your Hampton Yacht Club Foundation.

The Foundation really wants you to see that we are your foundation. There is no point in having a Yacht Club Foundation if we are not carrying out the goals of our Club Members and donors. As a start, the Foundation Board has created a draft Mission Statement. Check it out and let us know what you would like changed. We are accepting comments throughout May. Then expect to see us off and running. Send comments to [email protected] .

Consider donating to your Foundation. Check out the Donations FAQs to help you figure out how best to support your Foundation. In the FAQs you will learn about making restricted and unrestricted donations allowing you, for example, to restrict your donation to support Junior Sailing, about making a one-time donation or scheduling monthly donations, about donating a boat or sails, about buying naming rights on Junior Sailing boats or sails, about legacy donations and about boosting your donation at no cost to you with a matching donation from your employer.

This web page is temporary. Once we know what you want us to do we will develop specific programs to accomplish these goals and will use this page to highlight these programs and our progress on them.

So speak up and let us hear from you. Speak up and make this your Foundation.

HAMPTON YACHT CLUB FOUNDATION

Mission statement.

The Hampton Yacht Club Foundation (the “ Foundation” ) is a corporation organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. The Foundation promotes participation in boating, education and environmental awareness through collaborative programming, fundraising and community partnerships. The mission includes

supporting amateur youth sailing, youth sailing instruction, water safety instruction, amateur youth sailboat racing, boating and marine education and other activities conducted through the junior sailing program operated by the Hampton Yacht Club, Inc. (“HYC”),

supporting adult sailing, sailing instruction, water safety instruction, sailboat racing, boating and marine education and other activities conducted for the benefit of the members of HYC and the general public, and

supporting other boating and maritime-related activities.

The Foundation plans to achieve its Mission through several initiatives, including

supporting the Junior Sailing program at HYC, including needs-based scholarships to support participants in the program’s various sailing camps and, where possible, by accepting boat donations either for re-sale, for use in the program or in the adult sailing program at HYC,

working with organizations which emphasize youth learn-to-sail, especially for youth who would not normally have an opportunity to learn to sail, including by providing needs-based scholarships to these youths, and

working with youth sailing programs to encourage their students to participate in youth sailing racing at HYC, including by providing needs-based scholarships to these youths if needed.

Ways to Donate to the Hampton Yacht Club Foundation

Does the Foundation accept general and restricted donations?

The Foundation accepts both restricted and unrestricted donations, although, at present, restricted donations may only be restricted for use with the Junior Sailing program. Unless you indicate with your donation that your donation is restricted for Junior Sailing, your donation will be available for all Foundation programs, including Junior Sailing. In order to help fund the Foundation, which is all volunteer, 15% of restricted donations will be treated as available for general purposes.

How can I donate money to the Foundation?

Check – send a check to the Club addressed to the Foundation and made out to “Hampton Yacht Club Foundation” or “HYC Foundation”.

PayPal – Just click the " Donate to the Foundation " button above. & you will be redirected to our PayPal donation page. There you will have the ability to make a one-time donation or a recurring donation. You will also have the ability to make a restricted or unrestricted donation using a PayPal account or a Card.

Junior Sailing Amazon Wish List – Did you know that Junior Sailing has an Amazon Wish List of inexpensive equipment needs? They do and most items are under $50 with only two over $100. Check out the list: https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/52KXYA9YTOR . Pick out some items, go through the checkout process without actually paying, determine the full price with sales taxes and delivery and donate the full checkout amount to the Foundation as a restricted donation for Junior Sailing. Then send us an e-mail at [email protected] telling us the amount of the donation and which items you picked. The

Foundation will provide your items to Junior Sailing in your name.

Employer Match – Want to donate for free? Well, sort of. Many employers have programs in place to match all or a portion of your donation. You donate $100, they donate $100. You donate $500, they donate $500. You will be credited in the Foundation’s Donor Circle for the full amount of your donation and your employer’s match. Contact us at  [email protected] for more information –- we can help you figure out if your employer has a matching program.

Legacy Donation – Consider making a planned legacy donation as part of your estate planning process. Contact the Foundation at [email protected] if you are interested. We have simple paper work which you can use as part of this process. Be sure to involve your estate planner.

Can I donate a boat to the Foundation?

Please contact the Foundation at [email protected] if you wish to donate a boat. At the moment, the Foundation is only accepting donations of sailboats and/or RIBs and only on a case-by-case basis. Boats must be of the type currently used by the Junior or adult sailing programs. Boats must be in good or better condition and come with all sails and other equipment necessary to make them sailable and safe without further expense to the Foundation.

Does the Club offer “naming rights” on its Junior Sailing boats/sails?

Please contact the Foundation at [email protected] if you wish to receive naming rights. This type of donation is still under discussion.

Are my donations to the Foundation tax deductible?

Only your tax adviser can fully answer this question, and circumstances may vary, however, the Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity and by and large the full amount of your donation should be tax deductible.

Great Bay Yacht Club

Founded to foster the spirit of sailing in the community around the Great Bay area.

Fundraising

2021 GBYC Yard “Sail” :  On November 13, 2021, GBYC held a Nautical Yard Sail at the DAV Post on Back River Road in Dover. John O’Connor worked very hard to set this up!  Other club members helped to bring and set out wonderful treasures from our garages and basements.  Amazing deals were had that day on everything from hardware to books to sails and electronics. We had some great raffle prizes and the day was a success, bringing in $1000 for the club.

2019 Update:   Thanks to the generosity of so many members and former members of GBYC, we reached our fundraising goal for GBYC improvements in 2018! Our 60th Anniversary Celebration was a great success and we thank all those from our tight-knit community who participated and have given generously of their time and energy over the years.

Dear Friend of Great Bay Yacht Club:

Phil Paine’s 1954 “A Birth of a Yacht Club” describes a perfect yacht club where he and Ned McIntosh would meet on the Great Bay and match race around government marks – no Race Committee, no dues.

60 years ago, their vision became the Great Bay Yacht Club.

Formally incorporated in 1958, GBYC was regularly holding formal sailboat races by then. Land was purchased, race committees formed, and yes, dues paying members acquired.

Today Great Bay Yacht Club still represents that perfect club and we continue to honor the Club’s intent to foster the art of sailing. Ned’s Merry Macs still race at our club, as do many small sailboats. Our membership has evolved along with today’s fleet, which includes both power and sail. All boats and all people are welcome at GBYC.

“To foster the sport of sailing.”

2018 will mark the 60th Anniversary of our incorporation. We are seeking support to sustain the club for decades to come. We are proceeding to replace the shed and if fundraising is successful, we will also be constructing a deck. Please see attached for additional information on the project.

To make this happen, and to allow all to feel ownership, we are reaching out to boating enthusiasts and GBYC members past and present.

Up to $10,000 of club reserves has already been allocated by the club membership, but much more is needed to complete the deck. We are asking for donations to help make this successful, and to help take GBYC forward.

Our goal is to raise at least another $7,500 through fundraising.

The attached Fundraising Form  can be used to provide any assistance you can. Please consider whatever amount you can by April 30th, 2018. This will take all of us.

Great Bay Yacht Club is run today consistent with the original intent of the founding membership. We are proud to still have that “perfect” club and to be the best kept secret on the bay.

Save the date!

Our fundraising regatta will be June 9th. Join us there.

Good news! Our team members are joining up to support world-changing research. Now, we need you!

We’ve decided to raise funds for Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center — a place where researchers, clinicians, and other experts unite innovative research and compassionate care to prevent and eliminate cancer and infectious disease.

Will you support us with a donation?

We care about this cause because cancer affects too many people, and because a healthier world is possible. Research is how we’ll get there, and you and I can help!

We trust and support Fred Hutch because for nearly 50 years, they’ve been advancing prevention, treatment, care, and cures. Their early discoveries led to bone marrow transplantation — one of the first immunotherapies and a treatment that can cure some cancers. Today, they are unlocking how cancers start and spread, harnessing the immune system to fight disease, improving clinical care, and giving more people and their families time together.

We’re ready for a world where nobody has to fear cancer or infectious diseases — and we know you are, too. Please donate today. Every contribution matters, and your support means so much. Thank you!

Did you know?

  • Fred Hutch unites more than 5,000 world-leading scientists, providers, and staff to prevent, diagnose, treat, and cure cancer and other diseases.
  • They have earned 3 Nobel Prizes for breakthrough research.
  • They treat more than 50,000 people for cancer each year.
  • They have more than 430 active clinical trials, giving patients access to leading-edge treatments.
  • Fred Hutch cares about people. They focus on understanding the toll cancer takes on individuals and communities; advancing health equity; improving prevention; and treating the entire person, not just the disease.

Raise Awareness, Raise Funds, and Raise Sails for RAINE!

The RAINE Charity Committee is excited to announce the start of the 2023 “Sailing for the Bayshore” fundraising campaign to benefit the RAINE (Reaching All In Need Everyday) Foundation. RAINE is a local 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides food, clothing, and assistance during the holidays, along with other various necessities for families in crisis throughout the Bayshore communities.  The “ Sailing for the Bayshore ” fundraising campaign leads up to the Annual Bill Volk Regatta , a two-day sailboat race and charity event held at the Keyport Yacht Club. The Regatta weekend is a major club event where all members come together to celebrate the sport of sailing and give back to our community. This year we will celebrate the 29th anniversary of the Bill Volk Memorial Regatta. The first regatta held in 1994 was dedicated to the memory of Bill Volk, an energetic club member who - among many things - helped revitalize the club's lapsed racing program.

KYC Members, Skippers, and Crew can start fundraising now through our FlipCause site and compete for the 1 st Place Fundraiser award, the RAINE CUP Trophy.

You don’t need to own a boat or race in the regatta to help fundraise!

CIYC Foundation Donations To Avalon Charities (November 2023)

yacht club fundraiser

Year End CIYC Foundation Report

First, I want to thank the members of CIYC for their support and generosity this year. Not only have you been generous with your wallets but with your time. Without the help of CIYC volunteers the Billfish Tournament and our fundraisers would not be possible. In 2023 the Foundation donated $69,000 to Avalon charities including Avalon High School scholarships, the Humane Society, Catalina Island Medical Center, Catalina Island Search and Rescue, Kids Ventures, Avalon 4 th of July Celebration, Avalon’s Drive-In Movie Program and Prime Time senior program.

It’s been a year of transition for the Foundation. Previously Randy Weaver co-chaired the Billfish Tournament with Anthony Salcido as a separate organization. In 2022 the Billfish was folded into the Foundation to provide support and management, allowing Randy and Anthony to step back. The 2023 event was the inaugural tournament for the Foundation and a rousing success thanks to the work of Bob and Sally Kurz and all the directors and volunteers that made it happen.

As we wrap up 2023 we’re preparing for 2024 and the 100 th anniversary of Catalina Island Yacht Club. To that end our 2024 fundraiser will be included as part of the festivities at the club’s anniversary celebration in August.

Once again, thank you CIYC membership for your support.

MILWAUKEE - Thirty-one " Make-A-Wish " families got to spend some time Sunday, Sept. 19 cruising around Milwaukee's lakefront in style on a huge yacht, and all that fun will help make more wishes come true.

The "Make-A-Wish" fundraiser was more than just a good time for the kids of the Hernandez family and others.

"It’s for families who have been involved with Make-A-Wish, and our family was involved with Make-A-Wish because of Talia and she had cancer in 2019," said Heidi Hernandez, mother.

The "Make-A-Wish" families got their own captain and yacht courtesy of the Milwaukee Yacht Club, hosting the event.

"It’s rewarding in the sense that we’ve raised this year $1.5 million and 243 wishes," said Robert Prah, Milwaukee Yacht Club. "It’s nice when you see their smiles, and you see them enjoying the water and they’re out on the bow or they’re just sitting there eating candy."

For those with "Make-A-Wish," it brings smiles to see these kids having fun, but the event also raises money to help them grant more wishes.

"It is a combination of a wish enhancement experience and fundraising to make more wishes come true," said Forrest Doolen, Make-A-Wish Wisconsin. "It really does take a whole big group of people to make those wishes come true."

"We’re just very grateful for organizations who think about families," said Heidi Hernandez.

Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation

Charting a course to a better community….

Message from the Chairperson: Updated June 2024 Dear Venice Yacht Club Members

It is hard to believe that we are more than halfway through our fiscal year! And what a year it has been already! Thanks to our many generous supporters, we have a budget of $150,000 in gifts to donate this year (including the VYC to VYBA pass through). From November 1st through to May 31, during the first grant cycle, we have already made grants of $91,550. Please see the Grant History for the list of the 2024 recipients to date. Our first event in 2024 was the VYCCF Wine Auction on January 10. This wide selection of special wine was donated by the generous family of Lynne Colyer. We raised more than $13,000 at that very fun event! Our major fundraising event this year was the Annual Bike Ride for a Better Community which this year also included a walking course. Unfortunately, for the first time in seven years, the weather did not cooperate. However, we did have about 50 intrepid riders and walkers, and over 200 individuals who enjoyed a delicious breakfast! And we raised close to $109,000, which surpassed our goal of $100,000! Thanks to everyone who participated, sponsors, riders’ walkers, and the many volunteers who helped make this a special and safe event! Jazz Under the Stars was, as usual, a wonderful success! The VHS jazz band played for the third year in a row and are all extraordinarily talented musicians! Venice Yacht Club members have been supporting many worthy organizations since our inception in 2010 we have donated over $1,200,000 to more than 75 different local organizations. The causes we support include Children and Youth services, including youth boating, Mental and Physical Health, Education and Literacy, Hunger, Homelessness, Veterans, and the Environment. Your commitment to helping families in need can continue in perpetuity through a gift to the VYCCF in your will. A lasting gift can provide financial security to many organizations. Sincerely, Sylvia Hollister – 2024 VYCCF Chair

Together we are Charting a course for a better community

Dear Fellow Club Members: Hope you all are having a pleasant summer, wherever that might be. While “things” are much slower in the summer, we, at the VYCCF are still involved in grant reviews and the necessary admin work that goes hand in hand with any foundation. As of August we will have given more than $130,000 in grants to the many diverse groups we support. In June, July & August we issued (and will issue) checks to Venice Area Mobile Meals (Pamela Phildius Ambassador), Loveland (Karla Olson Ambassador), and Big Brothers and Big Sisters (Bob Scholten Ambassador), among others. Mark your calendars now for October 10—when we will host a tribute to Jimmy Buffet to help raise monies for the worthwhile groups we support! So let any of your Parrothead friends know—tickets will go fast!! Appreciatively, Barbi Richardson , VYCCF Currents Editor

Please follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/VeniceYachctClubCharitableFoundation/ updated: Aug/Sept 2024 Currents

Dear Fellow Club Members: While summer is here and many of us are making plans to travel, visit family & friends, and enjoy life, “need” never takes a vacation. The many groups our Charitable Foundation supports—thanks to YOU—are hard at work, helping those less fortunate in our community to uplift their lives and circumstances. This past spring, we presented checks to All Faiths Food Bank and Family Promise. In fact, since our Foundation’s beginnings in 2010, we have donated $1,200,000 to more than 75 local organizations! Our VYC membership’s generosity is awe-inspiring. The causes we support include Children and Youth services, Youth boating, Mental and Physical Health, Education and Literacy, Hunger, Homelessness, Veterans, and the Environment. Your commitment to helping families in need can continue in perpetuity through a gift to the VYCCF in your will. A lasting gift can provide financial security to many organizations. If you have questions about how to structure something like this, we will be outlining some tips and guidelines in an upcoming issue of the Currents. And if you have specific questions about contributing directly to any of the groups we support, we can accommodate this through our 501c3. For more information, contact any VYCCF Director or Barbi Richardson. We added several new committee members to our VYCCF team over the past few months and would love for you to get to know them: Joi Nemke - December 2023. Ambassador to Laurel Civic Association, and Senior Friendship Center. Joi is a full-time FL resident, and brings 35 years of business experience. She has a background in fundraising, committee work, and as a volunteer with many organizations. Karla Olson - December 2023. Ambassador to The Loveland Center. Karla is very well known as a long time VYC member, as well as 2018 First Mate to her husband Commodore Gus Olson. She is a business owner, educator, event planner extraordinaire, and actively volunteers in organizations. Haydn Fusia - January 2024. Ambassador to JFCS, and the Sea Scouts. Haydn recently retired from a company he owned in Atlanta and is now a full-time FL resident. He also has an extensive background in leadership roles with many nonprofit organizations. Kimberly Spearman - July 2024. wIth more than 20 years’ experience in health care, Kimberly is now a full-time FL resident. She has a broad background in education, public service and social action and has served on several boards, and is a longtime volunteer. Appreciatively, Barbi Richardson , VYCCF Currents Editor

Venice Yacht Club Hosts Charity Ride

VYC Charitable Foundation's 4th Annual Fun Ride Will Raise Needed Funds

Article by Don Healy

Photography by Dave Slaman

Originally published in Venice City Lifestyle

In 2018, the Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation began a new tradition as part of its fundraising events, adding a community bike ride. In addition to encouraging participants of all ages to enjoy the beauty of Venice Island, all riders received financial sponsors enabling the Foundation to raise approximately $8,000. The VYCCF provides an average of $115,000 in grants a year to local Venice/South County charities focused on literacy, homelessness, fighting hunger and veteran services.

By 2020, the third ‘Ride For A Better Community’ grew to over 150 riders, raising $48,000 that would help provide emergency funding for charities inundated with community need, driven by Covid-19. As the 2020 crises unfolded, the Foundation committed to give out 100% of its total receipts and just has kicked off its 2021 year of caring. Dave Slaman, 2021 Foundation and Bike Ride chairperson, knows that the challenges of need will be great, but is confident we are on our way to a highly successful year.

Joe Terranova, 2021 Commodore of the Yacht Club explains: “It is with a great deal of excitement and anticipation that the Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation enters its second decade. The VYCCF continues to do the most good for the most people at risk, by providing financial and volunteer assistance to numerous charities throughout Sarasota County. The 4th Annual ‘Ride For A Better Community,’ to be held on February 21, 2021, is the Foundation’s signature fundraising event and has proven to be a fun, healthy and rewarding experience. I encourage all members of our community to join in the fun and either ride and / or sponsor a rider. I can assure you that 100% of the funds raised go to help those in need in our community.”

Registration has begun and community sponsors are already lining up to insure a successful event. Our riders include grandparents to grandkids ages 8 to 85, when the VYCCF hosts this fun and healthy event. A modest registration/donation fee of $50 per rider includes a commemorative shirt and post-ride breakfast at the Venice Yacht Club. But most critical will be the enthusiastic sponsorship that each rider gathers, which fund the grants awarded each year to the community. In fact, 2020 marked a milestone for the Foundation, as its 10-year gift total exceeded $750,000! Registration and sponsorship can be found on-line at Secure.ministrysync.com/ministrysync/event/?e=20247

So please help the VYC Foundation enter its second decade of providing hope and opportunity to those in-need.  You can also research the Foundation’s mission and grant history at: Vyccf.com
