Luxury motor yacht SHEMARA is a beautiful and elegant classic mega yacht built in 1938 by Vosper Thorneycroft in Southampton, UK. Measuring 65 metres superyacht SHEMARA has a very interesting history  and was used as a submarine training vessel during World War II, following which she was purchased by her previous owner Sir Bernard Docker and utilised as a luxury yacht in the 1960s. In 2007, she was rediscovered by her current owner and in 2014 concluded her extensive three-year refit, turning her, once again, into an elegant and luxurious vessel .

The 2013/2014 refit of SHEMARA included a refurbishment of the crew cabins, bathrooms, mess areas and the main saloon by Trimline Yacht Interiors. The interior spaces have been revitalised sympathetically balancing new, contemporary twist to the interior with many original features paying tribute to the yacht’s rich heritage . The main saloon features a hand-made stone fireplace and timber panelling, providing a grand entertaining space.

SHEMARA’s hull was also rebuilt, using as much original steel plate as possible, but with a new underwater profile to aid stability, add a keel and a bulbous bow, as well as to allow for the azimuthing drives aft. Her superstructure was redesigned and rebuilt in aluminium , including the old wheelhouse, originally constructed in brass. The masts were substituted with carbon replicas, and the main funnel was remade in GRP.

The upper deck superstructure was slightly lengthened to accommodate for a spacious upper deck saloon and day bar, however she has maintained the original portholes, and her hull, from the sheer line to the waterlines, boasts the original plating.

The general arrangements of the interior are by Design Unlimited, featuring interior design by the London-based Studioilse. There is an esoteric mix of furniture and the wonderful giant formal saloon and dining room on the main deck offer fantastic place for SHEMARA’s owner and guests to unwind.

Accommodation aboard SHEMARA yacht includes six double guest cabins and a large VIP on the lower deck, as well as the owner’s suite forward on the upper deck. All decks are elegantly linked by a grand central staircase.

There is a great selection of deck spaces, including the observation deck on the top of the wheelhouse as well as the large sunbathing area aft on the bridge deck. The expansive aft deck boasts a fantastic plunge pool on the upper deck and an al fresco dining area on the main deck aft. On the upper deck, the side decks were maintained wide and are similar to the promenade decks of classic liners.

Comfort aboard SHEMARA superyacht is guaranteed by fully retractable active-fin stabilisers, station keeping is by a fully integrated Dynamic Positioning System, an important system upgrade to the regular super yacht outfit, however one that perfectly ties together the enhanced functionality of the propulsion system.

This historic vessel sails again and is an ideal charter yacht for those with discerning taste.

A General Description of Motor Yacht PALLADA

PALLADA was formerly named project/yacht name Dg-105-1. This 32 metre (105 foot) luxury yacht was developed at Timmerman Yachts in 2003. Motor Yacht PALLADA is a well proportioned superyacht. The firm of naval architecture whom authored this yacht's plans and general arangement for the yacht was Moscow Shipyard and Ginton Naval Architects and Guido De Groot Design. The vessel had interior design work is the brain child of Guido De Groot Design. Luxury yacht PALLADA is a interesting yacht that can sleep as many as 8 people on board and has around 4 qualified crew.

Moscow Shipyard was the naval architecture company involved in the technical superyacht design work for PALLADA. Also the company Moscow Shipyard and Ginton Naval Architects and Guido De Groot Design successfully worked on this venture. Interior designer Guido De Groot Design was charged with the creative interior ambience. Russia is the country that Timmerman Yachts built their new build motor yacht in. After the official launch in 2003 in Moscow she was thereafter delivered on to the yacht owner after sea trials and testing. The core hull was built out of steel. The motor yacht superstructure component is made mostly with aluminium. With a beam of 6.8 m / 22.31 ft PALLADA has reasonable room. She has a reasonably shallow draught of 1.45m (4.76ft).

The 3196 engine installed in the motor yacht is built by CATERPILLAR. For propulsion PALLADA has twin screw propellers. The engine of the yacht gives 385 horse power (or 283 kilowatts). She is fitted with 2 engines. The total power for the yacht is accordingly 770 HP or 566 KW.

Superyacht Shemara launch update

After nearly four years of intensive work, the 65m classic motor yacht Shemara finally returned to the water on 16 April in a carefully choreographed operation overseen by Burgess Marine and Shemara Refit LLP. Boat International magazine's Editor Tim Thomas was live on the scene and reports on witnessing the superyacht Shemara 's successful launch .

She was transited to the 1,000-tonne Rolls-Royce syncrolift ship lift at Burgess Marine’s superyacht refit and repair facility at Trafalgar Wharf, Portchester, on Sunday 13 April as final preparations were made, and dipped in the water for 24 hours to test the integrity of her skin fittings.

Under clear skies and with a brisk breeze blowing in from the east, the lowering of the yacht began with an aim to float her out on the tide just after midday. With Williams Shipping on hand to facilitate the tow from Trafalgar Wharf to the Port of Southampton – where the refit works will be completed and the yacht will undergo commissioning and sea trials – the lift was gently lowered and the elegant lady floated once more, sitting high on her lines with empty tanks. The delicate operation went without a hitch, and as Shemara gracefully slid backwards with some gentle urging from the tugs, the passage to Southampton began.

Burgess Marine – one of more than 200 local subcontractors who have supported Shemara Refit LLP – provided specialist support and personnel to the project, including structural and fabrication works, mechanical works and pipe-fitting. ‘Burgess Marine has been an important partner in this project from the moment we took ownership of the vessel in Lowestoft, UK, in 2010,’ said Peter Morton, owner of Shemara Refit LLP.

The project has marked several major milestones for the Trafalgar Wharf development. Burgess Marine ’s facility has also seen major investment since the company acquired Testbank Ship Repair in January 2013, including dredging the channel and the ship lift pit to allow vessels up to a 4.5m draught to use the lift. In line with further major investment in Trafalgar Wharf, wires, bearings and winches have been overhauled and the site’s infrastructure significantly improved.

Shemara was originally built in 1938 by JL Thornycroft & Company for the industrialist Bernard Docker. She was requisitioned by the Navy during WWII, and afterwards enjoyed many years in the spotlight as Lord and Lady Docker used her to the full. After being sold to reclusive property magnate Harry Hyams in 1965, she was moved to Lowestoft and gradually fell into decay.

Seeing her emerge from the shed where she has been carefully and exquisitely rebuilt, it is clear that this has been a project of considerable scope. As the sun glinted off her fresh white hull and she made her way – albeit backwards to begin with – down the channel through Portsmouth Harbour, it was clear that this was a renaissance worthy of attention.
