Heesen Reveals “Santosha” Details
- By Yachting Staff
- August 21, 2024
Heesen Yachts in the Netherlands is revealing details about Santosha , a 187-footer that is the first hull in a new class of high-speed aluminum builds from the Dutch shipyard.
Previously known as Project Akira, this yacht’s design was first revealed at the 2019 Monaco Yacht Show. Heesen ’s team then began construction of the yacht on spec, with delivery expected this autumn.
The owners who purchased the build took the interior design in a direction different from what Heesen originally planned. The yard worked with interior designer Harrison Eidsgaard to include sustainable materials—including recycled wood, performance leather and “art silk” carpets—along with what Heesen calls “a carefully curated art display” on board.
Peter Wilson, who is acting as the owners’ representative, stated in a press release: “Our collaboration with Heesen on this project has yielded an excellent result. Collectively, we have been working as a cohesive team, with each party doing their utmost to achieve a world-class superyacht—one that is distinct from her peers. This was our second project with Heesen, and we look forward to many more in the future. Once delivered, I have no doubt that the clients will enjoy Santosha to her fullest.”
Some additional details about Santosha that Heesen just revealed include accommodations for 12 guests in six staterooms, a glass elevator, a 375-square-foot beach club, and a master bathroom inspired by the Garden of Eden, including a bas-relief snake. Heesen describes the master suite as an “owners’ apartment” that’s 750 square feet in size with a study.
Exterior design on this yacht is by Omega Architects. Heesen is projecting a 22-knot top speed. Range is expected to be 3,900 nautical miles at 13 knots. Gross tonnage is 780. The power package is twin MTU 16V 4000 M65L engines.
To allow for shallow-water cruising in regions including the Bahamas, draft on Santosha is about 7½ feet.
“ Santosha is a yacht designed for those who appreciate the finer things in life, combining elegance with practicality and meticulous attention to detail with a relaxed ambience,” Heesen’s chief commercial officer, Mark Cavendish, stated in a press release:. “It stands as a true testament to Heesen Yachts’ commitment to excellence and innovation in yacht building.”
What does Santosha mean? The yacht’s name is Sanskrit and serves as a reminder to “remain happy under any circumstances or be contented with what we can achieve,” according to the shipyard. A lotus will be the yacht’s logo.

80m Heesen flagship Genesis delivered under new ownership
Dutch yard Heesen has crowned a new flagship with the delivery of its 80-metre superyacht Genesis . Formerly known as Project Cosmos and Galactica, the all-aluminium yacht was technically completed last year, with sea trials taking place in April 2022.
In a statement Heesen announced that the yacht had been officially delivered to her new owners yesterday (31 August). The yard also confirmed that "the sale and delivery of the yacht had been coordinated with the Dutch authorities". In May last year the yard changed its ownership structure to an independent foundation that ensured it was 100% Dutch and could continue to build and deliver yachts.
Genesis now supersedes the shipyard's former flagship, the 70-metre Galactica Super Nova , by 10 metres and takes its place as the fastest aluminium yacht in her size class thanks to four MTU 4000 M73 engines totalling 19,000hp
She features exterior styling by British studio Winch Design while Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design was appointed to design the yacht's interiors. The project marks Heesen's third collaboration with Sinot.
Accommodation is for up to 12 guests split across six cabins, including a main deck owner's suite, bridge-deck VIP and four lower deck cabins. The crew quarters will sleep a staff of 19 people.
Other key features include a certified helideck on the bow beneath which sits the tender garage with room for a Winch-designed custom limousine.
Heesen currently has eight projects in build, according to BOATPro , and Genesis joins three other superyachts expected to be delivered this year, including 60-metre Ultra G.

“A full-custom, 187-foot motor yacht cannot be anything other than perfect, and there isn’t a shipyard in the world with a better knowledge of the techniques and disciplines needed to reach these heights,” Heesen CEO Niels Vaessen said in a statement. “Lightweight aluminum construction requires exacting skills.”
The interiors will be brought to life by Cristiano Gatto. The Italian designer and Heesen have a long history, working on more than 12 projects together. (Gatto will also act as the owner’s advisor this time around.) As Setteesettanta is a custom creation, many onboard elements will be bespoke. In fact, Gatto says he “meticulously avoided” off-the-shelf pieces.
With a generous interior volume of 920 GT, the yacht will offer plenty of space on board, too. Seafarers can easily navigate all four decks via the elegant oval staircase. (There is a separate staircase for the crew.)
The owners have reserved the entire upper deck to ensure their privacy, naturally. The owner’s stateroom offers 180-degree views and a private terrace of roughly 2,150 square feet that can double as a touch-and-go helipad. As for guest accommodation, one VIP cabin is positioned on the starboard side of the main deck, while two twins and two doubles are located on the lower deck.
Setteesettanta will be no slouch, either, with a top speed of 18 knots and a transatlantic range of 3,900 nautical miles at 12 knots.
The keel laying of Setteesettanta took place at the Heesen yard in Oss on December 14. The owners were there to celebrate the milestone and had a traditional good luck coin welded onto their yacht. If all goes accordingly, the vessel will be delivered in 2026. The Dutch yard currently has 14 yachts under construction that range from 164 to 262 feet.
