When you’re Magic Johnson, a simple European getaway just won’t do. You have to take in the continent by boat.

The NBA legend and entrepreneur is currently enjoying some time cruising around the Mediterranean onboard the Aquila , a 281-foot superyacht . And the Lakers great and his wife Cookie have invited along a star-studded group of pals, including Samuel L. Jackson and LL Cool J, to join in on the experience.

Magic, who TMZ says likes to spend a month across the Atlantic each summer, has gone all out for his latest vacation. The Aquila is the largest boat built in the US since the 1930s, according to its Burgess charter listing . Originally developed by Derektor in 2010, the vessel sailed under the name Cakewalk until it was sold and completely refitted in 2016. The renewed, four-deck yacht has even more space from which its passengers can gaze upon cities like Corfu, Capri and Cervo, and is perfect for entertaining a one very large man and his family and friends.

The yacht has a massive owner’s suite with a massage room, salon and private deck that overlooks the bow, along with six other spacious guest suites. There’s also a cinema room, gym, two more massage rooms. When it comes time for entertaining, there’s a saloon called the London Bar, a beach club at sea level and a dedicated party deck with its own DJ booth, AV system and smoke machine. The interior’s pièce de résistance, though, is a 36-foot “waterfall” chandelier that stretches from the sun deck to the lower deck.

Other amenities on the Aquila include a limousine tender, a deck jacuzzi, aquapark, trampoline and all the water toys you could ever want (think: jet skis, kayaks and wakeboards). The yacht, which has a 50-foot beam, is also manned by a crew of 28. It’s powered by two 3,306 hp MTU engine and has a top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots.

As you may have guessed, a boat like this doesn’t come cheap. The superyacht is reportedly worth over $150 million . Johnson is only chartering the vessel, but even that will set him back nearly €1 million (or about $1.2 million) a week, according to the listing. One thing is clear: No. 32 loves spending time on the Aquila . In fact, this isn’t his first time he’s rented the vessel. He also took it out on vacation back in 2019, according to TMZ . And honestly, who can blame him?

Magic Johnson Kicks Off Annual Star-Studded Couples Yacht Trip Through Europe

Nobody does a couples trip like NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson. Every year, Johnson and his wife Cookie host a trip around Europe via yacht with some of their favorite people, many of whom are public figures. The couple kickstarted their latest tour in Barcelona.

“We are officially on vacation!! 😁,” the 64-year-old said as the caption to photos with a few of the other couples in their finest threads and a few shots of them enjoying fine dining. “Hanging out with our great friends John and Vicki Palmer and Sam and LaTanya Jackson at Boca Grande in Barcelona, Spain! The food was *chef’s kiss*” he wrote.

After visiting Barcelona, the couples’ next stop on the summer tour was the party city of Ibiza. They indulged in seafood and enjoyed some serene views from the yacht and were joined by another star couple, Cedric the Entertainer and his wife , Lorna.

“Today Cookie and I enjoyed a beautiful day in Ibiza, Spain,” he wrote. “We had a wonderful lunch at Juan Y Andrea Formentera with our friends John and Vicki Palmer, Sam and LaTanya Jackson, and Cedric the Entertainer and his wife Lorna. I encourage everyone to have lunch right on the beach at Juan Y Andrea. We ate the catch of the day, fresh sea bass and lobster… So delicious!”

In 2023 , the Johnsons toured Europe and had quite a few celebrity friends come along for that trip. In addition to Samuel L. Jackson and his wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Vicki and John Palmer, they spent time with Judge Greg Mathis and his wife, Linda Mathis, as well as Michael Jordan and his wife, Yvette Prieto. Johnson also had his kids join the trip last year, including Andre and his wife Lisa, his son EJ and daughter Elisa, and their grandchildren Gigi and Avery.

Some highlights of the trips usually include top-tier meals from a private chef and Fourth of July celebrations. We look forward to seeing where the couples land next and living vicariously through them!

Inside Magic Johnson’s Six-Week Yacht Voyage: Former NBA Champion Spent a Reported $7.5 Million for the Experience with Family and Friends

Former NBA player Magic Johnson works hard and plays hard. Just a few months before reaching billionaire status, Johnson spent six weeks on a yacht vacation with his wife, Cookie, hosting their friends and family along the way.  

While the voyage was in August, photos of the vacay recently resurfaced. Johnson and his guests stayed aboard the Phoenix 2. The luxury yacht’s charter prices were just under $1.25 million weekly, according to the company website. And for Johnson’s six week journey, it is estimated that he spent $7.5 million.  

Johnson, who has a reported net worth of $1.2 billion, traveled throughout the Mediterranean. Johnson and Cookie began their adventures in Antibes, France, before heading to Italy to visit towns such as Portoffino, Capriccioli, Capri, Positano, Nerano, and Sicily; the Corinth Canal, Mykonos, Oia, Kefalonia, Kalami and Santorini in Greece; and Montenegro before ending the journey in Dubrovnik, Croatia. In total, Johnson was able to visit five countries with 18 members of his inner circle. 

During the trip, Johnson participated in day excursions, staying in San Dominici Palace in Taormina and the Four Seasons hotel in Sicily. And while the nightly charge for these hotel stays were upwards of $1700, it is no comparison to the cost of renting a luxury yacht for six weeks. 

Life on the Yacht 

The seven-cabin yacht includes the primary cabin, which is a split-level apartment. Panoramic views of the ocean coupled with a private terrace are connected by a private stairwell. The yacht’s other cabins are situated on three decks of the ship and are accessible by elevator. 

There’s also three swimming pools, several jacuzzis, a fitness room and wellness center, an indoor and outdoor movie theater, a bar and even a hair salon. 

The yacht also comes ready with a 29-member crew ready to support the needs of guests. 

Johnson’s Experience 

Johnson and Cookie began their journey with some of the former Laker’s celebrity friends. Voyagers included Michael Jordan, Judge Mathis and Samuel L. Jackson and their respective spouses. 

“Tonight we enjoyed an incredible dinner at the world-famous Da Paolino Ristorante aka the lemon tree restaurant in Capri, Italy!” Johnson shared on Instagram.  “AND I got to hang out with my great friend and the greatest basketball player to ever live, Michael Jordan, and his wife Yvette, Sam and LaTanya Jackson, Judge Greg and Linda Mathis, and John and Vicki Palmer.”

Crew members made the journey memorable with food and entertainment related to the Mediterranean. 

On one evening, for instance, Johnson and his guests participated in a masquerade party. While in Greece, they experienced a “Greek God and Goddess Extravaganza.” 

Once Johnson’s friends left, his children and grandchildren joined the trip in Italy. 

”Cookie and I are excited to have our kids Andre, EJ, Elisa, our daughter-in-law Lisa and grandkids Gigi and Avery join us on the yacht!” Johnson posted on Instagram.

Magic Johnson and I met at Morgan State University at the Julius Serving Basketball. He is a great person who made an impact in my life He has worked hard to get where he is for himself and his family. Therefore, it is not in good taste to question the way he spends his money with his friends and family.

Magic and his beautiful wife deserve to vacation with their family and friends and that’s the bottom line. None of know the hard work it took for him to live this way. He’s an amazing philanthropist that empowers others to live their best lives. What he’s done after basketball is as amazing as what he did playing basketball

It is the second largest island in the sea, right behind Sicily, and it's just big enough to harbor the massive yacht the celebrities are relaxing on. Magic Johnson is renting the yacht at an exorbitant $1 million per week, and they are about to enter week two of the vacation extravaganza.

The two are on summer hiatus after busy starts to their 2023. For Magic Johnson, the Laker legend was looking to make a bid for the NFL team, the Washington Commanders, as part of an investment group. If the deal were to get pushed through, he will be part of the group that owns the franchise for a record-breaking $6.05 billion price tag. Meanwhile, Samuel L. Jackson is coming off filming for the Marvel TV series Secret Invasion , currently streaming on Disney+.

Magic Johnson & Samuel L. Jackson Soaking Up The Sun

Samuel L. Jackson is also coming off filming the sequel to Marvel's 2019 movie Captain Marvel , aptly named The Marvels. At 74 years old, the man deserves a break, and he's doing exactly that on a yacht in Sardinia. During his time with Magic, Jackson has been receiving acupuncture and cupping treatments to help relieve him of some physical soreness. This is to set him up for more filming, as the prolific actor is under contract for four upcoming features within the next year.

Johnson and Jackson jumped off the mega-yacht for some Italian grub at the Cala di Volpe Hotel. Magic has taken this annual trip for almost a decade straight, renting the "Phoenix2," which measures 296 feet long. The yacht has everything you could ever ask for: an outdoor theater, swimming pool, jacuzzis, and a gym. No word on when -- if ever -- the two of them will disembark the Phoenix2. For now, they're enjoying the time off.

Magic Johnson’s Children Join Him On Yacht Vacation In Europe: ‘Nothing Like Quality Family Time’

Magic Johnson and his wife, Cookie, are enjoying a lavish vacation in the Mediterranean Sea. For the occasion, the couple rented the Lürssen PHOENIX 2, a 295-foot yacht inspired by Art Deco style from 1930s New York.

The couple embarked on the charter boat earlier this month, kicking off their tour across the region. They stopped by several coastal towns, including Antibes in France, as well as Italy’s Portofino, Capri, Positano and Nerano.

Johnson has been sharing updates of his vacation with his fans via social media. On Sunday, the Hall of Famer shared family photographs shot on deck – sharing that his children joined him on the yacht.

“Cookie and I are excited to have our kids Andre, EJ, Elisa, our daughter-in-law Lisa and grandkids Gigi and Avery join us on the yacht!” he captioned a post .

Johnson has been exploring local cuisine and shared snapshots of himself enjoying the region’s fine dining, including freshly caught sea bass, pasta, pizza and Positano lemons.

“It’s nothing like quality family time and Cookie and I are just thrilled that God blessed us with an amazing and awesome family,” he wrote in an Instagram post .

Last week, Johnson invited several familiar faces onto the yacht, which included Samuel L. Jackson and his wife LaTanya Jackson, Judge Greg and Linda Mathis, John and Vicki Palmer, as well as Yvette and Michael Jordan, whom he referred to as the “greatest basketball player to ever live.”

Some of the couples indulged in a 1970s-themed party onboard. Guests dressed in disco-inspired outfits, which included flared pants, bright patterns and oversized sunglasses.

“The other night, the Phoenix II crew did an amazing job of throwing us a 70s party! We all dressed up and had a blast!!” Johnson shared in an Instagram post .

They renamed the yacht the “soul boat” for the occasion.

It's that time of the year once again -- Magic Johnson is exploring Europe with his A-list pals this week ... enlisting Samuel L. Jackson and Cedric the Entertainer for the festivities!!

The 64-year-old Hall of Famer and his wife, Cookie , have been documenting their whole trip on social media ... raving about their time in Ibiza, which has included feasting on lobster and sea bass and cruising on a luxurious yacht.

The gang made their way around the Mediterranean Sea on a smaller boat as well ... and judging by the pics, the vibes were at an all-time high.

It's become quite the tradition for the Lakers legend ... as the vacation has been a thing for more than a decade at this point.

Other attendees in the past included names like LL Cool J and Rodney Peete ... but it's unclear if those guys will be joining in on the fun at a later date.

No word on how much it costs to rent their yacht of choice this year ... but Magic's been known to drop hundreds of thousands of dollars a week to ride in style -- so we take it that's the case again.

Magic Johnson, 61, Treats Friends Samuel Jackson & LL Cool J To Vacation on $1.1 Million Yacht

Magic Johnson spared no expense when he brought his famous pals Samuel L. Jackson and LL Cool J on a luxurious yachting trip to Italy.

Earvin “Magic” Johnson , 61, and his wife  Cookie,  62, set sails for the the shores of Italy for a scenic vacation. The former NBA star leased the 281-foot yacht Aquila for the trip, which costs $1.1 million per week to rent, via TMZ . With such a big boat, Magic and Cookie made the trip a star-studded affair and invited famous friends to join with their wives, as well. The couple extended the invite to actor Samuel L. Jackson , 72, rapper  LL Cool J , 53, and former NFL star  Rodney Peete , 55, along with their significant others. It also appears the celebrities were joined by an anesthesiologist friend Anthony Calloway  and his wife.

Even without all the stars onboard, the vacation seems like it would be a blast. Not only are there scenic views of the gorgeous Italian coast, but the Aquila is decked out with any accommodations you can dream of. The boat won the 2017 World Superyacht Award and comes equipped with a cinema room, spa, massage rooms, beach club and elevator, according to the broker Burgess Yachts .

Magic and his famous friends looked like they had plenty of fun on their week-long trek. The stars posted many photos on their Instagram pages of the stunning views they took in on the trip. LL shared a ton of videos showing off both the sights they were seeing and the boat’s fabulous amenities . During the trip, it also looks like Anthony celebrated a birthday, as  Magic posted a video of the couples and the boat’s crew singing and dancing onboard with giant “Happy Birthday” balloons.

The stars took plenty of time to chronicle their vacation. Magic also shared tons of photos where he’s posing with his wife and friends. Besides the shot of him “hanging with my boys in Porto Cervo,” Magic also posted himself and Cookie alongside Samuel and his wife LaTanya Jackson in Sorrento. All the couples posed on deck with a beautiful mountain backdrop for a group shot. Magic wrote that they were “Having the best of times in Capri.”

Magic Johnson and his wife Earlitha "Cookie" Johnson are enjoying their summer travels together.

The couple, who are just one month shy of celebrating their 33rd wedding anniversary , are known for their luxurious annual yacht trips during the warmer months, complete with a gang of famous faces .

However, in recent weeks, Magic, 64, and Cookie, 65, have been making time for each other.

“We had a marvelous day today in the beautiful Venice, Italy!” the billionaire and former professional basketball player captioned an Aug. 7 Instagram carousel of himself and his longtime love.

For the cover image, the husband and wife posed under a gondola sign wearing coordinating red looks while one of the famous boats was moored in the canal.

Magic wore a white Dior T-shirt with a red logo and matching shorts. Cookie stood beside him smiling in a crimson dress and sandals and black Hermes Constance bag. 

In the photos that followed, there was one of the businessman smiling for a picture once they were seated on the boat, as well as videos showing off the scenery from the ride.

On Thursday, Aug. 8, he shared more images from Italy with his wife.

“We enjoyed an amazing lunch today at Belmond Cipriani at Hotel Cipriani! Now it’s time to settle in and watch the Olympics 🍿,” the former Olympian captioned another set of photos. Johnson was a member of Team USA's 1992 men's basketball squad nicknamed The Dream Team. They won gold in Barcelona.

Like the previous pics, Magic showed the pair posing together — this time adding a few slides of the longtime couple having lunch together on the water from the hotel’s restaurant.

Before making time for just the two of them, Cookie and Magic spent time abroad with friends. 

Their notable bunch included a couples trip with LaTanya and Samuel L. Jackson , John and Vicki Palmer, and Cedric the Entertainer and Lorna Wells.

"Today, we had an amazing day exploring in Palma de Mallorca, Spain with our friends! We visited one of the largest Mediterranean Gothic churches in Spain that took over 400 years to build," the Believing in Magic author wrote in one of his captions.

The group’s travels caught the eye of many, including Jimmy Kimmel who began photoshopping himself into their vacation photos as a way to hilariously live vicariously through the friends. 

“¡Buenos Días from Ibiza! #MagicSummer ,” Kimmel, 56, captioned a July 2 Instagram post of himself added to a photo of Magic and Cookie aboard a yacht.

After a followup faux post from the late night talk show host, Samuel, 75, jokingly called Kimmel out for not contributing financially to the group trip. 

“ @jimmykimmel still got Alligator Arms when the check comes!!” the Secret Invasion star wrote under the altered image.

Vacation like Magic Johnson: 8 destinations visited on his Med luxury yacht charter

Retired American professional basketball player Earvin "Magic" Johnson is no stranger to the delights of a superyacht charter and this time has returned to the Mediterranean to enjoy the 70 metre motor yacht Amadeus .

The former point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers has been enjoying his trip around the Mediterranean with his wife, Cookie, and several celebrity friends along the way including Samuel L Jackson and Lewis Hamilton.

Here are eight destinations that Magic Johnson has visited during his trip.

Sorrento, Itlay

Magic Johnson and his wife Cookie started their vacation in Sorrento, Italy. The south-eastern Italian town perches on a cliff facing the Bay of Naples on the Sorrentine Peninsula.

Cookie posted this picture of the couple celebrating the start of their vacation on board the spcacious Amadeus. Built in 2007 and refitted in 2014 some of her unqiue features include a cinema on the main deck, sauna, automated golf driving range and a Steinway grand piano.

Capri, Italy

After leaving Sorrento Magic and Cookie Johnson made their way to Capri to celebrate July Fourth on the boat . Samuel L. Jackson and his wife LaTanya, as well as Magic's friends John and Vickie Palmer, joined in the party.

The beautiful island of Capri is a superyacht hotspot during the summer months and Capri town offers a host of fantastic restaurants serving some of the world’s best pizza.

While in Capri the group enjoyed a dinner off the yacht with Miami Heat owner Mickey Arison and his wife Madeleine.

Porto Cervo, Sardinia

From Capri the group then cruised across the Tyrrhenian Sea to stylish Porto Cervo. The seaside resort is the centre of activities on the Costa Smeralda and is one of the Mediterranean’s top party destinations . Porto Cervo draws a host of the world’s largest yachts every summer and is also home to the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta.

Bonifacio, Corsica

After Porto Cervo Amadeus headed on to the Port of Bonifacio on the Southern tip of Corsica. Magic and Cookie posted pictures of them arriving while relaxing on Amadeus’ Jacuzzi deck. The marina nestles underneath towering cliffs and is only a short walk up to the town.

Bonifacio is a stunning, almost perfectly preserved, medieval fortified town. The fortress is built on a high rock protected on three sides by limestone cliffs and the sea.

Portofino, Italy

Superyacht Amadeus then cruised along the east-coast of Corsica before traversing back across towards the Italian mainland. Magic and Cookie, as well as the Jacksons and Palmers, spent time in the picturesque town of Portofino.

The group took Amadeus’ tender into the town to enjoy some retail therapy.

On Instagram Magic Johnson said that Portofino was his “favourite place in the world” to go shopping. It is not hard to see why as the small city has a seemingly endless supply of shops along its beautiful waterfront.

Cannes, France

Magic Jackson’s non-stop tour of the Mediterranean then headed on to the delights of the French Riviera. The couple dropped anchor outside Cannes and, as well as doing some more shopping and sightseeing, also managed to watch a firework display from their yacht.

A host of famous faces descend on Cannes every May for the Film Festival and the celebrity yacht parties that run alongside it. However, the resort town maintains its draw throughout the summer by boasting some of the world’s best restaurants and boutique shopping.

Antibes, France

While enjoying his luxury yacht charter in the French Riviera Magic Johnson also visited Antibes. While there he spent time hanging out backstage at Lionel Richie’s concert and even met Prince Albert of Monaco.

Johnson also made time to visit his “favourite restaurant” — Le Michelangelo. The Italian restaurant is described as the “kingdom” of its owner Mamo who meticulously oversees every aspect. The celebrity haunt is famous for its risottos and truffle pizza.

Monaco, France

No trip to the French Riviera is complete without spending some time docked in Port Hercules, Monaco. Monaco is arguably the world’s most famous destination for a luxury yacht charter. During the summer months Port Hercules is the best place to spot celebrities on superyachts and arguably no marina epitomises the yachting lifestyle more.

While in Monaco, Magic and Samuel spent some time with Lewis Hamilton. The Formula One driver is a fan of superyachts and has previous chartered celebrity favourite Axioma .

Samuel L. Jackson Has an Annual Yacht Vacation with Magic Johnson — and Jimmy Kimmel Wants In!

Samuel L. Jackson and Magic Johnson might have a special guest aboard their next yachting vacation if Jimmy Kimmel gets his way.

On Monday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! , Jackson, 73, chatted with the host about his annual luxury boat trip with Johnson — Kimmel joking of the 2022 excursion, "It seems my invitation has been lost at sea, because Magic has not followed up. He said this might be the year!"

"He told me there were some new surprise people [going] — oh, my bad," the Pulp Fiction actor quipped, jokingly putting his hand over his mouth.

"Yeah, that surprise person's not me. There may be surprises, but I'm not one of 'em," said Kimmel, 54.

Jackson's upcoming trip with Johnson, 62, comes after he and wife LaTanya Richardson Jackson accompanied the basketball legend, his wife Cookie , LL Cool J , his wife Simone Smith and more in 2021. They sailed from Greece to Italy aboard a yacht , visiting several locations in the country including Capri, Sorrento and Sardinia.

"If it were up to me ... " Jackson told Kimmel of this year's trip, before the host replied, "Are you telling me Magic is the guy that I have to convince?"

"Yeah, because the boat you wanna get on is, like, his boat," said the Academy Award nominee.

And while there have "been years when" Jackson "was on that boat between four and six weeks," he usually only goes for about two weeks now.

"I just rent another boat so my daughter and her friends can kick it in the summer," Jackson told Kimmel. "So I'm not always there the whole time [on Johnson's yacht], so there is room for you."

LL Cool J, 54, previously posted a video to Instagram showing off the exterior of the massive yacht the couples were traveling on last year.

The bottom of the ship was open, as crew appeared to be docking at Porto Cervo, Italy, and unloading kayaks and jet skis for them to enjoy.

The 281-foot Aquila yacht is the largest yacht to be built in the U.S. since the 1930s, according to Burgess , which specializes in the buying and selling of luxury boats. The Aquila charters at a rate of around $1 million per week.

In addition to seven guest suites, the superyacht also features two massage rooms, a hair salon, a gym and a full bar. The dedicated party deck includes a DJ booth, AV system, smoke machine and a light show.

So, it's no surprise that when he takes a holiday he goes away on a $138m superyacht - that is available to hire for an eye-watering $1m-a-WEEK.

The LA Lakers legend spends his summers enjoying exotic coastlines on board the incredible Aquila.

Johnson, 63, took the vessel on his summer holidays in 2022, where he took in the sights of Greece.

Size matters.

The Aquila is huge.

At 281-feet long, it's the largest yacht to be built in America since the 1930s - and no expense was spared in turning it into a 'party boat'.

After all, the sun deck boasts a spacious jacuzzi, a day bar, as well as a massage room.

But there's also room for a DJ - with a booth, an AV system, smoke machine and light show ready to use - yes, it's a superyacht with its own nightclub.

Up to 12 guests can stay at one time - with the Aquila able to be manned by a 28-strong crew.

From a design aspect, the most surreal and aesthetically pleasing feature of the Aquila is a waterfall chandelier that drops down four levels from the sun deck down to the lower deck - that just adds to the yacht's opulence.

Another cool addition is the outstanding cinema room that features an enormous 85-inch screen.

The master cabin, or as it is known as the 'owner's deck', features his/hers ensuite and a study, as well as a salon.

There are a further six cabins that all offer space and comfort to the highest specification.

On top of that, guests can work out in the Aquila's fully-equipped gym.

FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES

In 2021, Magic was joined by a host of pals, including LL Cool J and Steve Harvey for a trip of a lifetime - a cruise around the Amalfi coast.

Before that, he's been seen visiting jet-set destinations as glam as Corsica, Cannes, Sorrento and Monaco.
