What is a catamaran?

A catamaran is characterized by its two hulls which are connected by a carrying deck. This gives you several advantages: Firstly, you have more space not only on deck but also inside the hulls than on a normal monohull sailing ship. Secondly, a catamaran lies much more stable in the water than a monohull and a catamaran is much faster on the water, because it has no keel, it almost flies over the water.

There are basically two types of catamarans: There are the classic sailing catamarans which are also used for sportive regattas and comfortable holiday trips. On the other hand there are the motor catamarans, which are mostly used for ferry trips, because they are faster.

What is special about sailing catamarans in Gran Canaria?

If you have never sailed on a sailing catamaran before, then you absolutely have to try it, because this sportive sightseeing tour on the Atlantic Ocean is the absolute hit for young and old. With the sporty speedsters you can easily flit across the sea. As these catamarans are very light, they also sail much faster than other sailing ships.

How safe is catamaran sailing in Gran Canaria?

If you do not have a sailing licence, there is still the possibility to rent a catamaran with skipper. The skipper can also tell you some interesting facts about the coast and the Atlantic Ocean.

Tour Description

The Super Cat in Gran Canaria is the biggest excursion boat of Gran Canaria. The SuperCat have a capacity of 250 people but limit its capacity for the trips to a maximum of 100 persons this is so everybody have enough place and can easily see the dolphins.

This boat trip is all-inclusive so, this means that your food (Grilled Chicken, Canarian Potatoes with Mojo sauce, Canarian salad) and drinks (beer straight from draft, Sangria, and all kind of soft drinks, Juice & Water) are included in the price, Also some activities like snorkeling (b´coz of Covid you might have to bring your own mouth peice)  and a Banana Boat ride.

Activities like Jetski, Parasailing, Crazy UFO, Jet Boat, Fly Board, kayak, Stand-up paddle, etc come at an extra cost, but don’t worry you can do this with a 50% discount.

Also, there are pick-up possibilities for this excursion.

This all-inclusive luxury boat trip comes with Two options:

Option-1 : 2-hour Dolphin trip,

2-hour dolphin trip with the SuperCat Catamaran.

On the 2-hour dolphin trip, we almost guarantee you that you will spot the flying fish, sea turtles, and dolphins. In case you don’t see the dolphins we will give you a ticket for another day.

In the meanwhile the crew is looking for sea life, you and your partner, Family etc.. can enjoy the Sunchairs and work on your sun tan, with a free drink in your hand.

This is the amount you pay to reserve your Afrikat charter date. The deposit, in this case, is a portion of the total amount to be paid and therefore will not be returned after the activity.

The remaining amount to be paid is noted as Arrival. You will pay this on the day of your booked experience upon check-in at the luxury yacht in Puerto Rico. This can be done in cash or via card unless your ticket states otherwise.

Your paid down payment, and the amount to be paid on arriving, will be listed on your E-ticket that you will receive after you place your order.

Afrikat Catamaran information

• Do not forget your Club Canary ticket. You can have it on your phone or printed out.
• Make sure you carry some cash and a credit card with you, as the tour requires final payment before it begins.
• Pack your swimwear, a towel and sunscreen.
• The crew of this boat speaks several languages.
• A maximum of 66 participants can join the private trip.
• On the catamaran, there are sunbathing spots and sitting areas in the shade. 
• The catamaran is accessible for people in a wheelchair.
• Smoking is allowed only at the designated areas.

• This experience requires good weather. If it’s cancelled due to hazardous weather conditions, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.
• You may cancel or reschedule the trip for free up to 14 days in advance. Send us your request by email: [email protected]. 
• Cancellation up to 10 days before the event 50% refund.
• Cancellation 7 days before the event 0% refund.
• If you do not cancel in time or you don’t show up you lose the deposit. 
• If you get sick or want to end the trip earlier, you won’t get refunded.

Sagitarius Cat Dolphin Trip

Come on board – Sail with us for a day on a catamaran along the west coast of Gran Canaria and, with a bit of luck, experience dolphins, flying fish and turtles up close!

After the pick up at the hotel, we go directly to the port of Puerto Rico, from where we start with our catamaran. 

We drive along the west coast, accompanied from time to time by dolphins, which can be admired here in their natural habitat. Flying fish, turtles and even whales also call this area home.

In one of the beautiful bays, we then drop anchor for a long swim break. Here everyone can take part in the popular banana ride. The crystal clear water also invites you to admire the variety of fish. 

For the more adventurous, there is a parasailing offer, as well as a reduced price on the jet ski ride. 

After cooling down, lunch is already waiting for you to recharge your batteries. While the crew takes care of everything, you can relax in the sun, chill to the music and enjoy the breathtaking view. 

After about 4 hours we will go back along the coast to Puerto Rico, from where we will drive you back to the hotel.

Catamaran Cruise & Dolphins Gran Canaria

This is what the perfect catamaran tour in Gran Canaria looks like: watching dolphins and having fun in the sea! Drinks and food are of course also included on this tour. The tour begins with the search for these impressive sea creatures, and due to the large variety of species, the probability of seeing one is extremely high. In addition, dolphins love to swim in the bow wave, so they like to approach the boats and accompany them for a while. After this moving encounter, you will navigate along the impressive cliffs, finally drop anchor, and the fun in the ocean begins. Great water sports such as jet skiing or parasailing are available at reduced prices on board, and a fast ride on the banana boat is even free. You can also relax below deck in the jacuzzi with a cool drink. Seeing dolphins and enjoying the sea – an absolutely fantastic catamaran tour on Gran Canaria!

To see whales and dolphins, disembark at Puerto Rico Harbor. You will be picked up and brought back from Maspalomas, Playa del Ingles, Puerto de Mogán and many other holiday resorts in the south of Gran Canaria.

Please note that although the probability of a sighting is extremely high, it cannot be guaranteed. The experienced crew will do everything necessary to make this extraordinary experience possible.

Please keep in mind that the dolphins and whales are not to be disturbed during this tour. We therefore ask for your understanding that the boat will always keep at a distance from the animals. Approach and interaction does always exclusively come from the dolphins depending on their humor.

This was probably the worst trip I’ve ever been on. Yes we have seen dolphins for 5 minutes but that was it. A lot of the passenger’s (about 40%) were sick due to the waves. I got sick a few hours after. It was a very crowdy trip with lot of passengers (about 200) and with a crew that weren’t helpful or friendly in any way. But yes we have seen dolphins but that was it.

Quite expensive. When we got to the boat it was already full, so we had to stand up. The boat’s engine stalled just after departure, but their mechanic managed to fix that part. They managed to find a group of dolphins, which we got to look at for maybe 15 minutes. There was free access to cheap beer. Which was lucky, because otherwise I probably would have jumped overboard

The catamaran included lunch and drinks (beer, sangria, wine and soft drinks). The trip goes from Puerto Rico in the South of the Island, going west past Taurito and then east past Patalavaca. There is an opportunity to swim and also you can go on the jet skis and do paragliding (for an extra charge – 29 euros). The lunch was simple – chicken, salad, potatoes and bread. You get picked up from your hotel (or close by) – quite a cheap day out when you consider all of the food and drink was included. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

The bathing stop was not, as in the description, in the bay Güi Güi, but we anchored almost directly in front of a very busy beach / port. An anchoring in a more tranquil environment would have been nice. Otherwise, everything was great … crew, food, weather perfect!

This All Inclusive Catamaran trip in Gran Canaria is the perfect thing to do for those of you who would like a fun-filled day out and wish to sample many different Watersports at great discounted rates.

The Catamaran sails every day from 10:30 - 14:30, from Puerto Rico. Transport from your hotel is included from all of the Tourist resorts in the South of Gran Canaria, including Playa Del Ingles, Maspalomas, Melonares, Bahia Feliz, San Agustin, Puerto Mogan and Taurito.

Beer, wine, sangria and soft drinks are included during the trip. Lunch is also included.

Enjoy the glorious sunshine and coastline, whilst we gently cruise to our swim stop where snorkeling equiptment is provided for those of you who would like to snorkel. We include a Banana Boat Ride for those who would like to try it out. Parasailing, Jet boat (very fast speed boat), Jet Skis, Flyboarding, the Crazy UFO and many more, can all be tried for the adventurous ones amongst you and you will receive up to 50% Discount on these activities. This is a perfect boat trip to relax and the best boat trip to do your watersports but we do see Dolphins frequently but we cannot guarantee you will see Dolphins.

What are you waiting for

After boarding the Catamaran in the harbour of Puerto Rico, we sail South West of the Island, towards  Playa De Taurito, or Playa De Tauro, made famous for its rustic feel (weather depending).

Enjoy the glorious Canarian sunshine, whilst chilling on the nets or one of the padded deck areas, whilst listening to chilled tunes played through the trip.

There is an inclusive bar during the entire trip and this includes beer, wine, sangria, and soft drinks, so laying in the sun with a cold drink seems like the perfect thing to do! For those who struggle with the heat, there is a shaded area also.

After an hour or so, we reach our swim stop point. This is the time for those of you who want to cool off, to jump off the boat and enjoy the ocean.

Lunch is served, which is freshly prepared by our chef on board and it is very nice. It is marinated chicken, canarian potatoes, mojo sauce (Canarian speciality), salad and fresh bread.

As we cruise a little further, you should take this time to relax with a full stomach and sunbathe with a cocktail or beer.

Our final stop is where you can all enjoy a banana boat ride (included).

For those who love the watersports, here is your opportunity to try them out and receive a 50% Discount on the Jet Ski, Parasailing, Jet Boat (very fast speed boat), Fly boarding, where the jets attatched to your ankles throw you high into the air and many more…

When everyone is back on board, it is time to return to the harbour of Puerto Rico with a drink in hand and enjoying the sun and coastline.

Once you have departed the boat, you are returned to your resort by coach transfer (included).

Nice day out and the crew were really nice and helpful. Food was good and plenty to drink.

2 people in our group did the Jet Ski’s and 3 did the Parasailing. Pick up and return to hotel was included in the price. The only 2 negative things were we didn’t get the Parasailing pictures o n the day but they have pulled out all the stops to get the photo’s for us. The other thing the transport from our hotel to the boat did take quite a long time the driver told us it was because clients were late coming out so this wasn’t the boat companies fault and the service all in all was fantastic.

Would definitely recommend!

Erasmus spring break

Twelve people in our Erasmus group did this tour last week and we all had a fab time. Great value for money, food was fab and drinks are plentiful and packed a punch. The staff were so nice and friendly. Some of our group paid for extra water sport activities, although they said they were a little short but I guess this is normal where ever you go and do Jetski’s in the world but they did really enjoy them. I would highly recommend this trip if you fancy a good day out with your friends or family.

Is return transport included?

Yes return transport is included from the main tourist resorts in Gran Canaria including Playa del ingles, Maspalomas, Puerto Mogan, Amadores, San Agustin, Bahia Feliz, Taurito. Pick up times are from 09:00 am - 09:45 am depending on where you are staying all this will be confirmed in your booking confirmation email as soon as you have booked.

How far in advance should I book a tour?

We recommend that you book your Gran Canaria excursions as far in advance as possible, in order to guarantee your trip and day of your choice. Some Excursions will fill up quicker than others, for example; Boat Trips, Jeep Safari’s and Buggy Tours fill up very quickly as they have a limited capacity. It also depends on the time of year that you are travelling to Gran Canaria, as some months are much busier than others.

What happens once I book?

As soon as you book you will shorty receive an email confirmation and Text/SMS, confirming your excursion date and time of your pick up and confirmation of the deposit received if you havn’t received your confirmation please firstly check your email spam folder, just in case. If you don’t receive it within 15 minutes, please contact us and we will send it manually to you.

Do I need to bring my Passport or ID?

For activities such as Quad biking and Buggy tours and self drive Jeep tours, proof of age is required, as is a full driving license (card, not paper license) so please bring both documents for these trips.

What is the refund policy?

Deposit reservations are non-refundable. In the event of a trip or activity being cancelled, we will try to transfer you on to the next available trip. However, if for any reason this is not possible you will be issued a full refund.

Introduction to Piment Rouge

A new catamaran is rallying to the Caribbean this fall. Piment Rouge (Red Pepper), the name of Captain Pierre De Saint Vincent’s former Outremer 51, which has crisscrossed the Atlantic between the Caribbean and the Mediterranean over the last three years, is now the moniker of his just-launched 50’ Catana Ocean Class yacht. De Saint Vincent will take delivery of the new Catana cat this summer and then prepare her to sail in the ARC+.

The ARC+ Rally Overview

The ARC+ is a World Cruising Club-run rally that departs La Palmas in Gran Canaria on November 10, with a stop in Cape Verde, before finishing at Camper and Nicholsons Port Louis Marina, in Grenada. It’s here in Grenada that cat-connoisseurs can get a look at this new Catana design.
