25 Boats are now Registered for the 2024 CCR September 19-22 MBYC Holland, MI Registration is still open This year the Class Championship moves back to the home of the S2 7.9 in Holland, MI.  Join us on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan and Macatawa Bay for the 2024 Class Championship.  Macatawa Bay Yacht Club has a ramp on site and trailer parking nearby.  There are numerous AirBnb/VRBO/Hotels nearby.  Sign up now for this great regatta.

If you are entering new sails into the regatta, you must submit Sail Certificates for the new sails before you arrive in Holland. Send the certificates to [email protected] . Forms can be found here.

Registration is now open for the

Nashville Equalizer Regatta

October 19-20 It's that time of year again.  Time to finish off the S2 7.9 Regatta season with some Honky Tonkin', Gumbo and Racing.  Join us in Nashville for this must attend regatta with racing Saturday and Sunday with some practice starts and practice race scheduled for Friday afternoon.  Numerous hotels are available in the area, with docking/ramp/trailer storage all at Hamilton creek marina.  Back by popular demand and of course our gracious  host, Paul's famous Gumbo party on Saturday.  Sign up now to join the fun.

Congratulations to Ginger  on Winning the 2024 Lake Erie Championship It was a competitive weekend on Lake Erie for the 2024 S2 7.9 Lake Erie Championship! Several close finishes, tight mark roundings, and early weed growth made for exciting and frustrating all at the same time! Thank you to Ford Yacht Club for hosting our fleet again this weekend!

Congratulations to Rebel on winning the 2024 St. Pete Sailing World Regatta Series Rebel concluded the regatta in first place with Ginger in 2nd and  K2 in 3rd.  The Florida weather wasn't as  corporative as we had hoped.  Light winds on Friday only allowed one race,  two races on Saturday were sailed before a storm system moved in and no races were sailed on Sunday with the storm system hanging around.  Thank you to St. Pete Yacht Club for hosting the regatta and a big thank you to all the crews who traveled to St. Pete. MBJA Sailing School

Established in 1982, join one of the fastet growing co-ed sports in the nation, register now for high school and middle school sailing teams, 2024 high school sailing team - fall.

Join the fun and sign up for one of the fastest growing co-ed sports in the nation!

MBJA happily invites all students in grades 8-12 to participate, regardless of which area high school you attend. Prior sailing or racing experience is required – either as a member of the current team or successfully completing one of the MBJA 420 camps. Sailing under the banner of your high school with a group of your peers forges friendships that last a lifetime.

Currently, MBJA has students from Black River, Holland Christian, Saugatuck, West Ottawa, and Zeeland East and West, who participate in our high school sailing program. 

Practices will be begin WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 4 from 3:30-6:30pm and will be held on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from September 4-November 3. 

A Parent/Sailor meeting is scheduled for 6:30pm on Wednesday September 4 in the Junior Sailing Center with Coach Cappy, Coach Hannah and Director Marie. If you have questions about practices, experience or eligibility, please contact MBJA Director, Marie Mell Colville at [email protected].

Fall 2024 6th/7th grade Middle School Team (Tier 4)

MBJA happily invites all students in grades 6 & 7 to participate, regardless of which area high school you attend. Prior sailing or racing experience is required – either as a member of the current team or successfully completing one of the MBJA 420 or Opti camps. Sailing under the banner of your high school with a group of your peers forges friendships that last a lifetime. Currently, MBJA has students from Black River, Holland Christian, Saugatuck, West Ottawa, and Zeeland East and West, who participate in our high school sailing program. 

6th/7th Grade (Tier 4) sailing will differ from traditional High School sailing. Students will use RAD sails (cut-down mains), only compete in regattas against others in Tier 4. They will also NOT sail if the wind is greater than 15mph. Practice pairings will be set up by Coach Hannah and maximize crew/skipper combinations by height/weight and experience, so pairings may differ day-to-day in practice. For regattas, each pair will sail 4-6 races (wind/weather dependent) together with no rotations. 

Practices will be begin WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 4 from 3:30-6:30pm and will be held on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from September 4-October 5.

The Bay City Yacht Club is the center of inner Saginaw Bay sailboat racing. We are home to Lightning Fleet 216, have an active Wednesday Night fun-racing program as well as a more competitive weekend series. We frequently host regional regattas and welcome inquiries to utilize BCYC facilities to host sailboat racing events.

We have a number of different racing opportunities as listed below

The BCYC Main and Jib series runs from May to early October each year. The season is split into 3 series: Spring, Summer and Fall. Races are held Wednesday evenings. Races are run in accordance with US Sailing Racing Rules Of Sailing and utilize PHRF handicapping. Participants are slotted into fleets based on PHRF rating and boat type. Race results are announced at the BCYC clubhouse and online after each race. Season awards are presented at a festive, fun BCYC Sailing Banquet held in late October, early November of each year. Registration and entry fees are required.

The Saginaw Bay Lightning Fleet #216 has been located at the Bay City Yacht Club from the very start of the club in the 1950's. At BCYC, the fleet consists of over 12 boats who are active in the fleet racing program which occurs on every Wednesday night from May to September. The Bay City Lightning One Design Series involves a closed race course within a mile of shore and typically consists of 2-3 races each night. The results of each race is recorded and scores are tallied at the end of the season and awards presented.

The Lightning, a 19-foot trailerable centerboard sloop is an affordable family "day sailor" and racing boat. She has evolved into one of the most popular and competitive one-design racing classes in the world for crews of Men, Women, and Juniors alike. The Lightning is easy to launch and sail with a crew of 2-4 people and raced typically with a crew of three, it is also light enough to trailer with ease.

The BCYC Weekend Series runs from June through September of each year. Spinnaker, Cruising and Multhull classes are being offered. The weekend series is the more competitive series hosted by BCYC and consists of a mix of courses: short distance races within the BCYC Racing Buoy Course, long distance races 20+ nm in length that sail to the outer bay, and one night race to Tawas. PHRF handicapping is used. Race results are posted after the race online. Season awards are presented at the year-end BCYC Sailing Banquet. Registration and entry fees are required.

Great Lakes Multihull Championship Regatta

During August of each year, the BCYC looks forward to hosing the Great Lakes Multi Hull Championship Regatta. This regatta draws some of the best multihull sailors in the Midwest and frequently draws national competitors as well.

BCYC Lightning Regatta

BCYC is home to International Lightning Class Association Fleet 216. Fleet 216 hosts an annual invitational regatta as part of the Michigan Lightning District traveling schedule.
