M/Y Ecstasea is one the fastest superyachts in the world

ecstasea yacht engine

Built by Dutch yard Feadship , M/Y Ecstasea is one of the fastest superyachts in the world.

She is unconventional and remarkable. Her initial owner wanted a fast yacht. Very fast. And Feadship delivered. Ecstasea can reach a top speed of 30 knots, and cruises at 25 knots.

To reach this speeds she needed a high bow and an impressive power plant.

Power is provided by no less than four diesel engines MTU 16V4000 M70, each delivering 3,111 hp. Also, for extra power, the captain can rely on a gas turbine that can deliver more that 30.000 hp. Total power is 46,843 hp.

M/Y Ecstasea was built for the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich and sold to another owner in 2009 for an undisclosed sum.

The launch of the remarkable motoryacht Ecstasea represented a number of milestones in the evolution of the superyacht industry. This space has been optimized to incorporate an extensive selection of cutting edge facilities. Ecstasea's exterior is distinguished by a powerful and modern signature, with a high bow for cutting through the waves. The challenge of matching the hull form required for 30-plus knots with a sleek look appropriate for a yacht of this speed has been successfully met.

The helicopter hangar in the bow is completely hidden, without a hint of the horizontal sliding hatches either technically or in terms of style. With a seam in the centerline of the boat, the hatch slides open in two halves to port and starboard.

The 86m superyacht can accommodate 14 guests in seven double cabins. Interior design is by Terence Disdale while the exterior design is by De Voogt.

Motor Yacht

Unconventional, remarkable and a defining moment in custom yacht building, Ecstasea was launched in 2004 by Feadship and sports a distinctive De Voogt Naval Architecture design. The largest launch from The Netherlands at the time, her powerful exterior signature cuts through the waves with ease thanks to a hull built to push past an incredible speed of 30 knots.

For 86 metres, this yacht offers more than meets the eye thanks to both her capabilities on the water and comfort on board. Her Terence Disdale Design throughout the interior spaces creates a homely space with rich woods, welcoming tones and a sense of global citizenship to create a home anywhere in the world.

Refitted in 2009, this is a yacht withstanding the technological race and features a completely hidden helicopter hangar and space to accommodate a further helicopter on the aft. A wealth of cutting-edge tenders and toys are available to enjoy the water, and cinema, steamroom and gym for a more relaxing option.

Ecstasea can accommodate up to 14 guests in 7 cabins with 25 crew on hand to make life on board this Feadship yacht an idyllic break away, and thanks to high speeds and shallow draft, she provides those on board with a choice of any destination.

He started his career with no formal design training and now owns one of the most well-respected studios in the industry.

ECSTASEA is all white with a large helipad on the forward deck and even a small aircraft hangar.

She carries several tenders, including a 9.5 meter (31.1 ft) Vikal Limousine. The superyacht has a beautiful sundeck aft with a spacious seating area for guests.

The ECSTASEA yacht is known for carrying an impressive selection of water toys on board, including inflatables, jet skis, wakeboards, sea bobs, and even mountain bikes.

ECSTASEA originally cost an estimated US $125 million, although she reportedly only listed for a price of US $75 million when the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi sold her to the owner in 2014. She generates an estimated US $10 to 15 million in running costs every ear.

About Ecstasea

Smashing a Feadship length record that had been held by Al Riyadh since 1978, the 86-metre speedboat Ecstasea rewrote history with her awesome propulsion package and fully concealed helicopter hangar in the bow. New owners decided in 2017 to commission a wide range of design changes throughout the interior to suit their style and way of living onboard. Returning this remarkable superyacht home to Feadship was the obvious option for such a project in order to retain the highest standards of excellence.

The refit included many interior upgrades to both the owner and guest areas, with the crew accommodations and facilities also being refreshed. A new owners’ gym was installed in the heli-hangar and new seating placed on the sun deck aft complete with a fire pit and an outdoor cinema. Various new exterior design features were also added along with a broad selection of bespoke technical maintenance activities such as an overhaul of the main engines.

VIDEO - Feadship Superyacht SAVANNAH Sea Trials

By Editorial Team   7 April 2015

Official video of the 83.50-metre (273’11”)  Feadship superyacht SAVANNAH looking majestic as she enjoys her sea trials off the Dutch coast.

When delivered to her lucky owner later this summer she will be the second largest Feadship for charter after the 86m (282 ft) motor yacht Ecstasea , which caused a stir in the industry when she was launched over a decade ago due to her revolutionary helicopter hanger, with hydraulic lift, built into her bow and another helipad on her aft deck. However, the  most amazing feature of this yacht is that on top of all this, she can also achieve speeds well in excess of 30 knots - a truly astounding performance for a yacht of this size and luxury. This was achieved with her revolutionary combination of diesel engines and gas turbines.

Feadship's motor yacht Savannah is yet again another marvel of engineering being the world's first hybrid superyacht to feature an eco-friendly blend of a single diesel engine, three gensets, batteries, propeller, azimuting thruster and a streamlined hull.

Toyota shoots itself in the block: hamlin’s nascar cup bid hobbled by engine fiasco.

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA - JULY 19: Denny Hamlin, driver of the #11 Sport Clips Haircuts Toyota, looks ... [+] on in the garage area during practice for the NASCAR Cup Series Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 19, 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana. (Photo by Sean Gardner/Getty Images)

In what could be described as a catastrophic brain fade of biblical proportions, Toyota may have just sunk their own driver’s chances for a NASCAR championship this season.

In perhaps the biggest “oops” moment in the history of “oops” moments, at least in NASCAR history, Toyota has taken responsibility for a rule violation revealed by the sport’s officials Thursday. And it big one it is for Denny Hamlin and the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing team.

The violations come under two sections in the rule book that says “will be long block sealed by NASCAR and must be completely inspected by NASCAR before the engine may be disassembled by the team. If the team chooses to use the long block sealed race winning engine again before being inspected, the engine must be used in the same vehicle number the next time it is used.”

Another rule states that “seals must not be removed without prior approval by NASCAR,” and “if a race winning engine is sealed and presented for post-race inspection at a later date with damaged, altered or missing seals, an L2 Penalty will be assessed.”

Think of it as NASCAR's version of a "you done messed up."

And messed up Toyota did.

NASCAR issued a statement with the announcement of the penalty that might make it easier to understand: “Each race-winning engine must be inspected by NASCAR once the race team determines that its life cycle is complete,” the statement read. “In this instance, prior to presenting the engine to NASCAR for inspection, Toyota Racing Development disassembled and rebuilt the No. 11’s Bristol-winning race engine. Per the NASCAR Rule Book, this violation results in an L2 penalty to the race team and driver. Toyota Racing Development self-reported this violation.”

Denny Hamlin and Toyota Racing Development USA President and General Manager David Wilson in happier ... [+] times. (Photo by Jared C. Tilton/Getty Images)

In short, Toyota tore apart an engine it shouldn’t have. David Wilson, the president of TRD USA, issued a statement that could only be described as the PR version of a groveling apology:

“As the engine builder for our partner NASCAR Cup Series teams, TRD (Toyota Racing Development) is solely responsible for the handling and disposition of all our engines pre- and post-race,” Wilson said in a statement. “Despite procedures being in place, Denny’s race-winning engine from Bristol was mistakenly returned to our Costa Mesa facility, disassembled and rebuilt instead of being torn down and inspected by NASCAR per the rule book. Although we know with absolute certainty that the engine was legal and would have passed inspection, we left NASCAR in an impossible position because they were not given the opportunity to properly inspect our engine. We have reviewed our processes and have implemented several additional steps to ensure that this never happens again. TRD takes full responsibility for this grievous mistake, and we apologize to Denny, Chris, Coach Gibbs, the entire JGR organization, NASCAR and our fans.”

In the end Hamlin and team owner Joe Gibbs were each docked 75 points and 10 playoff points, while crew chief Chris Gabehart was fined $100,000.

In a sport where every point can determine your fate, this is a disaster.

Hamlin was in a three-way fight for the Regular Season title; a battle that for him has now ended as he is dropped from third in the standings to sixth. But wait, there’s more. The win at Bristol in March, the one that the engine was used at, no longer counts for Playoff eligibility. Yes, Hamlin is still locked into the Playoffs by virtue of his two other wins, but instead of starting the Playoffs seeded in second, he will now find himself slumming it in sixth place.

And yes, the team could appeal. But let’s face it: a win in NASCAR’s own court for the team is about as likely as the second coming of Jesus happening before the Holidays.

Sure, Hamlin could still go on to win his first championship, but instead of starting in a comfortable spot near the front of the line, he will be in a far more uncomfortable position sweating it out and no doubt cursing under his breath at Toyota.
