The luxury automaker's first yacht is collaboration with wisconsin boatmaker marquis yachts..

You might think the world’s most expensive Lexus is an ultra-luxurious new car, but it’s not. Instead, it’s a performance yacht that’s finally set to go on sale next month.
Two years after Lexus first dipped its toes into the yacht-making pool, the company is finally ready to fully take the plunge, reports Forbes . Starting in late October, the Japanese luxury automaker’s first production boat, the 65-foot-long LY 650 , will go on sale in the US with a starting price of $3.7 million.
Lexus first tried its hand at yacht making in 2017 with the one-off 42-foot Sport Yacht Concept , which was made in collaboration with Wisconsin boatmaker Marquis Yachts . The two companies have again teamed up for the LY 650, which officially launched earlier this week in Boca Raton, Florida.
So what exactly are you getting from the world’s most expensive Lexus? A whole lot. The company’s new boat has a gorgeously flowing carbon fiber exterior that takes its cues from two of its most stylish cars, the LC coupe and LS saloon. As previously reported by Robb Report , its coupe-like profile is an attempt by the company to bring its “L-finesse” automotive design language to the water. It also features a salon and three berths, for passengers to lounge in while out on the sea.

Things aren’t any less stylish inside the yacht. Venice-based firm Nuvolari Lenard is responsible for the interior’s sporty-yet-elegant feel—curving lines awash in white and wood. There are three bedrooms, each of which feature their own ensuite facilities, and the boat can comfortably sleep six and accommodate up to 15. The previously mentioned salon is also outfitted with two comfortable captain’s chairs and two integrated sofas.
Because this is a Lexus, the powertrain is no slouch, either. the The LY 650 is powered by twin Volvo Penta IPS engines, which are each capable of outputting up to 1,350 hp. This impressive powertrain allows the boat to reach speeds of up to 31.4 knots. It’s also equipped with cutting-edge tech, like “LY-Link,” which delivers a real-time update of the voltage, fuel and water levels. It also detects abnormalities and send alerts when maintenance is needed.
While it may seem strange to see Lexus’s latest offering zipping through the ocean, the LY 650 is a huge step forward in the brand’s strategy. The company has ambitious plans to expand into to the culinary, design and film worlds. If the LY 650 is any indication, they’re off to a promising start.

Crafting amazing automobiles is something Lexus has pursued relentlessly, as evidenced by the beautiful hand-pleated door panels in the LS 500 or the complex paint process, inspired by the morpho butterfly, that results in dazzling Structural Blue. And crafting every touch point around the Lexus brand is an opportunity Lexus continues to seize. This maritime application is another proof point in Lexus’ storied history of exploring new frontiers both inside and outside the automotive industry.
Lexus continually evaluates what constitutes a luxury experience and has, as a result, ventured into the worlds of culinary, design, film, and more as alternative opportunities to interact with the brand. Driven by Lexus International President, Yoshihiro Sawa’s vision of Lexus as a brand that, “explores new ways to deliver innovative and amazing experiences for our guests,” Lexus has partnered with some of the world’s finest purveyors of experience to further celebrate the phrase, Experience Amazing.
And now, Lexus returns to the water with its next expression of a Lexus yacht in the form of the LY 650. Bearing the most contemporary expression of Lexus design language, L-finesse, applied beyond the world of automobiles, the production LY 650 picks up where the stunning Lexus Sport Yacht Concept left off.
LEXUS TAKUMI MEET MARQUIS-LARSON CRAFTSPEOPLE
Encouraged by the robust public interest in the Lexus Sport Yacht Concept, a follow-up maritime effort was fueled by Executive Vice President; Shigeki Tomoyama’s desire to, “present a dream-like vision of the luxury lifestyle; one where the Lexus Yacht expands the potential of Lexus mobility to the ocean.” Making this dream-like vision a reality, Marquis-Larson Boat Group was selected to build, sell and service the next Lexus yacht based largely on their extensive experience with bespoke boat building and their proven capability, confirmed by their work bringing the Lexus Sport Yacht Concept to life.
Based in Pulaski, WI, Marquis-Larson is the ideal partner to bring the second chapter of Lexus yacht design to fruition with their thorough blend of artisanal craftsmanship, modern technology and inspired design. Complementing Lexus’ renowned heritage of Takumi craftspeople who are supremely skilled in their roles, Marquis’ craftsmanship backbone is clearly demonstrated by their masterful boat builders, many of whom have been with the company for 30 years.
L-FINESSE SEAMLESSLY TRANSITIONS FROM AUTOMOTIVE TO MARITIME APPLICATIONS
Several of the most attractive features from the 42-foot concept have made their way onto the LY 650. In 65-foot overall length, 19-foot beam form, the newest Lexus yacht has a distinguished style found in the strong, pronounced bow, curved deck accents and accentuated aft hips. Viewed from the profile, the elegant rise and fall of the yacht’s distinctly Lexus roofline flows into rising, broad hips of the rear section.

BOCA RATON, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES (September 19, 2019)—In its continuing challenge to deliver innovative and amazing experiences to its customers, Lexus held the world premiere of its first luxury yacht, the Lexus LY 650, today in Boca Raton.
The LY 650 is a new embodiment of Lexus’ challenge to go beyond the automobile to deliver innovative and amazing experiences. Based on the Lexus Sport Yacht Concept first shown in January 2017, the LY 650 features unique styling and superb cruising performance. Lexus – which aspires to be a true luxury lifestyle brand - has fused advanced technology and craftsmanship to provide an irreplaceable experience that stimulates the senses and exceeds owner expectations, even at sea.
This LY 650 flagship yacht is the new embodiment of the Lexus “CRAFTED” philosophy, to which exquisite attention to detail and anticipatory hospitality are applied in every possible aspect.
The shape of the hull, the abundant volume of the stern, and other elements, in addition to beautiful curved lines, give the LY 650 unprecedented and distinctive exterior styling.
Collaboration with Italian yacht design studio Nuvolari Lenard*1 has resulted in an advanced design and a comfortable interior living space that exemplifies high quality in every detail.
Furthermore, in pursuit of cruising that achieves the exhilarating performance of a Lexus, the yacht rides on a light and highly rigid composite hull that combines CFRP (carbon fiber-reinforced plastic) and GFRP (glass fiber-reinforced plastic), and was jointly developed with Marquis Yachts LLC*2. Additionally, the LY 650 is equipped with LY-Link, an advanced connectivity technology for boating that shares timely information and provides control of various yacht functions.
The LY 650 is built in collaboration with the craftspeople of Marquis Yachts in Pulaski, Wisconsin, USA. With the start of LY 650 manufacturing, Marquis Yachts has applied the famous Toyota Production System in its production processes to improve production efficiencies and quality. The new yacht will appear at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in Florida Oct. 30 – Nov. 3, 2019.
President Akio Toyoda commented: "The LY 650 symbolizes the challenge taken by Lexus, which aspires to be a true luxury lifestyle brand, to venture beyond the automobile.
A collaborative team between Toyota and Marquis Yachts introduced the Toyota Production System to the boat manufacturing facility to improve productivity and quality.
This allowed the Lexus “CRAFTED” philosophy of anticipatory hospitality and meticulous attention to detail to become a reality in the form of a luxury yacht. I am truly looking forward to seeing the advanced, high quality LY650 display its beauty on the oceans across the globe. As a mobility company, we are pursuing new possibilities for mobility even on the sea."
The premiere yacht features an optional two-tone color scheme that highlights its one-of-a-kind form and captures the image of the Lexus Sports Yacht Concept from 2017. Metallic accents on the bow, side windows, and the vessel’s L-shaped air intakes create the iconic image of a Lexus yacht.
The interior fuses advanced design and omotenashi (Japanese hospitality that sincerely and warm heartedly anticipates and fulfills people’s needs) in pursuit of high quality that is distinctively Lexus and features a bright, white-themed interior space for a sense of openness, while the use of curving lines and creative lighting provide a comfortable sense of envelopment.
The salon’s efficient layout features dual captain’s seats and sofas set forward and a galley set aft. Below the salon are three elegant berths with 6 feet and 6 inches (more than two meters) of headroom, each with a private head with shower.
To achieve the exhilarating performance of a Lexus, the LY 650 was meticulously designed and engineered to provide both cruising comfort and dynamic response to the helm in any yachting situation.
The powertrain features twin Volvo Penta® IPS*3 engines (1350/1200/1050). By integrating these with a unique underwater-hull shape achieved through the application of computational fluid dynamics modeling, Lexus was able to achieve not only high output and low fuel consumption, but also exceptional cruising stability and maneuverability. The LY 650 also boasts an array of piloting-support functions, including joystick control, fixed-point position-holding at sea, and an auto-flap function.
The underwater hull and the upper part of the hull are constructed of CFRP for lightness and high rigidity, contributing to remarkable high-speed performance and a comfortable cruising experience. Sandwich panels with excellent soundproofing qualities are used in the main walls to help ensure exceptional quietness for uninterrupted conversation.
LY-Link, an advanced technology for boat connectivity, shares and provides various information in a timely manner. The technology can be used to monitor the vessel and have notifications sent via text message should an abnormality be detected. It also enhances convenience by enabling users to remotely turn on and turn off such components as the yacht’s air conditioning system and lights via a smartphone.
From the captain’s seat, both style and high operability come into play, thanks to a stylish instrument panel with touchscreen operation.
An available custom Mark Levinson® Surround Sound System with a subwoofer system creates an immersive concert hall-like acoustic space in the salon.

A few years ago the Toyota Marine Department invited Toyota Motor Corporation president Akio Toyoda to spend several days on the water driving their new Ponam range of premium yachts soon to be launched in Japan.
As a master driver, Toyoda was inspired by the power of the turbodiesel powertrains and the handling and stability of the advanced hull designs; as the Chief Branding Officer of Lexus International, he also appreciated the potential of a stylish premium performance yacht to complement the Lexus lifestyle.
This led the Marine Department to envision how a premium performance yacht might expand the Lexus brand into new areas of lifestyle and recreation. Today Lexus reveals the result of this project, a running proof-of-concept for a Lexus Sport Yacht, at Di Lido Island on Biscayne Bay, Miami Beach FL.
A brief for an open sport yacht for recreational day-touring with six to eight guests, powered by twin high-performance Lexus V8s and with advanced styling and handling was given to the Lexus Design Center in Toyota City, Japan. In the summer of 2015 concepts from the design team were evaluated by Senior Managing Officer Tokuo Fukuichi, Chief Officer of Global Design and President of Lexus International Co., Senior Managing Officer Shigeki Tomoyama in charge of the Toyota Marine Department, and President Toyoda.
"This concept for a Lexus Sport Yacht allowed us to explore how Lexus design language could be applied to a maritime lifestyle," said Yoshihiro Sawa, executive vice president of Lexus International.
"For the Lexus Design Center this project has been very exciting. The effort is valuable to us as it stirs our creative energies and pushes our imagination to design and lifestyle possibilities outside of the automotive realm we know well."
The selected proposal continued to be refined throughout 2015 as the Marine Department engineered the construction and onboard marine systems.
As a concept, the Lexus Sport Yacht revealed at Miami is a bespoke one-off project with no production intent.
To produce this single example the Marine Department selected the Marquis-Carver Yacht Group of Pulaski, Wisconsin, USA, based on their in-house engineering and manufacturing capabilities and their skill in large hand-laid composite structures.
The design of the Lexus Sport Yacht concept has the upper deck and outer hull seamlessly bonded around the inner structure, each piece a single massive hand-laid composite of two-part polyurethane epoxy resin reinforced with hand-laid woven carbon fiber cloth, a composite material called carbon-fiber reinforced plastic, or CFRP. CFRP is the technology used in the structure of racecars and supercars like the 202 mile per hour (325 kmh) 553 horsepower Lexus LFA, high-performance military and civilian aircraft, competition skis and bicycles, and world-class racing sailboats.
The Lexus Sport Yacht concept's unique CFRP construction saves nearly 2,200 pounds (1,000 kg) compared to a similar yacht in fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP). The underwater hull design is stepped to reduce resistance or drag and improve handling balance at high speeds.
The concept is powered by twin 5.0-liter V8 gasoline engines based on the 2UR GSE high-performance engine of the Lexus RC F coupe, the GS F sport sedan and the new LC 500 grand tourer. Each engine produces over 440 horsepower, driving the yacht at speeds up to 49 miles per hour (43 knots) through a pair of hydraulically controlled inboard/outboard stern-drives. A bow-thruster with joystick control aids in docking.
The captain controls and monitors onboard systems from a color touchscreen panel at the helm; screens show GPS navigation, digital charts, surface radar, underwater sonar, lighting and entertainment systems. The captain's seat is power adjustable; the armrests fold out to become jump seats on each side for very special guests.
The forward passenger cabin is inviting in luxurious Lexus leather with wood and glass details. A standing height, sofa seating for six with a table, and air conditioning create a comfortable environment for intimate entertaining. The galley features a two-burner stove, sink and under-counter refrigerator; a beautifully finished head includes a shower.
An integrated audio-video entertainment system is fully networked, with 4G WiFi & WAN. Sound reproduction is by Revolution Acoustics surface-mounted drivers using the ceiling panel as a transducer, powered by a Mark Levinson ® Reference digital amplifier.

Marquis and toyota team up to design and launch a high-performance runabout….
Marquis Yachts LLC, makers of Marquis and Carver yachts, has partnered with Toyota Motor Corporation's marine division to engineer and build a prototype concept boat with a luxury mission worthy of the Lexus brand. The result is a sensually stylish, 42-foot open sports boat informed by the Lexus design language. The Lexus Sport Yacht made its debut on 12 January at a Lexus-hosted "Through the Lens" global media event in Miami, Florida.
The idea, two years in the making, came about when Toyota’s CEO, Akio Toyoda, was testing one of the marine division's new boats that use Toyota diesel engines. He wanted to see what a sports yacht inspired by Lexus design would look like. The result is certainly a step up the luxury ladder from the mid-90s when Toyota first entered the marine market with the Epic line of inboard ski boats.
The carbon fibre prototype, built by Marquis in Wisconsin, is equipped with twin Lexus V8 engines that share the same bright blue-painted intake manifolds as the Lexus RC F. Their combined 880 horsepower provide a top speed in excess of 40 knots.
"In building the Lexus Sport Yacht concept, we managed and administered a quality programme to their exacting standards and expectations: we'll apply what we've learned to all Marquis and Carver Yachts going forward," says Paul Liss, Vice President of Operations & Manufacturing at Marquis. "We worked with extreme tolerance levels to construct this boat: essentially these are aerospace-like tolerances and specifications."
Marquis also collaborated closely with Diesel Center Frabetti Design in Italy, and with the Lexus designers and Toyota Marine engineers in Japan, to meet the exacting quality and performance standards expected of a Lexus-branded product.
"This project used all the in-house capabilities we have at our disposal,” says Josh Delforge, Vice President of Design at Marquis, “including engineering, modelling, mould-making, lay-up of composite structures, metal shop fabrication, upholstery, paint and other techniques, to come to life."
The initiative follows forays by other premium automotive brands into the world of powerboat design, including Aston Martin with its AM37 and the Arrow 460GT from Mercedes. Unlike its high-performance rivals, the Lexus project was kept under the radar during development, but judging from the above images the two-tone dayboat is every bit as sleek and polished.
But don’t expect to see the Lexus Sport Yacht on sale anytime soon. Although the prototype is up and running, much like a concept supercar it is intended as a one-off project and sadly there are no current plans to put it into production.

Lexus sport yacht.
Curious as to what a Lexus vessel might look like, Toyota motors president Akio Toyoda decided to go ahead and build one. The Lexus Sport Yacht is the result. Created by the Lexus Design Center and built by Marquis-Carver in Wisconsin, this 42-foot, eight passenger yacht has the same combination of power and luxury as the company's cars. It's powered by a pair of 5.0L V8 engines producing 880 total hp, enough to hit speeds of up to 43 knots, helped along by CFRP construction that saves more than a ton over a fiberglass build. The cockpit is home to a color touchscreen that lets the pilot monitor and control all aspects of the ship, and high-end finishes of leather, wood, and glass offer the same comforts you'll find in Lexus' land-locked transports.
Motorcycles and snow might seem like an odd pairing, but they go together just...

A global reveal..
Lexus , a division of Japanese car manufacturer Toyota , revealed its fully redesigned LS sedan just a few days ago at the Detroit Auto Show. But the company followed with an even bigger splash yesterday by announcing a seafaring addition to its luxury transportation portfolio, the Sport Yacht Concept. The vessel was revealed with panache: it was driven slowly, unannounced, through Biscayne Bay with Toyota Motor Corporation president and CEO Akio Toyoda waving from the deck before docking at an ornate Lexus-branded mansion in Miami Beach.
Joining the ranks of Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz’s marine collaborations with automotive pedigrees, Lexus’s gilded, rose-coloured craft is a showstopper. Its carbon fibre hull conceals twin high-performance V8 engines, each producing over 440 horsepower to propel the yacht at top speeds of 79 km/h (43 knots). The interior is finished in Lexus leather with plush couch seating for six, full air conditioning, and a stove and shower. Produced in partnership with the Marquis-Carver Yacht Group, Lexus kept the top secret project under wraps by performing sea trials during the off-season in Green Bay, Wisconsin, only adding the Lexus logo to the boat in the final stages of production.
If you’re in the market, however, there’s a catch: the sleek specimen is a bespoke one-off, so Lexus aficionados will have to wrangle the right connections to score a ride on the vessel. Yoshihiro Sawa, executive vice president of Lexus International, explains the project’s intent. “This concept for a Lexus Sport Yacht allowed us to explore how Lexus design language could be applied to a maritime lifestyle,” he says. “The effort is valuable to us as it stirs our creative energies and pushes our imagination to design lifestyle possibilities outside of the automotive realm we know well.”
Indeed, Lexus has branched out of that domain in recent years, from its hoverboard release in 2015 to the design of the single-seater Lexus Skyjet for Luc Besson’s upcoming film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets , a futuristic sci-fi starring Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne. In theory, the Skyjet vessel travels through space and time, but consumers will have to wait about 700 years for technology to catch up before Lexus puts that concept into production.

Timmerman Yachts completed the building motor yacht OLSTEN in 2004. Accordingly, she has the distinction of being built country of Russia. OLSTEN is a yacht which had design completed by Moscow Shipyard and Moscow Shipyard. This superyacht OLSTEN is able to accommodate a maximum of 12 passengers all told aboard together with around 6 professional crew. Finished and launched in 2004 the comparatively recent interior design and decor demonstrates the proficiency which are originating from Moscow Shipyard and the owner who commissioned the yacht.
Moscow Shipyard was the naval architect firm involved in the professional vessel composition for OLSTEN. Also the company Moscow Shipyard successfully worked on this undertaking. Interior designer Moscow Shipyard was commissioned for the internal interior styling. Russia is the country that Timmerman Yachts built their new build motor yacht in. After her formal launch in 2004 in Moscow the boat was then handed over to the owner after final finishing. Her hull was constructed with steel. The motor yacht main superstructure is made predominantly from aluminium. With a width of 6.8 m or 22.31 feet OLSTEN has moderate internal space. A fairly shallow draught of 1.7m (5.56ft) affects the number of harbours she can berth in, taking into account their particular depth.
The 3406E engine installed in the motor yacht is produced by CATERPILLAR. Connected to her Caterpillar engine(s) are twin screw propellers. The engine of the yacht creates 600 horse power (or 442 kilowatts). She is fitted with 2 engines. The total thrust for the yacht is accordingly 1200 HP or 884 KW.
Providing room for a limit of 12 visiting passengers spending the night, the OLSTEN accommodates them in luxury. She also has room for circa 6 expert crew members to operate.

Moscow came under one of the largest attacks yet by Ukrainian drones since the start of fighting in 2022, further rattling Vladimir Putin as he attempts to fight Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region.
The Ministry of Defence claimed that Russia downed 45 Ukrainian drones overnight, with 11 destroyed over the Moscow region, 23 over the Bryansk region, six over Belgorod, three over Kaluga and two over Kursk.
Moscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin said on his Telegram channel: ‘This was one of the biggest attempts of all time to attack Moscow using drones.’
He said strong defences around the capital made it possible to shoot down all the drones before they could hit their intended targets.
Some Russian social media channels shared videos of drones apparently being destroyed by air defence systems, which then set off car alarms.
Alexander Bogomaz, the governor of the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, reported a ‘mass’ attack on his region but that 23 drones were destroyed.
While Ukraine has been bogged down in a land conflict in eastern Europe in which the Russians have been driving forward slowly at a heavy cost to both sides, Kyiv has also been attacking Russia with drones.
Ukraine has targeted oil refineries and airfields in an attempt to weaken Russia’s fighting potential, and has also targeted the capital several times.
The drone attacks come as Ukrainian forces are continuing to push into Russia’s western Kursk region.
The daring incursion into Russia has raised morale in Ukraine with its surprising success and changed the dynamic of the fighting.
But it is uncertain how long Ukraine will be able to hold the territory it has seized in Kursk.
It has also opened up another front in a fight where Ukrainian forces were already badly stretched.
The gains in Kursk come as Ukraine continues to lose ground in its eastern industrial region of Donbas.
The Institute for the Study of War, a think tank based in Washington, said in its daily report late on Tuesday that the Ukrainians had made additional advances in their incursion, now in its third week.
The Russian state news agency Tass reported that 31 people had died since Ukraine’s attack on Russia began on August 6, citing an unnamed source in the medical service – figures which are impossible to verify.

Update vom 21. August, 12.10 Uhr: „There were deaths“, „es gab Tote“.
( rd/dpa )
