At the top end of the Large Jet market, a 2024-model Gulfstream G700 costs US$80.0m, per Aircraft Bluebook’s Summer 2024 data, whereas a 2023-model single-engine Cirrus SF50 Gen 2+ VisionJet in the Very Light Jet category costs US$3.5m. On the used aircraft market, there are various examples of older jets having depreciated to below $2m, and even less than $1m following several years of depreciation.

There are 24,270 private jets in operation worldwide (JETNET, July 2024). Approximately 63% of the world’s private jets are registered in the United States.

Are private jets more efficient than the airlines?

Private jets access around 10 times more airports in the US than scheduled airlines (around 5000 airports versus 500 airports) giving them access to remote communities without airline service. Moreover, 38% of Business Aviation missions involve stopping at more than one destination, according to NBAA.

5 Aerotrader.com

This website, which has official recognition from multiple aircraft manufacturers, consistently offers buyers hundreds of different listings to choose from. Aerotrader specializes in recreational aircraft, with a variety of single-engined turboprops appearing on the front of the website.

However, after some brief investigation, some older heritage aircraft can be found, such as a 1955 Douglas AD-5 currently on sale for $1.1 million. Additionally, the website has an exciting selection of helicopters to take a look at as well.

The website's interface is relatively user-friendly and allows one to filter by year, make, and price directly from the home page. Aerotrader will also filter for aircraft closest to you, which is a nice touch if you aren't looking for something too far away.

4 Boutsen Aviation

Boutsen Aviation sits on the far opposite end of the spectrum as Aerotrader, with a focus on high-end corporate and executive customers looking for long-range private jets. While one can find some turboprops and helicopters on the broker's online site, Boutsen primarily focuses on larger jets such as the Dassault Falcon 7X or the Gulfstream G450.

You can even find some VIP-configured versions of traditional passenger aircraft on the site, such as an Airbus A318. The site also indicates that the firm recently sold an executive version of an Airbus A340.

Boutsen is also well-known for the quality of its aircraft and its service, with the firm even receiving a unique distinction from the Prince of Monaco, which the company is quick to brag about on its website. Overall, the user interface is easy to use, although prices aren't explicitly shown online.

3 GlobalAir.com

This site can prove most useful for searching for a good deal, as it shows online listings from many different sellers. Much like Boutsen, the majority of aircraft available on this site are the stereotypical private jets, and featured listings include a Gulfstream V and a Gulfstream G650ER.

The site includes some unique fixtures, such as directly providing an aircraft's total flight hours on the listing. Additionally, the site will not only allow you to filter by geographic location but also by age, make, and model. The website provides easy access to seller and aircraft reviews and ratings. The aircraft also has some heritage listings on its site, including a 1941 Stearman PT-17 currently listed for $132,000.

GlobalAir has been active since 1995 and has connected buyers to shows, sellers, and other events throughout its existence. Uniquely, the website not only sells aircraft but also directs interested customers towards airshows where they can see their potential purchases on display.

2 Trade-A-Plane.com

This website comes off as the polar opposite of Boutsen Aviation, removing the exclusivity of purchasing a private aircraft and attempting to directly connect buyers and sellers as efficiently as possible. The website, as its name implies, provides a platform for those interested in purchasing or selling an aircraft to connect with each other.

Smaller turboprop aircraft make up the bulk of Trade-A-Plane listings, including a Piper J-3 Cub and an Aviat Husky A-1C. Most aircraft on the website's main page are newer, including a few 2023 models. However, the site does have a substantial selection of used turboprops if that's what you are interested in. Trade-A-Plane also maintains a very user-friendly interface, which can easily filter for a variety of characteristics, including aircraft condition.

This company has been selling private jets for over 60 years and emphasizes its reputation for transparency, reliability, and quality. Like Boutsen, the website primarily features traditional turbofan-driven private jets. Some listings on the site include Bombardier Challenger 604 and Gulfstream G550 business jets, among similar aircraft.

Furthermore, the website is easy to use, and one can search the company's entire inventory within just a few seconds. Airbus ACJ220

The ACJ220 – which Airbus is marketing as the “TwoTwenty” – is based on the A220 commercial jet, a groundbreaking, smaller commercial plane design that Airbus acquired from Canada’s Bombardier. And this new model might just represent the perfect sweet spot between large-cabin luxury and smaller jet economics. According to Airbus, “the A220 Family is the quietest, cleanest and most eco-friendly aircraft in its category, featuring a 50 per cent reduced noise footprint compared to previous generation aircraft, and up to 25 per cent lower fuel burn.” It also has long legs. With a roughly 10,500-kilometre range, London to Los Angeles will be no issue for this aircraft. It has 73 square metres of space, so you can have up to six living areas in a VIP configuration, with room for up to 18 passengers to work, relax and dine. Available from early 2023.

Dassault Falcon 10X

Arguably the most highly anticipated aircraft is the newly announced Dassault Falcon 10X. A 13,800-kilometre range means that, for those who’ve always wanted a Falcon but needed the reach that Gulfstream and Bombardier provided in their most capable jets, the French jet is now a viable option. Meanwhile, with a cabin width of 2.7 metres, the 10X bests its two rivals by about 30 centimetres. The cabin height, also the tallest among its rivals at two metres, will allow the majority of its passengers to stand up in comfort while on board. And the cabin can be divided into four living and working areas, with an infinitely customizable layout. Dassault says it’s designed to be more “yacht-like” than other business jets, in response to a growing demand for comfort among its clientele. And for staying refreshed, the cabin altitude can be set to 900 metres while cruising up at 12,500 metres. 

Even as a large jet that can fly halfway across the world, the 10X still retains the Falcon’s signature short-runway capabilities with carbon-fibre wings that allow for landings on strips as short as 750 metres. It also has an industry-first “automatic upset recovery mode”, a feature brought directly from the latest Rafale fighter jets. Available from late 2025.

Boeing 777X BBJ

There’s no denying the wide-body Boeing 777 is one of the finest aircraft ever built. Now the upgraded, even-bigger and more capable 777X is on the way. Though most will end up as commercial aircraft, the Boeing Business Jets team will gladly kit one out as a private aircraft. And though there are larger aircraft, they are on their way out, and the 777X will represent the flagship long-haul offering from Boeing in the near future. In an executive configuration, it will represent the ultimate in long-range capability and comfort.

Need to fly up to 21,000 kilometres in one go, so you’re connected to just about any pair of cities imaginable around the world? Done. Sydney to London will be no problem in this plane. A cabin that’s six metres wide and nearly 2.5 metres tall? Check. In fact, with over 275 square metres of floor area, there won’t be any shortage of space, so bringing the entire team along won’t be any issue. With this much space,  the possibilities are endless. And that’s good thing, considering it could fly for upwards of 24 hours in one go. Entry into service late 2023.

Gulfstream G700

You can’t go wrong with a Gulfstream – its planes just keep getting better. And its latest long-range claims to offer an unparalleled travel experience. “The G700 was designed for customers to extend their ground-based lifestyle to the air in up to five living areas [...] and fly farther and faster than any other business jet in its class," says Jeannine Haas, senior vice president at Gulfstream. It's true, the G700 will be able to fly almost 14,000 kilometres in one go which is enough to connect most pairs of cities non-stop. And it can fly at up to Mach 0.925, or over 1,100km/h, nearing the speed of sound – at an altitude of more than 15,000 metres. 

Most appealing, though, are the cabin offerings. The G700 will come with a highly configurable layout, so it can be made to seat up to 19 or sleep 13. On offer within the cabin is a galley with a three-metre countertop (the longest in the industry), an extra-large refrigerator and optimised storage while meals can be served at a six-place dining table. Onboard features geared toward wellness are, as ever, a focal point, and Gulfstream delivers with an all-new circadian lighting system, the industry's lowest cabin alitiude and "whisper-quiet sound levels allowing guests to arrive at their destination feeling more refreshed than when they departed. Available from late 2022.

HondaJet Elite S

Fly in on a HondaJet Elite S and you may turn some heads. Not least because of the uniquely placed engines, mounted on pylons atop the wings. The Elite S is the latest evolution of Honda’s compelling small jet, and it delivers incredible efficiency for what it’s capable of. It also boasts a remarkably pared-down flight deck, almost like stepping into a car (perhaps no surprise from Honda). It has a range of around 2,650 kilometres, can seat up to five and flies at up to 780km/h at 13,000 metres. With an increased maximum takeoff weight of 90kg, owners can now fly up to 120 nm further at a higher payload, or fly with an additional passenger in tow. And there’s also more cargo space, with up to 1.9 cubic metres for luggage in the rear of the aeroplane. There are little touches that appeal too, such as skylights in the lavatory and the ability to control the cabin ambience on your smartphone.

In the cockpit, new avionics features replace traditional voice commands with text-based messaging to improve the clarity and efficiency of communications. Combined with the newly introduced Advanced Steering Augmentation System, the Elite S further reduces pilot workload and maximizes safety. The Hondajet Elite S also offers several new styling options with exclusive paint schemes available in Gunmetal, Luxe Gold, and Deep Sea Blue. Available from 2022.

Bombardier Challenger 3500

The Challenger 3500 builds on the success of the highly-favoured Challenger 300 series aircraft. The jet is marketed as the best super mid-size business jet available offering best-in-class comfort and space with advanced aerodynamic design for the smoothest of rides - and Bombardier has already secured a $524 million order as demand soars. The "intelligent cabin" has been designed as an extension of a home or office - or even a yacht - with 24-inch 4k displays, wireless charging, charging, soft-close drawers and wine storage. All lighting, temperature and entertainment systems are voice-controlled and the cabin features a patented Nuage seat with a unique zero-gravity position - the first new seat architecture in business aviation in over 30 years. Ready to fly in under 7 minutes, with a range of 3,400nm, the jet can fly from Los Angeles to Honolulu or London to Dubai with full seats and full fuel, non-stop. Captain of Mike Lynch's yacht leaves Sicily on private jet

ROME (Reuters) - The captain of Mike Lynch's yacht flew out of Palermo on Thursday, 10 days after the British tech tycoon and six other people were killed when the vessel sank off the coast of Sicily.

James Cutfield left the Sicilian capital on a private jet, an investigative source said, adding the destination of the flight was unknown. Cutfield, a New Zealander, lives with his wife in Palma on the Spanish island of Mallorca.

Cutfield was put under investigation for manslaughter and shipwreck earlier this week and declined to answer questions from prosecutors on Tuesday.

Two other crew members were placed under investigation on Wednesday. Being investigated does not imply guilt and does not mean formal charges will follow.

Those facing investigation have no obligation to stay in Italy but have to nominate lawyers so that the authorities have a way of remaining in contact with them.

The British-flagged Bayesian, a 56-metre-long (184-foot) yacht, capsized and went down on Aug. 19 within minutes of being hit by a pre-dawn storm while anchored off northern Sicily.

The sinking has puzzled naval marine experts, who said a vessel like the Bayesian, built by Italian high-end yacht manufacturer Perini, should have withstood the storm and, in any case, should not have sunk as quickly as it did.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama ruffled a few feathers after she discussed her and Barack Obama 's wealth at the Democratic National Convention in August 2024.

After Michelle shared how her parents "didn't aspire to be wealthy," some social media users called her a hypocrite due to her and Barack's lavish homes.

How many homes do the Obamas own?

The Obamas own three homes: one in Kalorama, Wash., one in the historic Oak Bluffs in Martha's Vineyard, Mass., and one in Chicago's Kenwood suburbs. According to Celebrity Net Worth , they bought the Kalorama home for $8.1 million in 2019, followed by their $11.75 million Martha's Vineyard home in 2019. Jeff Bezos has reportedly bought a fourth private jet — and it carries a stratospheric price tag of $80 million.

The billionaire Amazon founder last month purchased a Gulfstream G700, luxury business jet manufactured by Gulfstream Aerospace that’s considered one of the largest and most advanced private jets in the world, according to Business Insider.

With a maximum range of around 7,500 nautical miles, the G700 is also said to be capable of reaching top speeds of Mach 0.925 — or around 92.5% of the speed of sound, around 710 m.p.h.

The G700 also boasts 20 panoramic windows and “whisper⁠-⁠quiet cabin with 100% fresh, plasma⁠-⁠ionized air replenished every two to three minutes.”

Last Sunday, the G700 took off from Ibiza.

At around the same time, Bezos and fiancée Lauren Sánchez were photographed on the island near the mogul’s $500 million superyacht.

Publicly available flight data showed that Bezos’ plane made 28 flights in 39 days — leaving a carbon footprint of 264 tons, or 17 times what the average American emits in a year, according to JetSpy .

Reps for Bezos have pointed to the face that he uses sustainable aviation fuel for his travels and pays for carbon offsets, which fund projects that reduce greenhouse gas pollution and cancel out carbon emissions generated by the trips on his planes and yachts.

Bezos apparently tried to keep his acquisition of the plane out of the public eye by using the Federal Aviation Administration’s program that allows jet owners to keep information about their aircraft private.

The FAA Privacy ICAO Aircraft Address (PIA) program allows aircraft owners to use temporary, randomized addresses that changes the aircraft’s identity numbers so as to make flights less traceable by the public.

News of Bezos’ latest purchase was also posted by Jack Sweeney, the Florida-based college student who drew the ire of Elon Musk and Taylor Swift for posting publicly available flight-tracking data about their private jets on his social media accounts.

The Post has sought comment from Amazon, where Bezos remains a board member. He stepped down as CEO in July 2021.

He was succeeded by the current boss, Andy Jassy.

Bezos is also said to own two other predecessor models of the G700 — the Gulfstream G650 and a Pilatus PC-24.

As of Wednesday, Bezos’ net worth was valued by Bloomberg Billionaires Index at $203 billion — making him the second richest person in the world behind Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

In March of last year, it was reported that Goldman Sachs abandoned plans to buy the G700 , which comes equipped with a private shower, as part of a cost-cutting measure.

Rare Luxury: 5 Private Jets You Might Not Have Heard Of

W hen it comes to private jets , several names immediately come to mind, such as Learjet, Gulfstream, and Bombardier. However, they are far from the only manufacturers to design and produce private and business jets. Other companies worldwide have also dabbled in the sector, with varying degrees of success. Some of the most interesting examples include a homebuilt jet and a record-setting jet that took twenty-five years from its first flight to its first delivery.

Eclipse 500

One of the earliest aircraft in the Very Light Jet category, the Eclipse 500, first flew in 2002. It was initially designed with Williams EJ22 engines. However, they proved insufficient as the aircraft's weight increased, and they were replaced by Pratt & Whitney Canada PW610F engines, significantly delaying development. The first aircraft was delivered in December 2006, and a total of 260 were completed before the type ceased production two years later.

The aircraft can operate from paved, grass, or dirt runways and fly up to 1,295 miles. The cabin features four leather seats for passengers and wood trim. It notably lacks a lavatory, which was justified based on the type's primary usage as an air taxi on short trips.

Viper Aircraft ViperJet

One of the rarest private jets was not even delivered fully built. The ViperJet is a homebuilt personal jet that was delivered as a kit and took between 3,000 and 3,500 hours to complete. It resembles a fighter jet with its low wing and tandem seating arrangement. The jet intakes are placed on the side of the aircraft, and the engines provide a maximum speed of 525 miles per hour. It is notoriously fuel-intensive and has a range of just under one thousand miles.

Flying the aircraft requires a Viper Jet Type rating or Letter of Authorization, and few completed models exist. Out of approximately 20 kits sold by the manufacturer before it ceased production, only seven have been certified by the FAA.

Pilatus PC-24

Swiss aircraft manufacturer Pilatus offers a unique private jet. The Pilatus PC-24 can carry up to ten passengers and notably features a pallet-sized cargo door as standard. The aircraft has an operating range of 1,800 NM and a cruise speed of 440 knots and is designed to operate globally in less-than-ideal conditions. The PC-24 can take off and land in under 3,000 feet on both paved and unpaved surfaces, increasing its versatility.

In addition to the cargo and passenger doors, it also features two overwing emergency exits. It is increasingly popular as a medical evacuation aircraft due to the easy access and flexibility of landing on grass and gravel runways and its ability to be flown by a single pilot.

SyberJet SJ30

This American private jet has existed in several iterations over the years. It was initially intended to be manufactured and sold as the Gulfstream Gulfjet; the aircraft first flew in 1991 and was shown at that year's Paris Air Show. It would be over twenty years before the first jet was delivered to customers. Following several design changes and transfers of company ownership, the SyberJet SJ30 finally received FAA certification on October 27, 2005, and the first production version was delivered the following year.

Notable features include its fighter jet stance due to the positioning of its landing gear and the dual wheels. It is also known for its "sea-level cabin altitude," which maintains up to 41,000 feet. The aircraft has gone on to set several world records, including:

Embraer Lineage 1000

Only 28 of these large buisness jets were ever delivered. The long-range aircraft was based on the manufacturer's E-190 regional jet and seats up to 19 passengers. The aircraft's interior features five distinct sections, including a walk-in cargo area at the rear. Flying at speeds of up to Mach 0.82, the newest version of the aircraft has a range of 4,600 NM, allowing it to fly much further than many other private jets.

The first Lineage Embraer Lineage 1000 was delivered in May of 2009 and continued to be produced for over a decade. An upgraded version, the Lineage 1000E, was introduced in the fall of 2013, bringing upgraded cockpit options and an improved inflight entertainment system. The last aircraft was delivered by Embraer in 2017, and the manufacturer announced that it was ending sales of the type in August 2020.

Jeff Bezos' fanciest toys, from a superyacht to the newest Gulfstream jet

Jeff Bezos has become one of the world's richest people , so it's no surprise that he's purchased lots of expensive toys, from a megayacht to houses on a private island in Florida.

Bezos has a net worth of $192.3 billion and is currently the second-richest person in the world, according to Forbes .

Bezos has invested some of the money that he's made since founding Amazon in 1994 into other businesses. He founded rocket and aerospace company Blue Origin in 2000, for instance. And in 2013, he acquired The Washington Post. This year, he also sold some of his Amazon shares to fund Day 1 Academies , a chain of nonprofit preschools that he founded.

But Bezos has also spent hundreds of millions on planes, a yacht, houses, and other property. A representative for Bezos didn't respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

One of Bezos' newest acquisitions seems to be a Gulfstream G700.

Bezos's newest private jet appears to be a Gulfstream G700, according to data from JetSpy. The Amazon founder likely took possession of the plane in July, flight data shows.

The G700 just got approval to fly from the FAA in March and is worth around $80 million, BI previously reported.

The Gulfstream would be Bezos' fourth jet.

The G700 is the latest private jet purchased by Bezo, who has collected multiple private planes over the years.

He previously purchased two Gulfstream G650ERs as well as a Pilatus PC-24, BI reported. With the addition of the G700, Bezo's aircraft are now collectively worth more than $200 million.

Through the same LLC that his two G650ERs are registered to, Bezos has also owned a hangar in Seattle since 2015.

Bezos also has a megayacht called Koru.

Koru , a 127-meter yacht, made her debut in 2023 with a trek around the Mediterranean. The vessel cost about $500 million and includes the Abeona, a support vessel, BI previously reported.

The yacht has hosted celebrities from Bill Gates to Leonardo DiCaprio . Bezos and fianc ée Lauren Sánchez also had their engagement party aboard Koru last year.

Bezos recently bought three mansions on an exclusive island off of Miami.

Over the past year, Bezos has acquired three homes in Indian Creek Village , an island off of Miami known for its lux residences. Other notable property owners there include Tom Brady and Carl Icahn.

Bezos has spent $237 million between the three properties.

He also owns property in the nation's capital.

In 2016, two years before Amazon announced that it was building its HQ2 in Arlington, Virginia, then-Amazon CEO Bezos paid $23 million for a compound across the river in Washington, D.C.

Bezos then spent another $12 million renovating the two-structure property, which previously hosted a textile museum. The property features a ballroom, 11 bedrooms, and 25 bathrooms, BI reported in 2018.

The mansions are just a few properties amongst Bezos' extensive real estate holdings.

The Amazon co-founder owns properties in his company's hometown, including a lakeside compound with a private shoreline, boathouse, and a waterslide.

But his real estate holdings extend far beyond the Pacific Northwest.

In West Texas, Bezos acquired the Figure 2 Ranch, a 30,000-acre property, in 2004, Architectural Digest reported in May. The ranch plays host to Blue Origin.

Bezos' other holdings include homes in Beverly Hills and luxury apartments in Manhattan, according to Architectural Digest.

Captain of Mike Lynch’s yacht departs Sicily by private jet

Mike Lynch and six others were killed 10 days ago when his yacht sank near the coast of Sicily. The captain of the yacht, Mike Lynch, flew out from Palermo.

James Cutfield, a New Zealander, left the capital of Sicily on a private plane, according to a source in the investigation. The destination was not revealed. Cutfield, who is a New Zealander and lives in Palma, on the Spanish island Mallorca, with his wife, was reported to have left Sicilian capital aboard a private jet. The destination of the flight, however, remains unknown.

Cutfield, who was placed under investigation earlier this week for manslaughter as well as shipwreck, refused to answer any questions from prosecutors.

On Wednesday, two other crew members came under investigation. Investigation does not necessarily imply guilt or that formal charges will be filed.

The investigation is not a requirement for those facing it, but they must nominate an attorney so the authorities can stay in touch with them.

The British-flagged Bayesian (a 56-metre long (184-foot-long) yacht), capsized and went under on August 19 minutes after being hit by an early morning storm off the northern coast of Sicily.

Experts in naval marine have been puzzled by the sinking. They said that a vessel such as the Bayesian built by Italian luxury yacht builder Perini should have survived the storm, and should, in any event, not have sunk so quickly.
