Pop Yachts - brokers or scammers?

  • Add to quote

I see their listings plastered all over Ebay and at times on CL - the boats tend to be older and all are overpriced for the Florida market - in the body of each ad is a come-on for people to join their brokerage to sell boats - pretty tacky. Just curious if anyone has bought or sold a boat through them ?- they do at least provide lots of pictures

I bought one thru them, out of state, and it was a good experience. No games, straight forward.

I recently inquired about a boat that POP Yachts represented. The broker that contacted me had the customer skills one would usually stereotype with a used-car salesman. In general, the broker did several things to piss-me-off. I told him that my interest in this boat or any other boat that POP Yachts represent is gone. I will not deal with them again.

I looked at one they had listed. Broker was friendly and helpful. I ended up not purchasing the boat but I had no issues with POP Yachts I'm guessing the experience varies from broker to broker.

My complaint is that you have to register before you can even look at all of the photos. I'm a potential buyer and you're going to force me to register before you'll even show me what you have for sale!?! Give me a break!!! That's just stupid. Imagine how long Walmart would have stayed in business if, when he opened the first one, Sam Walton had stood at the door with a clipboard and said, "You can't come in and look around until you let me collect some information about you." Sadly, PopYachts is not the only one that does this sort of thing. It just amazes me that there are business people out there who are so completely brain-dead that they think -- just because it's the internet -- it is okay to throw roadblocks in front of potential customers who want to get some information.

You mean like. Mmm. Costco. ......

No. Not like Costco. Unless they've changed their policy in the last few years, Costco will let you come in and look around without joining. You can check prices, browse through the whole store, and so on. Only when you decide that you want to buy something are you then required to join. If PopYachts followed that sort of policy I would have no complaints. But PopYachts won't let you browse around -- they won't let you see the pictures of the boats they have -- until you register. That is stupid. Just plain STOOOPID!

I believe that each POP Yachts broker has the latitude to set their own policies for dealing with customers. Many salespeople feel that you have entered a series of transactions and negotiations from the minute that they pick up the phone; I'll do something for you only if you do something for me. I used to be in sales training, and I recognize the behavior. Before I made a 5-hour car trip to see a boat, I asked the POP Yachts broker for the HIN of the vessel I was interested in. He flatly refused, explaining that he thought that I would use it to identify the seller, and cut him out of his commission. He stated that he would provide the HIN and answers to other questions that I had after I signed a contract to buy the boat. I found this unacceptable and lost interest in dealing with either him or POP Yachts. Shortly thereafter I was contacted by another POP Yachts broker who sent me a link to where I could get a free copy of a "Carfax for boats" that had been done on that vessel. I never looked at it, because I had moved on.

I had a bad experience with a PopYacht broker. I will never even look at one of their listings again.

One question for you all who have recently dealt with POP Yachts. When I was looking 2+ years ago it seemed to me that they were claim jumping for sale listings. As in they were listing boats for sale that were not actually listed with them...in an effort to get you to work with them to buy a boat. Have any of you come across this??

d0n- "you're going to force me to register before you'll even show me " I expect that is just one more example of a company (in this case, the parent company itself) trying to monetize everything, gathering up your demographics to sell them. Someone is willing to pay them for every "potential boat buyer" they can name, and when you sign up...you've been datamined. So, step right up and join the game, send the emails to your favorite local FCC chairperson or other deserving entity. Heck, its only karma, right?(G) They seem like an "MLS" for people who want to be self-employed boat brokers. You find a boat someone is selling, copy it to your PY account...and if you're lucky, get a split. Or something to some similar effect, from what I've seen. And just like real estate brokers (who aren't "Realtors®") hey, if the broker is on their toes...all the same to the buyer, right?

I contacted them a couple years back about a boat and had a good experience with the broker I dealt with. Did not get past the offer stage. They use a marketing automation system for ongoing marketing (which I don't see a lot of in this industry) which is the reason for the quicker push to collect an email address (my opinion from looking from the outside in). I got the feeling they are more of an "association" type of arrangement selling leads to various brokers.

I don't think I'd call Popyachts itself a "scam". They are more like the real estate MLS, or Amazon, ebay, Alibaba, and every eastern bazaar. It seems pretty much that anyone can sign up, use the Popyachts "umbrella", and then proceed to try posting and selling pretty much anything--without being bothered by things like having or needing a broker's license or other professional oversight.

reviews on pop yachts

No, nothing like an MLS. Yachtworld is the MLS and Popyachts was banned from there. So the answer to the original question is a resounding "YES!!". They supposedly had a boat in Maine for sale, broker was in FL. This was a couple years ago. They kept harvesting and harvesting my info. But would never tell me where the boat was. Supposedly in "Saco, ME." It was a lie. Too good to be true. They steal Craigslist photos and post them themselves, then approach the seller and try to get a commission. They charge fees to buyers, etc., etc. Absolutely no ethics. Now there's a new one that comes after you through Craigslist offering "free FSBO postings," then torments you by phone until you pay them $300.00. I offered to provide the guy's number to the Maine Attorney General's office and never heard from him again.

POPYACHTS is a scam. Here is what I think they do. They look for boats on Craigslist and ebay and contact the seller and get them to agree to have them represent their boat. They then mark up the original seller price 2X and then make a really flashy ad on Ebay and Craigslist hoping to get you to over pay for the boat. How do I know this? I had been watching a boat in the Pittsburgh area. It had been listed for a long time on craigslist locally. This ad stood out because the seller was listing it as a Chris Craft Baja. Two manufacturers that were never related. The boat was also a wreck and had been sitting out for a long time. One day while looking at local ebay ads I saw the same boat and same pics listed by POPYACHTS. The ad was glowing and misrepresented the actual condition of the boat. I contacted the POPYACHTS broker regarding the boat. They got back to me. When I said why was the boat listed locally for a price that was half of what they were listing it for. He then became angry with the question and said owners can list them locally for what they want. So I am not actually sure if the local owner was even aware that their boat was listed on ebay. I suspect not. I would say, if you are consider a boat listed by POPYACHTS to search for the boat locally and do the deal with the owner and cut out mark up of the middle man. Pretty sleazy company in my opinion. I suspect any positive reviews are made up by the company. I would avoid.

Every time an add for a POP yachts boat comes up there is an add for Seatow on the page. what is that telling you.

Tells me seatow buys promotion ads.

Ya. you are going to buy adds where your customers are, tells me they get a lot of business from POP 's customers

Brokers or scammers? Maybe a little of both. I really hate to give up my information, or have to speak with a broker, just to look at photos of a boat online.

Free 1 yr seatow low level membership

It could also be that the self-employed "local representatives" were scamming both the owners AND Popyachts by putting the boat on ebay without the knowledge of either. Popyachts makes it clear that they are only going to take a 10% commission. But like the Uber drivers who rudely embarrass Uber...the contractors might be up to anything else.

Curiously, I just got an email from a Pop Yachts scammer broker in Bradenton, and the boat is on Craigslist in Maine. Wanted to get my phone number so he could "call and explain the process." Said he wanted to market the boat and charge any fees to the buyer. So, Shane, the answer is a resounding "NO." There's a reason (I told him) Pop Yachts is banned from Yachtworld. I also warned him if he ripped and represented my photos in any way, I'd be calling both the Maine and Florida Attorney General's offices.

It might be worth contacting Popyachts about this guy. THEY may not want to be affiliated with him either. Their basic concept, to have a wide listing service other than YW, and to provide "local brokers" to make it different from just a laundry list, isn't so crazy. But if they are not vetting the "local brokers"... Well, even Youtube has been having problems cancelling pedophile accounts, and Amazon can't seem to get rid of the counterfeiters. Scams appear wherever there's money to be stolen. Ergh, made.

No to contacting Pop Yachts about anyone. The business model is the problem. They rip photos off FSBO's, then try to claim a commission. They got booted from YW for a reason. I mean, how BAD do you have to be to get kicked out of the only multiple listing service for yacht brokerage in the U.S.?

I don't know why (or for sure if) YW kicked them off, but since the Popyachts operation would seem to be a competitor to YW, not just a simple brokerage, that in itself would be reason to kick them off regardless to any questions of misbehavior. Very few businesses, including hobby web forums that depends on viewers and advertisers, allow competitors to set up camp on them. If PY is doing all that you say they are, a complaint with the FTC might get them shut down. Ripping off other people's photos and "trying to claim a commission" when there was no prior arrangement would violate numerous laws and probably qualify for prosecution under RICO as well. Which would make them a great target for any federal agency, assuming that's what has been going on.

So, I haven't seen anyone on here from the seller perspective...and while every situation is different, I seriously doubt POP is advertising and trying to sell boats at 2X the seller's asking price. Why do I know this? Because I am selling my boat through POP and they are advertising less than 10% higher and that is their commission. Again, just a different perspective from the seller's side of the story.[/QUOTE]

it looks like a scam

reviews on pop yachts

Everyone's experience may be different, but I find the listings annoying and basically click bait. We did contact a POP Yachts sales agent about a boat, and when we met to see the boat it was clear that he knew nothing about it, and probably had never met the owner. I can usually find a listing for the same boat on multiple sites so I usually favor the more legit, local agent.

That's what they do. For example, a recent Dyer 29 (nice little downeaster ********) was on the local Craigslist for $75,000.00. I think the actual listing broker (who had a legitimate listing) and the owner got wind of it and it was taken down. The number to call, for a Maine boat, was in Florida. Same number as I called a few years ago for a Pearson 365 that looked great and was claimed to be in Saco, Maine. I called the boatyards in Saco, asked around and the boat didn't exist. Click bait. When I called, they had to "coordinate with the owner." It dragged out awhile and then other P365's were offered. Scam. I also researched complaints against them. There were a lot, overcharges, etc., etc.

Over all, my experience with purchasing a boat thru Pop Yachts was generally ok. I am used to buying a boat from either a dealer or a private owner, and within a couple hours the deal is done. The closing on this deal was delayed, as the seller was in S. Africa. I am now waiting on the title, as there was a lien on the boat and this is causing a delay in refinancing my loan for a better rate which may cause a higher rate. Who knows. The overall experience was similar to buying a house, not a boat. From start to finish, which finish hasn't arrived yet, wer'e over a month plus.

The worst absolutely a bogus company. I contacted Guy about a boat and he could not give a crap about me or my questions or the boat if it was even real. I get better vibes from the IRS. Do yourself a favor stay away from Pops because you will get garbage service.

Invest in your employees more; consider not cancelling your employees contract because they don't meet the ridiculous standard of cold calling hundreds & hundreds of customers when they can still provide boots on the ground company photography & representation in their designated territory. I provided boots on the ground representation and photography for a listing when my contract was unceremoniously cancelled- RIGHT as I was finally involved in my first sale (how convenient for pop). It seemed shady on the higher ups part as well to cancel my contract as soon as I was involved in a deal closing; like they didn't want me to get any $$ from the deal because I had carefully constructed hundreds of cold emails every week for months but it wasn't enough for them. I emailed the CEO Lawrence asking for clarification and was never responded to; probably because he knows they were not only wrong to cut me out of the deal I was a rep for but potentially illegal. They owe me for this ONE deal I got to be involved in after months of sending hundreds of emails to customers and making several trips to add photography to listings- not like I ever got paid for anything else from them. They don't want to reward their employees for work they've done, unless the employee sends something like thousands of emails in months, as if potential clients want to be constantly contacted like that. I didn't think they were a scam until they cancelled my contract like they did and made sure I didn't get paid a single cent. Thanks for nothing POP.

I've been very interested in this boat for a while. When I call POP Yachts to see if the boat was still available the broker told me yes and when would I like to see it I text her back a date and time and she told me she would contact me the next day. I didn't hear from her the next day or the day after that ,I got a text to call her. She told me the owner didn't want to come down unless I was serious about purchasing the boat which I told her I was but I had some questions since the transmission wasn't working. She then demanded to know how I was going to pay for the boat and that she was too busy to answer my questions, and beside you said it would be six months before I could purchase it. I told her that she was wrong maybe she was so busy that it was somebody else she is thing of. Now she can kiss my butt goodbye .

Awful Experiences. Be very careful. After two experiences personally, both boats were very, very over-priced and very, very over-represented as to quality, etc. They put in fictitious value and quality upgrades that don't exist. Recommend that you "Stay far away".

Had a great experience working with Pop RVs. They connected the buyer and seller well. Our representative for closing Tracy Howard was especially amazing and always kept us in the loop with what was happening. Pop RVs is especially lucky to have someone like that work for their company. I would highly recommend using Pop RVs again to a friend if they were looking for a RV!

I saw a adv on craigslist, from pop yachts, got a few emails, but couldn't get appt to see the boat. I suspect the boat was sold and the seller didn't notify pop yachts. they sent me some other boat ads, but couldn't get info on the boat I wanted. This was not worth my time. maybe you have better luck.

Beware of this business. I dealt with a sales person named "Laura" in Littleton. I was looking for a boat broker that could find me a boat anywhere. This was well understood. Like all sales people, they think that the longer they have you on the hook, the better chance they have of getting business. For 4 days, this girl lies to me about the role of Pop Yachts and tells me they do everything when come to FINALLY find out, they ONLY sell their own boats and ARE NOT actual boat brokers. BLATANTLY LIED TO ME FOR DAYS. Boats are expensive. Do you want a company that lies to you handling your million dollar boat purchase??? Yikes.

They gave a honest evaluation of my RV and sold it quicker than I anticipated. Bradley was my salesman he did a good job I would work with him again.

Ineffectiveness Algorithmic Frustration

These are just algorithms inserted into search results that you can do yourself. They referred me to one like the one "I" found, then continued to email me insignificant ads I'd already deleted. They receive 150% of a real estate commission but do not perform any work. They sent me a pertinent advertisement but declared it to be in "good" condition and sent pictures of lots of mildew (YUCK) and deteriorated tires. The company is a disaster; computer-generated processes fund incompetent and naive buyers of YOUR cash. DO NOT LIST, DO NOT BUY!!!

A bad experience

I had hired Jeff from Bay Area to sell my boat. Jeff instead helped me help me sell my vessel ...I had a bad experience, and I wasted my time for nearly a year with this business I would not suggest. Do your advertising and avoid wasting your time.

A simple and easy experience. Loren was an absolute pleasure working with me from my initial inquiry through the closing. Sellers were beneficial, and the boat was in perfect in excellent condition.

Poor compared to the reach

Garbage. The "We add our commission on top" technique is attractive. However, it's not practical in reality. Beware of this sales gimmick. This artificially high price discourages buyers from making a deal they would generally consider at the average (non-POP) cost. If they decide to submit an offer, POP would still be looking for their share of the commission, and therefore sellers are left with the burden of paying. I've had the pleasure of dealing with several POP agents and reps; they're incredibly shady and misleading. Another thing they won't inform you of is that they don't promote on YachtWorld. They have a website, which is poor compared to the reach of listings on YachtWorld.

It was a pleasant experience

Angie and Lauren from Pop Yachts are 15 out of 10! Both went the extra mile to aid me in my decision-making process and concluded the transaction smoothly with the appropriate amount of accurate and timely details. It was a pleasant experience.

I'm very disappointed.

I have a long tale and lots of running around. Then, when I declared that I wanted to inspect the boat in the event of potential purchase consideration, I was informed that the ship was under contract. WHY DIDN'T THEY TELL ME THE BOAT WAS UNDER CONTRACT IN THE FIRST PLACE? I'm very disappointed.

The second salesperson was excellent

In the final analysis, using Pop Yachts worked well - they assisted in the identification of a buyer who was worthy and negotiated the price and was highly efficient in executing to close the deal. However, the initial salesperson I worked with over nine months was inconsistent, not a good communicator for prospects, and was generally ineffective. The second salesperson was excellent and completed the sale in just a few months.

3 rating

Overall, the experience was poor all around.

The sales rep (buyer agent) was not quick to respond to emails and would often forget the attachment to his email claimed was attached. Invitations to visit and try the boat showed the boat's location in the incorrect marina. This was not noted by the POP Rep on-site in two instances. POP did not influence the vendor since it took about a month to complete the transaction, even though my funds were in escrow. Overall, the experience was poor all around.

This is a prank. BEWARE!

I put my boat up for sale on different websites. Pop called me asking me to allow them to post it too. After the first week, nobody came to the event to take pictures. I was again contacted one week later and told that their "best guy" would reach out. In the meantime, I'm heading back to the north, and I've already placed the boat in storage. I'm still receiving emails even after requesting that they take my name off their list of contacts, and one of them acknowledged it. BEWARE! ! This is a prank.

The buyer must be aware

Send an "alternate" list of overpriced boats. Two times, the boats advertised were sold. A second offer was made but not accepted by the buyer because it appeared to be "too low." There are a lot of comments on forums for boating that say brokers usually write reviews, and the buyer must be knowledgeable. They must provide all requests, and the buyer must know market conditions.

Great people.

Pop Yachts did a very great job with my experience in purchasing. There was only one issue: nobody at the dock the day I went to look around and pick the yacht up. The company claims that this happened on a Saturday, so I suppose it was expected since they didn't have an agent in the region. Concerning everything else, as far as the purchase was concerned, they dealt with everything swiftly and professionally. I was grateful for their assistance with this purchase. The people I spoke to were highly knowledgeable. I got the documents, and it appears that everything is in order. Great people.

At first, I wasn't sure about the need to work with an agent

At first, I wasn't sure about the need to work with an agent. But when the procedure progressed, I was happy to be able to POP and Scott to my side. The process went smoothly, and I am now a lovely vessel's proud owner wife and I was both sad when our 28-foot Bayliner was destroyed in a storm that was not named that had winds of 80 MPH. However, we are delighted to have a new 28-foot Sea-Ray and are looking towards the coming boating season.

My calls, messages, and emails were not answered promptly

My calls, messages, and emails were not answered promptly—prolonged communication. The salesperson was extremely friendly. However, I'm not looking to make friends. I'm looking to purchase a boat, and things went down quite quickly online while waiting for my phone calls, messages, or emails to be answered. I didn't get a second vessel. Sorry if this sounds like quite a harsh critique, but that's how things went.

A few days wasted

As a seller, I'd never list a boat on POP Yachts again. I'm sure that buyers have the same thing. The process took five times longer and did not materialize. They repeatedly asked for an extension of the agreement, with the possibility of verifying the buyer's funds. 4.5 months later, I chose to cancel my listing. A few days wasted, Do yourself a favor and join a different company!

Advertising is not up to scratch!

Advertising is not up to scratch! The chaparral 260ssi from 2002 has 276 hours and 827 !! (i have evidence) After spending a lot of money (a thousand to a few thousand) and agreeing to a price, they go away and don't seem to care about their loss as buyers. They are also opposed to communication because they're at fault. They are just trying to sell, earn their commission, and don't care about other things. Avoid them!!

Would need to complete the paperwork on my own

Pop Yachts was outstanding at helping us pick the right boat. But, the closing of the transaction took two months to complete. I still don't have my license to register the vessel under my name. It was a constant call to inquire with all the girls at the office the same questions, day in and day out. In the end, I'd probably hire them again, but I would need to complete the paperwork independently.

It was extremely smooth

As a buyer, I experienced no problems dealing with the POP Yachts... the only reason I didn't give them five stars is that the title transfer can take a little longer than purchasing directly through the dealer. The overall experience for me was easy, Ana did a great job coordinating the closing process, and Ty was fantastic. I was a bit concerned about working with a broker after reading all the negative reviews. However, it was extremely smooth...again as a purchaser, not a seller; it'll be a different experience.

We're enjoying using the new vessel!

We have been looking for an exact boat for a long time, and Pop is a reliable source for the Florida market for ships effectively. Paul, our Pop Yachts contact, was accommodating in bridging crucial communications between the seller and us. We found the vessel of interest on the web and inquired about it; Paul contacted me promptly and was extremely knowledgeable, attentive, and supported by a top Pop team to ensure that things went as smoothly as possible. We're enjoying using the new vessel!

Brain dead to handle

Brain dead to handle. I asked for the bare minimum information on an offer ( multiple times ), but no follow-up. The seller was a petty one who listed with them! The boat is not sold, and I cannot even have someone answer my basic questions regarding the ship. They continue to send me additional listings to check out despite my request to stop. This is a terrible company!

This could be the most unprofessional broker

This could be the most unprofessional broker I've dealt with. They send numerous emails that are confused often and cancel appointments frequently. Also, I schedule appointments for times that they've informed me there's no time. Four (4) weeks of requesting to visit five (5) "vessels," I haven't seen any. The only appointment that wasn't canceled was that the representative wasn't located at the contact number I was given.

I wouldn't recommend using them.

I would if I had the option of rating lower than one star. They lack integrity in the eyes of the buyer. A single agent covers an extensive territory and represents many buyers. They could be in a similar boat. The agent's job is to represent you as a buyer. However, they will take a long time to position you as they wait for new offers. They don't update you, and you must follow them constantly. I wouldn't recommend using them.

The sales Rep was not knowledgeable or willing to complete the legwork

The sales Rep was not knowledgeable or willing to complete the legwork. She kept accusing the owner of not responding or providing him with the information I was looking for. It was very shady to share the owner's knowledge. When I finally got the owner's phone number, I found him friendly and eager to answer my questions. I explained my situation, and he claimed to have never been asked about any issues I'd asked the agent about. I would have opted for a different broker if I was not looking for the boat they had advertised. Positively the closing coordinator and office staff were easy to work with professionally. I believe that the salesperson should be working on a used vehicle lot.

If I could only give zero start

If I could only give zero stars, I'd do it. Jack Osteen kept harassing me to get my boat sold through his text messages and continued to harass me, even after I asked him to stop. It eventually to the point that I became angry. I wouldn't offer my business to someone such as that. No, stop texting means that you stop texting. It isn't a requirement to continue messaging to gain your desired outcome. I have a screenshot of his number and his name to demonstrate it.

Don't believe the information they give you.

Please don't believe the information they give you. Get it down in writing first. Put it all down in writing. And there are too many net numbers around. Please look at the figures before weighing anything, or else it will be ( but don't forget things ). Make a list of your possessions and boat toys, or else they could disappear. Chips can be traded on you as well. Review all your possessions and do not listen to their advice about them. It's a fine thing.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be using POP Yachts when searching for a new boat.

The salesperson was there at the right time to take excellent photos. His follow-up calls were terrific when there was a potential buyer. When I had a strong proposal, and it was time to present the boat and show it, the salesperson didn't lead to the ship. I showed him the boat, performed the demo, and sold myself. I received a text from him 45 minutes into the demonstration, and he told me that he had overslept. This is not working, in my opinion. Nisha was fantastic in executing the closing. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be using POP Yachts when searching for a new boat.

I enjoyed working with

Mark Eleffsen was one of the top salesmen I enjoyed working with. He always replied promptly to my way and was never in a hurry to make the sale. The finance department was a bit sloppy in my situation because there was much communication. It took them nearly two months to prepare the paperwork and send me the boat's title.

Pop Yachts did a good job

Pop Yachts did an excellent job putting my boat up on their website, but all of the work was entirely for the buyer. With a commission of $2500, I would have preferred somebody from the company to take care of some personal things, such as meeting the surveyor and potential buyers. The closing documents had an incorrect address that they rectified. My broker did not contact me following the selling of the boat to express congratulations or even a thank you.

Capt. Mark is the most professional

Capt. Mark is the most professional. I've worked with him for nearly one year to find my boat. He was on hand at night or day to answer my questions. I highly recommend Mark! I had a challenging closing that was plagued by numerous problems. It took me months to sort out with little or any assistance from pop boats. I was even paid a fee for closing. The seller promised me a lot of things that no one was able to keep up with.

He dropped Popyachts after three months.

We only had one show in six months. Our rep was ignorant of boats. She was on the dock and demanded: "the captain" (the owner) show us her craft! Communication was poor and slow all over all levels. Many Popyacht executives and representatives seemed like they were smug or overly defensive. Contract changes took a long time to complete. The rep supervisor's emails or the main office did not get a response. We needed to contact them multiple times to end the contract. Pop yachts claimed that they didn't cost us any amount. They cost us the top-selling season. Our slip neighbor was more thoughtful. He dropped Popyachts after three months.

They don't have any knowledge of the boats they offer

They don't have any knowledge of the boats they offer. They contact people who have added to them and then switch it to pop yachts. They don't know what they're selling and are knowingly misleading about the boat. I drove 3/12 hours to view a ship advertised as having 500 hours on motors. When I looked at the gauges, they indicated 1950 hours. The broker I had contact with was Mike Powell down in south Florida. Do not get involved with this person or Jenny Hays.

Bradley Vincent of Pop Yachts was a great help

Bradley Vincent of Pop Yachts was a great help with the boat I was considering. The deal was concluded until the lender made a mistake. Sorry that it didn't occur, but I'll be in contact with Bradley shortly.

Communtication and Knowledge Problems

The representative for the region. I purchased a boat through Pop Yachts, and at the beginning, everything seemed satisfactory. They told me to reach out to the agent listing the ship to make an appointment to visit the vessel. It worked, but then it became apparent that the agent representing the listing was entirely on the seller's side. There was no representation on my side, which will never happen again. The problem began because the agent listing Pop Yachts was not on the same page with the office. He would say something, and his counterpart at the Pop Yacht office would tell me something completely different. The pace of things slowed down at the time of closing the same way I did. I was required to make 99 percent of my phone calls to discover what was going on, as they were too busy to respond to calls. I'm going to reconsider using Pop Yachts in the future.

The article is unlikely to be released

I am currently searching for a diesel-powered pusher, and whenever I see an RV with a pop as the seller, I look. The article is unlikely to be released, but if for any reason, I'd recommend staying clear of them. These salespeople for used cars are among the most difficult to handle. They were meant to be an exciting experience and transformed into a total failure. If you're either a buyer or seller, avoid them.

All in all, I'm satisfied with the service offered by POP!

All in all, I'm satisfied with the service offered by POP! I found myself in a situation where I didn't have enough time to market my RV myself, and I needed to relocate it within some time. The POP team did an excellent job marketing the RV and managing the closing process. It cost me a small amount of money. However, it removed the majority of the stress of selling from me. I can also tell you from experience that the buyer was pleased with the result and POP. POP transaction.

Don't waste time!

We listed our boat in July. Our salesperson informed us that our ship was supposed to be listed at a much higher price than the amount we started at. She told us that she would sell it in two weeks at this price. We are just before the end of October, and after two price drops to $10,000, we have decided to end our contract. Many promises, but no results! Don't waste time! Nobody has ever stepped foot on our boat.

This is an unending nightmare that will never be over.

I was sold a boat with an unpaid title that was not cleared. There were leins due to the seller's delinquent property taxes. I've been unable to transfer the ownership or obtain a correct registration because of this lapse in judgment. This has led to thousands of dollars in fines by the licensing department. I think a brokerage should verify all information on the property they represent. This is an unending nightmare that will never be over.

Title and registration nightmare

Excellent experience for my wife and me. It has become a nightmare for the losing team. The sales representative and Closing associate responded to every question we asked, and emails were replied to within under 24 hours. The biggest problem was the title and registration documents we paid Pop Yachts to complete. The papers took almost an entire month to finish, and sure of our records were not properly filed. We needed to mail them new documents nearly a month after the sale. It is recommended to purchase your boat via Pop Yachts for safety. However, ithandlinghe the title and registration papers in case you wish to have them completed within the timeframe you want them to be. is recommended

It's a disaster!

They offered me a boat and a trailer, but the title is not clear or transferable on the trailer. It's a disaster! I've spent more than 1 1/2 years trying to resolve this issue (Covid issues had an impact). The Lien Holder has not responded as they cannot obtain an identification Tag for the trailer and cannot contact PopYachts. I suggest you avoid Gary Lochte, the Broker.

Absolutely the worst business ethics I've seen.

The brokerage played on the widow's feelings and sold the boat for 50% of its fair market value. The commissions they paid were over 40% of the amount Sellar got. If you're selling, be aware that these individuals only care for themselves and make their money without consideration for the interests of the boat owner. In any other profession, they'd be in jail! The worst business ethics I've seen.

It was a complete wasted time watching the market fall in value!

I sold my boat through Pop Yachts and had an awful experience with the agent who listed my boat. It was a completelysted time watching the market fall in value! I received more than forty "buyer registration, and nobody saw them. The listing agent did not respond to my emails to their supervisor.

The experience was beyond

The experience was beyond our expectations right from the start with the initial inquiry on the process of creating an offer to purchase our boat. Each time I called for help, they answered the phone and acknowledged my name. My salesperson Jim Spicer was very responsive and did a great job taking the pictures and videos on my vessel. The person who purchased my boat told me they believed it was my video which had the most influential factor in her decision to visit the boat in person and ultimately buy our boat. John Lombardi made the process more accessible of the buyer's offer and the final sale agreement. Not to mention, Christine Harrower, our closing advocate, did an excellent job in ensuring we had the proper documents to fill out and provided precise instructions on what documents to send her daily updates to us every day on the progress of closing. I recommend this business to anyone interested in buying or selling an RV or boat.

Extremely knowledgeable and friendly

I've never heard of Pop Yachts before but was advised by one of my friends.

They were extremely knowledgeable and friendly.

Their assistance will allow you to gain access to a wider market.

The process is simple and fast.

They manage the majority of customer interactions and only send valid offers to me for attention.

It was worth every cent.

My experience with Pop Yachts was great! My associate Brandon was with me all the way, offering advice on my Boat description, pricing, and adjustments when necessary. The span of advertising is the key. They reach a very large market, and take ALL calls with offers and help to filter out the non- serious offers. Would use them again 👍

Excellent Class A RV Buying Experience

I recently purchased a Class A motor home after a long search. Without seeking PopRVs out, I purchased it through them. I’m very pleased that I did. The rep, Sonny, was extremely helpful and patient with me and my specific desires. The Closing Advocate, Tracy, was SUPER. She was very congenial and professional and walked me through the process in a friendly manner. The listing agent, Raymond, went above and beyond what you get in today’s world of customer service. Everyone treated me with respect and kindness throughout the entire experience. I certainly recommend PopRVs.

Thank you for the outstanding review! We love hearing how helpful, professional and responsive our Pop Team is. We are truly grateful to have them support our customers as you've described. We appreciate you choosing Pop and wish you many great adventures in your new RV.

Impressive!

Pop RVs is an impressive resource for exploring the pre owned RV market. Wide variety of listings. Friendly people, good communication, helpful advice. Professional closing services. No fees up front. We want to replace camping with travel and are listing our 2018 travel trailer with Pop. We will then use them to buy a recent model class B or B+.

BEWARE This company will spam your inbox until no end. Even after opting out of their emails and multiple direct emails to be left alone the emails continue. Brian Elsner is wildly unprofessional and his sales tactics are not only harassing and unprofessional but illegal. There are way too many options out there to sell a boat and I would take my business elsewhere.

Very Pleasant Experience

Pop RV -We worked with Trey Ricard & Bob Reilly (local agent) to try to sell our class B 2015 Roadtrek CS Adventurous. They were both very prompt and efficient in replying to our calls, emails & texts. We found a buyer (our neighbor) before they could produce a buyer. However, we were very pleased with the service and would highly recommend Pop RV if you need to sell your vehicle, whatever it may be.

Date of experience : 13 February 2023

Thank you for sharing your experience with Pop RVs and for considering us for selling your 2015 Roadtrek CS Adventurous. We are glad to hear that Trey and Bob provided prompt and efficient communication and service throughout the process, even though you found a buyer on your own. We appreciate your recommendation and hope you will keep us in mind for any future RV needs.

Highly recommend

Popsells did an incredible job for me. From beginning to end, they kept me informed every step of the way. The first buyer they brought me purchased my boat, and the closing process was seamless and very fast. My representative, Steve Sotelo, was knowledgeable, prompt, and overall an awesome guy.

Date of experience : 18 October 2023

Thanks for the outstanding review, Jonathon! We are so glad to hear that we were able to quickly find a buyer for your boat and the Pop Team made closing seamless and fast. We hope to have the pleasure of working with you again in the future.

Put my mind at ease

I was nervous about purchasing a used RV from out of state! The staff at Pop RV helped put my mind at ease throughout the process by being quick to respond, providing detailed responses to my questions, carefully walking me through the process, and keeping me advised of progress toward release of title after closing. Well worth the closing fee to work with people who are knowledgeable and helpful. Big thanks to Brandon, Tracy, and Shane!

Bought a 2010 Andros Bonefish 22

Bought a 2010 Andros Bonefish 22. Pop Yachts Reps (Cindy, Hannah, and Mike) were all OUTSTANDING as well as Rock Solid Funding for financing. If your looking for a boat I’d highly Recommend them, they made the process as seamless as possible and responded within minutes if I had a question of concern. Do yourself a favor and use Pop Yachts for your boat purchases, I will definitely use them again if I buy another boat in the future.

Hanna Banana earns POP 9.5 stars

Pop is the greatest platform I’ve ever experienced is selling a unit, I had been trying for 6 months on my own with not much action. 2 days after listing I received a offer for $4000 more than what I was trying to get. Roy my personal representative was to my place with in days to make video and take pictures ( all at pops expense) showing it very well. My heart and greatest appreciation goes to “Hanna Banana “for her tireless dedication and ability to handle a very complex closing over the weekend. She started @ 5 stars and by time everything was finished I moved her up to 9.5 ( I’m a communist judge and never give 10.0) . She is a true professional and reflects the dedication that POP has for clients, they should be proud to have her on board

I contacted Paul Albert to sell our xpress skiff. He immediately got back to us and came by the next morning to take pictures, videos, and make an amazing advertisement. He was professional, and the communication was 5 star! I would highly recommend Paul at Pop Yachts for any buying or selling of boats. Thanks again!

The appointment to view the RV was made quickly and we are able to conclude our business within one day. The RV offered was an excellent condition which was also reflected in the advertisement. The consultants for getting the RV financed registered and in my possession, we're all very professional and extremely competent. The whole process was finished within 7 days over the Christmas holidays which I thought was next to impossible. Thank you very much I will recommend you in the future. Marty Novinski

From beginning to end POP RVs has been exceptional with communicating to me the selling status of my RV. I've spoken with their various departments from coast-to-coast and have never even had one dropped call. We have employed PDF's, phone messages, phone calls, emails, and electronic signatures; all without a single hiccup. I've haven't met one employee in person. To me that's pretty amazing and shows the versatility and knowledge they've created in their marketing program. I'm very impressed and I have a degree in Advertising and Marketing. I would use POP RVs in the future - without question. Randy V.

Perfect transaction!

If you're the seller of a moderate-to-high-end vessel, the challenge is getting your vessel in front of the right buyer (who most often will not be anywhere near your market). POP Yachts is UNIQUELY built to do just this. Seamless process, professional and courteous staff, and in my case a full $10K more than I could get in my geographic area. WIN/WIN. Worth every dime.

Date of experience : 03 August 2022

Our experience with using PopRV as our broker in the recent RV purchase was excellent. They truly did not miss a detail and the level of communication was high. Each touch point and each staff person did a really good job and that made much less work and aggravation for us. It is the first time we've had a fully enjoyable purchase of this nature with no frustration.

We sold our vintage Airstream with POP RV and the experience was great. They work diligently to get a fair deal done for the buyers and sellers. The communication was top notch from start to finish. We had tried several different avenues on our own to sell it but POP was definitely our best route. The entire team is absolutely awesome to work with especially Christine, Rome and Abe. They take all the worry out securing the funds and the paperwork. We couldn’t be happier with the entire process. We definitely will use POP again either buying or selling. Thank y’all so much for a fantastic experience!!!

Date of experience : 15 July 2022

Excellent! Our professional team strives for 100% satisfaction. It was our pleasure to help you find the right buyer for your classic Airstream. All the best in your next adventures!

A great, safe way to sell our motorhome

Just a short note to say a big thank you to each and everyone on the PopSell RV team who have worked directly or indirectly in bringing the sale of our Bay Star to a satisfying conclusion. Needless to say, we initially were more than a little anxious about the whole sale process. PopSell’s professionalism and swift teamwork were impressive and reassuring. A special thanks to our local rep, Tom, for his help in chasing prospective buyers and skills in securing a successful outcome. It was a pleasure to do business with all of you. Keep up the good work and thanks again for helping us move on to our next adventure.

Is POP Yachts a Scam? Why Many Believe it Is

reviews on pop yachts

In its own words, POP Yachts is a boat broker. Otherwise, its version of an About Us page is filled with the kind of information that most people would expect, which is to say, a description of what it does as well as how it does it but touched up to make it as presentable as possible. Something that isn’t particularly uncommon for business websites to say the least. However, if interested individuals choose to look further using search engines, chances are good that they will turn up further web pages on other webpages with much more unpleasant things to say about the boat broker. Due to this, it is perfectly natural for them to wonder whether POP Yachts is a scam or not.

Is POP Yachts a Scammer?

Unfortunately, there is no simple and straightforward method for telling when a business has crossed the line from being a poor provider of products and services to being a straight-up scam. There are plenty of places where people have posted complaints about POP Yachts. For proof, look no further than the Better Business Bureau , which has provided it with a B- rating based on a total of 11 complaints. Furthermore, it is important to note that the Better Business Bureau has listed a 3-star review based on an aggregate of the customer reviews that have been submitted to it. Curiously, these reviews are either very good or very bad with few reviews that are in-between, which could be interpreted to mean that POP Yachts customers either have very good or very bad experiences. This is further supported by what people have said on various boat forums, which show a fair amount of negativity mixed in with some pretty positive comments.

As for the exact nature of the complaints, they are wide-ranging in nature rather than focused on one or even a small number of issues. In some cases, people complained about POP Yachts representatives misrepresenting the truth, which is a serious warning sign for obvious reasons. In other cases, complaints ranged from the poor attitude of POP Yachts representatives to a lack of response on the part of the boat broker and over-aggressiveness in their attempts to convince boat owners to sell through them. Based on this, it seems reasonable to say that POP Yachts has some serious issues, particularly since the range of reviews posted on a number of websites make it clear that this isn’t just one or two customers who are dissatisfied by their interactions with the boat broker.

Moving on, it is curious to note that POP Yachts claims to be one of the best businesses of its kind when measured using the reviews posted on Trustpilot.com . For those who are unfamiliar with that particular name, Trustpilot.com is a review website where customers can post reviews about the businesses that they have interacted with. Perhaps unsurprisingly, online review sites are filled with dishonest reviews, which are the inevitable outcome when there are such strong incentives at work without the corresponding barriers set up to prevent people from acting upon them. However, Trustpilot.com is particularly concerning because KwikChex has turned up actual examples of fake reviews on its website, which isn’t helped by the fact that the website lets its premium users filter the reviews that interested individuals see without any indication that said reviews have been filtered. Combined, these facts don’t exactly inspire a great deal of confidence in what Trustpilot.com has to say on the matter, particularly when there are so many other complaints on other websites that contradict the substance of this particular claim.

Summed up, there is no simple and straightforward method for determining whether POP Yachts is a scam or not. When one considers the fact that it has been in business for years and years, it seems probable that it isn’t a scam so much as a business that hasn’t been very good at satisfying a substantial number of the customers that it has interacted with. However, whether POP Yachts is a scam or not probably isn’t actually that interesting for most consumers out there. Instead, what most of them are really interested in is whether POP Yachts can be trusted to provide them with their desired service or not, in which case, the answer is at best a “maybe, maybe not.” Suffice to say that this isn’t what anyone would consider to be a stirring endorsement, meaning that interested individuals might want to look elsewhere. Something that is particularly true because there isn’t exactly a shortage of other service providers that can help them with whatever it is that they are looking for in this regard.

How Can You Tell that Something Is a Scam Anyways?

In any case, interested individuals might want to look into the various ways that they can pick up on something being a scam, which should help them avoid a wide range of potential pitfalls. Generally speaking, interested individuals should be suspicious of anything that sounds too good to be true. In fact, they should be suspicious of anything that is making them rush into a decision because that reduces the chances of them making a cool, reasoned-out choice that is in their genuine best interests. Under this light, something that sounds too good to be true is suspicious because it seems designed to encourage them to rush into a decision instead of thinking about it. Similarly, if someone is getting a lot of pressure from the representatives of a business into making a decision, that tends to be rather suspicious as well, though to be perfectly fair, it is possible that they are just pushy salespeople rather than scammers seeking to pressure consumers into making a bad decision.

Besides this, there are various other things to watch out for. For instance, a business that hasn’t existed for very long time is very suspicious because they are a complete and utter unknown, meaning that it is best to look elsewhere. Likewise, if a business has no physical presence at the place that they are claiming, that is even more suspicious. Fortunately, the Internet makes it easier for people to communicate than ever before, meaning that if people are interested, they should have no problems finding more information on how to pick up on potential problems.

Boat: Islander 36
off of Craiglist or similar. I have heard that Pop Yachts cruises those type of websites, and hits up owners to list with them with the propisiton that Pop Yachts will charge a commission if they find the buyer, but no commission if the seller finds the buyer themselves. I have also heard that there are a lot disputes between sellers and Pop Yachts about who found the buyer.

Does anyone have experience with Pop Yachts or know how they ? It seems like the seller would be more likely to accept a lower offer if they don't have to pay a commission to Pop Yachts, so one should try to track down the webiste where the was originally listed, deal with the owner directly, and avoid Pop Yacht entaglement.

to Pop and I would imagine it would be difficult for the seller to prove the buyer did not see a Pop ad. Seller beware.

Boat: 2010 Jeanneau SO 44i
a boat that was listed solo by me and with pop yachts, I sold my boat to a buyer that I found and showed the vessel too. I do not think it was a good situation, I would not use pop yachts to sell again. I gave the pop yacht 1/2 of the suggested minimum at the time as he did show the vessel about 5 times. I have had great success with sailboatlistings.com but sometimes it’s a that lists and sometimes they leave sold vessels posted. The later of which is a negligent sell problem.

Cory was very attentive to my needs and sent me quite number of boats to consider buying. Although I ended up purchasing a boat on my own, not affiliated with Pops Boats, I would not hesitate to use them the next time I'm in the market to purchase a boat. Thank you Cory! Ron C. Raleigh, NC

Thanks for the great review, Ron! We are glad that Cory sent you a lot of boat options for sale through Pop. We wish you many great days out on the water in your new boat and hope that we have the pleasure of working with you again in the future.

This is the first time I have purchased using POP

This is the first time I have purchased through POP Yachts. I would use them again. The whole process seemed to flow pretty good. Seemed like the best way to communicate with the closing staff is E mail. Mabie I didn't research thoroughly enough but I was surprised when the buyer also was charged $495 closing cost. Now that I know what the cost are up front, I will know to take that into consideration on my offer. All the paper work I received to take to DMV was in excellent order and very professional.

Excellent! It was our pleasure assisting with the beautiful Harris tritoon, and we appreciate your review of our team and processes. All the best in your new adventures!

Purchase of boat in Tennessee

Boat is located at marina in Tennessee. The marina required 2 month's notice in giving up the slip. Pop paid for two month's rent to satisfy them. Thanks. The buyer's agent was in Florida. We had difficulty obtaining information about the current status of the boat as no Pop rep. was at the marina. The seller's agent contact was given to me to ask about the boat's current status. The sale was completed and sales tax was paid in Florida. The Tennessee registration requires a form to be completed that was supposed to come from the broker. None was provided. TN also requires that TN taxes were paid. Not done.

Date of experience : 26 February 2024

Thank you for your detailed review, Kevin. We are glad that we were able to help you with the marina rent. It was our understanding during closing that the boat was going back to Florida, and your Florida address was used for the documents. Therefore, sales tax was collected for Florida, and a De aler tax Statement was provided. We are required to collect sales tax for anything coming back or staying in Florida. If you've decided to keep the boat in Tennessee and need any further documentation, please contact [email protected] and we will be happy to provide whatever we can to satisfy your requirements to keep the boat in Tennessee. We hope that you enjoy your new boat!

POP Yachts, A Professional Team of Brokers

After 35 years of sailing our 1987 Catalina 25 (Backdraft) my wife and I arrived a difficult decision the sale our sailing craft. POP Yachts Brokers assisted us with advertising, finding a perspective buyer, and closing the sale. We were assisted by a team of true professionals that made what may have been a stressful experience, one of joy. The POP Yachts Team kept us informed revert step of the way exhibiting a personal touch. On two occasions our sales broker visited our boat to create a catalog of photos to promote the sale and a second visit to ensure a smooth transfer to the new owner. The POP Yachts Team member handling the closing of the sale led us through the process step by step, that made it seamless. I recommend anyone selling a boat of any type reach out POP Yachts and engage tire team of professionals.

Fantastic! It was our pleasure to introduce your Catalina to that just-right buyer. Your kind words about our professional team and processes capture exactly what we strive to do every single day. Thanks, and all the best in your next adventures.

After trying several times to sell our RV

After trying several times to sell our motor home on RV Trader, we were contacted by POP, and they took on the sell. Great people to work with, and all details taken care of. I am recommending them to anyone that is selling their RV. Thank you POP

Date of experience : 27 February 2024

Thanks for the outstanding 5-star review, Mark! We are so glad that we were able to find a buyer for your beautiful motorhome. We love hearing praises about the team and how we take care of all of the details for you - that is what we strive for every day. You were a pleasure to work with and we hope that we have the opportunity to work together again one day. Thank you for your recommendations, we very much appreciate it!

Unprofessional Sales and Finance Reps

The individuals at Pop Rv are totally unprofessional. I'm specifically calling out Andy Baker and Caleb Grassi. Andy prompted me to apply for a loan through Rock Solid Funding (their partner) without ever calling or speaking with me personally. I received a computer rejection in less than 5 minutes after submitting the application. No human being ever looked at my application. When I questioned the process, Caleb Grassi gave me a "sorry we can't help you" reply. I make over $100k/year, have $0 debts, and have stellar ratings on my credit report from Chrysler, Ally Bank, Verizon, Capitol One, and more. My prediction: Pop RV will be out of business in a year or two max. My Recommendation: Shop Elsewhere.

This is a 5 star company. Soup to nuts they handled everything regarding the solicitation’s to the paperwork all the way around. I’ve utilized the services of Pops Yachts for a purchase and finally to sell. They can handle both the purchase and the sales very professionally and proficiently. DBB

Great Company to serve as an advisor between a buyer and a seller

We knew we wanted to purchase a specific higher-end Class A motorcoach and being a CPA, we didn't want to pay the upcharge that you pay when purchasing through a RV dealership. Given the cost of this RV, we were not comfortable trying to navigate a purchase directly with a seller. Luckily, we found the (almost) exact RV we wanted and it was listed by Popsells. The entire process was seamless from the negotiations to the RV titling/tag receipt. The communication was better than expected as I was consistently informed. Given the industry in which I work (Audit Director of the largest title company in the US), I was amazed by the escrow process, including the security around the wire process (which can be very risky in today's world and the use of email). There is not one thing I can point out in Popsells' process that needs enhancement from a buyer's point of view (and that says a lot coming from someone in the audit field). I highly recommend having this company by your side when making a purchase of this size.

Pop Yachts Great Experience

We delt with Richard Salinas and he was great! He stayed in contact, worked with us all hours of the day and night, and shared listings that fit what we were really looking for. He was committed to finding us the boat we wanted and kept us updated all the time. We also delt with Hannah Deichler when it came time to close the sale. She also stayed in contact with us through the entire process. She also said if there are any issues with licensing, since we are in a different state, that we can contact her anytime and she would help. We got a great boat and had a great experience! We would recommend Pop Yachts to anyone!

Date of experience : 03 April 2023

Thank you for sharing your positive experience with Pop Yachts! We are glad to hear that Richard and Hannah provided great service and made the boat-buying process smooth and easy for you. It's wonderful to know that you are happy with your purchase and we appreciate your recommendation. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need any further assistance in the future. Happy Boating!!

Working with Pop RVs was a great…

Working with Pop RVs was a great experience, and our second time! From the listing process through the sales closure, Robert, our sales representative, was professional and attentive to our needs. Their reach into the listings market is the largest I have encountered. One of the main reasons for using Pop RVs the second time was due to the level of professionalism and trust in the closing process. No concerns about the payments and the last mile of the transaction with the buyer as I know that PoP RVs has this all covered. In an industry that is wrought with less than dependable or unethical companies/individuals, knowing that you have someone you can trust is worth a lot. I would highly recommend PoP RVs to anyone selling their RV.

Date of experience : 20 June 2022

Fantastic! It's been our pleasure to handle both sales for you. We appreciate the kudos for our team, our marketing program, our sales process, and our secure payments. Thanks for your recommendations, and all the best in your next adventures!

We purchased a 1999 Chris Craft boat…

We purchased a 1999 Chris Craft boat July 2022. We reached out 7/3/22 & picked up boat 7/30/22. It was extremely painful process dealing with popyachts office & closing department. Steve Friedrich was our saving grace, as he helped balance out all the issues we were having with Christine Harrower, our closing person. We also reached out to Rusty Kline her manager without a response till after we were actually closing. The actual close day went mostly without a hitch, but I would never recommend the company, which actually charged me the buyer $495.00 to do the closing documents- which was required if we wanted to buy boat. The papers were sent & accurate & came pretty quickly, but everything else I had to essentially set up ( inspection, sea trial) myself.

FIVE BIG stars for the team I dealt…

FIVE BIG stars for the team I dealt with. Starting with Jon Novak, who was our sales rep. Cannot say enough good things about him. Always friendly and professional, always answered questions and concerns promptly. Even after the sale, showed interest in our trips and how everything went. Then Christine Harrower, our closing agent. Another shining five star agent. Got it done for us sooner than expected. A pleasure to work with her. She responded to concerns and questions, even late into the evening hours. Robert was our contact when seeing the motor home. On time, and very helpful with his suggestions. Just a super nice guy. Another 5 star performer. The closing manager also checked twice with us to make sure everything had gone well. Can’t commend these folks enough to really convey just how good things went and how smoothly our purchase went. I highly recommend Pop RV!

Date of experience : 26 April 2023

WOW, thank you so much for the incredible review, Donnie! We agree, John, Christine and Robert are amazing. They consistently go above and beyond to create experiences just as you describe. We are genuinely grateful to have them on our team! We love hearing stories like this from our customers, and are so glad that you took the time to share this online. Wishing you many great adventures in your new RV. Please reach out if we can help you again in the future.

Good Overall Experience

Good overall experience working with Pops RV. Only thing I would recommend is have the area representative be available at inspection or delivery of the RV to assist with any issues that might arise. Other than that they worked to keep me informed on the sale transaction Rusty from Pops stepped in to help with getting me the paperwork from the finance company as it was running late. He also ensured I was reimbursed late fees I was assessed for the paperwork not getting to me on time. Would recommend Pop RVs if you’re in the market for an RV.

Date of experience : 31 October 2023

Thank you for the review and recommendation, Steven. We are always looking to expand our Pop Consultants across the country, but in some cases there is not a local representative (yet). If you happen to know anyone interested in being a local rep, please ask them to visit popsellscareers.com. We are glad that Rusty was able to get your paperwork delivered and took care of your late fees due to the delay in delivery. We appreciate your recommendation and wish you many great adventures in your new RV!

A Wonderful and Trust worthy Experience...

Everyone I came in contact with were truly PROFESSIONAL. When they requested info from me, I created and they responded receipt. When I had questions about the unit or process one or two responded back to me. When I was required to put down the deposited from bank to bank and also FINAL payment, copies were emailed back to me that the task(s) were completed. Neil was GREAT for my Inspection of said unit and when my son and two grown grand sons did the FINAL Inspection, Neil was a BIG help to them. I would rate Rome, Neil, Harley and others on a scale of 1 to 10 a 13 (thirteen). If I ever needed to sell the unit (I am 81), I will ask Pops RV to assist. It was a GREAT & WONDERFUL Experience and I am a HAPPY RV'er! Ivan Price, a transfer from California to Florida

Thanks, Ivan! It's been our pleasure to assist with the single-owner Cougar, an!d we appreciate your recommendations for our processes and team. All the best in your new adventures!

Pops RV have great people to work with…

Pops RV have great people to work with throughout the purchasing of an RV. People like Laura, Trish and Ken were knowledgeable, conscientious, accessible and great to work with. From the time we first looked at the travel trailer till we finally made a decision these folks were there. They walked us through the process and as first time buyers, they took all our concerns away and answered all our questions. The process is smooth, safe for the buyer and was easy to buy a travel trailer 1,700 miles away from where we live. I recommend Pop’s RV very highly.

Pop RVs and Roger:AWESOME!!

Pop RVs and Roger, who we worked with, made this one of the smoothest processes ever! It was so much easier to go through them than trying to sell our RV ourselves. It was an east process with lots of upfront details about what we should expect. It happened exactly as they said. We were consistently kept up to date with where things stood. Everyone was friendly, efficient and reachable at all times. I highly recommend if you want to buy or sell an RV!

Date of experience : 27 April 2023

Thank you so much, Amy, for taking the time to share your experience with Pop RVs and Roger. We are thrilled to hear that the selling process was smooth and easy for you, and that our team provided you with excellent customer service. We understand that selling an RV can be a daunting task, which is why we strive to provide upfront details about what our customers should expect, and to keep them consistently updated on where things stand throughout the process. We are glad to hear that our team was able to provide you with friendly, efficient, and reachable support throughout the process. Thank you for your recommendation, and we hope you continue to consider Pop RVs for your RV needs in the future.

Very professional

Very professional. Made the purchase an easy transaction. Lisa, my buyer’s rep., was a pleasure to work with. Always friendly and was quick to get me answers to my questions. Paul, the seller’s rep., went out of his way to help when I went to pick up the boat. Lauren, the closing coordinator, stayed on top of the transaction even though the lien holder was out of state. Overall, a very easy purchase. I would use POP yachts again and would recommend POP to anyone wanting to buy or sell. Herb Kranz

I was very nervous trusting somebody else to do all the paperwork. After I found the boat i wanted on their site, they communicated between myself and the owner to answer all my questions. It was a seamless operation, I was very impressed, Mel and Ray answered all the questions I had to my satisfaction. Drove to Pennsylvania and the boat was the boat I seen on line, not like those dating sites 😊 it was a done deal, thanks to everybody involved, especially Mel and Ray.

Pop Yacht delivers

We sold our boat through Pop Yachts. The boat sold in about the time we expected but at a slightly lower price. The broker, Andy, took hundreds of photos and a video. The boat was easy to find on the internet, it showed up on a number of sites. Pop sends a weekly report that details the views on their website (but not the other sites). For better or worse there were no “tire kickers”. With this method I didn’t expect to have a lot of people looking at the boat; they looked at the photos. If they come look at it, there is a good chance they will buy it. The closing was fast and easy. Great job Andy and crew!

Ripoff Company won't stop sending emails. Stay away from this site. Scam, scam, scam.

Wow. What kind of scam place is this? I was looking at West Wight Potter 15's trying to find one between $1,500 and $2,500. I just perused the site. I get an email from them trying to sell me a 2014 West Wight Potter 19 for $25,990. I ask them to stop sending emails, but they won't. I was looking at Yamaha Jet Boats and thy send me an email for boats going for $30-40,000 more than I was looking for. I politely respond that I'm looking in a certain range and that no thank you. So they send me an email of boats $20,000+ outside the range I was looking for. Now, I didn't sign up for anything. I didn't ask for help. I just looked at boats on their site. I told him I wasn't in the market for quite awhile and to please stop sending me emails. Did they stop? Heck no. Of course not. Scam company. (And to verify myself, I went through Facebook and these 'gentlemen'wanted to get my friends list for posting that they're a scam. *Another* rip-off. It never stops with these guys.

Reply from popsells.com

Mr. Swanner, I am sorry to hear you received a couple of emails that you consider unwarranted. You logged onto popyachts.com and added your contact information to our datatbase. Between September 5th and September 12th, you viewed listings on our site a total of 14 times. You viewed approximately 10 different vessels, ranging from a 2009 Yamaha AR210 priced at $21,000 to a 2015 Yamaha AR210 priced at $41,000. You also viewed two WW Potter sailboats priced between $15,000 and $26,000. During that same time frame, you had multiple email conversations with a POP Yachts broker. You were clearly actively engaged with our broker and were actively looking at vessels listed by our company. Whether or not you were ready to purchase, you were not simply a casual online peruser. Apparently, you received two emails after you had asked to cease receiving emails. (One of the messages was sent by our automated system within a few minutes of receiving your request, and before our systems synced and processed the removal of your email address.). After spending considerable time on POP Yachts website and with POP personnel, this certainly would not constitute any type of scam or questionable business tactic. Please be assured that your account has been flagged and you will never be contacted again. Your comment about Facebook asking for your list of friends also does not sound plausible. This is absolutely not a practice POP Yachts uses. We are a professional and ethical organization. We respect our customers and take their private information seriously. We never trade or sell any personal information provided by potential and actual buyers and sellers. POP Yachts is an industry leader in the yacht brokerage industry. We just celebrated our 9th year and the closing of our 10,000th deal. We are highly rated on Trust Pilot (currently over a 9.2 rating) as well as on Google Reviews. Thanks for the opportunity to set the record straight.

These guys are just out for a quick…

These guys are just out for a quick buck! They don't have any idea how to properly list a boat! They love to say there professionally maintained but never even looked at the boat! Get your sellers to get there boats surveyed guys! Then you can properly list a boat! I wouldn't buy a jon boat from this crowd!

John, I am sorry that you perceive POP Yachts to be “out for a quick buck” and unable to “properly list a boat.” I can absolutely assure you that nothing could be further from the truth. POP Yachts offers some of the most comprehensive listings in the marine industry. The vast majority of the vessels we offer for sale have been personally visited by trained POP Yachts brokers, who incorporate detailed specs and numerous high-quality pictures into each listing. Our trained Quality Assurance specialists verify the completeness and accuracy of the information prior to publication. Our Data Feed Managers also ensure that each listing is accurately posted on over 200 marine websites worldwide. After this background work is complete, prospective buyers are able to use the extensive search features of our proprietary online database to filter listings and find just the right boat to fit their needs. All this infrastructure comes at a substantial investment of time, effort, and financial outlay. POP Yachts collects a commission (paid by the seller) only if we 1) procure a buyer and 2) close the deal. Did you realize that this policy is actually part of our name? The “POP” in POP Yachts refers to paid on performance. As anyone can plainly see, POP Yachts is not out for the quick buck! Your comment about surveys is equally ill-advised. As an industry standard, no one requires (or would even suggest) a seller to procure an inspection/marine survey prior to having a signed offer with a deposit in place. Why? Surveys are costly, and marine surveyors will only guarantee the survey for a very limited time period. As POP Yachts’ sellers are uniquely able to enjoy complete use of their vessel throughout the sales process, there would be no way to ensure that even a recently completed inspection or survey would still be valid at the time of closing. And the most compelling reason for not having a seller complete an inspection? Potential buyers want (and pay for!) an independent survey to confirm the condition of the vessel before they proceed with their investment. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to clarify some misperceptions for our future buyers and sellers.

Purchasing a boat for our organization…

Purchasing a boat for our organization StreetWaves.org was a pleasure. The team at POP Yachts were very professional and accommodating at every stage of the process. They have a very efficient system in place to deliver a great service. We are now able to begin our boating education platform for underserved youth thanks to our purchase through POP Yachts. I would highly recommend POP Yachts.

Thank you for sharing your positive POP Yachts experience! It is good to hear how we expertly navigated you through the successful purchase of your 1991 Dusky Marine Center Console. Along with our proprietary technology and values, POP Yachts operates using a solid code of values. Code #10 focuses on operating as a team of professionals rather than as a single broker, so that we EXCEED our customers’ expectations. This dedicated team allows us to cover all the bases and achieve the perfect customer experience. Your broker, Debbie, commended the team effort and communication of Ray, the listing agent, and Lauren, the Closing Coordinator. It started with finding a boat that would serve children well. The center console provided enough room for them to move freely, as well as a portapotty and higher sides with combing pads to keep everyone on board comfortable while learning about boating. Lauren was the star of the effort with coordinating the survey, confirming missing engine serial numbers, and very professionally handling the paperwork for a nonprofit organization. Lauren maintained her detailed and precision handling of documents right to the end. Debbie noted that yours was a deal that everyone had to stay on top of, and that was the beauty of the POP processes and teamwork. We are so happy to have earned your trust and certainly appreciate the future recommendations. Give us a call when we can assist you again. In the meantime, fair winds and smooth seas to all who enjoy this very special vessel.

Amazing Experience

I was a little skeptical at first never using a brokerage service to make a purchase. However, as the process matured I quickly became overwhelmingly satisfied. I worked with Tricia at POP Yachts to complete the transaction. She was incredible! The communication was excellent, always patient in answering my questions, and was truly loyal to my interests. The boat I purchased had a lien and she arranged the release process flawlessly. I would never consider doing business any other way in the future. The fees are reasonable and well worth their efforts.

Buyer and Seller BEWARE

By far the worst experience I have had in purchasing a boat. I would strongly encourage buyers and sellers to stay away from popyachts. Their listing was inaccurate regarding the hours, condition of the vessel, and included equipment. Was told the listing broker would be on site for my personal inspection, but he never showed up. They tell you they go out and view the boat prior to listing, this is not true. Service after the sale is poor at best, I had to threaten litigation before I finally received an answer to some of my questions, and still have outstanding issues. Robert Crockett, Customer Service Manager should be fired, he doesn't even answer his phone, or return calls.

POP Yachts takes great pride in providing an excellent experience to both buyer and seller throughout each transaction, including addressing any post-sale concerns which arise. You purchased a 2008 Chaparral in May 2018. Closing occurred approximately two months after your offer was accepted by the seller. During your escrow/inspection period, you personally inspected the boat and the trailer (in April) and also had a professional marine mechanic conduct a full inspection (in May). Based on that professional inspection, your purchase price was reduced to allow for minor repairs to the trailer. It seems reasonable to believe that any additional issues would have been discovered and resolved at that point as well, but no such concerns were communicated. Several weeks after closing, you contacted POP Yachts regarding missing boat manuals. You indicated you would download these manuals from the internet and move forward. You also inquired about how the engine hours could have increased from 85 as shown in the marketing materials to approximately 110 at closing. The simple explanation was that sellers who choose to list with POP Yachts retain physical possession of their vessels and are free to enjoy their vessels at any time during the listing period. Both you and the professional marine inspector would have been aware of the actual engine hours based upon your inspections, but again, no concerns were communicated prior to closing. Approximately two months after closing, you questioned the absence of several items. We responded regarding each item, noting which were present when you purchased the boat. We also clarified that a couple of items (recreational tubes) which you felt were missing were not actually listed in your sales contract. We directed you to contact the seller regarding a mooring cover which you said did not convey. We are not aware of any further concerns or outstanding issues concerning the 2008 Chaparral. POP Yachts makes every effort to ensure listings contain current and accurate data. We document and photograph each vessel as it is listed, relying upon the owner for material statements regarding boat condition, use, engine hours, storage and maintenance. Owners also provide details on any additional equipment and accessories which are included in the sale. Owners are asked to provide updated information if any change occurs, but occasionally our available description may not reflect the most recent condition of the boat and its inventory. To eliminate any variances prior to purchase, POP Yachts strongly encourages every prospective buyer to independently hire an accredited marine surveyor to thoroughly inspect any boat, as well as verify the presence of any additional equipment and accessories. Both buyer and seller execute agreements, first when an offer is accepted and again at closing, which confirm the components included in a sale. Recourse for any items which do not convey as anticipated must ultimately be directed to the seller for resolution. POP Yachts has earned high customer satisfaction ratings in our industry. Our team has worked diligently with you on the 2008 Chaparral since March, and we are sincerely sorry that you remain unhappy with our services. Thank you for the feedback.

Escrow 10percent towards a boat I am not allowed to see? No way.

Please accept our apologies that you were given incorrect information. We would never require a deposit or contract before seeing a boat in person. Such a move would be completely against our documented policies. I can only imagine that someone accidentally miscommunicated this to you. We do actually encourage buyers who are travelling from farther distances to agree on a price with the seller and execute an agreement before travelling to see a boat in person as, without the protection of a contract that includes a period of diligence for you to review the boat in person, hire a surveyor, conduct a trail run, etc., the seller could simply sell the boat out from under you 5 minutes after your showing (which indeed has happened). Perhaps your sales rep was simply trying to encourage you to sign an offer sheet for your protection, but they certainly shouldn't have made you think this was any type of requirement. Again, we do encourage this but it's for your protection only - no one else benefits from this since the buyer is permitted to walk away from the standard contract for any reason (or no reason). Again, please accept our sincerest apologies that this was miscommunicated to you. If you'd like to see a boat, we'd appreciate the opportunity to show one to you.

Not nerve-wracking

As is sometimes the case, I bought a boat before I sold the one I had. Having two boats can be nerve-wracking. The boat I purchased was handled by POP Yachts - the experience was so possitive that I listed my boat for them to sell. The nerve-wracking aspect went away! The main contact people - in my experience with both buying and selling - were fantastic, right on top of things and always available, but I also knew they were part of much larger team all working together to make thing work...and it did.

Sabrina Carpenter Seals Her Arrival As a Pop Superstar With ‘Short n’ Sweet’

By Rob Sheffield

Rob Sheffield

There’s never been a pop-girl summer anything like 2024 — ever — and Sabrina Carpenter is one of the crucial reasons why. With “Espresso” and “Please Please Please,” she can claim two prime Song of the Summer contenders. But she caps off her amazing ascendance with Short n’ Swee t, her full-on coronation album, flaunting her knack for turning romantic roadkill into flippantly brilliant pop. Sabrina’s give-a-fucks aren’t just on vacation — they’re in a coma. These songs are usually filthy, always funny, often mean, yet she roasts herself along with everyone else. As she admits, “I can make a shitshow look a whole lot like forever.”

“Espresso” and “Please Please Please” are two of the highlights, but they’re not even the best tunes here. That honor goes to the future karaoke classic “Lie to Girls,” with Carpenter lamenting over acoustic guitar, “You don’t have to lie to girls/If they like you, they’ll just lie to themselves.” She mourns the romantic self-delusions of her mother, her friends, even “the girl outside the strip club getting her tarot cards read.” (The funniest tarot burn since Joni Mitchell went to Bleecker Street on Hejira to watch eighteen bucks go up in smoke.) But as she sings, “We love to read the cold hard facts and swear they’re incorrect/We love to mistake butterflies for cardiac arrest.”

Short n’ Sweet is impressively focused — 12 songs in 36 minutes, no features, no guests, no missteps. She co-wrote each with Amy Allen, who had her own summer hit in “Girl with a Problem.” Her producers include John Ryan, Ian Kirkpatrick, and Justin Bunetta. Jack Antonoff did four of the highlights, including “Please Please Please” and “Lie to Girls.”

Sabrina Carpenter, Poet Laureate of Sex

On short n’ sweet , our newest major pop star shows she’s fully in command..

There are three certified plateaus of Sabrina Carpenter consciousness, according to most gurus of pop-girl-ology.

The level of Sabrina sentience held by most adults perceives this blond ball of radiance to have materialized out of the air this April with the instant song-of-the-summer contender “ Espresso .” That’s the tune with the irresistible post-disco, 1980s roller-rink groove (though, as Dan Charnas explained in Slate,  it’s a lot more complicated than that ) and the sublimely  syntax-scrambled  lyrics like “That’s that me espresso” and “I Mountain Dew it for ya” (which are not any more complicated than that). A portion of this crowd will also be aware of Carpenter’s lilting cosmic-cowgirl follow-up “ Please Please Please ,” which,  as my colleague Chris Molanphy explained in June , actually charted higher than “Espresso”—and which I personally prefer a bit, mainly for one of the all-time-great deployments of the word motherfucker —but now, in the last stretch of summer, stands a couple of notches lower than its caffeinated cousin in  Billboard’s seasonal rankings , which seems celestially just.

If anyone in this cohort happened to hear that Carpenter’s album  Short n’ Sweet  was being released Friday, they would probably muse, “Hmm, wonder if the full-length debut will live up to those two singles?”

A subset of us, however, had already achieved degree two of Sabrinawareness: We heard about her in 2021 when Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” blew up,  followed by the album  Sour ,   and Carpenter was reputed to be the other woman in a tug-of-war over some hunk of boy whose betrayal fueled all of Rodrigo’s songs. All concerned were somehow linked by the Disney Channel. We were probably also dimly cognizant that Carpenter put out an answer song called “Skin” and a subsequent 2022 album,  Emails I Can’t Send ,   which also addressed the matter in songs like “ Because I Liked a Boy ,” with a video depicting a literal circus to show what the Rodrigo donnybrook had done to Carpenter’s life. That album also featured the thankfully unrelated breakout hit “ Nonsense ,” followed by “ Feather ,” with a video that got Carpenter in  hot holy water with the Catholic Church . Then Carpenter was invited to open for Taylor Swift on a couple of legs of the  “Eras” tour  this year, partly owing to Swift’s own  tedious rumored spat with Rodrigo over something or other, which was how Carpenter had ascended to a place where the “Espresso” phenomenon could happen.

This subgroup would have anticipated  Short n’ Sweet  thinking, “So, will this second album break away from the heavy Swift mimicry on  Emails  and realize the cheeky potential of those few hits?”

But this cohort, too, lived in darkness. I knew vaguely that Carpenter had put out some songs in her years laboring in the mines of Disney TV, which I assumed were disposable fluff. But the true adepts who inhabit the third and highest circle of Carpenter consciousness have known all along that, actually,  Short n’ Sweet  is only Carpenter’s second  major-label  album. In fact, after the age of 14, the Pennsylvania-born teen singer and actress had a whole recording career on Disney-affiliated Hollywood Records, which began with fittingly  childish, gentle self-affirmation tunes  but quickly  grew more sophisticated  and by 2019 was  pointing clearly  toward her adult style.

Short n’ Sweet  is thus the 25-year-old Carpenter’s  sixth  studio album. Rather like one of 2024’s other breakthrough artists,  Chappell Roan , Carpenter is an “overnight success” only if you posit an alternate Earth where the nocturnal rotations last eight or nine years. And this album feels exactly like one made by a former apprentice who’s now in command. It sparkles with confidence, streaked through with the jadedness of one who’s seen a few trials. It’s teen pop all grown up and in fact sometimes deliberately evokes the sound of Carpenter’s turn-of-the-century Disney-kid predecessors Britney, Christina, and Justin, while steering pointedly wide of the traps and treasons that befell them. But its musical and lyrical vocabulary is also more varied than that. And a lot dirtier.

It’s as a poet laureate of sex that Carpenter’s strengths shine brightest on this album. She’s been campaigning for the designation for a year or two with her improvised (or at least hastily planned)  codas to her live performances of “Nonsense.”  They usually include a shoutout to the city or nation she’s touring, rhymed with a tribute to the carnal arts: “How to ride it, I can think of five ways/ My head goes so hard I’m giving migraines/ How loud do you get in Buenos Aires!” or “Boy, come over, this is not a drill/ He said, ‘Get on top,’ I said, ‘I will’/ Then he made me come—to Brazil!” But maybe the best, or at least most insolent, was the one she did for BBC Radio 1 that was quickly taken off official channels, which referred to, let’s say, the slang meaning of the British broadcaster’s initials, along with  the fact that they had expressly asked her not to .

That track record ought to relieve any doubt that Carpenter’s the one writing most of the sex jokes on  Short n’ Sweet , like threatening on “Good Graces” that if a boyfriend doesn’t treat her well, “I’ll tell the world you finish your chores prematurely,” or pretty much every word of “Juno,” which, by way of  the 2007 indie film  about a knocked-up teen, uses its title as a synonym for pregnancy: “If you love me right, then who knows? I might let you make me Juno,” since after all, “One of me is cute, but two, though?” That song and “Bed Chem”—an abbreviation for “bed chemistry” that will be common online parlance before you finish reading this sentence—are vying for the title of horniest track, and “Bed Chem” definitely has the most penis-size euphemisms. But I think “Juno” wins, not only because its music is more racingly buoyant, but because it just goes ahead and says, “Hold me and explore me/ I’m so fuckin’ horny.”

This is one of the ways that Carpenter surpasses and sheds her Swift influence. While Swift is often sensual in her songs, she can rarely be direct about sex without sounding very self-conscious about being so adult and naughty. And while she can be wickedly sharp when skewering herself and others, she’s seldom just casually funny. Carpenter sounds totally at ease with both sex and jokes, and especially with how often the two go together. You certainly see that in the new-this-morning, mock-horror video for the opening track, “ Taste ,” featuring Gen Z’s own scream queen Jenna Ortega.

The raunch and sarcasm aren’t just for their own sake, though it would be enough if they were. It’s all in service to the album’s overall intent, which, as she put it  to Paper magazine , is to chronicle the most recent “series of unfortunate events I’ve encountered in relationships” (making  a perfect Gen Z kid-culture reference )—and, by extension, to provide a grim survey of the contemporary dating scene. Listening to  Short n’ Sweet ,   I often feel like I’m reading a good feminist website’s gossip and advice columnist, a report from an unusually salty-mouthed sociologist, or some blend of Shere Hite and  Dorothy Parker .

The subtext of a lot of the songs is much sadder than their surfaces, but because of the energy she brings to them, I seldom really feel sad for   Carpenter here. She sounds pretty sure that in the long run she’ll be fine. I’m just waiting for the next zinger to strike down whoever’s making her sad, usually some disappointing dude, occasionally herself. She’s become ever more adept at eviscerating fuckbois—witness the bloody cadaver–strewn floor in the “ Feather ” video—like the one here who’s not the “Sharpest Tool” in the shed: “We had sex, I met your best friends/ Then a bird flies by and you forget.” (Though the rest of the song never quite equals that opening.) Or the sensitive-posturing guy in the folkie-strummed “Dumb & Poetic”: “Try to come off like you’re soft and well-spoken/ Jack off to lyrics by Leonard Cohen.” (Who expected Boygenius’  song from last year  to be one-upped so quickly in the skeptical Leonard Cohen–reference sweepstakes?) I’m not sure which is more devastating, that or “I promise the mushrooms aren’t changing your life.”

Aside from the occasional good lay, Carpenter really makes it sound like an ordeal to be a young straight woman in 2024, “Since the good ones call their exes wasted/ And since the Lord forgot my gay awakenin’,” as she sings on the next track, “Slim Pickins.” The title there is also a nod to the prominent banjo line; it’s one of several songs here that lean a little country and would have fit in well on Kacey Musgraves’ 2018  Golden Hour , an album  praised everywhere  at the time that sometimes seems forgotten now. Not by Carpenter, who  brought Musgraves up onstage  in San Francisco this month to duet on “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’,” calling her “an artist that I’ve just loved for my entire life.” (Which must have made Musgraves feel old at 36.)

There’s also an acoustic cast to the penultimate track, “Lie to Girls”—which really should be the closer rather than the comparatively weak and sleepy “Don’t Smile.” It’s here that Carpenter really confronts her portion of the problem with the dud dudes, assuring one, in the midst of reaming him out for misbehavior, “You don’t have to lie to girls/ If they like you, they’ll just lie to themselves” and then cleverly looping it back: “Like you, they’ll just lie to themselves.” And, debate her as you will, she universalizes the issue to her whole gender: “It’s lucky for you I’m just like/ My mother (and my sisters) (all my friends)/ The girl outside the strip club, getting her tarot cards read.”

Carpenter might be said to circle these subjects obsessively here, but, as in those examples, it’s always from fresh angles, and usually quite concisely. She’s down with the aphorism that brevity is the soul of wit:  Short n’ Sweet  isn’t just a joke about her own under-5-foot stature and the quick expiration dates on many of these liaisons, but truth-in-advertising about the album. It comes in at 12 songs lasting just over 36 minutes in total. Which is a great relief in a year when so many major pop albums, from  Swift’s to  Beyoncé’s  to  Post Malone’s , have been clocking in at double-album lengths, justified in substance or not.

If there’s a disappointment here, it might be that “Espresso” stands alone in its giddy word salad–tossing; none of the other songs match its benign contempt for comprehensibility. Likewise, most of the music is either moody or more anthemic, not with the breezy-dancey vibe of the lead single. It’s partly produced by and written with various L.A. music-biz stalwarts—many former associates of One Direction, make what you will of that—and partly with the celebrated/notorious Jack Antonoff.  If you require further evidence  that it’s not truly  his  fault that Swift’s past couple of albums have felt so overwrought, may  Short n’ Sweet  please the court. And really, who else would have had the inspo to quote the riff from Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall”  in the middle of the period-appropriate Dolly-disco-country of “Please Please Please”?

Whatever Carpenter might have needed to prove here, I’d call it mission accomplished. Someone who, a year ago, seemed somewhat of a footnote to a couple of more famous artists’ stories now seems like a wholly autonomous auteur who’s in it for keeps. Yes, the Sabrina-luminati never questioned that, while it’s dawning on some of us benighted creatures literally today. But at least we finally Mountain Dew’d it, and that’s that, me.
