KAOS yacht (formerly JUBILEE and AL MENWAR) is an award-winning superyacht that was recently refitted with a completely redesigned interior.

At 110 metres (361ft) and 4,523 tons, she was the largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands at the time of her launch in 2017.

Kaos yacht interior

The interior of the motor yacht was originally designed by Sam Sorgiovanni who is originally from Australia and aims to unite practicality with beauty through his unique designs.

The vessel was made completely wheelchair accessible including elevators and barrier-free access to all decks.

The process took a year and with the help of the British designer Reymond Langton, the interior was transformed.

KAOS has room for 31 guests in 16 cabins. This includes a lavish owner’s suite which consists of two separate bedrooms.

There are also four VIP suites and ten standard suites with ensuite bathrooms. All guest cabins are located on the upper deck.

45 staff distributed across 24 cabins find space on the lower levels of the vessel. Only the cabins for the captain and first officer are located on the bridge deck.

The KAOS yacht was designed with maximum comfort in mind. Her interior includes lavish facilities such as a spacious elevator, a steam room, a full gym, as well as an indoor beach club.

Originally she was constructed with Middle Eastern design in mind which includes features such as a large majelis, which is a dedicated seating and entertainment area meant for hosting guests.

The KAOS yacht also has a large cinema, a sauna, and full spa facilities. Below the deck, there is a separate crew gym and a small hospital in case of medical emergencies.

The interior design can be described as lavish and luxurious. White and blue carpeted floors with intricate designs compliment the exterior of the vessel and its signature aqua color.

Golden accents and cream upholstery go well with the wooden elements such as the teak flooring.

Opulent furnishing with many indirect lighting accents creates a feeling of coziness and luxury.

Specifications

At the time of her launch in 2017, the KAOS yacht was the largest yacht ever built by the custom yacht builder Oceano as well as the largest yacht built in the Netherlands.

At a length of 110 meters (361ft), a beam of 16.4 meters (53 ft), and a maximum draft of 4.4 meters (14.5 ft), she is currently ranked as the 39th largest motor yacht in the world, together with motor yachts ANNA, RADIANT and AL RAYA who measure the same length.

She displaces 4,523 tons and is known for her unusual design, which is very sleek and minimalist.

KAOS can reach speeds of up to 19 knots with an average speed of 15 knots which is not the fastest in her weight category but still impressive for her large size.

As expected from Oceano, she was constructed primarily from aluminum and steel and has a fuel capacity of 391,000 liters as well as a 230,000-litre freshwater tank. She is powered by impressive MTU engines fuelling two propellers.

The KAOS yacht can host 31 guests in 16 cabins as well as 45 crew in 24 cabins. Her maximum range is estimated to be somewhere around 5,000 nautical miles.

The KAOS yacht is an exceptionally beautiful yacht that was built prioritizing modern and minimalist design.

Lobanov Design is responsible for her eye-catching exterior, which focuses on futuristic elements combined with optical illusions.

Established in 2007, this design studio is known to be young, offering unique perspectives and modern approaches.

She was built with curved lines in mind incorporating elements of glass and metal in a nautical context.

Her all-around glass fronts create an optical illusion letting the yacht appear to have several more decks than she actually has.

The so-called trompe l’oeil effect lets KAOS appear sleek and elongated, setting her apart from traditional yacht design. Her designer Lobanov describes the modeling process for KAOS.

“The 3D modeling was quite a challenging task, which pleased my mathematical part of the brain. Each of the layers meets and splits under certain rules, which can be noticed from different angles.”

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is 99681110-1024x683.jpg

Her exterior is white with light blue accents, which are contrasted by the many darkly tinted windows.

She has four decks, the largest of which is the aft which has a sizable swimming pool with a built-in aquarium and seating areas.

Several smaller decks are located on higher levels, although most of them are hidden in shaded areas.

Close to the top of the superstructure, a small jacuzzi is situated, allowing guests to enjoy incredible views while relaxing.

At the bow, a helipad is located, including refueling facilities for small to medium-sized helicopter aircraft. Below the helipad, the mooring deck is cleverly concealed for aesthetic purposes.

At the stern of the vessel, the KAOS yacht has an extendable swimming platform that can be closed completely when the yacht is underway.

This platform leads directly to a lounge area inside the yacht, complete with a state-of-the-art entertainment system, TV, and storage space.

On the starboard side of the aft, there is a separate platform for docking tenders and releasing water toys.

KAOS also possesses a modern underwater lighting system and state-of-the-art stabilizers for the comfort of guests when the vessel is underway or at anchor.

Toys and equipment

The KAOS yacht carries at least two tenders, one of which almost looks like a miniature version of the main vessel with the same blue and white design and tinted windows.

They were built by Pascoe International , a renowned company specializing in tenders for superyachts.

She carries a wide array of water toys, including several jet skis, water bobs, and paddleboards.

Previous names

Originally the KAOS yacht was built in the Netherlands by Oceano under the name SECRET III. Upon her launch, she was officially named JUBILEE and then renamed AL MENWAR by the royal family of Qatar, the House of Thani.

Fact file: six things you didn't know about Oceanco's "optical illusion" superyacht Kaos

Delivered in 2017 by Oceanco , the 110-metre Kaos (ex. Jubilee ) once stood as the largest superyacht ever built in the Netherlands. She was the brainchild of Barcelona-based designer Igor Lobanov , who claimed he "was allowed to do anything [h]e wanted" and then proceeded to prove it; creating the illusion of a much smaller superyacht by adding the impression of "fake decks". Her delivery followed, as did a swift change of ownership and a year-long refit in 2019 at Lürssen , with Australian Sam Sorgiovanni (the original interior designer) and Reymond Langton at the helm.

BOAT International rounds up some of the coolest facts about this iconic metallic blue superyacht, starting with her distinctive "floating island" design...

1. She plays tricks on the eye

At an impressive 110 metres, Kaos ' "Speed Blue" profile is long and lean with the illusion of extra decks thanks to her clever and unique troupe l'oil effect design – a cunning play of perception to hide her actual height. The deliberate absence of traditional panelling accentuates the yacht's surfaces, resulting in smoother lines. Bringing together the illusion is the ship-like funnel serving as the focal point, harmonising all four decks seamlessly into the hull. The result of these visual tricks is a bird's eye view that resembles a topographic map of an island.

2. She was inspired by Middle Eastern culture

Initially commissioned by a member of the Qatar royal family, Kaos ' design philosophy pays homage to the region’s Arabic heritage. The yacht originally included a majlis , for example – known as  "a place of sitting", the meticulously-designed room served as Kaos ' centrepiece and highlighted the importance of hospitality and communal gatherings.

3. She is adorned with precious materials

While details of the yacht's interior have been kept largely under wraps, at the time of her delivery it was said that Kaos had the most marble and stone outfitted within the interior than any other superyacht. In a nod to her origins, Iranian white onyx previously dominated the owner's cabin. Additional precious materials include intricate crystal caviar insets and bespoke silk carpets.

4. She cruises quietly (and far)

Beyond aesthetics, Kaos is also a superyacht that cruises in comfort. There is minimal noise and vibrations across her five decks, enabling a surprisingly quiet ride thanks to the rubber foundations that her floors float  upon. She can take guests on voyages up to 5,000 nautical miles at her cruising speed.

5. Her pool deck doubles up as an aquarium

The largest of Kaos ' four decks aft houses a sizeable swimming pool . This standout feature is 8.5 metres long and bordered by plenty of additional seating. In the superyacht beach club below, there is an aquarium that looks into the pool above.

6. Over 70 people can live onboard this wheelchair friendly yacht

Built to Passenger Yacht Code, Kaos could originally accommodate an impressive 31 guests across 15 cabins with further space for around 39 crew onboard. She also has an entirely private owner's deck with two separate bedrooms and restricted access by other guests, complete with panoramic ocean views. The superyacht is fully wheelchair accessible throughout, including an elevator and barrier-free access.

Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie’s super yacht, KAOS, is on its way up the Thames to dock in London.

The 361-foot craft was spotted off Sheerness earlier today. The stunning yacht originally built by superyacht specialists Oceanco for the late Emir of Qatar, who named it Jubilee.

Following the Emir’s death, the yacht Jubilee was put up for sale, with an asking price of €275million or around £240m.

Current owner Laurie is one of the world’s richest people. The younger daughter of Bud Walton, the brother and business partner of Walmart founder Sam Walton, she and her sister inherited a stake in the company worth some $9billion (£7.28bn).

Laurie's superyacht is the 56th-biggest in the world

And the heiress has spent some of her fortune on a spectacular yacht. The value of KAOS has been estimated at around $300m (£242m), with annual running costs in the region of $30m (£24m).

KAOS boasts a spectacularly sleek exterior designed by Igor Lobanov and luxurious interiors created by Sam Sorgiovanni.

There’s space for around 30 guests in the yacht’s 15 spacious cabins, and there’s also accommodation for a crew of 45.

Inside Walmart heiress's £240m superyacht complete with helipad as it's spotted cruising Thames

This extraordinary superyacht features a Jacuzzi and a swimming pool, and if it’s too chilly to be out on deck swimming there’s a cinema, spa and aquarium below decks.

As well as the essential helicopter pad, KAOS also has a majelis area. The majelis, an Arabic term meaning "sitting room,” harks back to the yacht’s original owner and is a unique feature on a yacht of this size.

Nancy Walton Laurie is one of the world's wealthiest women

KAOS is currently the 56th largest private yacht in the world.

At 110 metres (361ft) and 4,523 tons, she was the biggest yacht to have been built in the Netherlands at the time of her launch in 2017.

The steel and aluminium craft is powered by 2 MTU engines with a combined power of 9656hp, which gives her a top speed of 15 knots. The yacht carries 391,000 litres of fuel on board, giving her a range of around 5,000 nautical miles.

The yacht was spotted off Sheerness this week

KAOS carries the most marble and stone ever installed on a yacht, and is – according to specialist Yacht News site Luxury Launches, is "as silent as a stealth warship".

Laurie's old superyacht, Secret, was a meagre 271ft long, and only had room for 14 guests and 16 crew.

Built by German shipwrights Abeking & Rasmussen, it also boasted exterior finishing by Sam Sorgiovanni.

Walmart Heiress Nancy Walton Laurie’s $330m Kaos Superyacht Vandalised In Ibiza

It's a bad time to be a billionaire's superyacht.

Walmart Heiress Nancy Walton Laurie’s $330m Kaos Superyacht Vandalised In Ibiza

Superyacht Kaos

Climate activists targeted a USD 330 million superyacht of Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie in Ibiza, Spain, to register their protest against carbon emissions for luxury lifestyles.

From Jeff Bezos $700m behemoth hiding dark and bloody secrets to the ill-fated Honolulu that was burned to a crisp , it’s a hard time to be a billionaire’s superyacht.

The Climate Protest On Kaos

kaos yacht innen

The 361-foot vessel, Kaos , was docked in the popular Mediterranean resort island when two activists from a Spanish organization, Futuro Vegetal , approached the superyacht and sprayed its stern with red and black paint using fire extinguishers last year. A video shared on social media by the organization shows that the ship’s crew quickly attempted to undo the damage of the paint by pouring water on it.

WATCH: The protest unfolding last year

After the vandalism, the activists displayed a sign that stated, “You Consume, Others Suffer,” criticizing capitalism.

Futuro Vegetal asserts that carbon emissions are unacceptably high among the world’s wealthiest individuals.

The group posted on X (formerly Twitter):

“We cannot continue like this; it is a matter of life or death. Listen to us, share our message!”

A second post noted, “The only reason we continue to maintain an economic system that leads us to eco-social collapse is to sustain the privileges of this small privileged class. The mega-rich live off the suffering of others.”

The group also confirmed that the authorities arrested the activists and would be appearing in court on Monday.

Climate protestors in the USA

This incident is part of a growing pattern where climate protests target the luxury assets of the ultra-rich.

Just two days earlier, members of Futuro Vegetal had sprayed yellow paint on a private jet at an Ibiza airport.

Similar protests were conducted in northern Germany in June by the German climate activist organization Last Generation .

They spray-painted a private jet orange and held signs that said “Your Luxury = Our Drought” and “Your Luxury = Our Crop Failures.”

Previously known as Al Menwar during its ownership by the Qatari royal family, the Kaos now stands as a symbol of extreme wealth but is a target for those protesting inequality and environmental impact.

Walton Laurie bought the superyacht in 2019, which underwent a complete renovation in 2020 by Luerssen in Hamburg, Germany.

The Walmart heiress also owns another superyacht named “Secret,” per Robbreport .

Kaos: A Floating Palace of Luxury

Just like Serene , a $400 million superyacht owned by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, and Koru , a $500 million vessel owned by the Amazon billionaire, the Kaos is a marvel of engineering.

Feadship 312-foot ‘Bliss’

Launched in May 2021, Bliss has the Dutch shipyard’s all-new hybrid propulsion system. Designed and engineered in partnership with De Voogt Naval Architects, the diesel-electric hybrid system is paired with Polar Code compliance, meaning guests can cruise the more sensitive Polar regions with greater efficiency and as light a footprint as possible. Welcoming nine guests in an interior designed by Remi Tessier, the 312-foot world traveler packs true go-anywhere capabilities, along with a gym, wellness space, a pool and a convertible helideck.

Royal Huisman’s 184-Foot Sailing Yacht ‘Aquarius’

Robb Report's Best Sailing Yacht 2019, the Royal Huisman Aquarius

When design simplicity meets cutting-edge technology, the result is 184-foot ketch Aquarius . Built for an owner who likes to race and explore in equal measure, the Royal Huisman sailing yacht shows how performance and classic design do not have to be mutually exclusive. Fast yet easy to sail, Aquarius has a ketch rig developed in collaboration by the yard, its sister company Rondal, and Dykstra Naval Architects. She pairs 9,843-square-feet of sails with the latest in navigational aids to be a world explorer. Classic teak decking and good seakeeping qualities make her a true sailor’s yacht.

Heesen 262-foot ‘Galactica’

kaos yacht innen

The 262-foot Galactica, built by Dutch shipyard Heesen in 2022, rewrites the rules of engineering. The owner’s brief requested fast and big, which led to an all-aluminum build to keep weight down and achieve speeds close to 30 knots, and a newly patented “backbone” for strength and rigidity. Developed in partnership with Dutch hydrodynamicists Van Oossanen, Galactica ’s fast displacement platform is created using two long, flat metal plates that are joined together by a vertical plate in the middle. This prevents the hull from flexing in water. Four MTU engines deliver 19,000-hp, and the addition of a fully-certified helipad means no place is off limits.

Ulstein Verft’s 290-Foot Motor Yacht ‘Olivia O’

Olivia O

Olivia O is a yacht that means business. Robust in every way, she is owned by a commercial shipping magnate with a love for industrial boats. Built by Norwegian shipyard Ulstein Verft Olivia O ’s rustic appeal is exemplified by the use of metal in the Espen Øino-designed interior, from windows with steel borders to corridors with painted metal ceilings. On water, she is defined by Ulstein’s trademarked X-Bow, which was originally designed for use on offshore vessels. Olivia O is the first yacht to ever feature it. Launched in 2020, she bridges the gap between luxury superyacht and authentic rugged explorer.

Oceanco’s 350-Foot Sailing Yacht ‘Black Pearl’

kaos yacht innen

Scooping the top spot for largest DynaRig sailing yacht in the world, Black Pearl is designed by Nuvolari Lenard (assisted by Villate Design). A tri-deck sailing yacht, she boasts three revolutionary 70m DynaRig carbon masts and a sailing system designed by Dykstra Naval Architects. What’s more impressive is that all 2,900sqm of her black, highly distinctive sails can be set in a rapid seven minutes, and all at the push of a button. Her hybrid propulsion system, and other environmental onboard systems, such as waste heat recovery, propel her among a new generation of environmentally sustainable, and highly efficient vessels.

Benetti 351-foot ‘Lana’

kaos yacht innen

One of the most exciting additions to the gigayacht club, Lana was built to discover the four corners of the globe. One of the largest yachts delivered by the Italian builder, Lana is powered by an unusual Rolls-Royce hybrid-electric propulsion, delivering fuel efficiency and long-range cruising. Delivered in 2020, she boasts a large pool on the sun deck that comes with its own heating system, meaning guests can enjoy a splash wherever she cruises. A waterside beach club with folding terraces creates a floating apartment at sea, equipped with a Hammam, massage room, and a dedicated professional therapist makes up one of the 33 full-time crew.

Bilgin 262-foot ‘Tatiana’

kaos yacht innen

Launched in 2020, Tatiana the new flagship yacht from Bilgin Yachts heralded the arrival of cutting-edge, metal-hulled Turkish-built superyachts. With an internal volume of 1,689 gross tons—more than twice that of Bilgin’s previous flagship— Tatiana is defined by long overhangs and a sweeping sheer line penned by Unique Yacht Design. But it’s the 1,200-square-foot lower deck beach club with its two fold-down sea terraces that steal the limelight. The centerpiece is a 30-foot long, freshwater swimming pool. A second glass-bottomed pool on the main deck bathes the beach club below in dappled sunlight. When the shell doors are closed, guests can pamper themselves in the spa that enjoys a hammam, massage room and wet bar with a backlit floor.

Oceanco’s 360-Foot ‘Kaos’ (ex-‘Jubilee’)

JUBILEE 00001374

The mighty motor yacht Kaos , formerly known as Jubilee , was built by Dutch shipyard Oceanco. For her Moscow-born exterior designer Igor Lobanov, she represents the need to always have faith in your own vision. Topping both length and volume records in the Netherlands at the time of her launch, Kaos’s layered double decks—the very thing that originally put so many people off the concept—are, for Lobanov, the key to the design’s success. “When you’re travelling on a small tender it gives the scale of a bigger yacht, but as you get closer to the yacht you realize her actual size. That’s what we wanted to achieve. We wanted it to be a design trick.” The illusion has been created with smoked glass panels between the decks that run the length of the superstructure and areas of teak decking inaccessible to guests, but which from a distance look like genuine deck spaces. Perfection.

Nobiskrug’s 262-Foot ‘Artefact’

kaos yacht innen

Renowned for a truly striking exterior before she had even hit water, Artefact is the latest launch from German shipyard Nobiskrug. Designed by Gregory C Marshall, she boasts an extensive use of both structural and decorative glass, and includes a number of new technological and engineering features to minimise its environmental impact. These include a large battery storage system which allows the boat to operate without internal combustion engines for a limited time. The biggest-volume 262-foot superyacht in the world, she is also among the first superyachts to meet IMO Tier III emissions regulations and features an innovative diesel-electric propulsion system developed with electric motor manufacturer ABB.

Sanlorenzo 112-foot SX112

kaos yacht innen

As the flagship of Sanlorenzo’s SX crossover line, the premise of the 111.5-foot SX112 is to introduce a new way of living at sea. Described by the Italian builder as a “floating building,” the innovative design enhances guests’ onboard connectivity to the outdoors. It’s achieved by reducing barriers to the outside and closer indoor-outdoor connection. Greater emphasis has been placed on the stern, which has a spacious internal beach area with easy access to the water and beyond, and elsewhere, retractable terraces maximize the outside connection. Exterior designed by Zucccon International, the SX112 gifts superyacht living space typically found on a much larger yacht aboard a compact platform.

Sunreef 78.7-foot 80 Eco

kaos yacht innen

Is there anything more responsible than an electric sailing yacht that creates renewable energy? We don’t think so. The Sunreef 80 Eco is a sustainable transatlantic catamaran that combines electric propulsion with superyacht living and reliable sailing performance. Designed for long offshore navigation, it even generates its own electricity while under sail via a hydro generation system. A total of 1,765-square-feet of ultra-lightweight composite-integrated solar panels are spread across the mast, boom, superstructure, Bimini and hull sides generating up to 32kWp. Inside, the 78.7-foot multihull enjoys living quarters and accommodation for up to 10 guests, thanks in part to a 38-foot beam. It’s like a luxury pied-à-terre on water.

McConaghy Boats’ 140-Foot Trimaran ‘Adastra’

kaos yacht innen

Costing over $20 million to build when launched in 2012, the owner of this custom-built transatlantic trimaran—shipping magnate Antony Marden—has cruised the seven seas for seven years turning heads everywhere he goes. Adastra ’s space age design comes from the boards of British studio Shuttleworth Design and was built in China by McConaghy Boats. Her speedy and light-weight hull is made from a super-strong e-glass/Kevlar foam sandwich, while her superstructure is made up of carbon fiber with a lightweight Nomex honeycomb core. Currently for sale, she provides the rare opportunity to own a yacht with “amazing seaworthiness” and looks like nothing else out there right now.

Lobanov Design

Established in 2007, Lobanov Design is a studio for the future. With roots in everything from transport design and fine art to interiors and architecture, this studio's diverse background gives it a fresh and dynamic approach to yacht design.

Having grown up in landlocked Moscow, founder Igor Lobanov 's career began in pursuit of his passion for the automotive and aviation worlds. Degrees in maths, car design and a masters in transport design led him to a role within the exterior design department of an iconic automobile manufacturer, before a chance meeting with a superyacht owner in 2003 changed his trajectory entirely. The owner brought Lobanov on as his representative for a groundbreaking new 119m project in build at Blohm + Voss; a project that was to become the mighty Motor Yacht A.

This three year career diversion ignited a new nautical passion for Lobanov but also reaffirmed his love of design. Knowing that he had his own story to tell, he enlisted the help of his wife, artist Yulia, and founded Lobanov Design . Specialising in exterior design, the new studio hit the ground running at its first Monaco Yacht Show in 2007, exhibiting two visionary motor yacht concepts with two renowned shipyards.

Over the past years, Lobanov Design has built itself around a world-class team of skilled professionals with the main office in Barcelona. Each team member brings with them a unique perspective on design, unexpected ideas and matchless expertise from a variety of fields: car design, interior design, motorbike design, architecture, aviation engineering and 3D modelling. This varied, comprehensive experience has helped Lobanov Design innovate, evolve and create, earning the studio respect and acclaim for its bold approach to luxury yacht design. Its first launch was the spectacular and extremely private 85.6m Y708 in 2013 with Oceanco and, most recently, the 110m Jubilee in 2017, the largest yacht to have been built in the Netherlands to date. Both yachts are multiple award-winning and pinnacles of design, human engineering and craftsmanship.

Driven by a desire to see more beauty in the world, Lobanov 's designs are sculptural and modern, each one an ode to proportion and integrity. Through hand sketching, 3D modelling, visualisation, GA development and detail development, the studio helps clients translate their dreams into the ultimate custom superyachts. Each project is as unique as its owner, embodying its own design language and style but always consistent in quality and ingenuity.
