Aquila Power Catamarans hosted the world premiere of its 42 Yacht at the Miami International Boat Show in mid-February.

The Aquila 42 Yacht has multiple layouts and is a perfect option for someone looking for a pocket cruiser ; in the standard configuration, there are two staterooms and a utility cabin. Three- and four-stateroom versions are also available.

Owners also have a choice of engines from Volvo Penta. Aquila says the 42 Yacht is designed for cruising as well as entertaining. There are three outdoor spaces to get the party started.

“Our international Aquila team worked with the famous French VPLP designers to bring this amazing power catamaran to the market, using computational fluid dynamics and finite element analysis to enhance the performance and comfort at sea,” Lex Raas, president of Aquila Power Catamarans, stated in a press release. “As well as partnering with European Chedal Anglay for a modern interior design, incorporating our Aquila Yachts DNA of bulbs, walkway from the flybridge, opening aft bar, patented dinghy crane, patented swim ladder, largest panoramic cabin windows in class and our standard CE Category A certification, all culminating in a 42-foot power catamaran unrivaled in the world.”

Interior Walk Through

Entering the salon via a starboard oriented sliding door, you will find a wet bar with sink and cocktail ice maker immediately to starboard. The ship's electrical service panel is also conveniently located here within easy reach of the cockpit and salon door. All cabinetry and trim satin finished teak making this space warm and inviting.

The new custom Ivory upholstery on the L-shaped sofa and cocktail chair is the perfect contrast to the rich wood finish. Dinette is forward to starboard with L-shaped seating, galley is to starboard featuring a full-size refrigerator freezer.

Custom lambrequins and window blinds, plush carpeting and entertainment amenities provide all the comforts of home.

Walking down the companionway steps there is a fully private VIP stateroom with an intelligently designed offset lower double berth and an oversized single upper berth. Oversized private head and shower is to port. The master is forward featuring an island queen berth, his and hers cedar-lined hanging closets and abundant storage.

A BOW MADE FOR AL FRESCO LIVING

The asymmetrical split-level layout of the bow is designed to maximize space for outdoor living. Up top is an ample cushioned sunbathing area while just below is a versatile al fresco lounge-come-dining zone with a six-person table surrounded by an inviting C-shaped divan.

WAVE WATCHING

The helm area is flanked by windows in the hull that sweep up to gunwale level, creating a visual connection with the exterior environment. This exciting design feature also places the pilot right amongst the action, in the heart of the wake at high speeds, with water rushing by on either side almost as though it were part of the boat’s structure.

VERSATILITY AT ITS UTMOST

The galley is fitted out with a fridge, washing machine, cooktop and plenty of storage. The dinette can be easily converted into a comfortable double bed, sectioned off from the galley by a curtain.

A COMFORT-CENTRIC PHILOSOPHY

The full-size bathroom has a separate closable shower. A generous window allows natural light to illuminate it.

OUR ADVANCED TOOLKIT

The high-performance patented Stepped ‘V’ Ventilated Tunnel (SVVT) was developed by Michael Peters and incorporates a classic deep ‘V’ hull with two transverse steps and a central tunnel aft. It is this latter feature that sets it apart from other current stepped deep ‘V’s, with its shallow aft central tunnel increasing the longitudinal stability of the boat in high speed turns and adverse situations. The use of the SVVT hull on the Verve 42 represents the merging of cutting-edge hull forms with advanced outboard engine power and avant-garde concept design and styling. The combination of technologies culminates in a boat that boasts unmatchable performance, manoeuvrability and speed in its class and represents the largest and grandest SVVT pleasure boat available on the market.

Azimut’s pioneering use of carbon fiber lamination goes beyond pure performance. The Carbon Tech Generation offers expanded volumes onboard, while maintaining excellent dynamic stability and perfect handling. Preserving the yacht’s low center of gravity, the carbon fiber was focused on the upper parts of the yacht, lightening the laminated components by up to 30% and reducing the natural roll momentum up to 15%.

The Verve 42 can reach a top speed of 43 knots and cruises at 32 knots with three 400 hp Mercury outboard engines. It’s the ideal propulsion for dynamic and sporty yachts, such as the new Verve 42, with an unbeatable weight-to-power ratio. The pilot feels effortlessly in command with smooth handling and responsive controls. Low displacement is another important design objective accomplished thanks to this advanced solution.

Yacht Catches Fire, Sinks at Wildwood Marina; No Injuries Reported

WILDWOOD, NJ — A 42-foot yacht caught fire and sank on Thursday afternoon while moored at the fuel dock of Schooner Island Marina, according to the City of Wildwood Fire Department. The vessel was fully engulfed in flames before 1 p.m., prompting a significant emergency response.

Firefighters from Wildwood, North Wildwood, and Erma initially responded to the scene. Upon arrival, the severity of the fire led to an upgrade to a full first alarm assignment, which brought in off-duty firefighters and additional resources from Wildwood Crest, Rio Grande, and Stone Harbor fire companies. Fire boats from North Wildwood and Stone Harbor also assisted in battling the blaze.

The fire happened just feet away from the marina fuel pumps.

The firefighters launched an “aggressive attack” on the fire, which had spread to the dock and a nearby shed. Despite their efforts, the yacht eventually sank due to the large volume of water used to extinguish the flames. A subsequent fuel fire ignited on the water’s surface but was quickly contained using foam. The fire was declared under control within approximately 40 minutes.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

Bronx, N.Y. — The New York City Police Department is investigating a robbery and assault that occurred late Monday evening in the Bronx. The incident took place on August 12, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of West 190th Street and Jerome Avenue.

According to police reports, a 57-year-old man was walking to his residence when he was approached by five unidentified individuals. The suspects proceeded to kick and punch the victim multiple times before stealing his wallet, cellphone, and debit card. Despite the assault, the victim did not require hospitalization.

The suspects remained at the scene following the robbery. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

The NYPD is asking for the public's assistance in identifying and locating the individuals involved.

"Anyone with information is urged to contact the authorities," the New York City Police Department said in a statement.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Residents are being cautioned about a new phone scam in which callers pose as Metropolitan Police officers, threatening individuals with arrest unless they provide personal information or comply with other demands.

Scammers have been impersonating members of the MPD, falsely claiming that victims are facing imminent arrest. The callers often request additional personal details or instruct victims to surrender themselves to the police.

Residents receiving such calls are advised not to act under pressure. Although scammers may possess some personal details, such as names and addresses, this does not validate their legitimacy. The MPD emphasizes the importance of verifying any claims by directly contacting the relevant agency through official contact information available on their websites.

"The Metropolitan Police Department will never demand payment by phone," the MPD said in a statement. Residents are urged not to share credit card numbers, personal details, or financial information with unknown callers. Additionally, they should avoid wire transfers or fund transfers to unfamiliar individuals.

The MPD encourages the public to inform friends and family about the scam to prevent others from falling victim.

3 men charged in Anchorage woman’s cold-case shooting

Three men now face murder charges in the shooting death of an Anchorage woman nearly three years ago.

Court records show Neville Herndon, 42; Claymonte Otero, 24; and Myron Clark, 30, each charged with first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and three counts of first-degree assault in the death of 28-year-old Alexandra Briseno.

According to an initial police statement, Briseno’s body was found early on Nov. 26, 2021 – the day after Thanksgiving – when officers responded to a shots-fired call on the 3100 block of Cheechako Street, in a residential area off West Benson Boulevard. Officers also found a man with gunshot wounds, who was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Few additional details were available this week about the men charged.

An indictment against the men, returned Thursday by a grand jury, lists nearly two dozen search warrants and six witnesses consulted as evidence. It does not explain how or why Briseno was shot, or what led police to the three men.

State prosecutors declined to comment.

Anchorage TV station Alaska’s News Source reported Monday that Herndon and Otero pleaded not guilty during an initial court appearance, with Otero appearing by phone. Briseno’s mother said she was “grateful and relieved” that police had made progress in the case.

Herndon is being held at the Cook Inlet Pretrial Facility in Anchorage, while Otero is being held at the Spring Creek Correctional Facility near Seward. Clark is not in custody, and court records show an arrest warrant with a total bail of $300,000 issued for him Thursday.
