cooperate fully in the investigation", prosecutors added.

Hotshot New York lawyer Chris Morvillo proved he was a “chip off the old block” when he beat the feds and won an acquittal for UK tech titan Mike Lynch in one of the biggest fraud trials in Silicon Valley history — carrying on his father’s legacy as one of the nation’s top white-collar criminal lawyers, a longtime family friend says.

Morvillo, 59, was on Lynch’s superyacht celebrating his legal victory in the $11 billion fraud case when the ship was hit by a surprise squall and sank off the coast of Sicily on Monday.

He and his wife, Neda, are missing and feared dead.

“I think it would be hard for any young lawyer to come into the business and make a reputation for yourself with the shadow of your dad’s influence,” veteran white-collar criminal attorney Ronald Riopelle, 65, told The Post.

He compared the father and son to baseball stars Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr.

“It doesn’t happen that often — the son is able to play in the same league as their dad.”

Chris’ father, Bob Morvillo, who died in 2011 at age 73, got his start in the legal world in the 1960s as a federal prosecutor focused on securities fraud and targeted corporate leaders.

His prosecutions helped spark a surge in demand for corporate defense lawyers — which the elder Morvillo filled himself and became a pioneer in the field of white-collar criminal defense.

He represented the likes of Martha Stewart and ex-AIG CEO Maurice R. Greenberg. Former Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance even worked at Morvillo’s firm — Morvillo Abramowitz Grand Iason & Anello PC.

When Chris Morvillo graduated from Fordham School of Law, he went into the family business and became a white-collar crime lawyer as well — serving as an assistant US attorney for the Southern District of New York before moving on to his dad’s firm and then joining London-based firm Clifford Chance.

Even as Chris Morvillo carved out his own reputation as a litigator, he staked out a very different reputation from his father.

“Bob was a famously great lawyer — but, man, he did not suffer fools easily,” Riopelle said. “Bob was very tough. Chris was full of fun.”

He added: “Chris was just a doll … He was a fun guy. He was nice guy … He was happy-go-lucky guy, good sense of humor. His dad had a bit of a temper and a hard edge. Chris didn’t have that.”

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch was identified as one of the bodies pulled from the wreckage. His teenage daughter, Hannah, was the final one to be recovered.
Lynch — known as “Britain’s Bill Gates” — had invited guests from Clifford Chance, a legal firm that represented him, and Invoke Capital, his own company, on the voyage, according to the Telegraph .

Chris Morvillo, however, proved his legal acumen once and for all in June when he helped secure Lynch — known as “the British Bill Gates” — a total acquittal on fraud charges alleging he’d cooked the books when he sold his company Autonomy to HP in 2011 for $11 billion.

HP later wrote down $8.8 billion from the acquisition and accused Lynch of inflating the value of Autonomy.

Lynch was charged by the US Justice Department, and faced up to 25 years in prison if convicted — but Chris managed to clear him of all federal charges in June after an explosive, three-month trial that was dubbed “one of Silicon Valley’s biggest-ever fraud cases.”

Colleagues of his father said he would have been glowing with pride to see his son secure a rare total victory. Less than 1% of federal charges result in acquittals.

“He would have said he’s a chip off the old block,” said Riopelle, who knew Bob Morvillo for more than 30 years.

Bob even tried cases with Chris over the years, along with his other sons, Scott and Greg.

“Their dad was very proud of their work and I know he’d be very proud of him now,” Riopelle said, adding that Chris was “at the peak of his career in a lot of ways.”

“He was a totally devoted father — he’d be totally heartbroken, as any father would be,” he said.

Morvillo’s firm Clifford Chance said it was “in shock and deeply saddened” by his loss in a statement to the Wall Street Journal .

“We are completely devastated by the news concerning Chris and Neda, and our hearts go out to all of those involved,” the statement said.

Since the Bayesian sank before dawn Monday, six bodies have been recovered from the wreckage lying under 160 feet of water.

Lynch’s body had been identified.

In addition to the Morvillos and Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, also missing are Morgan Stanley executive Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, Judy.

Ship cook Ricardo Thomas — one of 10 crew members onboard — was found dead shortly after the disaster.
