In addition to producing the luxury SonShip motor yachts West Bay is known for, West Bay Shipyards provides yacht repairs, yacht servicing and refitting, and any services needed to make a vessel ready for ocean passage. Ben Vermeulen initially built hundreds of work boats ranging from rugged, high-speed police patrol boats to commercial fishing boats and rapidly gained a reputation for fine craftsmanship and business ethics of hardwork and honesty. After attaining success with its strong and durable, high-quality commercial vessels, West Bay began expanding into the luxury recreational cruising market, utilizing the latest construction techniques and cutting-edge materials to build the first model, the West Bay 4500 Pilothouse in 1985, followed by 65ft and 72ft motor yachts.

West Bay launched the first West Bay 58 in 1991. Designed by Ben Vermeulen, naval architect Howard Appolonio, and yacht stylist Glade Johnson, the 58 quickly became West Bay’s most popular motor yacht. It featured sleek, attractive exterior lines with the rock-solid build, seaworthiness, and all the features expected of a great Northwest cruising boat—walk-around decks protected by hefty rails, cockpit/aft deck large enough for sportfishing or outdoor dining, spacious flybridge with panoramic 360-degree view, and spacious raised pilothouse with large windows. Constructed with state-of-the-art materials for weight-reduction and hull-strengthening, hull pockets to protect the props, and quiet underwater exhaust. The interior featured expertly crafted joinery of fine hardwoods, spacious saloon, raised galley, two large staterooms, plus a smaller stateroom, and two heads. From 1991 to 2002 timeframe, West Bay produced more than 60 of the 58 model, continually updating them with amenities and more.

As one of Canada’s largest boat builders, West Bay Marine has a 110ft tri-deck SonShip under construction designed by Greg Marshall, the award-winning Canadian naval architect based in British Columbia. The 2020 SonShip 110 features elegant softer lines with graceful curves; window corners are rounded with softer angles, a departure from West Bay’s characteristic straighter lines and angular windows. All West Bay yachts feature a sleek profile; never boxy or ungainly. The main deck of the SonShip 110 extends forward, nearly to the bow to accommodate an on-deck full beam master stateroom. The SonShip 110 features a spacious enclosed Sky Lounge with Sky Lounge deck area and a Sun Bridge with a 6-person hot tub.

Crew accommodations include a large crew galley. Luxury accommodations are for 10 with 4 ensuite guest staterooms. A truly beautiful motor yacht designed by Gregory C. Marshall, Naval Architect, Ltd. recipient of the 2021 Design Award for the Exterior Design of Nobiskrug’s 262ft superyacht, Artefact. MAHANA for sale

For good reason the 78 is an immensely popular model of the West Bay Sonship line of yachts. She shows exceedingly well in all areas. She is a large volume boat that retains appealing lines and superb performance and handling attributes. She also features spacious outdoor lounging areas perfect for relaxing or entertaining.  Motor yacht MAHANA has benefitted from excellent ownership history with continued upgrades. MAHANA’S interior is beautifully finished in American cherry wood with a satin varnish crafted by Canadian craftsmen. Much of the interior was replaced and redesigned in 2018 by Nationally Award Winning ISD designer Cary Vogel. All carpeting was replaced in 2019.  The main salon features a comfortable and open area with good viewing out the side windows and convenient access to the galley and aft deck.  To maximize size and comfort the owner’s stateroom is located amidship and forward of the engine room. This stateroom is unusually large for a boat of this size.  The flybridge is fully enclosed with a fiberglass hardtop and new Strataglass making it a comfortable place in a wide range of weather. The very large boat deck can be utilized as an entertainment area by easily removing the tender. MAHANA is in impeccable condition and has been continually upgraded by each of her three excellent owners. Her current owner and captain take the maintenance approach of preferring where possible, to “replace with new rather than repair the old.”  She is easy to operate as an “Owner Operator” or shorthanded. Her many custom features lend to the comfort and ease of use by anyone aboard. "La Pituca" is hull #69 of the highly regarded West-Bay SonShip 58' pilothouse motor yacht series. Outstanding features of this yacht and design include dependable Series 60, 4-stroke 12.7 Liter DDEC Detroit Diesel engines with low original hours, a walk-in engine room accessible from the cockpit with full standing headroom, spacious salon, walk around side-decks, Galley-up, interior and exterior stairs up to fly-bridge and, 3 staterooms and 2 heads. Additional features include 2 generators, stabilizers, hydraulic bow thruster, hydraulic windlass, hydraulic davit and, a watermaker. “La Pituca” is being offered for sale now by her only second owner who purchased the vessel in September 2003 and has owned the vessel for the past 16 years.

A FBG swim platform, integral with the hull is all the way aft and a door leads through the transom and forward into the cockpit. A large lazarette providing great storage as well as access to the steering, water-making and electrical system are beneath the cockpit’s sole. A wide hatch with gently sloping steps forward in the cockpit provides easy access to the spacious engine room. Dual doors open to the salon and provide an expansive view all the way forward from the cockpit to the pilothouse and interior helm. Walk around side-decks forward from the cockpit make the handling of dock lines and fenders easier. 

Entering the carpeted  salon , there is a custom made and most comfortable sofa along the port side with 2 occasional swiveling chairs across to starboard. The interior woodwork was hand-crafted from rift cut white oak and finished to a blond color. An entertainment center is built-in just forward of these chairs. 3 steps lead up to the  Galley/Pilothouse . To starboard is a wide, gently curving set of stairs leading up to the fly-bridge and upper helm station and a dinette is just forward of these stairs. The  Galley  is across to the port side. The lower helm station is positioned on centerline and all the way forward in the pilothouse. Side-doors to port and starboard lead out to the side-decks. Access to the 3 staterooms and 2 heads is gained forward from the pilothouse and down a stairway on starboard side. The  Master’s Stateroom  is amidships and features a queen-size bed, head with shower en-suite, 2 large hanging lockers, plenty of drawer storage and access to the clothing washer and 220V dryer. Forward of the master’s stateroom a  Guest’s stateroom  with over/under single bunk berths is to port, a shared guest’s head is across the companionway to starboard and the  VIP guest’s stateroom  is all the way forward. The VIP features a double/full size bed on the centerline one large hanging locker and plenty of drawer and locker storage space.
