This is how it began 

Werner Dörries founds an engineering office in Bremen, Northern Germany. The focus is on quantity and quality control of technical goods at home and abroad. 

New focal points 

Over time, the company shifts its focus to technical and planning-related services, mainly in connection with the construction of motor yachts, and the company is renamed Dörries Yacht Consultants.

Consolidation

Due to increasing demand for maritime services, Werner Dörries founds Dörries Maritime Services GmbH in 2009. 

In spring 2013, Werner Dörries founds Dörries Yachts GmbH, laying the foundation for the Dörries Yachts umbrella brand. Since then, both companies have co-existed on the yacht market and offer different services. Dörries Yachts gradually builds up an interdisciplinary specialist network and has since been advising international customers in connection with the conversion and new construction of motor yachts. The list of new build and conversion projects is growing continuously.

The Dörries Yachts Group is increasingly focussing on the turnkey conversion and new construction of motor yachts. Dörries Yachts GmbH is awarded the contract for the conversion of a 50-metre motor yacht. Dörries Maritime Services GmbH & Co. KG supports them in handling the order.

The first project company 

The first project company is founded under the Dörries Yachts umbrella brand: Dörries Yachtbau I GmbH. It is awarded the contract to build a 114-metre motor yacht. The Dörries Yachts umbrella brand is protected throughout Europe.

Further companies, new structures 

This is followed by the second independent project company, Dörries Yachtbau II GmbH. It takes over the remaining work on the conversion of the 50-metre motor yacht from Dörries Yachts GmbH. The third independent project company, Dörries Yachtbau III GmbH, is established in the same year.  Dörries Maritime Services GmbH & Co. KG is transformed into Dörries Werft GmbH. In the future, it will exclusively support the project companies of the Dörries Group. It is responsible for the planning and realisation of the production halls and facilities in Bremerhaven. The tasks of the parent company, Dörries Yachts GmbH, are essentially sales, marketing and public relations for the other companies under the Dörries Yachts umbrella brand.

In order to offer sales prices that are equal or even less than those asked for by other market players in Northern Europe, Dörries Yachts decided to reduce general costs, in particular caused by administration and sales, without adverse effects on quality and delivery times. With this in mind, we further developed a business model that we call the “Shipyard on demand”.

Shipyard on demand means that we do not have our own facilities and, apart from a core team, we do not employ permanent staff. As a result, we have to allocate only reasonably low general costs. Possible capacity constraints are met by collaborating with a consortium of experienced German and Dutch companies actively engaged in the yacht market.

Low general costs and moderate profit rates combined with performance based workflows, professional project management and passionate stakeholders enable Dörries Yachts to offer luxury motor yachts “made in Germany” at very competitive sales prices.

To that end, the spa zone is equipped with an infinity pool, a spa bath, a plunge pool, a massage room, and an aesthetics salon. The interior layout is also arranged in such a way that the crew can provide seamless service to seafarers and still maintain their own well-being.

Olesinski designed Rise at the request of Dörries Yachts . The German yard wanted a vessel focused on wellness, as the trend has well and truly infiltrated the marine sector. ( Nuvolari-Lenard and Arcadia Yachts are just two of many industry players incorporating enhanced areas for health and wellness into new concepts.)

“We began discussions with Justin Olesinski and agreed that we wanted to create something that centered around wellness, a focal point that we have seen a huge increase in in the market,” the yard’s CEO, Henning Dörries, explains.

The spa is simply the cherry on top of one sophisticated superyacht. Rise showcases long, sleek lines, cascading curved decks, and a near-vertical bow that together create an undeniably striking silhouette. With a beam of roughly 45 feet, the newcomer has a large living area that can be easily navigated by the elevator.

The light and airy interior can accommodate up to 12 seafarers in six generous staterooms. The pick of the bunch is, of course, the owner’s suite. Located forward on the upper deck, the secluded haven includes a bedroom, a private office, a dressing room, and an en suite.

“Our hope is that Rise will appeal to a client who wants a unique yacht with wellness at the heart of the design but also with Northern European build quality; without the need to wait years in order to start the build,” added Dörries.

Dörries Yachts GmbH is a German yacht builder who specialize in the construction of luxury superyachts primarily in the total-length range between 37 metres and 100m +. The shipyard is known for their high-quality craftsmanship, attention to detail and the ability to build yachts that are competitively priced but nevertheless, crafted with the quality yacht owners may expect from a luxury superyacht ‘Made in Germany’.

Today, acting in a network of expert companies Dörries Yachts founded in 2013, has been involved in several refits and conversions. Last year Dörries Yachts secured the new build contract for a 114m luxury motor yacht. At present Dörries Yachts employs around 40 people in sales, administration, engineering, and fabrication. Depending on the required scope of in-house engineering and manufacturing, this number will be constantly adapted to technical and commercial requirements.

Dorries debuts design for 85m luxury river cruiser superyacht

New superyacht company Dörries Yachts has revealed the design of a different sort of a superyacht, an 85m luxury river cruiser.

Originally designed upon request of a client, a range of Dörries River Yachts is now being designed in collaboration with London, UK-based design house H2 Yacht Design, who have also designed interiors for the yachts. The line will include 60-, 70- and 85-metre private superyachts designed to ply rivers and the Intracoastal Waterway of the United States. The Dörries River Yachts are also designed for safe navigation in coastal waterways, which will extend their usability and take advantage of the yacht's nearly 3,000 nautical mile range.

The first design from the German-based Dörries Yachts is an 85m yacht that will boast a gross tonnage of 2,600, a drive-in tender garage, a helicopter pad and a heated indoor-outdoor pool measuring 15 metres by three metres.

Dörries and H2 have collaborated on existing designs for a more traditional 85m superyacht based on the platform for Blohm+Voss 82m Graceful , and they also most recently introduced a new Dörries Yachts 58m design by H2 .

Emperor tsar saint, imperial yachts exhibition opens in kaliningrad.

On 31st August 2024, a new exhibition The Imperial Yachts opened at the Museum of the World Ocean in Kaliningrad. The exhibit is joint project with the Peterhof State Museum. The exhibition explores the history of the Imperial Yachts, and their role in the life of the Russian Imperial Court, from Peter the Great to Nicholas II.

The Russian Imperial Yachts fell under the administration of the Naval Guards, founded in 1710, during the reign of Peter the Great. The Naval Guards conducted their service on the Imperial Yachts, and carried out regularl inspections of the vessels. In 1912, the Naval Guards also included Emperor Nicholas II, Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna, Tsesatevich Alexei Nikolaevich, Grand Dukes Alexander and Nikolai Mikhailovich, Kirill Vladimirovich, Konstantin and Dmitri Konstantinovich.

During the 18th century, the Baltic Fleet already had more than 30 court and admiralty yachts. Some of them, for example, the yacht Happiness , impressed with their rich exterior décor and luxurious interior decoration. Over time, the design and appearance of Imperial Yachts change significantly. In the middle of the 19th century, during the reign of Emperors Nicholas I and Alexander II, elegant high-speed ships appeared, designed for better seaworthiness and increased comfort. Their interior decoration close ly resembled that of “floating palaces”.

The exhibition introduces visitors to the construction and operation of the Shtandart / Standart , the favourite Imperial Yacht of Emperor Nicholas II . The Shtandart / Standart , was the largest ocean-going yacht in the world, with the most advanced engineering and naval technology of it’s time. Other Imperial Yachts included the Livadia , Tsarevna , Alexandria , Derzhava and Polar Star – the personal yacht of the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna . Both the Shtandart / Standart and the Polar Star had their own on-board chapels, in which members of the Imperial Family could attend services and pray while at sea.

The exhibition features more than 100 items, including maritime paintings and graphic works, a unique collection of services – porcelain and glassware – made for the Imperial Yachts, as well as navigation and other maritime items used on board. The exhibition is further complemented by scale models of the Imperial Yachts, uniforms, clothing and personal items of members of the Imperial Family, books and photographs which reflect life on board these luxurious vessels and their respective sea voyages.

The Imperial Yachts exhibition runs until 25th November 2024 at the Museum of the World Ocean in Kaliningrad.
