What are the nicer restaurants in town. Located right next to the cruise ship terminal. Great place to visit after a day in the city. Prices are reasonable and the service is good.
Outside from the ship.
our favorite in Largs. lucky to I've in the Marina. Service can be spotty, food always good
we had an awful experience here. Everybody complained about the quality and portion sizes of the food. the staff treated the booking like cattle and the entire experience would do well to aim for mediocrity. i would not recommend it all.
Believe me, 9 times out of 10 when you approach Scott's you're being blown about with a chilly wind so it's good to step into a warm and fancy environment. The decor is lovely and if you're not seated in the open and bright space with views of the marina you'll be equally happy in a cosy booth. The staff are usually very polite and helpful. The menu has a great choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner with good value pre-theatre deals and the food is tasty (I recommend the braised steak). The only weird thing that's happened in the past is that they had no pancakes when half the breakfast menu has them in a lot of the dishes. Do you think they were out of eggs, flour and milk too??
The former Nardinis at the Yacht Haven is now Scotts, a superb interior creates a a homely relaxing yet modern eating environment. Perfect stop for lunch or as was the case with myself, breakfast. The breakfast itself was a traditional Scottish breakfast which came on quite a large plate which consisted of copious amounts of the standard produce, bacon, sausages, eggs. The staff were accommodating enough to change swap over some ingredients for double of others. the service was top quality and very friendly and the selection of breakfast and lunches on the menu extensive. The only criticism I have was the sausages were quite bland and the butter melted quite quickly due to a hot plate, otherwise I must heartily recommend Scotts for anyone passing through the Largs area.
Beautiful location at the marina in Largs. I had the pork belly for an entree. Highly recommend. The sticky toffee pudding was the best I've ever had.
We had a great dinner at Scott's. We had a short wait at the bar and then were shown to our booth. The atmosphere is relaxing, the food was outstanding, and the service matched the rest of our dining experience. We highly recommend this restaurant at the marina in Largs. But make a reservation if you don't want to wait. The place is often very busy.
The food is always great and the staff are always friendly. It can get a bit busy sometimes, but that is the sign of its popularity.

J/70s in Moscow – is this the sailing video of the century?
This unusual take on J/70 racing in Moscow comes from film-maker Eugenia Bakunova and is entered into the Mirabaud Sailing Video competition.
This year the competition is open to any professional video under 3 minutes shot since 2000.
‘Mysterious metamorphoses’ was shot in July 2020, showing the J/70 ProYachting Tuesday Night Races, 10km from the Kremlin.
Eugenia says: “Sometimes it is enough to change the angle and all around magically turns. The golden curtain is opening. The ordinary boats are melting leaving the space for mysterious insects and butterflies appearing on the scene. They move graciously over slowly reflecting in the surface. Nothing exists more, just their black silhouettes sliding over the water. Welcome to sailing psychedelia.”

CONNECT WITH LARGS
Ayrshire Connect
The picturesque, popular seaside town of Largs is situated on the North Ayrshire coast, with a sandy beach at the South end of the town and Largs Bay (featuring the Pier and Ferry Terminal), situated in the centre. It’s just under an hour’s drive from Glasgow, with Edinburgh being reached within a further half hour drive.
Driving to Largs itself couldn’t be easier, from Glasgow via the M8 and A737, or a more coastal route via the M8 and through Greenock, then southbound on the A78. If you are travelling from the South, again the A78 northbound provides easy access. If you are travelling by train there is an hourly service, to and from Glasgow Central, which offers links to nearby airports, Edinburgh the capital, other mainline stations in Scotland and also to London and the south. With both Glasgow Airport and Glasgow Prestwick airport, each less than an hour’s drive or rail link away, Largs is easy to access for that short weekend trip.
Overlooking the Isle of Cumbrae, with further views towards the Isle of Bute, Largs’ westerly island views are in direct contrast to the views of the hills to the East of the town, which are extremely popular with hill walkers. A truly picturesque location, jam packed with activities and amenities for all visitors.
For the sailing enthusiasts, the award-winning Largs Yacht Haven, is situated at the South end of the town. The Yacht Haven is adjacent to “The Pencil”, monument of The Battle of Largs which commemorates the battle between the Scots and the Vikings in 1263. Nestled in the hills, Sport Scotland National Sports Centre, is the UK’s first inclusive residential sports facility, which caters for elite athletes, visitors and the local community, offering a wide range of sports and activities. The Caledonian MacBrayne ferry terminal at Largs Pier provides numerous daily sailings to the Isle of Cumbrae. You can also hire a bicycle in Millport, as there’s nothing quite like a cycle around the island.
Largs itself boasts numerous award-winning cafes, bars and restaurants, a variety of independent shops and a weekly market in Gallowgate Square, abound with fresh produce supplied by local businesses.
Kelburn Castle, home of the current Earl of Glasgow, is situated on the outskirts of the South of the town. The castle itself dates back to the 13th century and within the grounds is one of the largest equestrian centres in the West of Scotland, offering riding lessons and various livery packages. Kelburn Estate, with its Enchanted Forest, also hosts regular events throughout the year. So, for a day out, a mid-week or weekend break, or even a more prolonged visit, there’s something for everyone in Largs.
Apart from its plethora of sporting venues (including the National Sports Centre, Largs Yacht Haven, Routenburn and Kelburn Golf Courses, numerous bowling greens and tennis courts), Largs is probably most famous for its Promenade. Stretching the length of the town, it provides a scenic walkway for all fresh air enthusiasts. You can stroll for miles, relax and take in the views, or go at a faster pace and even train for marathons, as many people do. There is also a cycle path for those who prefer to travel on wheels.
Vikingar, the award-winning centre adjacent to the Promenade, is home to the Viking Experience, swimming pool and gym facilities. Included in this venue is the Barrfield’s Theatre which hosts productions throughout the year; from the annual pantomime to local drama group’s productions, local youth groups, dance shows and other award-winning shows, including musicals. Many famous actors and musicians have trodden the boards at Barrfield’s during their career.
For the food and drink enthusiasts, Largs is home to numerous award-winning cafes, bars, and restaurants. And for those who like to shop, there is a wealth of independent stores spread throughout the town.
The world re-known Viking Festival takes place every year during late August/early September, featuring a Battle re-enactment, parades, the Viking Village and various historical and musical events over 10 days. This family festival is not to be missed. The town is also well known for its 'Largs Live' event held over a 3-day period at the end of June, with live bands playing day and night throughout local bars and restaurants, attracting visitors from all over the UK and making this an annual 'pilgrimage' for music lovers. With theatre productions, concerts and numerous other sporting events throughout the year, you can visit us anytime and always find something to do. With many of the hotels offering out of season breaks, Largs is truly an all-year-round destination.

Saturday 24 th however brought a few hours respite from the strong winds and even some sunshine and rainbows creating exciting racing for the 106 entrants of the event. With a unique mix of keelboat and dinghy racing on 2 race courses it is always a spectacular sight from the shore.
Fresh westerly winds took the keelboat fleet north of Great Cumbrae with windward legs over to the Isle of Bute shore, allowing for 3 races for some classes until a viscious rain squall came through leading to all racing being abandoned. In IRC class 1 Sapphire (Euan Morrison) claimed the winning spot as well as the overall Keelboat Championship trophy, closely fought with Murray Findlay’s Xaviera. The keenness of the RC35 class starts led to 2 general recalls and a black flag, with John Stanley White’s Blue Jay narrowly taking class honours over Ben and Jono Shelley’s Mocking J.
6 Etchells braved the weather to come down river from Royal Gourock Yacht Club. Exciting racing was had by all but he clear winner with 2 firsts and a second was Lock’nLoad sailed by Peter Judd.
The lead changed in each race of the CYCA 3 class with Keith Orr’s Prodigal narrowly winning overall by one point from Jack Meredith’s Swan, Reindeer. In CYCA class 4 the smallest boat in the fleet, Mark Bradshaw’s Squib, Magic Flute, toughed out the blustery conditions to win in both races securing the overall win.
Ian MacDonald’s Sunfast 37, Artemis, won in the only race for CYCA Class 5 (restricted sail) as did James Jamieson’s Clancy in CYCA Class 7 (restricted sail)
With only one entrant in CYCA Class 6 (multihulls), Brian Young’s Excalibur was sent on a course circumnavigating The Isle of Bute covering the 40 mile track in 3.5 hours.
The dinghy fleet raced in the flatter waters of the Largs Channel and completed 3 races before the big squall put an end to all racing. The fast handicap fleet was dominated by LSC’s Phil and Carol Alderson in their Cherub, Zero Gravitas with 2 firsts and a fourth however in the slow handicap class the clear winner was Ruraidh Herrington in his Laser with 3 firsts, which also was enough to take the overall Dinghy Trophy. The catamaran class was depleted with the weather conditions allowing brothers David and Ian Kent to win their class with 3 first places. Leading Topper sailor was Rohan O’Kane with 2 firsts.
Weather conditions on Sunday 25 th led to all racing being cancelled and an early prizegiving being held in Largs Sailing Club. Huge thanks are due to our main sponsor, Saturn Sails, who have their sail loft based at Largs Yacht Haven, and who presented their very generous prizes to all class winners.
Racing continues mid week with an evening series culminating in the famous Scottish Two Handed Race around Arran or Holy Island on 1 September.
Thanks to the numerous volunteers ashore and afloat who braved the conditions to make the weekend happen.
