Plymouth Rib Charter

Plymouth enjoys a rich maritime history as befits a city built around a striking natural harbour. The harbour is interesting to explore by Rib, with Naval and commercial dockyards, several marinas, easy access to the city itself as well the magnificent cliffs and hills that surround it.

Ideal for exploration

A Plymouth Rib Charter or Bareboat Rib Charter (without a skipper), is ideal for exploration of the harbour and nearby coast, with other popular West Country Rib destinations such as Salcombe, Fowey and Falmouth within easy range.

Maritime events

Plymouth has played host to a number of major maritime events including The America's Cup in 2011 and more recently La Solitaire du Figaro in 2014. A number of translatic races and record attempts are hosted by the city which has a very active sailing community.

A particular feature of Plymouth is the scale and extent of Rib cruising to be found within the harbour itself and various tributaries, giving an excellent back up plan if seas are running too high for venturing around the coast.

There is insufficient demand for us to position Ribs in Plymouth permanently but we often have Ribs in Plymouth during the season and when we don't, we deliver to Plymouth charging no more than our direct costs. Typically we will operate out of Plymouth Yacht Haven , an excellent marina with no lock and well served by a good bistro.

About Plymouth

Why is Plymouth a good sailing destination?

The Adriatic Sea, a radiant jewel of Europe, has long been the muse of sailors, poets, and explorers. Its allure is undeniable, and with Yachting.Rent, we aim to unveil the reasons behind its magnetic pull as a premium sailing destination.

The Adriatic is a unique blend of history and untouched beauty. Spanning from the Venetian canals to the dramatic cliffs of Montenegro, it offers sailors a timeline of civilizations past. As you glide along its waters, you’ll encounter ancient towns that seem frozen in time, bearing Roman ruins, Byzantine churches, and Venetian fortresses. Each harbor and bay tells a story, providing an unparalleled journey through epochs and empires.

But history is just the beginning. The Adriatic’s natural beauty is breathtaking. Over a thousand islands dot its expanse, ranging from densely forested landscapes to secluded beaches only accessible by boat. These pockets of paradise, many untouched by modern tourism, offer sailors an exclusive experience of the Mediterranean’s pristine beauty. The sea itself, with its crystal-clear turquoise waters, is a dream for divers, swimmers, and marine enthusiasts. With the gentle Mediterranean climate ensuring balmy summers and mild winters, the Adriatic offers an extended sailing season compared to many other destinations.

Yachting.Rent recognizes that modern sailors seek more than just scenic views. The Adriatic delivers in culinary delights, vibrant festivals, and a rich tapestry of cultural experiences. From the seafood feasts of Dalmatia to the truffle-rich regions of Istria, your taste buds are in for a treat. The coastal towns, with their bustling markets, folk festivals, and local music, provide an authentic glimpse into the region’s living traditions.

In essence, the Adriatic Sea isn’t just a sailing destination; it’s a multi-sensory experience that enriches the soul. With Yachting.Rent, you’re assured not only a vessel to navigate its wonders but a trusted companion in your exploration. Come, unfurl your sails in the Adriatic’s embrace, and discover why it remains, decade after decade, a sailor’s dream destination.

Nautitech 44 Open (2024) 'SempreVerde'

Nautitech 44 open

The Nautitech 44 Open is the latest design in the Nautitech lineup to get really excited about!

This new design builds on the successful Nautitech ‘Open’ concept and so delivers a ‘wide grin’ sailing performance. The 44 Open is probably the fastest cruising catamaran available for a bareboat charter. She can point higher than any other cruising cat (that does not have daggerboards -which consume interior space), thanks to her high aspect sail plan, tight sheeting angles, high aspect rudders, a draft of 4ft 9“and an excellent sail area to displacement ratio. The Open 44 remains stable, comfortable, and downright fun to sail on and off the wind.

Optimized cruising speeds are a result of the low wetted surface area enabled by narrow, hydrodynamic hulls below the waterline. While the hard-chined stepped hulls above the waterline give more interior living space.

You have an unobstructed view of the sails and the sea thanks to the double aft helm station positions; you can communicate and enjoy the sailing with all the crew members in the cockpit.

In a change from the design of the Open 40, the lower mainsheet track positioning is easy to adjust and see for perfect sail trim from the helm station. A low boom above the coach roof allows for extra efficiency from the mainsail, more sail area and easy access to the sail bag. The high aspect furling, and self-tacking jib, with all control lines led aft to electric winches for both sails, means the 44 Open is a breeze to sail short-handed.

There is rich joinery in the interior of the 44 Open which gives a warm and modern ambience aboard. The cockpit flows seamlessly into the saloon (the ethos of the Open concept) giving you the ideal indoor/outdoor living space for a yacht in the tropics. The galley conjoins the saloon and cockpit, so matter where the crew are, the chef is part of the socialising. The interior saloon area is cosy and offers a modular seating arrangement with cushioned cubes that can be moved around into a day bed, a footrest, or stools.

With the almost 360-degree view from the entrance of the saloon, you can happily escape (rare!) inclement weather or socialize at the cockpit table whilst still keeping an eye on your surroundings.

Thanks to a double-drawer fridge, cockpit fridge and freezer unit, there is excellent fridge capacity aboard.

Both hulls feature 2 cabins. The aft cabin has a queen-sized island bed and the forward cabin has a forward-facing double bed.

The seamlessly integrated companionway benefits from extra storage lockers. Both hulls have separate shower units and toilets allowing for easy living between guests. The toilet unit also has its own hand basin.

There is an integrated solar array on the coach roof as well as solar panels mounted on the dinghy davits. This removes the requirement to run your engine or generator to charge the lithium batteries on board on sunny days.

Some defining features that set SempreVerde apart are:

  • Starlink High-Speed Internet which is included for all charters in 2024
  • Nespresso Original Line Machine (remember to bring your own Nespresso pods as these can be hard to source in the BVI)
  • Three B&G Chartplotters (one at each helm station and one at the nav desk)
  • Multiple 110V outlets
  • Large lithium battery bank and large solar array (essentially eliminating the need to charge batteries using engines or generator)
  • Fresh-water hot/cold deck shower
  • Fresh-water deck hose
  • Exterior window coverings to keep the interior cool
  • Two fully finished forepeak cabins with USB outlets and lighting
  • Mast camera to make mooring ball retrieval easier
  • Two VHF radios (one handheld)
  • Separate throttle controls at each helm station to make docking and close-quarters maneuvering a breeze

Andrea J Smith , May 2023, BVI Dear Horizon, Courtney, Sandra,  Henry, and Jalon, We can’t thank you enough for all you have done over the years to make this dream trip possible for us. Stan and I have been sailing the BVI since our honeymoon in 1986 and sailing with Horizon since 2000. Through the years we have sailed with our own children and this year also sailed with 3 generations to include our 3 and 4 year old granddaughters for a perfect week. We can always count on everyone at Horizon to take great care of us and we are so very grateful for this week where our lives came full circle and we were able to share this beautiful place with the 3rd generation of our family.

This means we can get you out sailing your first afternoon after your briefings – remember to watch your video briefings to speed up your check out! At the end of your trip, you sail back to Nanny Cay to refuel and debrief before your noon departure. This gives you a full 6 nights/7 days chartering around our beautiful islands, unlike some companies that start at 5pm, meaning you will have to sleepaboard* at the docks, and then finish at 10am, again meaning you will probably have to stay overnight on the docks the night before you leave to fly home.

*If available, a sleep aboard can be added the night before your charter start for a small supplement, boarding your yacht after 5pm.

Our standard charter rates are applicable for charters of 5 days or more up to a maximum of five weeks. For a tailored quote for charter durations outside this range please contact our reservations team who will be pleased to assits.

Current Rates

Weekly rates (full 7 days / 6 nights) are listed above as daily rates. Charters start and finish at noon. Our minimum charter duration requirement is 5 nights.

BVI Charter Rates are subject to change without notice.

Horizon Yacht Charters BVI Charter Rates are listed above. Yacht photographs and specifications act as a guide and are for information purposes only.  Although we endeavour to ensure that images are accurate reflections of the yachts in our fleet, certain aspects may vary slightly, such as yacht deck, the colour of the hull, dodger or bimini.

All yachts come with rigid inflatables & outboards, biminis, BBQ, Stereo, GPS, linens, towels, safety & galley equipment etc. See  What’s Included  for a full list.

C = Cabins, H = Heads, AC = Air Conditioning, S = Skipper first day only

*Additional $700 supplement per week applies from Dec 18 – Jan 4

May we advise that HDW insurance, Cruising Permits and National Parks Permit are payable before departure from the dock in cash or travellers’ cheques, as using a Credit Card will incur a 5% surcharge. Upon return of the vessel, you are required to top off the water and fuel tanks, which you receive full upon boarding the vessel.

BVI Charter Rates shown above are for 6 nights per vessel (min 5 nights except for Christmas and New Year min 7 nights + supplements on selected yachts) with the additional daily rate should you wish to add nights. BVI Charters start and finish at noon. Sleep-aboard (the option of staying on board your yacht at the dock) with the boarding of your vessel available after 5.00 pm, can sometimes be added to the start of your charter at an extra charge of $75.00 per head per night (minimum of $200.00 per night), depending upon yacht availability.

  • Hull Damage Waiver Insurance is compulsory for $60.00 (max $600) per day for Monohulls and $70.00 (max $700) per day for Catamarans. This limits your liability to the security deposit (either $2000 or $5000) per incident relating to the yacht and 3% of hull value per incident if in contravention of the Client Responsibility Agreement or the Charter Contract.

Super Size your Dinghy

Why not upgrade your yacht tender during your sailing vacation? Get the crew ashore in style and explore more with an upgraded tender. Only $300 per day. Find out more here .

Super Tender your Vacation with Horizon Yacht Charters!

plymouth bareboat yacht charter

Licensed for 6 persons, this 15ft RIB with 60HP Yamaha outboard will get you and your crew to snorkelling spots and the beach in style and comfort.

Make your charter yacht vacation a breeze – enjoy the comfort of being able to tie up your yacht for the night and then continue exploring the surrounding bays! You can pick up your mooring ball at the Bight and then head to the Indians or the Caves for a snorkel. If you visit the Dogs, there’s no need to choose only one snorkel spot for your lunch stop, zip around them all!  A swim ladder makes boarding easy from the water.

For popular spots where it’s trickier to find a mooring, the RIB is the perfect alternative. Settle into Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke for the night and then take the RIB to White Bay for the afternoon to enjoy painkillers without the hassle of finding a mooring ball or having to move your yacht for the night.

The North Sound boasts a selection of some of the best dining options in the BVI. There’s no need to settle for only one spot when you have the RIB. Pick up provisions from Leverick Bay, enjoy the plunge pool at Nova in Deep Bay, and then zip back to the sound for sundowners at Saba Rock before enjoying dinner at The Bitter End.

If you have a mix of snorkelers, beachgoers, shoppers and sailors onboard then give your group flexibility by taking the standard dinghy included in your charter as well. This will also remove the need to make multiple dinghy trips ashore for larger groups.

Get more out of your sailing vacation with Horizon- ‘Super Tender’ it!

Please note that the Super Tender is towed as it is too large for davits and tenderlifts. You can choose to take your 10ft Rib as well on catamarans (stored on the davits or tenderlift), or leave it behind. On monohulls we recommend just taking the Super Tender.

Contact our reservations team for more information. Exclusively available only to Horizon Charter guests.

Bareboat Yacht Charters

Waypoints Bareboat Yacht Charters

What is a bareboat yacht charter .

With a bareboat charter, you control your trip and sail yourself to destinations of your choosing. Set your own itinerary and wake up with a new view on the water each day. Bareboat charters can be done with monohulls, catamarans, power boats, and power catamarans all around the world. The options are limitless.

A man and woman at the helm of a powerboat

How Do I Book a Charter?

There are so many companies and individuals offering charters around the world. Some are small “boutique” charter companies and some are the large charter yacht companies. Social media or personal references are great to help you find a bareboat charter company, but working with a charter broker who can be unbiased and has first hand experience and knowledge of what is out there is the best way to go.

Our Charter Specialists have over 15 years’ experience booking charters throughout the Caribbean and the USA and because of many satisfied customers, have been able to narrow down and work with the “best of the best” charter companies.

There are a Few Things That Will Help You in the Process:

  • Let us know exactly what you prefer. Because there are so many options out there, we will want to narrow down the field based on the time of year, number of passengers, the type of charter, and where you want to charter.
  • Sit back and relax, and let us do the homework and make the recommendations. Pictures you see on the internet are not always up to date. We have access to the latest information on crews and yachts.
  • Make a decision and put an Option on it. That way, we can lock it in before someone else charters it first. We will put the option on it and email you a charter agreement.
  • Make the Deposit. Typically, you have up to 7 days to make your deposit on your charter vacation. However, sometimes it’s in demand and your option can be challenged. If challenged, you may only have 24 hours to make your deposit or you will have to release the option. Deposits are 50% of the charter fee if deposited less than 1 year from departure. If you book further in advance, a 25% deposit is normally made with the next 25% due 6 months from departure. The final balance is due 60 days in advance.

The Bareboat Charter | Everything You Need to Know

sailboat under ravenel bridge charleston sc

When planning a maritime adventure, understanding the different options available for boat rentals is crucial. A popular choice among seasoned sailors and those seeking a more hands-on experience is the “bareboat charter.”

Unlike traditional charters that come with a crew and captain, a bareboat yacht charter offers you the helm, presenting a unique blend of challenge and privacy. While a captain and crew can always be hired seperately, it is optional.

What is a Bareboat Charter?

A bareboat charter allows you to rent a boat without the inclusion of a crew or captain. This means you are responsible for the navigation, safety, and management of the vessel throughout the duration of your trip. This type of charter is ideal for those with a sufficient level of sailing proficiency and those who prefer a self-guided maritime adventure. It’s essential to have at least one licensed sailor on board, capable of handling the vessel in various conditions.

bareboat charter charleston sc

Bareboat Charters vs. Crewed Charters

While a bareboat rental gives you autonomy, crewed charters offer a worry-free experience with a professional crew managing all aspects of the voyage. Crewed charters are perfect for those who desire a relaxing trip where meals, route planning, and boat handling are taken care of by seasoned professionals.

Things to Know as the Charterer

As the charterer there are a few things you should know about bareboat charters. Bareboat charters only allow up to 12 guests onboard within the party. However, the vessel you choose may have its own maximum allowed onboard which may inhibit you from your group size. Unlike crewed charters, you take on the full responsibility of the vessel, including the insurance policy. You also have the right to captain and crew the vessel for yourself. Most bareboat rental companies will require a minimum amount of experience or license requirements though. You have the right to hire a local captain and crew to assist you with your bareboat charter and they are to be paid separately from the boat rental. Furthermore, you have the right to relieve your hired captain and crew at any point if you deem necessary.

Things to Know as the Boat Owner

While many of the points that apply to the charterer should also be considered for the boat owner, there are a few things you should know when considering bareboat charters for your vessel. Be completely sure that your current insurance policy allows for bareboat charters. Some insurance companies do not offer coverage for bareboat charters so this is something to consider. A bareboat contract must be signed by the charterer and a copy should be on hand during the charter at all times. Also, if a local captain and crew were hired to assist the charterer, then a list with clear instructions stating the charterer has options for crew, as well as the right to dismiss them at any point in time should be present. While an electronic version will suffice, a paper version is preferred by some USCG officials and well advised to have on hand to avoid any issues. Furthermore, as the boat owner, you must hand over the vessel in well maintained condition fit for use by the charterer, you are only allowed to collect payment for the boat rental, and cannot be present/onboard for the bareboat charter.

Safety considerations

The Hirer will be responsible for the safety of their passengers and will always need to be respectful of the conditions and always helm with caution throughout the hire period. Due to the nature of rib rides it will not be suitable for those who are not in good health and have neck, back, knee, hip, ankle, foot problems or those who are pregnant. Shock loads from rib rides could make existing health problems worse.

Ribs are not suitable for those who have consumed alcohol or taken intoxicating drugs.

The Kill cord must be always worn.

All our boats are supplied fully fuelled at the start of each charter. On return the hirer has the option to return the boat full of fuel, only using designated fuelling barges as highlighted by Plymouth Marine and they will not be billed for fuel. Or, if they would prefer, they can return the boat without re-fuelling and Plymouth Marine will charge for the fuel used.
