Seawind 1370

seawind power catamaran

The Seawind 1370 , a 45 footer, builds on the success of the  42 foot Seawind 1260.

Designed by François PERUS and Romain SCOLARI of the Yacht Design Collective (who are the team behind the ITA 14.99), it’s a fine looking boat with sleek boxy lines and reverse bows, influenced by the Seawind 1600 which has a more refined look than its predecessors. With that longeron, she is starting to look like a Gunboat. This yacht will be competing with the likes of the Catana Ocean Class (which probably sits between this boat and the Seawind 1600)

It’s a Seller The new model was designed from the ground up, and has had a very successful launch. Seawind have filled up their order book for the next 5 years.  The Australian manufacturer has built over 700 boats in the 35-42ft range, and this is their first “mid-range” cat.

The Seawind 1370 has gone for a galley-up design like the 1600, with an Open design with saloon, galley, cockpit and helms all on one level. They have opted for the usual Seawind mix of performance and comfort that is comparable to a Nautitech. It’s more of a fast cruising cat than a performance cat. Even so, this is built with a completely different philosophy to something like the Bali Catspace which is targeted squarely at the charter market. The 1370 is targeted at owners setting off on long passages.

The boat weighs in at 11 tonnes–very light for a 45-footer, and she will soak up weight well for longer passages. She is available in 4 configurations: 3 cabins/2 heads, 3 cabins/3 heads, 4 cabins/2 heads and 4 cabins/4 heads.

  • Light and nippy (11 tonnes light)
  • Constructed using Closed Cell PVC Foam (no balsa)
  • Good load carrying capability
  • Points well upwind for a keel cat
  • Fully protected helms
  • Sheets, reefs and halyards lead aft to electric winches at the helms
  • A low boom that hugs the coachroof: it’s easy to access the mainsail, and this keeps the centre of effort low making a for seaworthy boat in a blow.
  • Open plan living maximises the living space.
  • Above average finish for a production cat.
  • Great ventilation at anchor with 2 forward windows that open right up.
  • Forward facing nav station
  • Lots of solar power negating the need for a generator
  • Good value. Seawinds are built in Vietnam.
  • Visibility from the helm. Seawind have worked hard on this with sliding windows in front of the helm and clean sight lines, but the bottom line is that you helm from inside. That’s your compromise for all that protection from the elements. There are clear panes above the helms to check the sails and you can perch on the deck beside the helm but it is more enclosed than the 1260 and 1600 which has more “half in, half out” helms.
  • No visibility of the mainsail from the saloon.
  • In marinas, you are going to be running between those helms to check your distances. Whatever anyone says, you won’t trust your judgement looking through glass.
  • The outside dining area is pretty small for a 45 footer.

Seawinds are known for their sailing ability and the 1370 shouldn’t disappoint on that front. She comes with an 80 sqm square top mainsail and a 36 sqm self tacker. They have moved the mast back on this design versus previous models which gives you a more powerful jib and a nicely balanced sail set up (which is an old Prout trick by the way).

The 1370 has fixed keels so she won’t point as high as a daggerboard cat like the Balance 482 but she’s no slouch upwind, particularly when the wind freshens up.

Balanced Sail Plan The larger jib is somewhere between a traditional self tacking solent and a manual tacking genoa which will help in lighter winds without having to fly sails off the bowsprit. At only 11 tonnes, she will get going quickly.

seawind power catamaran

The boom on the Seawind 1370 is low which lowers the centre of effort of the mainsail: all helping her seaworthiness and it also helps to improve the ride. The hull shape has been designed to reduce pitching and give you a smoother motion through the waves.

The hulls are chimed (a design feature perfected by Catana and something that has evolved from the 1600) to give you more living space, particularly in the aft cabin. The hulls are still slender and that means they will still slip through the water nicely.

Bridgedeck clearance is a decent 0.85m with a little wave breaker to help disperse wave energy in a seaway. The weight distribution (fuel, water etc) has been kept low, following the Seawind design DNA.

Fully Protected Helms….the Seawind Way The helm position is typically Seawind: fully protected with views forward through the saloon. All working lines lead back to the helm with 2 winches and clutches at each helm station. If you want even further protection, you can head to the forward facing nav station in the saloon. With covers and clears up, you can extend your protected area all of the way back.

Clear panels above the helms give you a view of your sails from the helm seat and if you want to go for more sailing feel, you can perch on the side of the deck and helm from there. It is noticeable that the design is more enclosed than the 1600 or even the 1260 which has more “half in, half out” double helms.

Options for your sail locker include a screecher, flown off the end of the longeron, gennaker and a spinnaker,

Construction

The 1370 is constructed using PVC closed cell foam: no balsa is used unlike some of the more popular French production catamarans. The hulls are reinforced with a combination of E-Glass and carbon fibre and the bow area has a skin of kevlar to protect against impact. This catamaran has been designed to be a tough boat for world cruising.

Living Space

The saloon and aft cockpit are on one level and the whole space opens up creating one big living platform. There are some nice touches here, like the breakfast bar that extends off the galley into the aft cockpit. The saloon table sits to port and a U-shaped galley is starboard behind the forward facing nav station.

Good Flow There’s a nice flow to the design with the starboard steps down into the hulls further forward. The forward windows open right up to maximise the ventilation at anchor.

It’s not huge in the saloon compared to other production cats, but that’s because the saloon is tucked behind the mast which is in itself positioned further back to balance the sail plan. That keeps the weight off the bow remember, you can’t have everything.

When you open the whole area up, however, there is plenty of space.

seawind power catamaran

Thanks to those inboard and outboard chimes, there’s also plenty of room down below for such a nippy cat, particularly in the master cabin forward but also in the aft cabin(s) where you have a full double berth.

With over 2m of head height throughout the 1370, this is a boat that feels roomy down below. The master cabin has a big double arranged athwartships with views over the sea and plenty of ventilation.

3 Cabin 2 Heads version

The coachroof will fit 1900W of solar, more than they currently fit on the 1600. With an option for lithium batteries from Mastervolt, you can provide all of the power you need by running your engines every now and then to top up your batteries. This includes being able to run stuff like A/C, induction stove tops, electric oven and a microwave.

The standard power unit is twin Yanmar 40HP sail drives with an option to upgrade to 45HP, and maybe even 57s which have the same block size as the 45s. It’s worth the upgrade as you’ll get the same boat speed with less revs and with a lower fuel burn for a minimal weight penalty.

Is there an option for daggerboards? No. The 1370 has been designed as a robust world cruiser. She’s not bad upwind though.

What size dinghy is optimal for the 1370? Seawind are recommending a 3.6m tender

What is the Price of a Seawind 1370? How much does this catamaran cost? We will state our usual qualifier, which is that the price will heavily depend on the options you go for, but to give you an idea, you will start the conversation at around US$700,000 ex tax. Add around $150k for options. It is competitively priced against other cruising catamarans.

We really like the look of the Seawind 1370 and there are some nice design touches on this catamaran. Seawind have obviously focused on the detail, an example being the design of the anchor and bridle system. She looks a great compromise between comfort and performance and has been built to withstand some knocks.

I’d need to test out that helm position and visibility sailing and when in the marina. She is going to be easy to back into a berth with dual controls for the engines- it’s more manoeuvring around the marina and trimming your sails that I’d want to test. Your only problem might be getting hold of one, as the demand for this new design has been so high.

Seawind Venturer 38 – Boat Review

By David Lockwood If you’re looking to venture out into tropical waters, what better boat for laid-back, low-speed coasting than a cruising power catamaran? David Lockwood tests the Seawind Venturer 38. There’s a place for power catamarans that few other boats can fill, but as cruising conveyances in tropical climes they really go with the territory. Little wonder, then, that this working version of the Seawind Venturer 38 was bound for a charterfleet in the Whitsundays. Also offered by the factory with an owner-driver layout, the Venturer could just as easily accommodate a cruisy couple on a tropical odyssey for days, weeks or months as it could up to eight people for a holiday away. Jump to Seawind Catamarans For Sale

Since 1982, Australian owner and experienced sailor Richard Ward has built Seawind from the ground up, focusing on innovative designs that improve the safety and comfort of the entire Seawind line. They began with “off the beach” catamarans in the 9- to 12-foot range, slowly evolving into larger, cruise-worthy vessels. Their first, the Seawind 24, was a 24-foot cruising catamaran that sold over 350 boats.

Between 1991 and today, Seawind has built over 600 vessels, first in Australia. In the mid-2000s, after partnering with Corsair, they moved manufacturing to the Corsair factory in Vietnam. Models include the: • Seawind 850 • Seawind 1000, 1000XL • Seawind 1050 Resort • Seawind 1200, 1250, 1260 • Seawind 1160, 1190 • Seawind 1370 • Seawind 1600

Seawinds were built to allow couples and families to cruise in safety and comfort. The Seawind design philosophy can be summed up by its company-designated acronym:

Sails like a real sailboat Engineered to endure Anyone can operate Weather protected at the helm Indoor/outdoor living Natural ventilation Don’t waste space

Originally built to withstand the harsh coasts of Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific, Seawind catamarans can be found sailing the seven seas, either as a charter boat or decked-out cruising vessel.

What Makes Seawind Special? Catamaran designs have come a long way over the past three decades, so it isn’t much to say that innovation is the company’s unique hallmark. With that said, Seawind has distinguished themselves through thoughtful innovations not typically seen on more budget-conscious catamarans.

Construction As the Seawind line evolved, they moved from traditional hand-lay-up GRP construction to a high-tech resin infusion process that utilizes closed molds, vacuum pressure, and a controlled environment for curing. This process significantly improves the strength of the Seawind hulls and reduces weight. Additionally, all seating areas and shelves are integrated into the mold to increase strength and minimize squeaking and groaning while underway.

Living Space Even before the integration of the unique trifold door found between the salon and cockpit area of the 1160 model and beyond, Seawind put significant thought into the living spaces of its catamarans. Through the use of thoughtful design, the Seawind provides a more open layout so guests and crew aren’t sitting on top of each other. In addition, the places where you would normally congregate in the worst weather, like the salon or berths, are located along the areas of the vessel with the least amount of pitch.

Safety In alignment with their design and mission statements, the Seawind models provide safety features that include protected helm stations, three lifelines that stand 36-inches, the placement of sail controls that allow for reefing from the cockpit, and wide, flat decks for ease of movement in weather.

Sailable, Livable Vessels Overall, Seawinds are known to be solid sailing vessels that don’t compromise a lot of comfort for performance. With a wide range of models to take a beginning or seasoned sailor around the world, the Seawinds should not be overlooked in the search for your next catamaran.

SEAWIND 1160

The 1160 innovative design has gained worldwide acclaim for its clever layout, use of space and efficient short-handed sailing performance., performance through optimization, live, expore and discover with an 1160.

The Seawind 1160 Lite platform features timber laminates that reduce the boat weight by almost 1,000kg. The catamaran layout maximizes the space of this 38-footer and allows for open airflow from the fully-opening cockpit doors through the saloon, down into the cabins, and through the forward wet locker. With 360 degree views and plenty of natural light down below, you have a great view point from any angle on this catamaran design.

MORDERN CRUISING CATAMARAN ERGONOMICS

Live, explore and discover with an 1160.

The Seawind 1160 pioneered modern cruising catamaran ergonomics, including the transverse bed arrangement – one bed arranged fore-aft and the other arranged transverse, meaning you will always find a comfortable sleeping angle in the cabins. The broad saloon allows for a large double bed – so sleep under stars when anchored. While under way, have a comfortable nights sleep in the saloon, within easy reach of the captain on the helm. It’s these easy and natural ergonomics which meake the Seawind 1160 design the cruisers choice across the globe.

SLEEK INTERIOR DESIGN

The Seawind 1160 Lite has a sleek new interior design and fitout, with lightweight and stylish timber-effect laminate surfaces and a contemporary colour pallete. Upholstery is modern, angular, supportive and comfortable, with a range of premium interior fabrics to choose from.

LUXURIOUS INTERIOR DESIGN FOR DELUXE VERSION

The Seawind 1160 Deluxe has a sleek new interior design and fitout, with lightweight and stylish timber surfaces and a traditional yet modern contemporary colour pallete. Upholstery is modern, angular, supportive and comfortable, with a range of premium interior fabrics to choose from.

One of the most noticeable differences on board the Seawind 1160 catamaran is the new sleek interior design and fit out. The timber kit will be replaced with lightweight and stylish timber look laminate surfaces, with a new contemporary neutral colour palette as specified by Seawind’s interior stylist.

With well over 150 Seawind 1160 boats launched and sailing the world, the design has been well proven, from crossing the world’s largest oceans to chartering in the beautiful locations such as the Whitsundays, Thailand and Caribbean.

The Seawind 1160 platform enabels boat owners to choose between traditional Yanmar diesel sail drives or the significantly lighter 20hp Honda (or 25hp Yamaha) outboard engines with electric tilt, a simple push of a button tilts the engine up and out of the water so you have no prop and shaft dragging.

Full in-depth tour from Learning the Lines

"We're seriously considering the Seawind 1160 Lite for our next sailboat because of the long list of positives this catamaran has to offer. Here's just a few of the most important ones to us: Size - We don't want a huge catamaran. Seaworthiness - Plenty of Seawind catamarans have circumnavigated. Performance - The Seawind 1160 Lite is designed to sail well first and foremost. Livability - This catamaran has got a lot of accommodation and room for a 38' sailboat. All of that combined with the fact that we can set one up with electric outboards, daggerboards, and lifting rudders means we think that the Seawind 1160 Lite might be the best catamaran boat possible for our budget and lifestyle."

ANCHOR BRIDLE

seawind power catamaran

One of the few shortcommings of a catamaran is its tendancy not to stay head to wind on anchor. As wind blows across the bows the boat will tend to twist from side to side around the anchor chain. This effect is combatted by the use of an anchor bridle.

SOLAR PANEL UPGRADE FROM 2X 125W TO 2X 210W RIGID AND 2X 320W FLUSH PANELS

In this configuration we installed 2x 320w flush panels on the hardtop and 2x 210w framed panels off the back of the targa arch giving a total of 1060W. The flush mount panels can contour to the shape of the roof and can therefore cover more surface area, their weakness however is reduced efficiency (our tests showed a 10% reduction compared to the framed panels of equivalent wattage).

Seawind Venturer 38

If you're looking to venture out into tropical waters, what better boat for laid-back, low-speed coasting than a cruising power catamaran david lockwood tests the seawind venturer 38.

There's a place for power catamarans that few other boats can fill, but as cruising conveyances in tropical climes they really go with the territory.

What's so good about the cruising power catamaran? Where to start? Perhaps first and foremost they are easily-driven boats that require modest engines to attain fast 15–20 knot cruise speeds. Having said that, this charterboat was set up as a displacement cruiser with an 11-knot top speed. Think no licence required and especially low fuel burn.

Next, powercats are generally low-wash boats, which is good for the environment, especially when inshore cruising up narrow channels like those in Southern Queensland. Also, they are shallow-draft craft, a detail that could be a real blessing in skinny water. Should you make a wrong turn, no worries, the skegs will protect the props when you go aground and churn the bottom into mud soup.

The power catamaran always offers a surfeit of comfortable deck space. Of course, outdoor areas are exactly where you want to be on hot summer days and nights. The Venturer's decks lend themselves to entertaining, outdoor cooking and dining, sightseeing and carry cruising amenities such as tenders, paddlecraft and even pets.

Indoors, meanwhile, you are sure to find a central saloon with views - read protected living areas - not to mention accommodation in each hull that is perfectly private for heading away for a holiday with family or friends. The layout on this Cruiser version has four cabins and one head. However, the Sports version has twin staterooms and twin head, not to mention motors up to twin 250hp for a top speed of more than 20 knots.

With Seawind being a semi-custom boatbuilder, you can create pretty much whatever you want inside the Venturer 38. Owners' boats might include an 8kVA genset in the lazarette and four air-con units. There is also room to increase the fuel capacity, downsize the water tank, and fit a desolator.

CRUISING BASICS While the Australian boatbuilder is best known for its sailing cats, there is growing interest in the power catamaran from investors, weary sailors and time-poor professionals. Like a would-be buyer, I spent quite some time getting to the bottom of things on this Venturer 38. Fundamentally, it scored well in the power, fuel and water stakes. The engineering met survey standard and there was pretty good access to most equipment should something go wrong.

As mentioned, this charter-bound boat had small engines that actually required yet more governing to make the boat a no-licence-required driving option. The engine rooms held modest Volvo 75hp diesel motors, but they are deceptively accommodating of twin 125hp or even 250hp Volvo or Yanmar engines.

The watertight engine rooms are aft in each hull, with motor access under bunk cushions. The motors had a glass fuel filter and reasonable access to the dipsticks, but had solid Volvo sea strainers - I would much prefer glass bowls that let you make at-a-glance cooling system checks. Not that any of these will concern the charterer. Motor maintenance will occur mostly in calm water back on dock.

If needed, a motor can be removed through the cockpit via large hatches. Access to the hydraulic steering was through a separate removable aft panel. Being in survey, the boat had external fuel shutoffs and manual engine-room venting shutoffs.

On the power-making front, the boat didn't have an invertor and, as such, there was no microwave oven - these are options for owners' boats - but it did have a battery charging via a 90amp alternator and six 105amp batteries for the house demands and two separate engine-start batteries, plus an emergency parallel facility.

The electrical system was pretty simple, with twin control panels, one of which was dedicated to dayboat use. The holding tank had a good chartering capacity of 500lt and could be emptied simply by switching on the macerator once the seacock in the portside engine room was opened.

Each hull had a water tank and a fuel tank. The owner wanted extra water capacity for bareboat chartering and the boat carried 1000lt of water, but only 500lt of fuel - an interesting comparison to the usual 800lt of water and 1200lt of fuel on owners' boats.

The fuel, water and waste-tank gauges were easily monitored alongside the day switch panel. The boat also had four high-water alarms for its watertight bulkheads and two collision bulkheads.

Another requirement of warm-climate cruising boats is refrigeration. The charterers of this boat, be they thirsty types or keen fishers, will find a 133lt galley fridge, a second 60lt galley fridge/freezer, and a huge dedicated 12V freezer in the saloon with thick foam insulation. There's also a foam-insulated moulded box in the bridge to which owners could add a fridge plate.

Hot water came to this boat via a heat exchanger and Shorepower connection. All the boat's cooking appliances ran off twin gas bottles kept in a vented locker in the foredeck. The gas lines had solenoids so you could switch the system off in the galley.

BUILDING BLOCKS Construction of the hull comprised solid GRP below the waterline and foam-cored composite decks above the waterline. The bulkheads were glass-encapsulated marine-ply and, along with all the internal furniture, they were glassed to the hull.

The hull features a central wave-breaker in its tunnel and skegs back aft to protect the props. While we chugged about at 11 knots, the boat didn't seem to pitch or hobbyhorse - that's probably due to the sub-surface bulbs extending forward of the bows.

The finish on this boat was also somewhat less glamorous than owners' boats as it leant more towards low-maintenance. Charters are tough on boats, so the galley counters were topped with laminate, there were lots of wipe-down gelcoat surfaces, and moderate use of myrtle timber joinery for doors, cabinetry and tables.

Storage space was in abundance wherever you looked. Each of the four cabins had hanging space and a series of lockers, there were storage cupboards in the saloon, and loads of shelves, cupboards and drawers in the galley.

But the biggest storage compartments were outdoors. You could actually climb inside the port and starboard foredeck lockers that formed the forward sealed part of each hull. The portside locker had a mounted spot for the RIB's 6hp outboard, while the starboard locker had the gas bottles and room for cleaning gear, fishing tackle, dive gear and more.

Meanwhile, alongside the central anchor-chain locker was a receptacle big enough to carry two domestic-sized garbage bins. Thus, your waste during liveaboard boating trips can be stowed well away from the living and cooking areas.

OUTDOOR LIVING Safe, survey-height bowrails with lifelines traced the periphery of this 11.6m by 5.3m catamaran. The deck was covered in non-skid and the walkways going forward of the cabin were wide enough to use at sea.

The cat's foredeck is the place to be when anchored and cruising for views. There's oodles of room for any amount of crew on the flat surface and, unlike a sailing cat, no central trampoline. That means more space for deckchairs and doing sundowners. Anchored, nose to the wind, the foredeck will remain breezy. The two pulpit seats on each bow will also come in handy for dolphin or dugong spotting.

The cockpit is somewhat smaller than I imagined, with a relatively low moulded rear flybridge awning that lanky crew might clobber with their craniums. But it is practical. The two opposing lounges/daybeds can seat four to six people and the faux teak decks (Flexiteak) will be easy to keep clean.

There's room for a table and chairs, access hatches to the valve sets for the engine-driven bilge pumps, plus a manual bilge pump, and the mandatory stainless steel gas barbie aft, where the smoke billows downwind. The cat has moulded steps down each hull, a swim ladder and handheld deck shower.

The tender, a substantial 12ft RIB, swung from stainless steel davits between the hulls. The attachment points were on tracks that let you slide the tender farther aft for easy dispatch. A series of pullies and jammers are used to launch the boat and lock it back on the davits.

Due to public liability issues when in charter mode, the RIB must be towed astern, and the centre section of the deck between the hulls forms a useful area for wetting a line or just hanging out.

INDOOR ACTION Views extend from the six-person L-shaped lounge in the saloon in all directions but down. Covered in a smart camel-coloured Warwick fabric, the lounge is positioned before a big timber table ready to host cards, drinks or dinner.

Abundant hatches direct fresh air and light inside, and there are also sliding saloon windows, all with flyscreens. A separate two-person lounge is nearby, as is a navigation area, storage locker and entertainment centre.

Stepping down from the saloon, each hull has a forward cabin with a double bed in the bow. The cabin sides are lined in simple frontrunner. The aft cabins have smaller double beds. There are no outboard-side hatches for cross-flow ventilation, yet the engines live under each aft mattress.

The portside head had an upgraded electric loo from, understandably, saltwater flush for charterers. The small shower stall comprised a curtain on a circular track. Charterers will probably find it easier, if not more exciting, showering on deck. Owners should think about a bigger shower stall.

The starboard galley was accommodating thanks to plenty of food-prep and storage space, twin fridges and a three-burner gas stove/oven. There is no 240V power for appliances when away from the marina, as there's no genset or invertor. At such times, someone will have to be on toast-grilling duty on gas grill. And don't burn the toast, as there's no extractor fan over that gas appliance.

CRUISING DOWN THE HIGHWAY The ladder to the bridge is easy enough to negotiate, though the trailing edge of the hatch has to be negotiated with care. The seating in the bridge is ample for six people on the two low-slung L-shaped lounges either side of the central helm console.

There was plenty of shade at midday thanks to the moulded GRP hardtop sitting on stainless steel struts.

The helm seat was raised to a commanding height and I noted clear vision over the bow and to the transom. And with the engine shafts so far apart, the boat was a breeze to turn on its length, even though the propellers on these baby Volvos weren't counter-rotating.

The twin 75hp motors pushed the 7500kg (dry) cat hull to a top speed of 11.2 knots at 2800rpm.

As a displacement boat, the Venturer 38 created a fair old wake out the back. For its intended purpose, the twin 75hp motors produced a useful 8.5kt cruise at about 2000rpm, where fuel consumption will be very low (Volvo claims 5lt per hour per motor at these revs). Frugality with fuel, among a lot of other things, is what you want from a cruising powercat.

Unfortunately for me, on a day when the ocean was boiling with more fish than the dinner table of a Catholic family on Good Friday, I didn't have a line to throw in. Charters won't be so unlucky, however, and I forecast many memorial days and nights eating fresh-caught mackerel, swimming at breakfast and lulling about the decks.

Boat: Seawind 1260
and heavily looking at a that was built at the yard during the middle of Covid. I'm not looking to start any battles but I'm seeing some items that I'd like to sort out from either being the or the owner.

If you have any then please DM me. I don't want to poop on the brand or the owner.

Boat: Seawind 1190 sport
built 1190 sport, delivered in 2020.

Everything Seawind built was exceptional. Fit and finish of the itself was absolutely top rate, and I'm very happy with the overall design, and the little things are very well thought out and executed.

But I did have some problems:

1. They did not properly winterize the before it across the north atlantic in march. It went through a serious cold snap on the way, and as a result there was some freeze damage. They were extremely attentive about getting it rectified to my satisfaction. Also they had indepth conversations with me about what they were doing to address the issue so this doesn't happen to someone else.

2. two of the three heat exchangers in my hydronic system had defects from webasto. I wish they had caught them at the factory. Seems they were not particularly experienced at systems. But again it seems like they have a quality system and i'd expect from my conversations that they would address it.

My last area of concern is with and electronic, and it's not seawind (installation and is exceptionally neat, professional, and organized compared to most other i've owned or worked on. All the systems were well designed and integrated and performed great. But it is mastervolt . I like the , but if you own anything of those brands, you are basically on your own. I've had trouble with the keypad (replaced once), and now, after several years, the just dies once in a while. Sucks on a zero visibility night watch. It comes back if i shut off and restart (jeez, ya'd think it is microsoft just died. Just 'he's dead Jim ..' everything external to it is ok, such as voltages on terminals.

So these are / / Mastervolt issues, not seawind. I'm ok with dying, **** happens, accept that i have to deal with it. The autopilot keypad happened on warranty period, Seawind just sent me a new one. Awesome . But the rest is post warranty, and i've tried to deal with the manufacturers to get . but as many forum members may know, they've all been bought up by an outfit called Brunswick (private equity rollup perhaps?) and there is essentially zero service. I've spent many hours on the , and sent 10's of emails ... nothing !

Conclusions - seawind veitnam has absolutely top quality, and my service experience has been great. But i would never buy anything from Brunswick if i had the choice. Their is fine but **** goes wrong and they are so just not there it amazed me. hope that changes, would buy there stuff again if they figured out service.

is grounded to the . I may have missed this as I am still going through things but I wonder if anyone knows what the practice was for Seawind in grounding the 1000XL models. This little ship did not have 120V shorepower and what got me thinking about this was adding incoming and contemplating grounding the 120V. I had the boat out of for quite a while and I don't seeing any grounding plate below the waterline but, to tell the truth, I wasn't thinking about this at the time and might not have noticed. Anyway, any info on Seawind practice in grounding and/or the would be very helpful

Boat: Seawind 1260
.

I recommend asking this question in the seawind facebook group. Took a few weeks to be added but there are several active owners.

Boat: Seawind 1260
this vessel and am currently going through each and every system. The prior owner did an ok job but like any boat it has its issues.

I determined that the biggest issues found during the were owner related and not craftsmanship from the . Nothing that isn’t manageable.

The one callout against seawind is the .

The poly have vetus . Alone these ports do not seem cruiser worthy as they use the to hold themselves in place. “vetus cap” if you wish. It’s like a big cork on a tank.

To stop the cork from popping out, seawind used a wedge that is braced against the bottom of the floor.

To me, this is bananas and I guess someone at seawind thought so as well because they sent out replacement kits with proper inspection ports that had .

My vessel does not have this upgrade yet but soon will.

Integrated energy operation solution customized for floating offshore wind power characteristics

Chen, Lingte (2024) Integrated energy operation solution customized for floating offshore wind power characteristics. PhD thesis, University of Glasgow.

Amidst global efforts towards carbon neutrality and energy transition, offshore wind power has emerged as a critical source of clean energy, attracting significant attention from governments and investors worldwide. This thesis provides an in-depth exploration of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines (FOWTs), focusing on their dynamic performance and power quality under varying wind and wave conditions. The overarching goal is to optimize the design, operation, and integration of FOWTs into renewable energy systems, thereby enhancing their contribution to sustainable energy generation.

By integrating mechanical and electrical models, this research deepens our understanding of FOWT dynamics, facilitating more accurate power system analysis. The study introduces fully coupled mathematical models that address existing research gaps, particularly in the context of Wind Power Ramp Events (WPREs). The investigation highlights the distinctive dynamic responses of FOWTs, which are markedly different from those of conventional bottom-fixed turbines, due to their floating nature. These findings underscore the importance of considering wave-induced loading and pitch motion in FOWT design and operation, as these factors significantly influence power output and operational stability.

In addition, the research tackles the challenges associated with the low-frequency power fluctuations and reduced power generation efficiency in FOWTs. A novel bus extension scheme is proposed, incorporating a sea wave band stop filter and a Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS) under Real-Time Coordinated Control (RTCC). This approach maximizes the potential of energy storage systems, improves power quality, and ensures better compliance with grid dispatch commands. The study's innovative control strategies, particularly the dynamic adjustment of Kalman filter parameters, offer significant advancements in mitigating WPREs and optimizing FOWT performance.

Furthermore, the thesis explores the integration of wind and solar power on a novel catamaran FOWT platform. Through dynamic simulations and control strategies, the study demonstrates the platform's robust dynamic stability and its ability to maintain consistent power generation under adverse sea conditions. The research also delves into the effectiveness of various wind-solar capacity ratios and PV system configurations, highlighting their potential to enhance power quality and energy complementarity. These insights pave the way for the development of integrated renewable energy systems, particularly in coastal environments.

In conclusion, this thesis makes significant contributions to the understanding of FOWT dynamics, the optimization of power quality, and the integration of wind and solar energy on floating platforms. The findings provide valuable guidance for policymakers, researchers, and industry stakeholders, driving the advancement of offshore renewable energy technologies. As the world continues its transition towards sustainable energy, the insights and innovations presented in this research will play a crucial role in shaping the future of offshore wind power and its integration with other renewable energy sources.
