History of the Adygea Republic

The territory of Adygea has been inhabited since ancient times. Abadzehskaya Paleolithic site is located in Maykop district. Also there are a lot of archaeological sites of Bronze and Iron Ages. Maykop archaeological culture is well known.

A lot of unique items were found during the excavation of the hills near the village of Ulyap in Krasnogvardeysky district. Most of the precious items excavated while Adygea was part of Krasnodar krai and known as “Scythian gold” or “Kuban gold” can be found in museums outside of Adygea.

The indigenous Adyg population’s ancestors are considered to be ancient Meots, Sinds, Aheys, Zikhs, Kasogs, and Kerkets residing in the region. As a result of the Caucasian wars (1763-1864), the majority of the Adygs (Circassians) were exiled to the Ottoman Empire. The rest of the Adygs were settled in the lowlands, on the left bank of the Kuban River.

More Historical Facts…

Adygea was formed on July 27, 1922 as Cherkesskaya (Adygeyskaya) Autonomous Oblast (province) with the center in Krasnodar. From August 24, 1922 till August 13, 1928, it was Adygeyskaya (Cherkesskaya) Autonomous Oblast, and then Adygeyskaya Autonomous Oblast.

From August 2, 1924 till December 28, 1934, it was part of the North Caucasian krai, then, till September 13, 1937, part of Azov-Chernomorsky krai and finally - part of Krasnodar krai.

April 10, 1936, Maykop became the capital of the region. April 28, 1962, Tulsky (now Maikopsky) district of Krasnodar krai was joined to the region. October 5, 1990, Adygeyskaya Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was declared. Since 1992, it is the Republic of Adygea.

In December 1991 - January 1992, deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Adygea were elected. It was the first Parliament in the history of Adygea. In 1993, it was reformed into Legislative Assembly (Khase) and, in 1995, - into State Council - Khase. The Constitution of the Republic of Adygea was adopted by Legislative Assembly - Khase on March 10, 1995.

The Adygea Republic - Features

Adygea is located in the northern foothills of the Caucasus Mountains. The northern part of the region consists mainly of plains while the southern part has mountains. The main river of the region is the Kuban River. The highest mountains are Chugush (3,238 meters) and Fisht (2,868 meters).

The climate is moderately warm, the average temperature in January is minus 2 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 28 degrees Celsius.

The republic is rich in forest resources, which occupy more than one third of the republic’s territory (the southern part), and building materials (gravel, sand, clay, limestone). The republic has small reserves of natural gas. In the mountainous part of the republic there are small deposits of gold, ore materials.

Adygea is an industrial-agrarian republic with such industries as food processing, woodworking, pulp and paper, mechanical engineering and metalworking. The basis of the agro-industrial production is crop production, pig, sheep, poultry, and horse breeding. Several railways pass through the territory of the republic.

Attractions of the Adygea Republic

Adygea is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. This region is rich in waterfalls, caves, rock formations suitable for climbing, gorges, canyons, rivers, alpine meadows, pine and fir forests.

The territory of the republic is a region of mixed tourism. It is rich in interesting natural areas and objects: the Caucasian State Biosphere Reserve located in the Republic of Adygea and Krasnodar krai, the National Park “Gornaya (Mountainous) Adygea”, a number of unique natural sites.

Khadzhokhsky Gorge, a canyon of the Belaya River, begins in the vicinity of Maikop. Near the canyon there are waterfalls of the Rufabgo stream.

In the mountain village of Guzeripl, on the territory of the Caucasus Nature Reserve, you can find one of the most famous dolmens, they can also be found on Bogatyrskaya glade. Artechouse to reopen with an incredible 30-minute laser show

The show is like something out of a sci-fi thriller.

Shaye Weaver

After five months, ARTECHOUSE, the digital art space under Chelsea Market, is returning with a light spectacle for the eyes on September 3.

Japanese multimedia artist Shohei Fujimoto's Intangible Forms is a kinetic audio-visual laser performance that uses math to give light shape. Across 30 minutes, the show uses  kinetic laser modules set to a "hazy" soundscape  inspired by the quiet Shinto Shrine in the mountains in Japan, "where every sound and feeling around you can be amplified, triggering a deeper sense of humanity in ourselves," according to the organizers at the space.

There are also four other works throughout the space that work on their own and that "imitate life phenomena around us."

Intangible Forms sounds like it'll be a feast for the eyes and a respite for the weary, quarantine-plagued soul.

Here's a teaser for the show:

100 yacht street laser park

“ At ARTECHOUSE we continue in our mission to connect audiences to art in an entirely new way, stimulating minds, emotions, and imagination through multiple touchpoints,"  said Sandro Keserelidze, the founder and chief creative officer of ARTECHOUSE."Each exhibition and installation on view is intended to enthrall, educate and challenge simultaneously and Intangible Forms is a really visceral example of that.  Shohei Fujimoto, whose work has bold philosophical questions at its center, materializing through his intricate executions, has intrigued us for several years and now ARTECHOUSE is thrilled to bring him to New York this season and we invite everyone to come with an open mind, because Fujimoto’s works are not meant to explained, but experienced ."

Intangible Forms was supposed to run in the spring but was cut short after only 10 days when the pandemic hit NYC.

Now that low-impact, indoor entertainment is allowed to reopen, ARTECHOUSE is taking its own precautions so that visitors can return and enjoy the show.

Tickets ($24 for adults and $17 for children) must be purchased online at  artechouse.com/nyc and tickets purchased in advance will be $5 off. Of course, capacity will be reduced to 25 percent with limited entry and changed hours and everyone will be required to wear a mask and have their temperatures taken before entry. The space will also clean and sanitize frequently and provide hand sanitizer for everyone.

"We started ARTECHOUSE with the intention to educate, empower and inspire artists and our community alike,"  Keserelidze said. " That mission matters now more than ever, as we find ourselves emerging from this time of fear and isolation.  Art, we feel, is truly essential right now. It can provide a respite from the chaos that surrounds us, inspire us, transport us. Intangible Forms was intended as an immersive experience into the known and unknown, and we hope the audiences find it timely, as we all re-emerge into a world we know, yet surrounded by so many unknowns around us .”

The show will be on through October 14.

Bathed in natural light courtesy of expansive panoramic glazing, owners can access a first-in-class bow terrace for ultimate privacy through a cleverly sculptured, fully-glazed sliding door forward.

The yacht can be specified as a four or five cabin boat, ideal for the charter market. In either case, the twin amidship cabins can be fitted with Pullman berths for added flexibility. The crew cabin is also worthy of mention, featuring a Captain’s cabin with en suite, two twins each with en suite, a highly specified crew mess.

Top Bar Harbor Maine Sights For Visiting Cruisers

  • By Kristin Baird Rattini
  • September 12, 2024

Bar Harbor

Scenic seaside Bar Harbor is the gateway to Maine’s Acadia National Park, one of the 10 most popular national parks throughout the United States. The Pine Tree State’s abundance of breathtaking scenery and stellar dining options satisfies all the senses—on and off the water.

Top Acadia Sights

It’s worth the early start and extra layers to watch the sunrise at the summit of Cadillac Mountain, elevation 1,530 feet, the highest point on the Eastern Seaboard. The effort will be rewarded with stunning views of the glaciated coastal and island landscape, overlooking Frenchman Bay out toward the Schoodic Peninsula and beyond. Allow a good half-hour for the drive up the mountain. From May through October, both a national park pass and a car reservation are required; the latter can be booked on recreation.gov.

The 27-mile Park Loop Road accesses the park’s top attractions, including Otter Cliff. The 110-foot-high granite precipice is a popular scenic overlook for photos. Nearby, Sand Beach is noted for its (chilly) aquamarine waters and stunning views, as well as for ranger-led stargazing programs. In between these two attractions on the 2.2-mile Ocean Path Trail is Thunder Hole, where the churning waters one to two hours before high tide create a deafening roar and wave sprays as high as 40 feet.

Read More: Cruising to Historic Portland, Maine

Sieur de Monts is referred to as the “heart of Acadia.” Its nature center has exhibits on the science behind the park’s scenery. Its Wild Gardens of Acadia include more than 400 plant species native to the park. Its short hiking trails range from steep Schiff Path, which connects to the summit of Dorr Mountain, to the leisurely Jesup Path boardwalk favored by birdwatchers on the lookout for the park’s 20-plus warbler species.

Bar Harbor’s dining scene satisfies at any time of day. After the sunrise atop Cadillac Mountain, refuel with breakfast at Café This Way, known for its blueberry pancakes and corned beef hash. Partake in a park tradition by booking afternoon tea at Acadia’s Jordan Pond House. Enjoy the delicious popovers, first served in 1893, while looking out over the luxuriant lawn along Jordan Pond. Mount Desert Island Ice Cream is considered a requisite stop in Bar Harbor. Order a flight to sample several of the creative, ever-changing flavors, which range from Maine Sweet Cream to Bay of Figs to Salt Wildflower Honey.

A lobster meal is mandatory in Maine. The Travelin’ Lobster, a casual outdoor venue, is worth the wait for its lobster bisque, lobster bake and flavorful, generously sized lobster rolls. (Save room for blueberry pie.) The Reading Room Restaurant serves up a refined seafood repast along with spectacular harbor views and live piano music. And don’t miss Havana for its award-winning wine list, craft cocktails and inventive Latin-inspired fare.
