From its shabby beginning at a rickety boathouse dock, Seattle Yacht Club has prevailed over the rough seas of wars and endured the battering winds of economic storms. Along the way, the Club has adapted to our changing culture over the decades and centuries. Today, at 126 years old and housed in its elegant Mainstation on Portage Bay, the Club is one of the premier yachting organizations in the world. Its Clubhouse and moorings, 10 Outstations, services, and social activities are second to none, and its financial position is strong. SYC is one of Washington State's oldest and most enduring institutions and in 2010, the National Register of Historical Places listed the SYC Mainstation as a historic resource.

Membership has grown from the original 250 "yachting gentlemen" in 1892 to nearly 5,000 boaters in 2018. The Seattle Yacht Club burgee is recognized around the world because of the Club's continuing contributions to the maritime community, its record of competitive success, and its collaboration in local and international yachting organizations. SYC has been founding members of the Northwest International Yachting Association, the Pacific International Yachting Association, the International Powerboat Association, the International Council of Yacht Clubs and maintains reciprocity with more than 225 other boating groups around the world.

Accomplished boaters, both sailors and powerboaters, have won hundreds of championships and awards, including Olympic medals. The Club hosts a world-class junior sailing program, which has given a start to numerous generations of Northwest sailors. Members come from every socioeconomic background and the SYC Foundation provides funding for youth sailing classes and community boating projects.

The Portage Bay Mainstation buzzes with activity most days of the year. From its beginning, it's where members have celebrated their boating life and community. Today, the Club calendar records weddings, life celebrations, sail and powerboat events, family picnics, holiday parties, and committee meetings. It hosts Women's Group activities, Men's Lunches, Junior Group activities, gourmet quality dinners, sailing classes and more. Boating and the love of being on the water are the center of every activity, including community service. Opening Day, the Club's annual spring celebration, is the region's premier on-the-water party. The internationally known Unlimited Hydroplane Seafair Race week was originated by SYC in conjunction with the City of Seattle.

Members cruise to 10 spectacular Outstations dispersed on the waters of Western Washington and British Columbia. The Club enjoys these amenities thanks to members' significant efforts and contributions over the years.

The Club's strong leadership depends on the efforts of hundreds of dedicated volunteer members involved in 90 committees. In fact, industrious committee members evolve into upper leadership levels, encompassing the bridge officers and the Board of Trustees. These committed and enthusiastic volunteer members also work with the Club's experienced staff to sustain the Club's holdings and to create enjoyable activities.

Being a good neighbor is essential, as is working for a better environment. We continue to spread the gospel of good, even masterful, seamanship through competition, cruising, and rendezvous with other boating groups, and through our respected sailing school. We continue the warm tradition of treating our staff members like family, with the reward that they stay with us for decades.

The Four Pools at Disney’s Beach and Yacht Club (Photos, Hours, and Details)

When it comes to the pools at Disney’s Beach and Yacht Club Resorts, you’ve got options. Four pools are available between the resorts. However, most guests will prefer the resort’s feature pool, Stormalong Bay. It’s no secret that we consider it the best hotel pool at Walt Disney World .

However, those wanting to enjoy a peaceful spot at the pool or take a quick swim near their room will want to be aware of the resort’s other options. For instance, you might have a day when you want to enjoy the pool and get laundry done simultaneously. Or you might wake up early one morning and have a few minutes to enjoy the quiet pool before the main pool opens. If so, you’ll have options.

Below, we’ll discuss each of the quiet and feature pools at Disney’s Beach and Yacht Club. We’ll review their location, pool hours, and other amenities you’ll want to know beforehand.

Major Refurbishment Note: From January 2025 through June 2025, Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts will be closed for routine maintenance. During daytime hours, guests may see or hear construction work. During this time, guests are welcome to swim at the Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools. (This was originally scheduled to end in May 2025.)

Disney’s Beach and Yacht Club Pools

As mentioned above, Disney’s Beach and Yacht Club has four swimming pools. They are as follows:

Stormalong Bay

Dunes cove pool.

We’ll preview each pool further below.

Pool Hours at Disney’s Beach and Yacht Club

During our visit, pool hours at Stormalong Bay were between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. However, hours are subject to change. During the summer months until Labor Day, the hours are usually extended one hour until 11:00 p.m.

Quiet pool hours were posted during our last stay from 7:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m. These pool hours are pretty consistent throughout the year. However, you’ll want to know that the quiet pools at Beach and Yacht Club do not have lifeguards or other attendants.

Are the Pools Heated?

Disney’s Beach and Yacht Club pools are heated to 82 degrees. So, in the event of cooler weather, they usually remain open. However, if the outside temperature drops to around 50 degrees or lower, the pools will close until warmer temperatures return.

Complimentary Towels and Life Jackets

Complimentary towels are provided at each pool at Disney’s Beach and Yacht Club, so you can use the extra room in your suitcase for something else.

Life jackets are also provided at each resort pool. They come in a wide range of sizes.

Mobility Lifts

Pool lifts are available for guests with disabilities or limited mobility. Here is a photo of the lift at the Beach Club’s Tidal Pool.

Changing Areas

Each of the resort’s pools has a nearby restroom. However, Stormalong Bay has an area with dedicated showers, a room to change, toiletries, and towels. If you find this area busy, you can use the shower inside the resort’s gym. The gym is adjacent to the pool, and I don’t think most people know this extra set of showers exists.

Stormalong Bay is more of a water park than a pool. It’s so large it would be difficult to photograph in its entirety unless you had an aerial view.

Most guests (including my family) stay at Disney’s Beach or Yacht Club because of Stormalong Bay. We spend most of our days relaxing at the pool, but we do visit the parks for entertainment in the evenings.

Toward one end, a wading pool features a large sandbar in the center. Smaller children can spend hours digging in the sand and enjoying this pool area.

Another kiddie pool is available inside the shipwreck, across the walkway from Stormalong Bay. The ship also serves as the entrance to the pool’s water slide. The photo below shows where the tube slide begins at the top of the ship’s mast.

Stormalong Bay has three hot tubs scattered throughout the pool area.

Guests can take in scenic views of Disney’s Boardwalk across the lake from some places around the pool. Stormalong Bay has plenty of seating. But be warned, the good seats are often taken early. During our stay at the Yacht Club this summer, I waited in line for the pool to open each morning to get a table and chairs in the shade. Places in the shade are pretty limited.

Cabana rentals can be reserved up to 60 days in advance, but they sell out quickly. If you want to learn more, we have a review of renting a cabana at the Beach Club . Tidal Pool at Disney’s Beach Club

Disney’s Beach Club has two additional quiet pools. The Tidal Pool sits on the front side of Disney’s Beach Club. It is the smallest of the three quiet pools between the resorts. While this pool sits near the walkway to Epcot, a laundry room sits on one end, blocking the view. Rooms on the other three sides surround the pool.

To access this pool, take the main hallway off the resort’s lobby. Follow the signs that say pool, and after a few turns, you’ll reach a doorway leading out to the pool. You can’t miss it.

This pool is often the least busy of the three quiet pools. However, if you visit when the weather is warm, don’t be surprised to find a reasonable number of guests at all the pools.

Next, the Dunes Cove Pool is located near the back of the resort. This is the formal pool for the Beach Club Villas. The buildings in this wing are mint green compared to the blue of Disney’s Beach Club.

While the Dunes Cove Pool is exclusive to guests staying in the Beach Club Villas, resort guests can access it. However, this pool area will likely be out of the way and is often busy.

This pool was recently completely resurfaced. We stopped in on a chilly day to check out the updates. Everything looked fresh and new.

Admiral Pool at Disney’s Yacht Club

At Disney’s Yacht Club, guests have access to the Admiral Pool. If you take the hallway off the lobby and pass The Marketplace at Ale and Compass, it will dead end at doors that lead to the Admiral Pool. It’s a peaceful pool area surrounded by trees on one side.

This pool is a little off the beaten path. If your room doesn’t face it, you might not know it was there.

All the quiet pools have a maximum depth of 4’3″. However, Stormalong Bay has some areas that get as deep as 8′.

A hot tub is available on the far end of the pool.

A large laundry room sits at the back of the Yacht Club’s Admiral Pool. We have a post with specifics for laundry at Disney’s Yacht Club if you want to learn more.

Hurricane Hannas Waterside Bar and Grill

If you want to enjoy a meal or cocktail at the pool, you’ll have two options. You can order something and take it to the pool of your choice, or you can visit Stormalong Bay and order from the poolside bar and grill, Hurricane Hannas.

During busier times, servers wait on guests at the pool deck. However, this often takes a while because only a few servers wait on the entire pool area. On my last visit, a server left us a menu. It was over 30 minutes before he returned to our area. While it wasn’t his fault, if you want something quickly, you are probably better off ordering it at the location.

We like placing a mobile order at Ale and Compass and bringing it to the pool. The food is good quality and reasonably priced, and if you want something small, you can order something from the kids’ menu.

If you purchase a Rapid Fill mug during your stay, you should be aware that Hurricane Hannas has a beverage refill station. You can refill your mug at the pool.

Additionally, Beaches and Cream, an ice cream shop, sits immediately behind the pool area. They do not do mobile orders but have a walk-up window where guests can order various ice cream treats. If you want to dine here, you’ll need to get a reservation or join their walk-up list when available.

In addition to the pools, the Beach and Yacht Club have a variety of other recreational activities. The Beach Club has a sand volleyball court near the lobby entrance.

The Yacht Club has a tennis court next to the Admiral Pool. Both resorts share a fully equipped gym on the walkway behind Stormalong Bay.

Or you might prefer to lounge on the Beach while the children play in the sand.

Final Thoughts

We love all the pools at Disney’s Beach Club and Yacht Club. But it’s hard to deny that Stormalong Bay has a special place in our hearts. It’s going to be tough to beat!

On a side note, I would caution that some guests are overwhelmed by the large pool area. So, if you have children of an age where you’ll need to keep an eye on them at all times, you might not enjoy your pool time. When my niece was younger, we camped out at the sand bar pool. It’s more of a wading pool than anything. She was content to dig in the sand all day. So, I never had to worry about her wandering off into other pool areas.

That said, make sure to pack a good book (hopefully), find a spot in the full sun or shade, and relax the day away. Don’t forget the sunscreen! You might even enjoy a little pool-hopping between the resort’s quiet and feature pools throughout your trip. It’s your vacation, so enjoy what you like the most. These special times don’t come often enough for most of us.

Seattle Yacht Club

Founded in 1892, Seattle Yacht Club is one of our country’s most active and long-established yacht clubs. With facilities ranging from the historic main station on Portage Bay, to ten outstations located along the shores of Washington and British Columbia, the club offers an outstanding group of properties for use by its more than 2,500 members.

It gives me great pleasure to confirm the commitment of the Seattle Yacht Club Board of Trustees and its members to the goals and mission of the National Sailing Hall of Fame. Our Fleet Captain Sail, Dave Ferguson and his committee, and Past Commodore, Chris Otorowski, will be working together on the member matching fund program that I expect will exceed the Founding Club level.

The Pacific Northwest waters, aristocratic pines and views of Mt. Rainier, Baker and the Olympics provided inspiration for Chief Sealth’s (Seattle) native peoples and SYC respects this heritage while developing its own traditions and stewardship. In the 1880s Puget Sound’s Budlong’s Boat House was the locale of the first gathering place of SYC yachtsmen followed in 1882 by the moorage on Battery Street at Brighton’s Boat House. The first Clubhouses built for a formally organized Seattle Yacht Club were in 1892 and 1909 in West Seattle.  Presently the Portage Bay clubhouse (1919) between Lakes Union and Washington offers a colonial style with classical elegance and uncovered and covered moorages. It has been on the National Register of Historical Places since 2006. In addition, there are ten beautiful outstations extending from south Puget Sound through Canadian waters. They are Gig Harbor, Elliott Bay, Port Madison and Eagle Harbor on Bainbridge Island, Henry Island and Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands, and Ganges, Ovens Island, Garden Bay and Cortes Bay in Canada. The marine environment is protected by SYC’s Code of Ethics and negotiations with the City of Seattle. Reciprocity with U.S. and international yacht clubs exists.

Since 1928 SYC has participated in powerboat predicted log racing’s annual International Cruiser Race, the Capital to Capitol Race. Hosted by SYC in 1936, the attendance was the highest of any U.S. cruising event to that date. In the 1940s the IPBA made it a family event. Today SYC hosts the IPBA Stimson Cup and participates in other IPBA and local races.

The belief that “everyone who wants to be on the water should be” underlies programs for the community such as the 1935 Shut In Cruise when 50 SYC boats took patients in wheelchairs and on stretchers for a Lake Washington cruise. World War II veterans were taken on similar cruises. Today’s Annual Special People’s Cruise was inspired by SYC women who arranged Christmas cruises for the Fircrest clients. SYC’s Opening Day, modeled in part by the city’s 1911 Potlatch celebration has the largest boating parade and international crew races in the world. SYC sponsors the largest fund raising event in boating, the Leukemia Cup Regatta and the SYC Foundation provides funding for Youth Sailing classes and community boating projects.

Protection of maritime waters and racing abound. SYC formed the first Pacific coastal squadron to teach motorboat navigation and to cooperate with the U.S. government in 1916. During World War II SYC’s Flotilla 24, the largest civilian squadron in the U.S., patrolled Pacific inland waters with private small and large luxury yachts. Pleasure boating was dormant but racing continued. The hydroplane races with SYC’s Slo-Mo IV and V won the Gold Cup 1950-1954 and put Seattle and Seafair on the map. The hydroplane era continues with the SYC burgee on winning boats and thousands of spectators watching the races on Lake Washington and on television.

Pleasure boating resumed after World War II. In 1964 SYC was invited to join the Cruising Club of America and continues to host several of their events. The latter’s goal of promoting cruising by amateurs and its interest in seamanship, navigation and handling of small vessel is in keeping with SYC’s philosophy and support of what the juniors call “people who like to mess around in boats”. Boating education at SYC has always been a priority for youth and adult members and non-members. Currently it is provided in Lasers, Vanguard 15’s, and Optimistist dinghies. Pleasure boating for adults, families and the public is provided in Club and private member boats.

Competing in international races in the 1980s again demonstrated SYC’s racing skills. Olympic gold, silver and bronze medals were brought home. The SYC burgee flew on One World in the 2003 America’s Cup Race. SYC women have won world championships in rowing and the Adams Cup for sailing.  World involvement is further demonstrated by hosting of the International Council of Yacht Clubs Forum in 2011. This is the first time it was held in the United States and 14 countries were represented by numerous delegates.

To insure “the most fun for the most of us” the SYC committee system allows for diversified interest groups and activities for all members. The Men’s and Women’s groups have luncheons with speakers and programs to educate and entertain. Parties, balls, dinner dances and children’s events occur regularly. The annual Commodore’s Ball with the Grand Fourteen Yacht Clubs in the area is a gala event. Potlatch, a weekend of water games, races and feasting at Port Madison, is an example of the family centered events for juniors, intermediates and regular members.

Seattle Yacht Club has a tradition of pride in its members who come from every socioeconomic level. Many have made significant contributions to navigational science and member volunteerism is basic to the Club. The 1937 Board of Trustees stated: the club should cater to the average class of gentlemen yachtsman” attempting to please the aristocrats and also the members with small boats regardless of financial position. SYC also has pride in its clubhouse and the city it is named after. The beacon light on top of the Portage Bay clubhouse was installed by SYC members and the Coast Guard and its spire is shown on nautical charts as a private stationary aid to navigation. It beckons you to join the fun of a cultural icon and continue to make history.

Water camps foster teamwork, teach new skills and promote safety.

Lake Washington, Puget Sound, Lake Sammamish, Green Lake, Commencement Bay, your local pool: Our cities and neighborhoods are literally surrounded by a multitude of sparkling bodies of water — beautiful to look at, but even more fun to play in. Luckily, there are many local summer camps that make the most of our aquatic landscape, turning the great outdoors into a setting for learning about marine life, boosting water skills and cultivating new ways to stay active in an increasingly sedentary world.

Very young children are drawn to water, and most enjoy splashing in pools and wading into the surf. (Note that early swimming lessons greatly reduce the risk of drowning in young children). When kids are a bit older and have mastered basic water competency, they may be ready for more advanced aquatic activities. Whether it’s shoving off in a sloop or paddling a kayak through a wildlife-rich wetland, water sports combine exercise, strategy, learning and fun.

We’ve scoured our region’s youth summer camp scene to find top-notch opportunities for frolicking in the sea, surf, sand and swimming pool.

Moss Bay (Seattle)

This weeklong day camp is great for kids who want to try stand-up paddleboarding, sailing and kayaking all in one camp. Located in the protected waterways of South Lake Union and with a 6-to-1 camper-to-instructor ratio, the camp gives kids the opportunity to learn and have fun while staying safe on the water.

Dates: Weekly, starting June 10, 17 and 24; July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; Aug. 5, 12, 19 and 26 Ages: 7–12 Cost: $525

Seattle Yacht Club (Seattle)

These weeklong day camps on Portage Bay teach kids of all skill levels how to sail safely on boats of different sizes. Campers must pass a basic float test (with life jacket on) and are led by U.S. Sailing Level 1 instructors. A special Learn to Race camp is scheduled for July 22–26 for experienced campers who have taken at least one SYC class and are able to pass a basic float test.

Dates: Weekly, starting June 17 and 24; July 8, 15 and 29; Aug. 5, 12, 19 and 26 Ages: 7–17 Cost: $550

Alki Adventure Camps (Seattle)

In this full-day, weeklong camp, kids explore the waters of Puget Sound, Elliott Bay and Lake Washington from a stand-up paddleboard (SUP). Campers are supervised by SUP guides, and kids get to go on off-site adventures as well. All gear is provided.

Dates: Weekly, starting June 10, 17 and 24; July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; Aug. 5, 12, 19 and 26 Ages: 9–16 Cost: $385–$410

Center for Wooden Boats (Seattle)

Three levels of camp are available this summer, from an intro to sailing to an intro to racing. Students will develop tacking, jibing, sail trim, weight balance and capsize recovery skills while learning terminology and theory. Some camps have prerequisites. Special Quick & Daring camps will be offered to kids ages 10–14, at which teams of campers design, build and race boats on Lake Union’s shallow waters.

Dates: Various Ages: 8–11 Cost: Up to $650 (discount for members)

SAMBICA H2O Camps (Seattle)

Campers at SAMBICA swim every single day with tubes, banana boats and cool water toys. Other activities include kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, wakeboarding and waterskiing. Kids have to pass a swim test to access the deep end of the pool or to be allowed to swim without a life jacket.

Dates: Aug. 12–16 and 19–23 Grades: 2–9 Cost: $889–$957

Camp Fire Kiwanis Camp (Vashon Island)

During this water-themed week, campers go from boating on Puget Sound to living in the woods in a historic Kiwanis lodge. After spending the day on the water, kids can while away the evening observing bioluminescent algae; campers also receive a daylong sailing lesson.

Dates: Weekly, starting July 8, 22 and 29; Aug. 12 Grades: 7–10 Cost: $1,225–$1,425

Camp Fire Splash! (Vashon Island)

Campers at Splash! spend hours each day swimming, boating, fishing and building sandcastles along Camp Sealth’s waterfront. They also take a field trip one day to swim in Vashon Pool.

Dates: Aug. 19–24 Grades: 4–6 Cost: $1,035–$1,235

Water safety resources

Swimming and play in the water is tons of fun, but always remember that safety must come first. Head to the  American Red Cross  website to find a local provider for Red Cross standard swimming lessons and read about water safety tips .

The  National Safety Council  is another great resource. It provides  special water safety tips for different age groups .

Safety first

Can your child tread water or float on their back for one full minute? How about exiting the pool without using the ladder? These are two of the five basic “water competency” skills defined by the American Red Cross, and these skills (or variations on them) are an admission requirement for some water-themed camps. (The other three critical skills are the ability to jump into water over your head and return to the surface, turn around in a full circle and find an exit and swim 25 yards without stopping.)

Need to fast-track obtaining these skills before summer? Sign your kids up for swim lessons ! Try a swim center with a long track record and strong reputation, like  Samena Swim & Recreation Club in Bellevue, which offers group and one-on-one lessons taught according to the American Red Cross standard. City of Seattle public pools offer lessons at many locations, but plan ahead and act fast as spots fill up quickly!

Restoring the Bones of Seattle Yacht Club’s 100-year Club

When your yacht club’s mainstation building has weathered a century of storms and rain, it might be time to see what lies beneath the outer skin. This is exactly what the Seattle Yacht Club decided it was time to do. Complicating this was the fact that the Old Grand Dame is on the National Historic Register, so it can have no significant exterior changes to the appearance of the building or the footprint. SYC Architect and Club member describes how SYC undertook this project.

As with any wood-framed structure that has withstood the ravages of a century’s worth of wind, rain, sun and occasional neglect, the grand dame of Seattle’s Montlake neighborhood was showing her age. Designed by former Commodore and renowned Seattle architect, John Graham, Sr., and completed in 1920, the Seattle Yacht Club’s clubhouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places 86 years later.

Three years ago, Commodore Ted Shultz asked me how much it would cost to “re-side” the building. In my experience, I have learned to never offer an opinion about how much something will cost without serious study, consultation and discussion, so I proposed that all exterior finishes be replaced or restored instead of replacing only the skin of the building. Because these new surfaces would likely not be disturbed for another hundred years, it made sense to go one step deeper now and do a seismic upgrade of the structure beneath.

First, we decided to bring the structure up to current building code standards for an earthquake-resistant design. We then drafted a list of things that we wanted to improve, limiting it to just exterior work so that the interior of the Club remained fully functional and operational during the construction period. A committee representing all constituent interests was then formed to decide how we would accomplish this.

Once we agreed to a defined scope of work, we decided that this should be a winter-time project so as not to disturb the summer’s events, but would have cost implications beecause the work would have to be fully enclosed during periods of inclement weather to keep the building dry. While the building is about 19,000 square feet in floor area, it’s just a big house. So, I contacted a trusted contractor who had extensive experience building large, intricately detailed homes. They looked at the project and developed a detailed cost analysis.

The SYC by-laws require a majority vote of the membership for capital improvements of this magnitude. I developed a detailed narrative and made presentations to the Club while working to gain the approval of the Seattle Landmarks Board because they enforce the development restrictions for any building designated as “Historic.” Once we cleared that hurdle, the project was put to a vote of the membership in June of 2022, and passed by a 9 to 1 margin.

With the funds approved, I set to work preparing the construction drawings, hiring the engineer to perform the seismic retrofit design and writing the project specifications. I also began the arduous process of wresting a building permit from the City of Seattle. This was all done under the auspices of the Club’s House and Building Committees. In addition to the siding, the project also included the removal and replacement of the original ship-lap sheathing; the oldest of the original single-glazed windows, doors, and trim; a deteriorating and non-code conforming deck railing and flat roof; and the refurbishment of the soffit above the porch below. Costs were updated as the scope developed with the design. In July 2023, we executed a contract with Walter F. Toth Construction to begin work on August 1.

Phase I of the work began with the erection of a weatherproof scaffolding on the east side of the building, and demolition of the old siding and sheathing to expose the un-insulated stud cavities. To our great fortune, the framing was found to be rot-free, including the sill plates (the horizontal 2x6s that come into direct contact with the concrete foundation), a true testament to the qualities of older buildings.

Newport Shores is a luxurious and unique community located along the southeast shore of Lake Washington in the city of Bellevue, Washington. It is a family oriented community on over 170 acres with more than 340 homes. Over 100 of the homes in the community are located on Lake Washington and canal waterfront. The winding streets within the community are great for biking, rollerblading, and walking; with quick convenient access to the Lake Washington bike trail, Newcastle Park, Mercer Slough and I-405. Shopping is just minutes away in Factoria and downtown Bellevue.

Newport Yacht Club is a member’s only facility located within the prestigious Newport Shores community. The Clubhouse offers a wide array of activities, socials, and events for members of all ages. A monthly newsletter, Facebook page and website keep the members informed of the activities for the community. The Yacht Club facilities include three regulation size tennis courts , half-court  basketball , kids  playground ,  sand volleyball court , seasonal heated outdoor  pool  and a  marina . The Club is available for private rentals for both members and non-members. The rental space includes a 1,700 square foot  banquet space , 30×30  outdoor deck  that overlooks the scenic Lake Washington and a full size catering  kitchen .

Newport Yacht Club – Swim Team

The NYC belongs to the Midlakes Swim League which consists of 27 teams from Seattle and the Eastside. Midlakes Swim League’s stated purpose is “to provide opportunity for its members to promote competitive swimming for its youth.” Our swim team is open to All Active members of the Newport Yacht Club and we have 40 Community Member openings for those that are not Active Members of the Newport Yacht Club. The event space is available for rent to the public and to Members, and includes a full kitchen with a buffet serving counter, commercial refrigerator and freezer and sink, stove, oven, dishwasher and commercial coffee maker. Round and rectangle tables are available for use as well as folding chairs; however dishes, glassware and linens are not provided.

The Clubhouse has ample parking and is wheelchair-accessible with ramps to the building entrance and an elevator. In accordance with City of Bellevue noise ordinances, the Club and Bellevue Police enforce a 10:00 PM ending time for all music on weeknights and 11:00 PM on weekends.

Renters are responsible for set up and tear down of the event within the time reserved. No rental period can extend past 12 midnight. Phone reservations or appointments to tour the Clubhouse may be made with the Membership Services Director at 425-747-3291.

Reservations are held for 72 hours, at which time the signed rental agreement and refundable security deposit are due. Final room rental charges are due no later than 30 days prior to the event date.

As of January 1, 2005, any purchaser of a home in the Newport Shores community is required to become and maintain their status as an Active Member  of the Newport Yacht Club.

Most homeowners in Newport Shores are  Active Resident Members  of the Newport Yacht Club. Once acquired, membership may be kept even after moving out of Newport Shores, by continuing to pay monthly dues, which are billed quarterly. Membership entitles the homeowner and their immediate family to use all facilities and to participate in all activities of the Newport Yacht Club.

Owners of marina slip licenses are required to become  Active Associate Members  of the Club. Associate Members are required to pay an initial initiation fee and active monthly dues which are billed quarterly. Associate Members also have use of the Clubhouse facilities and may participate in all the Club’s activities.

Home Renters of  Active Resident Member  homes in the Newport Shores community may have  Active Associate Member  status through their landlord agreement and Board approval. Dues for Home Renters of  Active Resident Member  homes  are the responsibility of the homeowner and/or agreement of Homeowner and tenant.

Marina slip renters may choose to become  Active Associate Members  with payment of an initiation fee and active monthly dues and only for the time they occupy a home or slip.

All Members (Resident, Active Resident, Active Associate) receive the monthly newsletter and have access to the Member’s website. Resident Members may also attend certain special events such as the Fourth of July celebration and Commodore’s Ball.

The Newport Yacht Club Marina is located south of the I-90 Bridge on Lake Washington in Bellevue, Washington. (Our exact position is latitude 47.574 degrees North and longitude 122.189 degrees West.)

The Marina has 109 slips ranging in length from 26 to 50 feet and all are equipped with 30-amp power and water. There is a public boat launch just north of the community at SE 40th street as well as easy access to a gasoline dock and repair facility next door. (Visitors please be aware that the boat ramp is only accessible from Lake Washington Boulevard, not from within our community.)

Newport Yacht Club leases out approximately 50 slips a year. Slip leases are available on annual and some 6 month contracts. Slip renters are eligible to become Active Associate Members with payment of an initiation fee and active monthly dues and only for the time they occupy a slip.

Windstar Cruises Yacht Club loyalty program: Everything you need to know

Seattle-based Windstar Cruises is a relatively small line, but it offers a big loyalty program that can bring you all sorts of great perks if you sail regularly with the brand.

Dubbed the Yacht Club, the four-tier program, which was massively upgraded in late 2020 , offers its higher-tier members such valuable perks as a $100-per-person onboard credit for every sailing, free laundry service on ships and free Wi-Fi. Higher-tier members also get significant discounts on cruises, beverage packages, shore excursions and more.

The program was upgraded at the same time that the six-ship line expanded its capacity with a massive makeover and enlargement of three of its vessels. The $250-million Star Plus Initiative, as it was called, brought new suites, restaurants, pool decks and more to the line's three yacht-like motor vessels — Star Breeze, Star Legend and Star Pride.

All three of the vessels also were lengthened by around 20%.

Ways to earn points

The Yacht Club point-earning system is relatively straightforward. In most cases, members earn 1 point for every day they sail on a Windstar vessel. The only exception is for passengers staying in top suites. Customers staying in Wind Class suites or Deluxe suites on Star Plus Class ships will get 1.5 points for every day they sail. Those staying in Owner's suites and Classic suites on Star Plus Class vessels will get 2 points for every day they sail, as will passengers staying in the Bridge Suite on the Wind Surf.

Program tiers and benefits

There are four tiers to the Yacht Club program:

• One Star (1 to 15 points)
• Two Star (16 to 39 points)
• Three Star (40 to 89 points)
• Four Star (90 or more points)

Even at the lowest One Star level, the perks are fairly robust, at least as compared to loyalty programs of many of Windstar's small-ship cruise line competitors.

Yacht Club members at all four tiers get a 5% discount on fares when booking a cruise. That's a great perk, as it amounts to real money in your pocket. But it gets even better if you book a cruise while on board a Windstar ship or within 60 days of departing one. In such cases, Yacht Club members will get an additional 5% discount on fares — bringing the total savings to 10%.

In select cases, Yacht Club members will be rewarded for their loyalty with even bigger discounts. As part of the program, members can snag an even heftier 20% discount on select Yacht Club member sailings. One caveat: The 20% discount won't be combinable with other offers.

In addition, all Yacht Club members get:

• Advance notification of new deployments
• Advance notification of sales events
• Members-only private sales
• A $100 shipboard credit when referring a new customer to Windstar. The customer also will receive a $100 onboard credit.
• Exclusive members-only cocktail party with ship officers
• Exclusive onboard tote
• Additional discounts at sister Xanterra Travel Collection brands (more on that below)

Plus, starting at the One Star level, customers get a 5% discount on laundry service, Wi-Fi and Windstar merchandise whenever they sail with the line. Note that the Wi-Fi discount only applies to Wi-Fi purchased individually and not as part of the line's All-Inclusive Fares.

At the Two Star level, customers get all the above plus a 5% discount on shore excursions and beverage packages (again, the latter discount does not apply to the line's All-Inclusive Fares). They also get a $50 per person onboard credit for every cruise they take.

The elite level that makes a difference

We're impressed with all four levels of the Windstar Yacht Club loyalty program. Even at the lowest tier, it brings real savings for loyal passengers. And the shore excursion and beverage package discounts that come with the Two Star level are enticing in our eyes.

That said, we start to get really excited about the Three Star tier. It bumps the discounts for laundry service, Wi-Fi, shore excursions and Windstar merchandise to 10%. If you're the kind of cruiser who does a shore excursion in every port and regularly uses onboard services, such as laundry and Wi-Fi, this could save you $100 or more on a typical seven-night cruise.

The Three Star tier also comes with an onboard credit of $75 per person for every cruise you take. That's more real money in your pocket.

Best elite perk

It's a tough call on the best elite perk of the Windstar Cruises Yacht Club loyalty program. Unlike some frequent cruiser programs, there isn't one clear standout perk, such as the free cruise that Royal Caribbean Crown & Anchor Society members get after reaching the top Pinnacle Club level.

At the top Four Star tier level of the Yacht Club program, passengers get free laundry service and free Wi-Fi on every sailing, which are both valuable perks. But the most generous perk may be the 15% discount on shore excursions that comes with Four Star status. That's assuming you are the type of cruiser who signs up for a lot of cruise line-organized shore excursions. If you spend $1,000 a week on excursions, that perk alone is worth $150 per seven-night cruise.

At the Four Star level, members also get a 15% credit on Windstar merchandise and a 10% discount on beverage packages. The onboard credit increases to $100 per person for every cruise you take.

One thing we like about the Yacht Club program is that it doesn't take all that many cruises to reach the top Four Star level. For someone staying in a standard cabin, it would require the completion of 13 seven-night cruises. That's not all that hard to do in just four or five years, assuming you cruise two or three times a year. But, if you stay in suites, you could hit the Four Star level far more quickly. It would take just seven seven-night cruises.

You can hit the top Four Star level even more quickly if you sign up for Windstar's longer "Star Collector" voyages of 14 to 60 days. With the right mix of such sailings, you could reach Four Star status in just two or three sailings.

Indeed, someone staying in a top suite on one of the longer Star Collector sailings, in theory, could hit the Four Star level after just a single cruise.

Note that, as is often the case with cruise line loyalty programs, Windstar customers do not have to re-qualify for status each year. Yacht Club members keep their points at the end of each year and continue to accrue points indefinitely. That means that someone who hits Four Star status will remain at that top tier level forever (or until Windstar makes a change to the program).

Such "forever status" is one of the great allures of cruise line frequent cruiser programs. Many airline frequent flyer programs, by contrast, require loyalty members to re-qualify for status each year.

Benefits at Xanterra Travel Collection brands

In addition to discounts and other perks at Windstar, Yacht Club loyalty program members are entitled to special perks at hotels, lodges and other travel vendors owned by Windstar's parent company, The Anschutz Corporation.

Based in Denver, The Anschutz Corporation owns such iconic hotels as The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and the Sea Island Resort just off the Georgia coast. It also owns two hotel properties near national parks (The Grand Hotel near the Grand Canyon and Cedar Creek Lodge near Glacier National Park) and is the largest national and state park concessioner in the United States. Among the national parks where it is the concessionaire are Yellowstone National Park, Grand Canyon National Park and Glacier National Park.

Other Anschutz travel holdings include the Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel and tour companies VBT Bicycling Vacations, Country Walkers and Holiday Vacations.

Together, all of the hotels, lodges and travel companies are known as the Xanterra Travel Collection. The perks available to Yacht Club members at Xanterra Travel Collection entities vary but often take the form of credit. At the Sea Island Resort, for instance, members are entitled to a $200 resort credit.

Bottom line

It's unusual for a cruise line as small as Windstar to have such a great loyalty program. Massively upgraded in October 2020, Windstar's four-tier Yacht Club loyalty program brings a lot of great perks even at the lowest One Star tier level, including across-the-board discounts on cruise fares. At the highest Four Star level, it brings a significant amount of value.

Since 1945,  Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle  has been  connecting members of our community to the sport of sailing and providing “ Yacht Racing & Cruising at its Best! ”

Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle was founded on January 26, 1945. The aim, both now and then, is to provide the very best in yacht racing and cruising for anyone who aspires to experience the best sailing has to offer.   Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle is, and always will be, a true sailor’s club.

In it’s first few years, Corinthian Yacht Club’s members met in an unused ice house near the ferry terminal in Leschi,organizing racing on Lake Washington. These were humble beginnings for what would become one of the most decorated racing clubs in North America.

Racing through 1940s and 1950s was primarily in the six- and eight-meter classes, Star, Geary 18, Blanchard Knockabout, Lightning, Mercury, International 110, and International 14 classes.  By 1948 the club had erected a race tower and floated docks at Leschi on land leased from the Seattle Parks Department to further support it’s racing efforts on Lake Washington.

When the marina at Shilshole Bay was completed, club members designed, financed, and constructed a floating clubhouse that remains moored at the Shilshole marina to support racing on Puget Sound.

Countless major sailing championships have been held at Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle, including the 1971 Star World Championships, the 1990 Goodwill Games yachting competition and the 2010 J/24 North American Championships.

Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle has a strong tradition in competitive sailing and has one of the nation’s top rosters of current and past champions .  Each year CYC welcomes many new members, from novice sailors to Olympic caliber one-design sailors.  Join us this season for what we hope will be an unforgettable year!
