Termoli-Isole Tremiti sullo Zenit.

Primo step: acquistare i biglietti.

Domenica, sole splendente e clima perfetto.

ZEN 50 Electric Catamaran

Zero Emission Nautic is living up to its name with its premier model.

The fledgling European yard, which was established only last year, has just unveiled a zero-emission catamaran designed to sail the high seas with unlimited range.

Penned by acclaimed naval architect Julien Mélot, the new ZEN 50 spans just over 50 feet and features racing hulls forged from lightweight carbon fiber. Tipping the scales at roughly 16 tons, the multihull is also equipped with a huge solar roof that generates up to 16 kW. As a result, the 50-footer has a solar power/weight ratio of 1:1, which is better than any other yacht in the class, according to ZEN. The clean, green energy, which is stored in a high-capacity 160 kWh main battery, powers two 40 kW electric motors that enable silent, emissions-free cruising.

ZEN 50 Electric Catamaran

ZEN 50 has a top speed of 14 knots.  Zero Emission Nautic

Furthermore, ZEN claims the flagship is the world’s first series-production catamaran to be fitted with a wingsail. Designed by Ayro , the OceanWings32 is essentially a range and speed extender. Fully automated, it can be hoisted and lowered with the simple touch of a button to harness more power from the wind. The shipyard says the addition will allow seafarers to cruise longer distances at greater speeds.

While running solely on the electric motors, ZEN 50 has a maximum speed of 10 knots. With the wingsail erected, however, it can reach 14 knots at full tilt. The self-sufficient cat can also cruise continuously at between 6 and 10 knots when using both the motors and the Wingsail.

ZEN 50 Electric Catamaran

The solar roof converts into a giant upper deck.  Zero Emission Nautic

Onboard, meanwhile, the cat offer an array of luxe amenities. The layout comprises three separate dining areas, a professional galley, saloon and two wet kitchens. There’s also accommodation for up to 12 guests in ensuite cabins. Elsewhere, the solar roof actually converts into a giant upper deck with sweeping views, while the 366-square-foot flybridge rivals that of an 80-foot motoryacht. To top it off, ZEN 50 requires no traditional fossil fuels. That’s not only great for the environment; it’s also easier on pocket.

“We wanted the ZEN to be a true solar boat,” Mélot said in a statement. “That’s why the first unit in construction is not equipped with any generator and will not carry a single drop of fossil fuel onboard.”

Indeed, even the tender aboard the first hull is electric and will be recharged by the mothership.

Zero emissions, indeed.

ZEN Yachts sells its first ZEN50 electric catamaran featuring solar roof, automated wingsail, and plans for Starlink internet

Avatar for Scooter Doll

Infant electric boat manufacturer, ZEN Yachts, has announced its first US order for its flagship ZEN50 solar electric catamaran . The zero-emission sailing yacht is currently under construction in Europe and will arrive with some pretty luxurious features including two kitchens, a high-tech fully-automated wingsail, and Starlink internet from SpaceX.

ZEN Yachts is short for “Zero Emission Nautic Ltd. – an ocean-friendly boat manufacturer founded in 2021 and incorporated in Malta. To help propel the popularity of zero-emission yachts both on and off the water, the company has combined wind sailing with electric propulsion.

That begins with the ZEN50, the company’s recently announced 50+ foot solar electric catamaran currently being built near Barcelona, Spain. The 12-passenger electric yacht features 2 x 40kW brushless DC motors, powered by a 160 kWh lithium battery pack.

The main pack is supported by an entire rooftop of solar panels, offering a peak power of 16 kW, allowing the ZEN50 to cruise at 4.5-5 knots using the power of the sun alone. The electric propulsion system is backed by an Oceanswings OWS 3.2 wingsail by Ayro , making the ZEN yacht the first series production leisure craft to feature this fully-automated wingsail technology.

With its first catamaran hull on the way, ZEN Yachts has announced its first customer, and they should be sailing in the US soon.

ZEN yachts

First ZEN Yachts customer should be sailing in early 2023

According to the press release announcing ZEN Yacht’s first sale, the ZEN50 was designed from scratch with a slew of unique technology. For instance, the full-carbon catamaran is lightweight enough that, combined with its 1:1 solar power versus displacement ratio (16 kW / 16 tons), it is completely energy self-sufficient.

Award-winning naval architect Julien Mélot, who designed the ZEN50, elaborated on what the company means when it describes the vessel as a no compromise zero-emission catamaran :

The majority of solar catamarans currently on the market are equipped with a large generator, making them de facto hybrid diesel-solar-electric boats. They offer great speeds in a variety of conditions but are less eco-friendly than true zero-emission vessels. We wanted the ZEN to be a true solar boat, that’s why the first unit in construction is not equipped with any generator and will not carry a single drop of fossil fuel onboard (indeed even the tender is electric and recharged by the mother vessel).

In addition to providing endless energy for at sea voyages, ZEN Yachts explains that the ZEN50 can also be equipped with other zero-emission tech such as a dive compressor, e-foil, electric jet board, or even an electric water maker.

Inside one of the boat’s multiple hulls, the captain and their passengers will be able to relax in two large day beds, three dining areas, multiple ensuite cabins, and a saloon. To stay in touch during long, energy self-reliant trips at sea, the electric yacht maker is also hoping to eventually include satellite internet from SpaceX’s Starlink … emphasis on eventually. Here’s an official statement from ZEN Yachts:

Our first Client wants Starlink installed on his yacht. Based on announcements by SpaceX, this tech will become available for RV and marine applications. Therefore, we will install it on the ZEN50 of our first client (and likely others) when it becomes available. As the first ZEN50 is only due for sea trials in Spring ’23 and Transatlantic crossing later that year or the following, there’s hope on ZEN Yachts’ side that Starlink for marine applications will be available by then.

Traveling on electric propulsion alone might be tough at sea, even with the solar backup. That’s where the OceanWing wingsail comes in. Combined with the e-motor, the ZEN50 can reach a max speed of 14 knots (~16 mph). For continuous cruising, the wingsail and solar panels combine to deliver 6-10 knots of speed (7-11.5 mph). All three technologies combine in the ZEN50 yacht to deliver over 180 nautical miles of range over a 24-hour span.

As you may have noticed from the images above, our only glimpse of the ZEN50 so far is company renderings. Zen Yachts said it expects to complete and deliver the first solar electric sailing yacht early next year. As soon as the first hull leaves the mold, the company is building a second one.

Additionally, Zen Yachts is opening a showroom in Barcelona’s Marina Vela, set to open in April of 2022. Perhaps we can get out there for a visit, although it might be easier to wait for the ZEN50 to arrive to that customer in the US… whoever that might be.

Lastly, the company said it is still calculating the overall carbon footprint of producing the ZEN50 and will make that information public when it’s totaled. Regardless, Zen Yachts has already committed to reaching a net-zero carbon footprint by 2030.

Breathtaking laid back trip – september 2023.

We chartered Zenith sailboat for four days in San Blas. It is one of the most unspoilt areas I’ve ever been to, and it is amazing that it is so close to North America. The boat is absolutely stunning, and Fred the owner/captain is absolutely incredible!! We had amazing food and the crew on board saw The boat saw to our every need. Fred knew exactly where to sail to, and made sure that we had an incredible time. He knows many of the locals which really helps with the trip. This is a great trip to do with friends or couples. I’d recommend you fly to San Blas opposed to taking the jeep ride, and then water taxi.

Bucket list trip! November 2023

This has been a trip of a lifetime! Chris who was my online planner was always available with so much valuable information! He never made me feel like a bother for all my questions! The catamaran top notch…Beyond Friendly! Started when we met the owner of the boat Fred at the airport! Such a down to earth, sweet man! He truly cares about making sure your trip is the best ever! The small plane ride was great! At landing we are greeted by our amazing Captain Alexia. She is such an impressive young beautiful lady! Jhi (or as we names her Emily lol) was the deck hand and she was so friendly and accommodating ..also an impressive lady! and the Chef Luis was also super friendly BUT his food…OMGGG 5 star meals everyday Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and dessert! So amazing! The best food we have ever had! We stopped at beautiful islands, The Gunas were so nice! Luis bought fresh fish, lobster almost daily! Advice: We brought toys for the Guna kids …pumped up balls, ring pops and coloring books and crayons The kids LOVED it! The catamaran was so beautiful and super comfy. The beds were great! Sleeping with AC was amazing! Would NOT recommend getting a boat without AC! It is so damn hot! We had stand up boards and kayaks! Snorkeling equipment! Alexia brought us snorkeling many times. I can’t say enough! This was a bucket list trip for sure! As soon as I figure it out, we will post many videos

Amazing experience – Awesome trip! December 2023

All I can say is WOW! This goes down as one of my top trips in my 60 years. Boat was super clean, onboard crew were just amazing and fun to be with. Food – OMG I was expecting run of the mill food but we got what I’d consider to be Michelin star food! Lobster and fish caught that day from locals. San Blas is great but remember it is a quiet place, the night life is what you make. Water and beaches are just stunning. Love sitting on the boat at night sipping a beer or four. Fred, the owner was wonderful. Everything we asked for prior to sailing was there for us, even my request for IPA beer!

Trip of a lifetime 10 stars, as 5 is just not enough!!! November 2023

My sister and I planned and researched the best way to see the San Blas islands for my husband’s 60th birthday and our vacation. She found the tour group that helped us select the best fit Catamaran for our trip. Out of all the options she and I instantly knew that the Zenith was our Catamaran. First, during our 1000 questions of Chris (okay maybe not quite a 1000 but I’m sure it was close)! Yet, he patiently answered and even helped us with the selection of our extended Panama City hotel and area to stay questions even though it had nothing to do with the trip he runs. Absolutely professional and extremely helpful!

Also, we were a bit nervous about the wire transfer payment only because it was something we never did before. Wire transfer the deposit and final payment ahead of the trip. We researched that this was a real company and of course it is. I completely confirm it’s safe to do!!! As I ramble on more about just how wonderful this vacation was!

Now on to the Zenith Catamaran, truly the best option for any/all travelers! If I could give 10 stars it would fit this trip better then 5!!! When I tell you this was a trip of a lifetime I am not exaggerating! I’m 57 years old, worked in travel for years, been to Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico and vacationed all throughout the USA; THIS BY FAR EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTATIONS!! Let’s start with the plane trip (I’m a scardy cat and was terrified) But the flight was actually awesome, safe and would do it again! You also need to know that in order to do the flight it took me taking an anxiety pill and washing it down with booze, I was that scared. But after flying twice safely I would NOT hesitate to fly again. Again, Chris’s recommended way to get to the Zenith and he was 100% right!

We met the Zenith’s owner Fred at the airport, what a great, friendly guy!! When planning the food (which was plentiful and the drinks (also plentiful with a large variety) he customized everything we requested as best he could! He obviously strives to assure its a great experience overall, which it was!! The Zenjth was beautiful, the staterooms and beds so comfortable, air conditioning at night which we loved, many wonderful equipment to use (snorkeling, paddleboards, boogie boards, kayaks, dingy and my favorite to float with the noodle, lol! Amazing!

The captain Alexia met us at the plane drop off (This amazing young lady was experienced, confident, friendly, amazingly strong (wow!) and shared my love of all animals (the Guna people’s pets) we completely loved her! The whole crew Jhai (we renamed her “our Emily” (my fault as I misheard her name, lol! I blame it on the anxiety pill I took to face the plane ride)! Anyway another amazing young lady, she assisted with everything, very, very helpful and friendly! We also loved her! And the chef Luis, AMAZING CHEF!!! What you’d expect from a 5 star restaurant in NY City, just wow! Presentation, taste along with spectacular views, I just can’t say enough! Again no exaggeration! He would buy fresh caught seafood from the Guna people and turn it into amazing dishes, he even made us sushi! All our crew were so friendly we were just so sad to leave and wanted to bring them all home with us. We stayed 5 nights and recieved 3 beautiful meals per day, snacks, and amazing desserts (some made from our lovely captai) even a wonderful send off breakfast on departure day very early in the morning. Obviously we loved Luis as well!

The Guna people were friendly and welcomed us on the islands let us walk about their homes. Such wonderful people! My sister and brother in law thought to bring the Guna children blow up bouncy balls, ring pops, and coloring books and crayons. Their little faces lit up it was so much fun!

Now I know how I left a book review, sorry for my long winded ways. But this trip was so wonderful that I feel like I can’t truly capture how special it was. The water, Islands, sun sets and sunrise, amazing!!! I will try to post pictures from the trip but even those which are beautiful don’t truly capture the complete beauty! Paradise!!!

De verdad First Class!

Muchas gracias y volveremos pronto!

Bien cordialement,

John Fraser – June 2015

Hi Jaime, We had a most amazing weekend on “Destination Unknown” with Captain Gilbert and his assistant Amaryllis. They were incredible hosts and went out of their way to make our trip a lifetime memory. Thank you for all your last minute arrangements – we will be recommending your company to all our friends!

Ukrainian drones reportedly attack Russia's Kirov Oblast for first time

Ukrainian drones attacked the town of Kotelnich in Russia's Kirov Oblast, Governor Alexander Sokolov claimed on Aug. 28.

According to Sokolov, Russian air defenses shot down two drones while three others "fell" and started a fire near the Zenit oil facility. The drones were targeting a tank with oil products , the governor claimed.

No casualties or damages were reported. Sokolov said that the situation is "under control."

Kotelnich is located some 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) from Ukraine 's border. This is the first report of a drone attack on Russia's Kirov Oblast since the beginning of Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

According to Russia's Defense Ministry, air defense also shot down eight drones over Voronezh Oblast and four over Rostov Oblast overnight.

The Ukrainian military has not officially commented on these reports, which cannot be verified independently.

Ukraine's military intelligence ( HUR ) source confirmed to the Kyiv Independent that Ukrainian drones operated by HUR and the Special Operation Forces hit an oil depot in Rostov Oblast on Aug. 28, setting it on fire.

The BBC's Russian service reported on Aug. 28 that drones have attacked oil refineries and infrastructure sites in Russia and on Russian-occupied territories, including Crimea , at least 64 times this year.
