Heesen Yachts reveals YN 20457 Project Akira, now named Santosha
- Yacht industry
The first in Heesen's new 57-metre series, she boasts an interior volume of 780GT and features exterior lines penned by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects. Originally built on speculation, the vessel's design took a new direction when the owners came on board. Working closely with the yacht's interior designer, Harrison Eidsgaard, and Heesen's interior engineers, the clients tailored the yacht to reflect their taste and lifestyle, transforming Akira into Santosha.
The owners chose the Sanskrit name Santosha for their vessel and the lotus as a logo. This shall remind them to "remain happy under any circumstances or be contented with what we can achieve through our capacity. It creates a balance between our external and internal worlds by controlling the tyranny of the senses. Contentment is a feeling of mental satisfaction."
Peter Wilson', Owner's Representative, said: "Our collaboration with Heesen on this project has yielded an excellent result. Collectively, we have been working as a cohesive team, with each party doing their utmost to achieve a world-class superyacht - one that is distinct from her peers. This was our second project with Heesen, and we look forward to many more in the future. Once delivered, I have no doubt that the clients will enjoy Santosha to her fullest."
First revealed at the 2019 Monaco Yacht Show, Heesen's 57-metre series has a shapely silhouette with an elongated profile. A sweeping arch ties the length of the superstructure together, while the slightly raked angle of the bow gives the yacht a stretched optical length. The scooped-shaped stern ensures that the 57-metre will stand out among other superyachts berthed in a marina.
Owners' vision and personal touch
Santosha's owners envisioned an interior with a relaxed but elegant ambience, and Heesen's craftspeople masterfully executed this concept. The clients were heavily involved in material selection, incorporating many sustainable options, such as recycled wood, 'performance leather' and 'art silk' carpets. The yacht’s design seamlessly merges luxury and functionality, featuring a free-flowing layout and neutral colour palette.
The interior showcases a refined architectural hierarchy and consistency. Minimalist aesthetics, carefully considered embellishments, and unique door treatments create a sense of fluidity throughout. The design details are meticulously curated, with elements like woven leather accents around the TV in the sky lounge and gleaming curved wallpapers that reflect sunlight.
Santosha's interiors are also adorned with carefully curated art pieces. The use of art adds a playful and brave touch to the serene and elevated decor. The works are balanced by the pale-coloured floors and 'art silk' carpets, contributing to the vessel's fresh and elegant aesthetic.
Interior quarters
The yacht features a nearly 70 sqm owners' apartment, which includes a study, a full beam stateroom, and expansive bathroom. Elegant light fixtures and bespoke artwork make it a truly personal space.
The master bathroom is an ode to the Garden of Eden, with lush white-on-white designs inspired by bas-relief techniques, designed in collaboration with the client, and masterfully crafted by London-based artists of DKT studio.
The snake, a totem animal for the Owners, takes center stage in the artwork. Beyond transformation, this creature epitomizes rebirth. In its cyclical shedding of its skin, the snake becomes a symbol of renewal and resurrection. The spiritual energy of the snake inspires us to view endings not as finality but as gateways to new beginnings. The snake also represents the journey of healing.
The area also sports beautifully carved Calacatta Sponda marble and an expansive vanity desk. The guest quarters are designed with practicality in mind, drawing on the clients' extensive experience and deep understanding of life on board. They feature light, elegant aesthetics with breezy pops of colour, curated artwork, and contemporary photography, creating a serene yet playful atmosphere.
Performance
Santosha is not just a work of art but also a high-performance vessel that delivers. The Heesen 57-metre features a full aluminium hull, an iteration of the ultra-efficient FDHD devised by Dutch hydrodynamicists van Oossanen Naval architects.
The hull has been perfectly engineered by Heesen's in-house team and crafted by the shipyard's highly skilled welders. Two MTU 16V 4000 M65L (IMO Tier III) engines propel the yacht up to 22 knots and deliver a transatlantic range of 3,900NM at 13 knots. A draft of just 2.3 metres makes her an ideal platform from which to explore the turquoise shallows of the Bahamas.
Heesen's CCO Mark Cavendish comments: "Santosha is a yacht designed for those who appreciate the finer things in life, combining elegance with practicality and meticulous attention to detail with a relaxed ambience. It stands as a true testament to Heesen Yachts' commitment to excellence and innovation in yacht building."

The sale was done with Wes Sanford of Northrop & Johnson and James Corts of MarineMax introducing the client.
Project Akira will have an enclosed volume of approximately 780 gross tons and a lightweight Fast Displacement Hull Form. The design was first presented at the 2019 Monaco Yacht Show , and construction began on spec in February 2022. Delivery is expected in time for the summer 2024 season.
Power will be a pair of IMO Tier III-compliant MTU 16V 4000 M65L engines with a reported maximum speed of 22 knots.

Heesen's Project Akira Build Underway
The first of a new class of high-speed aluminium yachts by heesen enters construction….
Heesen has announced that the construction of YN 20457, Project Akira, began at the Oss shipyard on February 9, formally witnessed by the American Bureau of Shipping surveyor.
Akira is the first in a new class of high-speed aluminium yachts by Heesen. At 57m, with a volume of approximately 780 GT, it sports a fast displacement hull form (FDHF) hull that will allow for a top speed of 22 knots with two IMO III-compliant MTU 16V 4000 M65L engines. The yacht will accommodate 12 guests across six cabins.
The all-aluminium hull is the latest of the patented FDHF, devised by Dutch hydrodynamicists Van Oossanen and further engineered by Heesen’s naval architects. Due to its low-drag underwater body Akira needs less power and uses up to half the amount of fuel when compared to a conventional steel displacement yacht of the same size.
The exterior was designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects and the naval architecture was penned by Heesen, with Harrison Eidsgaard conceiving the interior space.
On the design Ben Harrison of Harrison Eidsgaard said, “Introducing us to the project so early meant that the mechanical parts of the ship were considered in tandem with the interior… key areas have been given the space they need, enhancing the flow of the yacht.”
Akira is scheduled for delivery in spring 2024. It is one of three Heesen's scheduled for delivery in 2024 and one of 10 the yard currently has in-build. HEESEN’S PROJECT AKIRA
Project Akira, the first in Heesen’s new 57-metre all-aluminium series of fast yachts, has been sold with Wes Sanford of Northrop & Johnson and James Corts of MarineMax introducing the client.
Commenting on the sale, Wes and James said: “We couldn’t be happier to have matched this family with such an excellent Dutch shipyard. Everyone involved understands and shares the value of pedigree, quality and detail, which is a great place on which to build a long relationship and a fantastic yacht.
In Project Akira, Heesen, Harrison Eidsgaard, and Omega Architects have developed an incredible yacht for cruising the world and, even more specifically, exploring The Bahamas. We look forward to completing this stunning yacht for the summer shakedown voyage in the Med. She’ll turn heads in every anchorage!”

The all-aluminium superyacht has an interior volume of 780 GT and is capable of a top speed of 22 knots. NOTABLE FEATURES OF PROJECT SANTOSHA: ~Sundeck Jacuzzi ~Beach club with large glass windows ~Customisable layout and amenities ~Abundance of indoor/outdoor dining and lounging options ~Master suite with corner bathtub ~Top speed of 22 knots ~Air conditioning ~Wi-Fi
The brow of the wheelhouse is in shadow and in conjunction with her sharp angles, gives her an aggressive 'shark's head'-like appearance. Floor-to-ceiling windows on the main deck and upper deck flood the salons with plenty of natural light and provide uninterrupted views of the destination.
From the generous lower deck swim platform guests have access to the beach club and the main deck aft, the latter offering a forward-facing C-shaped sofa and alfresco dining table, plus additional chairs to seat all guests for an alfresco meal.
The upper deck has a similar setup along the stern, and an alfresco dining table is placed beneath the shade of the sundeck overhang. Side walkways connect around to the foredeck, where there is a C-shaped sofa and raised table for enjoying uninterrupted forward views of the location. Further down on the bow there is a Davit crane and storage for the tenders that frees up space for the beach club on the lower deck.
The sundeck is the outdoor socialising hub and provides a broad sunbed along the stern, a central bar and alfresco lounging/dining area shaded by the hardtop, and a forward Jacuzzi surrounded on both sides by sunpads.
Harrison Eidsgaard designed the interiors with a light contemporary palette and free-flowing layout created in harmony with the exterior living spaces.
The majority of the guest and crew accommodation is placed on the lower deck along with a beach club in the stern.

HEESEN YACHTS REVEALS YN 20457 PROJECT AKIRA, NOW NAMED SANTOSHA
Heesen Yachts is delighted to reveal YN20457 Santosha, formerly known as Project Akira, ahead of her delivery to experienced owners this fall. The first in Heesen’s new 57-metre series, she boasts an interior volume of 780GT and features exterior lines penned by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects. Originally built on speculation, the vessel’s design took a new direction when the owners came on board. Heesen launches 55m "restyled" superyacht Serena in the Netherlands
Related articles, superyacht directory.
Dutch shipyard Heesen has launched the 55-metre superyacht Serena from its facilities in Oss, the Netherlands in a ceremony attended by the owners and their family. The superyacht is the seventh unit in the shipyard's 55-metre Steel series, and the second to be built with a restyled exterior.
Serena was sold to her "experienced owner" in 2022 after beginning construction on speculation. The buyer was introduced by Arcon Yachts in Monaco with the firm representing the owner throughout the build.
She features a number of styling modifications that set her apart from her sisterships, the likes of Vida and Moskito , which include the removal of the mullions in the saloon and skylounge, as well as concealed crew access to the sundeck and a squared Jacuzzi. Her restyled exterior is the work of Omega Architects .
Other design adaptations for this new series model include a more aggressive profile, created by using continuous sheets of tinted glass, as well as a French balcony in the owner’s suite.
The new design of this 55 Steel also features extended exterior deck spaces to improve functionality, with additional stairways for increased crew access. On board highlights include casual al fresco dining spaces, a sprawling sundeck with a whirlpool and wraparound bar, as well as a vast private apartment for the owner’s suite, outfitted with walk-in wardrobes. Accommodation is for 12 guests across five cabins.
Luca Dini is responsible for the interiors of the yacht and accommodation is configured with the owner’s cabin on the main deck, a spacious VIP cabin on the wheelhouse deck and four additional guest cabins on the lower deck. Special attention was paid to the height of seating arrangements and user-friendly, practical materials, with interiors also incorporating velvet finishes, smoked eucalyptus and Amazonite marble inlays.
The main saloon features a bronze-finished bar which serves the main deck aft and the lounge, with a second bar found in the skylounge alongside a games table. Another highlight is the redesigned atrium which incorporates hand-blown glass and hand-sculpted metal light fixtures from US-based designer John Pomp.
According to BOATPro , Heesen has 10 yachts currently in build or under construction – the largest of which is the 57-metre Project Setteesettanta .
This follows the announcement that another unit in its 55 Steel series had been sold, provisionally known as Project Venus.

The iconic exterior design with fast-moving lines and sporty curves has been designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, and the inimitable Christiano Gatto is in charge of modern and elegant interiors.
ASTER technical characteristics are largely determined by the unique shipyard know-how - special fast displacement hull which makes possible maximum speed of 23 knots and internal volumes up to 500 gross tons, while the cruising range reaches 3100 nautical miles at a comfortable speed of 11 knots. The yacht has powerful engines MTU 16V 4000.
There are 5 spacious cabins for 12 guests onboard ASTER : 4 guest cabins are located on the lower deck with magnificent master suite on the main deck, plus 9 crew members will be in charge of comfort and service on board. Sophisticated design of the yacht with various elements of decoration will make the lounge areas on board, including spacious saloon on the main deck and sky-lounge, refined but not overloaded with the details, which was one of the primary demands of the discerning Owner.
ASTER will be delivered to the Owner in June 2019 in time under careful control of ARCON YACHTS and HEESEN specialists, after thorough sea trials in the North Sea.
